Morphological and functional peculiarities of long non-healing wound granulation tissue cells have been studied. The cell functional and proliferating activities were defined by electron-microscopic radioautography of 3H-uridine and 3H-thymidine incorporation. There are few vessels and the lumens are narrow. The walls of the most of the vessels are in the state of destruction. There are multiple macrophages with phagosomes filled with detritus. Fibroblasts have endoplasmic reticulum with widened small canals. Not multiple collagen fibers have broken periodic striation.  相似文献

Tumor blood vessels have multiple structural and functional abnormalities. They are unusually dynamic, and naturally undergo sprouting, proliferation, remodeling or regression. The vessels are irregularly shaped, tortuous, and lack the normal hierarchical arrangement of arterioles, capillaries and venules. Endothelial cells in tumors have abnormalities in gene expression, require growth factors for survival and have defective barrier function to plasma proteins. Pericytes on tumor vessels are also abnormal. Aberrant endothelial cells and pericytes generate defective basement membrane. Angiogenesis inhibitors can stop the growth of tumor vessels, prune existing vessels and normalize surviving vessels. Loss of endothelial cells is not necessarily accompanied by simultaneous loss of pericytes and surrounding basement membrane, which together can then provide a scaffold for regrowth of tumor vessels. Rapid vascular regrowth reflects the ongoing drive for angiogenesis and bizarre microenvironment in tumors that promote vascular abnormalities and thereby create therapeutic targets.  相似文献

This study assessed the short-term responses of humpback whales to whale-watching vessels during their southward migration along the south coast of New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The behavior of pods was recorded from commercial whale-watching vessels during tours and compared to pods observed in the absence of vessels from the shore in the same area. While some individuals showed obvious signs of horizontal avoidance, others approached vessels, initiating interactions. Calf pods were more sensitive to the presence of vessels than non-calf pods. Dive times and the overall percentage of time whales spent submerged were higher in the presence of vessels, but respiration intervals did not differ. Some surface behaviors occurred less often in the presence of vessels. Whales' responses differed according to whether vessels were operating in accordance with regulations or not. Whales were more likely to avoid a vessel moving within the permitted 100 m approach limit than vessels outside the limit. Whales showed some behavioral changes when vessels operated in accordance with whale-watching regulations, compared with whales in the absence of vessels. Pods that showed no obvious horizontal responses to vessels changed their diving and surface activity when compared with pods in the absence of vessels. Because the long-term impacts of effects of vessels are unknown, management of the humpback whale-watching industry should adopt a conservative approach. Improved knowledge of long-term impacts of multiple exposures to vessels is required to inform management of the effects of whale-watching.  相似文献

The paravascular bed of the cardiac vessels has been studied in 128 human fetuses at the age of 3-9 lunar months. Anatomical and histological techniques have been used, morphometrical analysis has been carried out. The paravascular bed of the cardiac wall vessels begins to form from the vascular epicardial network and from the paraneural vessels in 5-month-old fetuses. The paravasal longitudinal tracts are the first to form (the venous ones preceed the arterial). During the seventh month the nutritive vessels and the intramural networks of the main cardiac arteries and veins develop. The formation of the paraarterial bed is connected with the vascular diameter and with thickness of the arterial walls. Certain regularities in development of the venous paravascular bed are defined. By the beginning of the 8th month there are all main components of the paravascular bed of the cardiac vessels.  相似文献

