We fed prairie voles (Microtus ochrogaster) rat chow diluted with variable amounts of -cellulose to determine 1) how much fiber the voles could tolerate in their diet; 2) changes in food intake and digestibility of dry matter and of fiber; 3) the extent to which voles utilized fiber as an energy source; and 4) whether any of these variables differed between groups of animals maintained at 5 or 22°C. Fiber content of the diets ranged from 20 to 84%. Animals held at 5°C maintained body mass through a diet containing 69% fiber, while animals held at 22°C maintained body mass through the 84% fiber diet. Dry matter intake increased with fiber level from 9.3 to 15.0 g·day-1 for animals at 5°C and from 5.6 to 14.0 g·day-1 for animals at 22°C; intake on the highest fiber diet eaten by either group was not different. Dry matter digestibility decreased significantly as the fiber in the diets increased, but was not affected by temperature treatments. Digestible dry matter intake for each group remained constant regardless of diet quality, but on each diet digestible dry matter intake for animals at 5°C was significantly higher than that of the animals held at 22°C. Digestibility of the fiber portion of the experimental diets remained constant as food quality decreased, so the percent of daily energy need met by fiber utilization increased with higher food intake. Summary Piona exigua Viets is a predaceous freshwater mite that can potentially affect the population densities of its cladoceran prey. As part of a study of the effect of Piona exigua on its prey populations we measured the effects of water temperature and prey density on the lifespan, age at first reproduction and per capita egg production of adult female mites. Mites were raised in the laboratory at five prey (Ceriodaphnia, Daphnia) densities (5, 15, 30, 60, 120/l) at 15° C and at four temperatures (10, 15, 18, 22° C) at c. 60 prey/l. In response to increased food level, mites increased the number of eggs laid to reach a maximum at 60 prey/l, the rate at which they were laid increased and the pre-reproductive period was shorter. Low temperatures prolonged the pre-reproductive period. At temperatures above 10° C, food level and temperature had more influence on the timing of reproductive events (growth rate, oviposition rate, age at first reproduction) than on the size of females at first reproduction. When temperatures exceed 10° C and food levels exceed 5 prey/l the major scope for reproductive plasticity in Piona lies in the timing and duration of egg production.  相似文献

Three micro algae, Ankistrodesmus convolutus, Scenedesmus incrassatulus and Chlorella vulgaris, at three concentrations, were tested as diets for Moina macrocopa. Their effect on reproduction, fecundity, growth and survival was evaluated. All three algae satisfied the nutritional requirements of M. macrocopa, despite their difference in size. The best concentration, expressed in dry weight, was 5 mg l–1 for all three. Time to first reproduction was 4 days with all diets. Average time between clutches was 33 hours, and maximum number of clutches was 12; the highest average number of offspring per brood was 27. The largest broods were the fourth to sixth, depending on the diet. Ephippium hatching depends on temperature, taking only 24 hours at 30 °C and 48 hours at 27 °C. This species could be an important test organism in aquatic bioassays, and a live food in aquaculture.  相似文献

Fungal feeding soil invertebrates feed on a wide spectrum of fungal species suggesting that mixed diets increase fitness. We investigated relationships between food preferences for seven saprophytic fungal species/forms and fitness parameters (mortality, growth, time to reproduction, reproduction, egg size) in two Collembola species, Folsomia candida and Protaphorura armata. The fungal species/forms studied included the wild type and a melanin-deficient form of Aspergillus fumigatus to investigate the role of melanin in collembolan nutrition. Also, three mixed diets consisting of a preferred fungal species (Cladosporium cladosporioides) and species of intermediate or low food quality were investigated. Both Collembola species preferred similar fungal species/forms as food. Food preference generally matched fitness parameters, i.e. growth and reproduction of Collembola was at a maximum when feeding on preferred fungi. This was not the case for A. fumigatus. The wild type and the melanin-deficient form ranked among the least preferred fungi. Growth and reproduction of Collembola were low when feeding on the wild type but high when feeding on the melanin-deficient form indicating that the Collembola misjudged the food quality of the latter in the preference tests. The results show for the first time that genes driving melanin syntheses (pksP) strongly affect the food quality of fungi for fungal feeding invertebrates. Feeding on mixed diets generally increased growth and reproduction of Collembola except when the diets included toxic species (Penicillium sp.). The results support the nutrient balance hypothesis and also show that the detection of toxic species in the diet is important. They indicate that the widespread generalist feeding mode of Collembola maximizes fitness if toxic fungal species are avoided. The fitness parameters growth, reproduction and time until onset of reproduction were correlated closely but egg volume, which also varied with fungal diet, correlated poorly with the other fitness parameters. Variation in egg size with fungal diet shows that the diet of Collembola may have transgenerational effects.  相似文献

