In the first part of this work [1] the author presented the expression for so called adequate visual stimulus. This expression describing the change of relative space - time differences of light actions in different retinal points defines the conditions necessary for producing visual sensations. In this paper author makes a statement that the quality of visual sensation (the percieved colour) can be evaluated by integrating the expression for the adequate visual stimulus both in time and in space. The integration in space is fulfilled starting from the extreme periphery of the retina, which is usually illuminated by scattered light averaged over the whole visual field. Human visual system works in such a way that the light action in the extreme periphery plays a role of the unit for scaling of visual sensations.  相似文献

Açai, the fruit of a palm native to the Amazonian basin, is widely distributed in northern South America, where it has considerable economic importance. Whereas individual polyphenolics compounds in açai have been extensively evaluated, studies of the intact fruit and its biological properties are lacking. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to investigate the in vivo genotoxicity of açai and its possible antigenotoxicity on doxorubicin (DXR)-induced DNA damage. The açai pulp doses selected were 3.33, 10.0 and 16.67 g/kg b.w. administered by gavage alone or prior to DXR (16 mg/kg b.w.) administered by intraperitoneal injection. Swiss albino mice were distributed in eight groups for acute treatment with açai pulp (24 h) and eight groups for subacute treatment (daily for 14 consecutive days) before euthanasia. The negative control groups were treated in a similar way. The results of chemical analysis suggested the presence of carotenoids, anthocyanins, phenolic, and flavonoids in açai pulp. The endpoints analyzed were micronucleus induction in bone marrow and peripheral blood cells polychromatic erythrocytes, and DNA damage in peripheral blood, liver and kidney cells assessed using the alkaline (pH >13) comet assay. There were no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) between the negative control and the groups treated with the three doses of açai pulp alone in all endpoints analyzed, demonstrating the absence of genotoxic effects. The protective effects of açai pulp were observed in both acute and subacute treatments, when administered prior to DXR. In general, subacute treatment provided greater efficiency in protecting against DXR-induced DNA damage in liver and kidney cells. These protective effects can be explained as the result of the phytochemicals present in açai pulp. These results will be applied to the developmental of food with functional characteristics, as well as to explore the characteristics of açai as a health promoter.  相似文献

The innate preferences of inexperienced bumble bees, Bombus terrestris, for floral colour stimuli were studied using artificial flowers. The artificial flowers provided a colour pattern and consisted of a star-shaped corolla and of central colour patches similar to the nectar guide of natural flowers. The innate choice behaviour was assessed in terms of the number of approach flights from some distance towards the artificial flowers and the percentage of approach flights terminating in antennal contact with the floral guide. The colours of the floral guide, the corolla and the background were varied. It was shown that the innate flower colour preference in bumble bees has two components. 1. The frequency of approaches from a distance is correlated with the colour difference between the corolla and the background against which it is presented. If the corolla colour was constant but its background colour varied, the relative attractiveness of the corolla increased with its colour difference to the background. The colour difference assessment underlying this behaviour on a perceptual basis can be attained by means of colour opponent coding, a system well-established in Hymenoptera. 2. The frequency of antennal contacts with the floral guides relative to that of approach flights cannot be accounted for by colour opponent coding alone. Whether the approach flights are interrupted, or whether they end in an antennal contact with the nectar guide is strongly dependent on the direction (sign) of the colour difference, not only its magnitude. The choice behaviour requires a unique perceptual dimension, possibly that of colour saturation or that of hue perception comparable to components of colour perception in humans.  相似文献

