The author describes changes of the lower alveolar and ischiadic nerves on the non-operated side after cutting such nerves on the opposite side of dogs, as well as changes in the organs innervated by them. The observed dystrophic changes in the nerve fibres on the non-operated side turn into more severe and non-reversible changes due to abnormal stimulation. Changes of masticatory organs appearing after cutting the lower alveolar nerve have bilateral manifestations being more pronounced on the same side especially in the case of a simultaneous dissection of the lower alveolar artery. These investigations contribute to possible interpretation of cases of symmetrical caries, development of dento-maxillary deformations on both sides.  相似文献

An electron microscopic investigation on ultrastructure of synapses and ventral horns of the lumbar thickening in the spinal cord of cats with parathyroprival tetany has been performed. When motor disorders are clearly seen on the 2d - 4th days after removal of the parathyroid glands, together with the changes demonstrating functional activity of the synapses, certain irreversible degenerative changes of the "dark" type are seen in the axodendritic and axosomatic synapses. A complex of structural-metabolic changes has been revealed in the motor neurons, they have both functional-compensatory and degenerative character. It is possible to suggest that the changes revealed at parathyroprival tetany result from a disturbed metabolism and increased afferent influences.  相似文献

The economic approach to fertility is an application of the economics theory of consumer behavior. It is assumed that consumers of children are utility-maximizers with stable preferences over time. Thus, changes in fertility are related to changes in household income and the "price" of children. One concern in this approach is that demographic changes are a product of changes in tastes rather than exogenous changes in economic factors such as the earning ability of women. In this paper, the effect of economic variables on the demand for children in the United States in 1950, 1960, 1970, and 1980 is examined. Support is provided for the hypothesis that the earning ability of women is an important determinant of fertility.  相似文献

Following a short review of the limits set to the procedures applied so far to measure quantitative changes in wall tissue of microvessels, a new measuring method is presented. It detect morphological reactions of the microcirculatory system on the grounds of changes in the numerical density of selectively visualized microvessels and their classification according to the external diameter by means of the automatic microscopic image analysing system QUANTIMET. Influences of structurally based and/or postmortal changes of the lumen wideness on the measurement are excluded by the automatic subtraction of the lumen area.  相似文献

Climate change-related disturbances are increasingly recognized as critical threats to biodiversity and species abundance. On coral reefs, climate disturbances have known consequences for reef fishes, but it is often difficult to isolate the effect of coral bleaching from preceding or simultaneous disturbances such as fishing, pollution, and habitat loss. In this study, pre-bleaching surveys of fish family assemblages in the remote Phoenix Islands in 2002 are compared to post-bleaching in 2005, following severe thermal stress. Post-bleaching, total coral cover decreased substantially, as did the combined abundance of all fish families. Yet, changes in abundance for specific fish families were not uniform, and varied greatly from site to site. Of the 13 fish families examined, 3 exhibited significant changes in abundance from 2002 to 2005, regardless of site (Carangidae, Chaetodontidae, and serranid subfamily Epinephelinae). For these families, we explored whether changes in abundance were related to island type (island vs atoll) and/or declining coral cover (percent change). Carangidae on islands experienced larger changes in abundance than those on atolls, though declines in abundance over time were not associated with changes in live coral cover. In contrast, for Chaetodontidae, declines in abundance over time were most dramatic on atolls, and were also associated with changes in live coral cover. The remoteness of the Phoenix Islands excludes many typical local anthropogenic stressors as drivers of short-term changes; observed changes are instead more likely attributed to natural variation in fish populations, or associated with coral loss following the 2002–2003 major thermal stress event.  相似文献

In experiments on rats it has been demonstrated that in the acute period of uninjured parts of the lungs periodic changes of protein, lipid and glucose concentrations developed. In uninjured parts of the lungs one can observe more concentration of lipids and in injured parts-more glucose. The changes of substrates, concentrations in the lungs are due to not only the changes of venous blood excess in the lungs, but are connected with metabolic changes in the cells of the injured and uninjured parts of the lungs. The metabolic changes in the lungs in the acute period of chest trauma influence the creation of such indices of gas exchange as PaCO2 and PACO2.  相似文献