We evaluated the combined effects of food (0.5 × 106, 1.0 × 106 and 2.0 × 106 cells ml−1 of Chlorella vulgaris) and temperature (15, 20 and 25 °C) on life history variables of B. havanaensis. Regardless of Chlorella density there was a steep fall in the survivorship of B. havanaensis at 25 °C. Both food level and temperature affected the fecundity of B. havanaensis. At any given food level, rotifers cultured at 15 °C showed extended but low offspring production. At 25 °C, offspring production was elevated, the duration of egg laying reduced and the fecundity was higher during the latter part of the reproductive period. The effect of food level was generally additive, at any given temperature, and higher densities of Chlorella resulted in higher offspring production. Average lifespan, life expectancy at birth and generation time were 2–3 times longer at 15 °C than at 25 °C. At 20 °C, these remained at intermediate levels. The shortest generation time (about 4 days) was observed at 25 °C. Gross and net reproductive rates and the rate of population increase (r) increased with increasing temperature and generally, at any given temperature, higher algal food levels contributed to higher values in these variables. The r varied from 0.11 to 0.66. The survival patterns and lower rates of reproduction at 15 °C suggest that the winter temperatures (10–15 °C) prevailing in many waterbodies in Mexico City allow this species to sustain throughout the year under natural conditions.  相似文献

