Objective: Develop a finite element (FE) model of a skull to perform biomechanical studies of maxillary expansion using bone anchors (BA).

Materials and methods: A skull model was developed and assigned material properties based on Hounsfield unit (HU) values of cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) images. A 3 mm diameter cylindrical BA was modelled and inserted in the palatal bone. A 4 mm transverse displacement was applied on the anchor. An evaluation on the effect on local stresses of BA implantation inclination angle was performed.

Results: Proper displacement results and strain–stress trends for the expansion process were present. Stress distribution patterns were similar as reported in the literature. No significant difference between BA inclination angles was found.

Conclusion: This work leads to a better understanding and prediction of craniofacial and maxillary bone remodelling during ME with BA treatments and is a first step towards the development of patient specific treatments.  相似文献

Objectives: Sepsis is associated with oxidative stress. Due to oxidative stress, three tyrosine isoforms, para-, meta-, and ortho-tyrosine (p-, m-, and o-Tyr), can be formed non-enzymatically in smaller amounts. p-Tyr is mainly formed physiologically in the kidneys through the activity of the phenylalanine hydroxylase enzyme. The three tyrosine isoforms may undergo different renal handling.

Methods: Twenty septic patients were involved in the study and 25 healthy individuals served as controls. Blood and urine levels of p-, m-, and o-Tyr were measured on admission and four consecutive days.

Results: Serum m-Tyr levels were higher in septic patients than in controls on days 2 (P = 0.031) and 3 (P = 0.035). Serum p-Tyr levels were lower in the cases than in controls on days 1 (P = 0.005) and 2 (P = 0.040), and subsequently normalized due to a day-by-day elevation (P = 0.002). The tendency of urinary m-Tyr concentration was decreasing (P = 0.041), while that of urinary p-Tyr concentration was increasing (P = 0.001). Fractional excretion of m-Tyr (FEm-Tyr) showed a decreasing tendency (P = 0.009), and was, on all days, higher than FEp-Tyr, which remained near-normal, less than 4%. Procalcitonin showed significant correlation with FEm-Tyr (r = 0.454; P < 0.001).

Discussion: Our data suggest that the oxidative stress marker m-Tyr and physiologic p-Tyr may be handled differently in septic patients. The excretion of m-Tyr correlates with inflammation. m-Tyr may be actively secreted or produced in the kidney in some patients, whereas the decreased serum level of p-Tyr is a consequence of diminished renal production and not of renal loss.  相似文献

The objective was to evaluate the inclusion of macaúba seed cake (MSC) meal in diets for growing rabbits by assessing their growth and slaughtering performance, haematological traits, nutritional contribution of caecotrophs, in vitro digestibility, degradability and fermentation parameters. A total of 88 rabbits were distributed to four groups with 22 animals each and fed diets containing 0, 50, 100 and 150 g/kg of MSC, respectively. The in vitro assays were conducted employing cecum inoculum on the same dietary treatments. The inclusion of MSC yielded a quadratic effect on in vitro dry matter digestibility (< 0.001). The maximum amount of produced gas was raised linearly with the inclusion of MSC (p = 0.016). MSC linearly reduced several variables as the nutritional contribution of caecotrophs in dry matter (p = 0.017) and crude protein (p = 0.014), live weight at 51 d (p = 0.024), body weight gain (p = 0.039), average daily feed intake (ADFI) (p = 0.001) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) (p = 0.007) in the first period evaluated (30–50 d); furthermore the ADFI and FCR the second (51–72 d) and whole period (30–72 d) (p < 0.001). MSC addition caused a quadratic effect on white blood cells count (p = 0.026) and a linear decrease of eosinophils (p = 0.045). In conclusion, the inclusion of up to 150 g/kg of MSC improves the in vitro digestibility and fermentation potential of the diets, reflecting on the ADFI and FCR of the animals, although adverse effects are observed on the weight of the commercial carcass and nutritive contribution of the caecotrophs.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effects of Yucca schidigera powder (YSP) and inulin (IN) on protein fermentation metabolites (short-chain fatty acids [SCFA] and branched-chain fatty acids, phenolic and indolic compounds, biogenic amines, ammonia and pH) by using faecal inocula from dogs fed either a low (L) or a high (H) protein diet (crude protein 201 or 377 g/kg as fed). Four treatments for each diet were evaluated in an in vitro batch culture system over 24 h: (1) control with no addition of substrates; (2) 4 g YSP/l; (3) 5 g IN/l; (4) 4 g YSP/l in combination with 5 g IN/l of faecal culture of dogs fed Diet L or H. Several changes in fermentation metabolites were analysed. Samples incubated with the faecal inocula of dogs fed Diet L produced higher concentrations of total SCFA, propionate (p = 0.001), acetate (p ≤ 0.001), d-lactate (p = 0.041) and indole (p = 0.003), whereas pH (p = 0.004) was decreased. Supplementation of IN increased the content of putrescine, d- and l-lactate, total SCFA, acetate, propionate, n-butyrate (p ≤ 0.001) and n-valerate (p = 0.003), while i-valerate, indole and pH (p ≤ 0.001) were reduced. Ammonia was lower (p = 0.013) in samples with faecal inocula from dogs fed Diet H and further reduced by the addition of IN (p ≤ 0.001). Samples with faecal inocula from dogs fed Diet L had a fewer quotient of ammonia and total SCFA (p = 0.040). Supplementation of YSP (p = 0.021), IN (p ≤ 0.001) and YSP in combination with IN (p = 0.047) led to a higher reduction of the quotient of ammonia and total SCFA. In conclusion, dietary protein concentration and the supplementation of IN resulted in a stimulation of fermentation while YSP appeared to have only minor effects.  相似文献