The effect of caldesmon on the conformational changes of F-actin caused by myosin subfragment 1 (S-1) binding was studied, using the polarized microfluorimetry method. It was demonstrated that the polarized fluorescence of rhodaminil-phalloin specifically bound to F-actin of pure actin filaments as well as of tropomyosin-containing actin filaments changes as a result of binding to S-1. The nature of these changes depends on the presence of caldesmon in the filaments. Caldesmon was supposed to modify the conformational changes in F-actin induced by S-1.  相似文献

It is unknown which factors determine the changes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure inside the craniospinal system during the changes of the body position. To test this, we have developed a new model of the CSF system, which by its biophysical characteristics and dimensions imitates the CSF system in cats. The results obtained on a model were compared to those in animals observed during changes of body position. A new model was constructed from two parts with different physical characteristics. The "cranial" part is developed from a plastic tube with unchangeable volume, while the "spinal" part is made of a rubber baloon, with modulus of elasticity similar to that of animal spinal dura. In upright position, in the "cranial" part of the model the negative pressure appears without any measurable changes in the fluid volume, while in "spinal" part the fluid pressure is positive. All of the observed changes are in accordance to the law of the fluid mechanics. Alterations of the CSF pressure in cats during the changes of the body position are not significantly different compared to those observed on our new model. This suggests that the CSF pressure changes are related to the fluid mechanics, and do not depend on CSF secretion and circulation. It seems that in all body positions the cranial volume of blood and CSF remains constant, which enables a good blood brain perfusion.  相似文献

The effect of environmental temperature changes in the physiological range on DNA supercoiling in the sperm of Misgurnus fossilis L. was studied. Living fishes from the Oka and the Danube and isolated gonads were exposed to temperature changes. In the living fishes, both temperature increase from 4 to 14 degrees C and decrease from 19-21 to 14 degrees resulted in a reversible relaxation of DNA superhelices. Upon decreasing the environmental temperature from 19-21 to 4 degrees C the reversibility of changes in DNA supercoiling was not observed during the next 15 days. In isolated gonads the temperature increase from 4 to 14 degrees C had no effect on the sperm DNA supercoiling. The temperature-dependent changes in the sperm DNA supercoiling were not dependent on the loach population. It is assumed that the effect of changes in environmental temperature on the supercoiling of sperm DNA in vivo plays an important role in the activation of the genome after fertilization.  相似文献

The melatonin rhythm of cultured chicken pineal cells can be synchronized by cyclic environmental effects. Unlike the effects of light on the melatonin secretion, those of the temperature changes are much less known. Similarly, only a few data are available on the interactions between environmental illumination and periodic temperature changes and on the sensitivity of the pineal gland to temperature changes in different ages of animals. We monitored the effects of temperature on chicken pineals for several days in vitro, in a perifusion system under different illumination patterns. The effects of temperature on pineals from chicken of different age were also compared. The phase of the melatonin rhythm was controlled by periodic elevations of temperature under both constant darkness and continuous illumination. These results show that rhythmic changes of temperature prevent desynchronization induced by constant light. Following elevation of the temperature, the melatonin rhythm of pineals of young chickens (less, than 14 weeks old) was altered for 16 - 18 hours. Similar changes in melatonin rhythm were not found in older animals. It is concluded that the sensitivity for temperature changes of the pineal cells is varying with age.  相似文献

