ABSTRACT. The marine oligotrichous ciliate Spirotontonia taiwanica n. sp. isolated from the coastal waters of northeastern Taiwan is reported, using live observation, protargol preparations and molecular data. The new species differs from the most similar, known congener Spirotontonia turbinata in the following features: (1) lower number of buccal membranelles (11–13 vs. 13–17); (2) higher number of whorls of girdle kinety (2.5 vs. 1.5); (3) lower number of macronuclear nodules (20–31 vs. 28–40); (4) larger cell size (80–104 × 40–72 vs. 44–75 × 29–56 μm); (5) larger anterior cell end to buccal vertex (50 vs. 33 μm); (6) larger ratio of cell length to cell width (1.74 vs. 1.38); (7) the different beginning of the girdle kinety (posterior to the buccal vertex vs. left of the buccal zone portion); and (8) the disappearance of the L‐shaped argyrophilic structures in the last half whorl and occasionally the first 1–10 dikinetids (i.e. yes vs. no). The molecular data also reveal two distinct species, deviating by 2% or 33% base pairs.  相似文献

Uronychia clapsae sp. n. was discovered in an artificial channel that drains an endorheic area from the “sandy Pampa” into the upper basin of Salado River, Buenos Aires, Argentina. This euplotid measures 56–112 μm × 42–70 μm in vivo, is oval in shape and the buccal field is enormous, occupying ca. 80% of body length. It is characterized by having two macronuclear nodules and one micronucleus; usually 10 anterior and invariably three posterior membranelles; right end of paroral hook-like; buccal cirrus base about 3.5–6.0 μm long; invariably four frontal, two ventral, three left marginal, four transverse, and three caudal cirri; six dorsal kineties, kinety 1 with 15–22 dikinetids. Most Uronychia species were recorded in marine habitats, while this new isolate was found in a slightly saline, inland water body. Taxonomic and nomenclatorial concerns on some species assigned to Uronychia are also discussed.  相似文献

This study introduces a novel DNA sampling method in amphibians using skin swabs. We assessed the relevancy of skin swabs relevancy for genetic studies by amplifying a set of 17 microsatellite markers in the alpine newt Ichthyosaura alpestris, including 14 new polymorphic loci, and a set of 11 microsatellite markers in Hyla arborea, from DNA collected with buccal swabs (the standard swab method), dorsal skin swabs and ventral skin swabs. We tested for quality and quantity of collected DNA with each method by comparing electrophoresis migration patterns. The consistency between genotypes obtained from skin swabs and buccal swabs was assessed. Dorsal swabs performed better than ventral swabs in both species, possibly due to differences in skin structure. Skin swabbing proved to be a useful alternative to buccal swabbing for small or vulnerable animals: by drastically limiting handling, this method may improve the trade-off between the scientific value of collected data, individual welfare and species conservation. In addition, the 14 new polymorphic microsatellites for the alpine newt will increase the power of genetic studies in this species. In four populations from France (n=19-25), the number of alleles per locus varied from 2 to 16 and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.04 to 0.91. Presence of null alleles was detected in two markers and two pairs displayed gametic disequilibrium. No locus appeared to be sex-linked.  相似文献

A total of eleven species of tardigrades from Taiwan are reported in this article. They belong to two classes, three orders, four families, and ten genera. Ten species are new records for Taiwan and one is new to science. Doryphoribius taiwanus sp. nov. is similar to Dor. mariae , but differs from it by larger body size, by conspicuous tubercles on the lateral side and dorsal sides of the body, by lacking gibbosities and undulations, by a narrower buccal tube, and by longer claws.  相似文献

Two new species of coelomic filarioid belonging to Litomosoides are described from sigmodontine murids from the Rio de La Plata marshland, Argentina. Litomosoides bonaerensis n. sp., a parasite of Oligoryzomys delticola, belongs to the carinii group and is close to L. silvai, which differs by the head and tail papillae, buccal capsule and cavity, area rugosa, and morphology of the microfilaria. Litomosoides oxymycteri n. sp., from Oxymycterus rufus, belongs to the sigmodontis group. Differential diagnosis is based on the morphology of the buccal capsule, the head and tail papillae, and microfilaria. The ectoparasitic gamasid Ornithonyssus bacoti, in which several Litomosoides species develop, has been recovered from sigmodontines trapped in the study.  相似文献

