To assess potential risks of human visitation to ecological communities, the immediate effects of human trampling were investigated experimentally on small invertebrates inhabiting mid-upper intertidal hard bottoms covered by algae. Two different experimental intensities of trampling (60 and 120 footsteps) and controls (with no trampling) were applied to quadrats 20×20 cm in size (experimental area), within the two ‘no-entry, no-take’ zones of the Asinara Island MPA (Italy, Mediterranean Sea). One day after trampling ended, samples of benthic fauna were collected and the animals attributed to macrofaunal and meiofaunal components. Analyses of variance on the nine most common taxa of macrofauna identified significant higher abundance of bivalves, gammarid amphipods, polychaetes, isopods, oligochaetes in controls than in trampled plots. For nematodes, polychaetes, ostracods, oligochaetes, bivalves, acari, caprellid amphipods and tanaids a significant higher abundance of meiofaunal animals was found in controls than in trampled areas. Although no information on recovery is available, these results suggest that macrofaunal and meiofaunal taxa are vulnerable to this type of disturbance.  相似文献

The macrozooplankton and Benthic Boundary Layer (BBL) macrofauna over a coarse sand and pebble community in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc (western English Channel) were sampled with a WP2 zooplankton net and with a modified MACER-GIROQ suprabenthic sledge, respectively, from February 1994 to November 1995. One hundred and sixty-four species were collected in 44 suprabenthic sledge hauls and 19 taxa in 30 zooplankton net hauls. In the water column, appendicularians and cnidarians dominated, while, in the BBL, holoplanktonic amphipods, chaetognaths, amphipods and mysids dominated the fauna; among them Apherusa spp., Sagitta setosa Muller, Anchialina agilis (Sars), Sirella clausii Sars and Eusirus longipes Boeck were the dominant species. The density and biomass of the BBL macrozooplankton were lower than those of the macrozooplankton in the water column. The density and biomass of suprabenthos remained a low throughout the year. In the water column, density and biomass of macrozooplankton showed a maximum in spring and remained low from autumn to winter; conversely, in the BBL, the density and biomass of both macrozooplankton and suprabenthos were higher from summer to autumn. The change in abundance of both BBL and pelagic taxa was seasonal. Some species were primarily sampled in the water column (appendicularians, cladocerans and cnidarians), while others were preferentially found at the BBL (suprabenthic species, holoplanktonic amphipods and cephalopods). A third group was collected throughout the water column (chaetognaths and fish larvae).   相似文献

The species composition of peracarids (Crustacea: Malacostraca) of the Greenland shelf between 60°N and 65°N was investigated by means of 10 qualitative epibenthic samples in relation to environmental factors. In total, 59,234 specimens were collected belonging to 219 species. The relative abundance was much higher on the western shelf (total of 41,594 specimens) than on the eastern shelf (total of 17,640 specimens with same effort). Three species were new to science, while five records were new for the investigated area. The species composition was dominated by amphipods (58%), while the relative abundances of isopods (25%), cumaceans (11%) and tanaidaceans (6%) were much lower. Diversity and evenness were similar in the eastern and the western areas. Multivariate analyses of the species relative abundances divided the peracarids into a southeastern and southwestern Greenland fauna. Based on a correlation analysis between faunal data and five environmental variables, the separation between the two areas was mainly based on sediment type. Species contributing most to the separation between eastern and western fauna included the amphipods Hardametopa nasuta, Photis reinhardi and Phoxocephalus holboelli, the isopods Pleurogonium spinosissimum, Iolella laciniata and Nannoniscus oblongus and the cumaceans Leucon cf. nasicoides and Campylaspis horrida. Species distribution patterns are discussed in the light of habitat and feeding preferences.  相似文献

