Spatial environmental gradients can promote adaptive differences among conspecific populations as a result of local adaptation or phenotypic plasticity. Such divergence can be opposed by various constraints, including gene flow, limited genetic variation, temporal fluctuations, or developmental constraints. We focus on the constraint that can be imposed when some populations are found in locations characterized by low levels of an essential nutrient. We use scales of wild fish to investigate phenotypic effects of spatial variation in a potentially limiting nutrient—calcium. If scale calcium (we use “scalar” calcium for consistency with the physiology literature) simply reflects environmental calcium availability, we expect higher levels of scalar calcium in fish from calcium‐rich water, compared to fish from calcium‐poor water. To consider this “passive response” scenario, we analyzed scalar calcium concentrations from three native fish species (Lepomis gibbosus, Percina caprodes, and Perca flavescens) collected at multiple sites across a dissolved calcium gradient in the Upper St. Lawrence River. Contradicting the “passive response" scenario, we did not detect strong or consistent relationships between scalar calcium and water calcium. Instead, for a given proportional increase in water calcium across the wide environmental gradient, the corresponding proportional change in scalar calcium was much smaller. We thus favor the alternative “active homeostasis” scenario, wherein fish from calcium‐poor water are better able to uptake, mobilize, and deposit calcium than are fish from calcium‐rich water. We further highlight the importance of studying functional traits, such as scales, in their natural setting as opposed to only laboratory studies.  相似文献

Objective

Hypomagnesemia has been associated with an increase in mortality among the general population as well as patients with chronic kidney disease or those on hemodialysis. However, this association has not been thoroughly studied in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between serum magnesium concentrations and all-cause and cardiovascular mortalities in peritoneal dialysis patients.

Methods

This single-center retrospective study included 253 incident peritoneal dialysis patients enrolled between July 1, 2005 and December 31, 2014 and followed to June 30, 2015. Patient’s demographic characteristics as well as clinical and laboratory measurements were collected.

Results

Of 253 patients evaluated, 36 patients (14.2%) suffered from hypomagnesemia. During a median follow-up of 29 months (range: 4–120 months), 60 patients (23.7%) died, and 35 (58.3%) of these deaths were attributed to cardiovascular causes. Low serum magnesium was positively associated with peritoneal dialysis duration (r = 0.303, p < 0.001) as well as serum concentrations of albumin (r = 0.220, p < 0.001), triglycerides (r = 0.160, p = 0.011), potassium (r = 0.156, p = 0.013), calcium(r = 0.299, p < 0.001)and phosphate (r = 0.191, p = 0.002). Patients in the hypomagnesemia group had a lower survival rate than those in the normal magnesium groups (p < 0.001). In a multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis, serum magnesium was an independent negative predictor of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.075, p = 0.011) and cardiovascular mortality (HR = 0.003, p < 0.001), especially in female patients. However, in univariate and multivariate Cox analysis, △Mg(difference between 1-year magnesium and baseline magnesium) was not an independent predictor of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality.

Conclusion

Hypomagnesemia was common among peritoneal dialysis patients and was independently associated with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality.  相似文献

Background

Lower levels of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) are associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular complications in diabetic and non-diabetic individuals. The aim of the study was to longitudinally investigate the association between the use of 11 vitamins and minerals (vitamins E, C, D, B1, folic acid, carotenoids, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and selenium) and change in HbA1c levels over 10 years in non-diabetic individuals drawn from the general population.

Methods

Baseline data were available from 4447 subjects included in the population-based “Monitoring of Trends and Determinants in Cardiovascular Diseases” (MONICA) Augsburg S3 survey (1994/95). Follow-up data were derived from 2774 participants in the follow-up survey named “Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg” (KORA) F3 (2004/05). Vitamin/mineral intake from supplements and medications was assessed in a personal interview, where participants were asked to bring product packages of preparations that had been ingested during the last 7 days prior to the examination. Associations between regular vitamin/mineral intake amounts and HbA1c levels measured at baseline and follow-up were investigated using generalized estimating equation models. For carotenoids, analyses were stratified by smoking status.

Results

None of the investigated nutrients except for carotenoids was significantly associated with changes in HbA1c levels after 10 years. Regular intake of carotenoids from supplements and medications in amounts > 6.8mg/d (upper tertile) was associated with an absolute –0.26% (95% CI: –0.43 to –0.08) lower increase in HbA1c levels compared with no intake of carotenoids. An inverse association was observed in those who never smoked but not in (former) smokers.

