In experiments on rats it has been demonstrated that in the acute period of uninjured parts of the lungs periodic changes of protein, lipid and glucose concentrations developed. In uninjured parts of the lungs one can observe more concentration of lipids and in injured parts-more glucose. The changes of substrates, concentrations in the lungs are due to not only the changes of venous blood excess in the lungs, but are connected with metabolic changes in the cells of the injured and uninjured parts of the lungs. The metabolic changes in the lungs in the acute period of chest trauma influence the creation of such indices of gas exchange as PaCO2 and PACO2.  相似文献

Studies were conducted on three herbaceous plant species growing in naturally high solar UV environments in the subalpine of Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA, to determine if diurnal changes in epidermal UV transmittance (TUV) occur in these species, and to test whether manipulation of the solar radiation regime could alter these diurnal patterns. Additional field studies were conducted at Logan, Utah, USA, to determine if solar UV was causing diurnal TUV changes and to evaluate the relationship between diurnal changes in TUV and UV-absorbing pigments. Under clear skies, TUV, as measured with a UV-A-pulse amplitude modulation fluorometer for leaves of Verbascum thapsus and Oenothera stricta growing in native soils and Vicia faba growing in pots, was highest at predawn and sunset and lowest at midday. These patterns in TUV closely tracked diurnal changes in solar radiation and were the result of correlated changes in fluorescence induced by UV-A and blue radiation but not photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm) or initial fluorescence yield (Fo). The magnitude of the midday reduction in TUV was greater for young leaves than for older leaves of Verbascum . Imposition of artificial shade eliminated the diurnal changes in TUV in Verbascum , but reduction in solar UV had no effect on diurnal TUV changes in Vicia . In Vicia , the diurnal changes in TUV occurred without detectable changes in the concentration of whole-leaf UV-absorbing compounds. Results suggest that plants actively control diurnal changes in UV shielding, and these changes occur in response to signals other than solar UV; however, the underlying mechanisms responsible for rapid changes in TUV remain unclear.  相似文献

The auditory system consists of the ascending and descending (corticofugal) systems. The corticofugal system forms multiple feedback loops. Repetitive acoustic or auditory cortical electric stimulation activates the cortical neural net and the corticofugal system and evokes cortical plastic changes as well as subcortical plastic changes. These changes are short-term and are specific to the properties of the acoustic stimulus or electrically stimulated cortical neurons. These plastic changes are modulated by the neuromodulatory system. When the acoustic stimulus becomes behaviorally relevant to the animal through auditory fear conditioning or when the cortical electric stimulation is paired with an electric stimulation of the cholinergic basal forebrain, the cortical plastic changes become larger and long-term, whereas the subcortical changes stay short-term, although they also become larger. Acetylcholine plays an essential role in augmenting the plastic changes and in producing long-term cortical changes. The corticofugal system has multiple functions. One of the most important functions is the improvement and adjustment (reorganization) of subcortical auditory signal processing for cortical signal processing.  相似文献

Three methods were used to distinguish the characteristics of changes in climate variability and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) during the period from 1982 to 2000 in China. Great changes in climate variability and an increased trend in NDVI were observed. The changes in precipitation variability were greater than the changes in temperature variability in each month, which is attributed to changes in the monsoon system in East Asia. The abrupt changes in climate and NDVI were more significant in 1983 than in the other years due to the impacts of El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Using these results, the influences of changes in climate variability on vegetation were studied in the whole nation, and eight regions were defined according to the vegetation division map of China. The results show that abrupt climate changes at a small scale cannot cause abrupt NDVI changes directly. At a nationwide level, over a longer time scale the persistence of above/below average temperature determines the changes in NDVI; at a shorter time scale, changes in the magnitude of precipitation influence NDVI significantly. Such regional climate variability affects vegetation in different ways owing to the diversity of vegetation types, climatic conditions and topography of the land.  相似文献

Separated thyroid follicles can be maintained in suspension culture in Coon's modified F-12 medium in 0.5% calf serum. If the serum concentration is raised to 5%, the follicles undergo inversion in 3-5 d. During the process of inversion, epithelial cells can be observed in intermediate stages of polarity reversal. The earliest ultrastructural changes recognized are surface changes in which tight junctions and microvilli appear at the lateral margins of the cell near the medium. Later, changes in the distribution of intracellular organelles occur. The Golgi apparatus shifts towards the end of the cell facing the medium, and lysosomes shift toward the luminal end of the cell. The right junctions and microvilli at the luminal end of the cell disappear sometime after the cytoplasmic organelles rearrange. The luminal colloid disappears only after the surface changes (loss of tight junctions and microvilli) occur at the luminal end of the cell. There appears to be some regulation of the order in which changes occur during polarity reversal of the thyroid epithelial cell.  相似文献