The intertidal benthic fauna of the Antarctic coastal areas is largely unknown and has long been thought to be absent or, at most, to be scarce. Since climate changes cause a progressive expansion of ice-free intertidal soft-bottom areas, the fauna of these areas could serve as essential criterion to evaluate the kind and dimension of such changes. We therefore investigated the faunal composition of the intertidal soft-bottom area of Maxwell Bay (King George Island, South Shetlands) in December 2006. Samples for quantitative analyses were taken from the soft-bottom during low tide using a plastic corer. We performed detailed analyses of the soft-bottom beneath a cobble layer, while hard-bottom and macrophytes were only sporadically investigated. Approximately 5,000 specimens were collected of which polychaetes (37.3 ± 7.6 (max. 44.7) ind. × 100 cm?³) and harpacticoids (28.9 ± 28.5 (max. 104.0) ind. × 10 cm?³) were the most abundant macro- and meiofauna taxa of the soft-bottom, followed by oligochaetes, nematodes, mollusks, and amphipods. A total of 58 macrofauna species were registered, of which 27 were identified only to a supraspecific level. The most species-rich macrofauna taxon was polychaetes with at least 24 species, followed by amphipods, gastropods, and oligochaetes with 6 species each. The harpacticoid copepods were represented by 15 families with more than 30 species. In summary, we show that the Antarctic intertidal soft-bottom is densely populated by macro- and meiofauna and that it deserves closer attention in the future to determine whether it can indeed serve as an indicator of the effect of climate changes on the Antarctic coastal areas.  相似文献

The planktonic and epibenthic crustacean fauna from two sites of the brackish Schlei fjord, Northern Germany, was investigated over a six-month period. Calanoid and cyclopoid copepods were more abundant in lower salinities, whereas, benthic decapods, isopods and amphipods prevailed in the site of higher salinity. Cestodan larvae were found only in spring which may be due to the timing of the respective life-cycles. Parasites of benthic crustaceans, mostly digenean metacercariae but also cestodans, acanthocephalans and nematodes, appeared from spring to late summer. Decreasing salinities caused lower intensities of the most abundant parasite,Maritrema subdolum; only the true brackish-water species among the hosts were more heavily infested than those found in higher salinities. The correlation of parasite size and host size at infestation became apparent. Therefore,Crangon crangon is an optimal host for the largePodocotyle atomon metacercariae. Coevolutive trends between some hosts and parasites are made evident.  相似文献

Long-term trends of subtidal macrobenthos in North Inlet,South Carolina   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Analyses of seasonal and yearly trends in subtidal macrobenthic samples collected bi-weekly at a sandy site (1981–1984) and a muddy site (1981–1985) in North Inlet, South Carolina, show large fluctations in abundance and high variability between replicate samples. Sampling variability at the sandy site, thought to be influenced more by physical disturbance than by biotic interactions, was especially high and prevented the interpretation of seasonal trends in abundance. Increased replication at the muddy site in 1985 revealed abundance patterns of winter/spring maxima and summer minima. Despite short-term (seasonal) and high year-to-year variability, the fauna at both sites were characterized by long-term stability in abundance. That is, although abundances varied considerably between seasons or years only 9 of 22 taxa analyzed showed a directional change in abundance. These 9 taxa increased in abundance over the four (sandy site) or five (muddy site) years of examination while the other 13 taxa fluctuated about a mean value. The taxonomic composition of benthic fauna at both sites was also very stable through time, with the sandy site always numerically dominated, in order, by polychaetes, amphipods, and bivalves and the muddy site by polychaetes, oligochaetes, and bivalves.  相似文献

Synopsis Feeding ecology was compared between sympatric greenling species, Hexagrammos otakii and H. agrammus in the eelgrass beds in Jindong Bay, Korea, from January to December. These two species had similar diets composed of crustaceans, polychaetes, gastropods and fishes; both species consumed primarily crustaceans throughout study periods. H. otakii, however, fed a greater proportion of polychaetes and fishes than H. agrammus. H. agrammus had a greater proportion of gastropods in their diets. The diet of both species underwent size-related changes; smaller individuals of H. otakii and H. agrammus consumed amphipods (gammarid amphipods and caprellid amphipods), while larger individuals of H. otakii ate polychaetes and fishes and those of H. agrammus fed mainly on gastropods and crabs. The diet of H. otakii underwent seasonal changes; H. otakii consumed mainly polychaetes and fishes during January and February 2002 but amphipods during March and May 2002. H. agrammus, however, ate mainly gastropods and crabs all seasons. H. otakii underwent also a significant diel changes that could be related to difference of prey availability. Thus the nocturnal emergence of gammarid amphipods, polychaetes and fishes explained their greater consumption by H. otakii. Dietary breadth of both species was lower in the smallest individuals (<5 cm SL) and in March and April 2002. This was due to the disproportionate dry mass attributable to the consumption of amphipods by both H. otakii and H. agrammus. Dietary overlap of both species was relatively moderate to high, in particular in <9.9 cm SL (0.62 – 0.71) from May to July 2002 (0.63 – 0.71). This is coincident with higher abundances of crabs, caridean shrimps and polychaetes in the study area, and it was assumed that these prey species were not limited resources. Higher dietary overlap was correlated with an abundance of a shared resource and did not indicate the interspecific competition between H. otakii and H. agrammus.  相似文献

