The aim of this study was to evaluate flower and leaf methanol extracts of Artemisia alba Turra for their total phenolic and flavonoid contents, antioxidant capacity and to investigate their phenolic composition. The flower extract was richer in total phenolics and flavonoids and possessed higher antioxidant activity through DPPH and ABTS assays. The UHPLC‐PDA‐MS analysis of the flower and leaf methanol extracts revealed similar phenolic profile and allowed identification of 31 phenolic compounds (flavonoids, coumarins, and phenolic acids) by comparison with the respective reference compounds or tentatively characterized by their chromatographic behavior, UV patterns, and MS fragmentations. The presence of hispidulin, jaceosidin, desmethoxycentaureidin, and dicaffeoyl esters of quinic acid in A. alba is reported herein for the first time. The distribution of flavonoids in A. alba from different origins was discussed from chemotaxonomic point of view. 相似文献

Gynura bicolor and G. divaricata are not only known to be nutritive as cultured vegetables, but also beneficial as folk medicines in East Asia. As demonstrated by the current phytochemical knowledge, the genus Gynura is a promising source of phenolics with multiple medicinal activities. To expand this phytochemical knowledge, the phenolic secondary metabolites of G. bicolor and G. divaricata were studied. From the aerial parts of these two species, collected in five different Chinese locations, two fractions of phenolic compounds with different polarity were obtained by extraction and chromatographic separation. Using UPLC/MS/MS analysis, a total of 53 phenolics were either identified by comparison with respective reference compounds or tentatively characterized by their chromatographic behavior, UV‐absorption patterns, and MS fragmentations. Some naturally existing positional isomers of O‐caffeoylquinic acid, O‐p‐coumaroylquinic acid, O‐feruloylquinic acid, and dicaffeoylquinic acid as well as their methyl esters were qualitatively characterized by their specific fragmentation patterns in targeted MS/MS. In addition, the aerial parts of the two Gynura species contained kaempferol, quercetin oligoglycosides, and a variety of derivatives of benzoic acid, hydroxycinnamic acid, and caffeic acid. Furthermore, the distribution of phenolic compounds in the two species from different Chinese origins was discussed. Finally, an investigation of the total phenolic content and in vitro antioxidant activity of the various phenolic fractions was completed, to evaluate the potential of the extracts of these species for medicinal development. The free‐radical‐scavenging activities of the extracts derived from plants originating from Nanjing were proven to be higher than those of the other extracts, which correlated well with their total phenolic content. 相似文献

Iris adriatica Trinajsti? ex Miti? (Iridaceae L.) is a strictly endemic taxon from Croatia. It is a rhizomatous dwarf plant from the I. pumila complex with a distribution area limited to the Croatian part of the Mediterranean area, mainly central Dalmatia. The genus Iris is known for its richness in isoflavonoids which also play a significant role in chemotaxonomy and biological activity. Hence, in the current study, different plant batches of I. adriatica collected in early spring of 2016 were analysed for their phytochemical profiles and qualitatively compared. UHPLC-PDA-ESI-MS analyses of methanolic rhizome extracts were performed. Altogether, 36 compounds, representing isoflavonoids (including 6,7-methylendioxy derivatives), benzophenones and xanthones were found as aglycones or in glycosidically bound form to be the main constituent groups of I. adriatica rhizomes. Qualitative results were identical between different batches of plant material from collection sites in central Dalmatia, they differed only in quantity. For some phenolic compounds of I. adriatica, chemotaxonomic relevance was detected. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of ChromatiNet on vegetative growth, total antioxidant capacity, phenolic and essential oils (EOs) composition of Lippia gracilis. The plants were cultivated under full sunlight, black, blue and red ChromatiNet. The flavonoid content and antioxidant capacity were quantified spectrophotometrically. The C-glycosylflavone isomers (orientin and isoorientin) were isolated and identified by conventional spectroscopic techniques and measured using high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection. The EO was analysed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Environment influenced growth, total antioxidant capacity and phytochemical levels. Shoot dry weight, thymol, carvacrol and (E)-caryophyllene were favoured under red and black ChromatiNet. Root growth, EOs, caryophyllene oxide, p-cymene, flavonoids, orientin and isoorientin were favoured in sunlight. Growth and accumulation of EOs, flavonoids and photosynthetic pigments increased under blue ChromatiNet. Therefore, Lippia gracilis plants have plasticity related to the spectral quality of light and it cultivate depends of the phytochemicals of interest. 相似文献