The ontogenetic diet shifts and age specific ability of the two cladoceran species Moina macrocopa and Ceriodaphnia cornuta to derive energy from ciliated protists have been investigated in laboratory. The postembryonic developmental rates and life table demography (longevity, age and size at first reproduction, fecundity and intrinsic rate of natural increase) of the cladocerans have been elucidated on algae (Chlorella vulgaris) and the ciliated protists (Tetrahymena pyriformis, Colpoda (c.f.) steini) as food. For either of the cladoceran, the somatic growth rate and average body size at first reproduction were higher with algal diet. During initial stages of development (0–5 days), either cladoceran realized higher rate of somatic growth on algal diet, subsequently ciliated protists supported significantly higher growth rate than the alga. Algal and ciliate diets did not differ in maximum body size (C. cornuta: 539–554 μm; M. macrocopa: 1274.8–1309 μm) reached by either of the cladocerans. The maximum body sizes were larger than size at first reproduction with either of the ciliated protists, however, with algal diet the maximum body sizes did not differ from the size at first reproduction in each case. In case of C. cornuta the generation time (20.5 ± 0.3 days on ciliate; 15.6 ± 0.17 days on algal diet), reproductive rates (net reproductive rate: 20.05 ± 3.2 on ciliate; 15.5 ± 1.2 on algal diet), and average life expectancy at hatching (27 ± 0.8 days on ciliate; 22.7 ± 0.71 days on alga) were higher, whereas the size at first reproduction (482 μm on ciliate; 521 μm on alga) was smaller with the ciliate than with an algal diet. The algal and the ciliate diets did not differ in survival (life expectancy at hatching: 9.2 ± 0.7 days) and fecundity (NRR: 23.6 ± 2.4) for M. macrocopa. The two ciliates used in the experiment did not differ in their performance as food source for either cladoceran species. Our results suggest that both the cladoceran species are able to utilize smaller ciliate (e.g., T. pyriformis, C. The life history of New Zealand flower thrips (Thrips obscuratus (Crawford), Thysanoptera: Thripidae) was studied using a simple laboratory rearing method. The effects of temperature and diet on oviposition rate and development time were examined. Oviposition rate increased with increasing temperature between 10°C and 25°C. Development time for individual instars and for total development decreased with increasing temperature between 10°C and 27°C. Total development time ranged from 50 days at 10°C (female) to 10 days at 27°C (male). The relationship between temperature and development rate was expressed as a straight line such that lower thresholds of development of between 4.2°C and 6.3°C were established for life stages. Adult lifespan increased with decreasing temperature between 10°C and 25°C and females lived longer than males. At 10°C and 25°C females lived for an average of 34 and 3 weeks respectively. Thrips supplied with pollen exhibited highest and sustained levels of egg production in comparison to other diets. Larval mortality was lowest and development time fastest on diets of pollen and sucrose or fruit juice in comparison to other plant tissues. Studies on the reproduction, longevity and life table parameters of Iphiseius degenerans (Berlese) were carried out under laboratory conditions of 25 ± 1 °C, 75 ± 5% RH and 16L:8D h. As food sources for the predatory mite, Ricinus communis L. pollen, all stages of the spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) larvae, and Ephestia kuehniella Zeller eggs were selected. All diets were accepted as food by the adult mites. Female longevity ranged from 29.5 to 42.4 days, the highest value was recorded on a diet of Ephestia eggs. The highest percentage of females escaping the experimental arena was observed on the diet consisting of thrips larvae. The highest oviposition rate (1.9 eggs/female.day) was recorded when the predator was fed on spider mites on an artificial substrate. For other diets, oviposition rates ranged from 1.0 to 1.3 eggs/female.day. The intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m) of I. degenerans varied between 0.015 and 0.142 females/female.day. The diet consisting of castor bean pollen resulted in the highest population growth whereas the diet on spider mites brushed off onto a bean leaf arena resulted in the slowest population growth. This can be explained by the inability of the predator to cope with the webbing of T. urticae, and the high escape rate of the progeny when reared on spider mites. Populations of a rheophilic cyprinid Barbus barbus have declined in last decades, which created a need of conservation aquaculture. Production of stocking material in controlled conditions calls for optimization of the two major factors, temperature and diet. Condition, growth and food conversion ratio in fish fed a formulated diet Aller Futura were compared with those on natural food—frozen Chironomidae larvae at 17, 21 and 25 °C. Groups of 60 early juveniles (0.6–3.7 g) were reared in each of 18 aquaria in which six experimental groups were run in triplicate. Daily food ratios were adjusted according to fish biomass, differences in hydration between the two diets and rearing temperature. No mortality occurred during the experiment. Condition coefficient K was significantly higher in fish fed Aller Futura compared to those fed Chironomidae irrespective of temperature tested; body deformities were not recorded. Relative growth rate at the same temperature was always higher in fish on the formulated diet than in those fed Chironomidae, and food conversion ratio was always suppressed, both suggesting an efficient utilization of Aller Futura for growth in B. barbus early juveniles. On both diets the coefficient K was depressed at 21 °C. Relative growth rate (RGR) was accelerated with temperature according the Krogh’s “normal curve” within the range 21–25 °C, while at lower temperatures (17–21 °C) the observed values of temperature coefficient Q10 were much higher than the theoretical Q10 values based on Krogh’s “normal curve”. Food conversion ratios (FCR) were reduced on both diets at 21 and 25 °C. Theoretical optimum temperatures for food conversion were 22.0 and 23.6 °C. Summing up, responses of three independent indices: condition, growth and food utilization locate the optimum temperature for B. barbus between 21 and 25 °C. No evidence was found that the effect of temperature on these indices was substantially modified by the diet.  相似文献

The growth, reproduction and longevity of Diplogasteritus nudicapitatus, Paroigolaimella bernensis and Rhabditis curvicaudata were investigated under conditions of excess food within the temperature range 5°C–20°C. In all three species growth rate increased with temperature, and in D. nudicapitatus and R. curvicaudata the adult size attained varied significantly with temperature. P. bernensis did not reproduce at 5°C, but showed a progressive increase in reproductive output at higher temperatures. D. nudicaitatus showed increased egg production as temperature increased while R. curvicaudata had maximum egg output at 10°C. Longevity is temperature dependent, decreasing with higher temperatures. Virgin females survived for longer than reproducing females. The data indicate that while D. nudicapitatus and P. bernensis are thermophilic species, R. curvicaudata is adapted to lower temperatures.  相似文献