Conclusion

Larger prospective and intervention studies in non-diabetic/non-smoking individuals are needed to confirm the results and to assess whether the observed associations between carotenoid intake and change in HbA1c levels are causal. If our results are confirmed, high carotenoid intake could be one strategy for the prevention of cardiovascular complications in non-diabetic people.  相似文献

The Framingham Risk Score (FRS) was developed to predict coronary heart disease in various populations, and it tended to under-estimate the risk in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Our objectives were to determine whether FRS was associated with cardiovascular events, and to evaluate the role of new risk markers and echocardiographic parameters when they were added to a FRS model. This study enrolled 439 CKD patients. The FRS is used to identify individuals categorically as “low” (<10% of 10-year risk), “intermediate” (10–20% risk) or “high” risk (≧ 20% risk). A significant improvement in model prediction was based on the −2 log likelihood ratio statistic and c-statistic. “High” risk (v.s. “low” risk) predicts cardiovascular events either without (hazard ratios [HR] 2.090, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.144 to 3.818) or with adjustment for clinical, biochemical and echocardiographic parameters (HR 1.924, 95% CI 1.008 to 3.673). Besides, the addition of albumin, hemoglobin, estimated glomerular filtration rate, proteinuria, left atrial diameter >4.7 cm, left ventricular hypertrophy or left ventricular ejection fraction<50% to the FRS model significantly improves the predictive values for cardiovascular events. In CKD patients, “high” risk categorized by FRS predicts cardiovascular events. Novel biomarkers and echocardiographic parameters provide additional predictive values for cardiovascular events. Future study is needed to assess whether risk assessment enhanced by using these biomarkers and echocardiographic parameters might contribute to more effective prediction and better care for patients.  相似文献

The geographic distribution, history, and ionic composition of habitats of Artemia franciscana are reviewed with emphasis on habitats with extreme values for ionic concentrations or ionic ratios: a) high-chloride waters (sea water salterns and Zuni and Great Salt Lakes); b) high-sulfate lakes in Saskatchewan (Chaplin and Little Manitou) and on the Okanogan plateau of Washington (Penley Lake complex); and c) high-carbonate habitats in Nevada (Fallon), in California (Mono Lake) and in the Nebraska sandhills (Jesse and Antioch).First-instar nauplii from populations representative of each of these three habitat clusters were tested for tolerance of potassium (0–5 g K l-1), magnesium (0–1.3 g Mg l-1), and calcium (0\2–0.6 g Ca l-1). Viabilities were recorded until survivors reached adulthood in pairs of simple defined synthetic culture media which differed in only one parameter. Eight populations showed four levels of tolerance of high potassium. Of four populations tested, all had high viability and fertility in media lacking potassium (above the level in the yeast diet). Artemia from sea water salterns or from Zuni, Chaplin, or Great Salt Lakes could not tolerate low levels of calcium (<20 mg l-1). This accounts for their inability to tolerate hypersaline high-carbonate waters. Mono and Fallon nauplii had high viability and fertility in media with low levels of calcium (0–10 mg l-1) but lacking magnesium. They could not survive for seven days, however, in low-calcium (< 10 mg l-1) media that contained moderate amounts of magnesium (1.3 g l-1), indicating that magnesium interferes with utilization of low levels of calcium.For each of the three cations, the range of concentrations encountered by each population in the habitat is narrower than the range affording high viability in laboratory media. As expected, the midpoints of the two ranges are sometimes similar. In many cases, however, the narrower range of ionic concentrations reported for lake water is at the end of the range affording high viability in the laboratory.  相似文献

The kinetics of inhibition of 5′-adenylic acid deaminase and creatine-ATP transphosphorylase by their respective antibodies are studied and rate constants of combination are ascertained. It is shown that the single substrate 5′-adenylic acid (AMP) of deaminase “protects” the enzyme against antibody inhibition. However, phosphate, a competitive inhibitor of the highly specific deaminase, enhances combination with antibody. With creatine kinase, however, addition of either of the substrates, alone or in combination with the required magnesium, each of which separately bind to the enzyme, does not prevent inhibition of the enzyme by its antibody. However, the “working” enzyme combined with all substrates is “protected” against antibody inhibition.  相似文献

