Inherent uncertainties in regional ecosystems can affect the modeling processes and the relevant results for managing and planning the real-world problems. In this study, an interval stochastic credibility-constrained programming (ISCP) method is developed for tacking multiple uncertainties expressed as intervals, fuzzy sets and probability distributions. The ISCP method is applied to planning regional ecosystem sustainability in the City of Dongying (China), in which ecosystem services valuation approach is directly incorporated within the optimization processes. Results associated with credibility levels of resources availability and the effects of sensitive ecological factors on the ecosystem services and ecological benefit are analyzed. Results show that a tighter limitation of ecological resources availability could cause lower economic development, particularly for oil field and oil refinery industries. Tradeoffs among social, economic and natural subsystems are also examined under different credibility levels, which are provided for generating optimal strategies in supporting of balancing the city’s economic and ecological sustainable development. Results of sensitivity analysis reveal that runoff coefficient is one of the most sensitive ecological factors in the process of calculating the ecological benefit. The findings can provide scientific bases for the integration of economic and ecological activities as well as the development of regional ecosystem-sustainability strategies.  相似文献

A system of mutually coupled Van der Pol equations is derived from an extended version of the Wilson and Cowan model for the dynamics of a number of excitatory and inhibitory neural subsets. In the lowest order of approximation, interactions between excitatory and inhibitory subsets appear as linear elastic coupling, while those within and between excitatory and excitatory subsets appear as nonlinear frictional coupling. The case of two coupled oscillators is investigated by the method of averaging and the stability conditions for two mode oscillations are obtained. Internal resonance is also discussed briefly in the case of identical oscillators.  相似文献

This paper presents an example of a distributed monitor system, BMON2, which was developed and is in daily use in a biological image processing environment. Some useful aspects of such a system are discussed, particularly those which make for easier biologist-user interaction and system extensibility. Low-energy ions exist widely in the natural world. People had neglected the interaction between low-energy ions and material; it was even more out of the question to study the relation of low-energy ions and the complicated organism until the biological effects of low-energy ion implantation were discovered in 1989. Nowadays, the value of low-energy ion beam implantation, as a new breeding way, has drawn extensive attention of biologists and breeding experts. In this review, the understanding and utilization of microbial breeding by low-energy ion beam irradiation is summarized, including the characteristics of an ion beam bioengineering facility, present status of the technology of low-energy ions for microbial breeding, and new insights into microbial biotechnology.  相似文献

During the last decade considerable interest has been evinced by scientists on the possible influence of earth's electromagnetic environment on human and animal physiology. While some studies on this topic have been reported from high magnetic latitudes — USSR and central Europe — no work has been done in very low latitude and equatorial regions. The present study, undertaken to fill this gap, has been carried out at the low latitude of Madras (Magnetic Dip 10°). Pulsating magnetic fields in the frequency range of 0.01 Hz to 20 Hz and with amplitudes of ±5 and ±50 gamma were impressed on test animals, normal human subjects and Yoga practitioners lying supine inside a 4-member Fanselau-Braunbeck coil system with the heads oriented in the four cardinal directions with respect to earth's magnetic field. The entire set of exposures of the test animals and humans was given under two ambient magnetic fields namely, against full local geomagnetic field of about 40,000 gamma and half this value. In the animals ECG, EEG, Tail Blood Flow and Respiration were recorded continuously on a polygraph. The biochemical tests carried out were postprandial blood sugar, serum cholesterol and plasma cortisol. Neurochemical assays of Noradrenaline, Adrenaline, Dopamine, Serotonin and 5 Hydroxy Indole Acetic acid were done on the brain tissue, myocardium and adrenal glands, immediately after complete set of exposures of the animals in all four orientations. Motor activity and rectal temperature were also noted before and after the exposures. The Control animals were also subjected to exactly the same investigations as the test animals without, however, exposing them to the magnetic fields. These observations revealed some decisive changes in certain parameters for certain frequencies of the impressed field and also in specific orientations of the test animals. Similar studies carried out on normal human subjects and practitioners of Yoga and Meditation, also showed certain decisive changes in the electrophysiology, neurochemistry and biochemistry when oriented to North and East. The North orientation appeared to induce inhibition of brain electrical activity and associated neurochemical and biochemical changes, whereas the East orientation showed a response of calm, blissful alertness.  相似文献

There is a growing interest in new methods to generate bio-inspired, chemically diverse, sequence-defined synthetic polymers. Solid-phase submonomer approaches offer facile access to these types of materials, since they take advantage of readily available synthons. Submonomer approaches to date have been applied to peptidomimetics with oligo-amide backbones. Here we extend the approach to a phosphorous-containing backbone, where N-substituted phosphoramidate oligomers are constructed from a set of amine submonomers, diphenyl H-phosphonate, and cyclohexane diol. The key chemical steps in chain elongation are a chain extension reaction based on H-phosphonate (P III) chemistry, and a side chain attachment step based on the Atherton-Todd reaction. Cheap, stable chemical reagents are used without heating, all reaction times are 30 minutes or less and open to air, and no main-chain protecting groups are required. Phosphoramitoid tetramers and pentamers displaying a variety of side chain functionalities were synthesized by a three-step solid-phase submonomer method, typically with >85% crude purities.  相似文献

Assortative mating is an important factor in the process of speciation. Models of speciation frequently deal with small founder populations often with mating preferences based on ecological traits or habitat preferences. Small populations, on the other hand might suffer from inbreeding. However, few studies have explored the combined effects of assortative mating and inbreeding in such populations. Can they speciate, or are they doomed to eventually go extinct? With this simulation we show that assortative mating based on similarities increases the possibility for change in a population, as long as the population does not suffer from inbreeding depression. Inbred populations seem not to be able to cope with strong assortative mating, as this is likely to elevate the level of inbreeding, increasing the risks of inbreeding depression and as a result decreasing population mean fitness. This in turn hinders the possibility of change, and instead might drive the population to extinction.  相似文献