Dish and column microcosms containing alfalfa-sand medium were established to determine effect of temperature on growth and N mineralization ability of two fungi (Rhizoctonia solaniand Botrytis cinerea) and two nematodes (Aphelenchus avenaeand Aphelenchoides composticola). The microcosms were incubated at 15, 20, 25 and 29 °C for 21 days. In the dish microcosms, hyphal growth rates of both fungal species increased with temperature in the range of 15–25 °C. Above that temperature range, the growth rate of R. solani remained almost constant while that of B. cinereadecrease considerably. The population growth rate of A. avenae increased with temperature between 15 and 29 °C on colonies of R. solani and B. cinerea in dish microcosms. The growth rate of A. composticola also increased in the range of 15–25 °C but decreased greatly beyond that temperature range independent of the fungal species as food source. Inorganic N (NH4 + + NO3 ) was collected from each column microcosm by leaching every 3 days. In the columns containing R. solani, there was a significant effect of temperature on the amount of N detected in the fungus+A avenaeor A. composticolabut not in the fungus alone columns. The total amount of N was greatest at 29 °C for A. avenaeand at 20 °C for A. composticola columns, concurrent with the population growth rates of the nematodes. In the columns containing B. cinerea, the effect of temperature on the amount of inorganic N was not significant in either the fungus alone or fungus+nematode columns, although the population growth rates of the both nematode species were highest at 20 °C. For B. cinerea, the N amount across temperatures was the same or larger for the fungus alone as for the fungus+nematode columns. In general, the contribution of fungal-feeding nematodes to N mineralization was small in any combinations of fungus and nematode species at any temperature. Similarity in C/N ratio of the fungal and nematode biomass, organic substrate C/N ratios too low for measurable increase in net mineralization by the nematodes and small reproduction of the nematodes in the column microcosms were probable contributory factors.  相似文献

The mirid bug Macrolophus caliginosus is commercially reared on eggs of Ephestia kuehniella, constituting an effective but expensive factitious food. Artificial diets can decrease the rearing costs of this natural enemy, but developing and evaluating an artificial diet is a very time-consuming activity. In the current study, development and reproduction of M. caliginosus on two artificial diets based on egg yolk were investigated. The artificial diets resulted in longer development and lower adult weights, but survival was comparable with that of control insects fed E. kuehniella eggs. Reproductive potential of the predator reared on factitious and artificial foods was assessed using a dissection method. The influence of nymphal food on fecundity was less important than that of adult food. Adults fed E. kuehniella eggs had a preoviposition period of about 4 days, whereas adults offered only plant material started laying eggs about 7 days after emergence. Ovarian scores at day 7 were higher for females fed E. kuehniella eggs than for those given access only to a tobacco leaf. Ovarian scores were not significantly affected by mating status. In a final test, a parallel comparison of two methods for assessing reproductive response to diet was made. Here, adult couples were offered one of four diets: E. kuehniella eggs, one of two artificial diets or no food. Half of the females were dissected and the other half was held for determining lifetime oviposition. Females fed E. kuehniella eggs had superior ovarian scores and laid more eggs than those fed either artificial diet or those given no extra food. A good correlation (r = 0.97) was obtained between ovarian scores and oviposition data, indicating that dissecting females after 1 week provides a reliable estimate of fecundity as affected by diet quality. Rapid reproductive assessments as used in the current study will help to increase the rate of development of artificial diets and may contribute to more cost effective production methods for augmentative biological control agents.  相似文献

