New labdane diterpenoids from Sideritis chamaedryfolia

From the aerial parts of Sideritis chamaedryfolia six previously known ent-kaurene diterpenoids have been isolated. In addition, seven new labdane derivatives have also been obtained from the same source. The structures of these new natural diterpenoids have been established by chemical spectroscopic means and by correlation with known products.     

Neo-clerodane diterpenoids from teucrium lepicephalum and teucrium buxifolium

Three new neo-clerodane diterpenoids, teulepicin, 19-acetylteulepicin and teulepicephin, have been isolated, together with the previously known flavone cirsiliol from the aerial parts of Teucrium lepicephalum. The structures of the diterpenoids were established by chemical and spectroscopic means and by correlation with known substances. In addition, 19-acetylteulepicin and the already known neo-clerodane diterpenoid 19-acetylgnaphalin have been isolated from the species T. buxifolium.     

Grayanotoxin-XVIII and grayanoside B,a new a-nor-b-homo-ent-kaurene and its glucoside from Leucothoe grayana

From Leucothoe grayana a new grayanoid (diterpene) and its glucoside have been isolated. The structures of these new natural compounds have been established by chemical and spectroscopic means and by correlation with a known compound.     

New bibenzyls from Radula complanata

Two new bibenzyls have been isolated from Radula complanata and their structures have been elucidated by chemical and spectral evidence. In addition to the above two bibenzyls and four known bibenzyls, two new acidic bibenzyls have been isolated as their methyl esters.     

Sulphate esters of hydroxycinnamic acid—sugar derivatives from Adiantum capillus-veneris

Two new and two known sulphate esters of hydroxycinnamic acid—sugar derivatives have been isolated from the fronds of the fern Adiantum capillus-veneris. The new compounds have been shown to be 1-p-coumarylglucose 2-sulphate and 1-caffeylgalactose 6-sulphate by chemical and spectroscopic methods.     

Triterpenoids from Salvia pinnata

A new and four known triterpenoids have been isolated from the leaves of Salvia pinnata. The structures of these compounds have been established by spectral data and by some chemical reactions.     

A new type of germacranolide from Vernonia species

From several South African Vernonia species, a considerable number of sesquiterpene lactones has been isolated. Together with known compounds, seven members of a new type with an enol lactone ring have been found, their structures being elucidated by spectroscopic methods and some chemical transformations. Furthermore two new derivatives of costunolide are present in two species, and three new guaianolides have been found. From some species, however, no lactones could be isolated. Together with a new bisabolene derivative, a known eremophilone has been isolated, probably for the first time, from a member of the tribe Vernonieae.     

Diterpenes from the seed of Sciadopitys verticillata

Thirteen new labdane-type diterpenes have been isolated from the seeds of Sciadopitys verticillata together with six known ones, sciadin, sciadinone, dimethyl sciadinonate, lambertianic acid and its methyl ester and trans-communic acid. Their structures have been determined by chemical and spectral methods.     

Phenyl indane from acorus calamus

Besides three known compounds, two new compounds, namely Z-3-(2,4,5-trimethoxy phenyl)-2-propenal and a new phenyl indane have been isolated from the rhizomes of Acorus calamus. These compounds have been characterized from their spectral data and by synthesis.     

A neo-clerodane glucoside and neo-clerodane diterpenoids from Teucrium flavum subsp. Glaucum

From the aerial part of Teucrium flavum subsp. glaucum a new neo-clerodane diterpenoid, teuflavin, and a new 19-nor-neo-clerodane glucoside, teuflavoside, have been isolated, besides the previously known diterpene teuflin. The structures of teuflavin (19-acetoxy-4α,18:15,16-diepoxy-6β-hydroxy-3-keto-neo-cleroda-13(16),14-diene-20,ξ,12S-hemiacetal) and teuflavoside (18-acetoxy-15,16-epoxy-19-nor-neo-cleroda-4,13(16),14-trien-20,12S-olid-6β-yl-2′-O-acetyl-β-d-glucopyranoside) were established by chemical and spectroscopic means and by correlation with known compounds. In addition, the previously known flavone salvigenin has also been obtained from the same source.     

Counlarins,limonoids and an alkaloid from Clausena excavata

In addition to a known alkaloid, some limonoids and coumarins, the new coumarins excavatins A–M have been isolated from Clausena excavata. Their structures have been assigned by NMR and CD investigations.     

Chemical profile of Eriocaulon ligulatum (Vell.) L.B. Smith (Eriocaulaceae)

Two new and six known flavonoids and two known naphthopyranones have been isolated by chromatographic methods and spectrometrically identified in capitulae and scapes of Eriocaulon ligulatum (Vell.) L.B. Smith (Eriocaulaceae). The presence of naphthopyranones suggests approximation between Eriocaulon and Paepalanthus genus.     

New benzyldihydrochalcones from Uvaria chamae

Two new benzyldihydrochalcones have been identified in the roots of Uvaria chamae. They are accompanied by the known benzyl benzoate.     

Alkaloids of zephyranthes flava

From fresh, mature seeds of Zephyranthes flava, two new 2-oxyphenanthridinium alkaloids, zefbetaine and zeflabetaine along with 15 known free and glucosyloxy alkaloids have been isolated by gradient solvent extraction, chromatography and derivatization. The new compounds have been characterized by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses, chemical transformations and synthesis. Additionally, changes in the major alkaloids during development of the fruits have been analysed and their biological significance appraised.     

Ursane and oleanane triterpenoids from Salvia argentea

From the aerial parts of Salvia argentea four new ursene and two new oleanene triteipenoids have been isolated, together with the already known ursolic and oleanolic acids. The structures of the new substances were established by chemical and spectroscopic means.     

Diterpenoids from Sideritis foetens

From the aerial parts of Sideritis foetens, the previously known ent-13(16),14-labdadiene-6α,8α,18-triol (andalusol) has been isolated. In addition, two new natural andalusol monoacetates and the novel ent-6α-acetoxy-13(16),14-labdadiene-3β,8α-diol have also been obtained from the same source. The structures of these new diterpenoids have been established by chemical and spectroscopic means.     

Pinguisanin,pinguisanolide and β-pinguisenediol,three new pinguisane-type sesquiterpenes from Porella platyphylla

Three new pinguisane-type sesquiterpenes, pinguisanin, pinguisanolide and β-pinguisenediol, together with the previously known deoxopinguisone, have been isolated from a European liverwort, Porella platyphylla, and their structures have been established by the spectral evidence and some chemical transformations.     

Triterpenoids from Salvia deserta

From the aerial parts of Salvia deserta a new oleanane and two new lupane triterpenoids have been isolated, together with five already known ursane, oleanane and lupane derivatives. The structures of the new substances were established by spectroscopic means.

Diterpenoids from Salvia greggii

From the aerial part of Salvia greggii a previously known diterpenoid, isopimaric acid, and four new natural substances, 3β- and 14α-hydroxy-isopimaric acids, 14α,18-dihydroxy-7,15-isopimaradiene and 7,8β-dihydro-salviacoccin, have been isolated. The structures of these diterpenoids have been established by chemical and spectroscopic means and, in some cases, by comparison with previously known synthetic compounds.
