An investigation on inheritance of qualitative traits in dolichos bean revealed biallelic monogenic control of photoperiod-induced sensitivity to flowering time and flower colour in F 2 and F 3 generations. While, growth habit and pod curvature are each controlled by two genes that exhibit classical complementary epistasis, raceme emergence was controlled by two genes that displayed classical inhibitory epistasis. The dominant alleles, at two different unlinked pairs of genes are necessary for plants to exhibit indeterminate growth habit and bear straight pods. Any other combination of alleles at the two pairs of genes result in plants displaying determinate growth habit and bearing curved pods. While, the genes controlling growth habit, PSFT and raceme emergence are linked. Those controlling flower colour and pod curvature are segregated independent of each other. These results are discussed in relation to strategies for breeding dolichos bean.  相似文献

Morphological characteristics were studied in cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) cybrids possessing the tobacco nuclear genome, Hyoscyamus niger plastome and recombinant mitochondria. After backcrosses with tobacco, new flower modifications were found, including: conversions of stamens into branched filamentous structures; alterations in the shape of petals and the corolla limb; and high degrees of reduction in most flower organs. Vegetative alterations (leaf elongation and stem branching) occurred in some cybrids. Results confirmed that a protoplast fusion-based alloplasmic cytoplasm transfer, followed by conventional backcrosses, is a useful tool for generating alternative CMS sources with novel nucleo-cytoplasmic compositions. These alterations in the genetic status were accompanied by modified floral and vegetative phenotypes.  相似文献

The genetic architecture of trait differentiation was evaluated between two ecologically distinct populations of Chamaecrista fasciculata. Individuals from Maryland and Illinois populations were crossed to create 10 types of seed: Maryland and Illinois parents, reciprocal F1 and F2 hybrids, and backcrosses to Maryland and to Illinois on reciprocal F1 hybrids. Reciprocal crosses created hybrid generation seeds with both Maryland and Illinois cytoplasmic backgrounds. Experimental individuals were grown in a common garden near the site of the Maryland population. In the garden, plants from the Illinois population flowered, set fruit, and died earlier than those from Maryland, likely reflecting adaptations to differences in growing season length between the two populations. Although reproductive components at the flower and whole plant level differed between the two populations, reproductive output as measured by fruit and seed production was similar. Cytoplasmic genes had a subtle but pervasive effect on population differentiation; hybrids with Maryland cytoplasm were significantly differentiated from those with Illinois cytoplasm when all characters were evaluated jointly. The nuclear genetic architecture of population differentiation was evaluated with joint scaling tests. Depending on the trait, both additive and nonadditive genetic effects contributed to population differentiation. Intraspecific genetic differentiation in this wild plant species appears to reflect a complex genetic architecture that includes the contribution of additive, dominance, and epistatic components in addition to subtle cytoplasmic effects.  相似文献

Summary Protoplast fusion makes possible the fusion of two different cytoplasms, allowing genetical analysis of cytoplasmic factors. Two varieties of Nicotiana tabacum differing by their cytoplasms have been used. Techne, the first variety, obtained by an interspecific cross between N. debneyi (female) and N. tabacum (male) is characterized by the nuclear tabacum genome inside the debneyi cytoplasm. Techne plants present abnormal flowers with cytoplasmic male sterility (cytoplasmic marker) and sessile leave (nuclear marker). Techne leaf protoplasts were fused with leaf protoplasts of N. tabacum var. Samsun (or Xanthi). The last variety is characterized by petiolated leaves and normal flowers, because it possesses the nuclear tabacum genome associated with the tabacum cytoplasm. The nuclear marker (leaf shape) and the cytoplasmic one (flower shape inducing male sterility or fertility) have been used to distinguish among the whole regenerated plants the somatic nuclear hybrids and the cytoplasmic hybrids (cybrids) displaying the nuclear phenotype of one of the two parents associated with a modified flower type, intermediate between the parental ones.The chloroplastic (cp) DNA contained in each parent has been specifically identified by using EcoRI restriction nuclease and gel electrophoresis. EcoRI fragment patterns of cp DNA isolated from the first progeny of the regenerated cytoplasmic hybrids revealed that only one of the two parental cp DNAs is present in all cases; neither mixture of both parental cp DNAs nor recombinant cp DNA molecules were observed. This indicates that a specific elimination of one or the other parental cp DNAs occurs after the initial mixing of the cytoplasms. The study of the association of the modified flower type with the cp DNA isolated from the corresponding plant showed that cp DNA seems independent from the mechanism of cytoplasmic male sterility in tobacco.  相似文献