One proposed mechanism of aluminum (Al) tolerance in plants is the release of an Al-chelating compound into the rhizosphere. In this experiment, two cultivars of snapbeans (Phaseolus vulgaris L. “Romano” and “Dade”) that differ in Al tolerance were grown hydroponically with and without Al under aseptic conditions. After growth in nutrient solutions for 8 days, aliphatic and phenolic organic acids were analyzed in the culture solutions with an ion chromatograph and a high pressure liquid chromatograph. The tolerant snapbean, “Dade”, when exposed to Al, exuded citric acid into the rhizosphere in a concentration that was 70 times as great as that of “Dade” grown without Al, and 10 times as great as that of “Romano” grown with or without Al. The sensitive cultivar, “Romano”, exuded only slightly more citric acid into the growing medium under Al-stress, compared to nonstressed conditions. Citric acid is known to chelate Al strongly and to reverse its phytotoxic effects. Also, citric acid has been shown previously to enhance the availability of phosphorus (P) from insoluble Al phosphates. Thus, one mechanism of Al-tolerance in snapbeans appears to be the exudation of citric acid into the rhizosphere, induced either by toxic levels of Al or by low P due to the precipitation of insoluble Al phosphates. Our experiment was not able to distinguish between these two factors; however, tolerance to both primary and secondary Al-stress injuries are important for plants growing in Al-toxic soils.  相似文献

The present study aimed to investigate the physiological response to CrossFit “workouts of the day” (WODs) based on two different structures of training session: 1) the “as many repetitions as possible” (AMRAP) “Cindy” and 2) the “round for time” (RFT) “Open 18.4” session. CrossFit athletes (11 men and 12 women) were divided into two groups: 1) one performing the WOD “Cindy” (GC) and 2) one performing the WOD “Open 18.4” (GO). Before, immediately after and 30 min after WODs, blood lactate (LAC), heart rate (HR) and systolic and diastolic blood pressures (SBP and DBP) were measured. A two-way ANOVA indicated differences in physiological responses between GC and GO. Both WODs increased HR to similar levels. Only GO significantly increased SBP immediately after exercise compared to the rest period (p < 0.01), with no difference to GC. GO presented higher levels of LAC immediately after exercise compared to GC (15.8 ± 4.9 mM [GO] vs 9.3 ± 2.3 mM [GC]; p < 0.01). LAC remained different between the groups 30 min after exercise (7.0 ± 3.9 mM [GO] vs 3.9 ± 0.9 mM [GC]; p < 0.01). The results suggest that the studied WODs do not differ in acute cardiovascular responses, but depend on different metabolic demands, with RFT structure relying more on glycolytic metabolism (indicated by greater LAC levels after exercise in GO). Calcium sparks in cardiac myocytes are brief, localized calcium releases from the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) believed to be caused by locally regenerative calcium-induced calcium release (CICR) via couplons, clusters of ryanodine receptors (RyRs). How such regeneration is terminated is uncertain. We performed numerical simulations of an idealized stochastic model of spark production, assuming a RyR gating scheme with only two states (open and closed). Local depletion of calcium in the SR was inevitable during a spark, and this could terminate sparks by interrupting CICR, with or without assumed modulation of RyR gating by SR lumenal calcium. Spark termination by local SR depletion was not robust: under some conditions, sparks could be greatly and variably prolonged, terminating by stochastic attrition–a phenomenon we dub “spark metastability.” Spark fluorescence rise time was not a good surrogate for the duration of calcium release. Using a highly simplified, deterministic model of the dynamics of a couplon, we show that spark metastability depends on the kinetic relationship of RyR gating and junctional SR refilling rates. The conditions for spark metastability resemble those produced by known mutations of RyR2 and CASQ2 that cause life-threatening triggered arrhythmias, and spark metastability may be mitigated by altering the kinetics of the RyR in a manner similar to the effects of drugs known to prevent those arrhythmias. The model was unable to explain the distributions of spark amplitudes and rise times seen in chemically skinned cat atrial myocytes, suggesting that such sparks may be more complex events involving heterogeneity of couplons or local propagation among sub-clusters of RyRs.  相似文献

