Govindjee, the founding editor of the Historical Corner of Photosynthesis Research, invited me 3 years ago to tell the story of why I left Melvin Calvin’s laboratory in the mid 1950s long before the 1961 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Calvin for the path of carbon in photosynthesis. I have already written my scientific perspective on this topic (see Benson (Photosynth Res 73:29–49, 2002); also see Bassham (Photosynth Res 76:35–52, 2003) as he was also a major player in this research). Here, I present my recollections of my last days in the old radiation laboratory (ORL) at Berkeley, California. References have been added by Govindjee for the benefit of the readers.  相似文献

Area of bamboo forest (Phyllostachys praecox) has rapidly increased in southern China during the last 20 years due to its high economic value. Aims of this study were to analyse the temporal and spatial variations of soil organic matter (SOM) in heavily winter mulched bamboo stands and to estimate potential for carbon sequestration. Total of 60 soil profiles with 0–15 years of bamboo plantation were sampled from three towns in Lin’an County. Results showed that with increased plantation years, SOM decreased slightly at the beginning (1–5 years), and then rose up steadily. Based on the average of the three locations, the highest SOM content of 75.82 g/kg was the surface layer (0–10 cm) of the 15 years. As plantation year increased, the variation of SOM in the surface layer (0–10 cm) was represented by a parabolic shape, and in the second layer (10–20 cm), it was a similar mode, but less vigorous. Soil organic carbon (SOC) storage significantly increased during 5 to 15 years after it reached full production, and the calculated annual SOC increment in 0–40 cm soil profile was about 6.3 t C/ha/year. Therefore, extended Phyllostachys praecox forests can be considered as one option for countering CO2 emissions and regional climate change.  相似文献

In the present study, we used the Comet assay to estimate basal DNA damage in three distinct populations aged 5–10, 40–50, and 60–70 years old. The DNA damage induced by hydrogen peroxide and γ-irradiation in the lymphocytes of these populations, as well as their repair activity, was also studied. Finally, we measured apoptosis and necrosis after the effect of these agents. Our results indicate that the older population (60–70 years old) showed higher basal levels of DNA damage and was more sensitive to the effects of the DNA-damaging agents than the adult one (40–50 years old), who, in turn, was more sensitive than the younger population (5–10 years old). A decline of the repair efficiency with age to the DNA damage induced by the two agents was also observed. Apoptosis and necrosis were also affected by age.  相似文献

The human/animal heart, comprised of cells called “myocytes” is an incredible organ that to remain beating must be fueled constantly via the hydrolysis of adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP). Deriving most of its ATP from mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (ox phos), and a smaller amount from “glycolysis”, i.e., glucose conversion to pyruvate or lactate, the heart helps in the delivery of oxygen (via hemoglobin) to every organ/tissue in our body. Then, the empty (deoxy) hemoglobin returns to load more oxygen and the journey to tissues is repeated 24 h a day, year after year, until “death do us part”. To support this essential “pumping” process the heart must work constantly, i.e., 70–80 years (life expectancy in the U.S.). This is a remarkable feat when compared with one of our most costly people-made technologies, i.e., automobiles (cars). In the past century, it was rare to see the family car survive more than 10–15 years unless it had been subjected to motor replacement surgery. Most were laid to rest at a much earlier age. Now, in this new millennium should a brilliant car manufacturer succeed in constructing a car engine as efficient as the human heart, each family member requiring a car would need only one per life time. With this in mind, one of the major future “matters of the heart” is to keep it pumping, not only for the current 70–80 year life span but much longer. To do this depends on, among other matters, the two processes noted above, i.e., oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis. The former is strictly a mitochondrial process that works only in the presence of oxygen whereas glycolysis, dependent on mitochondrial bound hexokinase 2 (MB-HK-2), works either in the presence or absence of oxygen. In addition, the MB-HK 2 is anti-apoptotic and helps with other factors to retard cell death. Current estimates reveal that the human heart of an individual living 70–80 years will have undergone 2.5–3.0 billion beats, a feat that is energetically feasible only due to the heart cells’ (cardiomyocytes) large population of mitochondria with bound HK-2.  相似文献

