Lipid peroxidation contributes to the damage of the sperm plasma membrane. In different species, dietary supplementation with antioxidants has been shown to improve semen quality. Therefore, we tested effects of dietary supplementation with antioxidants and l-carnitin on semen quality in Shetland pony stallions (n=6). Semen was collected twice a week over a time period of 16 weeks. From weeks 5 to 12, a special diet for stallions containing a variety of antioxidants (STALLION, Pavo Pferdenahrung GmbH, Goch, Germany; tocopherol 300 mg/day; ascorbic acid 300 mg/day; l-carnitin 4000 mg/day; folic acid 12 mg/day) was added to the basal diet (hay, mineral supplements, water). Ejaculates were evaluated for total sperm count, semen motility (percentage of totally and progressively motile spermatozoa, longevity for 24 h at 5 degrees C) and membrane integrity (SYBR-14/PI staining): All values given are means+/-S.E.M. No changes in motility, progressive motility and membrane integrity or semen longevity for 24 h were detected. A slight but significant reduction of morphologically abnormal spermatozoa was found (weeks 1-4: 43.7+/-7.1%; weeks 13-16: 39.4+/-7.2%, p<0.05). Results show that a supplementary diet with antioxidants in the given concentration and duration does not result in pronounced effects on semen quality of stallions. It is therefore questionable to support stallions with dietary antioxidants as long as they receive an adequately balanced basal diet.  相似文献

Handling procedures for semen to be used at the stud-farm and for transport are reviewed. Proper handling of semen is required throughout the entire process, from semen collection to the insemination of the mare. Semen shall not be exposed to mechanical damage, light, cold or heat. All equipment that comes in contact with semen must be warm, clean, dry and free from toxic residues. Skim-milk extender appears to be the medium best suited for the preservation of stallion semen during cooling and storage. When used immediately, semen is usually extended 1:1 (v:v), but for transport, concentrations of 25 to 100 x 10(6) spermatozoa/mL are recommended. The proportion of semen plasma should be reduced to < 20%. by centrifuging, by collecting only the first 3 sperm-rich fractions, or by substantially diluting of the ejaculate. The storage temperature can be between 20 to 15 degrees C, if shipment time is no more than 12 h; for longer storage, temperatures < 10 degrees C are recommended. Semen can be cooled rapidly from 35 to 19 degrees C. In the temperature zone between 19 and 8 degrees C, stallion spermatozoa are sensitive to cold shock, and the cooling rate should be slowed to 0.05 degrees C/min. Rapid cooling can be resumed below 8 degrees C. At low temperatures, removal of oxygen-rich air is beneficial for the survival of spermatozoa. The Equitainer transport container keeps a constant temperature of 5 degrees C for 48 h and is therefore recommended for transportation lasting over 24 h.  相似文献

Eight stallions were used in 2 x 2 crossover study to determine if feeding a nutriceutical rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) would improve semen quality. Stallions were randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups (n = 4 per group). Stallions were fed their normal diet (control) or their normal diet top-dressed with 250 g of a DHA-enriched nutriceutical. Feeding trials lasted for 14 week, after which a 14-week washout period was allowed and the treatment groups were reversed for another 14 week feeding trial. Feeding the nutriceutical resulted in a three-fold increase in semen DHA levels and 50% increase in the ratio of DHA to DPA in semen. Sperm motion characteristics in fresh semen were unaffected by treatment. After 24 h of cooled semen storage in an Equitainer, total and progressive motility did not differ between treatment groups, but sperm from stallions fed the nutriceutical exhibited higher velocity and straighter projectory (P < 0.05). After 48 h of cooled storage, increases in the percentages of sperm exhibiting total motility (P = 0.07), progressive motility (P = 0.06) and rapid motility (P = 0.04), were observed when stallions were being fed the nutriceutical. For a subset of four stallions, whose progressive sperm motility was <40% after 24 h of cooled storage when fed the control diet, feeding the nutriceutical resulted in improvements in mean progressive motility of sperm after 24 h (P = 0.10) and 48 h (P = 0.03) of storage. Feeding the nutriceutical resulted in similar improvements in motion characteristics being observed in frozen-thawed semen. While it appears that feeding the nutriceutical may improve the motion characteristics of cool-stored stallion semen, it may be most beneficial for stallions of marginal fertility whose sperm do not tolerate the rigors of cooling and storage. The nutriceutical also appeared to improve the freezability of semen. More dramatic improvements in semen quality may be observed if modifications in the main fat content of the diet are incorporated with the DHA supplement.