This work focuses on aspects of reproductive biology of Sardina pilchardus from the Atlantic coast of Morocco. The mean values of batch fecundity estimated for the species is 23150(+/-1301) oocytes for a mean size of 19.5(+/-0.49) cm, the mean relative fecundity being 346(+/-7.34) oocytes per gram of female without ovary. Batch fecundity increases with total length and body weight without ovary. Sizes at first sexual maturity (L50) are reached for males and females at 15.8(+/-0.29) cm and 15.8(+/-0.35) cm, respectively. The spawning period for the population extends between October and July and the spawning peak occurs from October to February. However, the small sardines (14.5-17 cm) in their first reproduction spawn between November and June, whereas larger fish (17.5-25 cm) spawn between October and July. The factor of condition (K) increased in summer during the sexual resting phase. It is weak in winter during the period of reproduction. Regarding, the sex ratio, there was no significant difference in the number of males and females.  相似文献

We compared the fatty acid (FA) composition of the muscle and gonads of female Iberian sardines with hydrated oocytes collected during the 2002/03 spawning season off southern Portugal (November and February) and off western Portugal (February). Sardine condition and total FA concentration in the muscle decreased between the two sampling dates, while the gonadosomatic index was similar between samples. Total monounsaturated FA concentrations in sardine gonads were different for the three samples while saturated and polyunsaturated FA concentrations were similar. Significant linear relations were found between FA concentrations in female muscle and oocytes, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5n − 3) and arachidonic acid (AA; 20:4n − 6), both being essential for normal larval development. The concentration of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6n − 3) in oocytes was independent on muscle concentration, probably resulting from its selective transfer to the oocytes. The EPA/DHA ratio was highly conserved in sardine tissues, while DHA/AA and EPA/AA ratios varied significantly between samples. These results indicate that the FA content of eggs produced by sardines varies throughout the spawning season, egg FA concentrations decreasing as females lose condition, and FA composition also shows spatial variability. Both types of variability may have a significant impact on egg quality, particularly on the amount of reserves available to larvae affecting their resistance to starvation, and the appropriate FA composition required for normal growth.  相似文献

The European pilchard Sardina pilchardus represents the most commercially relevant fisheries resource in many countries bordering north Atlantic coasts and the Mediterranean Sea, being especially significant along the coast of Morocco. The continuous exploitation of this pelagic species for several decades places Morocco as the leader in sardine production. However, the conditions of exploitation of this resource underwent a great change during the last recent years. In order to identify the populations of the European pilchard sardine (Sardina pilchardus, Walbaum, 1792) in the Atlantic coast of Morocco and Spain, we have combined the truss network data to conduct multivariate analysis with biologic parameters and genetic analysis based on Microsatellite and mitochondrial control region data. Sardine morphometrics data truss variables from 10 samples spanning the Atlantic coast of Morocco were analysed by multivariate analysis. Thirteen morphometric measurements and some biological parameters such as the sex and the age of fishes were made for each individual. Discriminant analysis on size-corrected truss variables and cluster analysis of mean fishes shape using landmark data indicate, that the shape of north Moroccan sardines is distinct from the shape of sardines from south Morocco. However the analysis of the mitochondrial region and four microsatellites loci (Sp2, Sp7, Sp8 and SpI5) demonstrated an homogeneity population in the Moroccan Atlantic coast, with a low but significant genetic differentiation, which followed an isolation-by-distance pattern according to Mantel test.  相似文献

The study objective was to analyse Sardina pilchardus (Walb., 1792) for mesenteric fat, which is easier to evaluate than the muscle lipid, for comparisons thereof with the sexual cycle and condition of the examined specimens. Fat reserves, moisture and the sexual cycle of sardines were studied from monthly random samples of purse seine catches from March 2004 to February 2005. A total of 1209 specimens were collected (668 males; 541 females). Total length and mass ranged from 13.0 to 19.0 cm and from 16.7 to 51.5 g, respectively. Lipid analyses in muscle tissues were done using the Soxhlet method. An inverse relation between fat content and the sexual cycle was established. Greatest fat quantities were observed in August (72%) during the gonadal resting phase; lowest values were noted in winter, and in spring during the spawning period peak. Moisture content and sexual cycle were positively correlated ( r  = 0.7913). Total lipids in sardine tissues were higher in females than in males; however, the moisture content was higher in males than in females.  相似文献

