Background:Irisin as an exercise-induced myokine was proposed to improve bone health. This study investigated the role of serum irisin (s-irisin) in patients with osteoporosis (OP) through correlating to most biological bone markers and oxidative stress.Methods:A cross-sectional study recruited an eligible 175 postmenopausal women at Al-Hussien Teaching Hospital, Iraq. They were scanned by DEXA and stratified into two groups based on T-score; the first 95 patients as control group (GI) with −1 ≤ T-score and the second 80 patients as cases group (GII) with T-score ≤ −2.5. Demographic criteria were age, bone mineral density (BMD, g/cm2) and T-score. Serum irisin, total serum calcium (s-calcium), serum inorganic phosphate (s-phosphate), serum alkaline phosphatase (s-ALP), serum 25 [OH] vitamin D, the serum parathyroid hormone (s-PTH), serum Carboxy terminal collagen crosslinks (CTx), serum procollagen type I C-termidnal peptide (s-PICP), serum malondialdehyde (s-MDA) and serum superoxide dismutase (s-SOD) were collected from blood samples.Results:Serum irisin were 31.84 ± 2.65 vs. 20.88 ± 2.71 ng/mL for control and trial groups, respectively. Lower levels of BMD, T-score, 25 [OH] vitamin D, and s-irisin along with a higher serum levels of PTH, CTx, PICP, MDA and SOD were observed in patients with osteoporosis. All parameters were statistically meaningful upon correlation (p< 0.0001), except age and s-calcium (p= 0.0088 and p= 0.187, respectively).Conclusion:The results showed that, a significantly lower serum irisin levels among osteoporosis women, was intimately correlated to most bone turnover markers and it can be considered as encouraging results for clinical application in prediction and treatment of osteoporosis.Key Words: Bone turnover markers, DEXA scan, Irisin, T-score, BMD, osteoporosis, post-menopause  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine sensitivity and specificity of Pap tests for osteopenia and osteoporosis using bone mineral density (BMD) with dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) as the reference standard. STUDY DESIGN: DXA measurement was performed on 136 routine Pap smears. Results of DXA measurement were expressed in T-scores, indicating degree of deviation compared to a young adult population of same age and gender. Smears were grouped into atrophic and mature cell patterns. Using a stereologic analysis, mean areas of squamous cells, their nuclei and their cytoplasm were estimated. RESULTS: There was significant positive correlation between cell area and T-score (p < 0.001), as well as between cytoplasm area and T-score (p < 0.001). There was no significant relationship between nucleus area and T-score (p > 0.05). Mean T-scores of patients with atrophic cells were significantly lower than mean T-scores of patients with mature cell patterns (p < 0.001). The group including patients with atrophic or mature cells had a sensitivity of 61.4% and specificity of 86.4%, with positive predictive value of 95.9% in detecting patients with osteopenia or osteoporosis. CONCLUSION: Women with atrophic smear pattern are susceptible to osteopenia or osteoporosis; many cases could be detected with routine Pap test without additional costs.  相似文献

A multidisciplinary anthropological and epidemiological pilot field study of the Bayash population living in 6 villages of the eastern Croatian region of Baranya has been performed in 2005/06. The Bayash (or Boyash) belong to the Roma minority population speaking a distinct archaic dialect of the Romanian language. Since the bone mineral density values in the Roma have not been explored so far and the prevalence of osteoporosis is unknown for this ethnic minority group a screening by means of the Sahara Hologic clinical bone sonometer has been performed on 232 voluntary participants (73 males and 159 females). The prevalence of osteoporosis (T-score <-2.5) in the Bayash aged 50 and older is found to be 9.1% in males and 34.4% in females, which is substantially higher than in the general population of Croatia. The prevalence of T-values ranging from -1 to -2.5 indicating osteopenia is found to be 63.6% in males and 45.3% in females, while T-values within the normal range are found only in 27.3% males and 20.3% females. In addition to the low bone mass in older subjects, the mean estimated bone mineral density in all age groups of Bayash men and women was lower in comparison to the manufacturer's reference ranges for European population of the same age. Since body size effects could not be declined, the reference values that would be appropriate for the Roma population should be further explored. The high estimated prevalence of developed osteoporosis calls for attention and the survey should also be extended to exploring the association of low bone mineral density with particular life style and reproductive factors present in this semi-sedentary Roma population.  相似文献