Objective

This study compared the capabilities of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and dental cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for predicting the cortical bone strength of rat femurs and tibias.

Materials and Methods

Specimens of femurs and tibias obtained from 14 rats were first scanned with DXA to obtain the areal bone mineral density (BMD) of the midshaft cortical portion of the bones. The bones were then scanned using dental CBCT to measure the volumetric cortical bone mineral density (vCtBMD) and the cross-sectional moment of inertia (CSMI) for calculating the bone strength index (BSI). A three-point bending test was conducted to measure the fracture load of each femur and tibia. Bivariate linear Pearson analysis was used to calculate the correlation coefficients (r values) among the CBCT measurements, DXA measurements, and three-point bending parameters.

Results

The correlation coefficients for the associations of the fracture load with areal BMD (measured using DXA), vCtBMD (measured using CBCT), CSMI (measured using CBCT), and BSI were 0.585 (p = 0.028) and 0.532 (p = 0.050) (for the femur and tibia, respectively), 0.638 (p = 0.014) and 0.762 (p = 0.002), 0.778 (p = 0.001) and 0.792 (p<0.001), and 0.822 (p<0.001) and 0.842 (p<0.001), respectively.

Conclusions

CBCT was found to be superior to DXA for predicting cortical bone fracture loads in rat femurs and tibias. The BSI, which is a combined index of densitometric and geometric parameters, was especially useful. Further clinical studies are needed to validate the predictive value of BSI obtained from CBCT and should include testing on human cadaver specimens.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Recently we evaluated by actigraphy the rest-activity circadian rhythm (RAR) in breast cancer (BC) survivors at 5 years from primary diagnosis, as well as in a control group with similar age and body mass index (BMI). RAR, analyzed by Cosinor method, resulted significantly different in BC survivors compared to healthy subjects: BC survivors showed lower values of MESOR and Amplitude (A), while acrophase (φ) was similar in the two groups.

Now, using non-parametric methods we have detected Interdaily Stability (IS), Intradaily Variability (IV), nocturnal activity (L5), and daily activity (M10) on the same sample of previous study: 15 BC survivors at 5 years from the primary diagnosis (mean age = 56.7 ± 6.6 yrs; mean BMI = 24.5 ± 3.8 Kg/m2) and 13 healthy controls (mean age = 54.4 ± 7.2 yrs; mean BMI = 25.2 ± 2.8 Kg/m2).

The non-parametric indices showed that in BC-group IV was significantly higher than in Ctrl-group (0.86 vs. 0.65 a.u. in BC and Ctrl, respectively; p <.01), while L5 (11.27 vs. 34.41 a.c. in BC and Ctrl, respectively; p <.0001) and M10 (326.82 vs. 428.07 a.c. in BC and Ctrl, respectively; p <.01) were significantly lower compared to Ctrl-group.