The intention of this experiment was to assess the effects of different sources of dietary lipid on the fatty acid composition of the fillet and liver and the flesh quality traits of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) after a 70‐day feeding period. Four iso‐nitrogenous (approx. 51% crude protein) and iso‐lipidic (approx. 14% crude lipid) experimental diets were formulated. The control diet contained only fish oil (FO) as the primary lipid source. In the other three dietary treatments, fish oil was replaced by 100% (LO30/SO35/SFO35) and 70% (FO30/LO35/SO35 or FO30/SO35/SFO35) sesame oil (SO), linseed oil (LO), or sunflower oil (SFO). Triplicate groups of 40 rainbow trout (~46 g) held under similar culture conditions were hand‐fed daily to apparent satiation for 70 days. At the end of the feeding trials, no difference in growth performance among experimental groups was noted (P > 0.05). There were some differences in the proximate composition of fish fillets (P < 0.05): the eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels were highest in fish fed the control diet (P < 0.05); and EPA and DHA levels in fish fed the FO30/LO35/SO35 diet were closest to the control diet (P < 0.05). In contrast, fish fed the diet containing 100% plant oils (LO30/SO35/SFO35) had the highest level of total n‐6 fatty acids in the fillet and liver. In a 12‐day refrigerated storage at 1°C the thiobarbituric acid (TBA), trimethylamin nitrogen (TMA‐N) and pH values gradually increased in all dietary groups (P < 0.05). The chemical indicators of spoilage, TBA, TMA‐N, and pH values were within the limit of acceptability for human consumption.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine whether location and sex affected the age precision estimates between two southern, reservoir populations of paddlefish [Polyodon spathula (Walbaum, 1792)]. From 589 paddlefish collected in Grand Lake and Keystone Lake, Oklahoma in 2011, ages from dentaries were estimated using three independent readers and precision was compared with coefficient of variation between locations and sexes. Summary The pineal organ of the sardine, Sardina pilchardus sardina, was investigated light and electron microscopically. The pineal parenchyma contains sensory cells, supporting cells, and ganglion cells, and the overlying tissues appear specialized for light penetration. The ganglion cells are arranged in 3 groups, their axons giving rise to the tractus epiphyseos. The sensory cell is of a photoreceptor type found in several other teleost species. No definitive evidence of a secretion was educed but some indications of an endocrine function are reported and discussed.The pineal receptor cell of neonates of Mugil spp. which have a pigment-free spot above the pineal organ, was investigated electron microscopically and found to have the same organization as that of adult Mugil auratus.Supported by grants from the Helge Ax:son Johnsons Stiftelse, Stockholm, and from the Kungliga Vetenskapsakademien, Stockholm, Sweden. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains were assayed for the conservation of fresh sardine "Sardina pilchardus". Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. delbrueckii was used for inoculation of sardine fillets in a solution of NaCl (5%, w/w) and glucose (4%, w/w) concentration in water. Microbial counts including Standard Plate Count (SPC), LAB, yeasts, coliforms, Salmonella, staphylococci and Clostridium were followed during two weeks of storage at 30 degrees C. Determinations of chemical parameters including pH, dry matter, fat, ash, total nitrogen (NT), total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN) and trimethylamine (TMA) were carried out under the same conditions. Chemical determinations showed a net pH decrease from an initial value of 6.05 in raw sardine fillets to 4.3 after 16 days of fermentation. Increases in TMA content and TBVN were observed. Microbiological control showed that LAB counts reached a level up to 3.10(9) cfu/g after 4 days of fermentation. After two weeks, fermented fish was free of coliforms and Salmonella. The inhibition of pathogenic microflora including staphylococci and Clostridium was also observed. The results indicated that controlled LAB fermentation could be used as a successful process for biopreservation of sardines produced in huge quantities in Morocco.  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementing exogenous enzymes on growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and apparent nutrient digestibility in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fry diets containing 32% canola meal. Five experimental diets (including a control diet containing no enzymes) were prepared as isonitrogenous (44% crude protein) and isocaloric (4000 kcal DE kg1). The four other diets contained either cellulase, phytase, pectinase or an enzyme mix (a mixture of cellulase, phytase and pectinase in the same ratio). The feeding trial was conducted in triplicate for 12 weeks in 15 tanks (100‐L). At the beginning of the experiment 20 rainbow trout fry (initial weight 1.23 g) were stocked into each tank. Mean water temperature in the rearing tanks was 11°C and water flow in each tank was 6 L min?1. At the end of the experiment the growth parameters and FCR displayed no significant differences in enzyme supplementation (P > 0.05). In addition, no differences were observed in dry matter, protein, or lipid digestibility with enzyme supplementation (P > 0.05). The results of this study showed that the addition of pectinase, phytase, cellulase or an enzyme mix to a diet containing 32% canola meal had no effect on growth, feed efficiency or dry matter, protein, or lipid digestibility in rainbow trout fry.  相似文献