We studied the nitrogen retention capacity of six peatland buffer areas constructed in forested catchments in southern and central Finland. The buffers (0.1–4.9% of the total catchment area) were either undrained mires or drained peatlands rewetted 4–7 years before the present study. The N retention capacity was studied by adding ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3–N) solution into the inflow waters of the buffers once (one area) or twice (five areas) during a period of 4–6 years. Except for the first N addition in one area, the three largest buffer areas (relative size > 1%) retained the added inorganic N almost completely; their retention efficiencies during the year of addition were >93% for both NO3–N and NH4–N. Two of the three small buffers (relative size < 0.25%) were also able to reduce inorganic N from the through-flow waters effectively; their retention capacities for inorganic nitrogen varied between 58 and 89%. However, one small buffer area had a retention capacity of only <20%. The factors contributing to efficient N retention were hydrological load during N addition, relative size of the buffer area, and its length, i.e. the distance between the inflow and outflow points. If there was any release of the added N, it mostly occurred within a relatively short-time period (<100 days) after the treatment. The buffer areas appeared to be efficient and long-term sinks for inorganic nitrogen because the release of N during the 2–4 years after N addition was minor.  相似文献

The honesty of animal communication is in the spot lights in the last 30 years. During most of this time the field was dominated by one explanation: Zahavi’s handicap principle (Zahavi, J Theor Biol 67:603–605, 1975; Grafen, J Theor Biol 144:517–546, 1990). Grose (Biol Philos 2011) embarks to explain both the success of the theory and the empirical difficulties that exist despite this success. While I wholeheartedly agree with the criticism offered by Grose and with almost all the claims he makes, the treatment of the issue is far from complete and it still leaves much to be explained. Accordingly, my commentary consist of six sections: in the first section I clear up some technical issues left unexposed, most importantly the role of strategic cost in handicap signalling; in the second section I relate this to empirical testing; in the next section I comment on the historical development of the handicap principle; in the fourth section I review the biological models that came up with conclusions that contradict the handicap principle; in the fifth section I discuss the reasons behind the success of the handicap theory; finally, in the last section I discuss the application of the handicap theory to anthropology and human sciences.  相似文献

With the aim of increasing knowledge of community structure, dynamics and production of ectomycorrhizal fungi, edible sporocarp yields were monitored between 1995 and 2004 in a Pinus sylvestris stand in the northeast zone of the Iberian Peninsula. A random sampling design was performed by stand age class according to the forest management plan: 0–15, 16–30, 31–50, 51–70 and over 71-years-old. Eighteen 150 m plots were established and sampled weekly every year from September to December. One hundred and nineteen taxa belonging to 51 genera were collected, 40 of which were edible and represented 74% of the total biomass. Boletus edulis, Lactarius deliciosus, Cantharellus cibarius and Tricholoma portentosum sporocarps, which are considered to be of high commercial value, represented 34% of the total production. B. edulis and L. deliciosus were the most remarkable and abundant species, and both were collected in more than 60% of the samplings. B. edulis fructified every year of the experiment; its mean production was 40 kg/ha and year and its maximum productivity was more than 94 kg/ha in 1998. The age class with the largest production of this taxa was the fourth (51–70 years), with 70 kg/ha. L. deliciosus only failed to fructify one autumn (2000); its mean production was almost 10 kg/ha and its maximum productivity close to 30 kg/ha in 1997. The maximum productivity of this species was found in the second (16–30 years) and fifth (71–90 years) stand age classes, with 18 and 16 kg/ha, respectively. Advances in this field can certainly offer new insights into factors affecting sporocarp production.  相似文献