Abstract Cytological examination during somatic embryogenesis in Iris pumila L. and Iris setosa Pall, were performed using light and electron microscopy. The first sign of the cellular differentiation in the initial embryogenic callus (EC; stage 1) of both Iris species was the formation of short and elongated cell types. After the onset of embryogenesis, short cells divided producing a mass of densely packed meristematic cells, closely connected with numerous plasmodesmata. Further differentiation into globular embryos (GE) led to a loss of plasmodesmata and cell separation. In vacuolated elongated cells, cytoplasm was located near the wall and around the nucleus. In both cell types amyloplasts and small mitochondria with poorly developed crystae were abundant. Cell of GE (stage 2) contained an increased number of mitochondria and plastids comparing to those from stage 1, indicating further differentiation. Thylakoids and starch grains were observed within the plastids, while the number of cristae within the mitochondria was increasing. In cells of embryos with coleoptile (ECl) (stage 3), plastids differentiated into chloroplasts with thylakoids. In all stages of cell differentiation, short and long cisternae of endoplasmic reticulum with ribosomes were seen. Activity of dictyosomes was increased in stages 1 and 2, then reduced in stage 3. Ultrastructure of EC cells was identical to that of proembryogenic cells, i.e. of early GE. Ultrastructural appearance of GE cells was identical in both Iris species, but evident, and increasing, differences in mitochondria and plastids were observed between GE and ECl embryos. The presence of bi-, three- and eight- cell proembryos demonstrates that they originate from a single cell in both Iris species. 相似文献

Diverse endophytic fungi exist within plant aerial tissues, with a global estimate of up to a million undescribed species.
These endophytes constitute a rich bio-resource for exploration to discover new natural products. Here we investigate fungal
endophytes associated with a medicinal plant, Nerium oleander L. (Apocynaceae). A total of 42 endophytic fungal strains were isolated from the host plant. Total antioxidant capacity,
xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity, antimicrobial activity, and total phenolic content (TPC) were evaluated for 16 representative
fungal cultures grown in improved Czapek’s broth and for the host plant. The total antioxidant capacities and phenolic contents
of the fungal cultures ranged from 9.59 to 150.79 μmol trolox/100 mL culture, and from 0.52 to 13.95 mg gallic acid/100 mL
culture, respectively. The fungal culture of an endophytic strain Chaetomium sp. showed the strongest antioxidant capacity, contained the highest level of phenolics, and to some extent inhibited xanthine
oxidase activity with an IC50 value of 109.8 μg/mL. A significant positive correlation was found between antioxidant capacity and TPC in the tested samples.
Most of the endophytic fungal cultures tested have a wide range of antimicrobial activities, which were not very strong, but
much better than those of the host plant. The major bioactive constituents of the fungal cultures were investigated using
LC-ESI-MS and GC-MS, and preliminary identification detected phenolics (e.g. phenolic acids and their derivatives, flavonoids)
and volatile and aliphatic compounds. This study shows that the endophytic fungi isolated from N. oleander can be a potential antioxidant resource. 相似文献

Introduction – Polyphenolic phytochemicals in traditionally used medicinal plants act as powerful antioxidants, which aroused an increasing interest in their application in functional food development. Objective – The effect of extraction time (5 and 15 min) and hydrolysis on the qualitative and quantitative content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity of six traditionally used medicinal plants (Melissa officinalis L., Thymus serpyllum L., Lavandula officinalis Miller, Rubus fruticosus L., Urtica dioica L., and Olea europea L.) were investigated. Methodology – The content of total phenols, flavonoids, flavan‐3‐ols and tannins was determined using UV/Vis spectrophotometric methods, while individual phenolic acids, flavones and flavonols were separated and detected using HPLC analysis. Also, to obtain relevant data on the antioxidant capacity, two different assays, (2,2‐azino‐bis(3‐ethylbenzthiazoline‐6‐sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging and ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) assays were used. Results – The extraction efficiency of phenolics, as well as the antioxidant capacity of plant extracts, was affected by both prolonged extraction and hydrolysis. The overall highest content of phenolic compounds was determined in hydrolyzed extract of blackberry leaves (2160 mg GAE/L), followed by the non‐hydrolyzed extract of lemon balm obtained after 15 min of extraction (929.33 mg GAE/L). The above extracts also exhibited the highest antioxidant capacity, while extracts of olive leaves were characterized with the lowest content of phenolic compounds, as well as the lowest antioxidant capacity. The highest content of rosmarinic acid, as the most abundant phenolic compound, was determined in non‐hydrolyzed extract of lemon balm, obtained after 15 min of extraction. Although the hydrolysis provided the highest content of polyphenolic compounds, longer extraction time (15 min) was more efficient to extract these bioactives than shorter extraction duration (5 min). Conclusion – The distribution of detected phenolic compounds showed a wide variability with regard to their botanical origin. Examined medicinal plants showed to be a valuable supplement to a daily intake of bioactive compounds. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