We carried out dietary analysis on five numerically abundant fishes, Sillago japonica, Ditremma temmincki, Tridentiger trigonocephalus, Hippocampus japonicus and Petroscirtes breviceps in an eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay, Korea. Comparisons between species demonstrated that the dietary composition of each fish species was significantly different from that of every other species. Although gammarid amphipods and caprellid amphipods were consumed by all species, their individual contributions to each species' diet varied. Furthermore, polychaetes contributed to the diets of S. japonica and T. trigonocephalusand crab larvae were consumed byD. temmincki. Algae and eelgrass were not consumed by four fish species and made only a minimal contribution to the diet of P. breviceps. The diet of each fish species except H. japonicus underwent size-related changes; smaller fishes consumed gammarid amphipods, mysids and copepods, while larger fishes ate polychaetes, gastropods, isopods and other fishes. Differences in the prey organisms consumed of each individual species could be often related to differences in mouth length and width. S. japonica, D. temmincki, T. trigonocephalus, and P. breviceps underwent also a significant diel changes that could be related to differences in foraging behavior and/or prey availability. Thus, use of vision to detect prey would account for the greater daytime consumption of copepods by S. japonica and of crab larvae by D. temmincki, whereas the nocturnal emergence of gammarid amphipods, polychaetes and isopods from the substrate explained their greater consumption by S. japonica, D. temmincki, T. trigonocephalusand P. breviceps at night. Dietary breadth was greater for species with larger mouth dimensions.  相似文献

The effects of intrinsic (sex, maturity stage and body size) and extrinsic (depth and region) factors on the diet of Bathyraja macloviana, in the south‐west Atlantic Ocean, were evaluated using a multiple‐hypothesis modelling approach. Bathyraja macloviana fed mainly on polychaetes followed by amphipods, isopods and decapods. Effects of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on diet composition of this species were found. The consumption of polychaetes had a humped relationship with total length (LT), and isopods and decapods increased with increasing LT. Immature individuals preyed on amphipods more heavily than mature individuals. Furthermore, region and depth had an important effect on the consumption of isopods, decapods and amphipods. Such ontogenetic changes and spatial patterns may provide insights into understanding the regulatory mechanisms of marine communities.  相似文献

Year to year variation and vertical distributions of epipelagic Zooplankton around Elephant Island and King George Island were examined with samples collected with bongo nets and a 1 m2 MOCNESS during the austral summers (Jan–Feb.) of 1988, 1989 and 1990. Copepods were the major components of epipelagic Zooplankton (in numbers) with dominance of Metridia gerlachei (1988 and 1989) and small calanoids and cyclopoids (1990). Euphausiids and salps were the next most abundant groups. The percent composition of euphausiids decreased from 1988 to 1990 while that of salps increased. The abundance of salps exceeded euphausiids and major taxa of copepods in 1990. Local patches of polychaetes and amphipods were also found. Statistically significant annual variations with increased numbers in 1990 were found by analyses of variance in total abundance, abundances of copepods, salps, chaetognaths and amphipods, but abundances of euphausiids, polychaetes and fishes showed no significant annual variations. When the study area was divided geographically, horizontal variability in abundance within each year showed no significance in total abundance, abundances of copepods, euphausiids, amphipods and fishes, but significance in salps, polychaetes and chaetognaths. Results of site clustering based on covariances of abundances of eleven major taxa were well matched, though not perfect, with the distribution of surface water temperatures which could be used as a tracer of source water masses suggesting that spatial variation was related to hydrodynamic conditions. Factor analyses showed that annual and spatial variations in abundance were mainly caused by only two taxa, Metridia gerlachei and salps (mostly Salpa thompsoni). These two taxa were responsible for about 60% and 30% of total variance, respectively, and were useful indicators of the interannual variation. That is, 1988 and 1989 were the years of M. gerlachei, and 1990 was the year of salps. From vertically stratified MOCNESS samples, it was shown that the major taxa in this study area were active vertical migrators. While most samples obtained by relatively shallow tows (uppermost 100 m depth) were composed of exclusively one or two taxa, those from relatively deep tows (down to 200 m) showed various patterns of vertical stratification suggesting that the patterns of vertical migration were species specific. Species specific ontogenetic vertical migration associated with elevated habitat temperatures also seemed to be responsible for the annual variation in zooplankton distribution in the upper water column.  相似文献

