Sexually active male Japanese quail (Coturnix coutrnix Japonica) produce a foamy substance from their cloacal gland. It was postulated that bacteria played an important role in production of foam. The primary objective of this study was to isolate and identify bacteria present in the cloacal foam. The secondary objective was to evaluate the effect of fluoroquinolone treatment on bacterial counts and foam production. Healthy adult Japanese quail were maintained in individual cages under uniform husbandry conditions and allocated arbitrarily into three groups (each group consisted of 12 male and 12 female birds). Foam was collected from the cloacal gland of male birds of each group separately into sterile petri dishes and was cultured to isolate and identify bacteria and to determine their sensitivity to various antibiotics. Escherichia coli bacteria, sensitive to various antibacterials (including the fluoroquinolones ciprofloxacin and pefloxacin), were isolated. In the second part of the study, male quails of Group I (control) received I mL vehicle (normal saline 0.9% (w/v) NaCl) daily (via the intraperitoneal route) for 12 days. Male birds from groups II and III were treated intraperitoneally with ciprofloxacin or pefloxacin at the rate of 10 mg and 12 mg per/kg body weight respectively, for 12 days. In antibiotic-treated birds, there was a gradual reduction in foam production during treatment. At the end of treatment, the cloacal gland area was smaller (P < 0.05) in pefloxacin-treated birds compared to the other groups. Furthermore, a trend towards decreasing body weight and fertilizing ability was noted in the same group. A drastic reduction in bacterial counts of foam was recorded only in fluoroquinolone-treated groups during treatment period. After cessation of treatment, all end points were increasing back to pre-treatment levels. In conclusion, E. coli were present in the foam of the cloacal gland of Japanese quail and may have a role in foam production.  相似文献

This study was designed to test whether Mucuna pruriens, a natural source of l-dihydroxyphenylalanine (l-DOPA, a dopamine precursor) feeding, can influence development and reproductive conditions in the high food value bird, Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica. Experiments were performed in both male and female Japanese quail. One-week-old quail chicks were divided into three groups of 36 birds each. Group I was provided with normal diet and served as control. Group II was provided with food mixed with l-DOPA (50 mg/15 g food) and Group III was provided with food mixed with M. pruriens seed powder (480 g/kg food). At the age of 3 weeks (when birds were sexually distinguished) Group I was divided into two sub-groups IA (male) and IB (female) of six birds each. Similarly, Groups II and III were sub-divided into IIA (male), IIB (female) and IIIA (male), IIIB (female), respectively, of six birds each. Observations were made up to the age of 5 weeks. Male experimental groups (IIA and IIIA) showed significantly increased testicular activity, cloacal gland volume, body weight (BW), plasma testosterone and LH level in comparison to control (IA). Similarly female experimental groups (IIB and IIIB) showed significantly greater weight of reproductive organs (uterus, ovary, oviduct and ovarian follicle), BW, egg weight and size and number of follicles. On the other hand, plasma prolactin level was significantly low in comparison to control (IB). Results suggest that M. pruriens is a rich natural source of l-DOPA and the development and reproduction in Japanese quail might be associated with the dopaminergic system of the brain.  相似文献

Fifteen Murrah buffalo calves (age about 10 months, 163-176 kg BW) were divided into three groups. Group I (Control) was fed a complete feed mixture consisted of 50% wheat straw and 50% concentrate mixture (contained per kg: maize 330 g, groundnut cake 210 g, mustard cake 120 g, wheat bran 200 g, de-oiled rice bran 110 g, mineral mixture 20 g and common salt 10 g) along with 2 kg green oats per animal and day to meet the vitamin A requirements. Calves of Groups II and III were fed with the Control diet supplemented with Orpinomyces sp. C-14 and Piromyces sp. WNG-12 cultures, respectively. The digestibility of DM was significantly highest with Piromyces sp. WNG-12 in Group III (62.2%) followed by Orpinomyces sp. C-14 in Group II (60.3%), and Control (53.5%). A similar pattern of increase in digestibility of crude protein and cell-wall contents was observed in treatment groups. The digestible energy in terms of percent total digestible nutrients was also significantly enhanced in Groups II (56.6%) and III (59.9%) when compared to Control (49.2%). The rumen fermentation parameters such as pH and NH3-N were found to be lower, whereas total nitrogen, tricarboxylic acid precipitable-, nitrogen, total volatile fatty acids and zoospore counts per millilitre of rumen liquor were significantly higher in fungal administered groups. After administration of fungal cultures, improvements of animal growth rate (i.e. body weight gain) and feed efficiency were also observed.  相似文献