To clarify further the beneficial effect of thiazide diuretics on recurrent calcium nephrolithiasis, the effect of short-term hydrochlorothiazide therapy on urine saturation with brushite (CaHPO4·2H2O), in vitro collagen calcification by urine, and urinary inhibitors of calcification was studied.In 22 patients with idiopathic calcium oxalate/phosphate stones the urine calcium excretion decreased, the urine magnesium excretion increased and the urine magnesium/calcium ratio increased significantly (P < 0.001) during hydrochlorothiazide therapy. Supersaturation of the urine with brushite, which was present in 19 of the 22 patients, was reduced significantly (P < 0.001) in all during thiazide therapy, and to the undersaturated range in 16. The ability of urine to calcify collagen in vitro also decreased significantly (P < 0.001) during thiazide therapy, a change that correlated significantly (r = 0.4513, P < 0.05) with the decrease in brushite saturation. The concentration of urinary inhibitors of calcification, as determined with an in vitro collagen calcification system, was decreased significantly (P < 0.01) by thiazide therapy.It was concluded that, in addition to decreasing urine calcium excretion and increasing urine magnesium excretion, thiazide diuretics decrease the urinary brushite saturation and thus may prevent spontaneous nucleation or crystal growth, or both, of calcium phosphate. The ability of thiazides to decrease collagen calcification in vitro suggests that they may also prevent crystal growth on a nidus of organic matrix. Thiazides do not appear to act by increasing the excretion of urinary inhibitors of calcification.  相似文献

This investigation was initiated to assess the following objectives: (1) to measure the total calcium and magnesium content in agricultural soil and sewage sludge from the Mediterranean coastal area of Motril (southeastern Spain); (2) to determine the pH values of indicated samples in order to evaluate first their influence on calcium and magnesium content, and second on levels of these minerals in the main crop (sugar cane: Saccharum officinarum) grown in the area; (3) to study the influence of industrial activities, first on calcium and magnesium cantents and pH values in agricultural soil, and second on calcium and magnesium concentrations present in sugar cane samples; (4) to check if the calcium and magnesium levels existing in agricultural soil exert any influence on corresponding element uptake by sugar cane plants. Calcium levels found in agricultural soil were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than those found in sewage sludge. Significant linear relationships between calcium and magnesium concentrations in agricultural soil and sewage sludge (p < 0.005) were found. Calcium concentrations found in soil from the industrialized area (39.2 ± 7.2 mg g?1) were significantly higher than those corresponding to the non-industrialized area (31.0 ± 6.6 mg g?1). The pH values determined in agricultural soil were significantly influenced by industrial activity (p < 0.05). The industrial activity and pH values measured in agricultural soil did not statistically influence either calcium or magnesium levels in the sugar cane plants. Calcium and magnesium concentrations existing in agricultural soil did not significantly influence the element uptake by sugar cane plants.  相似文献

Summary We describe the cannulated Rana pipiens, tadpole preparation that allows for stable recording in the tectum of the extracellular potential elicited by optic nerve stimulation. The largest components of the evoked tectal response consist of two previously identified waves and a major third, long-latency wave of long duration. These components were reversibly eleminated by perfusion of high magnesium/no calcium Ringer's solution or Ringer's solution containing cobalt chloride. In contrast, perfusion of high calcium/no magnesium Ringer's increased the amplitude and area of these components. We conclude that these components represent post-synaptic activity.Additionally, small, short-duration waves were identified as arising from the activity of retinal afferents. They consisted of a short-latency (3.1–7.6 ms) and a long-latency (12–23 ms) group. Waves belonging to both of these classes were still visible in both high magnesium/ no calcium Ringer's solution or Ringer's solution containing cobalt chloride and were unaffected by high calcium/no magnesium Ringer's. The average conduction velocities of the short- and long-latency groups matched the conduction velocities of, respectively, edge and convexity detectors in the adult. To provide tight spatiotemporal signaling control, the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase (PKA) holoenzyme typically nucleates a macromolecular complex or a “PKA signalosome.” Using the RIIβ holoenzyme as a prototype, we show how autophosphorylation/dephosphorylation of the RIIβ subunit, as well as cAMP and metal ions, contribute to the dynamics of PKA signaling. While we showed previously that the RIIβ holoenzyme could undergo a single turnover autophosphorylation with adenosine triphosphate and magnesium (MgATP) and trap both products in the crystal lattice, we asked here whether calcium could trap an ATP:RIIβ holoenzyme since the RIIβ holoenzyme is located close to ion channels. The 2.8Å structure of an RIIβp 2:C2:(Ca2ADP)2 holoenzyme, supported by biochemical and biophysical data, reveals a trapped single phosphorylation event similar to MgATP. Thus, calcium can mediate a single turnover event with either ATP or adenosine-5''-(β,γ-imido)triphosphate (AMP-PNP), even though it cannot support steady-state catalysis efficiently. The holoenzyme serves as a “product trap” because of the slow off-rate of the pRIIβ subunit, which is controlled by cAMP, not by phosphorylation of the inhibitor site. By quantitatively defining the RIIβ signaling cycle, we show that release of pRIIβ in the presence of cAMP is reduced by calcium, whereas autophosphorylation at the phosphorylation site (P-site) inhibits holoenzyme reassociation with the catalytic subunit. Adding a single phosphoryl group to the preformed RIIβ holoenzyme thus creates a signaling cycle in which phosphatases become an essential partner. This previously unappreciated molecular mechanism is an integral part of PKA signaling for type II holoenzymes.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the heart rate (HR) responses, the rate of perceived exertion (RPE), and the feeling during physical education schooling while performing traditional games activities compared to intermittent exercise. Nineteen pre-pubertal children randomly performed on different days two types of lessons (intermittent running mode vs. traditional Tunisian “Raqassa” game) lasting 12-min each. HR was continuously recorded during both lessons, while ratings of perceived exertion and Feeling values were recorded after the sessions. The mean HR value during the traditional game was significantly higher than during intermittent exercise (p<0.05). Conversely, the perceived exertion score was significantly higher after intermittent exercise than the traditional exercise game (p<0.05), showing that the higher cardiovascular strain of the game was perceived as “lighter” than the run. Simultaneously, the children''s Feeling was significantly higher after the traditional game than intermittent exercise (p<0.001), showing a higher satisfaction from playing with respect to running. Exercise based on the “Raqassa” traditional game could be used in pre-pubertal children as an alternative or as an additional method for suitable cardiovascular stimulation during physical education lessons with lower perceived exertion and better feeling compared to intermittent running.  相似文献