We consider a simple stochastic unit realized by digital ANDs and ORs. The function of the unit is inspired by nerve cells found in brains of higher organisms. Information is carried by trains of pulses in time. Therefore, time is introduced into the model as an essential variable. Principles of stochastic computing are used to appropriately model weighted summation of inputs. The model unit allows to process analog information as is provided by observables of real environment. The statistical properties of the model are examined. The traditional saturation non-linearity of neurons emerges as a natural consequence of signal gating by synapses. Background  

Biological effects of nuclear factor-κB (NFκB) can differ tremendously depending on the cellular context. For example, NFκB induced by interleukin-1 (IL-1) is converted from an inhibitor of death receptor induced apoptosis into a promoter of ultraviolet-B radiation (UVB)-induced apoptosis. This conversion requires prolonged NFκB activation and is facilitated by IL-1 + UVB-induced abrogation of the negative feedback loop for NFκB, involving a lack of inhibitor of κB (IκBα) protein reappearance. Permanent activation of the upstream kinase IKKβ results from UVB-induced inhibition of the catalytic subunit of Ser-Thr phosphatase PP2A (PP2Ac), leading to immediate phosphorylation and degradation of newly synthesized IκBα.  相似文献

Longevity is a key demographic characteristic of herbaceous plants, but often unknown. While root or rhizome growth ring analysis may allow assessment plant longevity directly and conveniently, so far it has only been used in a few case studies of herbaceous dicotyledonous species. To evaluate whether growth ring analysis is applicable to a large spectrum of herbaceous dicotyledonous plant species, we used plant communities of varying species richness in a 12-year-old grassland biodiversity experiment (Jena Experiment). Cross-sections of the oldest available part of the plants were analysed for all available dicotyledonous perennial herb species (S = 37), which represented three functional groups: legumes, small herbs and tall herbs. We studied 1664 individuals representing the genet in clearly distinguishable plant individuals, and the ramet in clonally growing plant species.Roots of eleven species with permanent primary root were harvested. They showed clearly visible growth rings. Longevity was extended with a mean age of 4.0 years (SE = 0.3). Seven species, which also had a permanent primary root, showed less distinct growth rings. They were shorter-lived (mean age 3.0 years (SE = 0.3)). In six species with obligate clonal growth mostly rhizomes were sampled, but individuals were still identifiable due to their growth habit. For these species growth rings were clearly visible. Longevity of rhizomes was extended (mean age 3.3 years (SE = 0.5)). In 13 species with obligate clonal growth also rhizomes were sampled, but plant individuals were not identifiable. For these species longevity was low (mean age 2.1 years (SE = 0.2)). Community mean age was significantly lower when small herbs were present and higher when tall herbs were present, while legumes had no effect on community mean age. In summary, anatomical analysis of roots and rhizomes is a suitable tool to study the population age structure of a large spectrum of perennial dicotyledonous herbaceous species and therefore opens new perspectives for demographic studies at the community level.  相似文献

Cyclotides are naturally occurring mini-proteins that have a cyclic backbone and a knotted arrangement of three disulfide bonds. They are remarkably stable and have a diverse range of therapeutically useful biological activities, including antimicrobial and anti-HIV activity, although their natural function appears to be plant defence agents. Cyclotides are amenable to chemical synthesis; however currently most bioactivity studies have involved the use of peptides extracted from plants. Plant cell culture technology shows promise towards the goal of producing therapeutically active cyclotides in qualities and quantities required for drug development.  相似文献

We present a 2-D model for simulation of root density and plant nitrogen (N) uptake for crops grown in agricultural systems, based on a modification of the root density equation originally proposed by Gerwitz and Page in J Appl Ecol 11:773–781, (1974). A root system form parameter was introduced to describe the distribution of root length vertically and horizontally in the soil profile. The form parameter can vary from 0 where root density is evenly distributed through the soil profile, to 8 where practically all roots are found near the surface. The root model has other components describing root features, such as specific root length and plant N uptake kinetics. The same approach is used to distribute root length horizontally, allowing simulation of root growth and plant N uptake in row crops. The rooting depth penetration rate and depth distribution of root density were found to be the most important parameters controlling crop N uptake from deeper soil layers. The validity of the root distribution model was tested with field data for white cabbage, red beet, and leek. The model was able to simulate very different root distributions, but it was not able to simulate increasing root density with depth as seen in the experimental results for white cabbage. The model was able to simulate N depletion in different soil layers in two field studies. One included vegetable crops with very different rooting depths and the other compared effects of spring wheat and winter wheat. In both experiments variation in spring soil N availability and depth distribution was varied by the use of cover crops. This shows the model sensitivity to the form parameter value and the ability of the model to reproduce N depletion in soil layers. This work shows that the relatively simple root model developed, driven by degree days and simulated crop growth, can be used to simulate crop soil N uptake and depletion appropriately in low N input crop production systems, with a requirement of few measured parameters.  相似文献

Summary A quantitative method that optimizes the mapping of species diversity in phytogeographic studies is described. Diversity is computed on the basis of species number per unit area. The optimal size of unit area for which diversity is computed is held to be that which maximises the diversity difference between species-rich and species-poor regions. An example is given using Turkish Papaver. A very high correspondence is found between intuitive insights based on long study and the computer-generated diversity maps. Phytogeographic elements were also determined by computer after gridding Turkey at the scale discovered to be optimal for diversity and scoring the grid squares for presence-absence of each species. In this case, too, quite high correspondence was found between the computer and intuitive results.Nomenclature follows Cullen (1965).The authors express their thanks to Mr. K.
