The influence of concurrent pregnancy until the third lactation on reproduction was studied in four strains of mice (SHN, SLN, C3H/He and GRS/A) as a possible step to evaluate the efficiency of this system on offspring production. In all strains, little difference was observed between sequential and concurrent pregnancy and lactation groups in any parameter as the index of reproductivity--delivery interval, litter size, average weight and growth rate of pups, mother weight, rearing rate, still-birth rate and rate of still-born pups. Also, no difference was seen between groups of any strain, in the number of females which had three litters. The estimated number of pups weaned per female during 50 days after first being placed with males was higher in the concurrent pregnancy groups than in the sequential pregnancy groups of all strains. Meanwhile, the incidence of spontaneous mammary tumors, the major characteristic of these strains, was consistently lower in the concurrent pregnancy group in all strains. These results have demonstrated that the concurrent pregnancy and lactation system is an efficient means of mouse production.  相似文献

We have previously shown that protein restriction during lactation is associated with changes in iodine secretion into the milk and that a pup's serum leptin concentration was increased at the end of lactation. So, here we evaluate whether leptin treatment during lactation affects iodine transfer through the milk to the pups. Lactating rats were divided into two groups: the leptin (Lep) group, single injected with recombinant rat leptin (8 microg/100g of body weight, daily for 3 consecutive days), and the control (C) group that received the same volume of saline. We studied iodine transfer to the pups through the milk on Days 4, 12 and 21 of lactation. In those days, the dams were separated from their pups for 4 h. Then, the mothers received an injection of 131I (2.22x10(4) Bq ip) and the pups were allowed to nurse for 2 h. The animals were sacrificed 2 h later. Leptin, total serum T3 and total serum T4 concentrations were higher (P<.05) in pups of Lep mothers only on Day 4, suggesting a higher transfer of leptin through the milk at this period, probably with a direct stimulatory effect on thyroid hormone secretion. In other periods, however, even without a detectable increase in a pup's serum leptin concentration, maternal leptin administration increased the pup's thyroid iodine uptake (Day 12, 39%; Day 21, 34%), probably caused by a higher transfer of iodine through the milk, since they had a higher gastric content of 131I on Days 12 (31%) and 21 (128%).  相似文献

The milk yield and composition was studied during the first three lactations of a group of rats. Milk yield increased steadily throughout the three lactations, but was somewhat lower during the first than subsequent lactations. Protein concentration was similar during all three lactations and varied little with stage of lactation. In contrast the lactose concentration, which was reasonably constant for the first 8 days post partum, increased thereafter two-fold by the end of the period studied in all three lactations. However, the N-acetyl-neuraminyl lactose concentration showed somewhat reciprocal changes. Considerable variations in the triacylglycerol concentration was found during the first lactation but few changes were observed during subsequent lactations. The free fatty acid concentration was at all times low and showed no significant changes during or between lactations. At most stages of lactation in raw milk, the major fatty acids are palmitate, oleate and linoleate. However, as lactation progresses there is an increase in the proportion of medium-chain saturated fatty acids and a corresponding decrease in the proportion of long chain unsaturated fatty acids in milk fat. Clearly the composition of milk is not invariable but changes both during and between lactations. Such changes may be expected to have some influence on the metabolism of the offspring.  相似文献

Expression of constitutively activated Akt in the mammary glands of transgenic mice results in a delay in post-lactational involution. We now report precocious lipid accumulation in the alveolar epithelium of mouse mammary tumor virus-myr-Akt transgenic mice accompanied by a lactation defect that results in a 50% decrease in litter weight over the first 9 days of lactation. Although ductal structures and alveolar units develop normally during pregnancy, cytoplasmic lipid droplets appeared precociously in mammary epithelial cells in early pregnancy and were accompanied by increased expression of adipophilin, which is associated with lipid droplets. By late pregnancy the lipid droplets had become significantly larger than in nontransgenic mice, and they persisted into lactation. The fat content of milk from lactating myr-Akt transgenic mice was 65-70% by volume compared to 25-30% in wild-type mice. The diminished growth of pups nursed by transgenic mothers could result from the high viscosity of the milk and the inability of the pups to remove sufficient quantities of milk by suckling. Transduction of the CIT3 mammary epithelial cell line with a recombinant human adenovirus encoding myr-Akt resulted in an increase in glucose transport and lipid biosynthesis, suggesting that Akt plays an important role in regulation of lipid metabolism.  相似文献