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of the most frequently detected mycotoxins in agricultural commodities used as animal feedstuff in Central Europe. This study focuses on determining effects of diets containing DON on oxidative stress markers and detoxifying enzymes in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The fish were fed with commercial pellets containing DON at a concentration of 2 mg kg?1. Selected enzymes were measured in liver, gill and caudal kidney of the fish after 23 and 32 days of the experiment. Significant differences between the control and experimental groups were observed concerning activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in kidney, glutathione reductase (GR) in gill and kidney, catalase (CAT) in kidney and liver and glutathione S‐transferase (GST) in gill and liver. No significant differences were found for superoxide dismutase (SOD) gene expression, lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and the ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP). The data show that DON in the diet at the concentration below EC recommendation (2006/576/EC) induces oxidative stress in the rainbow trout.  相似文献

Effects of about ninety oligopeptides, containing L-Phe, L-Tyr, L-Trp, L-His and L-Met, on the excitability of two identifiable giant neurones (the PON, periodically oscillating neurone ; and the TAN, tonically autoactive neurone) of Achatine fulica Férussac were examined. Three oligopeptides, L-Lys-L-Phe-L-Tyr, L-Phe-L-Tyr and L-Phe-L-Trp, showed an inhibitory effect on the PON. However, this effect on the PON was weaker than that of the same three peptides on the TAN. [The latter has been reported in previous papers (1 to 3)]. Besides the three oligopeptides mentioned, four peptides, L-Phe-L-Phe, L-Phe-L-Phe-L-Phe, L-Tyr-L-Tyr and L-Tyr-L-Tyr-LTyr, still showed a weak inhibitory effect on the TAN in a high concentration.  相似文献

Quantitative determination of antimicrobial compounds produced by the Lactobacillus strains under test was carried out. L. plantarum F1 produced the highest quantity of lactic acid (16.4 g/l) while the lowest amount (0.3 g/l) was produced by L. jensenii F9. All the test organisms produced hydrogen peroxide, with L. brevis OG1 having the highest yield of 0.037 g/l. Diacetyl was also produced by all the organisms, with L. plantarum F1 and L. brevis OG1 having the highest yield of 1.7 g/l, while the lowest producer was L. jensenii F9 (0.86 g/l). Determination of bacteriocin activity was carried out. L. plantarum F1 exhibited 6400 AU/ml bacteriocin activity, while L. brevis OG1 had the lowest activity of 3200 AU/ml using E. coli NCTC10418 as indicator organism. However, L. fermentum F5 and L. jensenii F9 did not produce any detectable bacteriocin. The pH value in the culture supernatant of L. plantarum F1 reached 3.1 within 48 h of incubation, while that of L. jensenii F9 was 5.2. Fufu was prepared using both bacteriocin-producing (BP) L. plantarum F1 and L. brevis OG1, and non-bacteriocin producing L. fermentum F5 and L. jensenii F9. No viable cells of Salmonella typhimurium ATCC13311 and Shigella flexneri AP23498 were detected after 12 h in the cassava products fermented with mixed starter culture of L. plantarum F1 and L. brevis OG1. The rate of survival of enteropathogens in cassava fermented with mixed starter cultures of L. plantarum F1 and L. brevis OG1 was much lower when compared to cassava fermented with mixed starter culture of L. fermentum F5 and L. jensenii F9. At 12 h, the viable count of E. coli NCTC10418 in cassava fermented with mixed starter cultures of L. plantarum F1 and L. brevis OG1 was 1.1 log10 c.f.u./g whereas in cassava fermented with mixed starter cultures of L. fermentum F5 and L. jensenii F9, 8.5 log10 c.f.u./g was obtained The study revealed that fufu produced with BP mixed starter cultures had a better shelf life and kept for 13 days before spoilage occurred, relative to 5 days observed for fufu produced using non-bacteriocin-producing starter cultures, and 6 days for the traditional fermented fufu.  相似文献

