The reproductive development of the Christmas rose (Helleborus niger L.) is characterized by an uncommon feature in the world of flowering plants: after fertilization the white perianth becomes green and photosynthetically active and persists during fruit development. In the flowers in which fertilization was prevented by emasculation (unfertilized) or entire reproductive organs were removed (depistillated), the elongation of the peduncle was reduced by 20?C30%, and vascular development, particularly lignin deposition in sclerenchyma, was arrested. Chlorophyll accumulation in sepals and their photosynthetic efficacy were up to 80% lower in comparison to fertilized flowers. Endogenous auxins were investigated in floral and fruit tissues and their potential roles in these processes are discussed. Analytical data of free indole-3-acetic acid, indole-3-ethanol (IEt), and seven amino acid conjugates were afforded by LC-MS/MS in floral tissues of fertilized as well as unfertilized and depistillated flowers. Among amino acid conjugates, novel ones with Val, Gly, and Phe were identified and quantified in the anthers, and in the fruit during development. Reproductive organs before fertilization followed by developing fruit at post-anthesis were the main source of auxin. Tissues of unfertilized and depistillated flowers accumulated significantly lower levels of auxin. Upon depistillation, auxin content in the peduncle and sepal was decreased to 4 and 45%, respectively, in comparison to fruit-bearing flowers. This study suggests that auxin arising in developing fruit may participate, in part, in the coordination of the Christmas rose peduncle elongation and its vascular development.  相似文献

The changes in the contents of free and bound gibberellin-like activity (GA) of Tulipa gesneriana L. cv. Ralph during development under 2 temperature conditions were studied. The results show that the content of free GA of bulbs grown at 18° increased by 67% over the initial level during development. The bound GA showed a slight initial increase and was followed by a rapid decrease. In contrast, bulbs treated at 13° showed a marked decline in free GA and a 2-fold increase in the content of bound GA. However, after the transfer of these bulbs from 13° to 18° the free GA increased to the initial level while the bound GA decreased to a low level.  相似文献

The amount of endogenous growth substances in stem, flowers and leaves of rose plants grown under different temperature and light conditions has been determined. It appeared to be two main growth promoting factors in the acidic fraction of the ether extract. One of them is assumed to be an auxin, probably indol-3yl-acetic acid (IAA); the other is not identified. The level of auxin was much higher in extracts from shoots grown at high temperature than in shoots grown at low temperature. Increasing light intensity also seemed to increase the auxin content of the shoots. Shoots which developed after a high cut back of the rose stem had a higher auxin content than shoots which developed after a low cut back. These findings are discussed in relation to the effect of temperature, light intensity and cut back practise on blind shoot formation in roses. The result of these investigations strongly indicate that abortion in roses is promoted by a low auxin level in the shoots.  相似文献

Reproductive development in the Christmas rose (Helleborus niger L.) differs from that in commonly investigated model plants in two important aspects: (i) the perianth develops a photosynthetic system, after fertilization, and persists until seed ripening; and (ii) the ripe seed contains an immature embryo which continues to mature off the mother plant. The possible roles of cytokinins in these processes are investigated here by analysing extracts of the perianth and the carpels/maturing fruit prepared during anthesis and four stages of post-floral development. trans-Zeatin, dihydrozeatin, N6-(Delta2-isopentenyl)adenine, and their ribosides were identified by tandem mass spectrometry. Single ion monitoring in the presence of deuterated internal standards demonstrated the additional presence of the corresponding riboside-5'-monophosphates, O-glucosides, and 9-glucosides, and afforded quantitative data on the whole set of endogenous cytokinins. Fruit cytokinins were mostly localized in the seeds. Their overall concentrations increased dramatically during early seed development and remained high for 6-8 weeks, until shortly before seed ripening (the last time point covered in this work). Overall cytokinin levels in the perianth did not change markedly in the period covered, but the level of N6-(Delta2-isopentenyl)adenine-type cytokinins appeared to increase slightly and transiently during the greening phase. The perianths of unpollinated or depistillated flowers, which survived, but did not pass through the complete greening process, contained significantly less cytokinins than observed in fruit-bearing flowers. This suggests that perianth greening requires defined cytokinin levels and supports the role of the developing fruit in their maintenance.  相似文献

