This study aimed to determine the age and some growth characteristics of Atlantic stargazer (Uranoscopus scaber) from Iskenderun Bay (Northeastern Mediterranean). For this purpose, a total of 150 Atlantic stargazer ranging in size from 9.1 to 28.0 cm in total length (weight: 11.7–345.7 g) were collected as by-catch from a commercial trawl fishing boat at a depth of 80–100 m between May 2015 and January 2016. The bottom trawl gear used was equipped with a 44 mm stretched mesh size net at the cod-end. The percentage of females and males were 46.7% and 53.3% respectively. The total length–weight relationships equation with coefficient of determination (R2) were found as W = 0.011*TL3.131, R2 = .9728, for all individuals, W = 0.015*TL3.021, R2 = .9512 for females and W = 0.0102*TL3.136, R2 = .9553 for males. By using the von Bertalanffy equation, the growth parameters of Atlantic stargazer were estimated to be L∞ = 42.35 cm, k = 0.098, t0 = −1.8474 for all individuals; L∞ = 36.92 cm, k = 0.138, t0 = −1.2693 for females and L∞ = 38.77 cm, k = 0.1, t0 = −2.334 for males. In this study, age reading was done by two independent readers and index of average percentage error (IAPE) was calculated as 6.1%. The highest condition factor value calculated as 1.81 in the age group 6 and the lowest condition factor value was calculated as 1.48 in the age group 1. 相似文献

Growth and feeding of stingray ( Dasyatis pastinaca ) were studied using 346 specimens from the Cilician Basin coastal area (northeastern Mediterranean). Age classes between 0 to XII were found. The total length of all specimens ranged from 14.6 to 100.9 cm, and total weight was between 22.5 and 6800 g. Total length (TL)-weight (W) and disc width (DW)-weight (W) relationships were W = 0.0033*L3.1429 and W = 0.0039*DW3.4914 , respectively. The age data, derived from central readings, were used to estimate the von Bertalanffy length and weight growth parameters. The results were L∞ = 294.9 cm, W∞ = 198690.1 g, K = 0.029 year−1 ; t0 = −2.2 year. The D. pastinaca diet was composed mainly of crustaceans. 相似文献

The present study was conducted to determine the age relationships in lengths and weights of Boops boops (Linneaus, 1756) in Izmir Bay, central Aegean Sea. A total of 932 specimens (503 females and 429 males) were caught by gillnet, trammel net and a combination thereof on a monthly sampling basis from November 2008 through October 2009. Total length and weight of sampled fish ranged from 11.3 to 27.9 cm and from 12.2 to 261.7 g, with a mean of 19.6 cm and 82.7 g, respectively. Length‐weight relationships for all individuals were described by the parameters a = 0.0050, b = 3.237 and r² = 0.956. The von Bertalanffy growth curve fitted to the lengths‐at‐age provided parameters of L∞ = 29.87 cm k = 0.243 and to = ?0.98 for males and L∞ = 30.79 cm, k = 0.239 and to = ?0.90 for females. Based on otolith readings, age determinations varied from 1 to 5 years. Maximum age was 5 years in age group 2, with 29.84 and 37.97% for males and females, respectively. The overall 1 : 1.17 sex ratio of males to females was significantly biased toward females (P < 0.05). There was no statistical difference in the mean condition factor (P > 0.05), with a value of 1.028 for the entire population. The growth performance index (Φ’) was 2.33 and 2.36 for males and females, respectively. Results were similar to other geographical areas, which suggests that a common fisheries management might be possible. 相似文献

Between September 2010 and June 2012, a total 291 (166 females and 125 males) blackchin guitarfish Glaucostegus cemiculus were captured by a commercial bottom trawler (F/V Coşkun Reis) in Iskenderun Bay, Turkey (northeastern Mediterranean Sea). The total length (L) and total weight (W) of the female and male guitarfish ranged between 32.0–165.0 cm and 88 g–16.68 kg, and 34.3–128.3 cm and 112 g–6.00 kg, respectively. Vertebral age estimates ranged from 0 to 8 years for females and 0 to 5 years for males. The growth models of von Bertanlanffy and Gompertz were fitted to the length at age data using the nonlinear regression method. Model selection was based on the values of the residual standard error and the Akaike's information criterion corrected for small sample size (AICC) associated with each fit. The von Bertalanffy growth model provided the best fitting growth curves for each sex with parameters reaching L∞ = 187.17 cm, K = 0.195 year-1, t0 = −1.38 year for females, and L∞ = 144.85 cm, K = 0.321 year-1, t0 = −1.13 year-1 for males. The W–L relationship parameters did not differ significantly between sexes, the estimated values of a and b were 0.0018 and 3.11, respectively. By using these values of a and b, and also respective estimates of L∞, the values of W∞ were obtained as 20.53 kg for females and 9.25 kg for males. The overall percentage ratios of females and males in the samples were 57% and 43% respectively. 相似文献