An oligohalobic peritrichous ciliate, Epistylis chlorelligerum Shen, 1980, was collected from a ditch in Hangzhou, China. The morphology, oral infraciliature, and morphogenesis of the species were studied using living and protargol-impregnated specimens. Zooids of E. chlorelligerum are 160-230 × 50-60 μm in vivo, and characterized by green-colored endoplasm containing symbiotic algae. The oral infraciliature presents a well-developed filamentous reticulum linked to the circular fiber of the cytostome; the outer two rows of P3 extend adstomally over P1 and usually enfold it. During binary fission, one daughter cell inherits most part of the old buccal apparatus and the reorganized haplokinety and germinal kinety (Hk' and G'), and new buccal apparatus of the other daughter cell is mostly developed from the original germinal kinety (G) and haplokinety (Hk): new peniculi 2, 3 (2P2, 2P3), new haplokinety (2Hk), and new germinal kinety (2G) are formed from G, while the new peniculus 1 (2P1) and its peristomial extention (2Pk) originate from Hk. The epistomial membrane can be observed until the two sets of buccal apparatus begin to separate from each other.  相似文献

The drilling mode of feeding is known from two clades of Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda and Heterobranchia. However, the level of convergence and parallelism or homology among these two lineages is unclear. The morphology of the buccal complex is well studied for drilling caenogastropods, but poorly known for drilling nudibranchs. It is also unclear whether the drilling feeding mechanism is similar between inside gastropods. Accordingly, a comparison between the feeding mechanisms of drilling nudibranchs and caenogastropods can help to understand the evolutional trends inside gastropods. In this study, we redescribe the morphology of the buccal complex of drilling dorid nudibranch Vayssierea cf. elegans, and compare it to that of previous investigations on this species and closely related dorid species. We describe the feeding mechanism of this species based on the obtained morphological and literature data and compare it to the feeding mechanisms described for drilling caenogastropods. The feeding apparatus of Vayssierea cf. elegans corresponds to the general morphology of the dorid buccal complex; that is, it has a similar arrangement of the buccal musculature and pattern of radular morphology. However, there are also adaptations to the drilling feeding mode similar to those found in Caenogastropoda: that is, specialized dissolving glands and lateral teeth with elongated pointed cusps; and even Sacoglossa: the specialized muscle for sucking. The feeding process of Vayssierea cf. elegans includes the same two stages as those described for drilling caenogastropods: (a) the boring stage, which is provided by mechanical and chemical activity, and (b) the swallowing stage.  相似文献

Cylicocyclus asini n. sp. is described from the ventral colons of seven domesticated donkeys Equus asinus in South Africa. The specimens are smaller than 11 members of the genus Cylicocyclus, which currently comprises 10 recognised species, one recognised subspecies and two species inquirendae, but is similar in size to the two smaller species, C. ashworthi and C. leptostomum. Additionally, the small size of its buccal capsule places it within the so-called small buccal capsule group, namely C. ashworthi, C. leptostomum, C. nassatus, C. radiatus and C. triramosus. The shape of the oesophagus at the oesophago-intestinal junction is elongate, similar to that of C. leptostomum. The female specimens have a tail length shorter than the vulva to anus distance, similar to three of the smaller Cylicocyclus species, namely C. leptostomum, C. radiatus and C. triramosus. The new species is distinguished from the smaller members of the genus by the presence of a `club-foot' posterior in the female specimens, 40–46 elements in the external leaf-crown and a deep division of the dorsal ray which extends beyond the origin of the externodorsal ray. Similarly, the new species can be separated from the two other members in the genus with a `club-foot' posterior in the females (C. auriculatus and C. gyalocephaloides) by its body length (6.6–8.47 mm) and the presence of a nipple-like dorsal gutter.  相似文献

Two species of nematodes, Angiostoma coloaense n. sp. and Aulacnema monodelphis n. g., n. sp. (Angiostomatidae: Rhabditida) are described from terrestrial molluscs of Vietnam. Both species are characterised by a long bowl-shaped buccal cavity and typically angiostomatid male bursal alae, spicules and gubernaculum. The new genus, Aulacnema n. g., is erected for the first reported monodelphic angiostomatid. Angiostoma coloaense n. sp. can be distinguished from other species of Angiostoma Dujardin, 1845 by having a buccal cavity length greater than its width and the absence of tail spikes on both males and females.  相似文献

Summary A new species of spiruroid nematode,Gongylonema aegypti, is described from two rodents,Mus musculus andGerbillus gerbillus, from Egypt.G. aegypti is distinguished from closely related species by the size of the spicules and gubernaculum, the absence of cuticular bosses in males, and the size of the egg. SEM studies suggest that the generic diagnosis ofGongylonema should be amended to include the presence of a dorsal pore on the cephalic plate and the presence around the buccal cavity of three triangular teeth (not lips) and two sclerotized plates or interlabia. ac]19850414  相似文献

