In the native range of Tradescantia fluminensis in SE Brazil surveys revealed a natural enemy biota attacking the plant that was rich in potential biocontrol agents for New Zealand (NZ), including nine fungi and 10 herbivorous insect species. Similar surveys in NZ, where T. fluminensis is an invasive exotic weed, revealed no specialist insect herbivores or pathogens. The Brazilian insect herbivores included leafmining, stemboring and gall-forming feeding guilds that were absent in NZ. Mean foliar damage levels per site on T. fluminensis were 7.8× higher for folivores in Brazil cf. NZ, and 21.2× higher for pathogens. The presence of rust pustules, or ‘brown lesions’, on leaves in Brazil was negatively associated with damage by folivores, perhaps indicating an antagonistic interaction. In contrast, damage by the white smut fungus, Kordyana sp., was not negatively associated with folivore damage. Mean dry biomass of T. fluminensis was significantly lower in Brazil (164 g m?2) cf. NZ (455 g m?2). In NZ, 85% of sites had biomass measures >200 g m?2 (the previously determined threshold above which native forest regeneration fails). In Brazil, only 27% of sites had biomass measures >200 g m?2. Among the insect herbivores, three chrysomelid beetles, Neolema ogloblini, Neolema abbreviata and Lema basicostata were prioritised as potential biocontrol agents. Their larvae cause potentially complementary damage to leaves, shoot-tips and mature stems, respectively. Several pathogens, including a rust, were rejected before we selected the Kordyana species. Host range testing of all four agents showed sufficient host-specificity for consideration for release in NZ. Neolema ogloblini and L. basicostata were field-released in NZ in 2011 and 2012, with the field-release of N. abbreviata due late 2012. An application to release Kordyana sp. in NZ has been made.  相似文献

It has been widely advocated that smoke–water application to topsoil can substantially improve restoration success by enhancing seed germination. This is despite few studies having tested the effects of smoke–water on seedling emergence in field-scale restoration trials. Here we report the effects of applying a commercially available smoke solution (Regen 2000®), at rates between 0 and 100 mL m 2, on jarrah forest sites being restored after bauxite mining in the southwest of Western Australia. Smoke solutions stimulated the seed germination of a range of species in laboratory experiments. In addition, smoke–water stimulated germination of Stylidium affine seeds sown directly into the first field experiment. However, apart from the effect on sown S. affine seeds, smoke–water application had no effect on subsequent seedling numbers, species richness or the relative proportion of seedlings in different growth-form categories in either of the two field experiments. These findings suggest that smoke–water application does not always ensure enhanced restoration outcomes.  相似文献

Spores and sclerotia are the main propagules that allow fungi to persist through unfavorable conditions and disperse into new environments. Despite their importance, very little is known about their longevity and dormancy, especially in ectomycorrhizal fungi. To assess the viability of ectomycorrhizal fungal spores in forest soil, we collected and buried non-sterile forest soil, in pots, in the field distant from an inoculum source. After 6 yr, a subset of this soil was assayed for viable spores by baiting the fungi with Bishop pine (Pinus muricata) seedlings. Our results show that the three most frequent colonizers in year 1 continued to colonize significant percentages of seedlings in year 6: Wilcoxina mikolae (77 %), Rhizopogon vulgaris (13 %) and Suillus brevipes (9 %). While three species that colonized low percentages of seedlings in year 1, Suillus pungens (1 %), Rhizopogon salebrosus (2 %), and Thelephora terrestris (5 %) were not recovered in year 6. Laccaria proxima, a species not seen in year 1, was recovered on a single seedling in year 6. This is the first report of long-term survival of S. brevipes and W. mikolae. Our results reveal a more complete picture of ectomycorrhizal fungal spore longevity in soil spore banks.  相似文献