The data suggest that BC patients need constant clinical assessment of RAR characteristics along the years following the primary diagnosis. The analysis of RAR in all its components, parametric and non-parametric, is important to detect alterations in the sleep-wake cycle and can be useful for developing new strategies for health protection, such as structured and tailored physical activity programs, to improve circadian activity level in order to raise the quality of life in BC survivors.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to explore the effects of a single 10-mg dose of melatonin (MEL) administration after exhaustive late-evening exercise on sleep quality and quantity, and short-term physical and cognitive performances in healthy teenagers. Ten male adolescent athletes (mean ± SD, age = 15.4 ± 0.3 years, body-mass = 60.68 ± 5.7 kg, height = 167.9 ± 6.9 cm and BMI = 21.21 ± 2.5) performed two test sessions separated by at least one week. During each session, participants completed the Yo-Yo intermittent-recovery-test level-1 (YYIRT-1) at ~20:00 h. Then, sleep polysomnography was recorded from 22:15 min to 07:00 h, after a double blind randomized order administration of a single 10-mg tablet of MEL (MEL-10 mg) or Placebo (PLA). The following morning, Hooper wellness index was administered and the participants performed the Choice Reaction Time (CRT) test, the Zazzo test and some short-term physical exercises (YYIRT-1, vertical and horizontal Jumps (VJ; HJ), Hand grip strength (HG), and five-jump test (5-JT)). Evening total distance covered in the YYIRT-1 did not change during the two conditions (p > 0.05). Total sleep time (Δ = 24.55 mn; p < 0.001), sleep efficiency (Δ = 4.47%; p < 0.001), stage-3 sleep (N3 sleep) (Δ = 1.73%; p < 0.05) and rapid-eye-movement sleep (Δ = 2.15%; p < 0.001) were significantly higher with MEL in comparison with PLA. Moreover, sleep-onset-latency (Δ = –8.45mn; p < 0.001), total time of nocturnal awakenings after sleep-onset (NA) (Δ = –11 mn; p < 0.001), stage-1 sleep (N1 sleep) (Δ = –1.7%; p < 0.001) and stage-2 sleep (N2 sleep) (Δ = ?1.9%; p < 0.05) durations were lower with MEL. The Hooper index showed a better subjective sleep quality, a decrease of the subjective perception of fatigue and a reduced level of muscle soreness with MEL. Moreover, MEL improved speed and performance but not inaccuracy during the Zazzo test. CRT was faster with MEL. Morning YYIRT-1 (Δ = 82 m; p < 0.001) and 5-JT (Δ = 0.08 m; p < 0.05) performances were significantly higher with MEL in comparison with PLA. In contrast, HG, VJ and HJ performances did not change during the two conditions (p > 0.05). The administration of a single dose of MEL-10 mg after strenuous late-evening exercise improved sleep quality and quantity, selective attention, subjective assessment of the general wellness state, and some short-term physical performances the following morning in healthy teenagers.  相似文献

Abstract

The effect of 2, 4-dinitrophenol (DNP) on the extracelluar polysaccharides (EPS), cell surface charge, and the hydrophobicity of six marine bacterial cultures was studied, and its influence on attachment of these bacteria to glass and polystyrene was evaluated. DNP treatment did not influence cell surface charge and EPS production, but had a significant effect on hydrophobicity of both hydrophilic (p = 0.05) and hydrophobic (p = 0.01) cultures. Significant reduction in the attachment of all the six cultures to glass (p = 0.02) and polystyrene (p = 0.03) was observed after DNP treatment. Moreover, hydrophobicity but not the cell surface charge or EPS production influenced bacterial cell attachment to glass and polystyrene. From this study, it was evident that DNP treatment influenced bacterial cell surface hydrophobicity, which in turn, reduced bacterial adhesion to surfaces.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the recuperative efficacy of pre-exercise napping on physical capacity after military sustained operations (SUSOPS) with partial sleep deprivation. Before and after a 2-day SUSOPS, 61 cadets completed a battery of questionnaires, and performed a 2-min lunges trial and a 3,000-m running time-trial. After the completion of SUSOPS, subjects were randomized to either a control [without pre-exercise nap (CON); n = 32] or a nap [with a 30-min pre-exercise nap (NAP); n = 29] group. SUSOPS enhanced perceived sleepiness and degraded mood in both groups. Following SUSOPS, the repetitions of lunges, in the CON group, were reduced by ~ 2.3%, albeit the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.62). In the NAP group, however, the repetitions of lunges were increased by ~ 7.1% (p = 0.01). SUSOPS impaired the 3,000-m running performance in the CON group (~ 2.3%; p = 0.02), but not in the NAP group (0.3%; p = 0.71). Present results indicate, therefore, that a relatively brief pre-exercise nap may mitigate physical performance impairments ensued by short-term SUSOPS.  相似文献