The structure of the zooplankton community in an estuary adjacent to the Admiral álvaro Alberto Nuclear Power Plant at Angra dos Reis, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was studied from 2001 through 2005. At that time, the power plant had been operating for 20 years. The results were compared with a previous study in 1991–1993. The zooplankton was sampled 4 times a year, in vertical hauls using a 150 μm net, at two fixed points near the plant’s intake and discharge sites. Temperature, salinity, and chlorophyll a were measured. The water of Ribeira Bay is warm, with salinities typical of Coastal Water and more saline waters. Zooplankton density at the discharge site (Mean: 245,434 ind m−3, SD: 335,358 ind m−3) was higher than that at the intake site (Mean: 84,634 ind m−3, SD: 101,409 ind m−3). A total of 121 mesozooplankton taxa were recorded from 2001 to 2005. Copepoda constituted the most common taxon and comprised more than 57% of the total zooplankton, followed by cladocers and gastropod larvae. A seasonal zooplankton cycle was observed only during 2004; in other years, the plankton varied only between years. Overall mesozooplankton abundance at the discharge site was similar to levels reported from the inner zone of this estuary in 1991–1993. Surface temperature was the important factor structuring the zooplankton community at the discharge site. No effect on the mesozooplankton by passage through the condensers could be discerned, and no permanent negative influence on the plankton populations could be detected. Guest editors: U. M. While many factors affecting human health that will alter with climate change are being discussed, there has been no discussion about how a warmer future will affect man’s thermoregulation. Using historical climate data for an Australian city and projections for Australia’s climate in 2070, we address the issue using heat balance modelling for humans engaged in various levels of activity from rest to manual labour. We first validate two heat balance models against empirical data and then use the models to predict the number of days at present and in 2070 that (1) sweating will be required to attain heat balance, (2) heat balance will not be possible and hyperthermia will develop, and (3) body temperature will increase by 2.5°C in less than 2 h, which we term “dangerous days”. The modelling is applied to people in an unacclimatised and an acclimatised state. The modelling shows that, for unacclimatised people, outdoor activity will not be possible on 33–45 days per year, compared to 4–6 days per year at present. For acclimatised people the situation is less dire but leisure activity like golf will be not be possible on 5–14 days per year compared to 1 day in 5 years at present, and manual labour will be dangerous to perform on 15–26 days per year compared to 1 day per year at present. It is obvious that climate change will have important consequences for leisure, economic activity, and health in Australia.  相似文献

A full-length metallothionein-1(MT-1) cDNA was cloned from the Chinese mitten crab, Eriocheir sinensis, based upon the hepatopancreas cDNA library. The full-length cDNA contained a single 180 bp open reading frame that encoded a 59 amino acid protein. The deduced amino acid sequence was cysteine (Cys)-rich, with residues observed in patterns characteristic of other reported MTs: Cys–X–Cys, Cys–X–X–Cys, or Cys–X–X–X–Cys. Gene structure obtained via PCR yielded a 3816 bp gene, which was comprised of three exons and two introns arranged in a “3 + 2” pattern. The cloned 5′flanking region (1,735 bp) contained several predicted binding sites, which included MREs, AP-1, SP1, USF, GATA, HNF-1, and HSF. MT-1 mRNA expression analysis revealed that while levels were highest in the hepatopancreas, expression was abundant in testis and thoracic ganglia, moderate in intestine (P < 0.05), and weak in other tissues (P < 0.05). MT-1 mRNA expression exhibited reproductive variation in the male, with levels approximately tenfold greater in August, during seasonal gonadal maturation, compared to other times of the year. Cu2+ exposure via tank water (0–1 mg/l for 7 days) resulted in a dose-dependent bell curve response in MT-1 mRNA expression, with peak expression observed after exposure to 0.1 mg/l Cu2+. A time course experiment (0.1 mg/l Cu2+ over 9 days) revealed MT-1 mRNA expression peaked sharply on day 5 before gradually decreasing with prolonged exposure. In the present report, we provide sequence analysis of the first MT-1 gene cloned in E. sinensis, and evidence that its physiological and toxicological regulation is evolutionary conserved.  相似文献