The terrestrial carnivorous bladderwort, Utricularia uliginosa Vahl. (Lentibulariaceae) was studied to determine the species assemblage present in traps of these plants in situ across four sites over 15 months. The immediate soil environment was also sampled to determine the fauna present, and to compare the fauna present in traps with the fauna in the environment. The soil fauna consisted of 10 taxon types, which occupied either pelagic, epibenthic or interstitial microhabitats. All were found in traps of U. uliginosa, with the main prey being interstitial taxa followed by epibenthic and occasionally pelagic taxa. Numbers of individuals of the two most abundant soil taxa (nematodes, Elaphoidella) varied independently across the four sites over the 15 months of the study, as did numbers of Elaphoidella in the traps of U. uliginosa. Numbers of nematodes in the traps of U. uliginosa showed significant differences among sites, but not differences among times. Comparison of the trap fauna with the soil fauna revealed differences in relative abundance between soil samples and trap samples for two of the three taxa examined. There was an under‐representation of nematodes in the traps relative to numbers in surrounding soil. There was an over‐representation of the copepod Elaphoidella in the traps of U. uliginosa relative to numbers in soil at some of the times of sampling. Acarina were equally abundant in soil and trap samples. The patterns observed for Elaphoidella and nematodes may be due to selectivity in trapping by U. uliginosa, and/or differences in digestibility of the prey. Elaphoidella individuals were found to be attracted to U. uliginosa in a behavioural experiment. This may contribute to the over‐representation of Elaphoidella in the traps of U. uliginosa in the field.  相似文献

Four hundred and thirty two suprabenthic hauls with a modified Macer-GIROQ sledge were taken over the period 1988–1996. Fifteen sites within the English Channel were sampled from the Roscoff and Plymouth waters to the Dover Strait, including the Bay of Morlaix, Bay of Saint Brieuc, the Bay of Seine and the Seine Estuary. The main characteristics of the Benthic Boundary Layer (BBL) macrofauna in the English Channel were elucidated from these data. BBL macrofauna was found over the whole water column sampled (10–150 m). Firstly, the number of species collected was very high (up to 116 species for five hauls) except in the Seine estuary. Numerically, mysids were the dominant group of organisms collected with the sledge, followed by amphipods, cumaceans, isopods and decapods. Abundance and biomass of the fauna were very high in the Seine estuary, especially in the mesohaline and oligohaline zones (maximum >216000 ind. 100 m-3; >200 g AFDW 100 m-3) where the specialised mysids Neomysis integer and Mesopodopsis slabberi occurred in very high abundance. At other sites, the abundance and biomass were moderate (100–10000 ind. 100 m-3; 15–2000 mg AFDW 100 m-3). Abundance reached its maximum when mysids or swarms of amphipods of the genus Apherusa were collected, and during the reproduction of the amphipods of the genus Ampelisca, as in June in the Bay of Morlaix. The number of species, abundance and biomass showed seasonal changes in all sites with, in general, lowest values in winter or spring, and highest values in autumn. For the open sea sites, two main geographical gradients were identified: i) in spring, a higher number of species in the western part of the Channel compared with the eastern part of the Channel and, in autumn, a higher number of species in the eastern part of the Channel compared with the western part, and ii) an increasing density gradient from west to east at spring and a decreasing gradient from west to east during the autumn. The suprabenthic fauna of the Channel can be considered as a unique community including three kinds of species: (i) good swimmer species which were common at all the time and all sites: e.g. Anchialina agilis, Gastrosaccus spp., Haplostylus spp. and Apherusa spp., (ii) species present at all sites only at night: e.g. Atylus vedlomensis, Megaluropus agilis, Melphipidella macra, Orchomenella nana, Pseudocuma longicornis, Schistomysis ornata and Synchelidium maculatum, and iii) species collected at one or a limited number of sites only at night: e.g. Ampelisca spp. at Pierre Noire and Diastylis spp. at site F. The Seine estuary supports a typical suprabenthic estuarine community. Elements of the suprabenthic fauna also showed significant daily rhythms which took several forms depending on the species under consideration.  相似文献