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate quality of chilled dog semen processed with extenders containing various antioxidants. Single ejaculates from five dogs were always pooled and evaluated for concentration, sperm motility, progressive motility (RSF-movement), viability, acrosomal integrity and by the hypo-osmotic swelling (HOS)-test. Also, superoxide (O(2)(-)) production, hydroxyl radicals (OH) and total reactive oxygen species (tROS) were determined. Pooled semen was divided in seven aliquots (for control and test conditions), which were diluted to a final concentration of 67x10(6)spermatozoa/ml with TRIS-glucose-egg yolk extender with or without the following supplements: control (without antioxidants), vitamin C (0.5mM), N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC; 0.5mM), taurine (0.2mM), catalase (100u/ml), vitamin E (0.1mM) and 5-(4-dimethylamino-phenyl)-2-phenyl-penta-2,4-dienoic acid (B16; 0.1mM). The semen aliquots were chilled and preserved at 4 degrees C. Portions of chilled semen were removed at 24 and 72h, and semen quality was evaluated after rewarming. At 24h the mean (+/-S.E.M.) sperm motility was higher (p<0.001) when vitamin E, taurine and B16 were added in the extender, whereas more spermatozoa with RSF-movement were observed (p<0.001) in the vitamin E, catalase, B16 and taurine groups. Sperm viability was higher (p=0.040) in B16 and vitamin E groups and the percentage of swollen spermatozoa was higher (p=0.002) only in the B16 group. Acrosomal integrity and OH were not significantly influenced by any of the antioxidants tested. Superoxide production was significantly lower when vitamin C, B16 and vitamin E were added in semen extenders compared with the control (p=0.017). All antioxidant groups, except vitamin C and NAC, contained less tROS compared to the control group, but only the B16 group value differed significantly (p=0.05). At 72h sperm motility was higher (p<0.001) when vitamin E, catalase, B16, taurine and NAC were added in the extender. More spermatozoa with RSF-movement were observed (p<0.001) in the vitamin E, catalase, B16, taurine and NAC treatment groups. Sperm viability was higher (p=0.001) when vitamin E, B16, taurine and vitamin C were added in semen extenders. HOS-test percentages were higher (p=0.016) in the B16, vitamin E, catalase and NAC groups. Acrosomal integrity was not influenced in any case. Production of O(2)(-) was significantly higher using catalase compared to all the other groups (p=0.006), while OH was not significantly influenced by any of the antioxidants tested. The addition of vitamin E, catalase and B16 in semen extenders resulted in significantly lower tROS values compared with the controls (p<0.0005). The results suggest that vitamin E and B16 had the most pronounced effect in preserving semen quality of chilled dog spermatozoa.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate post-thaw quality of frozen dog semen processed with diluents containing different antioxidants. Ejaculates were collected, pooled and evaluated for concentration, motility, rapid steady forward movement (RSF movement), viability, acrosomal integrity and by the hypo-osmotic swelling test. Also, superoxide production, hydroxyl radicals and total reactive oxygen species (tROS) were determined. The pool was divided in seven aliquots, for control and test conditions, which were processed for cryopreservation. The sperm pellets were diluted to a final concentration of 200x10(6)sperm/ml with TRIS-glucose-egg yolk extender containing one of the following supplements: vitamin C (1.5mM), NAC (N-acetyl-l-cysteine; 1.5mM), taurine (0.6mM), catalase (300U/ml), vitamin E (0.3mM) and B16 [5-(4-dimethylamino-phenyl)-2-phenyl-penta-2,4-dienoic acid; 0.3mM]. Post-thaw semen evaluation showed that mean (+/-S.E.M.) motility was increased (p<0.001) after addition of catalase (49.75+/-3.63 versus 39.00+/-2.90 in controls), whereas more spermatozoa with RSF movement were observed (p<0.001) after the catalase, NAC and vitamin E treatments (31.75+/-3.46, 28.00+/-3.27, 26.75+/-3.15, respectively, versus 17.00+/-2.26 in controls). Viability was increased (p<0.001) after addition of catalase, taurine, NAC and tocopherol (66.00+/-3.03, 61.90+/-2.48, 60.60+/-1.93 and 60.50+/-4.12, respectively, versus 51.70+/-2.81 in controls). The percentage of swollen spermatozoa was increased after addition of catalase and taurine (61.75+/-1.61 and 61.25+/-1.49, respectively, versus 55.65+/-1.64 in controls). Acrosomal integrity was not influenced in any case. B16 addition had adverse effects on all parameters evaluated. None of the reactive oxygen species were significantly reduced post-thaw in antioxidant treated semen. The results suggest that catalase had the most pronounced effect in improving post-thaw quality of canine spermatozoa.