Specimens of Salmo trutta (n = 613) captured by local anglers in different rivers in Galicia (NW Spain) during the 2015 fishing season (15 March–15 August) were examined. In total 1479 adult helminths were recovered from the gastrointestinal tracts of 221 fish. Moreover, the microscopic observation of the sediments obtained, previous diphasic concentration, revealed the presence of helminth eggs in 485 trout specimens. The following species were identified by morphological and molecular analysis: Crepidostomum metoecus (8.97%) (Trematoda); Salmonema ephemeridarum (16.97%), Raphidascaris acus (9.46%) and Pseudocapillaria sp. (2.12%) (Nematoda); and Echinorhynchus truttae (8.48%) (Acanthocephala). The prevalence, mean intensity and mean abundance of each helminth species were determined in relation to size/age of the fish. The helminth infracommunity comprised a maximum of four species and the species richness was S = 5. The biological cycles of most of the helminth species recovered are dependent on benthic macroinvertebrate fauna, which, in turn, is influenced by the water quality. Therefore, any changes that take place in the aquatic ecosystem (due to anthropogenic activities or climate change) may be reflected in the helminth composition. 相似文献

Randall’s threadfin bream, Nemipterus randalli, first recorded in Iskenderun Bay in Turkey in 2008, seems to have increased in the region. The species, widespread in the western Indian Ocean and with a rapid expansion, appears to have migrated to the bay via the Red Sea. Although its presence in the region has been published, there has been little or no information as to age and growth parameters of this Lessepsian migrant in its new habitat. The present study aims to determine the basic age and growth parameters of the species colonized in the region. A total of 379 collected individuals were studied from November 2007 to October 2008. Total specimen lengths ranged from 4.80 to 21.50 cm, and weights from 1.10 to 138.36 g. Maximum age was 3 years for both sexes. The length–weight relationship was described as W = 0.0011 × L3.061 (r2 = 0.982). The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were: L∞ = 34.96 cm; K = 0.214 year?1; t0 = ?1.244 year for the entire population. Age and growth of pearly razorfish Xyrichtys novacula (Labridae) were determined in specimens caught on sandy bottoms by surrounding nets and lines (depth range 5–30 m) between January 2000 and December 2002. The study location was in the central Mediterranean Sea. For this purpose the annual growth increments (annuli) in sagittae were analysed. A total of 470 individuals of X. novacula, ranging from 49 to 200 mm TL (total length), were examined. Conversion between total length and standard length was calculated and represented by the relationship: . Edge analysis on otoliths was carried out to validate seasonality deposition. Seven age‐classes were determined from 0+ to 6+. The linear relationship between maximum otolith length (OL) and TL was summarized in the equation . The estimated parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth function were L = 175.05 mm, k = 0.80 year?1, t0 =?0.73 years and the growth performance index calculated as (Φ = 2.39). Fish specimens were captured by a commercial bottom trawler at a depth of 50–80 m from Iskenderun Bay (Hatay, Turkey) between December 2017 and May 2018. The bottom trawl gear used was equipped with a 44 mm stretched mesh size net at the cod-end. Blind side and eyed side otolith lengths (OL), otolith breadths (OB) and otolith weights (OW) were measured from each specimen to the nearest 0.001 mm and 0.0001g respectively. A total of 110 fish (43 females and 67 males) were collected. Total length ranged from 20.8 to 28.2 cm and 68.0 to 166.1 g (males) and 21.1 to −28.5 cm and 74.5 to 201.4 g (females). The coefficients of determination between fish weight and otolith weight, and total length and otolith weight (sexes combined) were found as R2 = .7694 (0.77) and R2 = .6274 (0.63), respectively. A moderate positive relationship between the total length-otolith dimensions, and fish weight-otolith dimensions, was also demonstrated. 相似文献