Animal studies strongly suggest that timed feeding can have beneficial physiological effects, including protection against the obesogenic and metabolic consequences of a high-fat diet. However, the relationship between variables related to the timing of eating and diet quality in pregnancy women, which is considered as a period of nutritional vulnerability, is still poorly described in the literature. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the associations between time-related eating patterns and chronotype with diet quality of pregnant women. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 100 pregnant women in the first gestational trimester (≤12 weeks of gestation). The information regarding food intake was obtained by three 24-Hour Dietary Recall (24HR). Time-related eating patterns, i.e., the interval between the first and the last meal (eating duration), nightly fasting, time of the first and last meals, and number of meals eating on a day were determined. Chronotype was derived using the mid-sleep time on free days on weekends, with a further correction for calculated sleep debt. Diet quality was evaluated using the Brazilian Healthy Eating Index-Revised (BHEI-R), validated for the Brazilian population. Linear regression modeling analyses adjusted for confounders were used to investigate the association between time-related eating patterns and chronotype with diet quality. The BHEI-R total score was negatively associated with time of the first meal (β = ?0.355; p = 0.002; r2 adjusted = 0.141), and positively associated with eating duration (β = 0.262; p = 0.024; r2 adjusted = 0.086) and number of meals (β = 0.273; p = 0.019; r2 adjusted = 0.091). In addition, the score of total fruit component was negatively associated with chronotype (β = ?0.236; p = 0.033; r2 adjusted = 0.078), time of the first meal (β = ?0.393; p = 0.001; r2 adjusted = 0.171), and positively associated with eating duration (β = 0.259; p = 0.022; r2 adjusted = 0.087) and number of meals (β = 0.376; p = 0.001; r2 adjusted = 0.159). The score for whole fruit component was negatively associated with time of the first meal (β = ?0.388; p = 0.001; r2 adjusted = 0.152), and positively associated with number of meals (β = 0.403; p = 0.001; r2 adjusted = 0.164). A longer eating duration, earlier time of the first meal, higher number of meals and morningness tendency are associated with a better diet quality in the first gestational trimester – higher scores of the total BHEI-R and/or fruit components. We suggest that nutritional guidelines should consider time-related eating patterns and chronotype to ensure good diet quality of pregnant women since the beginning of gestation, contributing on prevention of metabolic-nutritional complications.  相似文献

The aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of a permanent heat exposure during 21 days on pig performance, nutrient digestibility, physiological response and key enzyme of skeletal muscle energy metabolism. Twenty-four male finishing pigs (crossbreed castrates, 79.0 ± 1.50 kg body weight) were allocated to three groups (n = 8): (1) Control (ambient temperature (AT) 22°C, ad libitum feeding), (2) Group HE (AT 30°C, ad libitum feeding) and (3) Group PF (AT 22°C, pair-fed to Group HE). The permanent heat exposure decreased feed intake (p < 0.01), daily body weight gain (p < 0.05) and the digestibility of gross energy, dry matter, crude protein and ash (p < 0.05); rectal temperature and respiration rate were significantly increased (p < 0.01). The levels of plasma cortisol, creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase were also significantly increased in Group HE (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the heat exposure changed intracellular energy metabolism, where the AMP-activated protein kinase was activated (= 0.02). This was combined with changes in parameters of glycolysis such as an accumulation of lactic acid (= 0.02) and a drop of pH24?h (= 0.02), an increase of hexokinase and pyruvate kinase activity (p < 0.01) and, finally, the maturation process of post mortem muscle was influenced. Due to pair-feeding it was possible to evaluate the effects of heat exposure, which were not dependent on reduced feed intake. Such effects were, e.g., reduced nutrient digestibility and changed activities of several enzymes in muscle and blood serum.  相似文献

