Blood leukocyte and lymphocyte counts, absolute and relative numbers of T-lymphocytes and T-cell subsets were studied in 45 patients with multiple myeloma and 18 healthy controls. No differences were found between untreated patients and controls. In the group of untreated patients similar results were obtained in patients with low-intermediate tumour cell mass as in patients with large tumour cell mass. In patients with large tumour cell mass studied during cytostatic therapy, leukocyte and lymphocyte counts, T-cells, OKT4+ cells and OKT4/OKT8 ratios were significantly lower than in untreated patients. Patients studied at varying intervals (2-28 mo.) after cessation of therapy still exhibited abnormal leukocyte and lymphocyte counts, numbers of T-cells, OKT4+ cells and OKT4/OKT8 ratios.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Rats inoculated with 10,000 sporulated oocysts of Eimeria nieschulzi had significantly higher total leukocyte counts on postinoculation days (PI) 1, 5, 6 and 7 when compared to control rats. Relative and absolute neutrophil counts increased concomitantly with a decrease in the relative lymphocyte levels in E. nieschulzi-infected rats on PI day 7. Absolute and relative neutrophil counts in infected rats on PI days 7 and 8 were closely correlated with the host's total oocyst discharge. The E. nieschulzi infection had no significant effect on the relative or absolute levels of monocytes or eosinophils. The described changes in leukocyte levels were not paralleled by a significant change in the erythrocyte count.  相似文献

The absolute granulocyte count of peritoneal fluid was determined for 98 consecutive patients with ascites in order to assess its value as an early indication of bacterial infection. The absolute granulocyte count was found to be more sensitive and specific than either the total leukocyte count or differential count alone. When the absolute granulocyte count in ascites fluid is greater than 250 per cu mm, then it is likely that infection is present.  相似文献

The absolute number of T- and B-lymphocytes in the peripheral blood was measured in 22 patients with disseminated nonlymphoid solid malignant tumours. Patients with normal absolute lymphocyte counts had normal absolute numbers of T- and B-lymphocytes; patients with low counts had low numbers. The percentage of T- and B-lymphocytes was similar, in both groups of patients, to that of healthy control subjects. Patients with a normal absolute lymphocyte count had better in vitro lymphocyte responses to mitogenic agents than did patients with low absolute lymphocyte counts. Improvement of depressed in vitro lymphocyte responses to normal on culture of cells in AB plasma was most likely in patients with normal absolute lymphocyte counts. The absolute lymphocyte count by itself, then, provides useful information about the immune status of patients with solid malignant tumours.  相似文献

The leukocyte blood composition was studied for seven years in dogs kept outdoors. The lymphocyte count proved to be higher from May to September than from November to March. Variations in the neutrophil and monocyte count were subject to reverse regularity. Changes in the total leukocyte count failed to coincide with the seasonal periodicity.  相似文献

Hematologic and serum biochemical values were determined for healthy, mature Yucatan miniature swine, Sus scrofa. These values were similar to those reported for other breeds of swine. There was no effect on erythrocyte count, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, platelet count, or leukocyte count attributable to sex (p greater than 0.05). Differential leukocyte counts generated on an automated multichannel blood cell counter, having a three part leukocyte differential capability, were compared to 100-cell manual leukocyte differentials. Determination of lymphocyte and non-lymphocyte fractions on this system were not significantly different from microscopic differentials (p less than 0.001). However, the mononuclear cell count did not correlate well with the percentage of monocytes determined manually (r = 0.084, p greater than 0.5). Leukocytes, erythrocytes, and platelets behaved properly with respect to counting thresholds as modified for counting cells of other common domestic species on this automated cell counter.  相似文献

目的:探讨急性肺炎支原体感染后儿童白细胞及CRP变化的规律,为该病的临床治疗与诊断提供参考。方法:对65例急性肺炎支原体感染儿童和同期65例健康儿童的血常规白细胞和CRP检测结果采用t检验进行统计比较,分析二者的差异。结果:与同期健康儿童相比,急性肺炎支原体感染儿童白细胞计数增高,中性粒细胞比例及绝对值增高,淋巴细胞比例及绝对值下降,嗜酸性粒细胞、嗜碱性粒细胞及单核细胞比例及绝对值均无明显变化,CRP水平明显升高。结论:急性肺炎支原体感染儿童通过白细胞、CRP的变化可以初步判断。  相似文献

In the present study, we have analyzed the effect of chronic amphetamine sulfate (AMPH) treatment on haematological, immunological and neurochemical parameters in the male rat. AMPH increased the total peripheral leukocyte count, and altered its differential counts, decreasing lymphocytes and increasing neutrophils. Flow cytometry study showed that the decline in circulating lymphocytes was caused by the loss of a particular lymphocyte subset, B-cell, which reduced both in percentage and in absolute number by 50%. T-cell population increased by 15% but not in absolute number, however there was no difference in either CD4+ or CD8+ T lymphocyte subsets between experimental groups. Neurochemically, AMPH reduced norepinephrine (NE) and serotonin (5-HT) contents in the hypothalamus and increased dopamine (DA) content in the striatum. Chronic AMPH increased in a dose-dependent manner serum corticosterone levels, had no effect on circulating catecholamines, reduced adrenal weights, and did not affect spleen weights although reduced their cellularities. These results show that chronic AMPH have important effects on immune function, particularly on humoral immune response because it reduced the circulating B cell population by half. In addition, AMPH plays an important role in the redistribution and trafficking of leukocytes, and both effects seem to be mediated by sympathetic innervation of the lymphoid organs.  相似文献