The method of lymphorentgenography was used in order to study alterations in the lymph vessels of pelvic extremities of rabbits at different terms (from 1 week up to 6 months) after exposure to gravitation stresses of different directions, value and duration. After exposure to stresses of cranio-caudal direction the amount of vessels increased. They had weel pronounced sinuosity and clearly protruding valves. The diameter of the vessels was more than normal and was equal to 0,3-0,8 mm. Popliteal lymph nodes were also increased up to 12,6-6,7 mm. Within 6 months after stresses these changes retained. Stresses of caudal-cranial direction during all periods of observation (from 1 week up to 6 months) caused dilatation of vessels (0,3-0,6 mm), their sinuosity and enlargement of popliteal lymph nodes up to 10,5-6,2 mm. All these changes returned to normality within 6 months. Thus, most pronounced and resistant morphological changes of the lymphatic bed were caused by greatest endurable stresses of cranio-caudal direction.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of endothelial cytoplasmic filaments of small blood vessels from the human dermis has been described. The material consisted of biopsies from normal abdominal and thoracic skin and also from the skin of patients with urticaria pigmentosa. Most vessels were surrounded by multiple layers of basal lamina and corresponded to the small venules of the subpapillary dermis. The wall of many vessels was composed by endothelial cells with clear cytoplasm which was rich in filaments and by endothelial cells with a dense cytoplasm which was poor in filaments. Some vessels had walls composed of clear endothelial cells only. The filaments varied in diameter between 80-120 A. Curling, recoiling and whorling of cytoplasmic filaments were obvious in endothelial cells of contracted vessels. Bulging of endothelial nuclei and nuclear indentations were seen in the skin lesion of urticaria pigmentosa. The possibility that the clear endothelial cells which are rich in filaments may be more actively involved in contraction than the dense cells, is discussed.  相似文献

The lymphatic system is an open-ended network of vessels that run in parallel to the blood circulation system. These vessels are present in almost all of the tissues of the body to remove excess fluid. Similar to blood vessels, lymphatic vessels are found in branched arrangements. Due to the complexity of experiments on lymphatic networks and the difficulty to control the important functional parameters in these setups, computational modeling becomes an effective and essential means of understanding lymphatic network pumping dynamics. Here we aimed to determine the effect of pumping coordination in branched network structures on the regulation of lymph flow. Lymphatic vessel networks were created by building upon our previous lumped-parameter model of lymphangions in series. In our network model, each vessel is itself divided into multiple lymphangions by lymphatic valves that help maintain forward flow. Vessel junctions are modeled by equating the pressures and balancing mass flows. Our results demonstrated that a 1.5 s rest-period between contractions optimizes the flow rate. A time delay between contractions of lymphangions at the junction of branches provided an advantage over synchronous pumping, but additional time delays within individual vessels only increased the flow rate for adverse pressure differences greater than 10.5 cmH2O. Additionally, we quantified the pumping capability of the system under increasing levels of steady transmural pressure and outflow pressure for different network sizes. We observed that peak flow rates normally occurred under transmural pressures between 2 to 4 cmH2O (for multiple pressure differences and network sizes). Networks with 10 lymphangions per vessel had the highest pumping capability under a wide range of adverse pressure differences. For favorable pressure differences, pumping was more efficient with fewer lymphangions. These findings are valuable for translating experimental measurements from the single lymphangion level to tissue and organ scales.  相似文献

Degeneration of the knee joint and increase of anterior-posterior tibial displacement are resulting from total meniscectomy, especially in knees with anterior cruciate deficiency. Vascularisation of the meniscus was studied in 12 cadaver knees after latex injection of vessels. Vascularisation of the anterior and posterior horns was found to be much better than that of the body of meniscus. All vessels originated from the popliteal artery, but variably in importance, and formed the perimeniscal and subsynovial network. 11 peripheral meniscus tears (8 freshly injured, 3 ruptures older than 2 months) were repaired by refixation, followed by immobilisation for 6 weeks. Arthroscopy 3 months postoperatively showed complete healing of all tears. Clinical examinations--follow-up for 14 months--showed no signs of rerupture in any of the patients.  相似文献

The vasculature is a highly specialized organ that functions in a number of key physiological tasks including the transport of oxygen and nutrients to tissues. Formation of the vascular system is an essential and rate-limiting step in development and occurs primarily through two main mechanisms, vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. Both vasculogenesis, the de novo formation of vessels, and angiogenesis, the growth of new vessels from pre-existing vessels by sprouting, are complex processes that are mediated by the precise coordination of multiple cell types to form and remodel the vascular system. A host of signaling molecules and their interaction with specific receptors are central to activating and modulating vessel formation. This review article summarizes the current state of research involving signaling molecules that have been demonstrated to function in the regulation of vasculogenesis and angiogenesis, as well as molecules known to play a role in vessel maturation, hypoxia-driven angiogenesis and arterial-venous specification.  相似文献