进化历史和气候条件共同影响中国木本植物花色的分布 本研究以中国木本植物为研究对象,主要探讨两个问题:(1)不同生活型物种花色组成的差异;(2)生物地理区、进化年龄和气候条件对不同花色地理分布格局的影响。研究使用7673种木本植物的物种分布数据和花色信息(分为白色、红色、黄色、黄绿色、绿色和蓝紫色),并结合属级系统进化树来比较不同生活型(包括灌木、乔木和藤本)物种花色组成的差异,分析不同生物地理区、进化年龄和现代气候对花色地理格局的影响。研究结果表明,与乔木和藤本植物相比,灌木具有更高比例 的由花青素着色的红色花和蓝紫色花物种。中国木本植物的花色地理格局受到区域效应和现代气候(尤其是降水和UVB辐射)的共同影响。倾向于蜂媒传粉的黄色花和蓝紫色花物种和由花青素着色、耐环境胁迫的红色花和蓝紫色花物种比例在中国西北部地区更高。绿色花物种的进化起源更早,但进化时间对花色地理格局的解释力很弱。这些结果说明中国木本植物花色的地理格局受到进化历史和现代环境的共同影响。  相似文献

Cytochromes P450 play important roles in biosynthesis of flavonoids and their coloured class of compounds, anthocyanins, both of which are major floral pigments. The number of hydroxyl groups on the B-ring of anthocyanidins (the chromophores and precursors of anthocyanins) impact the anthocyanin colour, the more the bluer. The hydroxylation pattern is determined by two cytochromes P450, flavonoid 3′-hydroxylase (F3′H) and flavonoid 3′,5′-hydroxylase (F3′5′H) and thus they play a crucial role in the determination of flower colour. F3′H and F3′5′H mostly belong to CYP75B and CYP75A, respectively, except for the F3′5′Hs in Compositae that were derived from gene duplication of CYP75B and neofunctionalization. Roses and carnations lack blue/violet flower colours owing to the deficiency of F3′5′H and therefore lack the B-ring-trihydroxylated anthocyanins based upon delphinidin. Successful redirection of the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway to delphinidin was achieved by expressing F3′5′H coding regions resulting in carnations and roses with novel blue hues that have been commercialized. Suppression of F3′5′H and F3′H in delphinidin-producing plants reduced the number of hydroxyl groups on the anthocyanidin B-ring resulting in the production of monohydroxylated anthocyanins based on pelargonidin with a shift in flower colour to orange/red. Pelargonidin biosynthesis is enhanced by additional expression of a dihydroflavonol 4-reductase that can use the monohydroxylated dihydrokaempferol (the pelargonidin precursor). Flavone synthase II (FNSII)-catalysing flavone biosynthesis from flavanones is also a P450 (CYP93B) and contributes to flower colour, because flavones act as co-pigments to anthocyanins and can cause blueing and darkening of colour. However, transgenic plants expression of a FNSII gene yielded paler flowers owing to a reduction of anthocyanins because flavanones are precursors of anthocyanins and flavones.  相似文献

The genetic linkage map for the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a valuable tool for breeding programs. Breeders provide new cultivars that meet the requirements of farmers and consumers, such as seed color, seed size, maturity, and growth habit. A genetic study was conducted to examine the genetics behind certain qualitative traits. Growth habit is usually described as a recessive trait inherited by a single gene, and there is no consensus about the position of the locus. The aim of this study was to develop a new genetic linkage map using genic and genomic microsatellite markers and three morphological traits: growth habit, flower color, and pod tip shape. A mapping population consisting of 380 recombinant F10 lines was generated from IAC-UNA × CAL143. A total of 871 microsatellites were screened for polymorphisms among the parents, and a linkage map was obtained with 198 mapped microsatellites. The total map length was 1865.9 cM, and the average distance between markers was 9.4 cM. Flower color and pod tip shape were mapped and segregated at Mendelian ratios, as expected. The segregation ratio and linkage data analyses indicated that the determinacy growth habit was inherited as two independent and dominant genes, and a genetic model is proposed for this trait.  相似文献