Circulating fatty acids are normally transported principally bound to serum albumin. We examined whether administering oleic acid (OA) in a concentrated albumin solution would attenuate its edemogenic potential in the isolated dog lung lobe perfused with a solution nearly depleted of blood cellular and protein components. The isolated ventilated lower left lobe (LLL) was perfused (7.3 +/- 0.6 ml X min-1 X g LLL-1) with a balanced salt solution containing 6% dextran and approximately 10% serum (vol/vol). Hourly weight gain, net LLL weight gain, and wet-to-dry weight ratio (W/D) were used as indices of extravascular lung fluid changes. Group I lobes (n = 5) were given saline, whereas both group II (n = 5) and III (n = 5) lobes were administered 1 microliter OA/kg body wt. The OA was incubated with 5 ml of albumin solution containing approximately 640 mg of bovine fatty acid-free albumin before infusion into group III lobes. Group I gained weight at rate of 10.8 +/- 0.5 g X h-1 X 100 g LLL-1 after saline, whereas group II exhibited a greater (P less than 0.005) rate of weight gain of 42 +/- 13 after OA. Group III weight gain of 8.4 +/- 0.5 g X h-1 X 100 g LLL-1 was not different (P greater than 0.05) from group I but was lower (P less than 0.005) than group II.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Twenty-four growing male buffalo calves (one year of age; 88.54 +/- 3.81 kg average body weight) were divided into three comparable groups (I, II and III) on the basis of their body weight (BW) in a completely randomised design to study the effect of long term feeding of ammoniated wheat straw (AWS) and hydrochloric acid treated ammoniated wheat straw (HCl-AWS) on blood biochemical changes. The animals were offered a concentrate mixture (CM) along with wheat straw (WS), ammoniated wheat straw (AWS) (4% urea at a 50% moisture level) and hydrochloric acid treated ammoniated wheat straw (HCI-AWS) (4% urea at a 50% moisture level and HCI added to trap 30% of NH3 evolved) in groups I, II and III, respectively for an average daily gain (ADG) of 500 g. All the diets were made iso-nitrogenous by preparing three types of concentrate mixtures of different CP levels. The blood was collected from the jugular vein randomly from three animals of each group initially after 8 months post feeding and subsequently after two months interval up to 14 months of experimental feeding. Due to urea ammoniation, the CP content of WS increased from 3.66 to 8.51 and was further increased to 11.35 due to the addition of HCl during urea-ammoniation of wheat straw. The cumulative period mean plasma glucose values (mg %), in group II (53.13) were significantly (P < 0.001) higher than those in groups I (48.44) and III (50.60). The cumulative period mean values of serum albumin and globulin (g %) were not significantly different and were comparable among the groups I (3.33 and 3.06), II (3.53 and 2.97) and III (3.49 and 2.94). The cumulative period mean values of serum albumin: globulin ratio and total protein values were not significantly different among the different groups. Serum urea and creatinine values were significantly (P < 0.001) higher in group III (58.66 and 2.24) as compared to groups I and II. The cumulative period mean values of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (KA units) did not differ significantly, but serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT) values (units x mL(-1) were significantly (P < 0.001) higher in groups II and III than in group I. The cumulative period mean values of T3 (ng x mL(-1)) did not differ significantly among the groups, but T4 values were significantly (P < 0.001) higher in group III (22.74) than in groups 1 (21.41) and II (20.89), respectively. Since the mean values of all the blood parameters were within the normal range, it may be concluded that feeding of ammoniated wheat straw treated with and without HCl to growing male buffalo calves for fourteen months has no adverse effect on the blood biochemical parameters.  相似文献