This paper examines the transmission dynamics of human immune deficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in the male homosexual population in the U.K. via numerical studies employing a mathematical model representing the principal epidemiological process. The model is based on an assumption of proportionate mixing between different sexual-activity classes (defined by the rate of sexual partner change per unit of time) and incorporates heterogeneity in sexual activity, distributed infection and incubation periods and the recruitment of susceptibles to the sexually active population. The sensitivity of model predictions to various assumptions and parameter assignments is examined. Numerical studies of model behaviour focus on the influence of changes in the magnitudes of the transmission parameters, associated with three periods of infectiousness during the incubation period of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), on the magnitude and duration of the epidemic and on the level of the endemic equilibrium state. Predicted temporal trends in the incidence of AIDS are shown to be particularly sensitive to changes in the intensities and durations of the stages of infectiousness. Most of the paper addresses the influence of changes in sexual behaviour on the magnitude and duration of the epidemic. Numerical simulations show that the manner in which behavioural changes occur and who is influenced by such changes (i.e. infecteds or susceptibles, the sexually active population or new recruits to this population) have a major impact on the future timecourse of the epidemic. The greatest reduction in the incidence of AIDS over the coming decades is induced by changes in the rate of sexual-partner change among the sexually active population, particularly those currently infected. The time periods at which changes in behaviour occur, in relation to the starting point of the epidemic (assumed to be 1979), are also of particular significance to the future pattern of the incidence of disease and infection. Changes in behaviour early on in the timecourse of the epidemic have a much greater impact than equivalent changes at latter time points. On the basis of limited data on the pattern of change in sexual behaviour among the male homosexual community in the U.K., numerical studies of model behaviour tentatively suggest that the epidemic is at, or near to, a period of peak incidence of the disease AIDS. Analyses suggest that, following the peak in incidence, there will be a period of slow decline over many decades provided recent changes in behaviour are maintained in the coming years.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献

Three methods were used to study the effect of oestrogen on the incorporation of radioactive precursor into uterine protein. Intact tissue was incubated in vitro. Isolated uterine epithelial, stromal and myometrial cells were labelled in vitro. Isolated polysomes were translated in cell free protein synthesising systems. In all of these systems, minor qualitative changes in protein synthesis were detected where the uteri were derived from oestrogen-treated rats. These changes were most dramatic in isolated stromal cells and were accompanied by a marked overall increase in protein synthesis. The translation of mRNA on isolated uterine polysomes revealed a sequence of minor, but reproducible, oestradiol-induced changes. It was difficult, however, to relate these changes to those detected in incubated tissue or cells, possibly because the cell free translation products were not subject to normal post-translational modification and processing.  相似文献

黄土高原大规模人类活动造成下垫面剧烈变化,流域景观格局改变,影响产汇流过程。学科融合视角下,基于Budyko水热耦合方程、景观指数计算以及回归分析等多学科方法,以晋西黄土丘陵沟壑区三川河流域为例,分析不同尺度景观格局变化造成流域径流量变化的原因,判别地理景观空间对产汇流过程的影响。结果表明:(1)1980年至今是研究区径流锐减阶段,其中下垫面变化对径流贡献率为60.81%;(2)1980年至今的下垫面变化造成流域景观斑块破碎、形状趋于规整,景观格局分割度、蔓延度提高;(3)利用逐步线性回归模型可将径流减少的景观格局变化定位到具体地理空间,流域东部、北部主要支流上游与两条支流汇流处的林地核心斑块面积减少以及城市建设区域对于水体连通性的破坏。通过跨学科方法探究景观格局与径流变化之间的潜在空间关联,揭示径流对景观格局变化的响应,可为黄土高原水资源管理与生态规划提供决策依据。  相似文献

A complex analysis on changes occurring in conjunctival microcirculation and a number of indices of hemodynamics, hemorheology and metabolism at different time of experimental occlusion in the cranial mesenteric artery has demonstrated certain objective and many-sided correlations that prove a systemic character of biomicroscopical changes in the conjunctiva. The degree of changes in the conjunctival microcirculation depends on duration of occlusion. After a 3 hours' occlusion revascularization is accompanied by reversible general microcirculatory disorders that are registered in bulboconjunctiva. In a 6 and 12 hours' occlusion revascularization is characterized by increasing general changes in microcirculation.  相似文献

