Iris embryos were treated in several ways to study the cause of delayed germination. The results of this work indicate that a chemical inhibitor is present in the endosperm and mechanical inhibition of embryo growth also occurs. The mechanical inhibition reduces excised Iris embryo growth to the same extent as does the chemical inhibitor.  相似文献

Genetic variability of Iris setosa Pall. ex Link. was studied by the RAPD method. Plants from three different habitats were compared by 135 loci revealed with eight arbitrary primers. The three plant accessions all exhibited a high level of polymorphism, and each was characterized by different frequencies of polymorphic fragments, which probably reflected the geographic isolation of the analyzed populations. The absorption of quanta by rhodopsin leads to the contraction of frog iris muscle. The contractions reach a maximum after about 8 sec. in the light. When the light is turned off the irises relax exponentially with a half-time of about 6 sec. Membrane polarization is not necessary for the response but calcium movement and membrane permeability changes probably are. The response is not mediated by acetylcholine or epinephrine. The curves of log It vs. log t for constant response amplitude bend progressively upward away from a unit slope line at short times as larger response criteria are used because (a) light influences tension development over longer times and (b) the higher intensity, shorter duration flashes are less effective.  相似文献

The symboltr for the pearl factor, as proposed byBessmertnaja (1928), will be retained.A very similar color to pearl, but faintly yellow, is shown to accompany the factor for chocolate plumage color.No evidence for linkage oftr with the factorsS, C, oro has been detected.Unlike the chicken iris, the pigeon iris contains no carotenoid pigments. According to chemical tests it also contains no flavines of flavones, and the yellow pigment is not xanthine. Six novel alkylated p-Benzoquinones irisoquin (A-F) (1-2, 4-7) together with a known cytotoxic quinone, irisoquin (3) along with three known isoflavones, tectoregenin, iristectorin and irigenin were isolated from the rhizomes of Iris kumaonensis and characterized. We characterize the salinity stress response of Iris hexagona, a freshwater species, by measuring three putative osmolytes, betaine, proline, and dimethylsulphonio-propionate (DMSP) in plants after short (3 days) and long-term (4–5 months) exposure to NaCl. HPLC analyses show that untreated control leaves contained 2.1, 0.2 and 3.2 mg g−1 DW of betaine, proline, and DMSP, respectively, and establish the presence of these compounds in the Iridaceae. Within 4 days of salinity stress (200 mM NaCl) betaine, proline and DMSP increased significantly. Among vegetative tissues, the highest level of proline occurred in roots; betaine and DMSP were highest in leaves. Analyses of generative tissue (flowers and flower stalks) after long-term exposure showed the highest levels (>10 mg g−1 DW) of all examined compounds in petals but only proline and betaine increased with salinity. All three substances showed a basipetal gradient in flower stalks. Although the examined compounds responded to salinity, the osmometry of the sap indicated that they comprise less than 10% of the osmotically active solutes. The temporal and spatial changes in the distribution of the analyzed compounds indicate complex responses to salinity.  相似文献