The effect of different levels (2, 4 or 6%) of DMA (dimethylacetamide) on the morphology and fertilising ability of unfrozen quail spermatozoa was evaluated. Semen was collected from 72 males kept individually in cages and randomly divided into four groups: Group I--control -- fresh undiluted semen (12 males) and three experimental groups (20 males each) - semen diluted 1:1 with Lake's extender and supplemented with 2% (Group II), 4% (Group III) or 6% (Group IV) of DMA (final concentration). Sperm morphology was evaluated at each step of semen preparation, i.e. in fresh and diluted semen, semen supplemented with DMA and semen that remained after insemination. For fertility tests, 36 females were divided into four groups (nine females each). Females in the control group were inseminated with 10 microl of fresh semen, in the experimental groups with 40 microl of diluted semen. Each stage of quail semen treatment had a deleterious effect on sperm morphology. The highest percentage of morphologically normal cells in semen evaluated after insemination, was observed in samples with 2% DMA, and the lowest--in samples with 6% DMA. Semen dilution and DMA addition significantly affected the fertilising potency of spermatozoa. Fertility of eggs collected from the control group (71.5% on average) was significantly higher (P相似文献

This experiment was carried out to determine the effects of the usage of dried brewing yeast in quail diets on laying performance, egg traits and blood parameters. A total of 240 Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) aged 10 weeks were randomly allocated into one control group and three treatment groups. Each group was divided into five replicates as subgroups, comprising 12 quails each. Dried brewing yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) was used at the levels of 1.5%, 3.0% and 4.5% in the diets of the first, second and third treatment groups, respectively. Soyabean meal was replaced with dried brewing yeast. The diets were formulated to be isocaloric and isonitrogenous. The experimental period lasted 18 weeks. Dietary treatments did not significantly affect body weight, daily feed intake, daily protein intake, egg production, egg weight, feed efficiency, mortality, egg shell thickness, egg albumen index, egg yolk index, egg Haugh unit, the percentages of egg shell, albumen and yolk, excreta moisture and small intestinal pH. Inclusion of 3% and 4.5% dried brewing yeast in diets reduced egg yolk cholesterol concentration as mg per yolk and mg per g yolk (P < 0.01). Blood serum cholesterol of groups fed diets with dried brewing yeast was significantly lower (P < 0.01) than that of the control group. Feeding diets containing 3.0% and 4.5% dried brewing yeast resulted in significant increases (P < 0.01) in blood serum levels of total protein, alanine aminotransferase at the end of the experiment. Blood serum levels of uric acid, triglyceride, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase were not affected by dietary dried brewing yeast. It is concluded that dried brewing yeast can be used up to 4.5% in the diets of laying quails without adverse effects on the measured parameters.  相似文献

The activity of cytoplasmic and mitochondrial phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) in kidney and liver, and in vivo gluconeogenic activity, were determined during different phases of prolonged fasting in quails. The fasting-induced changes in the activity of kidney cytoplasmic PEPCK were positively correlated with the changes in gluconeogenesis. Both activities increased at the initial phase (I) of fasting to levels 65% to 100% higher than fed values, and decreased during the protein-sparing period (phase II), although remaining higher than in fed birds. At the catabolic final phase (III) both kidney cytoplasmic PEPCK activity and gluconeogenesis increased markedly, attaining levels 115% to 150% higher than fed values. The activity of liver cytoplasmic PEPCK, present in appreciable amounts in quails, did not change during phases I and II of fasting, but increased to levels 60% higher than fed values at the final phase (III). Plasma glucose levels at phase III did not differ significantly from those at phases I and II. In both kidney and liver the activity of the mitochondrial PEPCK was not significantly affected by fasting. The data suggest that the kidney cytoplasmic PEPCK is the main enzyme responsible for gluconeogenesis adjustments during food deprivation in quails, and that this function is complemented at the final phase by enzyme present in liver cytosol. Conventionally housed 130-160 g adult male Japanese quail were given gossypol acetic acid (gossypol) im at 25 mg/kg in 0.5 ml of 10% EtOH for 12 and 24 days (Groups 1 and 2), respectively. One day after treatment was terminated they were allowed to mate with laying females individually for 20 days. Fertility was 0% from mating of the Group 1 birds on days 1-2 and increased to 25, 35, 55 and 65% on days 3-6 after cessation of gossypol treatment. At day 11, fertility was 80 vs 84% in controls, whereas hatchability was 70% for both. By comparison, eggs from Group 2 mated quail were infertile for up to 20 days after the termination of gossypol treatment. In a parallel experiment, the percent testes to body weight ratio in control and 7, 14, 21, and 28-day gossypol-treated quail was 2.5, 2.2, 1.8, 0.5, and 0.2%, respectively. In 12 vs 24-day treated birds, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after gossypol treatment, the ratios were 1.0 vs 0.5%, 2.0 vs 0.8% and 2.8 vs 1.9%, respectively. The decreased fertility and hatachability, and testicular atrophy resulting from gossypol given to male quail was dose-time related. Furthermore, the androgen-dependent cloacal gland was drastically reduced in size by the treatment with gossypol. The mode of action of gossypol in male quail is different than it is in mammals in that the testicular size of mammals remains unchanged with long-term gossypol treatment. It is concluded that quail may be a useful avian animal model for investigating the antifertility effects of gossypol.  相似文献