The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the effects of commercially applied environmental enrichments on behavior and lameness in broilers. Two consecutive flocks of broilers were observed at 16 days and 30 days of age to investigate differences between enriched (peat, bales of lucerne hay, and elevated platforms) and control birds with regards to behavioral activities and lameness. More running (p < .001), worm running (p = .006), play fighting (p = .015), dust bathing (p = .009), and ground pecking while standing (p < .001) were observed at 16 days than at 30 days. Across both ages, enriched birds showed more wing flapping (p = .016), wing stretching (p = .002), body shaking (p = .002), ground scratching (p < .001), and ground pecking while standing (p < .001) and lying (p = .003) compared with control birds. Even when no enrichments were close, enriched birds showed more body shaking (p = .008) and ground pecking while standing (p < 0.001) and lying (p = .010) than birds in comparable locations in control pens. There was a tendency for a lower gait score (i.e., reduced lameness) with the enriched treatment (p = .077). In conclusion, enriched birds showed higher levels of several activities compared with control birds, and demonstrated higher levels in areas where no enrichments were present.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated visual sensitivity to luminance contrast during a daily period. Twenty-eight young male adults (M = 24.85; SD = 2.4) with normal color vision and 20/20 visual acuity participated in this study. The circadian pattern was assessed using the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and a sleep diary. To measure the luminance contrast, we used version 11.0 of the Metropsis software with sine-element frequency stimuli for spatial frequencies of 0.2, 0.6, 1, 3.1, 6.1, 8.8, 13.2, and 15.6 cycles per degree of visual angle (cpd). The stimuli were presented on a 19-inch color cathode ray tube (CRT) video monitor with a resolution of 1024 × 786 pixels, an update rate of 100 Hz, and a photopic luminance of 39.6 cd/m2. There was a significant difference in KSS on the weekdays [χ2(2) = 20.27; p = .001] and in the luminance contrast for frequencies of 13.2 cpd [χ2(2) = 8.27; p = .001] and 15.6 cpd [χ2(2) = 13.72; p = .041]. The results showed greater stability of the measurement during the afternoon and a reduction in the visual sensitivity in the high spatial frequencies during the night.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to examine the biochemical influence of feeding high dietary fibre (DF) diets formulated from by-products from the vegetable and agricultural industries to sows during early to mid-gestation. The effect of feeding frequency (once vs. twice daily) on diurnal plasma metabolites patterns was also examined. The study included a total of 48 gestating sows from four blocks (12 gestating sows in each block). The sows were fed four different diets containing varying levels of starch (304–519 g/kg dry matter (DM)) and DF (171–404 g/kg DM) but with equal amounts of net energy. The low-DF diet (control) was based on barley and wheat, and the three high-DF diets formulated by replacing barley and wheat by pectin residue, sugar beet pulp and potato pulp, respectively. The experimental design comprised two periods of 4 weeks each. Half the sows were fed once daily at 08:00 h in the first period and twice daily at 08:00 and 15:00 h during the second period, and vice versa for the other half of the sows. Plasma samples from vena jugularis were collected by venipuncture at 07:00, 09:00, 12:00 and 19:00 h. Feeding high-DF increased plasma short-chain fatty acids (p = 0.02) and non-esterified fatty acids (p < 0.001). However, there was no clear effect of DF on glucose and insulin responses. A negative correlation between amount of DF in the diets and plasma creatine (R 2 = 1.00; diet effect: p = 0.02) suggested that plasma creatine concentrations was an indicator for the level of glucose–glycogen interchange. Furthermore, an explorative approach using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy-based metabonomics identified betaine (p < 0.001), dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2; p < 0.001) and scyllo-inositol (p < 0.001) as biomarkers for the different by-products; pectin residue was related to high plasma levels of DMSO2, sugar beet pulp to plasma betaine, DMSO2 and scyllo-inositol, and potato pulp to plasma DMSO2 and scyllo-inositol. In conclusion, replacing starch by DF affected surprisingly few metabolites in peripheral plasma. No negative effects were found in feeding pectin residue, sugar beet pulp or potato pulp for gestating sows as judged from the minor metabolic changes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Previous findings suggest that performing strength training (ST) in the evening may provide greater benefit for young individuals. However, this may not be optimal for the older population. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a 12-week ST program performed in the morning vs. evening on strength, functional capacity, metabolic biomarker and basal hormone concentrations in older women. Thirty-one healthy older women (66 ± 4 years, 162 ± 4 cm, 75 ± 13 kg) completed the study. Participants trained in the morning (M) (07:30, n = 10), in the evening (E) (18:00, n = 10), or acted as a non-training control group (C) (n = 11). Both intervention groups performed whole-body strength training with 3 sets of 10–12 repetitions with 2–3 minutes rest between sets. All groups were measured before and after the 12-week period with; dynamic leg press and seated-row 6-repetition maximum (6-RM) and functional capacity tests (30-second chair stands and arm curl test, Timed Up and Go), as well as whole-body skeletal muscle mass (SMM) (kg) and fat mass (FM-kg, FM%) assessed by bioelectrical impedance (BIA). Basal blood samples (in the intervention groups only) taken before and after the intervention assessed low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), blood glucose (GLU), triglycerides (TG), high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) concentrations and total antioxidant status (TAS) after a 12 h fast. Hormone analysis included prolactin (PRL), progesterone (P) estradiol (ESTR), testosterone (T), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH). While C showed no changes in any variable, both M and E significantly improved leg press (+ 46 ± 22% and + 21 ± 12%, respectively; p < 0.001) and seated-row (+ 48 ± 21% and + 42 ± 18%, respectively; p < 0.001) 6-RM, as well as all functional capacity outcomes (p < 0.01) due to training. M were the only group to increase muscle mass (+ 3 ± 2%, p < 0.01). Both M and E group significantly (p < 0.05) decreased GLU (–4 ± 6% and –8 ± 10%, respectively), whereas significantly greater decrease was observed in the E compared to the M group (p < 0.05). Only E group significantly decreased TG (–17 ± 25%, p < 0.01), whereas M group increased (+ 15%, p < 0.01). The difference in TG between the groups favored E compared to M group (p < 0.01). These results suggest that short-term “hypertrophic” ST alone mainly improves strength and functional capacity performance, but it influences metabolic and hormonal profile of healthy older women to a lesser extent. In this group of previously untrained older women, time-of-day did not have a major effect on outcome variables, but some evidence suggests that training in the morning may be more beneficial for muscle hypertrophy (i.e. only M significantly increased muscle mass and had larger effect size (M: g = 2 vs. E: g = 0.5).  相似文献