以"湖景蜜露"水蜜桃(Prunus persica L.)为试材,检测了果实从未成熟到成熟发育过程中乙烯生成、呼吸速率及挥发性香气性物质的变化;同时对果实大小、果皮色泽、果肉硬度、可溶性固形物、可滴定酸进行了测定;对与果实乙烯产生密切相关的1-氨基环丙烷-1-羧酸(ACC)含量、ACC合成酶活性、ACC氧化酶活性也进行了测定.结果表明,随果实成熟度的增加,果实大小、果皮L*值、可溶性固形物含量增加,而果实硬度、果皮h°值、可滴定酸含量减少.在未成熟的果实中,C6的醛类(反式-2-己烯醛)和醇类(顺式-3-己烯醇)是主要的成分;乙烯生成量很低;呼吸速率较高.到跃变阶段C6~C12的内酯类物质明显增加,尤其是γ和δ-内酯类成为果实主要的香气挥发性物质.推测果实乙烯、呼吸作用等基本的生理变化可能调节着内酯类物质的生成.在乙烯跃变上升时果肉中ACC氧化酶的活性下降,ACC含量和ACC合成酶活力的变化与乙烯生成量变化的趋势一致.根据以上结果可以认为桃果实主要的香气挥发性物质的形成与乙烯、呼吸跃变的开始密切相关.香气物质形成速率动态变化可能是桃果实发育过程中成熟度的另一个生理学指标.  相似文献

Photoperiod is a major factor in flower development of the opiumpoppy (Papaver somniferum L. ‘album DC’) which isa long-day plant. Predicting time to flower in field-grown opiumpoppy requires knowledge of which stages of growth are sensitiveto photoperiod and how the rate of flower development is influencedby photoperiod. The objective of this work was to determinewhen poppy plants first become sensitive to photoperiod andhow long photoperiod continues to influence the time to firstflower under consistent temperature conditions. Plants weregrown in artificially-lit growth chambers with either a 16-hphotoperiod (highly flower inductive) or a 9-h photoperiod (non-inductive).Plants were transferred at 1 to 3-d intervals from a 16- toa 9-h photoperiod andvice versa . All chambers were maintainedat a 12-h thermoperiod of 25/20 °C. Poppy plants becamesensitive to photoperiod 4 d after emergence and required aminimum of four inductive cycles (short dark periods) beforethe plant flowered. Additional inductive cycles, up to a maximumof nine, hastened flowering. After 13 inductive cycles, floweringtime was no longer influenced by photoperiod. These resultsindicate that the interval between emergence and first flowercan be divided into four phases: (1) a photoperiod-insensitivejuvenile phase (JP); (2) a photoperiod-sensitive inductive phase(PSP); (3) a photoperiod-sensitive post-inductive phase (PSPP);and (4) a photoperiod-insensitive post-inductive phase (PIPP).The minimum durations of these phases forPapaver somniferum‘album DC’ under the conditions of our experimentwere determined as 4 d, 4 d, 9 d, and 14 d, respectively. Dark treatment during the most active period of tulip shootgrowth induced rapid elongation of the first internode. Endogenousfree-form gibberellin and diffusible auxin in the first internodeincreased while bound-form gibberellin decreased after the darktreatment. Alternating dark and light treatments at 24-h intervalscaused increases in elongation of the first internode and theamounts of free-form gibberellin and diffusible auxin in thedark but their decreases in the light. TIBA treatment at thefirst node inhibited both the elongation and the increase indiffusible auxin, but did not affect the gibberellin amount.Ancymidol application prior to the dark treatment inhibitedthe increase in both free-form gibberellin and diffusible auxin.Application of gibberellin A3 increased both elongation of thefirst internode and the amount of diffusible auxin. It alsocaused recovery from ancymidol-mediated reduction in elongationand diffusible auxin content. Dark-induced elongation of thefirst internode was inhibited when all organs above the firstinternode were excised, but endogenous free-form gibberellinincreased and bound-form gibberellin decreased. After excision,elongation of the first internode occurred only when both GA3and IAA were applied exogenously, or when IAA was applied withdark treatment. These results indicate that dark-induced elongationof the first internode of tulip is promoted by auxin, whichis transported from the upper organs into the first internodedue to stimulation from the dark-induced increase in free-formgibberellin. Free- and bound-form gibberellins changed complementarilywith the dark and light treatments. The stipule mutant cochleata(coch) and the simple-leaf mutantunifoliata(uni) are utilized to increase understanding of the controlof compound leaf and flower development in pea. The phenotypeof the coch mutant, which affects the basal stipules of thepea leaf, is described in detail. Mutant coch flowers have supernumeraryorgans, abnormal fusing of flower parts, mosaic organs and partialmale and female sterility. The wild-type Coch gene is shownto have a role in inflorescence development, floral organ identityand in the positioning of leaf parts. Changes in meristem sizemay be related to changes in leaf morphology. In the coch mutant,stipule primordia are small and their development is retardedin comparison with that of the first leaflet primordia. Thediameter of the shoot apical meristem of the uni mutant is approx.25% less than that of its wild-type siblings. This is the firsttime that a significant difference in apical meristem size hasbeen observed in a pea leaf mutant. Genetic controls in thebasal part of the leaf are illustrated by interactions betweencoch and other mutants. The mutantcoch gene is shown to changestipules into a more ‘compound leaf-like’ identitywhich is not affected by thestipules reduced mutation. The interactionof coch and tendril-less(tl) genes reveals that the expressionof the wild-type Tl gene is reduced at the base of the leaf,supporting the theories of gradients of gene action. Quantitative changes in the carbohydrates, soluble nitrogenouscompounds, and specific proteins of seeds and pods of fieldpea have been followed during two seasons and related to theoverall pattern of growth of the embryo and other parts of thefruit. Reserves of solutes are established in the pod and inthe seed coat and endosperm of the seed some time before theembryo commences its exponential phase of growth. Later, thesereserves disappear and it is estimated that their mobilizationmight provide, at the most, only one-fifth of the embryo's requirementsfor carbon and nitrogen. Starch and certain albumin-type proteins accumulate relativelyearly in the life of the embryo. Globulin-type proteins, bycontrast, are laid down only after the cotyledons are almostfull size and after most of the reserve of starch has been accumulated.The content of hemicellulose, the principal carbohydrate ofthe embryo, increases steadily as the embryo grows. Neitherhemicellulose nor globulin is found in appreciable amounts inorgans other than the cotyledons. Each organ of the fruit has its own highly characteristic poolof free amino acids. Orderly and reproducible changes occurin the composition of these pools during fruit development,suggesting that variations in the amounts of specific compoundsmay have special significance in the programme of developmentand synthesis in the fruit.  相似文献

