Li3PO4 phosphor was prepared using a modified solid‐state diffusion technique. In this work, photoluminescence, lyoluminescence and mechanoluminescence studies were carried out in a Li3PO4 microcrystalline powder doped with different rare earths. In photoluminescence studies, characteristic emission of Ce and Eu was observed. The lyoluminescence glow curves of Li3PO4 microcrystals show that lyoluminescence intensity initially increases with time and then decreases exponentially. The decay time consists of two components for all masses. The dependence of decay time, especially the longer component, on mass has been investigated. Experiments on γ‐irradiated crystals have proved that the light emission originates from the recombination of released F‐centres with trapped holes (V2‐centres) at the sulfuric acid–solid interface. Incorporation of bivalent alkali in solid lithium phosphate leads to an enhancement of lyoluminescence. A possible explanation for the experimental results has been attempted. The phosphor has a mechanoluminescence single glow peak. Mechanoluminescence intensity under various loading conditions was investigated. It is observed that mechanoluminescence intensity increases with increasing impurity concentration and increasing piston impact velocity. When II–VI semiconductors are fractured, initially the mechanoluminescence (ML) intensity increases with time, attains a maximum value Im at a time tm, at which the fracture is completed. After tm, the ML intensity decreases with time, Im increase linearly with the impact velocity v0 and IT initially increase linearly with v0 and then it attains a saturation value for a higher value of v0. For photoluminescence, the temperature dependence comes mainly from luminescence efficiency, ηo; however, for the ML excitation, there is an additional factor, rt dependent on temperature. During fracture, charged dislocations moving near the tip of moving cracks produce intense electric field, causes band bending. Consequently, tunneling of electrons from filled electron traps to the conduction band takes place, whereby the radiative electron–hole recombination give rise to the luminescence. In the proposed mechanism, expressions are derived for the rise, the time tm corresponding to the ML intensity versus time curve, the ML intensity Im corresponding to the peak of ML intensity versus time curve, the total fracto‐mechanoluminescence (FML) intensity IT, and fast and slow decay of FML intensity of II–VI semiconductors. The lyoluminescence (LL), thermoluminescence (TL) and mechanoluminescence (ML) of γ‐ray‐irradiated coloured powder of KCl:Dy (0.05–0.5 mol%) phosphors are reported in this paper. To understand the mechanism of LL and ML, the LL and ML spectra are compared with TL studies. The variation of intensity of respective luminescence with different γ‐ray doses and with different concentrations of Dy3+ ion doped in KCl is found to be similar in nature. The intensities differ from each other, but their nature is found to be similar with γ‐ray exposures. The ML glow peak intensity is linear up to high 1 kGy exposure as compared to LL (up to 0.5 kGy) and TL (up to 0.75 kGy) techniques. Therefore, according to our results, the recommendation is that KCl:Dy (0.1 mol%) phosphor prepared by wet chemical technique is useful for high‐dose measurements using the ML technique for accidental radiation dosimetry. Calcium aluminate phosphors activated by Dy3+ have been prepared by a combustion method at a temperature of 600°C. Photoluminescence (PL) and thermoluminescence (TL) properties of gamma‐irradiated Dy‐doped calcium aluminate were investigated. The PL spectrum shows a broad peak around 488 nm and 573 nm, under 347 nm excitation. Thermoluminescence studies were performed for different concentrations of Dy. Optimum intensity of photoluminescence was found for 0.02 mol% concentration of Dy. It was found that initially the peak TL intensity increases with increasing concentration of Dy in the CaAl2O4 host, attains a maximum value for 0.05 mol% concentration and decreases with further increase in the doping concentration due to concentration quenching. Geometrical changes in capillary discharges influence the plasma properties and can control exit parameters to certain desired values. For a fixed capillary radius of 2 mm and a 72-μs 43.9-kA peak discharge current, the plasma temperature is about 2.7 eV for different capillary lengths due to the constant input energy, while the number densities tend to saturate for capillary lengths greater than 12 cm. The electrical conductivity reaches 4.02 × 104 Ω?1 m?1 and then tends to saturate for 9-cm capillary length. The maximum bulk velocity at the capillary exit slightly increases with the increase in the capillary length from 6.15 to 6.26 km/s for lengths below 18 cm and decreases to 5.88 km/s for longer capillaries due to the higher amount of ablated mass and increased drag forces. For a 9-cm length with the same 72-μs 43.9-kA peak discharge current, the increase in the capillary radius reduces the energy density, which in turn reduces the total ablate mass, plasma density, electrical conductivity, and exit pressure. It is shown that the plasma temperature decreases from 4.6 to 2.1 eV by increasing the capillary radius and radiant heat flux also drops from 463 to 18.1 GW/m2. The exit bulk velocity drops from 8.7 to 5.3 km/s as the radius increases from 0.5 to 3.6 mm, respectively. The design features of a capillary discharge can be adjusted for the radius and length, to produce specific plasma parameters for desired applications. Scaling laws relating exit peak plasma parameters to radius and length are obtained to facilitate quick estimate of plasma parameters. The validation of this model has been confirmed by confronting with experimental measurements.  相似文献