Objective To explore whether the serum levels of magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca) differ between osteoporotic and nonosteoporotic elderly Chinese women. Methods Using WHO classification criteria based on bone mineral density (BMD), general healthy Chinese women older than 65 yr were classified as osteoporosis (OP), osteopenia, and normal group according to the T-score of the femur neck. Then their physical characteristics, serum levels of magnesium (sMg), calcium (sCa), and other biochemical measurements were analyzed. Results Altogether, 324 subjects were included in the final analysis with 77 in OP, 137 in osteopenia, 110 in normal group. The level of sMg in women with OP is significantly higher (0.91±0.11 mmol/L) than both the osteopenia (0.88±0.09 mmol/L) and the normal (0.87±0.08 mmol/L) even after being adjusted for both age and body mass index (BMI), which might result from potentially low levels of sCa. sMg inversely related to sCa in subjects with OP (r=−0.240, p=0.038), whereas the total levels of sCa and sMg kept relatively steady. Conclusion High content of sMg and potentially low content of sCa could be a feature of the serum profile of elderly Chinese women with OP, the clinical significance of which needs further elucidation. Supplementation of Mg for elderly Chinese women with OP did not appear to be necessary.  相似文献

Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease; it is an important health problem among postmenopausal women. We evaluated the association of three polymorphisms, T869C, C-509T and G915C, of the TGF-β1 gene with bone mineral density (BMD) serum TGF-β1 levels in 278 postmenopausal female osteopenia/osteoporosis subjects and 95 postmenopausal female control subjects. Serum TGF-β1 levels were significantly lower in osteopenia/osteoporosis subjects than in control subjects. Serum TGF-β1 levels of the CT+CC (T869C) genotype group were significantly lower in osteopenia/osteoporosis subjects than in control subjects (11.3 vs 15.8 ng/mL). There was a significant difference in the CT+CC (T869C) genotype frequencies between the osteopenia/osteoporosis and control subjects (74.18 vs 60.22%; OR = 1.90, 95%CI = 1.16-3.12). In the age group of more than 50 years, subjects with the TC+CC genotype of T869C polymorphism had significantly increased risk of osteopenic/ osteoporotic bones at L1 (OR = 2.36, 95%CI = 1.37-4.07), L2 (OR = 1.71, 95%CI = 1.01-2.90), L3 (OR = 2.21, 95%CI = 1.23-3.98), L4 (OR = 1.74, 95%CI = 1.00-3.03) and the femoral neck (OR = 1.80, 95%CI = 1.04-3.12). The CT+CC genotype of the T869C polymorphism of the TGF-β1 gene was found to be associated with lower serum TGF-β1 in osteopenia/osteoporosis subjects and increased risk of osteopenic and osteoporotic fracture at L1-4, femoral neck and total hip in postmenopausal Thai women. Logistic regression analysis showed that T869C polymorphism is a significant risk factor for osteopenia/ osteoporosis. We concluded that T869C polymorphism of the TGF-β1 gene has an impact on decreased serum TGF-β1 levels and influences susceptibility to osteopenia/osteoporosis in Thai women.  相似文献

It has been reported in several studies that there may be a significant correlation between reproductive history and the risk of osteoporosis due to the effect of estrogen. Under this hypothesis, however, it is unclear whether the age at first delivery has any major influences on the risk of osteoporosis. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between the age at first delivery and the risk of osteoporosis in Korean menopausal women. This study was performed using data from the 2008–2011 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and included 2,530 Korean postmenopausal women. The diagnosis of osteoporosis was made using the World Health Organization T-score criteria (T-score ≤ -2.5, at the femoral neck or lumbar spine). Participants were categorized into 3 groups according to age at first delivery: ≤23, 24–29, and ≥30 years. Older age, lower body mass index, lower calcium intake, later menarche, and earlier menopause increased the risk of osteoporosis, whereas hormone therapy and oral contraceptive use were associated with a decreased risk of osteoporosis. Postmenopausal women whose first delivery occurred at age 24–29 years were shown to have a significantly increased risk of osteoporosis (odds ratio, 2.124; 95% confidence interval, 1.096–4.113; P = 0.026) compared to those who first gave birth after the age of 30 years. These findings suggest that postmenopausal women whose first delivery occurred in their mid to late 20s, a period during which bone mass slowly accumulates to the peak, are at an increased risk of osteoporosis.  相似文献

Purpose

This study investigated the correlations among BMD, nutrient intake, basal physical fitness and serum markers in elderly women with osteopenia.

