The thermoluminescence (TL) characterizations of γ‐irradiated KCl:Dy phosphor for radiation dosimetry are reported. All phosphors were synthesized via a wet chemical route. Minimum fading of TL intensity is recorded in the prepared material. TL in samples containing different concentrations of Dy impurity was studied at different γ‐irradiation doses. Peak TL intensities varied sublinearly with γ‐ray dose in all samples, but were linear between 0.08 to 0.75 kGy for the KCl:Dy (0.1 mol%) sample. This material may be useful for dosimetry within this range of γ‐ray dose. TL peak height was found to be dependant on the concentration (0.05–0.5 mol%) of added Dy in the host. The lyoluminescence (LL), thermoluminescence (TL) and mechanoluminescence (ML) of γ‐ray‐irradiated coloured powder of KCl:Dy (0.05–0.5 mol%) phosphors are reported in this paper. To understand the mechanism of LL and ML, the LL and ML spectra are compared with TL studies. The variation of intensity of respective luminescence with different γ‐ray doses and with different concentrations of Dy3+ ion doped in KCl is found to be similar in nature. The intensities differ from each other, but their nature is found to be similar with γ‐ray exposures. The ML glow peak intensity is linear up to high 1 kGy exposure as compared to LL (up to 0.5 kGy) and TL (up to 0.75 kGy) techniques. Therefore, according to our results, the recommendation is that KCl:Dy (0.1 mol%) phosphor prepared by wet chemical technique is useful for high‐dose measurements using the ML technique for accidental radiation dosimetry. The present study describes for the first time thermoluminescence (TL) characterization of turtle shell. A fossil shell was collected from the Dongargaon area in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, India. TL was recorded and a comparative study of TL for the above material was performed to understand the special TL characteristics of the shell. The shell was irradiated with 60Co γ‐radiation to study its TL properties. The sample displayed two good TL peaks at 135°C and 255°C. A linear dose–response curve for the irradiated sample was produced for the dose range 0.79–28.5 kGy; this sample of turtle shell (fossil) may be useful as a high dose dosimetry phosphor in this range. This geological sample was further characterized using X‐ray diffraction to confirm its phase structure and by scanning electron microscopy , Fourier transform infrared and wavelength dispersive X‐ray fluorescence spectroscopy to determine morphology, vibration, and elemental composition as ppm or percentage of the sample, respectively. Kinetic parameters of the TL glow peak were calculated using three different methods.  相似文献

In the present work, glass samples in the (100 − x)B2O3xLi2O binary system, with x varying from 30 to 50 mol%, were prepared using the conventional melting and moulding method, with the main objective of evaluating the thermoluminescence response when exposing these materials to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Complementary analysis based on density, optical absorption on the UV–visible region (UV–vis absorbance), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy on the medium region, X-ray diffraction, and differential thermal analysis measurements were performed. Thermoluminescence measurements of vitreous samples showed glow curves with at least one peak with a maximum temperature of ~170°C after exposure to UV radiation in the temperature range 50–250°C. Samples were also exposed to beta radiation in the temperature range 25–275°C, also showing single peaks with a maximum temperature of ~150°C.  相似文献

This work explores the thermoluminescence (TL) and photoluminescence (PL) properties of Ag/Y co-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) nanophosphor. The proposed dosimeter was prepared by the coprecipitation method and sintered at temperatures from 400°C to 1000°C in an air atmosphere. Raman spectroscopy was studied to investigate the structural features of this composition. The new proposed dosimeter revealed two peaks at 150°C and 175°C with a small shoulder at high temperature (225°C). The PL spectrum showed strong green emissions between 500 to 550 nm. The Raman spectrum showed many bands related to the interaction between ZnO, silver (Ag), and yttrium oxide (Y2O3). The rising sintering temperature enhanced the TL glow curve intensity. The Ag/Y co-doped ZnO nanophosphor showed an excellent linearity index within a dose from 1 to 4 Gy. The minimum detectable dose (MDD) of the Ag/Y co-doped ZnO nanopowder (pellets) equaled 0.518 mGy. The main TL properties were achieved in this work as follows: thermal fading (37% after 45 days at 1 and 4 Gy), optical fading (53% after 1 h and 68% after 6 h by exposure to sunlight), effective atomic number (27.6), and energy response (flat behavior from 0.1 to 1.3 MeV). Finally, the proposed material shows promising results nominated to be used for radiation measurements.  相似文献