Many naturally occurring plant volatile compounds are known for their anti-fungal properties. In this study, acetaldehyde and 2E-hexenal were chosen as prototype volatiles in order to investigate the use of volatile compounds for control of blemish pathogens in fresh-pack potato packaging. Pure cultures of the three main potato blemish pathogens, Pectobacterium atrosepticum (bacterial soft rot), Colletotrichum coccodes (black dot), and Helminthosporium solani (silver scurf), were used in the study. Pathogen cultures were exposed to the pure volatiles that were injected into the atmosphere of sealed jars for 4–8 days at 23 °C. Results showed that 2E-hexenal was the most effective of the two volatiles with 5 μL/L providing complete inhibition of growth for all three pathogens in vitro. Cytological studies showed that a concentration of 2.5 μL/L of 2E-hexenal was capable of inhibiting germination in both fungal pathogens. These results suggest that the primary mode of action of 2E-hexenal was inhibiting germination for fungi and suppressing bacterial growth. The quantities required to achieve pathogen inhibition are extremely low. This study suggests that these volatiles may be used to effectively manage potato postharvest blemish diseases in storage.  相似文献

Biological control of belowground stages of the black vine weevil Otiorhynchus sulcatus F. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in strawberries in cool temperate regions using entomopathogens is challenged by low temperatures during the periods when larvae are vulnerable to infections. In a laboratory study we tested six indigenous Norwegian isolates of entomopathogenic fungi (one Beauveria bassiana, three Beauveria pseudobassiana, and two Metarhizium brunneum; Ascomycota: Hypocreales) for their efficacy against O. sulcatus larvae at 6, 12, and 18 °C. At the lowest temperature only Beauveria spp. affected survival of O. sulcatus while all three fungal species reduced larval survival compared to the control treatment at 12 and 18 °C. Two of the Norwegian isolates, one B. pseudobassiana and one M. brunneum, were then evaluated for long-term persistence (>1 year) in the bulk soil and the rhizosphere soil of strawberries in a semi-field experiment. An exotic isolate of M. brunneum sharing origin with a widespread commercial biocontrol agent (F52/Met52 (Novozymes)) was included for comparison. All three isolates showed significantly higher abundances in the rhizosphere soil compared to bulk soil at 153, 366, and 471 days after inoculation, thus indicating rhizosphere competence for B. pseudobassiana. Notably, CFU levels for both Norwegian isolates were much higher than for the exotic M. brunneum isolate. Selection of locally adapted isolates may therefore be of importance when considering biocontrol strategies of belowground pests in strawberry production.  相似文献

Contamination of plants and seeds with microorganisms is one of the main problems in the production and distribution of various agricultural products, as well as raw herbal material for the preparation of herbal remedies. In targeting microbial contamination, among other bacteria, Bacillus species showed a significant capacity for biocontrol. The antifungal activity of 14 isolates of Bacillus spp. against 15 fungal isolates from medicinal plants was examined utilizing a dual plate assay. The strongest and broadest antagonistic activity against all fungi tested was exhibited by isolates SS-12.6 and SS-13.1 (from a 43% to 74% reduction in fungal growth), while isolates SS-39.1 and SS-39.3 were effective against the fewest fungus species and also had the weakest antifungal activity. The effect of a crude lipopeptide extract (CLE) of Bacillus sp. SS-12.6 was similar to that achieved by a dual culture with isolate SS-12.6, confirming that the antagonism was the result of the antifungal activities of lipopeptides. In addition, essential oils of thyme (0.55 mg/mL) and savory (0.32 mg/mL) in various combinations with the CLE of SS-12.6 were tested for antifungal activity, and additive and synergistic effects for some of the fungi were obtained. When testing the effect of CLE, oils (0.40 mg/mL for thyme oil and 0.21 mg/mL for savory oil) and combinations in situ on marigold seeds, a reduction of total fungal infection without an adverse effect on germination was accomplished by 6-h treatments with CLE of SS-12.6 (85% reduction of fungal infection and 63% germination), supernatant from liquid culture of SS-12.6 (more than 90% reduction of fungal infection with 69% seed germination) and combinations of CLE and savory oil (77% reduction of fungal infection and 62% seed germination) and CLE with thyme and savory oils (about 75% reduction of fungal infection with 69% seed germination).  相似文献