One measurement and an algebraic formula are used to calculate the incident air kerma (Ka,i) at the skin after any CT examination, including cone-beam CT (CBCT) and multi-slice CT (MSCT).Empty scans were performed with X-ray CBCT systems (dental, C-arm and linac guidance scanners) as well as two MSCT scanners. The accumulated Ka,i at the flat panel (in CBCT) or the maximum incident air kerma at the isocentre (in MSCT) were measured using a solid-state probe. The average Ka,i(skin), at the skin of a hypothetical patient, was calculated using the proposed formula. Additional measurements of dose at the isocentre (DFOV) and kerma-area product (KAP), as well as Ka,i(skin) from thermoluminiscence dosimeters (TLDs) and size-specific dose estimates are presented for comparison. The Ka,i(skin) for the standard head size in the dental scanner, the C-arm (high dose head protocol) and the linac (head protocol) were respectively 3.33 ± 0.19 mGy, 15.15 ± 0.76 mGy and 3.23 ± 0.16 mGy. For the first MSCT, the calculated Ka,i(skin) was 13.1 ± 0.7 mGy and the TLDs provided a Ka,i(skin) between 10.3 ± 1.1 mGy and 13.8 ± 1.4 mGy.Estimation of patient air kerma in tomography with an uncertainty below 7% is thus feasible using an empty scan and conventional measurement tools. The provided equations and website can be applied to a standard size for the sake of quality control or to several sizes for the definition of diagnostic reference levels (DRLs). The obtained incident air kerma can be directly compared to the Ka,i from other X-ray modalities as recommended by ICRU and IAEA.  相似文献