This study reports the thermoluminescence (TL) aspects of Ca10K(PO4)7:Dy phosphor synthesized using a wet chemical method for the first time. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirm the formation of the desired crystalline phase. Surface morphological studies reveal the formation of polyhedrons and agglomerations having an average diameter of 200 nm, while energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) data show the presence and composition of the elements in appropriate amounts. The effect of Dy doping concentration has been studied on the TL properties with exposure to gamma radiations from the Co-60 source. The best TL response has been observed for 5 mol% Dy doping concentration. The glow curve is simple and consists of a single peak at 130°C. The effect of the heating rate has been studied on the TL glow curve, and the heating rate of 5°C/s shows the best TL response. The various TL properties such as annealing conditions, dose–response, TL linearity, fading, and reusability of the prepared phosphor have been studied to check its suitability as a good TL dosimeter (TLD). TL characterization of the phosphor reports that the TL response is linear from 5- to 2000 Gy. The results show that this phosphor can be a good TLD for the dosimetry of gamma radiations from Co-60.  相似文献

The influence of UV-B irradiation on photosynthetic oxygen evolution by isolated spinach thylakoids has been investigated using thermoluminescence measurements. The thermoluminescence bands arising from the S2QB - (B band) and S2QA (Q band) charge recombination disappeared with increasing UV-B irradiation time. In contrast, the C band at 50°C, arising from the recombination of QA - with an accessory donor of Photosystem II, was transiently enhanced by the UV-B irradiation. The efficiency of DCMU to block QA to QB electron transfer decreased after irradiation as detected by the incomplete suppression of the B band by DCMU. The flash-induced oscillatory pattern of the B band was modified in the UV-B irradiated samples, indicating a decrease in the number of centers with reduced QB. Based on the results of this study, UV-B irradiation is suggested to damage both the donor and acceptor sides of Photosystem II. The damage of the water-oxidizing complex does not affect a specific S-state transition. Instead, charge stabilization is enhanced on an accessory donor. The acceptor-side modifications decrease the affinity of DCMU binding. This effect is assumed to reflect a structural change in the QB/DCMU binding site. The preferential loss of dark stable QB - may be related to the same structural change or could be caused by the specific destruction of reduced quinones by the UV-B light.Abbreviations Chl chlorophyll - DCMU 3-(3,4,-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea - PS II Photosystem II - QA first quinone electron acceptor of PS II - QB second quinone electron acceptor of PS II - Tyr-D accessory electron donor of PS II - S0-S4 charge storage states of the water-oxidizing complex  相似文献

BackgroundGlioblastoma is an incurable neoplasm. Its hypoxia mechanism associated with cancer stem cells (CSCs) demonstrates hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) expression regulation, which is directly related to tumor malignancy. The aim of this study was to identify a possible tumor malignancy signature associated with regulation of HIF-1α by microRNAs miR-21 and miR-326 in the subpopulation of tumor stem cells which were irradiated by ion in primary culture of patients diagnosed with glioblastoma.Materials and methodsWe used cellular cultures from surgery biopsies of ten patients with glioblastoma. MicroRNA expressions were analyzed through real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR ) and correlated with mortality and recurrence. The ROC curve displayed the cutoff point of the respective microRNAs in relation to the clinical prognosis, separating them by group.ResultsThe miR-21 addressed high level of expression in the irradiated neurosphere group (p = 0.0028). However, miR-21 was not associated with recurrence and mortality. miR-326 can be associated with tumoral recurrence (p = 0.032) in both groups; every 0.5 units of miR-326 increased the chances of recurrence by 1,024 (2.4%).ConclusionThe high expression of miR-21 in the irradiated group suggests its role in the regulation of HIF-1α and in the radioresistant neurospheres. miR-326 increased the chances of recurrence in both groups, also demonstrating that positive regulation from miR-326 does not depend on ionizing radiation treatment.  相似文献