This paper raises the general question of whether there are any national peculiarities that characterize the scientific and philosophical roots of Russian-language evolutionary developmental biology. The researchers and theories are surveyed which, with hindsight, have been crucial for the Russian tradition when it comes to general methodological principles and constituting concepts. Based on published works and archival documents the main concepts of the “founding fathers” of the Russian tradition with their “Western analogues” are compared. The focus is on A. O. Kowalevsky (1840–1901), I. I. Metschnikov (1945–1916), A. N. Sewertzoff (1866–1936), I. I. Schmalhausen (1884–1963) and the parallelisms between them and E. Haeckel (1834–1919), V. Franz (1883–1950), and C. H. Waddington (1905–1977). In addition, the problem of specific influences constituting the Russian-language context of the Modern Synthesis is addressed. The major thesis of this paper is that the very character of the Russian developmental biology and its intellectual environment predisposed a strong bias towards environmentalist interpretations and thus anticipated what we now call “ecological developmental biology”. This paper is an extended version of my talk delivered to the First and founding meeting of the European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology (EDD), 16–19 August (Prague, Czech Republic). The Fusarium diversity and the mycobiota associated with moldy wheat kernels from Santa Fe province, Argentine, was assessed. The wheat cultivated area in Santa Fe province is divided according to agrometeorological conditions into two zones: Zone I (north-central) and Zone II (south). The natural occurrence of Fusarium toxins BEA, FUP, DON and NIV was also determined. Cladosporium was the most abundant of the 19 genera identified, followed by Fusarium, Phoma and Alternaria. Zone II shows a predominance of F. graminearum and F. culmorum. In Zone I, DON was present in 13/32 samples (range 0.43–3.60 mg kg−1) and NIV in 6/32 samples (range 0.11–0.40 mg kg−1). In zone II, DON was found in 11/21 samples (range 0.57–9.50 mg kg−1) and NIV in 4/21 samples (range 0.10–0.60 mg kg−1). BEA and FP were not detected in both zones.  相似文献

I present a hypothesis suggesting that terrestrial biomes' productivity determines the size of the major organisms and plant physiognomy in them and consequently determines their trophic structure. I suggest a more comprehensive set of patterns over current hypotheses, which consider productivity alone. Based on my hypothesis, I predict that the number of trophic levels decreases with increasing productivity from four in hot deserts to two in productive grasslands and that there are three to four trophic levels in all types of forested biomes. I also suggest that productivity is the limiting factor for the number of trophic levels at the lower end of the terrestrial productivity gradient, herbivore size is the limiting factor at intermediate productivities, and plant physiognomy is the limiting factor in the high productivity range. This contradicts existing hypotheses that predict either an increase (Am Nat 118:240–261, 1981; Am Nat 155:703–723, 2000) or no change (Am Nat 142:379–411, 1993) in the number of trophic levels with the increase in biome productivity.  相似文献

The dynamics of phytoplankton biomass were studied in an Eastern Mediterranean semi-enclosed coastal system (Maliakos Gulf, Aegean Sea), over 1 year. In particular, chlorophyll a (chl a) was fractionated into four size classes: picoplankton (0.2–2 μm), nanoplankton (2–20 μm), microplankton (20–180 μm) and net phytoplankton (>180 μm). The spatial and temporal variation in dissolved inorganic nutrients and particulate organic carbon (POC) were also investigated. The water column was well mixed throughout the year, resulting in no differences between depths for all the measured parameters. Total chl a was highest in the inner part of the gulf and peaked in winter (2.65 μg l–1). During the phytoplankton bloom, microplankton and net phytoplankton together dominated the autotrophic biomass (67.2–95.0% of total chl a), while in the warmer months the contribution of pico- and nanoplankton was the most significant (77.5–93.4% of total chl a). The small fractions, although showing low chl a concentrations, were important contributors to the POC pool, especially in the outer gulf. No statistically significant correlations were found between any chl a size fraction and inorganic nutrients. For most of the year, phytoplankton was not limited by inorganic nitrogen concentrations. The dietary intake of zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), selenium (Se), and iodine (I) of 31 lactating Mexican–American women attending the Hidalgo County WIC program in Rio Grande Valley (RGV), Texas was estimated from 24-h dietary recall interviews. Milk samples were obtained from lactating mothers who had infants 3 months of age and younger. Milk samples were collected in two visits to assess change in breast milk composition after 1–3 months postpartum: group A—after 30–45 days and group B—75–90 days. Dietary intakes indicated that the study participants had significantly inadequate percent energy intakes than the DRI (Dietary Recommended Intakes) percent recommended kilocalorie values but protein intakes were substantially higher than the percent recommended values. The estimated percent Zn, Fe, Se, and I intakes were also significantly lower than the DRI percent recommended values. The lactating mothers consumed significantly less Zn, Se, and I when compared to the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) even though Fe intake was higher than the RDA value. Breast milk concentration of Zn, Fe, and Se were in agreement within the range of representative values for Constituents of Human Milk but I has significantly less concentration than the representative value. There was no statistically significant correlation observed between dietary intake and milk concentration of Zn, Fe, Se, and I. This study compares the estimated dietary intake of zinc, iron, selenium, and iodine to the concentration of these trace elements in the maternal milk of lactating women of Mexican–American heritage who attend the Rio Grande Valley WIC clinic.  相似文献