The cost of reproduction plays a central role in evolutionary theory, but the identity of the underlying mechanisms remains a puzzle. Oxidative stress has been hypothesized to be a proximate mechanism that may explain the cost of reproduction. We examine three pathways by which oxidative stress could shape reproduction. The “oxidative cost” hypothesis proposes that reproductive effort generates oxidative stress, while the “oxidative constraint” and “oxidative shielding” hypotheses suggest that mothers mitigate such costs through reducing reproductive effort or by pre‐emptively decreasing damage levels, respectively. We tested these three mechanisms using data from a long‐term food provisioning experiment on wild female banded mongooses (Mungos mungo). Our results show that maternal supplementation did not influence oxidative stress levels, or the production and survival of offspring. However, we found that two of the oxidative mechanisms co‐occur during reproduction. There was evidence of an oxidative challenge associated with reproduction that mothers attempted to mitigate by reducing damage levels during breeding. This mitigation is likely to be of crucial importance, as long‐term offspring survival was negatively impacted by maternal oxidative stress. This study demonstrates the value of longitudinal studies of wild animals in order to highlight the interconnected oxidative mechanisms that shape the cost of reproduction.  相似文献

Reports of primary isolated dystonia inherited in an autosomal-recessive (AR) manner, often lumped together as “DYT2 dystonia,” have appeared in the scientific literature for several decades, but no genetic cause has been identified to date. Using a combination of homozygosity mapping and whole-exome sequencing in a consanguineous kindred affected by AR isolated dystonia, we identified homozygous mutations in HPCA, a gene encoding a neuronal calcium sensor protein found almost exclusively in the brain and at particularly high levels in the striatum, as the cause of disease in this family. Subsequently, compound-heterozygous mutations in HPCA were also identified in a second independent kindred affected by AR isolated dystonia. Functional studies suggest that hippocalcin might play a role in regulating voltage-dependent calcium channels. The identification of mutations in HPCA as a cause of AR primary isolated dystonia paves the way for further studies to assess whether “DYT2 dystonia” is a genetically homogeneous condition or not.  相似文献