Lymphocyte subpopulation as well as other hematological properties were compared between arterial and venous bloods of Wistar-Imamichi rats. Lymphocyte subsets were defined with four monoclonal antibodies which were specific to the respective cell surface glycoproteins. Using these monoclonal antibodies, subsets of B lymphocytes, T lymphocytes, helper T lymphocytes, and suppressor and cytotoxic T lymphocytes in the peripheral lymphocytes were identified. The blood samples were taken from aorta abdominalis and venae cava caudalis. The population of these subsets were enumerated by a laser flow-cytometry system. The result showed that there was no significant difference in hematological properties between the arterial and venous blood except in leukocyte count and hemoglobin concentration. The difference in leukocyte counts was thought to depend mainly on the fluctuation of the lymphocyte counts. However, no significant difference was recognized in the proportion of positive cells to each monoclonal antibody. It was concluded that the difference in leukocyte counts found between the arterial and venous bloods of the Wistar-Imamichi rat did not produce any effects on the proportion of the subpopulation in the peripheral lymphocytes, and the lymphocyte subpopulations in both arterial and venous bloods were substantially equivalent to each other.  相似文献

In 30 persons with essential granulocytopenia, lithium carbonate in doses of 12.5 mg/kg per body weight was applied during 10 days. This resulted in an increased absolute neutrophil count and total leukocyte count as well as increased percentage of cells reducing NBT in the spontaneous NBT test according to Park. Prior to the beginning of treatment, patients with granulocytopenia exhibited an elevated percentage of NBT-positive cells in comparison to the control group of 28 healthy persons. The significance of this observation for treating granulocytopenia by means of the agent mentioned above is discussed.  相似文献

Long term (12-48 h) extracorporeal circulation without and with irradiation of the blood was performed in normal and splenectomized dogs in order to observe the effect of these procedures on blood leukocyte counts including CFU-C. A transient granulocytopenia and a decrease of lymphocyte count were observed. The blood CFU-C level diminished to a very low level and remained low for the whole time of the experiments. There was no significant difference between the results of procedures with or without irradiation. The similar effect of a shortened tubing system on the blood leukocyte count is also reported. Heparin infusion alone did not decrease the peripheral CFU-C concentration. The possible explanations for the observed phenomena are discussed.  相似文献

Leukocytosis of exercise: role of cardiac output and catecholamines   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
The effect of propranolol (5 mg iv) on the leukocytosis of exercise was studied in seven normal young males. Leukocyte counts, plasma norepinephrine (NE), epinephrine (E), and cardiac output were measured at rest and in the steady state of several submaximal work loads when subjects exercised on a cycle ergometer. The results in control experiments were compared with those obtained on a different day with propranolol. Propranolol decreased heart rate at all work loads (P less than 0.001) but had no effect on the increase in cardiac output at increasing work loads. Plasma NE and E levels were similar at rest and in exercise in control and propranolol studies. There was no effect of propranolol on the increase in leukocyte counts with increasing work loads. Although propranolol did not affect the increase in total leukocyte count, the increase in lymphocyte count at higher work loads was less with propranolol. We conclude that the demargination of leukocytes from the pulmonary circulation in exercise is probably a mechanical effect of the increase in cardiac output. However, we have not excluded a contribution from a humoral event that would decrease the adherence of leukocytes to endothelium during exercise. The smaller increase in lymphocytes at higher work loads in the presence of propranolol suggests that catecholamines affect the lymphocyte count over and above their effect on cardiac output.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the Abbott CELL-DYN Sapphire cytometer for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell count and differentiation. METHODS: One hundred three analyses of CSF cells by the CELL-DYN Sapphire were compared with routine cell count and microscopic differentiation and correlation coefficients calculated. RESULTS: The total cell count of both methods correlated well. The detection of erythrocytes was good (0.898), and a higher content of erythrocytes >100/microL had little effect on total leukocyte count. The correlation between both methods was best with higher leukocyte counts >25/microL (r=0.987), whereas at cell counts <25/microL, the correlation was considerably less precise (r=0.613). For the differentiation of cells, lymphocytes and neutrophils showed moderate correlation. The results for monocytes and eosinophils did not correlate. CONCLUSION: The results for the total cell count in this study are comparable with those achieved with the Bayer Advia 120. While the Abbott CELL-DYN Sapphire yielded slightly better results for erythrocytes and total cell count with a higher erythrocyte content, the Advia 120 achieved slightly better results of lymphocyte and neutrophil count in a previous study.  相似文献