Zingiber pauciflorum L.Bai, ?korni?k., D.Z.Li & N.H.Xia (Zingibereae, Zingiberaceae), a new species from southern Yunnan, China, is described and colour plates are provided. It belongs to Z . sect. Cryptanthium Horan. and is compared with three similar species, namely Z. tenuifolium L.Bai, ?korni?k. & N.H.Xia, Z. smilesianum Craib and Z. yunnanense S.Q.Tong & X.Z.Liu. Cell-free extracts of Synechocystis 6803 were fractionated by successive ultracentrifugation at 40,000 × g, 90,000 × g and 150,000 × g to obtain the three thylakoid fractions designated as 40 k, 90 k and 150 k fractions respectively. These fractions showed differences in absorption and emission spectra. Nano-LC-ESI-Q-TOF MS analysis identified 123 proteins belonging to membrane as well as cytosolic fraction. Out of these proteins, there were 22 proteins with transmembrane helices and 12 proteins with signal peptide. There were 77 proteins common across all the three fractions. Most of these proteins were subunits of photosynthetic complexes, CF0–CF1 ATP synthase or ribosomal proteins. Among the rest of the proteins, 8 were exclusive to 40 k fraction, 3 were exclusive to 90 k fraction and 13 were exclusive to 150 k fraction. There were 10 proteins common between 40 k and 90 k fractions and 12 proteins common between 90 k and 150 k fractions. There were no common proteins detected between 40 k and 150 fractions. The results suggested existence of heterogeneity in thylakoids of Synechocystis 6803, which may lead to micro-compartmentation and functional heterogeneity in the thylakoids of this organism as seen previously.  相似文献

Background: Ecological studies showing an inverse association between pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality and levels of ultraviolet radiation (UVR), suggest that higher levels of sun exposure may reduce risks of pancreatic cancer but there has been only one individual-level study that examined this issue. We aimed to examine the association between pancreatic cancer and markers of exposure to solar UVR, namely skin type, treatment of skin lesions, ambient UVR and time outdoors on work days. Methods: We used data from an Australian case-control study. Location at birth, residential location during adulthood, outdoors work, history of skin lesion treatment and sensitivity of the skin to the sun were obtained by questionnaire. We limited the analyses to Caucasians who answered the questionnaire about UVR (controls = 589/711 recruited; cases = 496/705 recruited). We used NASA's Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer to estimate ambient UVR. Results: Being born in or living in areas of higher ambient UVR (compared to lower ambient UVR) was associated with about 30–40% lower risk of pancreatic cancer. People with fair skin colour had 47% lower risk of pancreatic cancer than those with dark skin colour (95% CI 0.37–0.75). There was some suggestion of increased risk with increased average number of hours spent outside at work. Conclusions: This study suggests that people with light skin colour or those born or living in areas of high ambient UVR have lower risk of pancreatic cancer. Our analysis supports an association between UVR and pancreatic cancer, possibly mediated through production of vitamin D.  相似文献

A kinetic study of the oxidation of the copper(I) form of the blue copper protein stellacyanin (St(I) by Co(EDTA)-- has been performed. Observed rate constants approach a saturation limit with increasing [Co(EDTA)--] at pH 7, consistent with a mechanism involving rapid pre-equilibrium oxidant-protein complex formation followed by rate-limiting intramolecular Cu(I) to Co(III) electron transfer: Co(EDTA)-- + St(i Qp in equilibrium Co(EDTA)-- ---St(I) Co(EDTA)-- ---St(I) k2 leads to Co(EDTA)2-- ---St(II) (Qp = 149 M--1, k2 = 0.169 sec--1; 25.1 degrees, pH 7.0 mu 0.5 M (phosphate)). Activation parameters based on k2 (deltaH not equal to = 1.8 kcal/mol, deltaS not equal to = --56 cal/mol-deg) indicate that the electron transfer process is substantially nondiabatic, in marked contrast with results obtained for Co(phen) 3 3+ as the oxidant. Linear kobsd VS. [Co(EDTA)--] plots are reported for the Co(EDTA)-- oxidation of cuprous stellacyanin at pH 10 (k = 8.9 M--1 sec--1; 25.0, pH 10, mu 0.5 M (carbonate); DELTaH not equal to 11.3 kcal/mol, deltaS not equal to = -16 cal/mol-deg) and at pH 7 in the presence of excess EDTA (k = 21.2 M--1 sec--1; 25.1 degree, pH 7.0, mu 0.5 M (phosphate), [EDTA] tot = 5 X 10(--4) M; deltaH not equal to = 5.9 kcal/mol, delta S not equal to = --33 cal/mol-deg). It is concluded that Co(EDTA)-- adopts an electron transfer mechanism similar to that preferred by Co(phen)33+ under conditions where the oxidant is prevented from binding strongly to reduced stellacyanin.  相似文献