Heme and chlorophyll (Chl) share a common biosynthetic pathway up to the branch point where magnesium chelatase and ferrochelatase (FeCH) insert either magnesium for Chl biosynthesis or ferrous iron for heme biosynthesis. A distinctive feature of FeCHs in cyanobacteria is their C-terminal extension, which forms a putative transmembrane segment containing a Chl-binding motif. We analyzed the ΔH324 strain of Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803, which contains a truncated FeCH enzyme lacking this C-terminal domain. Truncated FeCH was localized to the membrane fraction, suggesting that the C-terminal domain is not necessary for membrane association of the enzyme. Measurements of enzyme activity and complementation experiments revealed that the ΔH324 mutation dramatically reduced activity of the FeCH, which resulted in highly upregulated 5-aminolevulinic acid synthesis in the ΔH324 mutant, implying a direct role for heme in the regulation of flux through the pathway. Moreover, the ΔH324 mutant accumulated a large amount of protoporphyrin IX, and levels of Chl precursors were also significantly increased, suggesting that some, but not all, of the “extra” flux can be diverted down the Chl branch. Analysis of the recombinant full-length and truncated FeCHs demonstrated that the C-terminal extension is critical for activity of the FeCH and that it is strictly required for oligomerization of this enzyme. The observed changes in tetrapyrrole trafficking and the role of the C terminus in the functioning of FeCH are discussed.  相似文献

The mineralization of 1.0 to 100 ng each of four complexing compounds—oxalate, citrate, nitrilotriacetate (NTA), and EDTA—per ml was tested in media prepared in accordance with equilibrium calculations by a computer program so that the H, Ca, Mg, Fe, or Al complex (chemical species) was predominant. Sewage microorganisms mineralized calcium citrate more rapidly than iron, aluminum, or hydrogen citrate, and magnesium citrate was degraded slowest. Aluminum, hydrogen, and iron oxalates were mineralized more rapidly than calcium oxalate, and magnesium oxalate was decomposed slowest. Sewage microorganisms mineralized calcium NTA but not aluminum, magnesium, hydrogen, or iron NTA or any of the EDTA complexes. Pseudomonas sp. mineralized calcium and iron citrates but had no activity on hydrogen, aluminum, or magnesium citrate. Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes mineralized calcium, iron, hydrogen, and aluminum citrates but had little activity on magnesium citrate. Pseudomonas alcaligenes used calcium, iron, hydrogen, and aluminum oxalates readily, but it used magnesium oxalate at a slower rate. Listeria sp. destroyed calcium NTA but had no effect on hydrogen, iron, or magnesium NTA. Increasing the Ca concentration in the medium enhanced the breakdown of NTA by Listeria sp. The different activities of the bacterial isolates were not a result of the toxicity of the complexes or the lack of availability of a nutrient element. NTA mineralization was not enhanced by the addition of Ca to Beebe Lake water, but it was enhanced when Ca and an NTA-degrading inoculum were added to water from an oligotrophic lake. The data show that chemical speciation influences the mineralization of organic compounds by naturally occurring microbial communities and by individual bacterial populations.  相似文献

Antigenic compositions of slowly sedimenting dengue-2 hemagglutinin (SHA) and soluble complement-fixing antigen (SCF) were compared with the virion (rapidly sedimenting hemagglutinin, RHA) by radioimmune precipitation (RIP), RIP inhibition, kinetic neutralization, and neutralization blocking tests with the use of hyperimmune mouse ascitic fluids. RHA and SHA were unable to inhibit completely the RIP of each other by anti-RHA, and neutralization by anti-RHA was not blocked by SHA. This indicated that SHA is serologically related, but not identical, to RHA. SHA differed from RHA in that SHA lacked the “core” polypeptide but contained the two envelope polypeptides. In addition, SHA contained a polypeptide with a molecular weight of 16,500 daltons and a suggestion of several other proteins. These data, when considered with other evidence, suggest that SHA is a special form of “incomplete virus.” SCF was unable to inhibit the RIP of SHA or RHA or to block neutralizing antibodies. Further, anti-SCF did not neutralize RHA or precipitate significant levels of SHA or RHA. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis separated SCF from structural polypeptides by molecular size. This evidence suggests that SCF is a nonstructural antigen.  相似文献

Deficient or excessive levels of blood trace elements can be an adverse factor in human and animal pregnancy. The aim of this study was to investigate possible differences in the levels of serum magnesium, calcium, copper, and zinc in preeclamptic and healthy pregnant women. Samples were collected from 30 preeclamptic (PE) and 30 healthy pregnant (HP) women. The serum copper concentration was significantly lower in the PE group by 68% (p<0.0001) when compared to the healthy controls. The serum zinc and calcium were 43% and 10% lower in the PE women, respectively (both with p<0.0001), whereas the magnesium concentration showed nonsignificant differences between the two groups. Measurement of these elements may be useful for the early diagnosis of a preeclamptic condition.  相似文献