Sediments from Xuanwu Lake have been dredged in the past 3 years to improve the water quality, but methanogenesis should still exist in the newly settled sediment. Methane production, methanogens, and physiochemical parameters were detected in the surface sediments (0–5 cm) and/or vertical sediments (0–21 cm, segmented at interval of 3 cm). Methane flux at water–air interface varied among five detected sites. Principal component analysis showed that CH4 flux, content of water and the concentration of total nitrogen (TN), CH4 and organic matters (OM) weighed most heavily on the component I in surface sediments while different patterns were observed for vertical sediments. The copy number of the 16S rRNA gene for bacteria was lower in the surface sediment (0–6 cm) than that in deeper sediments (12–21 cm), while 16S rRNA genes of Archaea were almost evenly distributed in the vertical sediments. Representatives belonging to the orders Methanobacteriales, Methanomicrobiales, and Methanosarcinales were detected in all samples of the vertical sediments, except that no members of the Methanococcales were detected in the samples at 0–6 cm. The level of Methanobacteriales reached a highest density at 18.1 × 104 copies g−1 dry weight (dw) at 6–9 cm; for Methanosarcinales (76.89 × 106 copies g−1 dw) and Methanococcales (82.70 × 103 copies g−1 dw) at 12–15 cm, whereas for Methanomicrobiales (43.37 × 106 copies g−1 dw) at 9–12 cm. Methanosarcinaceae and Methanosaetaceae reached to their highest densities at 6–9 and 9–12 cm, respectively. These data provided useful information for better understanding the methanogenesis in the newly settled sediments of a recently dredged lake.  相似文献

Endogenous DNA damage levels were analyzed in relation to polymorphisms in genes encoding phase I detoxifying enzyme—CYP1A1, phase II detoxifying enzymes—GSTM1, GSTT1, GSTP1 and enzyme involved in nucleotide excision repair-XPD. The study group consisted of 220 healthy non-smoking volunteers; 90 men and 130 woman, 25–60 years old (44 ± 10 years). The level of DNA damage (% DNA in tail) was evaluated by alkaline comet assay. The genetic variants were determined by restriction fragment length polymorphism PCR. The highest level of DNA damage (6.7%) was found in carriers of both: AA variant of XPD gene and M1 null variant of GSTM1 gene. The lowest level of DNA breaks (3.7%) was associated with the genotype GSTP1-AA/GSTM1 (+).  相似文献