Ce3+‐doped calcium aluminosilicate phosphor was prepared by a combustion‐assisted method at an initiating temperature of 600°C. Structural characterization was carried out using X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The absorption spectra of Ca2Al2SiO7:Ce3+ showed an absorption edge at 230 nm. The optical characterization of Ca2Al2SiO7:Ce3+ phosphor was investigated in a fracto‐mechanoluminescence (FML) and thermoluminescence (TL) study. The peak of ML intensity increased as the height of impact of the moving piston increased. The TL intensity of Ca2Al2SiO7:Ce3+ was recorded for different exposure times of UV and γ‐irradiation and it was observed that TL intensity was maximum for a UV irradiation time of 30 min and for a γ‐dose of 1180 Gy. The TL intensity had three peaks for UV irradiation at temperatures 82°C, 125°C and 203°C. Also the TL intensity had a single peak at 152°C for γ‐irradiation. The TL and ML emission spectra of Ca2Al2SiO7:Ce3+ phosphor showed maximum emission at 400 nm. The possible mechanisms involved in the TL and ML processes of the Ca2Al2SiO7:Ce3+ phosphor are also explained. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Debilitating effects of bone marrow from ionizing radiation exposure has been well established for hematopoietic stem cells; however, radiation toxicity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has been controversial. The present study addressed if ionizing radiation exposure differently affected bone marrow MSCs with various differentiation commitments. Mouse bone‐marrow‐derived MSCs, D1 cells of early passages (≤5 passages; p5) maintained the complete characteristics of multipotent MSCs, whereas, after ≥45 passages (p45) the differentiation capability of D1 cells became partially restricted. Both p5 and p45 D1 cells were subjected to single dose irradiation by radioactive isotope 137Cs. Radiation treatment impaired cell renewal and differentiation activities of p5 D1 cells; however, p45 D1 cells were less affected. Radiation treatment upregulated both pro‐ and anti‐apoptotic genes of p5 D1 cells in a dose‐dependent manner, potentially resulting in the various apoptosis thresholds. It was found that constitutive as well as radiation‐induced phosphorylation levels of histone H2AX was significantly higher in p45 D1 cells than in p5 D1 cells. The increased repair activity of DNA double‐strand breakage may play a role for p45 D1 cells to exhibit the relative radioresistance. In conclusion, the radiation toxicity predominantly affecting multipotent MSCs may occur at unexpectedly low doses, which may, in part, contribute to the catabolic pathology of bone tissue. J. Cell. A series of red‐emitting phosphors Ca0.6Sr0.4–1.5x‐0.5yMo0.4 W0.6O4:EuxLiy (x = 0.02–0.12, y = 0–0.12) has been synthesized by a sol‐gel method. The effects of calcining temperature, concentrations of Li+ and Eu3+, and compensation ions on the luminescent properties were investigated. X‐ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopic results showed that as‐prepared phosphors were of single phase with several microns. The Li+ compensated compositions showed remarkably intense red emission at 619 nm. The emission intensity of the series reached maximum for compositions at x = 0.08 and y = 0.08 when the calcining temperature was 900 °C. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We assessed a new approach for evaluating the glioma risk among users of mobile phones to focus on the part of the brain most heavily exposed to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields from mobile phones. The tumor midpoint was defined from radiological imaging. A case–case analysis with 99 gliomas was performed using logistic regression. The exposed cases were those with the tumor mid‐point within 4.6 cm from the line between the mouth and the external meatus of the ear, representing the most likely location of the mobile phone (the source of exposure). Alternative analyses based on various indicators of mobile phone use as the outcome were also carried out. The majority of cases were regular mobile phone users. A slightly higher proportion of gliomas among mobile phone users than non‐users occurred within 4.6 cm from the presumed location of the mobile phone (28% vs. 14%). Modestly elevated odds ratios were observed for several indicators of mobile phone use, but without an exposure gradient. The highest odds ratios were found for contralateral and short‐term use. Our results, though limited by the small sample size, demonstrate that detailed information on tumor location allows evaluation of the risk related to the most heavily exposed part of the brain, representing direct evaluation of the possible local carcinogenic effects of the radiofrequency fields. However, field strength varies between users and over time also within a given anatomic site, due to the output power of the phone. Collaborative analysis of a larger sample is planned. Thermoluminescence characteristics of Dy3+‐activated Mg5(BO3)3F low Zeff phosphor are described. The Mg5(BO3)3F phosphor doped with Dy3+ as activator was prepared by the modified solid‐state reaction. Formation of the compound was confirmed by use of X‐ray powder diffraction. The X‐ray powder diffraction pattern of the as‐prepared compound shows a good match with the available JCPDS data. The γ‐irradiated Mg5(BO3)3F:Dy3+ phosphor shows a simple glow curve peaking at about 148°C indicating that only one type of trap is being activated within a particular temperature range. The kinetic parameters, including activation energy and frequency factor were determined using Chen's method. The activation energy and frequency factors were 0.75 eV and 4.508 × 109/s respectively. The Zeff of Mg5(BO3)3F:Dy3+ phosphor was 9.84. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Background

Application of less toxic normoxic polymer gel of N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) for radiation therapy has been studied in recent years.

Aim

In the current study the optical and NMR properties of NIPAM were studied for radiation therapy dosimetry application.

Materials and methods

NIPAM normoxic polymer gel was prepared and irradiated by 9 MV photon beam of a medical linac. The optical absorbance was measured using a conventional laboratory spectrophotometer in different wavelengths ranging from 390 to 860 nm. R2 measurements of NIPAM gels were performed using a 1.5 T scanner and R2–dose curve was obtained.