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of supplementation of semen extender with various non-enzymatic antioxidants on the quality of cooled or cryopreserved Arabian stallion spermatozoa. Semen collected from four pure Arabian stallions was centrifuged at 600g for 15 min. Spermatozoa were then diluted in INRA-82 extender supplemented with bovine serum albumin (BSA; 0, 10, 15 and 20 mg/mL) or trehalose (0, 75, 100 and 150 mM) or zinc sulphate (0, 100, 150 and 200 μM). The diluted semen was then either cooled at 5 °C or cryopreserved in 0.5–ml plastic straws. After cooling or thawing, sperm motility, viability, sperm abnormalities, viability index, and plasma membrane integrity were evaluated. The results showed that supplementation of semen extender with 150 mM trehalose or with 200 μM zinc sulphate significantly (P < 0.05) improved motility, viability, sperm membrane integrity and acrosome status in Arabian stallion spermatozoa after cooling or after freezing and thawing compared with controls (non-supplemented media) or with those supplemented with other concentrations of trehalose or zinc sulphate. Supplementation of semen extender with BSA did not improve sperm motility or cryosurvival of Arabian stallion spermatozoa after cooling or after freezing and thawing. In conclusion, supplementation of semen extender with non-enzymatic antioxidants (trehalose or zinc sulphate) improved the quality of chilled and frozen/thawed Arabian stallion spermatozoa. The most beneficial effects occur when semen diluent was supplemented with 150 mM trehalose or 200 μM zinc sulphate.  相似文献

Eleven mycoplasma strains were isolated from the semen of 24 stallions. Eight of these strains metabolized glucose and three hydrolyzed arginine. Serological examination by growth inhibition test (GIT) did not allow these strains to be identified. Arginine-degrading strains were not inhibited by antisera against three human mycoplasma strains, M. arginini and M. equirhinis. It was shown, however, by GIT, that all of the glucose-positive strains were antigenically related but that the three arginine-positive strains had a different antigenic structure.A comparison of indices from routine semen examination and certain biochemical components of the semen plasma from ejaculates with and without mycoplasma showed statistically lower levels (P ? 0.01) of glycerylphosphorylcholine, ergothioneine, fructose and total protein in the semen plasma of infected ejaculates than in that of ejaculates without mycoplasma.  相似文献

In some species, dietary supplementation with L-carnitine has been reported to increase sperm concentration and sperm motility. The objective of these experiments was to test the hypothesis that L-carnitine supplementation improves the semen characteristics of boars. In Experiment 1, boars (258 days of age) were fed daily a control diet (n = 9) or the control diet plus L-carnitine (500mg per day; n = 9 ). Semen was collected weekly from Weeks 0 to 15 and on 4 consecutive days during Week 16. Experiment 2 was similar to Experiment 1 except boars ( n = 10 per treatment) were 504 days of age. For the weekly and intensive collections there were no consistently positive effects of treatment on semen volume, sperm concentration, total spermatozoa, or sperm motility. Spermatozoa from L-carnitine-treated boars did not display an enhanced ability to maintain motility during 7-day liquid storage. In conclusion, indicators of semen quality were not enhanced by dietary supplementation of L-carnitine in boars.  相似文献

The purpose of the experiment was to obtain preparatory information about the presence of prostaglandins in semen collected from various types of horses after different periods of sexual rest. Semen was collected with an artificial vagina. Prostaglandin-like activity was estimated by the bioassay procedure described by Vane (1). Results are expressed in ng/ml PGE(2) of seminal plasma. The total concentration of prostaglandins in the full ejaculate averaged 43.73 +/- 4.93 ng/ml of plasma while the total amount of prostaglandins in the ejaculate was 1076 ng. Taking into consideration the period of sexual rest in the stallion, statistically significant differences were found in the prostaglandin level in the semen of all the stallions.  相似文献