Methods

Bone Mineral Density (BMD) was measured in 54 elderly women (60–77yrs) by using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). The subjects were divided into an osteopenia group (OG; n = 29) and a normal group (NG; n = 25). A physical fitness test was conducted to determine muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, agility, and balance. The dietary nutrient intake for one day was analyzed. The serum Ca, Pi and Mg concentration was also analyzed.

Results

There was significant correlation between All subject’s weight and their total-BMD as well as the T-score (p < .01). There was also significant correlation between the fat free mass and Total-BMD (p < .01). There was significant positive correlation between energy intake and dietary carbohydrate with Total-BMD and T-score in the OG (p < .05). The Serum Pi of the OG was significantly lower than that of the NG (p < .05), and there was significant correlation with the BMD in most regions as well as with the Total-BMD and T-score (p < .05, p < .01).

Conclusion

These results suggested that the fat free mass in elderly women plays an important role in maintaining their BMD and that sufficient caloric intake would be likely to improve BMD in elderly women with osteopenia. In addition, the results suggested the possibility of a decrease in bone mass by hypophosphatemia in elderly women.  相似文献

AIMS: Conflicting results exist regarding bone mineral density (BMD), metabolism and reproductive function of adult patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). We evaluated the long-term outcome and the impact of chronic glucocorticoid replacement in these patients. METHODS: Physical characteristics, serum hormone concentrations, BMD and metabolism were studied in 45 consecutive CAH adult patients. RESULTS: Among the 36 women, only 14 (39%) had regular menses. Among the 27 women with classical CAH, the mean number of surgical reconstructions of virilized genitalia was 2.1 +/- 0.2. Twenty of them (74%) were sexually active. Three men presented with testicular adrenal rest tumors. Twenty-five patients (55%) had decreased BMD at the femoral neck and/or at the lumbar spine. BMI was correlated with the BMD T-score at the femoral neck (p < 0.001) and at the lumbar spine (p < 0.01). Hydrocortisone dose was negatively correlated with the BMD T-score at the femoral neck (p = 0.04). Subjects with osteopenia had a significantly lower BMI and received higher hydrocortisone dose than those with normal BMD. Overweight was found in 21 patients (47%). There was a significantly positive correlation between HOMA and BMI (p < 0.001), and between HOMA and 17-OHP levels (p = 0.016). CONCLUSIONS: Adult patients with CAH treated with long-term glucocorticoids are at risk for decreased BMD, increased BMI, and disturbed reproductive function.  相似文献

Linkage of interleukin 6 locus to human osteopenia by sibling pair analysis   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Osteopenia and osteoporosis are common human conditions considered to result from the interplay of multiple genetic and environmental factors. Twin and family studies have yielded strong correlations between levels of bone mass and a number of genetic factors. The genes involved could regulate metabolism, formation and resorption of bone, all processes that determine bone mass. We tested 192 sibling pairs of adult Japanese women from 136 families for genetic linkage between osteopenia and allelic variants of four candidate genes (interleukin-6, interleukin-6 receptor, calcium-sensing receptor, and matrix gla protein) using qualitative and quantitative methods, and using as genetic markers dinucleotide-repeat polymorphisms present in or near each of those loci. The interleukin-6 locus showed evidence of linkage to osteopenia analyzed as a qualitative trait, with mean allele sharing of 0.40 (P=0.0001) in discordant pairs and 0.55 (P=0.04) in concordant affected pairs. Variation at this locus was also linked to decreased bone mineral density measured as a quantitative trait (P=0.02). Analyses limited only to the post-menopausal women showed similar or even stronger results. No other locus among those tested showed any evidence of linkage by either method. The results provided strong evidence that genetic variation at the interleukin-6 locus affects regulation of bone mineral metabolism and confers risk for osteopenia and osteoporosis in adult women.  相似文献