Milk yield and composition of major milk constituents were measured in captive, nursing reindeer. Registration of milk production was performed during two successive lactations (2001 and 2002). The milk yield was significantly affected by week of lactation (P<0.001) and by individual (P<0.001). The lactation curve had an asymmetrical peak 3 weeks postpartum and the milk yield at peak lactation was 983 g/day (range 595-1239). The length of lactation varied from 24 to 26 weeks and average total milk production was 99.5 kg. From peak lactation the milk production decreased linearly (P<0.001) until milk production was terminated. Mean values for content of major milk constituents were 15.5% fat, 9.9% protein and 2.5% lactose. The content of fat and protein increased markedly with the lactation stage (P<0.001), while lactose showed a slight decrease (P<0.001). The milk composition was significantly affected by stage of lactation (P<0.001). There was a marginally significant decrease in protein:fat ratio (P=0.06) as protein was substituted by fat with stage of lactation. The caloric value of the milk averaged 8.7 kJ/g and increased significantly with the stage of lactation (P<0.001). The overall increase in milk gross energy content during lactation was 67.6%. The energy output averaged 7996 kJ/day at peak lactation and decreased significantly during the course of lactation (P=0.002).  相似文献

We investigated milk nutrient composition from three Asian elephant cows over the first 3 years of lactation, including two consecutive lactations in one cow. Body mass gain is presented for three calves during the first year. Milk samples (n = 74) were analyzed for dry matter (DM), fat, crude protein (CP), sugar, ash, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K); gross energy (GE) was calculated. Concentrations of most nutrients changed over lactation: DM, fat, CP, Ca, P, and GE were positively correlated to calf age; sugar was negatively correlated to calf age. GE doubled between birth (1 kcal/g) and 2 years of age (2 kcal/g). After accounting for calf age, GE, fat, Ca, and P concentrations differed among the cows. Milk composition also differed between two lactations from the same cow. When milk nutrients were expressed on a mg per kcal basis, the pattern changes: CP, Ca, and P remained relatively constant over lactation on a per energy basis. Calf mass quadrupled over the first year of life; mass gain was linear at 0.9 kg/day. Asian elephant milk composition is variable, both across lactations and between cows, complicating efforts to determine representative values for comparative studies and for the formulation of elephant milk formulas. The fact that CP, Ca, and P were all relatively constant when expressed on a per energy basis may be of biological significance. The increase in nutrient density over lactation undoubtedly limits maternal water loss, reducing the volume of milk necessary to support the calf. Studies comparing lactation in wild mammals have shown that maternal weight scales with offspring weight, milk production, or its energy. However, no study appears to have scaled milk composition with maternal or offspring weight. Although diet affects milk composition and production, their effects in biological studies have almost never seemed to be controlled. In this study, we compare two subspecies of red deer, Scottish deer, Cervus elaphus scoticus (10 lactations), and Iberian deer, Cervus elaphus hispanicus (14 lactations), kept under the same diet and housing to assess differences in hind and calf weights and their trends, milk production and composition, and their allometric relationships. Scottish hinds were heavier, and calf weight and gains were greater than Iberian ones, with greater milk production and milk protein content, but they did not differ in fat or lactose content. Calf birth weight, milk production, and protein content showed significant allometric relationships with maternal weight, but no relationship was found for fat, lactose, or any of these variables with calf birth weight. Protein content correlated with calf birth weight, and calf weight trend depended on milk protein production rather than on that of fat or lactose. Protein may be the most important milk component to explain growth and milk composition differences between closely related mammals.  相似文献

1. Progressive changes in the composition of milk from rats has been studied from day 0 to 20 of lactation and for 3 days following separation of the dams and pups at day 20 post partum. 2. The changes in concentration of Na, K and lactose suggested that secretion both prepartum and following weaning occurred by a paracellular mechanism whereas a transcellular pathway existed during established lactation. 3. The concentration of total protein and casein increased gradually throughout lactation. In contrast, the concentration of serum albumin increased and transferrin decreased markedly during early lactation. The fat content of milk declined 3-fold within 5 days of birth but the concentration of Ca, Mg and inorganic P increased. The concentration of each of these milk constituents remained constant during established lactation. 4. Following weaning the pronounced decline in lactose, K and inorganic P was negatively correlated with an increase in all other milk constituents except fat. 5. Rats fed a low energy diet produced milk with a lower fat content but with an unaltered concentration of protein and carbohydrate. The growth rate of these litters was similar for the first 5 days of lactation when compared to litters from dams fed a high energy diet. The growth rate of litters thereafter and following weaning was greater for rats fed a high energy diet.  相似文献