This paper reports the effect of particle size on the thermoluminescence (TL) of undoped ZnS nanoparticles. ZnS nanoparticles were prepared using a chemical precipitation method in which mercaptoethanol was used as the capping agent. The nanoparticles were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, field emission gun‐scanning electron microscopy and high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy. When the concentrations of mercaptoethanol used are 0, 0.005, 0.01, 0.015, 0.025, 0.040 and 0.060 M, the sizes of the nanoparticles are 2.86, 2.81, 2.69, 2.40, 2.10, 1.90 and 1.80 nm, respectively. Initially, the TL intensity of UV‐irradiated ZnS nanoparticles increases with temperature, attains a peak value Im for a particular temperature Tm, and then decreases with further increases in temperature. The values of both Im and Tm increase with decreasing nanoparticle size. Whereas the activation energy decreases slightly with decreasing nanoparticle size, the frequency factor decreases significantly as the nanoparticle size is reduced. The order of kinetics for the TL glow curve of ZnS nanoparticles is 2. Expressions are derived for the dependence of activation energy (Ea) and Tm on nanoparticle size, and good agreement is found between the experimental and theoretical results. Frequency-domain fluorescence spectroscopy was used to investigate the effects of temperature on the intensity and anisotropy decays of the single tryptophan residues of Staphylococcal nuclease A and its nuclease-conA-SG28 mutant. This mutant has the beta-turn forming hexapeptide, Ser-Gly-Asn-Gly-Ser-Pro, substituted for the pentapeptide Tyr-Lys-Gly-Gln-Pro at positions 27-31. The intensity decays were analyzed in terms of a sum of exponentials and with Lorentzian distributions of decay times. The anisotropy decays were analyzed in terms of a sum of exponentials. Both the intensity and anisotropy decay parameters strongly depend on temperature near the thermal transitions of the proteins. Significant differences in the temperature stability of Staphylococcal nuclease and the mutant exist; these proteins show characteristic thermal transition temperatures (Tm) of 51 and 30 degrees C, respectively, at pH 7. The temperature dependence of the intensity decay data are shown to be consistent with a two-state unfolding model. For both proteins, the longer rotational correlation time, due to overall rotational diffusion, decreases dramatically at the transition temperature, and the amplitude of the shorter correlation time increases, indicating increased segmental motions of the single tryptophan residue. The mutant protein appears to have a slightly larger overall rotational correlation time and to show slightly more segmental motion of its Trp than is the case for the wild-type protein.  相似文献