The effects of aerosol smoke (AS), smoke-water (SW), potassium nitrate (KNO3), naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) on germination and seedling growth of Jatropha curcas were investigated. Seed coat removal accelerated water imbibition and germination occurred within 48 h. Seeds subjected to AS failed to germinate over a 90 day period. There were no significant differences in germination percentage between the treatments and untreated control (intact- and shelled-seed). However, shelled-seeds had the shortest mean germination time (MGT). Seedlings developed from treated seeds were planted in trays under shade house conditions and growth traits measured after 3 months. Soaking intact-seeds in SW, KNO3 and NAA (24 h) produced significantly heavier and longer seedlings, which resulted in higher vigour indices (VI) compared to the control treatments. These results provide empirical evidence of the stimulatory effect of SW, KNO3 and NAA on J. curcas seedling growth and vigour and the continuation of the effect over time. The approach of treating intact-seeds of J. curcas with plant growth substances prior to planting will help in producing healthy seedlings and possibly improve crop productivity.  相似文献

The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is located in the ‘Third Pole’ of the world, characterized by a harsh environment. Despite this, the alpine meadow ecosystem have developed over a wide area but serious grassland degradation is threatening the ecological environment on the Plateau. Recruitment of new plants to the population, via germination and establishment, is vital to plant community survival. Previous work on the seeds in this area has mainly focused on community-wide germination strategies, seed germination characteristics and their correlations with seed size and seed mass. However, there have been no studies on the effects of soaking in rumen contents on the plant seed germination characteristics of alpine meadow species. The present study had two main objectives: (i) to determine the effect of fresh rumen content from yaks on seed germination characteristics and seedling growth of species common to the eastern Tibetan Plateau alpine meadow, and (ii) to develop an effective method to enhance seed germination. Seeds of 11 common species were collected together with fresh rumen content from three yaks that grazed there. Seed germination tests were conducted after they had been soaked in rumen content for one of six soaking periods (12, 24, 36, 48, 60 or 72 h). The seeds were incubated under natural light conditions of 8 h light at 25 °C and 16 h darkness at 15 °C, for the germination period of 34 days. The results showed that seed germination and seedling growth were affected by soaking time, seed coat completeness and seed type. After soaking in rumen content, the germination percentages of scarified (peeled or with the seed coat cut through) seeds of some species (true seeds Oxytropis ochrocephala and Medicago ruthenia var inschanica, nutlet Carex enervis, achenes Anemone rivularis and Polygonum sibiricum) and complete seeds of C. enervis, and A. rivularis were improved but the duration of soaking was also important. Seed germination of caryopsis Achnatherum inebrians (a toxic grass) was significantly inhibited by any exposure to rumen fluids. Scarified seeds generally had higher germination percentages than complete ones after treatment, but with the increase in soaking time, germination percentages declined and scarified seeds were more sensitive to the treatment than the complete seeds. After soaking in yak rumen content, the germination indices of scarified M. ruthenia at 12 h treatment, O. ochrocephala and achene Rumex acetosa at 12–24 h treatment, nutlet Kobresia humilis at 24 h treatment, P. sibiricum at 24–48 h treatment, C. enervis at 12–48 h treatment and A. rivularis at 12–60 h treatment were significantly higher than the control (P < 0.05), while the germination indices of complete C. enervis seeds at 12 h and 36 h treatment, and A. rivularis at 12–60 h treatment were significantly higher compared with the control. The germination indices of other species gradually decreased with the increase in soaking time. We concluded that yak rumen digestion could enhance, inhibit or not affect seed germination and seedling growth of the alpine meadow species, which might influence seedling recruitment, interspecific competition, and the plant community structure of the eastern Tibetan Plateau alpine meadow. Overall, yak digestion has a positive effect on alpine meadow seed germination and seed dispersal.  相似文献

A thermogradient apparatus was used to investigate the effect of variable dew temperatures on infection of green foxtail by the indigenous pathogen Pyricularia setariae (Ps) and the exotic pathogens Drechslera gigantea (Dg), and Exserohilum rostratum (Er) from the southern USA that showed bioherbicide potential against several grassy weeds. This device is capable of creating multiple diurnal temperature cycles, mimicking daily temperature fluctuations that occur under field conditions. Seven temperature regimes, i.e., 15/10 °C, 20/5 °C, 20/15 °C, 25/10 °C, 25/20 °C, 30/15 °C, and 30/25 °C (maximum/minimum), were used with temperature cycling from maximum to minimum and then back up to maximum in a 24 h period. Ps and Dg were much more virulent than Er on green foxtail, resulting in higher levels of disease and weed control. Dg was little affected by the dew temperatures in terms of plant infection and was more efficacious than Ps under cooler dew temperatures (15/10 °C and 20/5 °C), causing twice as much disease. This greater amount of disease coincided with higher conidial germination, appressorial formation and infection-hypha frequency by Dg at the lower temperatures. The efficacy of Ps improved as dew temperature increased, accompanied by a higher percentage of germination and more frequent appressorial production. Dg caused severe disease 2 d after inoculation whereas Ps required 4 d to initiate disease symptoms. These observations suggest that Dg is a superior candidate than Ps for green foxtail control on the Canadian prairies.  相似文献