The effects of first calving (FC) in Holstein heifers on their first lactation, second lactation and lifetime milk production were examined from an initial database of 459 743 animals that first calved between 1 January 1990 and 31 July 2010 in Wallonia, Belgium. The FC age class (18 to 22, 22 to 26, 26 to 30, 30 to 34, 34 to 38 and 38 to 42 months), the FC season and FC year class (1990 to 1994, 1995 to 1999, 2000 to 2004 and 2005 to 2010) were considered when analysing the first and second lactation data. Lifetime data were similarly analysed, but did not include animals that calved after 2005 because many of them were still lactating. Only 24% of animals had their FC before 26 months of age. Animals that first calved between 22 and 26 months of age had more lactations and productive days during their life. They also had higher first and second lactation milk production and lifetime milk production. Summer or autumn FC improved first lactation, second lactation and lifetime milk production, as well as production per day of lactation, compared with winter or spring FC. Compared with animals that calved for the first time in 1990 to 1994, animals with a FC in 2000 to 2004 had a longer calving interval (0.5 months), fewer lactations per animal (−0.6) and fewer days in their lifetime lactation (a reduction of 144 days). As a result, the animals’ lifetime production did not increase between 1990 to 1994 and 2000 to 2004, although milk production per day of lactation (22.85v. 20.49 l/day) and per day of life (11.49v. 10.78 l/day) improved. Milk fat content was lower in 2000 to 2004 than in 1990 to 1994, but protein content remained relatively constant, probably because of the cows’ higher production level and increased dietary concentrate supplementation.  相似文献

Milk urea concentration (MU) used by dairy producers for management purposes can be affected by selection for milk traits. To assess this problem, genetic parameters for MU in Polish Holstein-Friesian cattle were estimated for the first three lactations. The genetic correlation of MU with milk production traits, lactose percentage, fat to protein ratio (FPR) and somatic cell score (SCS) were computed with two 5-trait random regression test-day models, separately for each lactation. Data used for estimation (159,044 daily observations) came from 50 randomly sampled herds. (Co)variance components were estimated with the Bayesian Gibbs sampling method. The coefficient of variation for MU in all three parities was high (40–41 %). Average daily heritabilities of MU were 0.22 for the first parity and 0.21 for the second and third lactations. Average genetic correlations for different days in milk in the first three lactations between MU and other traits varied. They were small and negative for protein percentage (from ?0.24 to ?0.11) and for SCS (from ?0.14 to ?0.09). The weakest genetic correlation between MU and fat percentage, and between MU and lactose percentage were observed (from ?0.10 to 0.10). Negative average genetic correlation with the fat to protein ratio was observed only in the first lactation (?0.14). Genetic correlations with yield traits were positive and ranged from low to moderate for protein (from 0.09 to 0.33), fat (from 0.16 to 0.35) and milk yield (from 0.20 to 0.42). These results suggest that the selection on yield traits and SCS tends to increase MU slightly.  相似文献

Pregnancy and calving are elements indispensable for dairy production, but the daily milk yield of cows decline as pregnancy progresses, especially during the late stages. Therefore, the effect of stage of pregnancy on daily milk yield must be clarified to accurately estimate the breeding values and lifetime productivity of cows. To improve the genetic evaluation model for daily milk yield and determine the effect of the timing of pregnancy on productivity, we used a test-day model to assess the effects of stage of pregnancy on variance component estimates, daily milk yields and 305-day milk yield during the first three lactations of Holstein cows. Data were 10 646 333 test-day records for the first lactation; 8 222 661 records for the second; and 5 513 039 records for the third. The data were analyzed within each lactation by using three single-trait random regression animal models: one model that did not account for the stage of pregnancy effect and two models that did. The effect of stage of pregnancy on test-day milk yield was included in the model by applying a regression on days pregnant or fitting a separate lactation curve for each days open (days from calving to pregnancy) class (eight levels). Stage of pregnancy did not affect the heritability estimates of daily milk yield, although the additive genetic and permanent environmental variances in late lactation were decreased by accounting for the stage of pregnancy effect. The effects of days pregnant on daily milk yield during late lactation were larger in the second and third lactations than in the first lactation. The rates of reduction of the 305-day milk yield of cows that conceived fewer than 90 days after the second or third calving were significantly (P<0.05) greater than that after the first calving. Therefore, we conclude that differences between the negative effects of early pregnancy in the first, compared with later, lactations should be included when determining the optimal number of days open to maximize lifetime productivity in dairy cows.  相似文献