利用扫描电子显微镜对毛良科类叶升麻(Artaea asiaticaHara)根和根状茎次生木质部中的管状分子进行观察.发观其管状分子类型丰富,主要有:管胞、管胞状导管、纤维导管和典型的导管分子,其中管胞、管胞状导管和纤维导管为在该类群中首次报道;在导管分子中.存在着梯状穿孔板、网状穿孔板、混合型穿孔板和单穿孔板.其中网状穿孔板和混合型穿孔板为在陔类群中的首次报道;对其导管分子上的侧壁穿孔板、多穿孔板和纹孔膜残余也进行了描述。根据类叶升麻次生木质部中多变的管状分子类型,认为以往积累的有关毛茛科植物管状分子类型及导管穿孔板类型是小个面的,因此以该性状为参考作出的有关某一个类群的原始性和进化性的推论也是不可靠的。同时探讨了不同类型管状分子作类叶升麻不同器官的分布与其生理功能和生态环境的关系,同时将该植物作为毛莨科的代表类群.与其它基邴类群植物导管分子进行了比较。  相似文献

Age changes in the vascular network density and transversal section of the vessels have been studied in the cerebral hemisphere cortex, corpus callosum, septum and nucleus caudatus of Wistar rats. Angiography has been performed by means of intracardiac injection of Indian ink, frontal colloidin slices of the brain 15 mcm thick have been prepared. Amount of vessels and section area of each vessel have been measured, using the automatic analysis. Each brain area studied has homogeneous vascularization density, however, they differ from each other by the amount of vessels. The vascular size in the areas does not differ. At the age of 2-20 months the average number of vessels in all the cerebral areas investigated does not change, while the vascular diameters demonstrate certain tendency to increase after 17 months of life.  相似文献

The strength of surgically anastomosed arteries of the rat sutured with Dexon thread is studied. The abdominal aortas and the carotid arteries were severed, sutured and then the wounds were closed and the animal healed. After a specific period of time up to 13 months, the vessels were taken out and tested in uniaxial loading condition. The stress-strain relationship of the vessels was measured, and then the vessels were pulled to failure. It was found that the strength of the anastomosis was the lowest in about 4 months. In the first day, the force at failure was about the same as that of the control. Then the strength decreased with time, until a minimum was reached in 4-6 months. The tensile force to failure was about 25% of the control for the carotid artery and 49% of the control for the abdominal aorta. The corresponding values of the tensile stress at failure were 17 and 11%, respectively. The different percentages of forces and stresses were caused by the thickening of the vessel wall in the neighborhood of the suture line in the healing process. After 4-6 months, the strength gained again. At 13 months, the strength of the anastomosis was about the same as that of the control. The stretch ratio at failure was approximately constant through all periods.  相似文献

166 placentae from multiple pregnancies (including three triplets and 17 monochorral) have been studied by injection corrosion technique, using cellulose acetate buterite in acetone, under continuous pressure within physiological limits. It has been shown that vascular anastomoses in twin placentae are usually multiple. The direct type is frequently found in monochorial twin placentae and is mostly arterial or venous in nature. The indirect type is observed more commonly in dichorial twin placentae and is mostly arteriovenous in nature. Both types are almost universally found in monochorial monoamniotic placentae. The presence of direct anastomotic channels has a highly significant association with the incidence of marginal vessels and an exaggeration of parameters of stress to an abnormal quantum--both singly and in combinations of three or more-, and is independent of the pattern of branching. In the ontogenetic time-sequence perspective, direct anastomoses, marginal vessels and parameters of stress in a twin placenta can be regarded as different phases of the sequelae of an altered vascular relationship caused by disturbances in the vicinity of the 12th week of gestation. It has been further shown that direct vascular anastomoses are a greater risk to the twins than indirect ones. The importance of early and timely recognition of such channels, by an examination of twin placentae for the presence of marginal vessels, is stressed.  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus was induced in male rats by streptozotocin injection. After 4, 8 and 12 months, retinal and coronary vessels were prepared and their structure was studied. An age-dependent increase in thickness of the capillary basement membrane of retinal vessels was found both in controls and diabetics. Furthermore, diabetics had an added 20%, disease-related thickening, present after 4 months and thereafter. No significant change in coronary arteries was found. After 8 and 12 months, plasma lipids, triiodothyronin and thyroxin were measured. In diabetics, triglycerides were higher at both time intervals, high density lipoprotein was slightly increased and thyroxin was reduced after 8 months, and triiodothyronin was reduced after both 8 and 12 months. Diabetes of 12 months duration appears insufficient to induce significant arteriosclerotic changes in rats.  相似文献