Results

Our results showed R2 dose sensitivity of 0.193 ± 0.01 s−1 Gy−1 for NIPAM gel. Both R2 and optical absorbance showed a linear relationship with dose from 1.5 to 11 Gy for NIPAM gel dosimeter. Moreover, absorbance–dose response varied considerably with light wavelength and highest sensitivity was seen for the blue part of the spectrum.

Conclusion

Our results showed that both optical and NMR approaches have acceptable sensitivity and accuracy for dose determination with NIPAM gel. However, for optical reading of the gel, utilization of an optimum optical wavelength is recommended.  相似文献

The photoluminescence (PL) and thermoluminescence (TL) displayed by Dy‐activated strontium haloborate (Sr2B5O9Cl) were studied. A modified solid‐state reaction was employed for the preparation of the phosphor. Photoluminescence spectra showed blue (484 nm) and yellow (575 nm) emissions due to incorporation of Dy3+ into host matrix. The Dy‐doped (0.5 mol%) Sr2B5O9Cl was studied after exposure to γ‐irradiation and revealed a prominent glow curve at 261°C with a small hump around 143°C indicating that two types of traps were generated. The glow peak at the higher temperature side (261°C) was more stable than the lower temperature glow peak. The TL intensity was 1.17 times less than that of the standard CaSO4:Dy thermoluminescence dosimetry (TLD) phosphor, the phosphor showed a linear dose–response curve for different γ‐ray irradiation doses (0.002–1.25 Gy) and fading of 5–7% was observed for higher temperature peaks upon storage. Trapping parameters and their estimated error values have been calculated by Chen's peak shape method and by the initial rise method. Values of activation energies estimated by both these techniques were comparable. The slight difference in activation energy values calculated by Chen's peak shape method indicated the formation of two kinds of traps Furthermore, slight differences in frequency values are due to various escaping and retrapping probabilities. A commercial silicon PIN-photodiode was tested and characterized as ionizing radiation detector for radiological applications. A current-to-voltage amplification stage was designed and realized in order to acquire the photodiode signal in current mode. The system was tested with clinical beams routinely used for radiography and mammography. A Monte Carlo simulation of the detector was performed with the MCNPX code in order to model and fully understand, in particular, the impact of the sensor casing on the low energy response of the device. A reproducible output linearity was found over the dose range 0.03–4.5 mGy of great clinical relevance. The system sensitivity was found to be stable at 0.2 V s Gy−1 for effective X-ray energies between 17 and 40 keV. The batch-to-batch reproducibility of the diodes was also experimentally investigated for two different batches of 14 diodes each. An inter-comparison with dosimeters routinely used in medical physics (i.e. Barracuda MPD RTI) showed a linear correlation between PIN-photodiode readout and absorbed dose measured with Barracuda, in the range of doses received by mammography and radiology patients.  相似文献

Lithium borosilicate glass composite (SiO2–Li2CO3–H3BO3) doped with various concentrations of Sm2O3 (0–0.7 mole %) was prepared using the melt quenching method. The investigated thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics of the prepared system revealed that the highest TL response was obtained for this glass composite at 0.05 mol% Sm2O3. In this study, the 0.05 mol% Sm2O3‐doped lithium borosilicate glass composite was subjected to detailed dosimetric investigation in terms of its annealing condition, dose–response, and minimum detectable dose. The reproducibility of the response, thermal characteristics, and optical fading were also studied. The obtained results showed that the prepared glass composite had a linear dose–response over the wide gamma dose range 2Gy to 2 kGy, as well as reasonable thermal fading and excellent reproducibility. These attributes render the composite under investigation promising for utilization in radiation detection.  相似文献

Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+ and Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+,Dy3+ long afterglow phosphors were synthesized under a weak reducing atmosphere by the traditional high temperature solid state reaction method. The synthesized phosphors were characterized by powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX), and photo‐, thermo‐ and mechanoluminescence spectroscopic techniques. The phase structure of the sintered phosphor was an akermanite type structure, which belongs to tetragonal crystallography. The thermoluminescence properties of these phosphors were investigated and compared. Under ultraviolet light excitation, the emission spectra of both prepared phosphors were composed of a broad emission band peaking at 470 nm. When the Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+ phosphor was co‐doped with Dy3+, the photoluminescence (PL), afterglow and mechanoluminescence (ML) intensity were strongly enhanced. The decay graph indicated that both the sintered phosphors contained fast decay and slow decay processes. The ML intensities of Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+ and Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+,Dy3+ phosphors were increased proportionally with increasing impact velocity, a finding that suggests that these phosphors could be used as sensors to detect the stress of an object.