Associations were analysed between polymorphisms of the growth hormone gene (GH-MspI) (localized in intron 3) and milk production traits of Beijing Holstein cows (a total of 543 cows). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method was used for identification of various geno-types. Frequencies of genotypes were 0.77, 0,21 and 0.02 for A/A, A/B and B/B, respectively. The frequency of theGH A allele is 0.875. The results of the least squares means show that in all three lactations, theGH A/A cows yielded more milk (P < 0.01 for lactation I andP 0.05 for lactations II and III), whereas A/B cows showed higher milk fat content than A/A individuals (P < 0.05 for lactations I and II, andP < 0.01 for lactation III). The A/A cows yielded more fat than A/B individuals (P < 0.01 only in lactation I). The A/A cows yielded more milk protein than A/B individuals (P < 0.01 for lactations I, II, and III). The A/A cows produced milk of higher protein content than of A/B individuals (P < 0.05 only in lactation II).  相似文献

Test day milk yields of three lactations in Sfakia sheep were analyzed fitting a random regression (RR) model, regressing on orthogonal polynomials of the stage of the lactation period, i.e. days in milk. Univariate (UV) and multivariate (MV) analyses were also performed for four stages of the lactation period, represented by average days in milk, i.e. 15, 45, 70 and 105 days, to compare estimates obtained from RR models with estimates from UV and MV analyses. The total number of test day records were 790, 1314 and 1041 obtained from 214, 342 and 303 ewes in the first, second and third lactation, respectively. Error variances and covariances between regression coefficients were estimated by restricted maximum likelihood. Models were compared using likelihood ratio tests (LRTs). Log likelihoods were not significantly reduced when the rank of the orthogonal Legendre polynomials (LPs) of lactation stage was reduced from 4 to 2 and homogenous variances for lactation stages within lactations were considered. Mean weighted heritability estimates with RR models were 0.19, 0.09 and 0.08 for first, second and third lactation, respectively. The respective estimates obtained from UV analyses were 0.14, 0.12 and 0.08, respectively. Mean permanent environmental variance, as a proportion of the total, was high at all stages and lactations ranging from 0.54 to 0.71. Within lactations, genetic and permanent environmental correlations between lactation stages were in the range from 0.36 to 0.99 and 0.76 to 0.99, respectively. Genetic parameters for additive genetic and permanent environmental effects obtained from RR models were different from those obtained from UV and MV analyses.  相似文献

Phocid seals are one of the few groups of mammals capable of sustaining the energetic demands of lactation entirely through body nutrient stores while fasting. Lactation performance of the female in turn influences the rate and pattern of pup growth. We examined variation in and patterns of milk composition and production, maternal energy output, and pup growth and energy deposition over the entire lactation period in 18 grey seal mother-pup pairs using hydrogen isotope (3H2O and D2O) dilution. Milk composition was independent of maternal mass and nutrient stores, indicating dependence on other physiological and genetic factors. Heavier females lactated longer (r2=0.653, P<0.001), had higher total milk outputs (r2=0.652, P<0.001), and produced larger pups at weaning (r2=0.417, P=0.005). While fatter females lactated for longer periods of time (r2=0.595, P<0.001), females with a larger lean body mass at parturition produced more milk (r2=0.579, P<0.001). Total milk energy output was the strongest predictor of pup weaning mass, which, along with the pup's efficiency of energy storage, accounted for 91% of the variation in weaning mass. Nevertheless, there was sufficient plasticity in milk composition and energy output that some smaller females produced relatively large pups. Few females appeared to deplete body nutrients to the point where it might limit the duration of lactation.  相似文献