The urinary excretion of total N-tau-methylhistidine by the growing rat was measured to evaluate the effects of dietary protein and energy restriction on muscle protein turnover in vivo. 2. Young male rats (about 100 g initial wt.) were fed on one of three diets. Group I (controls) received an adequate 18% lactalbumin diet for 28 days, on which they sustained maximum growth. Group II (protein-depleted) was fed for 14 days on 0.5 lactalbumin diet, which caused loss of weight; this was followed by repletion for 14 days with the control diet. Group III (protein-energy restricted) received a 1% lactalbumin diet at one-half the food intake of group II for 14 days, and this was also followed by 14 days of repletion with the control diet. 3. The controls showed a progressive rise in the daily urinary output of N-tau-methylhistidine, which was proportionally slightly less rapid than the body-weight increase. 4. The protein-depleted group II showed a marked and progressive decrease in N-tau-methylhistidine excretion, which was proportionally greater than the fall in body weight; during repletion, N-tau-methylhistidine output rose in parallel with body-weight increase, but it did not reach the value attained by the control group. 5. Group III, restricted in both dietary protein and energy, showed an initial small increase in daily N-tau-methylhistidine output, which contrasted with the sharp loss of body weight during this period. After 11 days on this restricted diet, group III then underwent a decrease in N-tau-methylhistidine output, which persisted into the first 4 days of the repletion period, after which output of the methylated amino acid became the same as for group II. 6. Creatinine output, used as an additional metabolic measure of muscle metabolism, showed a fairly constant relationship to body weight in groups I and II during depletion and repletion. However, rats with protein-energy deficiency (group III) underwent a marked increase in output of creatinine per unit of body weight, which also persisited into the repletion period before it fell to more normal values relative to body weight. 7. Analysis of the N-tau-methylhistidine content of actin isolated from a group of protein-depleted rats revealed a small (5%) but significance (P less than 0.02) decrease relative to well-nourished controls. 8. Hence, the rate of muscle protein degradation, as indicated by changes in urinary N-tau-methylhistidine output, appears to respond sensitively and in opposite directions to insufficiency of protein of energy in the diet.  相似文献