A common modern cultivation practice is bagging the fruit bunch if date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) which may influence fruit maturity and nutraceutical quality. Exposure of fruits to photooxidative stress induces changes in the endogenous concentrations of plant hormones and other metabolites, which may cause accelerated fruit maturity. This study was conducted to examine the effect of exposure to direct and indirect sunlight on date palm fruit development. The indirect sunlight treatment was simulated by fruit bunch bagging, a common practice in modern date production. The exposure of date palm fruits to direct sunlight-induced photooxidative stress causing an increased concentration of ascorbic acid and decreased content of chlorophyll, anthocyanins, carotenoids, and phenols compared to the fruit bagging treatment. Direct sunlight also reduced the concentration of phytohormones, including indoleacetic acid, gibberellin, and zeatin, but increased abscisic acid accumulation. The directly-exposed fruits reached a partially-mature stage (Rutab) in August, whereas the bagged fruits remained at the immature stage (Khalal). This study is the first to describe the biochemical basis of the observed improvement of date palm fruit development in response to reduced light intensity. Besides, it provides insights into controlling date palm fruit maturity and subsequently prolonging the shelf life dates on the tree; thus, extending the marketing period for the benefit of the farmers.

The ontogeny of the peach seed and its organs correlates wellwith the stages of growth of the pericarp of peach fruit. Theinitial stages of rapid f.wt (FW I) and d.wt (DW I) increasecoincide with the period of rapid f.wt increase of the wholeseed and rapid size increase of the endosperm respectively.The period of slow f.wt increase of the fruit (FW II) coincideswith the period of rapid size increase of the embryo. The seed and pericarp compete strongly for assimilates throughoutfruit development and the seed is the weaker competitor. Thereis no period however when the growth of the seed or one of itsorgans inhibits the sink strength of the pericarp to allow theseed to develop. The data presented indicate that the periodsof high nutrient demand (DW I and DW III) are created in thepericarp in response to a stimulatory signal from the seed andthe period of low nutrient demand (DW II) results from the absenceof this signal after the endosperm reaches full size.  相似文献

利用热偶湿度计(thermocouplepsychrometer)研究了野生型、GA-缺陷型和ABA-缺陷型番茄发育过程中果实种子的水分关系,发现除ABA-缺陷型种子胶囊和果肉水势变化特殊外,3种类型果实水分状况变化基本一致;在整个发育时期内.前期种子胶囊和果肉水分流向种子,中期种子水分流向种子胶囊和果肉,后期种子和果实间的水势达到平衡。鉴于种胚脱水是一种主动过程,种胚水势一直低于整个种子、种子胶囊和果肉。内源赤霉素可明显增加果实和种子的重量,但对增加种胚溶质的作用不大。由于内源脱落酸可以促使果实成熟和衰老,促进果实细胞解体,大大降低种子胶囊和果肉水势,因而抑制成熟种子在果实内萌发。  相似文献