Heat stress at the time of conception affects the subsequent milk production of primiparous Holstein cows; however, it is unknown whether these effects are maintained across multiple lactations. Therefore, the objective of the current study was to examine the relationship between periconceptional heat stress and measurements of milk production and composition in cows retained within a herd for multiple lactations. National Dairy Herd Improvement Association data was obtained from Dairy Records Management Systems. Records included milk production data and milk composition data from over 75,000 and 44,000 Holstein cows, respectively, born between 2000 and 2010 in Florida, Georgia, and Texas. Conception dates were calculated by subtracting 276 d from the recorded birth date. Records for cows conceived within the months of June, July, and August were retained as heat stress conceived (HSC) cows; cows conceived within the months of December, January, and February were retained as thermoneutral conceived (TNC) contemporaries. Adjusted 305-d mature equivalent milk, protein percent and fat percent were evaluated with a mixed model ANOVA using SAS. Milk production was significantly affected by periconceptional heat stress. When a significant difference or tendency for a difference was detected between the HSC and TNC cows, the TNC produced more milk in all but one comparison. The advantage in milk production for the TNC cows over the HSC cows ranged from 82 ± 42 to 399 ± 61 kg per lactation. Alterations in fat and protein percentage were variable and most often detected in first lactations (first > second or third). Overall, the most striking result of this study is the consistency of the relationship between HSC and milk production. The nature of this relationship suggests that heat stress at or around the time of conception impairs cow milk yield throughout her lifetime.  相似文献

We investigated the relationships between conception rates (CRs) at first service in Japanese Holstein heifers (i.e. animals that had not yet had their first calf) and cows and their test-day (TD) milk yields. Data included records of artificial insemination (AI) for heifers and cows that had calved for the first time between 2000 and 2008 and their TD milk yields at 6 through 305 days in milk (DIM) from first through third lactations. CR was defined as a binary trait for which first AI was a failure or success. A threshold-linear animal model was applied to estimate genetic correlations between CRs of heifers or cows and TD milk yield at various lactation stages. Two-trait genetic analyses were performed for every combination of CR and TD milk yield by using the Bayesian method with Gibbs sampling. The posterior means of the heritabilities of CR were 0.031 for heifers, 0.034 for first-lactation cows and 0.028 for second-lactation cows. Heritabilities for TD milk yield increased from 0.324 to 0.433 with increasing DIM but decreased slightly after 210 DIM during first lactation. These heritabilities from the second and third lactations were higher during late stages of lactation than during early stages. Posterior means of the genetic correlations between heifer CR and all TD yields were positive (range, 0.082 to 0.287), but those between CR of cows and milk yields during first or second lactation were negative (range, −0.121 to −0.250). Therefore, during every stage of lactation, selection in the direction of increasing milk yield may reduce CR in cows. The genetic relationships between CR and lactation curve shape were quite weak, because the genetic correlations between CR and TD milk yield were constant during the lactation period.  相似文献

Transgenic mice expressing human non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug activated gene 1 (NAG-1) have less adipose tissue, improved insulin sensitivity, lower insulin levels and are resistant to dietary induced obesity. The hNAG-1 expressing mice are more metabolically active with a higher energy expenditure. This study investigates female reproduction in the hNAG-1 transgenic mice and finds the female mice are fertile but have reduced pup survival after birth. Examination of the mammary glands in these mice suggests that hNAG-1 expressing mice have altered mammary epithelial development during pregnancy, including reduced occupancy of the fat pad and increased apoptosis via TUNEL positive cells on lactation day 2. Pups nursing from hNAG-1 expressing dams have reduced milk spots compared to pups nursing from WT dams. When CD-1 pups were cross-fostered with hNAG-1 or WT dams; reduced milk volume was observed in pups nursing from hNAG-1 dams compared to pups nursing from WT dams in a lactation challenge study. Milk was isolated from WT and hNAG-1 dams, and the milk was found to have secreted NAG-1 protein (approximately 25 ng/mL) from hNAG-1 dams. The WT dams had no detectable hNAG-1 in the milk. A decrease in non-esterified free fatty acids in the milk of hNAG-1 dams was observed. Altered milk composition suggests that the pups were receiving inadequate nutrients during perinatal development. To examine this hypothesis serum was isolated from pups and clinical chemistry points were measured. Male and female pups nursing from hNAG-1 dams had reduced serum triglyceride concentrations. Microarray analysis revealed that genes involved in lipid metabolism are differentially expressed in hNAG-1 mammary glands. Furthermore, the expression of Cidea/CIDEA that has been shown to regulate milk lipid secretion in the mammary gland was reduced in hNAG-1 mammary glands. This study suggests that expression of hNAG-1 in mice leads to impaired lactation and reduces pup survival due to altered milk quality and quantity.  相似文献