The present article reports results of analysis of carboxylic acids in leaves of Iris species from Ukraine using a gas chromatography (GC) method with mass spectrometric (MS) detection (GC/MS). Carboxylic acids play significant roles in contemporary society as evidenced by multiple applications in fields of medicine, agriculture, pharmacy, food, and other industries. Study of natural plant products as a source of organic acids is of particular interest. Carboxylic acid composition of leaves of Iris hungarica Waldst. & Kit., Iris germanica L., Iris pallida Lam., and Iris variegate L. was studied for the first time applying GC/MS method. The mass spectrums of compounds were matched with NIST and WILEY Libraries. The GC/MS analysis revealed the presence of 26 common acids in the plant raw materials studied. The short-chain carboxylic acids, such as citric (1337.5–12364.4 mg/kg), malic (50.8–4558.0 mg/kg) and oxalic (1199.0–3435.2 mg/kg) acids were contained in significantly high quantity in all samples. Ferulic, p-coumaric and vanillic acids were the most abundant among phenolic acids. α-Linolenic acid was dominant in the leaves of I. germanica (869.5 mg/kg), I. pallida (753.3 mg/kg), and I. variegate (250.3 mg/kg) among polyunsaturated fatty acids, however, linoleic acid prevailed in the plant raw material of I. hungarica (1150.7 mg/kg). Since the leaves of Iris species studied contain carboxylic acids with diverse pharmacological activity, extracts of these raw materials are perspective for development food supplements and medicines. 相似文献

Introduction
Hieracium s. str. represents one of the largest and most complex genera of flowering plants. As molecular genetics seems unlikely to disentangle intricate relationships within this reticulate species complex, analysis of flavonoids and phenolic acids, known as good chemosystematic markers, promise to be more reliable. Data about pharmacological activity of Hieracium species are scarce. Objective
Evaluation of the chemosystematic significance of flavonoids and phenolic acids of methanol extracts of aerial flowering parts of 28 Hieracium species from the Balkans. Additionally, investigation of antioxidant potentials of the extracts. Methods
Comparative qualitative and quantitative analysis of flavonoids and phenolic acids was performed by LC–MS. Multivariate statistical data analysis included non‐metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS), unweighted pair‐group arithmetic averages (UPGMA) and principal component analysis (PCA). Antioxidant activity was evaluated using three colorimetric tests. Results
Dominant phenolics in almost all species were luteolin type flavonoids, followed by phenolic acids. Although the investigated Hieracium species share many compounds, the current classification of the genus was supported by nMDS and UPGMA analyses with a good resolution to the group level. Hieracium naegelianum was clearly separated from the other investigated species. Spatial and ecological distances of the samples were likely to influence unexpected differentiation of some groups within H. sect. Pannosa. The vast majority of dominant compounds significantly contributed to differences between taxa. The antioxidant potential of the extracts was satisfactory and in accordance with their phenolics composition. Conclusions
Comparative LC–MS analysis demonstrated that flavonoids and phenolic acids are good indicators of chemosystematic relationships within Hieracium, particularly between non‐hybrid species and groups from the same location. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献10.
The present study is focused on the phytochemical analysis of the aerial parts of Symphytum anatolicum and Cynoglottis barrelieri (Boraginaceae). Their methanol extracts were subjected to qualitative LC-MS analysis, sixteen secondary metabolites have been identified from S. anatolicum and eighteen from C. barrelieri, respectively. Sixteen among all are phenolic derivatives (phenolic acids and flavonoids) and six belong to pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) in the form of bases and/or N-oxides (PANOs). The observed chemical profiles are discussed chemotaxonomically as both species share the same tribe Boragineae. Caffeic acid and its derivatives together with quercetin- and kaempferol-glucosides were among the common metabolites, as they were identified in both studied plant species. Furthermore, their total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined. Antioxidant capacity was evaluated by different chemical assays, together with their in vitro enzyme inhibitory properties towards cholinesterases (AChE and BChE), α-amylase and α-glucosidase. The results showed that C. barrelieri exhibited strong antioxidant activity, while S. anatolicum displayed good enzyme inhibitory effects contributing to a very interesting profile for further applications. 相似文献