Diluents and various biological products have been used in different animal species, with promising outcomes in post-thaw sperm quality. Nevertheless, only a few reports are available for the semen of Arabian horses. Edible bird’s nest (EBN) – a product of the salivary secretions of swiftlet species is widely known to have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Presently, there is no data available on the role of EBN supplemented in different extenders and its effect on semen quality in stallion semen. Two in vitro experiments were conducted to examine the effects of edible bird’s nest (EBN) on the quality of chilled and post-thawed cryopreserved Arabian stallion spermatozoa. In experiment one, 10 ejaculates were collected, divided into two equal parts, diluted using EquiPlus® and INRA 96® and supplemented with 0 % (control), 0.12 %, 0.24 % EBN concentrations. The semen samples were stored at 5 ℃ and observed at 0, 24, and 48 h. Sperm kinetics variables (% total motility [TM] and progressive motility [PM], curvilinear velocity; VCL, straightness; VSL, average path velocity; VAP) were analyzed using computerized assisted sperm analysis. For chilled semen, there was no significant difference in any of the sperm quality parameters between control (0 %), 0.12 %, and 0.24 % EBN supplementation either in INRA96® or EquiPlus®. In experiment two, nine ejaculates were diluted and cryopreserved using EquiPlus Freeze® and INRA Freeze® containing 0 %, 2.4 %, and 4.8 % EBN, and evaluated after thawing. Sperm kinetics, DNA integrity and antioxidant capacity - Biological Anti-oxidant Potential (BAP) and Reactive Oxygen Metabolites (d-ROMs) test were evaluated. In chilled semen, there was no significant difference in any of the sperm quality parameters between control (0 %), 0.12 %, and 0.24 % EBN supplementation either in INRA96® or EquiPlus®. For frozen semen supplemented with 2.4 % and 4.8 % EBN had higher sperm motility parameters compared to control in INRA Freeze® and EquiPlus Freeze®, but the values were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Also, EBN supplementation had no significant effects on the DNA integrity, biological antioxidant potential, and reactive oxygen metabolites. Season had a pronounced effect upon seminal pH and refractometer 'protein', total carbohydrate, dry weight, total N2 and lactic acid in seminal plasma of first and second ejaculates. In addition, total seminal volume, spermatozoa per ml and per ejaculate, non-protein sulphhydryl and glycerylphosphorylcholine of second ejaculates were also influenced. There was a season difference in the concentrations of lactic acid in spermatozoa from first and in total N2 from spermatozoa in second ejaculates. The effects of season on seminal plasma were greater than those on spermatozoa. Spermatozoa in first ejaculates were less affected by season than those in secons ejaculates. This differential effect on first and second ejaculates was generally true of all seminal characteristics.  相似文献

Poultry meat is a valuable source of nutrients and the enrichment with health-promoting substances such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) is an important factor for consumers’ choice. Camelina meal (Camelina sativa) is an animal feedstuff used to achieve this goal, but the administration of n-3 PUFA-enriched diets in broiler nutrition can accelerate the oxidative processes in meat leading to a decreased quality of final product. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the organic Cr as chromium picolinate (CrPic) on meat quality, fatty acid profile of fat and oxidative stability of meat from broilers fed supplemented dietary Camelina meal. An experiment was conducted on 240 Ross 308 broiler chicken aged 14 days which were assigned to 6 dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design with a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement. Within the treatment arrangement two concentrations of Camelina meal (0% and 3%) and three concentrations of Cr3+ (0, 200 and 400 μg/kg) were used. Dietary treatments were: (1) Control diet (C) containing a corn–soybean diet with no added Camelina meal or Cr3+; (2) a C diet containing an additional 200 μg/kg of Cr3+ as CrPic; (3) a C diet containing an additional 400 μg/kg of Cr3+ as CrPic; (4) a C diet containing an additional 3% Camelina meal; (5) diet 2 containing an additional 3% Camelina meal; (6) diet 3 containing an additional 3% Camelina meal. Chromium supplementation significantly (P<0.05) increased the CP concentrations and significantly (P<0.05) decreased the crude fat concentrations in breast samples. The Camelina meal groups presented higher values of unsaturated fatty acids, particularly n-3 fatty acids (P<0.05). In CrPic groups, increased retention of Zn and Fe (P < 0.05) was observed in breast samples, compared to control group, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances values were significantly (P<0.05) smaller. Myoglobin fraction (metmyoglobin and oximyoglobin) concentrations differ significantly (P<0.05) from the control group, under the influence of Cr3+ supplements. This study found that broilers fed with CrPic supplements showed improved mineral composition and oxidative stability of breast meat, proving an effective protection of lipid molecules from oxidation in PUFA-enriched meat.