Invasions by alien plants significantly affect native biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. We conducted a 5-year field experiment to investigate potential effects of the annual invasive plant Impatiens glandulifera on both the native above-ground vegetation and the soil seed bank in a deciduous forest in Switzerland. Eight years after the establishment of I. glandulifera, we set up plots in patches invaded by the alien plant, in plots from which the invasive plant had been manually removed and in plots which were not yet colonized by the invasive plant. We examined plant species richness, diversity and plant species composition in the above-ground vegetation and soil seed bank in all plots one year and five years after the initiation of the experiment. The 36 plots (3 plot types × 6 replicates × 2 sites) were equally distributed over two forest sites. Neither the native above-ground vegetation nor the soil seed bank was influenced by the presence of I. glandulifera one year after the start of the field experiment. After five years, however, plant species richness of both the above-ground vegetation and the soil seed bank was reduced by 25% and 30%, respectively, in plots invaded by the alien plant compared to plots from which I. glandulifera had been removed or uninvaded plots. Furthermore, plots invaded by the alien plant had a lower total seedling density (reduction by 60%) and an altered plant species composition in the soil seed bank compared to control plots. Our field experiment indicates that negative effects of the annual invasive plant on the native above-ground vegetation and soil seed bank of deciduous forests become visible with a delay of several years.  相似文献

Varroa mite is the most destructive pest to bee colonies worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, preliminary data indicated high infestation levels in the exotic honeybee colonies; such as Apis mellifera carnica and Apis mellifera ligustica, compared to native honeybee subspecies Apis mellifera jemenitica, which may imply higher tolerance to Varroasis. In this study, fertility and reproductive rate of Varroa mite, Varroa destructor, in capped brood cells of the native honeybee subspecies were investigated and compared with an exotic honeybee subspecies, A. m. carnica. Mite fertility was almost alike (87.5% and 89.4%) in the native and craniolan colonies respectively. Similarly, results did not show significant differences in reproduction rate between both subspecies (F = 0.66, Pr > F = 0.42). Number of adult Varroa daughters per fertile mother mite was 2.0 and 2.1 for native and craniolan honeybee subspecies respectively. This may indicate that mechanisms of keeping low infestation rates in the native honeybee colonies are not associated with Varroa reproduction. Therefore, potential factors of keeping lower Varroa infestation rates in native honey bee subspecies should be further investigated.  相似文献

Brazilian peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi), native to South America, is invading many ecosystems in south and central Florida. The defoliating tortricid moth Episimus unguiculus Clarke was selected as a potential biocontrol agent of Brazilian peppertree in Florida. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of different levels of herbivore damage on growth and biomass allocation of Brazilian peppertree seedlings in the laboratory. Three treatments were established: (1) no herbivory (control), (2) low herbivory (~4 larvae/plant), and (3) high herbivory (~12 larvae/plant). High levels of herbivory significantly reduced the number of leaflets, plant height, foliar biomass, foliar relative growth rate (RGR) and shoot: root ratio of Brazilian peppertree seedlings. Moreover, plants were not able to recover from herbivory after 2 months. The performance of Brazilian peppertree subjected to low herbivory levels did not differ from the control plants (no herbivory). The potential effectiveness of the biocontrol agent E. unguiculus to suppress this noxious weed is examined.  相似文献

The interaction between Meloidogyne incognita (race 2) and Rhizoctonia solani (AG 4) in a root rot disease complex of green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) was examined in a greenhouse pot experiment. Three week-old seedlings (cv. Contender) were inoculated with the nematode and/or the fungus in different combinations and sequences. Two months after last nematode inoculation, the test was terminated and data were recorded. The synchronized inoculation by both pathogens (N + F) increased the index of Rhizoctonia root rot and the number of root galls; and suppressed plant growth, compared to controls. However, the severity of root rot and suppression of plant growth were greater and more evident when inoculation by the nematode preceded the fungus (N  F) by two weeks. Nematode reproduction (eggs/g root) was adversely affected by the presence of the fungus except by the synchronized inoculation. When inoculation by nematode preceded the fungus, plant growth was severely suppressed and roots were highly damaged and rotted leading to a decrease of root galls and eggs.  相似文献