The life cycles of cyst-forming coccidia of the genera Sarcocystis and Toxoplasma have been first analysed in terms of generally recognized biological phenomena, such as proliferation, differentiation, dedifferentiation, programmed cell death. The differences, existing between the respective obligatory heteroxenous (Sarcocystis) and facultatively heteroxenous (Toxoplasma) life cycles, have been found to involve the obvious differences in the degree of a zoite's differentiation, occurring in the course of asexual development in the intermediate host. In Sarcocystis spp., the degree of differentiation in merozoites, throughout their development, is much higher than in those of T. gondii. This level of merozoite differentiation in Sarcocystis is thought to determine the irreversible, one-directional way of both pre-cystic and cystic development of the pathogen, starting from the sporozoite stage and terminating in gamont formation within the tissue cyst. Unlike, in T. gondii, the level of merozoite differentiation is not so strong as in Sarcocystis spp., which may account for the reversible merozoite development in the former, which is clearly demonstrated by a ready conversion of pre-cystic tachyzoites into cystic bradyzoites, and the other way round. In the course of endogenous development, the pathogens adversely affect their environment (the infected cells and tissues), which, in its turn, may exert its influence on the particular parasites. Thus, both the parasite and the host represent a unique feed-bach regulatory system.  相似文献

Adult male mongrel dogs were treated with the LHRH agonist [D-Trp6, des-Gly-NH10(2)]LHRH ethylamide, aminoglutethimide, ketoconazole or flutamide alone or in combination for 21 days before measurement of steroid levels in the testes, prostate, adrenals and serum. Ketoconazole alone caused a marked stimulation of the intra-testicular concentration of pregnenolone, 17OH-pregnenolone, progesterone and 17OH-progesterone with no or little change of androstenedione, testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. Aminoglutethimide caused a 30-95% inhibition in the concentration of all steroids in the tests while treatment with the LHRH agonist caused a near complete inhibition of all testicular steroids. When administered concomitantly with the LHRH agonist, ketoconazole partly prevented the inhibitory effect of the LHRH agonist on testicular steroid levels. Serum levels of dehydroepiandrosterone, androst-5-ene-3 beta,17 beta-diol, androstenedione and androstane-3 alpha, 17 beta-diol were 75 to 95% inhibited by the LHRH agonist while serum testosterone and dihydrotestosterone concentrations were reduced below detection limits by the same treatment. Moreover, treatment with the LHRH agonist caused a 70-95% reduction in the intraprostatic concentration of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in all the groups although maximal effect was observed when the LHRH agonist was combined with any of the three other agents. The present data show that while treatment with ketoconazole, aminoglutethimide or Flutamide alone has only partial inhibitory effects on androgen levels, combination with an LHRH agonist provides maximal inhibition. In addition to its direct blockade of the androgen receptor, some of the effect of Flutamide could be related to its blockade of testicular 3 beta-hydroxy-steroid dehydrogenase activity.  相似文献

Telomeric guanine-rich sequence can adopt quadruplex structures that are important for their biological role in chromosomal stabilisation. G quartets are characterised by the cyclic hydrogen bonding of four guanine bases in a coplanar arrangement and their stability is ion-dependent. In this work we compare the stability of [d(TGGGT)]4 and [d(T*GGGT)]4 quadruplexes. The last one contains a modified thymine, where the hydroxyl group substitutes one hydrogen atom of the methyl group of the thymine in the [d(TGGGT)]4 sequence. We used a combination of spectroscopic, calorimetric and computational techniques to characterise the G-quadruplex formation. NMR and CD spectra of [d(T*GGGT)]4 were characteristic of parallel-stranded, tetramolecular quadruplex. CD and DSC melting experiments reveal that [d(T*GGGT)]4 is less stable that unmodified quadruplex. Molecular models suggest possible explanation for the observed behaviour.  相似文献