Flowers of some Phlox ( Phlox x paniculata L.) varieties undergo daily colour shifts, being blue in the early morning, turning red during the day, and returning to blue in the evening. The colour shift, which occurs only in the upper (adaxial) petal surfaces, is due to the daily changes in ambient light. In the laboratory, colour shifts could be induced by 2.5 h of ultraviolet, visible or far-red light and recorded by reflectance spectrophotometry.
There are indications that irradiations with different kinds of light cause qualitatively different colour shifts, and that thus more than one photoreceptor pigment and more than one primary light reaction may be involved. The presence of phytochrome was demonstrated in petals of white Phlox flowers by in vivo transmission spectrophotometry. It is therefore possible that colour shifts in coloured Phlox flowers are mediated by phytochrome. Possibly the movement of ions (e.g. hydrogen ions) into or out of the vacuole (where the visible pigments are located) is affected by light absorption in a pigment in the tonoplast.  相似文献

Studies on the genetic control of immune response to sperm whale myoglobin were initiated. As demonstrated in this paper, the T lymphocyte proliferative response to whale myoglobin is under H-2-linked Ir gene control. Mice of H-2d, H-2f, and H-2s haplotypes were high responders to the myoglobin, whereas haplotypes H-2b, H-2k, H-2p, H-2q, and H-2r were low responders. The Ir gene(s) was localized between H-2K and H2D regions, since the recombinant strain A.TL (KsIkSkDd) was a low responder and A.TH (KsIsSsDd) was a high responder. Further studies with recombinant strains revealed that the expression of the high-responder I-Ad or Ias alleles was sufficient to give a good response, since strains D2.GD (d d b b b b b b) and B10.HTT (s s s s k k k d) were high responders. The expression of the I-Cd allele in strains B10.A (k k k k k d d d) and B10.A(5R) (b b b k k d d d) also gave high response, and thus suggested a second Ir gene, derived from the H-2d haplotype. The finding that expression of the I-Cs allele in B10.S(8R) (k k ? ? s s s s) did not result in high response suggests the lack of the second Ir gene in the high-responder H-2s haplotype.  相似文献

用18株抗肾综合征出血热(Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome,以下简称HFRS)病毒McAb,以Western-blot技术分析了纯化的该病毒50k蛋白。结果有7株McAb可与该蛋白反应。这7株McAb的特性(包括感染细胞膜抗原免疫荧光染色模式、中和活性及HI活性等)亦各不相同,提示它们所针对的抗原决定簇的特性也不同。用ELISA阻断试验等证明,上述7株McAb中,有5株所针对的抗原决定簇之间有部分相同或重叠,提示这些具有不同特性的抗原决定簇确实位于同一结构蛋白上。分析结果表明,该50k蛋白的特性及结构均较复杂,尚须进一步研究。  相似文献

The kinetics of the reduction of oxidized Fe-protein of nitrogenase from Azotobacter chroococcum by sodium dithionite were studied by stopped-flow and rapid-freezing e.p.r. (electron-paramagnetic-resonance) spectroscopy. The appearance of the gav. = 1.94 e.p.r. signal (0.24 electron integrated intensity/mol) was associated with a one-electron reduction by SO2--with k greater than 10(8)M-1-S-1 at 23 degrees C. A value of k = 1.75s-1 was obtained for the rate of dissociation of S2O42- into 2SO2-- at 23 degrees C. Further reductions by SO2-- occurred in three slower phases with rate constants in the range 10(4) -10(6)M-1-S-1. These latter phases have no corresponding e.p.r. signal changes and are probably associated with enzymically inactive protein. The high rate of reduction by SO2-- of the Fe-protein alone (k greater than 10(8)M-1-S-1) relative to the rate of oxidation of the Fe-protein in the catalytically active Fe:Mo-Fe protein complex (k = 2.2 X 1O(2)s-1) and the observation that in the steady state the Fe-protein is substantially oxidized means that at normal assay concentrations another reaction must limit the rate of reduction of Fe-protein during turnover.  相似文献