Population dynamics of 1482 specimens of painted comber, Serranus scriba (Linnaeus, 1758), caught in the Trogir Bay area (eastern mid‐Adriatic) from June 2001 to May 2002 were studied to provide information on age, growth, length–weight relationship, mortality and exploitation rate of the species’ stock. We studied the female reproductive pattern of Callinectes sapidus, which was introduced to the Mediterranean in the 20th century. We assessed female size at first maturity, fecundity, and fecundity relationship to size in Iskenderun Bay, eastern Mediterranean, Turkey. Samples were collected between July 2014 and June 2015 using bottom trawling at depths ranging from 1 to 50 m. A total of 322 crabs were caught of which 308 (95.7%) were females including 116 ovigerous ones. The minimum carapace width of the mature females was 39.1 mm and the mean carapace width 123.8 mm. The carapace width of ovigerous females varied between 95.1 and 144.5 mm, with a mean of 120.3 mm. The highest number of ovigerous females was observed in July and August. Mean fecundity was 1.91 million (667,950–4,669,853) eggs per female. A weak positive linear relationship between fecundity and carapace width was noted, as well as a high correlation with total egg weight. In the eastern Mediterranean, maturity sizes of females were smaller than those in the native region of the species. 相似文献

The presence of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) in the Black Sea, albeit sparse, has been known for many years. In recent years, it has been encountered in fishing nets, most commonly as by‐catch. In this study conducted in the southern Black Sea (Ordu) region, three female individuals were caught in trammel nets on October 9, 2017, and the largest individual was found to have a total length of 61.4 cm, a weight of 3080.6 g, and a gonad weight of 115.59 g. The age, growth, reproduction, and feeding of longnosed skate (Dipturus oxyrinchus) were studied using 179 specimens from the Saros Bay (North Aegean Sea) between March 2005 and December 2007. Composition was 49.7% females and 50.3% males. Total length of females ranged from 14.9 to 100 cm (disc width, 9.8–65 cm), and of males from 15.2 to 86.5 cm (disc width, 10–57.5 cm). Total length‐weight and disc width‐weight relationships are described by the equations W = 0.0008*TL3.35 and W = 0.0043*DW3.29, respectively. The age data, derived from vertebrae readings, were used to estimate the growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation: L∞ = 256.46 cm, K = 0.04 year?1, t0 = ?1.17year. Relative growth and the reproductive cycle of the date mussel Lithophaga lithophaga were studied from September 2002 to October 2003 in the Bizerte Bay (Northern Tunisia). Relationships between shell length and shell width, shell height as well as volume-related variables (shell dry weight, soft tissues dry weight and total wet weight) showed negative allometries in both sexes except for shell width in males (isometry) and shell height in both sexes (positive allometry). The sex ratio was unbalanced, within the length range of 6–48 mm, 49.43 % of the animals were males, 24.39 % females and 26.17 % sexually undifferentiated; within the length range of 49–92 mm, the respective values were 41.19, 52.7 and 6.1 %. Histological investigations as well as analyses of the condition index and the gonadosomatic index (CI and GSI) revealed the presence of a single reproductive cycle per year. Spawning occurred at the end of August and early September and was associated with a decrease in seawater temperature and salinity. A resting phase occurred in winter, coinciding with the lowest water temperatures. Histological examinations of the gonads of a total of 130 specimens revealed only two cases of hermaphroditism. The present study constitutes a useful baseline for a sustainable management of local wild stocks of L. lithophaga. 相似文献

The diet of juvenile bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) caught 2 to 8 miles off NE Sicily was investigated in order to improve knowledge of the species’ early life history. From 1998 to 2000, 107 specimens ranging from 63 to 495 mm (total length) were fished between July and November. Fishes were caught by trolling line or purse seine in a Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) area 2 to 8 miles offshore and as by‐catch of the purse‐seine sardine fishery 2 to 4 miles offshore. Most frequently found items in the T. thynnus stomachs were fishes (84.5%), crustaceans (54.6%) and cephalopods (50.5%). The largest contribution in weight was provided by cephalopods (47.3%) and fishes (46.5%), while the most abundant items were fishes (51%), cephalopods (27.2%) and crustaceans (21.1%). These results suggest that young‐of‐the‐year tuna have an essentially piscivorous diet, although invertebrate prey provide a substantial contribution to the food array. Prey show little relationship with FADs, although one prey species (blue runner, Caranx crysos) is associated with FADs in the Mediterranean. 相似文献