Raloxifene is the first Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) approved for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Acting as an estrogen agonist in the skeleton and on lipid metabolism, raloxifene maintains bone mineral density (BMD) and prevents new vertebral fractures while improving the lipid profile in postmenopausal women. In an osteoporosis prevention study, 601 women without osteoporosis, aged 45 to 60 years, were assigned to receive a placebo or raloxifene 30, 60, or 150 mg/day. All women received calcium (400 to 600 mg/day). Raloxifene 60 mg increased BMD by 2.4% at both the lumbar spine and hip compared with the placebo at 36 months. More importantly, however, raloxifene significantly reduced the risk of new vertebral fractures in Multiple Outcomes of Raloxifene Evaluation (MORE), a placebo-controlled, double-blind randomized trial of 7705 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. The women, with a mean age of 66.5 years, and with hip or spine T-score <-2.5 and/or prevalent vertebral fractures, were assigned to receive either a placebo or 60 mg or 120 mg of raloxifene. All women were provided supplemental calcium (500 mg/day) and vitamin D (400 IU/day). After 36 months, raloxifene 60 mg/day and 120 mg/day, reduced the risk of new vertebral fractures by 55% (RR 0.45, 95% CI 0.3, 0.7; p<0.001), and 40% (RR 0.60, CI 0.4, 0.9) in women without prevalent baseline fractures, respectively; and by 31% (RR 0.7, 95% CI 0.6, 0.9; p<0.001), and 49% (RR 0.5, CI 0.4, 0.6) in women with prevalent baseline fractures compared with the placebo. There was no difference in the proportion of women reporting non-traumatic, non - spine fractures among women receiving raloxifene compared to the placebo-treated women. Compared with placebo, BMD increased after 36 months by 2.1 and 2.6% at the femoral neck and spine, respectively, in the 60mg raloxifene group, and by 2.4 and 2.7% at the femoral neck and spine, respectively, in the 120mg raloxifene group. By 40 months of follow-up, there was a higher rate of deep venous thrombosis (38 cases) and pulmonary embolus (17 cases) in the combined raloxifene groups than in the placebo group (5 and 3 cases,), with a relative risk of 3.1, (CI 1.5-6.2). By 40 months, 54 women had a confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer with a relative risk compared to placebo of 0.35, (CI, 0.21-0.58). Raloxifene therapy for 3 years maintains BMD in healthy postmenopausal women and significantly reduces the risk of new vertebral fractures by about half in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Raloxifene also reduces the risk of breast cancer by 65% in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis thus providing a new choice for addressing postmenopausal health concerns.  相似文献

To explore the role of plasma miRNAs in exosomes in early postmenopausal women. Small RNA sequencing was implemented to clarify the expression of miRNA in plasma exosomes obtained from 15 postmenopausal women, divided into groups of osteoporosis, osteopenia, and normal bone mass based on bone mineral density. Differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) were identified by comparing miRNA expression profiles. Five putative miRNAs, miR-224-3p, miR-25-5p, miR-302a-3p, miR-642a-3p, and miR-766-5p were confirmed by real-time PCR; miRNA target genes were obtained from 4 databases: miRWalk, miRDB, RNA22, and TargetScan. The miRNA-mRNA- Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) networks were analyzed, and the DEMs' potential role was investigated by gene ontology terms and KEGG pathway annotation. The results suggest that characterizing plasma exosomal miRNA profiles of early postmenopausal women by small RNA sequencing could identify novel exo-miRNAs involved in bone remodeling, and miR-642a-3p maybe contribute to the prediction and diagnosis of early postmenopausal osteoporosis.  相似文献

Objective

To assess patterns of anti-osteoporosis medication (AOM) use over 3 years among women at high risk of major fracture.

Methods

The GLOW registry follows a cohort of more than 40,000 women aged ≥55 from 615 primary care practices in 10 countries. Self-administered surveys (baseline, 12, 24, and 36 months) collected data on patient characteristics, perception of fracture risk, and AOM use. FRAX scores were calculated from the baseline surveys and women classified as high risk if their FRAX 10-year probability of major fracture was ≥20%.

Results

A total of 5774 women were classified as at high risk and had complete data over 3 years. At baseline, 2271 (39%) reported receiving AOM, 739 (13%) reported prior but not current use, and 2764 (48%) said they had never used AOM. Over 3 years, 85% of baseline non-users continued as non-users and 15% initiated AOM; among baseline users, 49% continued the same medication class, 29% stopped AOM, and 12% switched. Women who stopped AOM were less likely to self-report osteoporosis (HR 0.56, 95% CI 0.42–0.75) than women who continued AOM. Compared with non-users who did not begin treatment, women initiating AOM were more likely to report a diagnosis of osteoporosis (HR 11.3, 95% CI 8.2–15.5) or osteopenia (HR 4.1, 95% CI 2.9–5.7) and be very concerned about osteoporosis (HR 1.9, 95% CI 1.3–2.8).