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate changes of quality and freezability of stallion semen in response to repeated acute treadmill exercise. Ejaculates from 11 stallions were collected, evaluated and frozen weekly during four periods of 4 weeks each defined as before (period 1), during (period 2) and after (periods 3 and 4) intense exercise. In fresh semen the gel-free volume, sperm concentration, motility, normal sperm and sperm with major defects (acrosome defects, nuclear vacuoles, abnormal heads, midpiece defects and proximal droplets) were evaluated. In frozen-thawed semen, motility as well as viability (SYBR-14/PI) were examined. In period 2, all stallions were exercised on an indoor high speed treadmill twice a week (total of eight sessions) using an incremental workload test. Heart rate was monitored telemetrically during exercise and blood samples were taken for determination of cortisol, testosterone and lactate. Results of our investigation demonstrate that heart rate and the plasma concentrations of cortisol, testosterone and lactate significantly (P < 0.05) increased during each exercise session. Furthermore, significantly more major sperm defects were present in periods 3 (69.5+/-2.1%) and 4 (66.8+/-2.1%) than in periods 1 (62.2+/-2.4%) and 2 (62.5+/-2.2%). Acrosome defects increased towards the end of exercise but improved 3 weeks later to values observed before exercise. In frozen-thawed semen, motility was significantly lower in period 2 (45.4+/-2.3%) compared to period 4 (51.6+/-1.7%) and viability was significantly lower in period 2 (49.2+/-2.0%) than in periods 1 (53.8+/-2.1%) and 4 (53.7+/-1.6%). Our results clearly demonstrate that in the stallion repeated strenuous treadmill exercise can negatively influence semen quality and freezability.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate seasonal changes in stallion semen quality and to determine the best time for semen cryopreservation. Experiments were performed using 10 Warmblood stallions from the National Stud Farm in Avenches (Switzerland). Ejaculates were collected and frozen every other week during 1 year from January to December 1999. Volume, concentration, and motility, and the number of morphologically normal sperm and sperm with major defects (abnormal heads, acrosome defects, nuclear vacuoles, proximal droplets, abnormal midpieces) were evaluated. For all frozen-thawed semen samples motility as well as viability (SYBR-14/PI) was tested, and the hypoosmotic swelling test (HOS) was performed. To analyze seasonal differences 4 periods of 3 months each were defined: autumn (September, October, November), winter (December, January, February), spring (March, April, May) and summer (June, July, August). During the 1 year experiment all semen quality parameters showed a clear seasonal pattern. The volume, total sperm count and motility in fresh semen were significantly higher (P<0.05) in summer than in winter, while sperm concentration was significantly lower in summer compared to the other seasons. Regarding morphology, normal sperm was significantly lower (P<0.05) in summer than at any other time of the year and higher values (P<0.05) were found for major defects in summer than in spring and autumn. In frozen-thawed semen motility was significantly (P<0.05) improved in autumn when compared to spring and summer. Viability was lowest in summer and differed significantly (P<0.05) from other seasons. The HOS test revealed significantly more (P<0.05) membrane damaged spermatozoa in winter than in spring, summer and autumn. Our results demonstrate that in our climatic conditions clear seasonal differences occur in semen quality of fresh and frozen-thawed semen and that cryopreservation of stallion semen should preferably be performed in autumn.  相似文献