Populations of apomictic seedlings of clones ofCitrus species,Citrus hybrids, andPoncirus in the sub-family Aurantioideae were examined for spontaneous tetraploids as a source of materials for use in breeding experiments. Diagnostic features found useful in identifying nucellar tetraploids were leaf shape, petiole blade shape, leaf blade thickness, leaf color, comparative size differences in leaf venation, oil glands, and stomata, stem thickness, and relative size and developmental pattern of the root system. In older or bearing-age plants, nucellar tetraploids may be identified by differences in growth habit, vigor, size, time of growth initiation and bloom, and flower and fruit characteristics. Data are given for tetraploid frequency in glasshouse-grown, first-year nucellar seedlings of 42 populations of 32 clones of different genetic and seed origin and for tetraploid frequency in commercialnursery nucellar seedlings of the Carrizo rootstock clone in two consecutive years. Comparative data are given for quantitative development of roots, stems, and leaves of tetraploids and similar diploid nucellar seedlings. The data suggest that the ability to produce tetraploid apomictic seedlings is a variable genetic trait present in all or nearly all clones able to reproduce by adventitious embryony. Aspects of tetraploid nucellar seedlings that might warrant their testing as tree-size-controlling rootstocks in commercial citrus growing are discussed.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The presence of connate foliaceous stipules of primary leaves and their inheritance in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) genotype EC394736 is reported for the first time. METHODS: The development of foliaceous stipules (FS) and their persistence were examined throughout the growth and developmental stages of the plants of the genotype EC394736. The shape, size, colour, texture and other parameters were examined in the field during the period 15-50 d after sowing. The area of FS was measured using image analysis software. The inheritance of FS was studied by making a cross between the genotype EC394763 with rudimentary stipules (RS) and the genotype EC394736, which has connate foliaceous stipules of primary leaves. The presence or absence of FS in plants of the F1, F2 and F3 generations was recorded. KEY RESULTS: The stipules developed along with the primary leaves in the genotype EC394736. One stipule of each primary leaf fused with the adjacent stipule of the other primary leaf forming a foliaceous structure. These stipules persisted on the plants for >50 d, even after the primary leaves had withered off. The F1 plants showed an absence of FS indicating the rudimentary stipules to be dominant over foliaceous stipules. The F2 segregation into 15 (RS) : 1 (FS) indicated that duplicate recessive genes controlled the presence of the FS. This was confirmed from the segregation pattern in the F3 generation. CONCLUSIONS: The presence of FS is a unique feature in cowpea genotype EC394736 and duplicate recessive genes govern it. The FS can be used as a morphological marker for identification of cowpea varieties.  相似文献

Summary Protoplasts of 6-azauracil (AU) resistant cell lines of Solanum melongena L. were fused with protoplasts of S. sisymbriifolium Lam. to create somatic hybrids between these sexually-incompatible species. Following fusion, colonies were selected which were capable of growth in medium containing 1mM AU. These colonies were placed on medium containing zeatin which had been shown to stimulate anthocyanin production during shoot organogenesis in tissue explants of S. sisymbriifolium but not in S. melongena. A total of 37 anthocyanin-producing colonies were identified from which 26 hybrid plants were regenerated. The morphological traits intermediate to those of the parents included: flower colour, leaf shape, and trichome density. Cytogenetic analysis revealed that all hybrids were aneuploids but their chromosome numbers were close to the expected number of 48. Isozyme analysis revealed that nuclear genes of both parents were expressed in the hybrids. In addition, isoelectric focussing of the large subunit of ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (Rubisco) provided evidence that each hybrid expressed only the S. sisymbriifolium chloroplast genome. In an F2 population of 120 plants derived from a cross between 2 breeding lines with yellow ray flowers, we observed 111 plants with yellow-colored and 9 plants with lemon-colored ray flowers. The segregation pattern fits a 15:1 (chi2(15:1) = 0.32, P > 0.5) ratio, suggesting that the lemon ray flower color is conditioned by 2 independent recessive genes that had been contributed individually by each of the parents. We sampled 111 plants from the 3 F(2:3) families displaying a 3 to 1 segregating ratio for genotyping with molecular markers. One of the genes, Yf(1), was mapped onto linkage group 11 of the public sunflower map. A targeted region amplified polymorphism marker (B26P17Trap13-68) had a genetic distance of 1.5 cM to Yf(1), and one simple sequence repeat marker (ORS733) and one expressed sequence tag (EST)-based marker (HT167) previously mapped to linkage group 11 were linked to Yf(1) with distances of 9.9 and 2.3 cM, respectively.  相似文献