Conclusions

Less than 40% of women at high risk of fracture reported taking AOM. Women who stopped AOM were less likely to believe they have osteoporosis. Women who initiated treatment appeared motivated primarily by a diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia and concern about the condition.  相似文献

The research examining determinants of physical activity among Hispanics focuses on Mexican Americans, although Puerto Ricans are the second largest Hispanic subgroup in the United States. The purpose of this study was to explore factors influencing physical activity among Puerto Rican women in the urban northeastern United States. Two bilingual female investigators administered the Women and Physical Activity Survey by telephone to a convenience sample of Puerto Rican women (n = 28). Women were categorized as physically active if they performed moderate-intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day at least 5 days a week or vigorous-intensity physical activity for at least 20 minutes a day at least 3 days a week. Women not meeting these criteria were classified as physically inactive. Chi-squared testing revealed whether the physically active and inactive women differed among physical activity determinants. Respondents had a mean age of 36 years and were predominately college-educated (64%) and physically active (68%). More physically active women (90%) had an annual income of more than $35,000 than did the inactive women (10%) (p < 0.05). More physically active women belonged to community groups (42% versus 0%), lived in communities where people exercise (95% versus 11%), and felt their community was good for their family (100% versus 67%) than did the inactive women, respectively (p < 0.05). The physically active women reported the presence of exercise facilities (p = 0.084) and well-maintained sidewalks (p = 0.087) to be more important for exercise accessibility than did the inactive women. Annual income, sense of community, and exercise accessibility were the most important physical activity determinants in this convenience sample of Puerto Rican women. Factors influencing the physical activity levels of Puerto Rican women should continue to be explored so that targeted, culturally appropriate strategies can be developed to promote physically activity in this population.  相似文献

We analyzed the effect of growth hormone replacement therapy (36 months) analyzed at a dose adjusted to maintain serum insulin-like growth factor-I level between the median and the upper end of the age-related reference range on bone mineral density, body composition, and carbohydrate metabolism with respect to gender and age in 20 adult patients (9 women, 11 men, mean age: 43 years, range: 21-61 years). The lumbar and femoral T-score was increased after 12 and after 18 months of therapy respectively in men (p < 0.001 and p = 0.002), but did not changed significantly in women. The increase of femoral T-score was greater in young men (< or = 45 years, n = 6) than old men (> 45 years, n = 5, p < 0.001). Body fat was lower in men than in women after 6 months (p = 0.002). The waist/hip ratio only decreased in women (p = 0.044). The waist circumference decreased in both genders after 6 months of therapy (p < 0.001), but more markedly in females than in males (p < 0.05). The sum of skinfold thicknesses was reduced in males after 6 months of therapy (p < 0.001). Changes in body composition parameters measured were independent of age. The glycosylated hemoglobin increased without sex or age difference after 12 months of initiation of therapy (p < 0.001), but fasting glucose and insulin levels did not change during the therapy. Our results indicate that the effect of growth hormone replacement on bone mineral content in adults is age- and gender-dependent, gender dependent on body composition, but independent of age and gender on carbohydrate metabolism.  相似文献

Purpose

Although the concern about coffee-associated health problems is increasing, the effect of coffee on osteoporosis is still conflicting. This study aimed to determine the relationship between coffee consumption and bone health in Korean postmenopausal women.

Methods

A population-based, cross-sectional study was performed using a nationally representative sample of the Korean general population. All 4,066 postmenopausal women (mean age 62.6 years) from the fourth and fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2008–2011), who completed the questionnaire about coffee consumption and had data of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) examination. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured using DXA at the femoral neck and lumbar spine and osteoporosis was defined by World Health Organization T-score criteria in addition to self-report of current anti-osteoporotic medication use.

Results

After adjusting for various demographic and lifestyle confounders (including hormonal factors), subjects in the highest quartile of coffee intake had 36% lower odds for osteoporosis compared to those in the lowest quartile (Adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 0.64; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.43–0.95; P for trend = 0.015). This trend was consistent in osteoporosis of lumbar spine and femoral neck (aOR = 0.65 and 0.55; P for trend = 0.026 and 0.003, respectively). In addition, age- and body mass index (BMI)-adjusted BMD of the femoral neck and lumbar spine increased with higher coffee intake (P for trend = 0.019 and 0.051, respectively).