The conventional approach to evaluation of stallion semen dates back several decades, and includes evaluation of spermatozoal concentration, semen volume, spermatozoon morphological characteristics, and spermatozoal motility patterns initially and following in-vitro storage. While an analysis performed in this manner does have predictive value, incorporation of some more newly developed techniques may improve the predictive value of the examination. This communication addresses some newer tests that can be applied today for evaluation of semen, as well some tests that may be available in the coming years.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation of rams on semen quality and subsequent sperm function of liquid stored semen. Mature rams of proven fertility were individually housed and were blocked according to breed, body weight, and body condition score and randomly allocated within block to one of two dietary treatments (N = 7 per treatment). Rams were offered a base diet of hay and concentrate, with the concentrate enriched with either: (1) saturated palmitic acid (CON) or (2) high n-3 PUFA fish oil (FO) supplements. Both lipid supplements were added at 2% (wt/wt) of the total diet as fed and both were partially rumen-protected. The animals were fed their respective diets for a total of 9 weeks and blood samples were collected on weeks 0 (pre-experimental), 4, and 9, relative to initial allocation of diet (week 0), for measurement of plasma concentration of fatty acids, metabolites, insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and insulin. Semen was collected from each ram (on 1 day in each week) in weeks 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9, and each ejaculate was assessed for volume, wave motion, and concentration of sperm, after which it was diluted in a skim milk-based extender and stored at 4 °C. A second ejaculate was collected on weeks 4, 7, and 9, centrifuged, and the sperm frozen for subsequent lipid analysis. A sample of semen from each ram was assessed at 24, 48, and 72 hours after collection for sperm progressive linear motion, ability to penetrate artificial mucus, and the ability to resist lipid peroxidation (at 24 and 48 hours only) using the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances assay. There was no effect of diet on plasma insulin concentrations or on any of the metabolites measured, however, there was a diet by week interaction for plasma IGF-1 concentration (P < 0.05). This was manifested as the FO supplemented rams having higher IGF-1 concentrations on week 9 compared with the control treatment (P < 0.05), but not at the earlier sampling dates. Compared with the pre-experimental values, supplementation with FO increased plasma concentrations of total n-3 PUFAs by 3.1-fold and decreased n-6 PUFA concentrations by 1.84-fold. Consequently, the ratio of n-6 to n-3 PUFA was decreased in the FO-supplemented rams (P < 0.001). Dietary supplementation with FO increased the concentration of eicosapentaenoic acid in sperm from week 4 to 9 by 2.7-fold (P < 0.05) leading to a 1.5-fold increase in total n-3 PUFA in the same period. Ejaculates collected from rams supplemented with FO yielded a higher semen concentration (P < 0.05), however, there was no difference between diets on any of the other semen quality parameters including semen volume, wave motion, progressive linear motion, ability to penetrate artificial mucus, or ability to resist lipid peroxidation. In conclusion, dietary supplementation of rams with n-3 PUFA successfully increased the n-3 PUFA content of plasma and sperm but has limited effects on the quality of liquid stored semen.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) vedaprofen (Quadrisol) on quality and freezability of stallion semen. Experiments were performed using 22 Franches Montagnes stallions from the National Stud in Avenches (Switzerland) randomly divided into a control and test group. Vedaprofen was given orally to all stallions of the test group at the recommended therapeutic dose (initial dose of 2mg/kg followed by 1mg/kg body weight every 12h) for 14 days. Control animals received the same amount of carrier substance. During treatment, blood samples of five stallions in both test and control group were collected for PGF(2 alpha)-metabolite (PG-metabolite) determination. Ejaculates from all stallions were collected and cryopreserved weekly for 14 weeks from September to December. Concentrations of PG-metabolite, PGF and PGE were measured in the seminal plasma of ejaculates collected 2 weeks before, during and 2 weeks after treatment. In fresh semen the volume, concentration, motility and number of normal sperm and sperm with major defects (acrosome defects, abnormal heads, nuclear vacuoles, proximal droplets, midpiece defects) were evaluated. In frozen-thawed semen samples motility as well as viability (SYBR-14/PI) were tested and the hypoosmotic swelling test (HOS) was performed. Results demonstrate that vedaprofen had no effect on blood plasma concentration of PG-metabolite but significantly inhibited both, PGF and PGE concentrations in seminal plasma. Furthermore, all quality parameters in fresh and frozen-thawed semen were not affected by vedaprofen treatment but the time of semen collection had a significant (P<0.05) effect on motility, normal sperm and sperm with nuclear vacuoles in fresh semen.  相似文献