Woody vegetation dynamics and Dracaena cinnabari regeneration have been studied for five years in the conditions of Socotra Island. Woody plants were measured regularly inside and outside the exclosure area, and the growth and survival of D. cinnabari seedlings were observed. In the exclosure of about 1000 m2 a total of 49 species were identified, including 23 endemics, growing in the average density of 3.82 specimens per m2. The fenced area was overgrown relatively rapidly by dense grass cover – reaching approx. 2.7 t/ha. Species growth dynamics inside and outside the exclosure shows that grazing had a marked impact, leading to the elimination of trees and shrubs. All grazed species grew noticeably in the exclosure, in the average of 50 cm in 5 years. D. cinnabari as the dominant flagship species of Socotra has been studied with regards to regeneration dynamics. Observations indicate that probability of its seedlings survival increases with their age. No seedlings germinated from the seeds sown in the experiment, however, outplanted seedlings performed relatively well. Field observations show that D. cinnabari seed germination is triggered when the seed reaches a protected micro-habitat with a developed humus layer and high relative humidity in the soil lasts for at least two days.  相似文献

The effects of seed pretreatment by magnetic field (MF) on the impacts of ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation were tested using cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seedlings in phytotron. Soaked cucumber seeds were placed in MF of various strengths (0, 0.2 and 0.45 T). After germination the seeds were sowed in homogeneous garden soil and grown, then cucumber seedlings were exposed to 0 (as control) and 3.5 kJ m−2 UV-B irradiation, respectively. Some effects of UV-B radiation and MF-pretreatment as well as their combination were investigated. MF-pretreatment increased seed germination rate, seedling growth and development, although also increased lipid oxidation and ascorbic acid contents. On the other hand, our results provided evidence that seed MF-pretreatment increased the sensitivity of cucumber seedlings to UV-B radiation. The seedling growth and development were significantly decreased by the combination of UV-B irradiation and MF-pretreatment. This combination also increased oxidative pressure and decreased actual quantum yield of PS II. Leaf UV-B absorbing compound was increased by MF-pretreatment or UV-B irradiation, whereas their combination significantly decreased it. These results suggested that the harmful effects of combination were partially due to the inhibition of secondary metabolism.  相似文献

Biomass production, pattern of nodulation, nutrient uptake, net photosynthetic rate (Pn), leaf temperature (Tleaf), leaf nitrate reductase (NR) activity and free proline of Dalbergia sissoo seedlings planted in containers with 120 kg soil were studied under different water stress levels to assess the productive potential of the species in dry areas. Seedlings were irrigated at 20 mm (W1), 14 mm (W2), 10 mm (W3), 8 mm (W4) throughout the experimental period to maintain the respective treatment up to the lowest soil water content of 7.43%, 5.64%, 4.30% and 3.23%, respectively. There was a treatment (W5) in which seedling were irrigated once to −0.03 MPa and left without re-irrigation. Decreased irrigation level resulted in lowering of leaf water potential (LWP), net photosynthetic rate (Pn), total number of root nodules and nodule dry mass and nitrogen uptake in the seedling. Pn, leaf nitrate reductase (NR) activity and seedling biomass were highest in W1 indicating a positive relations of NR activity with CO2 assimilation and biomass production. The decrease in Pn, leaf NR activity and LWP was sharp at W3 onwards. Monthly changes in the values of Pn, Tleaf and NR activity indicate environmental effect on these physiological variables. Proline was detected only in the seedlings of W3, W4 and W5 treatments after February and was highest in the seedlings of W5 treatment. The study suggests that severe water deficit adversely affect physiological and biochemical processes that resulted in reduced growth, nutrient uptake and biomass productivity in D. sissoo seedlings. Re-irrigation above W3 level is recommended for this species.  相似文献