The study aimed to investigate the effect of various doses of betaine supplemented dietary on Japanese quail performance, carcass characteristics, and blood chemistry. Therefore, 400 seven days old Japanese quails were classified randomly into four equal groups. Each group was subdivided into five replicates of 20 birds each. Four rations were formulated using four different betaine levels (0, 0.75, 1.5 and 2.25 g/kg, respectively) for five successive weeks. All groups received feed and clean water ad-libitum. The results of this trial indicated that the feed intake was lowered in groups fed with betaine (p ≤ 0.05) when compared with the control one. The highest weight gain (p ≤ 0.05) was noticed in groups fed diets BS4 (betaine supplementation at the rate of 2.25 g/kg). No difference among groups was observed in body length, shank length, shank diameter, and keel bone length or breast width. Also, the carcass weight and breast yield were highest (p ≤ 0.05) in the group reared on the BS4 diet. In addition, intestinal length and weight were significantly higher (p ≤ 0.05) in groups fed betaine with a concentration of 2.25 g/kg. Fat weight was lower in the group fed BS4 than in the untreated group. Significantly higher values of high-density lipoprotein (p ≤ 0.05) were observed in the group fed BS4. All groups fed a ration containing betaine showed lower levels of liver enzymes such as alanine amino transferase, alkaline phosphatase, and aspartate amino transferase (p ≤ 0.05) and lowered low-density lipoprotein level. The quails fed BS4 had the greatest growth hormones and insulin (p ≤ 0.05) and the lowest thyroxin level. We concluded that dietary betaine supplementation positively impacts Japanese quail growth performance, carcass traits, and blood chemistry.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the requirement for dietary crude protein (CP) in growing blue-breasted quail (BBQ). In Experiment 1, 300 1-day-old quails were randomly assigned to 10 groups according to a 2×5 factorial arrangement of treatments with two metabolisable energy (ME) levels (12.13 and 13.39 MJ/kg) and five CP concentrations (160, 190, 220, 250 and 280 g/kg) for 8 weeks. In Experiment 2, 300 1-day-old quails were subjected to a different factorial arrangement of treatments with two ME levels (11.51 and 12.13 MJ/kg) and five CP concentrations (210, 220, 230, 240 and 250 g/kg) for 28 days. Experiment 1 revealed that an interaction existed in weight gain between ME and CP levels in weeks 1 to 4. In both ME groups, quails receiving CP of 160 g/kg showed the least weight gains (P<0.05). No differences (P>0.05) existed in weight gain between the ME groups in which quails ingested CP of 250 and 280 g/kg, whereas quails consuming CP of 220 g/kg with an ME of 13.39 MJ/kg had smaller weight gain than did those ingesting higher CP concentrations (P<0.05). Of main effects for weeks 1-4, quails treated with an ME of 12.13 MJ/kg consumed more feed than did those receiving another ME level, whereas quails in both ME treatments showed similar feed efficiencies. For weeks 5 to 8, no difference (P>0.05) in weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency was seen regardless of ME levels, and no interaction existed between ME and CP levels. In Experiment 2, the best weight gain and feed efficiency were achieved when the dietary CP concentration was more than 210 g/kg, and quails treated with 11.51 MJ/kg showed better weight gain and feed efficiency (P<0.05) than did those that received 12.13 MJ/kg. Furthermore, the weight gains and protein intakes on the basis of per MJ from the two experiments were pooled together to estimate the protein intake necessary for the best growth performance by two mathematic models; they were then converted to dietary CP concentrations of 204 (minimum) and 233 g/kg (maximum) when ME was 11.51 MJ/kg. In conclusion, BBQ will achieve good growth performance with dietary CP of more than 204 g/kg on the basis of an ME of 11.51 MJ/kg in weeks 1 to 4.  相似文献

Abstract

Fifteen Murrah buffalo calves (age about 10 months, 163 – 176 kg BW) were divided into three groups. The rumen fermentation parameters such as pH and NH3-N were found to be lower, whereas total nitrogen, tricarboxylic acid precipitable-nitrogen, total volatile fatty acids and zoospore counts per millilitre of rumen liquor were significantly higher in fungal administered groups. After administration of fungal cultures, improvements of animal growth rate (i.e. body weight gain) and feed efficiency were also observed.  相似文献

Effects of yolk androgens on postnatal growth of offspring have been widely studied but their physiological role in the growth control is not fully understood due to an inconsistency in obtained results. We investigated androgen-mediated maternal effects on postnatal growth in relation to endocrine control mechanisms using two lines of Japanese quail divergently selected for high (HET) and low (LET) egg testosterone (T) content. Embryonic growth did not differ between the lines. During the growth period HET quail were heavier and displayed longer tarsi as compared with LET quail, with more pronounced line differences in males than females. HET males were heavier than LET males from the age of 2 weeks, reached the age of maximum growth rate earlier, and displayed higher asymptotic body weight than LET males. Accelerated growth in HET males was not accompanied by increased postembryonic plasma T concentrations. Plasma triiodothyronine levels did not differ between lines while plasma thyroxine levels were decreased in HET as compared with LET female chicks. Line differences in body weight disappeared in adult quail suggesting that yolk androgens, increased in a physiological way, resulted in stimulation of juvenile growth rate in precocial Japanese quail under stable social and environmental conditions.  相似文献