Stomach contents were identified from 206 Antarctic starry skate (Amblyraja georgiana) that were collected during three groundfish surveys (September 2007, April 2008 and January 2009) at South Georgia, Southern Ocean. The diet of A. georgiana varied with skate size and between years. Preferred prey included fish (particularly for larger individuals) and Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba, as well as amphipods, polychaetes and other benthic fauna. The skate A. georgiana appears to be an opportunistic predator, and the clear presence of Antarctic krill in this demersal predator’s diet may indicate a benthic habit of this euphausiid species, which has hitherto mainly been considered as occupying a purely pelagic niche.  相似文献

Fertilization (phosphorus and nitrogen) of Kootenay Lake, British Columbia, was begun in 1992 in an attempt to increase food resources for declining stocks of kokanee salmon. In 1992 and 1993, significant changes in diatom abundance, species composition, diversity, and morphology of individual species were observed in the fertilized North Arm in comparison to the unfertilized South Arm. Effects of fertilization were most obvious during the spring. During summer stratification, fertilization did not result in significant changes in total abundance, but changes in species composition were observed. In 1993, with continued fertilization of the North Arm, diatom abundance in both spring and summer was significantly higher than at the same sites in 1992. No significant differences were observed in the unfertilized South Arm. Diatom abundance was significantly correlated with dissolved inorganic nitrogen (positive) and dissolved reactive silica (negative). Diatom assemblages in the fertilized North Arm in both the spring and summer of 1993 were dominated by Asterionella formosa and Fragilaria crotonensis, taxa considered mesotrophic. Abundance of the oligotrophic taxa Rhizosolenia eriensis and Cyclotella michiganiana was higher in the South Arm than in the North Arm. Differences in diatom assemblages between the two arms in both years were further summarized by multivariate statistical analyses. Morphological variations in two small Cyclotella species (C. comensis and C. cf. pseudostelligera) were observed between the fertilized and “control” stations. Populations of both species from fertilized stations exhibited stronger silicification with coarser striations and a smaller mean size.  相似文献

Hydroides dianthus (Verrill), a serpulid polychaete which secretes calcareous tubes, provides microhabitats for a variety of benthic invertebrates in Delaware Bay. These microhabitats function as biologically generated refuges and physical heterogeneities for at least 54 species. Dominance was measured by the biological index value which yielded 12 taxa that comprised 90% by number of the serpulid assemblage. These taxa included seven polychaetes, two amphipods, Nematoda, Oligochaeta, and Harpacticoida. In addition to the refuges provided by the serpulids, it was concluded that this temperate serpulid assemblage was comparable in function but not scale to calcareous biogenic assemblages in lower latitudes.  相似文献

A survey was conducted to examine spatial variations in the population density of major meiofaunal taxa and the assemblage structure of free-living marine nematodes within 5 mangrove areas on the west and east coast of Zanzibar. Meiofauna densities in surface sediments (0–5 cm) ranged from 205 to 5263 ind. 10 cm2, being on average 1493 ind. 10 cm2. Of the 17 major taxa recorded, nematodes dominated (64–99%) in all samples while harpacticoid copepods were usually second most abundant. Within all areas the numbers of meiofauna were very variable and significant differences among areas were only detected for oligochaetes and turbellarians. Densities of nematodes, harpacticoids, polychaetes and turbellarians were, however, significantly (P<0.001) higher at low water stations compared with mid and high water stations. Harpacticoids were negatively correlated with the numbers of fiddler crab (Uca spp.) burrows. Other correlations between environmental factors (grain size, temperature, salinity, oxygen tension, prop root density, fiddler crab burrows) and major meiofaunal taxa were non-significant. A total of 94 nematode genera were recorded from four mangrove areas. The most abundant and frequent genera were Microlaimus and Spirinia, followed by Desmodora and Metachromadora. Representatives of the genera most common in current study are found all over the globe. There was a high variation in nematode assemblage structure within and between sampling areas indicating the absence of a well defined nematode assemblage confined to mangrove areas. In a hypersaline area diversity was much reduced and where salinity was over 100%. the fauna was restricted to 3 nematode genera, Microlaimus, Theristus and Bathylaimus. Multidimensional scaling ordination (MDS) of the nematode genera separated samples taken from low water stations from other stations, the assemblage structure being significantly different at the low water stations. Numbers of selective deposit feeders were negatively correlated with average grain size and positively correlated with silt content.  相似文献