In bromeliads, nothing is known about the associations fungi form with seeds and seedling roots. We investigated whether fungal associations occur in the seeds and seedling roots of two epiphytic Aechmea species, and we explored whether substrate and fungal associations contribute to seed germination, and seedling survival and performance after the first month of growth. We found a total of 21 genera and 77 species of endophytic fungi in the seeds and seedlings for both Aechmea species by Illumina MiSeq sequencing. The fungal associations in seeds were found in the majority of corresponding seedlings, suggesting that fungi are transmitted vertically. Substrate quality modulated the germination and growth of seedlings, and beneficial endophytic fungi were not particularly crucial for germination but contributed positively to survival and growth. Overall, this study provides the first evidence of an endophytic fungal community in both the seeds and seedlings of two epiphytic bromeliads species that subsequently benefit plant growth.  相似文献

Malcolmia littorea (Brassicaceae) is a threatened species growing in the coastal sandy dunes of the west-Mediterranean basin. In this study, the seed germination and seedling emergence requirements of this species were investigated in the only remaining native population in Italy. The highest germination percentage was achieved in darkness with scoring under safe green light at 5–10 °C. Seedling emergence was highest when seeds were buried between 1 and 10 mm in depth. The results suggest that germination and seedling emergence are adapted to Mediterranean coastal habitats by employing a common mechanism of light-inhibited germination and by germinating at cooler temperatures before the onset of the summer drought. Seeds were also collected from plants cultivated at a botanical garden and from plants reintroduced by sowing or by transplanting. For those populations, germination was maximal between 10–25 °C, suggesting that the thermal germination behaviour may be affected by the maternal environment of seed production within one generation. It is suggested to use seeds produced in the same environment to which they will be used for the reintroduction of this species.  相似文献

Sand dune ecosystems are one of the areas most affected by the introduction of invasive species which represents a threat for biodiversity conservation. Their invasion patterns and spread may depend on their salinity tolerance, besides other factors. To test this hypothesis, we investigated the effects of salt stress on seed germination and on the activity of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, CAT; ascorbate peroxidase, APX; peroxidase, POX; and glutathione reductase, GR) in two legume species, an invasive, Acacia longifolia (Andrews.) Willd., and a native, Ulex europaeus (L.), very common in the sand dunes of the coast of Portugal. Salt stress was induced by adding NaCl at different concentrations, 0, 50, 100 and 200 mM, for 15 days. Results showed that the highest germination percentages were obtained in distilled water (control) and that, with increasing salt concentration, seed germination was delayed and decreased in both species. Inhibition of germination was higher in the native species, only 3% of seeds germinated at 100 mM and no seeds germinated at 200 mM NaCl. In the invasive species, the reduction was higher at 200 mM NaCl (16%). Considering the coefficient of germination velocity, a decrease in both species with increasing NaCl concentration was observed. The CAT and GR activities decreased in A. longifolia with increasing salinity. In turn, APX activity significantly increased as NaCl concentration increased while the POX activities declined at the highest NaCl concentration. On the other hand, at 50 mM NaCl lower activity of CAT and APX and higher GR and POX were found in U. europaeus. In both species, protein content increased as NaCl concentration increased. In addition, it seems that APX activities play an essential role in the scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS). These results suggest that the seeds of the invasive legume A. longifolia are more tolerant to salinity than the native legume U. europaeus, and seem better equipped to handle the physiological stress of high salinity, which may contribute to its invasive ability in sand dunes.  相似文献

The suitability of Oxydia vesulia transpeneus (Cramer) (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) was assessed as a potential biological control agent of the invasive weed Brazilian Peppertree Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi. Larvae were collected in Brazil feeding on the plant in its native range and colonised in quarantine where life history and host range studies were conducted (27?±?2°C; 50RH). Development time from neonate to adults when fed Brazilian peppertree leaves was 48.0 (±2.2) days for females and 51.0 (±1.3) days for males. Larvae generally required five (occasionally six) instars to reach the adult stage. Females had greater pupal weights 1004.1 (±45.9) mg compared with males 668.5 (±19.7) mg. Larvae were tested on seven non-target plant species from Florida natives, ornamentals, to economic species. Larvae completed development on all but one of these valued plant species. These results suggest that the host range of O. vesulia is not sufficiently specific for release as a biological control against Brazilian peppertree in the USA.  相似文献