Some studies have proposed that self-reported eveningness, which reflects the preference of performing activities in the evening, may harm nutritional health and influence the eating behavior and nutritional status of individuals. However, the relationship between these variables (eveningness and nutritional status) and the consumption of breakfast, which is currently considered a marker of health, has been insufficiently explored by studies. The aim of this study was to investigate, in undergraduate students, the association between diurnal preference, being overweight, and food consumption (with special focus on breakfast). The study included 721 undergraduate students from a Brazilian public university. Dietary intake was assessed by 24-hour food recall, and the usual time for breakfast was identified. Body weight, height, and waist circumference were measured by trained researchers. Diurnal preference was determined by the Horne and Ostberg questionnaire validated for the Brazilian population, and the participants were classified into three categories: evening (coefficient: 16–41), intermediate type (coefficient: 42–58) or morning type (coefficient: 59–86). The prevalence of skipping breakfast was higher among the evening types (p = 0.02), when compared with morning and intermediate types. A negative association between the diurnal preference coefficient and total caloric (coefficient ?0.25, p = 0.007, r2 adjusted = 0.12), carbohydrate (coefficient ?0.19, p = ?0.04, r2 adjusted = 0.04) and lipid intake (coefficient ?0.18, p = 0.04, r2 adjusted = 0.05) was also found in the breakfast skippers but not in breakfast eaters. In other words, breakfast skippers with diurnal preference values indicative of eveningness consumed more calories, carbohydrates and fats. Evening types presented significant odds of skipping breakfast (OR = 1.7, CI = 1.1–2.9, p = 0.02) when compared with morning and intermediate chronotypes. We conclude that eveningness is associated with skipping breakfast and a higher consumption of calories, carbohydrates and fats in breakfast skippers. These eating behaviors may predispose these individuals to being overweight.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We aimed to study whether permanent night workers sleep and psychosocial factors differ from day workers and shift workers. The participants (n = 9 312, 92% females, average age 45 years, most commonly nurses and departmental secretaries) were day workers (DW, n = 2 672), shift workers (SW, n = 6 486) and permanent night workers (PNW, n = 154). The Finnish Public Sector survey responses from six hospital districts from 2012 were combined to payroll data from 91 days preceding the survey. The data were analyzed using Pearson χ2-test, one-way ANOVA and multinomial logistic regression analysis. The PNWs reported slightly longer average sleep length than the SWs or the DWs (7:27 vs. 7:13 and 7:10 h, p < 0.001). The PNWs reported least often difficulties in maintaining sleep (p < 0.001) compared to the SWs and the DWs. The PNWs reported most often difficulties to fall asleep and fatigue during free-time (p-values <0.001). The DWs and PNWs experienced less often work-life conflict than the SWs (25 and 26 vs. 38%, p < 0.001). The PNWs were more often satisfied with autonomy at work and appreciation and fair treatment by colleagues than the DWs or the SWs (p < 0.001). The SWs and PNWs reported remarkably higher occurrence of verbal (p < 0.001, OR 3.71, 95% CI 3.23–4.27 and OR 7.67, 95% CI 5.35–10.99, respectively) and physical workplace violence (p < 0.001, OR 9.24, 95% CI 7.17–11.90 and OR 28.34, 95% CI 16.64–43.06, respectively) compared to DWs. Conclusively, PNWs reported contradictory differences in sleep quality compared to DWs and SWs. PNWs are more often satisfied with their colleagues and autonomy at work than DWs or SWs but face workplace violence remarkably more often.  相似文献

Background

Systems for estimating body condition score (BCS) are currently used in canine practice to monitor fatness levels. These tools are cheap and easy to use but lack the necessary precision to monitor small changes in body fat, particularly during weight control treatments or in research. The present work aims to study the application of real-time ultrasonography (RTU) together with image analysis in the assessment of subcutaneous fat depots in dogs. Ultrasound images were collected from five anatomical locations (chest, flank, abdomen, thigh and lumbar) from 28 healthy dogs of different breeds and with a body weight (BW) ranging from 5.2 to 33.0 kg. BCS was collected by visual appraisal using a 5-point scale. Subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT) was estimated from RTU images, using the average of three measurements taken in fat deposits located above the muscles represented in each image. Correlations were established between SFT and BW or BCS as well as a classification of BCS-based fatness [overweight (BCS = 4), ideal (BCS = 3) and lean (BCS = 2)].

Results

SFT was found to differ between the five regions considered (P < 0.001). Abdomen and thigh were the areas displaying the widest variation for the different dogs included in the study and also those correlating most with BW, in contrast to the chest, which showed the least variation. Overall, a strong correlation was found between BCS and SFT. The highest correlations were established for the flank, abdomen and lumbar areas. In every anatomical area, a decrease in SFT was observed across all three BCS classes, ranging from 48 to 65 % among overweight and ideal dogs, and from 46 to 83 % among ideal and lean dogs.

Conclusions

Preliminary data showed that within this population there was a strong correlation between BCS and SFT estimated from RTU images. It was also observed that RTU measurements for fat thickness differed among the anatomical points surveyed suggesting differences in their sensitivity to a change in BCS. The images displaying the best prediction value for fatness variations were those collected at the lumbar and abdomen areas.