We conducted a microcosm experiment to evaluate the capability of fauna inhabiting or being transported by drifting filamentous algae to colonize defaunated sediment. We expected meiofauna would perform a quicker and more effective re-colonization of disturbed areas by means of the algal mats than their macrofaunal counterparts. Similarly, within meiofauna, we expected more mobile taxa such as ostracods and harpacticoids to colonize the sediment more readily than other more sedentary ones such as nematodes. Naturally drifting algae were collected from the field and placed in 1 l aquaria on top of 5 cm of defaunated sediment. After 3 and 6 days, one core sample (5 cm deep) was taken from each aquarium; the first 2 cm were sliced into 2 mm layers, and the remaining fraction into 1 cm layers. The sediment remaining in the aquaria was sieved through a 0.5 mm sieve to collect the re-colonizing macrofauna. The dominant macrofaunal taxa inhabiting the algae were juvenile bivalves and gastropods, with Cerastoderma glaucum accounting for the majority of the bivalves and Hydrobia sp. for most of the gastropods. After 3 and 6 days, the most abundant macrofaunal taxa colonizing the sediment were Cerastoderma glaucum, Hydrobia sp. and gammarid amphipods. Higher abundances were found after 6 days than after 3, though differences were not significant for any of the major taxa. Meiofauna inhabiting the algae were dominated by rotifers, nematodes, ostracods, chironomid larvae and harpacticoid copepods. Contrary to our predictions, nematode and harpacticoid species inhabiting the drifting algae were not driven to sediment re-colonization but remained in the algae. Our results indicate that some benthic animals may indeed benefit from drifting algal mats as a means of dispersal and re-colonization of previously defaunated sediments in relatively short periods of time. Also, they may contribute to explain some of the trends found in other studies, regarding species increase under drifting algae and the recovery patterns found in areas often exposed to algal conglomerates.  相似文献

Summary The sympagic fauna (= sea ice fauna) of the Barents Sea was investigated on nine (2–5 weeks) cruises in the period 1983–1988. The amphipods Apherusa glacialis, Onisimus sp. and Gammarus wilkitzkii were the most conspicuous and abundant invertebrate species associated with the ice. Mean biomass-values ranged from 0 to about 2 g/m2, and were less than 0.001 g/m2 in five of the nine cruises. Apherusa glacialis, Onisimus sp. and Gammarus wilkitzkii are regarded as autochthonous sympagic species, and as such dependent upon a permanent ice cover. Allochthonous sympagic species were few and without significant importance. The variations in species abundance and biomass were believed to be closely connected to the age and drift-history of the ice. The density of the sympagic fauna increases as a result of increasing influx of ice into the Barents Sea from the Arctic Ocean. Density of the sympagic fauna were believed to increase with decreasing distance to the multiyear/first-year ice boundary. A. glacialis was found further away from the spreading centers and in higher numbers than the other sympagic species due to its greater motility. No day-night variations in the occurrences of the sympagic fauna were recorded.  相似文献

Hyperiid amphipods are pelagic crustaceans that live associated with gelatinous zooplankton including medusae, ctenophores, siphonophores, and salps. Standard plankton sampling disrupts natural associations, so the most reliable way to determine an association is through direct observation of the organisms in their environment. The planktonic fauna of the Gulf of California dwelling between 10 and 3000 m was surveyed using SCUBA diving and a remotely operated submersible (ROV) during March 2003. Here we report our observations on a total of 14 symbiotic associations found between the hyperiid amphipods and various taxa of gelatinous zooplankton. We found parental care behavior in a group of amphipods (Oxycephalidae) in which this phenomenon has not been previously reported. For two hyperiid species, Euthamneus rostratus and Vibilia australis, we present the first information on their symbiotic relations. Additional hosts were discovered for other well-known and widely distributed hyperiid species (i.e. Brachyscelus crusculum, Hyperoche medusarum). Photographic evidence of some of these interactions is included in this contribution. This is the first survey of these relationships in the Gulf of California, and many aspects of the ecology and biology of these symbioses remain to be studied.  相似文献