In 20 untreated male patients with cancer of the larynx, aged 35 to 55 years, the significant increase in the absolute count of beta-glucuronidase-positive lymphocytes in the peripheral blood was examined by means of the cytochemical method of Hayashi et al. (1964). The increase was due to an elevated absolute count of lymphocytes exhibiting the granular-diffuse and the diffuse enzymatic reaction; no significant changes were observed with regard to lymphocytes with the granular type of reaction. The authors discuss the significance of their observations for the evaluation of lymphocyte immune response against tumour specific antigens in patients with cancer of the larynx.  相似文献

Cell-mediated immune response after the administration of MDMA alone and in combination with alcohol was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, cross-over pilot clinical trial conducted in four healthy MDMA consumers who received single oral doses of 75 mg MDMA (n = 2) or 100 mg MDMA (n = 2), alcohol (0.8 mg/kg), MDMA and alcohol, or placebo. Acute MDMA treatment produced a time-dependent immune dysfunction associated with MDMA plasma concentrations. Although total leukocyte count remained unchanged, there was a decrease in the CD4 T/CD8 T-cell ratio as well as in the percentage of mature T lymphocytes, probably because of a decrease in both the percentage and absolute number of T helper cells. The decrease in CD4 T-cell counts and in the functional responsiveness of lymphocytes to mitogenic stimulation was dose-dependent. The correlation between MDMA pharmacokinetics and the profile of MDMA-induced immune dysfunction suggests that alteration of the immune system may be mediated by the central nervous system. Alcohol consumption produced a decrease in T helper cells, B lymphocytes, and PHA-induced lymphocyte proliferation. Combined MDMA and alcohol produced the greatest suppressive effect on CD4 T-cell count and PHA-stimulated lymphoproliferation. Immune function was partially restored at 24 hours. These results provide the first evidence that recreational use of MDMA alone or in combination with alcohol alters the immunological status.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to examine the effects of zinc supplementation on some hematological parameters. Sixty newborn male broiler chicks were utilized in the study. Zinc (Zn) was added into drinking water at levels of 0, 125, 500, and 1000 mg/kg. In the study, there was no significant difference between control and Zn-supplemented groups in erythrocyte count, hemoglobin amount, hematocrit levels, total leukocyte count, and differential leukocyte % levels, but the α-naphthyl acetate esterase ANAE(+) lymphocyte rate significantly (p<0.05) increased in the 125-ppm Zn-supplemented group compared with the control group. In conclusion, the data obtained may be beneficial in demonstrating the effects of zinc on, at least, these parameters.  相似文献

Space flight studies using the Animal Enclosure Module (AEM) make it possible to investigate the role of microgravity on animal physiology and behavior. In this study, we compared the health and well-being of mice housed at different densities in AEM simulators (AEMS), to vivarium shoebox (control) cages (VSBC). A stress assessment battery (SAB) of measures was developed to evaluate mouse health and well-being, and to determine if any of the population sizes resulted in a stressful environment. The SAB was based, in part, on recommendations of a NASA Workshop on Rodent Cage Sizing. It includes: 1) General assessment of appearance, 2) Behavioral assessment (video), 3) Food and water consumption, 4) Body weight changes, 5) Thymus, adrenal, spleen, heart and kidney weights, 6) Plasma corticosterone concentration, 7) Total plasma protein concentration, 8) Total blood leukocyte count, 9) Differential leukocyte count: neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio; eosinophil count, 10) Gastric histology.  相似文献

Under well-defined conditions, ribosomal RNA from Escherichia coli is fragmented by pancreatic ribonuclease, leading to the appearance of particular RNA fragments. Some of these fragments act as primers for in vitro replication of DNA extracted from blood-cell and platelet-forming tissues. In experimental rabbits they restore in a rapid and harmless way normal circulating leukocyte and platelet levels when these have been drastically decreased by various chemotherapeutic agents mainly used in anticancer therapy. Imbalance between polynuclear and lymphocyte count provoked in rabbits by cyclophosphamide can be rapidly corrected by treating the animal with active RNA fragments.  相似文献

The concept of peaking ensures that athletes have trained to attain their absolute peak performance levels prior to a competition. This study investigates the effects of peaking on the functions of neutrophils and lymphocytes in university soccer players during a five‐day soccer training camp followed by two weeks of tapering. The study subjects were 22 soccer players who were members of a university soccer club. We carried out our investigation during a five‐day training camp and two weeks after the training camp (i.e. the tapering period). We measured body composition, immune‐related parameters (leukocyte count, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, immunoglobulins and complements), myogenic enzymes, superoxide dismutase activity (SOD) and neutrophil functions [reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, phagocytic activity, serum opsonic activity and lymphocyte subtypes]. Leukocyte and neutrophil counts tend to increase after the training camp compared with values before the training camp, and recovered during the conditioning period, although the final values were still lower than those before the training camp. The amount of ROS production per neutrophil and level of SOD decreased significantly during the conditioning period compared with before the training camp (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, respectively). Levels of Th1 cells decreased significantly during the conditioning period compared with the training camp (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the period of two weeks for the tapering period was considered insufficient to allow the athletes’ immune function to recover completely after an intensive training camp.