Abstract In order to preserve ex situ rare or vulnerable species, it is necessary to characterise their reproductive mechanisms, and to locate the origin of the interference with their development in their natural habitat. Iris revoluta Colas. is a very rare endemic species of the Salento peninsula (Italy), showing scarce sexual reproduction, but good vegetative propagation through rhizomes, as many other Iris species of natural hybrid origin. For many years this Iris has been cultivated in the Botanical Garden of the Di.S.Te.B.A., University of Lecce, where a detailed study has been initiated to investigate the phenomena that may limit its sexual reproduction. 相似文献

Plant galls are widely distributed, and their extracts are used in traditional medicine worldwide. Traditional remedies containing extracts of plant galls in China, India and some African countries have effective in the treatment of various pathologies. To open a new promising procedure for screening bioactive compounds from plant galls, standardized plant materials were generated in vitro and used for phytochemical and biological investigations. Methanol aqueous chloroform and hexane extracts of Nicotiana tabacum leafy galls induced by Rhodococcus fascians were used to evaluate phenolic and flavonoid contents, and to investigate antioxidant activity by 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and ferric reducing antioxidant/power assays and anti‐inflammatory activity by the lipoxygenase inhibition assay. Infection by R. fascians modifies significantly the phytochemical profile of N. tabacum as well as its biological properties. The total polyphenolic content was increased (120–307%), and that of flavonoids was reduced (20–42.5%). Consequently, antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory activities of non‐infected tobacco extracts are significantly modified compared to plants treated with leafy gall extracts. This shows that infection by R. fascians favoured the production of anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant compounds in N. tabacum. The study indicates the benefit of plant galls used in traditional medicines against various pathologies. 相似文献

The numerous studies indicate leaves of plants are a rich source of bioactive compounds that can be a valuable source of compounds used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Aim of this study was to investigate the chemical composition and the antioxidant property of Crocus speciosus leaves. Primary phytochemical screening of C. speciosus leaves revealed the presence of some following compound categories such as phenolic compounds, aminoacids, saponins, proteins, tannins, triterpenoids, glycosides, polysaccharides. The total flavonoids and phenolic compounds content were determined spectrophotometrically and by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-MS. Antiradical activity was determined by ABTS radical-cation scavenging method, spectrophotometrically. The total amount of flavonoids in C. speciosus leaves was 1.07 ± 0.02 mg RE/g (p < 0.05), the total amount of phenolic compounds was 0.41 ± 0.01 mg GAE/g (p < 0.05). By HPLC-DAD-MS analysis the presence of the mangiferin, chlorogenic acid, isoorientin, kaempferol, hyperoside, and isoquercitin was established for the first time in Crocus leaves. The antiradical activity of C. speciosus leaves extracts was 150.08 ± 4.5 μmol/g (p < 0.05) and its was mainly attributed to phenolic compounds content. The high amounts of flavonoids and antiradical activity in C. speciosus leaves suggests promising phytochemical and pharmacological study of this Crocus species. 相似文献

Investigations have been made to study the production of phenolic compounds (total phenolics, flavonoids and phenylpropanoids) and total antioxidant capacity in 27 Macedonian traditional medicinal plants to improve its potential as a source of natural antioxidants. Antioxidant potential of plant extracts was analyzed by five different assays: cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC), phosphomolybdenum method (PM), reducing power (RP), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH·) and 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS·+) radical scavenging activity. Origanum vulgare extract consistently exhibited the highest content of phenolic compounds and the strongest antioxidant capacity based on the tests performed, and can be proposed as a promising source of natural antioxidants. Melissa officinalis and Salvia ringens were also identified as valuable sources of antioxidant compounds. A positive linear correlation between antioxidant activity and total phenolics, flavonoids and phenylpropanoids indicates that these compounds are likely to be the main antioxidants contributing to the observed activities of evaluated plants. These findings suggest that the medicinal plants studied in this paper are good sources of bioactive compounds for the food and pharmaceutical industries. 相似文献

This work aims to determine the phytochemical characterization of the
pericarp of Chamaedorea radicalis Mart. fruit as a non-timber product with
potential to obtain phytochemicals with potential applications in the industry.
Fruit from C. radicalis were grouped in four ripening stages named as S1, S2,
S3 and S4, according to maturity; S1 the most unripe stage and S4 the completely
ripe stage. Determinations of total phenolic compounds, free radical scavenging
activities and total flavonoid contents using spectrophotometric methods were
done. Also, the tentative identification of phytochemicals during fruit ripening
was done using UPLC-MS-MS. Total phenolic compound (TPC) content ranged
from 7.24 to 12.53 mg gallic acid equivalents per gram of fresh weight (mg GAE/
g FW). Total flavonoids (TF) contents ranged from 0.163 to 0.23 mg of quercetin
equivalents per g FW (mg QE/g FW). Free radical scavenging activity against
DPPH and ABTS radicals varied from 40.80 to 53.68 and from 22.29 to
37.76 mmol Trolox equivalents g FW (mmol TE/g FW), respectively. Antioxidant assay in vitro by FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) method showed
that S3 was the highest level with antioxidant power while S4 was the lowest
with Red ripeness stage showed the lowest contents for all determinations. Mass
spectrometry allowed detection of 26 compounds, including phenolics, alkaloids
and saponins. Afzelin, Kaempferol 3-neohesperidoside and the four saponins
identified were present in all ripeness stages. Preliminary phytochemical identi-
fication and the spectrophotometric determinations showed that the pericarp of
C. radicalis presented antioxidants and compounds related to alkaloids, phenolics and saponins. The presence and abundance of each phytochemical regarding
each ripeness stage should be considered. 相似文献