On the basis of morphokinetic synthesis principles the method of determination of summarizing criterion of microcirculatory system changes was developed. It consists of marked characteristics of changes of a number of the most important morphofunctional phenomena of each of this system compartments -- interstitial, lymphatic, blood and cellular -- with their successive summation to obtain the systemic microcirculation index. The experimental dehydration in rats being a model has shown that systemic microcirculatory index was 2 times as large in 3 days of dehydration, more than 3 times -- in 6 days, and 4, 5 times -- in 12 days. In the initial stage of the experiments maximal changes were found in interstitial compartment of the microcirculatory system. The intermediate period of dehydration differed by predominant changes of vascular compartment when the lymphatic phenomena were more evident than the hemomicrocirculatory ones. In the later stage of dehydration the cellular component changes of tissues and organs were predominant.  相似文献

Regulatory evolution has frequently been proposed as the primary mechanism driving morphological evolution. This is because regulatory changes may be less likely to cause deleterious pleiotropic effects than changes in protein structure, and consequently have a higher likelihood to be beneficial. We examined the potential for mutations in trans acting regulatory elements to drive phenotypic change, and the predictability of such change. We approach these questions by the study of the phenotypic scope and size of controlled alteration in the developmental network of the bacterium Myxococcus xanthus. We perturbed the expression of a key regulatory gene (fruA) by constructing independent in-frame deletions of four trans acting regulatory loci that modify its expression. While mutants retained developmental capability, the deletions caused changes in the expression of fruA and a dramatic shortening of time required for completion of development. We found phenotypic changes in the majority of traits measured, indicating pleiotropic effects of changes in regulation. The magnitude of the change for different traits was variable but the extent of differences between the mutants and parental type were consistent with changes in fruA expression. We conclude that changes in the expression of essential regulatory regions of developmental networks may simultaneously lead to modest as well as dramatic morphological changes upon which selection may subsequently act.  相似文献

The investigators studied annual changes in rhodanese activity in mitochondria and cytosol of frog liver cells (Rana temporaria) and found that the value of the enzyme-specific activity was higher in mitochondria than in cytosol, showing significant seasonal fluctuations. 2. The character of changes in the rhodanese activity in mitochondria, regardless of the sex of the studied animal, was demonstrated to be dependent upon the seasonal changes in frog thyroid gland function. 3. In the supernatant fraction of R. temporaria liver homogenate, seasonal changes of rhodanese specific activity seemed to be related to changes in hepatic function.  相似文献

In the herbaceous perennials, seasonal changes in the amount of reserve substances play an important role in the production processes of whole plants. Mutohet al. (1968) indirectly estimated the amount of reserve substances stored in the rhizome ofMiscanthus sacchariflorus by measuring the bulk density of the rhizome, and found aarked seasonal changes. In the present study seasonal changes in the carbohydrate and crude protein content of the rhizome were determined and the results obtained were compared with the changes in the total amount of reserve substances estimated by means of changes in the bulk density. A good parallel seasonal relationship was confirmed between the amount of consumable carbohydrate determined chemically and the quantity of reserve substances estimated from the changes in bulk density. The total yields of carbohydrate and crude protein were ca. 75% of the available reserve substances estimated from the changes of bulk density for the old rhizomes and ca. 65% for the new rhizomes in the middle of December.  相似文献

We introduced 248 single-point amino acid changes into hemagglutinin (HA) protein of the A/Aichi/2/68 (H3N2) strain by a PCR random mutation method. These changes were classified as positive or negative according to their effect on hemadsorption activity. We observed following results. (i) The percentage of surviving amino acid changes on the HA1 domain that did not abrogate hemadsorption activity was calculated to be ca. 44%. In nature, it is estimated to be ca. 39.6%. This difference in surviving amino acid changes on the HA protein between natural isolates and in vitro mutants might be due to the immune pressure against the former. (ii) A total of 26 amino acid changes in the in vitro mutants matched those at which mainstream amino acid changes had occurred in the H3HA1 polypeptide from 1968 to 2000. Of these, 25 were positive. We suggest that the majority of amino acid changes on the HA protein during evolution might be restricted to those that were positive on the HA of A/Aichi/2/68. (iii) We constructed two-point amino acid changes on the HA protein by using positive mutants. These two-point amino acid changes with a random combination did not inhibit hemadsorption activity. It is possible that an accumulation of amino acid change might occur without order. (iv) From the analysis of amino acids participating in mainstream amino acid change, each antigenic site could be further divided into smaller sites. The amino acid substitutions in the gaps between these smaller sites resulted in mostly hemadsorption-negative changes. These gap positions may play an important role in maintaining the function of the HA protein, and therefore amino acid changes are restricted at these locations.  相似文献