Under study were effects of gravitation stresses, total hypokinesia and their combinations on blood vessels of the stomach. The work was carried out in 130 rabbits, 16 of them being used to study the normal structure of the gastric vascular bed. The vascular bed was injected with the Gerota's mass followed by clearing, making histological preparations and roentgenography. The investigation has revealed both quantitative and qualitative changes in the structure of the gastric blood vessels. The maximum endurable stress of the ventro-dorsal direction causes morphological shifts less pronounced than stresses of longitudinal directions. With prolonged terms of hypokinesia (1-12 weeks) morphological changes became more pronounced in all the layers of the stomach. A combination of successive gravitation stresses and hypokinesia during 4-12 weeks aggravated morphological changes which occurred after exposure to isolated above factors. The animals subjected to maximum endurable stresses before and after 4-week hypokinesia developed vascular changes more typical for the effects of gravitation. The pretraining of animals did not give a pronounced positive effect on the changes of the angioarchitectonics of all the gastric layers after a repeated stress following 4-week hypokinesia.  相似文献

Ultrastructural observations were made of morphological changes in the inner surface of the blastocoelic wall (BW) in newt embryos during the period from morula to gastrula. A scanning electron microscopic investigation distinguished three phases of process formation on the inner surface of the BW. First, small blebs and filopodia were found in the morula. These then changed to large blebs in the blastula and early gastrula. Finally, they acquired lamella-like structures (lamellipodia) in the middle and late gastrula. In addition to the changes in the cell surface, cytoplasmic changes such as of the organization of the cortical microfilamentous layer (CML) were found by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The morphological changes on the inner surface of the BW and those in the cytoplasmic ultrastructures are considered to be closely related, playing some important roles in the mechanisms of morphogenetic cell movements.  相似文献

Major macroevolutionary events in the history of the oceans are linked to changes in oceanographic conditions and environments on regional to global scales. Even small changes in climate and productivity, such as those that occurred after the rise of the Isthmus of Panama, caused major changes in Caribbean coastal ecosystems and mass extinctions of major taxa. In contrast, massive influxes of carbon at the end of the Palaeocene caused intense global warming, ocean acidification, mass extinction throughout the deep sea and the worldwide disappearance of coral reefs. Today, overfishing, pollution and increases in greenhouse gases are causing comparably great changes to ocean environments and ecosystems. Some of these changes are potentially reversible on very short time scales, but warming and ocean acidification will intensify before they decline even with immediate reduction in emissions. There is an urgent need for immediate and decisive conservation action. Otherwise, another great mass extinction affecting all ocean ecosystems and comparable to the upheavals of the geological past appears inevitable.  相似文献

Although atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition and climate changes are both recognized as major components of global change, their interaction at ecosystem level is less well understood. A stratified resampling approach was used to investigate the potential impact of changing levels of atmospheric nitrogen deposition and climate change on species composition of nutrient‐poor acid grasslands within the French Atlantic Domain (FAD). The study was based on a comparison, over a period of 25 years, of 162 past and present vegetation records assigned to the species‐rich Nardus grasslands and distributed in regional community types (CTs). Similarly, the characterization of N deposition and climate was stratified according to (i) past (1980–1990) and present (1995–2005) periods, and (ii) FAD and CT scales. Despite the relatively short time span between sampling periods, significant N deposition and climate changes were detected as well as vegetation changes. Correspondence analysis showed that the relative importance of N deposition and climate in explaining vegetation changes depended on the spatial scale of investigation (FAD vs. local CTs) and the CT. At the FAD scale, the increase of annual mean temperature and decrease of water availability were clearly related to the changes in floristic composition. At the local scale, the most stable CT experienced no significant climate change and a stable load of N deposition, whereas the CTs characterized by the largest floristic changes were associated with dramatic climate changes and moderate loads in both oxidized and reduced N deposition. Despite the narrow gradient of deposition investigated, N deposition was related to significant grassland community changes, depending on the region, i.e. climate context, and on whether N deposition was in the oxidized or reduced form. Our results suggest that N deposition drives grassland composition at the local scale, in interaction with climate, whereas climate changes remain the predominant driver at the FAD scale.  相似文献