Conclusions

Coffee consumption may have protective benefits on bone health in Korean postmenopausal women in moderate amount. Further, prospective studies are required to confirm this association.  相似文献

Many clinical conditions, including osteoporosis, are associated with serum levels of sex steroids. Enzymes that regulate rate-limiting steps of steroidogenic pathways, such as CYP17 and CYP19, are also regarded as significant factors that may cause the development of these conditions. We investigated the association of two common polymorphisms, in the promoter region (T→C substitution) of CYP17 and exon 3 (G→A) of CYP19, with bone mineral density (BMD) in the lumbar spine and femoral neck and serum androgen/estradiol, in a case-control study of 172 postmenopausal women aged 62.3 ± 9.6 years (mean ± SD). The CYP17 TC genotype was significantly overrepresented in patients compared to controls, and TC genotype neck T-score and lumbar T-score values were significantly higher in patients compared to controls. CYP17 TC and TT genotype testosterone and DHEA-SO(4) levels were lower in patients compared to controls. All three genotypes of CYP19 had almost the same distribution among patients. The CYP19 AG genotype, however, was most frequent among controls. CYP19 lumbar BMD levels were close to each other among the different genotypes; however, AA and AG genotypes were significantly lower in patients. Testosterone and DHEA-SO(4) levels in the CYP19 GG genotype were higher compared to those of the other genotypes in patients but not in controls. CYP19 GA individuals had lower E(2) levels and lower BMD in controls and patients. Femoral neck BMD and lumbar T-score were also diminished with GA transition. In conclusion, CYP17 and CYP19 gene polymorphisms were found to be associated with osteoporosis in postmenopausal women in Turkey.  相似文献

In osteoporosis, the main cause for concern is the increase in the risk of fractures. The level of bone mineral density (BMD) measured by various techniques has been shown to be a strong predictor of fracture risk in postmenopausal women. However, half of patients with incident fractures have BMD value above the diagnostic threshold of osteoporosis defined as a T-score of -2.5 SD or more below the average value of young healthy women. Clearly there is a need for improvement in the identification of patients at risk for fracture. Several prospective studies have shown that an increased bone resorption evaluated by specific biochemical markers was associated with increased risk of the hip, spine and non-vertebral fractures independently of BMD. The use of bone markers in individual patients may be appropriate in some situations, especially in women who are not detected at risk by BMD measurements. For example, in the OFELY study including 668 postmenopausal women followed prospectively over 9 years, we found that among the 115 incident fractures, 54 (47%) actually occurred in non-osteoporotic women. Among these women, the combination of bone markers and history of previous fracture was highly predictive of fracture risk. Thus, bone markers may be used in the assessment of fracture risk in selected cases in which BMD and clinical risk factors are not enough to take a treatment decision. Advances in our knowledge of bone matrix biochemistry, most notably of post-translational modifications in type I collagen, may allow identification of biochemical markers that reflect changes in the material property of bone, which is an important determinant of bone strength. Preliminary in vitro studies indicate that the extent of post-translational modifications of collagen--which can be reflected in vivo by the measurement of the urinary ratio between native and isomerised type I collagen--play a role in determining the mechanical competence of cortical bone, independently of BMD. Further studies in osteoporosis should explore the changes in these biochemical parameters of bone matrix as they may represent a key component of bone quality.  相似文献

It has been shown that the trace elements and lipids play role in the growth, development and maintenance of bones. We aimed to investigate serum selenium (Se), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu) and lipid (total cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol) levels in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, osteopenia and in healthy controls, and to determine the relationship between Se, Zn, Cu and lipid parameters and bone mineral density (BMD). The study included 107 postmenopausal women; 35 healthy (group 1), 37 osteopenic (group 2) and 35 osteoporotic (group 3). The women in all three groups were carefully matched for body mass index (BMI). Serum concentrations of Se, Zn and Cu were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Plasma Se, Cu, Zn and lipid levels were similar in all groups (p?>?0.05). When we combined the women in each of the three groups, and considered them as one group (n?=?107) we found a positive correlation between BMI and lumbar vertebra BMD, femur neck BMD, femur total BMD; a positive correlation between TG and femur neck BMD, femur total BMD; a positive correlation between Zn and lumbar vertebra BMD (total T score) (p??0.05). Although BMI has a positive effect on BMD, trace elements and lipids, except Zn and TG, did not directly and correlatively influence BMD. Further studies are needed to clarify the role and relationship of trace elements and lipid parameters in postmenopausal osteoporosis.  相似文献