The differential effects of alpha 2-adrenoceptor stimulation on myocardial contractility and coronary circulation were examined in the isolated perfused rat heart. We studied 20 Sprague-Dawley rats of similar age (26-28 weeks) and body weight (500-550 gm). Myocardial contractility (LV +dp/dt and developed pressure, LVP) and coronary flow resistance (CFR) were tested in the isolated isovolumic hearts using Langendorff preparation at a constant perfusion rate (2.5 ml/min/100 g BW) of Krebs-Henseleit bicarbonate solution. Group I (N-7) received B-HT 920 (specific alpha 2-adrenergic agonist, 0.6 to 58 micrograms/min), Group II (N-7) received B-HT 920+Yohimbine (300 nM in the perfusate). Group III (N-6) received vehicle only. Baseline LVP, LV +dP/dt and CFR were not significantly different among the 3 groups. During drug or vehicle administration, LVP and LV +dP/dt remained unchanged in all the groups. Coronary flow resistance increased in a dose-response fashion with a maximum increase of 22.7 +/- 3.6 (SE) mmHg/ml/min/g LV in Group I, and 10.5 +/- 2.0 mmHg/ml/min/g LV in Group II (p less than 0.02). We conclude that in the Sprague-Dawley rat heart, the physiologic effects of alpha 2-adrenoceptors are predominant in the coronary circulation but not in the myocardium itself possibly because of absence of post-synaptic alpha 2-adrenergic receptors in the rat myocardium.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate protein requirements for the maintenance and growth of blue-breasted quail (Excalfactoria chinensis) from 7 to 21 days of age. A total of 180 quails, 7 days old, were randomly assigned to 36 cages and for 2 weeks were fed diets with a metabolisable energy concentration of 12.13 MJ/kg and a dietary CP concentration of 125, 150, 175, 200, 225 or 250 g/kg. The average BW per cage and the feed intake per cage were recorded daily. The results showed that quails fed 125 g/kg CP could not maintain their BW and had negative feed efficiency. There were linear and quadratic relationships between CP level and response criteria, including BW, weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency, final body nitrogen mass and body nitrogen accretion (P<0.05). The dietary CP requirements, as calculated using a one-slope quadratic broken-line model, were 211 and 202 g/kg according to weight gain and feed efficiency, respectively. The regression equations, on the basis of metabolic BW, of daily weight gain on daily protein intake according to the model were Y=0.137-2.128(0.113-X) if X<0.113 and Y=0.137 if X>or=0.113 (R2=0.96, P<0.001), which meant that the protein requirement for maintenance was 0.049 times the metabolic BW and that to gain 1 g weight quails needed to ingest an extra 0.47 g protein after the maintenance requirement was satisfied. The regression equations, on the basis of metabolic BW, of daily body nitrogen accretion on daily protein intake according to the model were Y=5.667-76.700(0.119-X) if X<0.119 and Y=5.667 if X>or=0.119 (R2=0.95, P<0.001), which meant that quails had to receive an amount of protein equal to their metabolic BW multiplied by 0.045 to satisfy the requirement for maintenance and then ingest an extra 13 g protein to accrete 1 g body nitrogen. In conclusion, growth or protein accretion rates should be regulated according to dietary CP for specific experimental purposes via apportioning protein requirements for maintenance v. growth.  相似文献

Eleven strains of acetic acid bacteria were isolated from stems of sugarcane, fruits, and a flower in Japan. The isolates were separated into three groups, Groups I, II, and III, in the genus Acetobacter according to phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA sequences. The isolates had sequence similarities of 99.8-100% within the Group, 99.3-99.6% to those of the type strains of each related Acetobacter species, and less than 98.4% to those of the type strains of other Acetobacter species. Genomic DNA G+C contents of Groups I, II, and III were 59.2-59.4, 60.5-60.7, and 58.7-58.9 mol%, respectively. The isolates in the Group showed high values of DNA-DNA relatedness to each other, but low values less than 46% to the type strains of related Acetobacter species. A good correlation was found between the three Groups and groups based on DNA G+C contents and DNA-DNA relatedness. All the strains had Q-9 as the main component, and Q-8 and Q-10 as minor components. The isolates in the three Groups did not completely match with any Acetobacter species on catalase reaction, the production of ketogluconic acids from D-glucose, growth on ammoniac nitrogen with ethanol (Hoyer-Frateur medium and Frateur modified Hoyer medium), growth on 30% (w/v) D-glucose, growth in 10% (v/v) ethanol, or DNA G+C contents. On the basis of phylogenetic relationships in the genus Acetobacter and chemosystematic and phenotypic characteristics, the three Groups were regarded as novel species in the genus Acetobacter. Acetobacter okinawensis sp. nov. is proposed for Group I, Acetobacter papayae sp. nov. for Group II, and Acetobacter persicus sp. nov. for Group III.  相似文献