The present paper reports the impulsive excitation of mechanoluminescence (ML) in Sr0.97Al2O4:Eu0.01,Dy0.02 nanophosphors prepared using a combustion technique. The phosphors are characterized using X‐ray powder diffraction (XRD), high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and photoluminescence (PL). The XRD results show that the samples exhibit a monoclinic α‐phase in the crystal structure. The space group of SrAl2O4:Eu,Dy nanophosphors is monoclinic P21. The PL and ML spectra of SrAl2O4:Eu,Dy nanophosphors are excited using light with a wavelength of 365 nm and emission is found at 516 nm. The prepared nanophosphors exhibits an intense ML that can be seen in daylight with the naked eye. When a sample powder is deformed impulsively by the impact of a moving piston, the ML intensity initially increases linearly with time, attains a peak value, Im, at time tm, and then decreases with time. The peak ML intensity, Im, and total ML intensity, IT, increase linearly with applied pressure and impact velocity. The ML intensity decreases with successive impacts of load onto the phosphors, and the diminished ML intensity can be approximately recovered by UV irradiation. The activation energy using thermoluminescence is found to be 0.57 eV for SrAl2O4:Eu,Dy nanophosphors. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The discrete, subthreshold, slow potential fluctuations (SPF's) which can be recorded intracellularly in Limulus ommatidia are sensitive to temperature and light wavelength. SPF frequency increases with increasing temperature (Q10 about 3.5) and light intensity. The effects are additive. SPF rise and decay time decrease with increasing temperature (Q10 between 2 and 3). There is a peak, near 520 nm, in the spectral sensitivity of SPF frequency. This peak may correspond to the wavelength of maximum absorption by rhodopsin in the ommatidia. Hydroxylamine produces a rapid, irreversible reduction of SPF frequency and amplitude perhaps owing to its action on the photopigment. The cornea and crystalline cones fluoresce (peak about 445 nm) when excited by near-ultraviolet energy (380 nm peak) and this fluorescence may influence SPF spectral sensitivity measurements. These findings suggest that the SPF's are the results of photolytic and thermolytic reactions occurring in the ommatidial visual pigments and that they have a role in the mechanisms which transduce light to electrical activity in the visual receptors.  相似文献

We studied the dynamic of respiration intensity during ontogenesis of flat worms (Dugesia tigrina), molluscs (Anodonta piscinalis and Viviparus viviparus, and insects (Leptinotarsa decemlineata). In planarians that reproduce vegetatively, the intensity of respiration increases just after fission and decreases at the subsequent phases of growth. In A. piscinalis, this index of metabolism increases during embryonic and early larval development and decreases at the later developmental stages. In V. viviparus, which develops in the female genital tract, the intensity of respiration remains unchanged during embryogenesis and decreases during late embryogenesis and subsequent phases of growth. In L. decemlineata, the intensity of respiration increases during embryonic and early larval development and then decreases to undergo cyclic changes times to molts. This index markedly decreases in the pupae, increases in the beginning of imaginal period, and then again decreases.  相似文献

The effects of UV (280–400 nm) irradiation on phycobiliprotein composition have been studied in two N2-fixing cyanobacteria, Anabaena sp. and Nostoc carmium, isolated from rice paddy fields in India. Phycobiliproteins were isolated and separated by sucrose density gradient centrifugation. After UV exposure the top fraction mainly contained carotenoids (absorption maximum at 485 nm), which first showed an increase in intensity and absorption and then a gradual decrease with increasing UV exposure in Anabaena sp., whereas, in Nostoc carmium this fraction showed a steady increase over the whole exposure time. The bottom fraction of both organisms mainly contained phycocyanin (absorption peak at 620 nm) which showed a steady decline in intensity, as well as absorption. Fluorescence excitation at 620 nm resulted in an emission at 650 nm which underwent a shift towards shorter wave-lengths with increasing UV-exposure time, indicating a disassembly of the phycobilisomal complex and of impaired energy transfer from accessory pigments to the reaction centers. SDS PAGE analysis of the fractions revealed a loss of high molecular mass linker proteins and low molecular mass (αβ monomers indicating that the phycobiliproteins, which function as accessory pigments for the operation of photosystem II, disassemble during UV irradiation.  相似文献