Human intrauterine growth restriction is often associated with uteroplacental insufficiency and a decline in nutrient and oxygen supply to the fetus. This study investigated the effects of uteroplacental insufficiency and intrauterine growth restriction (Restricted) or reducing litter size for normally grown pups (Reduced Litter) on maternal mammary development and function, milk composition, offspring milk intake, and their resultant effects on postnatal growth. Uteroplacental insufficiency was surgically induced by bilateral uterine vessel ligation on day 18 of gestation in the Wistar Kyoto rat. At birth, a group of sham control rats had their litter size reduced to five (Reduced Litter) to match that of the Restricted group. Cohorts of rats were terminally anesthetized on day 20 of gestation or day 6 of lactation, and a third group was studied throughout lactation. Restricted pups had a lower birth weight (by 16%) and litter size (by 36%) compared with controls, as well as reduced mammary parathyroid hormone-related protein content and milk ionic calcium concentrations associated with reduced total pup calcium. Restricted dams with lower circulating progesterone experienced premature lactogenesis, producing less milk per pup with altered composition compared with controls, further slowing growth during lactation. Reducing litter size of pups born of normal birth weight (Reduced Litter) was associated with decreased pup growth, highlighting the importance of appropriate controls. The present study demonstrates that uteroplacental insufficiency impairs mammary function, compromises milk quality and quantity, and reduces calcium transport into milk, further restraining postnatal growth.  相似文献

Glucocorticoids have been shown to influence mammary gland function in vivo and to stimulate milk protein gene expression in vitro. Here, we describe the generation and analysis of a mouse model to study glucocorticoid receptor (GR, NR3C1) function in mammary epithelial cells. Using the Cre-loxP system, mutant mice were obtained in which the GR gene is specifically deleted in epithelial cells during lobuloalveolar development, leading to a complete loss of epithelial GR at the onset of lactation. Mice harboring the mammary-epithelial-specific GR mutation are able to nurse their litters until weaning. During pregnancy, however, GR deficiency delays lobuloalveolar development, leading to an incomplete epithelial penetration of the mammary fat pad that persists throughout lactation. We identified a reduced cell proliferation during lobuloalveolar development as reason for this delay. This reduction is compensated for by increased epithelial proliferation after parturition in the mutant glands. During lactation, GR-deficient mammary epithelium is capable of milk production and secretion. The expression of two milk proteins, namely whey acidic protein and beta-casein, during lactation was not critically affected in the absence of GR. We conclude that GR function is not essential for alveolar differentiation and milk production, but influences cell proliferation during lobuloalveolar development.  相似文献

Relationships among milk progesterone, concentrate allocation, energy balance (EB), milk yield and conception rate were studied in 146 lactations in 94 moderate yielding cows. All animals were of the dual purpose breed Norwegian cattle, and were monitored through their first and second lactations. The cows were assigned three different concentrate allocations and had free access to grass silage. Energy balance was estimated by subtracting energy required for maintenance and lactation from energy intake. Milk progesterone concentration was determined three times weekly from calving until pregnancy. The cumulative progesterone concentration was calculated as area under the progesterone curve for the first three luteal phases postpartum. The conception rate increased linearly by rising milk progesterone for values of cumulative progesterone in the lowest third of the range, whereas the likelihood of conception did not differ between milk progesterone concentrations within the upper two-thirds. This implies that the progesterone values were below a threshold value for optimal reproductive success in one-third of the services performed in this study. Milk progesterone concentrations during the third luteal phase postpartum were low when the high-energy diet was fed. Negative EB was associated with reduced values for milk progesterone during the third luteal phase in second parity cows. Likewise, milk yield was inversely related to progesterone levels during both the first and third luteal phases postpartum in second parity cows. Energy balance was higher and milk yield lower during peak lactation among second parity cows that conceived compared to cows that remained open after the first artificial insemination. The present study have demonstrated an association between likelihood of conception and the energy coverage in Norwegian cattle. This relationship is possibly mediated through progesterone deficiency.  相似文献