Recent surveys of periphyton in Lake Tikitapu revealed widespread benthic mats dominated by cyanobacteria. All mats tested positive for the cyanobacterial toxin nodularin-R. The New Zealand native freshwater crayfish or kōura (Paranephrops planifrons) are benthic-dwelling, opportunistic omnivores that are common in Lake Tikitapu. Benthic mats constitute a potential food source for this species. In this study an in-lake feeding experiment with isotopically labeled 13C benthic mats confirmed they were consumed by kōura. Consumption was variable amongst individuals, suggesting the benthic mats are an optional rather than primary food source. Nine kōura were also tested using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry to determine if nodularin-R bioaccumulated in the hepatopancreas and tail tissue. The hepatopancreas of all kōura were positive for nodularin-R (9.7–225.3 μg kg−1 ww) and nodularin-R was detected in low concentrations in the tail tissue of two individuals (0.5–0.7 μg kg−1 ww). The detection of nodularin-R in kōura is the first in a freshwater organism in a freshwater system, and the first to show the accumulation of nodularin-R from freshwater benthic cyanobacterial mats. Benthic mats may need to be considered as a potential source of cyanotoxins in future freshwater food-web studies.  相似文献

ObjectiveSan’ao decoction (SAD) is a commonly used traditional combinatorial formula composed of Herba Ephedrae, Radix Glycyrrhizae and Amygdalus Communis Vas. Early studies showed that in the OVA sensitization asthmatic mice model its compatibility could lower airway reactivity and airway inflammatory cell infiltration. Based on the above results, this study mainly discussed San’ao decoction's immunomodulatory effects on Tregs.MethodsUPLC–PDA–TOF-MS was applied to analyze chemicals of SAD, and under the optimized chromatographic and MS condition, the major components in SAD were well separated and detected within 22 min. An asthma model was established in BALB/c mice that were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin. After 2 weeks’ treatment, peripheral blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were assessed for inflammatory cell counts; histological change of lung tissue were detected; flow cytometry detection of splenic CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ Treg cells of the mice were counted; Foxp3 expression in lung tissues were examined as well.Results22 Peaks signal chemical components in SAD were identified by UPLC–QTO-MS method. In terms of the percentage of eosinophile in peripheral blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), SAD groups were significantly lower (p < 0.01) than model group. Compared with model group, lung histological changes of SAD groups were reduced; the proportion of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ Treg cells in CD4+ cells of asthmatic mice also decreased; SAD significantly increased the proportion of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ Treg cells and promoted Foxp3 expression in a mouse model of asthma.ConclusionThese results suggest that the antiasthmatic effects of SAD are at least partially associated with CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ Treg cells.  相似文献

Protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO, E.C. 1.3.3.4) is the action target for several structurally diverse herbicides. A series of novel 4-(difluoromethyl)-1-(6-halo-2-substituted-benzothiazol-5-yl)-3-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5(4H)-ones 2az were designed and synthesized via the ring-closure of two ortho-substituents. The in vitro bioassay results indicated that the 26 newly synthesized compounds exhibited good PPO inhibition effects with Ki values ranging from 0.06 to 17.79 μM. Compound 2e, ethyl 2-{[5-(4-(difluoromethyl)-3-methyl-5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-6-fluorobenzo-thiazol-2-yl]thio}acetate, was the most potent inhibitor with Ki value of 0.06 μM against mtPPO, comparable to (Ki = 0.03 μM) sulfentrazone. Further green house assays showed that compound 2f (Ki = 0.24 μM, mtPPO), ethyl 2-{[5-(4-(difluoromethyl)-3-methyl-5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-6-fluorobenzothiazol-2-yl]thio}propanoate, showed the most promising post-emergence herbicidal activity with broad spectrum even at concentrations as low as 37.5 g ai/ha. Soybean exhibited tolerance to compound 2f at the dosages of 150 g ai/ha, whereas they are susceptible to sulfentrazone even at 75 g ai/ha. Thus, compound 2f might be a potential candidate as a new herbicide for soybean fields.  相似文献

Rapid, reversible colour change is unusual in animals, but is a feature of male chameleon grasshoppers (Kosciuscola tristis). Understanding what triggers this colour change is paramount to developing hypotheses explaining its evolutionary significance. In a series of manipulative experiments the author quantified the effects of temperature, and time of day, as well as internal body temperature, on the colour of male K. tristis. The results suggest that male chameleon grasshoppers change colour primarily in response to temperature and that the rate of colour change varies considerably, with the change from black to turquoise occurring up to 10 times faster than the reverse. Body temperature changed quickly (within 10 min) in response to changes in ambient temperature, but colour change did not match this speed and thus colour is decoupled from internal temperature. This indicates that male colour change is driven primarily by ambient temperature but that their colour does not necessarily reflect current internal temperature. I propose several functional hypotheses for male colour change in K. tristis.  相似文献