Abstract To test the hypothesis that higher antioxidant potential of hemiparasitic plants is due to sequestration of phenolic compounds from the host plants, samples of Dendrophthoe falcata, a hemiparasite collected from different hosts, were investigated for total phenolics, total flavonoids and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity. The hosts significantly influenced the phenolic content of the hemiparasite. However, similar influence was not detected on radical scavenging activity and no correlation was found in the phenolics and free radical scavenging activities. Further investigation on transfer of constituents revealed that D. falcata sample obtained from a host, Mangifera indica, contained mangiferin, a C-glucosyl xanthone, and some unidentified flavonoids as confirmed by HPTLC flavonoid patterns. The data indicated that the hosts significantly affected total phenolics and total flavonoids in a hemiparasite. This is the first report of transfer of mangiferin from M. indica to a hemiparasite. The present report points towards the need of further investigations on the possible role of transferred phenolics either as mediators of host defense, host defense compounds utilized as cues of identification of the host by the hemiparasite or compounds taken up by the parasites to support their defense against rejection by the hosts. 相似文献

Taraxacum kok‐saghyz (TKS) is a dandelion species native to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and north‐west China, considered as a promising alternative source of natural rubber from its roots. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible exploitation of TKS leaves, a rubber byproduct, as a source of phenolic compounds with antioxidant properties for potential applications in forage, nutraceutical and pharmacological fields. Two accessions (TKS016, TKS018) grown under Mediterranean conditions of Sardinia were evaluated at vegetative and flowering stages. The leaves of TKS018 had the highest antioxidant capacity (19.6 mmol trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity 100 g?1), total phenolic (106.4 g gallic acid equivalent kg?1), tannic phenolics (58.5 g gallic acid equivalent kg?1) and total flavonoid contents (22.9 g catechin equivalent kg?1). At both phenological stages, TKS016 showed significantly lower values than TKS018 in 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), total phenolic and tannic phenolics. Six individual molecules were identified, namely chlorogenic, cryptochlorogenic, caffeic, sinapic, chicoric and 3,4‐dimethoxycinnamic acids. Chicoric (8.53–10.68 g kg?1 DW) and chlorogenic acids (4.18–7.04 g kg?1 DW) were the most abundant. TKS leaves represent a valuable source of chicoric acid with potential application as antioxidant to be used as herbal medicine and nutrition for production of healthy food/feed. 相似文献

This study was executed to determine phytochemical content i.e. total carotenoids, phenolics and flavonoids, and antioxidant ability expressed in the form of FRAP, CUPRAC and ABTS activity among different coloured tropical carrots (orange, red, yellow, rainbow and black carrot) developed at ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Overall, within different colour group, the extent of variation for various phytochemical content and antioxidant potentiality is narrow i.e. ranged from 1.04- to 3.21-fold; but at the same time, the genotypic variability across genotypes is too wide which varied 20.90- to 57.92-fold for phytochemical and antioxidants is an indication of broad genetic base of carrot germplasm. Among all the carrots, black carrot had an exceptionally high content of total phenolics and flavonoids, and thereby led to the highest antioxidant ability in the terms of FRAP, CUPRAC and ABTS activity expressing about 76–83% relative potentiality followed by rainbow carrot, and least in orange, red and yellow carrot (black carrot?>?rainbow carrot?>?red carrot?≈?orange carrot?≈?yellow carrot). The content of phenolics and flavonoids were highly correlated with antioxidant activity (0.955** to 0.992**). However, the most cultivated and consumed carrots, orange and red one, possessed higher amount of carotenoids. The content of carotenoids negatively correlated with total phenolics, flavonoids and antioxidants activity (??0.612** to ??0.627**). Broad genetic base and selection based on total phenolics content could be pivotal in the future breeding to harness the genetic wealth of carrot efficiently. 相似文献