Mutations affecting leaflet number and shape occurred at high frequencies in some cowpea crosses. Mutant plants were nonpetiolate and unifoliolate as opposed to normal plants which were petiolate and trifoliolate. Two types of unifoliolate mutants were distinguishable on the basis of leaf shape which was ovate in one mutant and orbicular in the other. The nonpetiolate and the unifoliolate traits in the two mutants are each controlled by single recessive genes, but the genes controlling the traits in the different mutants were nonallelic. The orbicular leaf shape was also under the control of a single recessive gene. In the F2 and subsequent generations of the cross IBS 2497 x IBS 2625, orbicular-shaped unifoliolate leaf mutants were regularly produced, although the two parents involved in the cross were both trifoliolate. Linkage tests showed that the genes pt-1 for nonpetiolate trait, un-2 for unifoliolate leaf, and orb for orbicular leaf shape in one of the mutants were located on the same chromosome, while the genes pt-3 and un-3 in the other were also linked on a different chromosome. The results of this study provide further evidence indicating the involvement of transposable elements in the mutations observed in the cowpea lines used in this study.  相似文献

Pollinators are known to exert natural selection on floral traits, but the extent to which combinations of floral traits are subject to correlational selection (nonadditive effects of two traits on fitness) is not well understood. Over two years, we used phenotypic manipulations of plant traits to test for effects of flower colour, flower shape and their interaction on rates of pollinator visitation to Polemonium foliosissimum. We also tested for correlational selection based on weighting visitation by the amount of conspecific pollen delivered per visit by each category of insect visitor. Although bumblebees were the presumed pollinators, solitary bees and flies contributed substantially (42%) to pollination. In manipulations of one trait at a time, insects visited flowers presenting the natural colour and shape over flowers manipulated to present artificial mutants with either paler colour or a more open or more tubular flower. When both colour and shape were manipulated in combination, selection on both traits arose, with bumblebees responding mainly to colour and flies responding mainly to shape. Despite selection on both floral traits, in a year with many bumblebees, we saw no evidence for correlational selection of these traits. In a year when flies predominated, fly visitation showed a pattern of correlational selection, but not favouring the natural phenotype, and correlational selection was still not detected for expected pollen receipt. These results show that flower colour and shape are subject to pollinator‐mediated selection and that correlational selection can be generated based on pollinator visitation alone, but provide no evidence for correlational selection specifically for the current phenotype.  相似文献

Guariroba is a palm species native to central Brazil. Seedlings of guariroba with leaf spots of unknown aetiology were found in Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The leaf spots were manifest as two different symptom types: the first lesion type consisted of necrotic spots with a rounded to elongate shape, with a light colour and dark edges; the second lesion type had a rounded shape, was dark brown in colour with a light brown edge. The objective of this study was to elucidate the aetiology of both diseases. The likely causal agents were isolated and Koch's postulate fulfilled. Subsequently, the ITS region of rDNA from both micro‐organisms were amplified and sequenced. According to the morphological characteristics and molecular analyses, the fungal species were identified as Pestalotiopsis adusta (causing necrotic spots with a rounded to elongate shape, with a light colour and dark edges), and Alternaria tenuissima (causing lesions with a rounded shape, dark brown in colour with a light brown edge). Identification of the causal organisms of these two diseases will help guide management approaches that might be tested to reduce impact of the disease on Guariroba, including the use of fungicides and cultural approaches.  相似文献