Tardigrade feeding apparatus is a complex structure with considerable taxonomic significance that can be schematically divided into four parts: buccal ring, buccal tube, stylet system, and pharynx. We analyzed the fine morphology and the tridimensional organization of the tardigrade buccal?Cpharyngeal apparatus in order to clarify the relationships between form and function and to identify new characters for systematic and phylogenetic studies. We conducted a comparative analysis of the cuticular structures of the buccal?Cpharyngeal apparatuses of twelve eutardigrade species, integrating data obtained by SEM and LM observations. Morphological diversity was observed and new cuticular structures such as the stylet coat of the stylet system were identified. The synthesis of the buccal?Cpharyngeal apparatus during molting was also analyzed obtaining a clear developmental sequence of its resynthesis. These findings lead us to redefine the previous interpretations of the functioning mechanisms of the buccal?Cpharyngeal apparatus and provide a more specific relationship between tardigrade diet and the anatomy of their feeding apparatuses. In addition, the detection by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy of calcium in the stylets, buccal tube, and placoids of eutardigrade species (i.e., Milnesium tardigradum, Paramacrobiotus richtersi) indicates that CaCO3 incrustations are not an exclusive feature of heterotardigrades and lead to suppose that this trait was present in the ancestors of both classes.  相似文献

Leptoamphisiella vermisGruber, 1888 n. g., n. comb. (basionym Epiclintes vermisGruber, 1888) is an extraordinarily large and worm-like marine stichotrichous ciliate. Based on a population isolated recently from coastal waters of Qingdao, China, the living morphology and infraciliature are redescribed and its taxonomic position is defined. Accordingly, a new diagnosis for this species is suggested: large, marine Leptoamphisiella with a conspicuous layer of pellicular alveoli; 400-1000 microm x 40-70 microm in vivo; body band-like, highly flexible; about 40 membranelles; always three frontal and two buccal cirri; 52-80 transverse cirri (TC) extending to the posterior end of the buccal field; 57-79 left midventral and 44-62 right midventral cirri; 62-102 cirri in left and 63-91 cirri in right marginal rows (MR); 9-13 dorsal kineties that extend the full body length; about 100 macronuclear nodules and 5-13 micronuclei. The diagnosis for the new genus is as follows: vermiform Pseudoamphisiellidae with strongly contractile body, differentiated frontal, buccal, and highly developed TC; two remarkably separated midventral rows; one MR on each side of the body; frontoterminal and caudal cirri absent. Leptoamphisiella vermis n. comb. is fixed as the type species of the new genus.  相似文献

Dictyocaulus capreolus n. sp. recovered from roe deer, Capreolus capreolus and moose, Alces alces in Sweden is described and figured. Morphological studies revealed the new species to be closest to D. eckerti and D. africanus on the basis of mouth shape, all three species having an elongate mouth opening. The other species of the genus, including D. viviparus, all have a circular to oval mouth opening. Dictyocaulus capreolus n. sp. can be distinguished from D. eckerti and D. africanus on the basis of the morphology of the buccal capsule and the bursa. These morphological studies support earlier evidence of the presence of a new species of Dictyocaulus in roe deer and moose that could be distinguished from D. eckerti and D. viviparus using either a PCR-linked hybridization assay or image analysis software to study the dimensions of the buccal capsule.  相似文献

The genus Rostanga Bergh, 1879 is reviewed and ten species, seven of them new, are recognized from the Indo-West Pacific. They are compared with the three species of the genus known from elsewhere in the world. Most species are red or orange-red and the mantle is characterized by a dense covering of spiculate caryophyllidia. Species are characterized on aspects of the buccal armature, rhinophore club, egg-ring, developmental biology and food preferences. Each species has a specialized diet, most species restricted to one or a few sponges of the family Microcionidae.  相似文献

Kurilonema browni n. sp. is described on the basis of specimens found in the lungs of the scincid lizard Sphenomorphus abdictus aquilonius from Aurora Province, Luzon Island, Philippines. The new species differs from Kurilonema markovi, the only previously known species in the genus, by the presence of 2 prominent lateral pseudolabia, larger body size, shorter tail length relative to total body length, and more numerous eggs in the uteri, containing fully developed larvae. The inner surface of the buccal capsule in the new species is densely covered with rounded scales that have not been observed in K. markovi or any other rhabdiasid species. This is the first record of the genus from the Philippines.  相似文献

Two new Rhabdias species are described from the lungs of the cane toad Bufo marinus (L.) from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Rhabdias alabialis n. sp. differs from other known species of the genus by the remarkable morphology of its head end, i.e., the absence of lips or pseudolabia, the slitlike oral opening, and the triangular shape of the buccal capsule in apical view. Rhabdias pseudosphaerocephala n. sp. is identified as a form previously known in Central and South America as Rhabdias sphaerocephala Goodey, 1924, a species initially described from toads in Europe. The new species is differentiated from R. sphaerocephala based on head-end morphology and sequences of nuclear rDNA.  相似文献