Angiogenesis is the process by which new blood vessels are formed from existing vessels. Mammalian populations harbor genetic variations that alter angiogenesis. Some of these changes result in Mendelian traits of variable penetrance, with telangiectasia being a common symptom. Other more subtle variations exist, with promoter variations in the VEGF gene being of particular interest. Genetic diversity in angiogenesis-regulating genes has been linked to increased susceptibility to multiple angiogenesis-dependent diseases in humans. These diseases include cancer, arthritis, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease, endometriosis, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, psoriasis, and sarcoidosis. Also, multiple disturbances in pregnancy including miscarriage, spontaneous preterm delivery, and severe pre-eclampsia have been linked to alterations in angiogenesis-regulating genes. Present efforts to dissect the complexity of the genetic diversity that regulates angiogenesis have used laboratory animals due to the availability of genome sequence for many species and the ability to perform high volume controlled breeding. Ongoing mapping studies have identified multiple loci that control angiogenic responsiveness in several mouse models. Genetic alterations responsible for discrete angiogenic alterations will then be studied in appropriate mouse disease models.  相似文献

The stability of blood vessel under lumen pressure load is essential to the maintenance of normal arterial function. Previous mechanical models showed that blood vessels may buckle into a half sine wave but arteries and veins in vivo often demonstrate tortuous paths with multiple waves. The objective of this study was to analyze the buckling of blood vessels under lumen pressure with surrounding tissue support. Blood vessels were modeled as elastic cylindrical vessels within an elastic substrate. Buckling equations were established to determine the critical pressure and the wavelength. These equations and simulation results demonstrated that blood vessels do take higher order mode shapes when buckling inside an elastic substrate while they take the basal mode shape without the substrate. The wave number increases i.e. blood vessels take a higher mode shape, as the stiffness of the substrate increases. These results suggest that mechanical buckling is a possible mechanism for the development of tortuous blood vessels. The current model provides a powerful tool for further studying the tortuosity of arteries and veins.  相似文献

Autotaxin (ATX) is a cancer-associated motogen that has multiple biological activities in vitro through the production of bioactive small lipids, lysophosphatidic acid (LPA). ATX and LPA are abundantly present in circulating blood. However, their roles in circulation remain to be solved. To uncover the physiological role of ATX we analyzed ATX knock-out mice. In ATX-null embryos, early blood vessels appeared to form properly, but they failed to develop into mature vessels. As a result ATX-null mice are lethal around embryonic day 10.5. The phenotype is much more severe than those of LPA receptor knock-out mice reported so far. In cultured allantois explants, neither ATX nor LPA was angiogenic. However, both of them helped to maintain preformed vessels by preventing disassembly of the vessels that was not antagonized by Ki16425, an LPA receptor antagonist. In serum from heterozygous mice both lysophospholipase D activity and LPA level were about half of those from wild-type mice, showing that ATX is responsible for the bulk of LPA production in serum. The present study revealed a previously unassigned role of ATX in stabilizing vessels through novel LPA signaling pathways.  相似文献

Abstract

The author has examined the cambial activity and the formation of the annual ring in Quercus aegilops from February 1954 to February 1955. Material was collected at Tricase (Lecce) the only Italian locality where this oriental species grows although it is doubtful whether it is spontaneous.

Cambial activity starts in the middle of April both in the main stem and in the branches following flowering and bud development. It goes on for about five months until the second half of August forming a complete growth ring. This annual ring shows the normal sequence of early wood with wide vessels formed during the second half of April and the whole of May, intermediate wood with medium and small size vessels, parenchima, and fibres formed in June-July, and late wood with few small size vessels, parenchima, and fibres formed from the end of July to middle August.

There is no reawakening of cambial activity in autumn even if the climatic conditions are favourable. Tylosis are very easily formed in the wood vessels and by this process the plant can withstand the drought of the Apulian summer.  相似文献