干旱对杉木幼苗根系构型及非结构性碳水化合物的影响   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
通过比较不同时期不同强度干旱胁迫下杉木1年生盆栽苗地上部分生长、根系构型以及根系中非结构性碳水化合物含量(TNC)的变化,并分析各指标之间的相关性,探究杉木根系在干旱胁迫下的适应性策略以及抗旱生理机制,以期为杉木造林生产和水分管理提供科学依据和技术指导。结果表明:随着干旱程度的加强,杉木幼苗地上部分干重(SDW)、根干重(RDW)、根长(RL)、根表面积(SA)、根体积(RV)、根尖数(RT)、根系分支角度(Angle)、分形维数(FD)逐渐减小,根冠比(R/T)逐渐增大,根系拓扑指数(TI)、根系平均直径(RD)先增大后减小,比根长(SRL)先减小后增大。而根系连接长度(LL)、TNC、糖淀比在不同时期表现出不同的趋势。连接长度随着干旱胁迫的加强在30 d和60 d时表现出逐渐增加趋势而在90 d时则表现出先减小后增大的趋势。TNC在30 d和60 d时先增大后减小,但90 d时,呈逐渐下降的趋势。糖淀比随着干旱胁迫的加强在30 d和60 d时表现出先增加后减小趋势,90 d时,表现为先减小后增大。干旱胁迫显著影响根系在不同径级的分布长度,且随着胁迫时间的延长不断变化。杉木地上部分生长与根系生长指标(RL、SA、RV、RT、RDW)以及根系构型指标(Angle、FD)之间存在显著的正相关(P < 0.01),根系平均直径与TNC存在显著的正相关(P < 0.05)。总之,杉木通过增加根系光合产物的积累、提高根系建成成本,增加有限成本下根系的复杂程度和延伸范围,降低根系分支角度,使根系"更陡更深"来适应不同强度的干旱胁迫。  相似文献

The temperature dependence (from 10° to 50°C) of the intracellular action potentials' parameters in a fiber with a simulated reorganization of the axonal membrane against the background of a systematic paranodal demyelination of the fiber was investigated. The temporal and spatial distribution of the potential as well as the ionic currents' kinetics have been represented. The reorganization of the axonal membrane was achieved by means of potassium channels blocking and increase of the sodium-channel permeability, while the demyelination was achieved by means of elongation of the nodes of Ranvier. In order to account for the temperature dependence of the rate constants and of the maximal sodium and potassium permeabilities, the temperature coefficients (Q 10) have been used. It has been shown for the demyelinated and reorganized membrane that increased temperature blocks the conduction at temperatures much higher than the blocking temperature for the demyelinated fiber only. When temperature increases the amplitude of the potential decreases while the velocity increases up to temperatures approching the blocking temperature after which it abruptly drops. The dependence of the asymmetry and the wavelength of the potential on temperature is complex and nonmonotonic. For the reorganized membrane at the background of a given degree of demyelination with increasing temperature the ionic currents' flow and the membrane conduction respectively increase, but, at lower temperatures, when the temperature increase is combined with the increased degree of the fiber demyelination, the conduction is blocked.  相似文献

We have studied the on-transient of the receptor potential of the barnacle photoreceptor. Its amplitude has previously been shown to depend on light intensity and state of light-dark adaptation. We have examined its dependence on 1) the presence of a prolonged depolarizing afterpotential (PDA), 2) a background light, 3) added alcohol, or 4) decreased K+ concentration in the bath. We find that the relative on-transient amplitude tends to increase initially with increasing depolarization arising from 1)–4) and then to decrease again at higher depolarization. This behavior is qualitatively explainable by the cell's currentvoltage characteristics and by the adapting effect of the stimulus on the conductances arising from the PDA, the background light and the alcohol.Based on material presented at the European Neurosciences Meeting, Florence, September 1978  相似文献