Summary Daphnia parvula experiences a wide range of thermal (4°–30°C) and food conditions during its annual population cycle. We used cohort life table experiments to determine the synergistic effects of temperature and food concentration on its life history parameters. A 3×3 factorial design experiments was conducted with animals raised at all combinations of three naturally experienced temperatures (10°, 15° and 25° C) and food levels (0.02, 0.20 and 2.0 mg C/l). D. parvula showed an increase in survivorship with decreasing temperature at all food levels. Fecundity parameters (number of broods/female, brood size and net reproductive rate) increased with increasing food at the two lower temperatures but showed a mid-range food optimum at the highest temperature. Development rates and realized rates of increase (r) showed an increase with both increasing temperature and food such that they were maximum at the highest temperature-food level treatment. The life history parameters, average lifespan, age at first reproduction, brood duration time, brood size and number of young per reproductive female all showed significant interaction between temperature and food as was suggested by trends in R o and r. Temperature had a reduced effect on fecundity, development rates and realized rates of increase at the low food level.Population birth rates of continuously reproducing zooplankton are typically calculated by the egg-ratio method (Edmondson 1960) and are based on thermally controlled development rates which neglect the effects of food limitation. Significant synergistic temperature-food effects on brood duration time and other life history parameters of Daphnia parvula suggest that food limitation and foodtemperature interaction should be considered when calculating field population birth rates. A comparison of realized rates of increase from this study with similar life table data for Daphnia parvula raised on natural food from Lake Oglethorpe indicate that synergistic effects are negligible in this eutrophic system due to abundant resources. Summary Exposure of 4–5 day oldDaphnia hyalina to temperatures of 32° C and higher caused substantial mortality when the exposure time was an hour or more. The tolerance ofBosmina sp. to temperature shocks appears to be about that ofD. hyalina. Naupllus larvae ofCyclops sp. were much more tolerant.Survival and reproduction ofD. hyalina at high temperatures were strongly influenced by the food concentration. The effects of different algal foods and water temperatures on the growth and fatty acid content of the Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L., were studied. Four types of algae, given in the same amounts as the control diet, were used as food: Microcystis aeruginosa, colonial and single-celled forms; Arthrospira fusiformis; and Scenedesmus quadricauda. The control group was fed a commercial diet of cichlid pellets, while another group was left unfed. The feeding experiment was run at 25 °C. The condition factor decreased in all algal fed fish groups, except the one fed on Microcystis colonies, whereas the control group showed no significant change. Both food quantity and quality were responsible for this result. Some short-chained fatty acids in the diets could be traced in the long-chained counter-parts in the fish tissue. Both saturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids were higher in the control vs. treatment groups, whereas the polyunsaturated fatty acids displayed no significant differences amongst any of the treatment groups studied, including the unfed group. Direct quantitative comparison of individual fatty acid in the diet vs. tissue lipids in the fish proved to be difficult due to the great capacity of these tilapias to elongate and desaturate 18 carbon acids into long-chained homologues. The effect of temperature was studied by growing the fish at 16, 20 and 25 °C. All groups were fed commercial cichlid pellets. The level of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids increased at 20 °C, whereas polyunsaturated fatty acids showed little variation. Docosahexaenoic acid, belonging to the important omega 3 group where the first double bond starts at carbon number three, was highest at 16 °C, resulting in a markedly elevated omega-3/omega-6 ratio at that temperature.  相似文献

The effects of photoperiodic conditions of larval development and adult maturation (L : D = 12 : 12 vs. 18 : 6) and different diets (sugar solution, frozen eggs of Sitotroga cerealella, different numbers of aphids Myzus persicae, and their combinations) on survival, reproductive maturation and fecundity of Harmonia axyridis were studied in laboratory conditions. The fundamental aim of the work was to distinguish between cue effect of diet (neurohormonal triggering of reproduction) and direct effect of diet (nutritional maintenance of reproduction). When adults were kept under short‐day conditions, the proportion of ovipositing females decreased and the duration of the pre‐oviposition period increased. Moreover, a strong reaction to the direction of changes in the day length was demonstrated: when larvae and pupae developed at long day and adults were transferred to short day, the proportion of ovipositing females was much lower than in individuals that were permanently kept under short‐day conditions. The percentage of ovipositing females, the rate of their reproductive maturation and the average daily fecundity gradually increased in the following succession of diets: ‘sugar + 5 aphids per day < sugar + eggs < sugar + eggs + 5 aphids per day < sugar + 100 aphids per day’. However, dissection showed that most of the non‐laying females fed on these diets (particularly those kept under long‐day conditions) have started reproductive maturation, while even first stages of oogenesis were not found in females fed on sugar solution alone. We conclude that cue effect of diet (reproductive activation) can be achieved almost independently of the number of prey consumed, while nutritional effects (the rate of reproductive maturation and fecundity) are sensitive both to the quality and quantity of food.  相似文献

This paper reports on preliminary experiments on the controlled culturing of the freshwater ciliated protozoan Spirostomum ambiguum, as a first step in the development of a new low cost microbiotest, to complement the limited battery of standardized cost-effective toxicity tests presently available, with a representative of unicellular biota.Three strains of S. ambiguum originating from France and Poland respectively, have been grown in natural as well as in reconstituted waters, on several types of inert diets and in different temperature and light conditions.The best results in terms of survival and reproduction of the ciliates, leading to a standard recipe for stock culturing, were obtained at 20 °C, in reconstituted Volvic water and on a diet of oat flakes supplemented with dried leave powder as vegetal adjuvant, with weekly renewal of the medium and food. An average generation time of 4 days was obtained in the latter set of stock culturing conditions.  相似文献