Ontogenetic changes of normal diploid cells and cells with genetic mutations (LHC-484 from a patient with xeroderma pigmentosum) have been studied under prolonged cultivation in a stationary phase. While investigating the dynamics of complex changes in certain cell properties and cell populations it was found that the cultivated human cells possess a particular pattern of ontogenetic changes for every culture and the dynamics of these changes depends upon the density of the cell population. Load-bearing cartilages regularly experience changes in fluid content as the result of changing load. It has been found that these changes in fluid content influence proteoglycan synthesis. The mechanism for this effect is not known. We have measured the influence of changes in cartilage hydration on the [35S]sulphate incorporation rate in both bovine nasal and human articular cartilage in medium whose concentration varied over the range 0.2-2-times physiological strength. In physiological medium the incorporation rate fell in proportion to fluid loss with a 10% fall in cartilage hydration resulting in a 30-50% decrease in 35S-incorporation rates. However, in medium of 0.5-times physiological strength, where the incorporation rate was only 40% of control values, the incorporation rate increased initially rather than falling as the cartilage lost fluid. These changes in hydration and hence proteoglycan content resulted in changes in the extracellular ionic composition of cartilage. When this was monitored in terms of [Na+]c, the internal sodium concentration, as a marker for changes in cartilage ionic composition, we found that incorporation rate varied with [Na+]c rather than directly with hydration.  相似文献

Gamma irradiation of DNA solutions containing copper causes changes in DNA conformation in oligonucleotides and in natural and synthetic DNAs. Diagnostic for these conformational changes is a ubiquitous 187-nm peak in the circular dichroism (CD) difference spectrum that has been predicted for a transformation from a right-handed to a left-handed helical DNA conformation. Changes in CD are correlated with changes in the UV spectrum. Reduction of DNA-bound Cu(II) to Cu(I) with ascorbic acid produces similar changes in CD spectra. These changes can be produced by the peroxy radical anion (O2*-) and the OH radical in the presence of copper. O2*- is approximately twice as efficient as *OH in initiating these changes in natural DNA. The changes in DNA conformation induced by ionizing radiation are remarkable in that they are dependent on the copper-ion concentration in a highly nonlinear manner at low copper concentrations and are not observed in the absence of copper ions. Possible implications of our results for radiobiological and oxidative damage in the cell nucleus are discussed.  相似文献

We have used spin-labels to detect prostaglandin E induced changes in erythrocyte membranes. The observed changes in spin-label resonance spectra can be mimicked in erythrocyte ghosts by loading them with cAMP or cGMP. These changes can also be observed by adding either of these cyclic nucleotides to intact cells. This entry of cyclic nucleotides into intact cells is blocked by an inhibitor of the anion channel. We suggest that the observed changes in paramagnetic resonance spectra are due to changes in lipid "fluidity" that are brought about by changes in the biochemical state of membrane-associated proteins (such as spectrin) and in the direct or indirect biophysical interactions of these proteins with membrane lipids.  相似文献

This paper reports the relationships among changes in cardiovagal activity, surface EMG, and measures of pulmonary function in a study of relaxation therapy for asthma. Changes in FEV 1 /FVC were negatively correlated with those in cardiac interbeat interval, consistent with the hypothesis that relaxation-induced changes in airway function are mediated autonomically, with increased vagal tone and/or decreased sympathetic arousal producing bronchoconstriction. Contrary to Kotses's theory of a vagal-trigeminal reflex as mediator for relaxation-induced improvement in asthma, decreases in pulmonary function occurred during relaxation sessions, accompanied by increases in cardiovagal activity, and within-session changes in frontal EMG in the first session of training were positively associated with changes in a measure of pulmonary function (FEV1/FVC). However, consistent with this hypothesis, first-session frontalis EMG changes were positively associated with changes in respiratory sinus arrhythmia, and last-session changes in cardiac interbeat interval were positively associated with changes in FEV1/FVC. The results suggest that the immediate effects of generalized relaxation instruction can be associated with a parasympathetic rebound, which, in turn, may induce countertherapeutic changes in asthma. However, the effects of specific facial muscle relaxation remain uncelar.  相似文献

The dynamics of structural changes in the liver in experimental dyslipoproteinemia (DLP) and its correction was studied. Vessel-tissue changes found in the liver of rabbits in a short-term and stable DLP (4, 8 weeks) can be estimated as different stages of chronic active hepatitis. The microcirculation disorders and structural changes in the liver appeared at the early stages of DLP in the absence of atheromatosis in large arteries. The pathological changes in the liver existed 36 weeks after the rejection of atherogenic diet and correlated with DLP. Thus, DLP can be the risk factor as cardiovascular diseases as chronic nonspecific changes in the target organs.  相似文献