We examined the association between maternal age and chromosome 21 nondisjunction by origin of the meiotic error. We analyzed data from two population-based, case–control studies: Atlanta Down Syndrome Project (1989–1999) and National Down Syndrome Project (2001–2004). Cases were live born infants with trisomy 21 and controls were infants without trisomy 21 delivered in the same geographical regions. We enrolled 1,215 of 1,881 eligible case families and 1,375 of 2,293 controls. We report four primary findings. First, the significant association between advanced maternal age and chromosome 21 nondisjunction was restricted to meiotic errors in the egg; the association was not observed in sperm or in post-zygotic mitotic errors. Second, advanced maternal age was significantly associated with both meiosis I (MI) and meiosis II (MII). For example, compared to mothers of controls, mothers of infants with trisomy 21 due to MI nondisjunction were 8.5 times more likely to be ≥40 years old than 20–24 years old at the birth of the index case (95% CI = 5.6–12.9). Where nondisjunction occurred in MII, mothers were 15.1 times more likely to be ≥40 years (95% CI = 8.4–27.3). Third, the ratio of MI to MII errors differed by maternal age. The ratio was lower among women <19 years of age and those ≥40 years (2.1, 2.3, respectively) and higher in the middle age group (3.6). Lastly, we found no effect of grand-maternal age on the risk for maternal nondisjunction. This study emphasizes the complex association between advanced maternal age and nondisjunction of chromosome 21 during oogenesis. Species, varieties, and hybrids of Vitis are differently susceptible to feeding by the aphid Daktulosphaira vitifoliae (Fitch) (Hemiptera: Phylloxeridae). The differing levels of susceptibility were examined in Vitis riparia × V. rupestris cv. C-3309, V. vinifera × V. labrusca cv. Weiβe Amerikaner, and V. vinifera cv. Portugieser Weiβherbst by characterizing early subcellular changes to aphid feeding. We examined the fifth and sixth layers of mesophyll parenchyma between 3 and 48 h after introducing neonate nymphs of D. vitifoliae on to those leaves. In the susceptible variety C-3309, activated and metaplasied cells appeared in 3–6 h of feeding by D. vitifoliae and developed into nutritive tissue in the next 24–48 h. On the contrary, cells of the resistant variety Portugieser Weiβherbst accumulated phenolic materials indicating a hypersensitive response; those of Weiβe Amerikaner showed a mixed response of developing a nutritive tissue and a concurrent accumulation of phenolic materials especially in cells away from the nutritive tissue, indicating that this hybrid could tolerate D. vitifoliae. Galls developed on the leaves of C-3309 in 21 days, whereas no gall development occurred on the leaves of Portugieser Weiβherbst and Weiβe Amerikaner. D. vitifoliae nymphs introduced on the leaves of Portugieser Weiβherbst died in 3–4 days, whereas on the leaves of Weiβe Amerikaner, nymphs lived up to 21 days. Thus early subcellular changes in leaf tissues determined the feeding activity of nymphs on leaves and the susceptibility of plants to insect feeding.
Zusammenfassung  Bl?tter verschiedener Rebsorten reagieren unterschiedlich auf den Befall mit der Reblaus Daktulosphaira vitifoliae (Fitch). Hier wurde die Reaktion der Sorten Vitis riparia × V. rupestris cv. C-3309, V. vinifera × V. labrusca cv. Weiβe Amerikaner und V. vinifera cv. Portugieser Weiβherbst (kurz: C-3309, Weiβe Amerikaner und Portugieser Weiβherbst) verglichen, um die unterschiedliche Empfindlichkeit zu verstehen. Dazu wurden frühe subzellul?re Ver?nderungen der Blattgewebe in aseptischen Dualkulturen aus Vitis und D. vitifoliae charakterisiert. Da die Stechborsten der jungen Nymphen von D. vitifoliae bis in die fünfte oder sechste Mesophyllschicht von C-3309 eindringen, wurden Zellen dieser Schichten bei allen drei Rebsorten 3–48 Stunden nach Zugabe der Nymphen beobachtet. Bei der Sorte C-3309 erfolgte eine Differenzierung von aktivierten und metaplasierten Zellen 3–6 Stunden nach dem Befall. In den folgenden 24–48 Stunden entwickelten sich diese Zellen zu einem N?hrgewebe; somit erfolgte eine kompatible Reaktion. Im Gegensatz dazu zeigten die Zellen der Sorte Portugieser Weiβherbst eine hypersensitive Reaktion mit Akkumulation phenolischer Verbindungen. Zellen der Sorte Weiβe Amerikaner reagierten sowohl mit der Bildung von N?hrzellen als auch mit der Akkumulation phenolischer Verbindungen ausserhalb der N?hrzellen; dies ist ein Zeichen für Toleranz. Die Entwicklung typischer Gallen erfolgte in 21 Tagen ausschliesslich an den Bl?ttern der Sorte C-3309. Die frühen subzellul?re Ver?nderungen der Blattgewebe bestimmten somit die Frasst?tigkeit der Nymphen und die Empfindlichkeit der drei Rebsorten auf den Insektenbefall.

The Siberian chipmunk, Tamias sibiricus, was introduced into the suburban forest of Sénart in the late 1970s where it naturalised. Juvenile dispersal of this solitary ground-dwelling squirrel is not known, while it is an important component of the invasion process. From 2003 to 2007, mark–recapture techniques were used to determine how dispersal movements differed between year, cohort, sex and body mass. Distances moved were calculated between the location of first capture during the year of birth and the arithmetic centre of the trapping locations obtained the next year. Excluding heaviest individuals, e.g. 80 g, that must have already dispersed and thus lowered the estimation of averaged distance moved, our results shows that the dispersal distance in juvenile males (168 ± 24 m, n = 39) was greater than in females (83 ± 11 m, n = 66), with no effect detected for either year or cohort. Juveniles are thus involved in the spread of this ground squirrel, bearing in mind that movements estimated may have been underestimated due to the use of capture–mark–recapture methods on a limited trapping area.  相似文献