The night monkeys (Aotus azarai) of Formosa, Argentina provide an opportunity to investigate the influences of ambient temperature and photoperiod on reproduction in a highly seasonal environment: the Chaco. Between 1997 and 2000, we collected data to evaluate the relationship between rainfall, ambient temperature, photoperiod and food availability and the annual distribution of mating behavior and births in 15 groups of monkeys in the forests of the Eastern Argentinean Chaco. Our data show that the area is highly seasonal, characterized by significant fluctuations in rainfall, temperature, photoperiod and food availability. There are two rain peaks in April and November and a dry season lasting from June to August. Monthly mean temperatures were on average 11°C lower during winter months than they were during summer months. Temperatures <10°C and >33°C were also frequent through the year. Days are 3 h longer during the summer than during the winter months. Insect abundance and the percentage of tree species producing fruits, flowers or new leaves reached a low in the coldest winter months. Mating was infrequent, and we only observed it between May and September. Half the births (n = 13) occurred during a 2-week period in October. Infant survival during the first 6 mo of life was high (96%). Our findings suggest an environmental control of reproduction. Changes in photoperiod and temperature may promote reproductive activity in females that might conceive and begin pregnancy at a time void of high temperatures that could be metabolically challenging.  相似文献

1. Bacteria can be an important resource for zooplankton production in aquatic food webs, although the degree to which bacteria sustain zooplankton growth and reproduction is not clear. We performed a growth experiment with Daphnia galeata feeding on different ratios of P‐replete Pseudomonas and Rhodomonas, ranging from a 100% bacterial to a 100% algal diet. 2. A pure bacterial diet did not support survival, growth or reproduction of D. galeata. While a 20% share of Rhodomonas in the food allowed survival of daphniids, the occurrence of offspring on a 50% algal diet indicated that the threshold for successful reproduction was between those two proportions of algal food. Increasing the proportion of the alga further increased growth and reproductive output, indicating that Rhodomonas was a higher‐quality food than Pseudomonas. 3. A subsequent labelling experiment demonstrated that D. galeata incorporated phosphorus from Pseudomonas and Rhodomonas with similar efficiency, whereas carbon was incorporated more efficiently from Pseudomonas than from Rhodomonas. 4. we hypothesise that inadequate levels of essential biochemicals in pure bacterial diets led to decreased Daphnia performance. Concentrations of fatty acids in general, and especially of polyunsaturated fatty acids, were much lower in Pseudomonas than in Rhodomonas. This difference could explain the different growth and reproduction responses, although limitation by other essential biochemicals (e.g. sterols) cannot be ruled out. 5. Hence, where they dominate, bacteria may provide a significant part of the elemental flux to species feeding higher in the food web on the short term. Development, reproduction and life tables of Adalia bipunctata (L.) were studied at three temperatures (19, 23 and 27°C) on a mixture of frozen pollen and Ephestia kuehniella Zeller eggs as a factitious food and on the aphids Myzus persicae (Sulzer) and Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) as natural foods. Development time of A. bipunctata on all tested diets decreased with increasing temperature. Mortality was lowest at 23°C, averaging 44.5%, 42.6% and 24.3% on factitious food, A. pisum and M. persicae respectively. The shortest developmental time from egg to adult at this temperature was observed on factitious food (18.55 days). However, the factitious food was inferior to the aphid diets in terms of reproduction, yielding the longest pre‐oviposition period, shortest oviposition period and lowest fecundity. The mean oviposition rate at 23°C varied from 19.94 to 25.03 eggs day?1 on factitious food and M. persicae respectively. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) on different foods increased with increasing temperature and ranged from a minimum of 0.08 females/female/day on factitious food (19°C) to a maximum of 0.18 females/female/day on A. pisum (27°C). The results suggest that a mixture of E. kuehniella eggs and pollen fully support development of A. bipunctata larvae and can be used as an alternative to live aphids in the mass rearing of the pre‐imaginal stages of the predator. However, reproductive performance of a laboratory population may be better on aphids than on the factitious food.  相似文献