Floral induction by night interruption of Fuchsia hybrida cv. Lord Byron, a quantitative long-day plant with decussate phyllotaxis and an indeterminate flowering habit, altered neither the rate of leaf initiation nor the rate of leaf expansion; nor did flower initiation and development change the vegetative growth of the plants. This was diagnosed using plastochron duration and plastochron ratio measurements before, during, and after a 10-day induction period. A comparison between indeterminate and determinate flowering is made using these two parameters.  相似文献

The content of endogenous cytokinin-like substances and the release of ethylene were determined in leaves of different insertion of sunflower plants during their ontogeny. The content of cytokinin-like substances was highest in the leaves on the middle part of the stem (that is in leaves just before full expansion), with a decrease occurring both towards the base and the apex of the stem, when followed at four growth phases (vegetative plants, plants with inflorescence diameter up to 0.5 cm, plants with inflorescence diameter up to 3 cm, and plants in flower). Changes in the content of cytokinin-like substances during the ontogeny of the leaf also corresponded to this pattern. Data obtained with the leaf at the third node from the basis of the stem showed that the level of cytokinin-like substances first sharply increased, and then after reaching maximal value (at the time when leaf blade area reached approximately 70 % of the final value) slowly and continuously decreased. The highest amount of ethylene released from the leaves was recorded in basal leaves and then also in apical leaves, whereas the leaves with the largest blade area situated at the central part of the stem released the lowest amount of ethylene. This pattern was repeatedly found at all four selected growth phases of sunflower plants.  相似文献

Dombeya kefaensis Friis & Bidgood sp. nov., is described from a mosaic of humid montane forest, forest margins, evergreen bushland and farmland of the Kefa Region, SW. Ethiopia. The new species belongs to a group of species in Dombeya subgen. Dombeya with several other endemics in that part of Ethiopia. Among the Ethiopian species of Dombeya subgen. Dombeya it resembles especially D. aethiopica in indumentum and flower colour, but differs in leaf-morphology and habit; it resembles D. buettneri in habit, but differs in the leaf apex being broadly acute to rounded, the sepals and petals longer, and the style having a notable indumentum in more than the basal half. Recent studies have confirmed that a number of taxa belonging to other genera and families are restricted to the Kefa Region and adjacent parts of SW. Ethiopia which confirms the importance of the area as a local centre of diversity.  相似文献

In some species pollination may result in rapid changes in perianth colour and form (petal senescence and abscission, flower closure), rendering the flowers less attractive to pollinators. It has been suggested that this effect is mediated by ethylene. Flowers from about 200 species and 50 families were exposed to ethylene (3 ppm for 24 h at 20 degrees C). The effects on petal senescence and abscission have been described previously. Flower closure and perianth colour changes were generally ethylene-sensitive, but responses showed no consistency within families. Several flowers known to respond to pollination by rapid cessation of attractiveness were also exposed to ethylene: this produced the same effect as pollination, both on flower colour and form. Species that respond to pollination by changing flower form or colour were found exclusively in families in which the species are generally ethylene-sensitive (with regard to changes in perianth form and colour). However, several families are generally ethylene-sensitive but contain no species reported to respond to pollination.  相似文献

Dwarf genotypes of the economically important flowering potted plant Kalanchoe blossfeldiana were developed by molecular breeding. Root inducing (Ri)-lines were regenerated by applying CPPU to the hairy roots, which were produced by inoculating leaf explants with a wild-type Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain ATCC15834. Amplification by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Southern blot analysis confirmed the presence of T-DNA in the Ri-lines. Six Ri-lines were characterised in a greenhouse trial revealing that several morphological traits changed with respect to ornamental value such as plant height, number of lateral shoots, leaf size, leaf number, flower size and number of flowers. The Ri-lines differed in their degree of Ri-phenotype, and the internodes of the Ri-lines were clearly shorter, giving a compact growth habit compared to control plants. Time to anthesis was the same in Ri-line 331 as in control plants and delayed by only 3 days in Ri-line 306 as compared to control plants. A compact plant without delayed flowering can be assumed to be valuable for further breeding.  相似文献