Associations of percent live sperm, sperm number, sperm concentration, sperm motility, and potential breeding efficiency score with scrotal circumference were studied using data from the records of 465 Polled Hereford and 264 Simmental bulls. Data were subdivided by breed and within breed into three groups according to scrotal circumference (SC) size. Group I bulls had SC measurements <32 cm. Group II included bulls with SC measurements between 32 cm and the mean measurement of the breed (i.e., 35 cm for Polled Hereford and 38 cm for Simmentals). Group III was comprised of bulls with SC values above their respective breed averages. Age and body weight differences were also evaluated in the three groups. Average age differences among bulls in the three groups differed by not more than nine days in the two breeds. Average body weight differences among the three groups were statistically significant (P<0.05) with the maximum difference between any two groups within breed being 80 pounds. Average differences in percent live sperm and sperm number were greater (P<0.05) in Groups II and III than in Group I. For sperm concentration ratings, sperm motility ratings and potential breeding efficiency score, and for both breeds, Group I had a significantly lower (P<0.05) number of bulls classified satisfactory and a significantly greater (P<0.05) number of bulls classified unsatisfactory than did groups II and III.  相似文献

Immature female rats (60-65 g) were injected with 4 i.u. PMSG on Day -2, and allocated to 3 groups. For Groups I and II, unmated donors were killed 67-69 h after PMSG injection, shortly after the expected time of ovulation. Oocytes were recovered from the oviducts and transferred immediately into the oviduct of mated recipients (Group I) whose ipsilateral ovary had been exposed by peeling back the bursa, preventing endogenous oocytes from entering the oviduct, or were fertilized in vitro (Group II) and were transferred 16-18 h later. Rats in Group III were allowed to mate and half were killed 6 h after mating. The fertilized oocytes were then incubated for 10-12 h until transfer. The remaining rats in Group III were killed 16-18 h after mating and fertilized oocytes were collected and transferred immediately. Recipient rats were killed on Days 2, 5, 8 and 20. Zygotes resulting from in-vitro fertilization (Group II) were as able as those fertilized in donors (Group III) or recipients (Group I) to develop to the 2-cell stage, but underwent significantly greater embryonic loss beyond this stage of development. There was a slower rate of development of such oocytes to the blastocyst stage (Day 5) and a lower mean weight of implantation sites (Day 8). Transfer of zygotes after in-vitro fertilization resulted in a loss of 35% of the embryos at the time of implantation. These results suggest that in-vitro fertilization of rat oocytes leads to defects in the embryos causing a delay in early embryo development and a large number of implantation losses.  相似文献

Two models of sepsis were investigated using rabbits. In the first model, rabbits given lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were treated with saline (group II) or CD18 monoclonal antibody (MAb) 60.3 (group III). Group I animals received no LPS. Cardiac output was maintained by infusion of lactated Ringer solution with group II (95 +/- 68 ml/kg) requiring significantly more than group I (0 +/- 0 ml/kg) or group III (39 +/- 27 ml/kg). Lung permeability indexes in groups II (median 0.002, range 0.023) and III (median 0.0035, range 0.053) were not different but were significantly greater than group I (median 0.0007, range 0.001). In the second model, peritonitis was produced by devascularizing the appendix, leaving it in situ for 19 h, and then performing an appendectomy. Saline or MAb 60.3 treatment was at appendectomy and every 12 h for 3 days. Survival was significantly greater in the MAb 60.3-treated group at day 10 (90 vs. 40%). Lung permeability was increased at day 2 and was not different between groups. Day 1 fluid requirements were greater in the saline-treated group. These data are consistent with MAb 60.3 protection of systemic but not pulmonary circulation in two models of sepsis.  相似文献