The properties of the pacemaker controlling the adult locomotor activity rhythm of the high‐altitude Himalayan (haH) strain (Hemkund Sahib, 4121 m above sea level) of Drosophila helvetica are strikingly different from those of the low‐altitude Himalayan (laH) strain (Birahi, 1132 m above sea level) of the same species. The haH strain has a unimodal activity pattern with a delayed peak occurring about 4.5 h after lights‐on of the entraining light‐dark (LD) cycle, while the laH strain has a bimodal activity pattern with the morning and evening peaks. It is rather unusual for a wild type strain of any Drosophila species to have a unimodal activity pattern during entrainment as observed in the haH strain. The single activity peak of the haH strain is regarded as a consequence of delayed morning peak merging with the evening one. Three experiments were performed to test this hypothesis. The first experiment examined whether the single activity peak could be dissociated into two components by LD cycles in which photoperiods varied from 10 to 16 h per 24 h. The haH strain again exhibited a unimodal activity pattern with a delayed peak in 10, 12, and 14 h photoperiods but a bimodal activity pattern in 16 h photoperiod. The laH strain had bimodality in 10 and 12 h photoperiods, unimodality in a 14 h photoperiod, but complete arrhythmicity in a 16 h photoperiod.

In the second experiment, the haH flies were transferred from LD 16∶8 to LL at 5 lux to confirm whether the bimodality of this strain in LD 16∶8 cycles was not the result of masking by the long photoperiod of 16 h. Bimodality of the haH strain persisted in LL too; moreover, the morning component free‐ran with period (τ) <24 h, while the evening component free‐ran with τ>24 h. The third experiment examined the LL‐induced splitting of activity peak of the haH strain. Flies were transferred from LD 12∶12 cycles to LL at 0, 1, 5, and 15 lux. The haH strain was rhythmic in LL at 0 and 1 lux with a unimodal activity pattern. It was also rhythmic in LL at 5 lux, but the single activity peak was split into two discrete components; the morning component free‐ran with τ<24 h, while the evening component free‐ran with τ>24 h. This strain, however, was completely arrhythmic in LL at 15 lux. The laH strain was uniformly arrhythmic in LL at all levels of light intensity. These results suggest that the single but late activity component of the haH strain during entrainment appears to be the consequence of merging the delayed morning peak with the evening one as an adaptation to the environmental conditions at the altitude of origin of this strain, where these flies begin activity in the forenoon owing to non‐permissible low temperature in the morning.  相似文献

Summary The Rate-temperature (R-T) curve for S. dichotomus tends to reach a peak at 30°C in both sexes in all the weight groups. The age peculiarities of cross-linking degree, thermodynamic and mechanic properties of rat tail tendon collagen fibres were investigated. It is shown that during the period from 1 to 3 months the melting temperature decreases and the enthalpy difference increases, from 3 to 24 months the melting temperature increases and the enthalpy difference decreases. The strength of fibres increases during the whole life. The maximal relative extension increases during the first 12 months and tends to decrease in after-life. The Young's module in the elastic deformation region decreases during the period from 1 to 3 months, then increases. It is shown tht those changes in fibre properties may be connected with the age dynamics of collagen cross-linking degree observed here: its decreasing during the period from 1 to 3 months and its following continuous increasing in after-life.  相似文献

Li3PO4 phosphors prepared by solid‐state diffusion technique and lyoluminescence (LL) as well as mechanoluminescence (ML) studies are reported. Dy‐ and Tb‐activated phosphors show dosimetric characteristics using LL and ML techniques. The energy levels and hence trapping and detrapping of charge carriers in the material can be studied using ML. Li3PO4 phosphor can be used in the dosimetric applications for ionizing radiation. By using the LL technique, the LL characteristics of Li3PO4 may be useful for high radiation doses. We also report a more detailed theoretical understanding of the mechanism of LL and ML.
