A comparative study of the functional response ofColeomegilla maculataDeGeer (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) fourth instars was conducted under laboratory, greenhouse, and field conditions. In the laboratory, individual larvae were placed in 9-cm petri dishes for 24 h, with 1, 3, 5, or 7 Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata[Say]) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) egg masses. Each egg mass was standardized at 15 eggs. In the greenhouse and field,C. maculatalarvae were provided with an equivalent of 0.5 to 35L. decemlineataegg masses/m2of potato leaf. Fourth instars ofC. maculataexhibited a type II functional response toL. decemlineataeggs under laboratory, greenhouse, and field conditions. Predator search efficiency was inversely related with prey density. The maximum mean attack rate (8.7 eggs) byC. maculatalarvae in the field was about half the mean attack rate in the laboratory (17.6 eggs) and greenhouse (20.1 eggs). The difference in prey density between the laboratory and field seems to have been a major contributing factor in determining the rate of predation, whereas differences in environmental conditions (e.g., temperature and possible alternate food) may explain the differences observed in the predation rate in the greenhouse and field.  相似文献

Stage specific functional response of Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) to varying densities of Aphis gossypii Glover was examined in a simplified cucumber leaf arena under laboratory conditions. All stages of H. axyridis were isolated individually for 24 h with different prey densities at 25 °C and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h. The number of prey consumed by the predator was checked at 3, 6, 12, and 24 h. All stages of H. axyridis showed a Type II functional response. Based on the random predator equation, estimated attack rates of H. axyridis at 24 h were 0.0037, 0.0442, 0.3590, 0.3228, and 0.1456, and estimated handling times were 4.1001, 2.4575, 0.7500, 0.2132, and 0.1708 h for the first, second, third, and fourth instars, and female adult, respectively.  相似文献

Nephaspis oculatus (Blatchley) is a predator of whiteflies including Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) and B. argentifolii Bellows and Perring. The usefulness of this and other coccinellid predators of whiteflies could be improved by better information on responses to different temperatures experienced in the field. We reared N. oculatus from egg to adult in incubators at six constant temperatures and observed a linear relationship between developmental time and temperature for all preimaginal lifestages through all but the highest temperatures (33°C). Four larval instars were observed, although a significant proportion of third instar larvae molted directly to the pupal stage at 29°C and above. Complete life table data were obtained at all temperatures except 33°C. Survivorship was greatest over all immature stages at 26°C and finite and intrinsic rates of increase were highest at this temperature. Although 26°C appeared to be the optimum temperature for population growth, estimated rates of increase at all temperatures tested above 20°C were within 75% of the maximum, indicating that the beetle can perform well within the temperature range usually found in greenhouses.  相似文献

The suitability of Aphis fabae Scopoli, Myzus persicae Sulzer and Aleyrodes proletella L. as food sources for Coccinella undecimpunctata L. was evaluated by studying the impact of prey consumption on the predator’s population growth parameters and feeding parameters. Unlike A. proletella, A. fabae and M. persicae supported the development and reproduction of C. undecimpunctata. A. fabae and M. persicae were considered to be essential prey, whereas A. proletella was considered to be an alternative prey. Aphid species showed different degrees of suitability: M. persicae significantly decreased the pre-oviposition period and increased adult longevity, fecundity and fertility compared with A. fabae. Moreover, A. fabae represents a suitable diet for larval development, but is not a suitable food source for adult reproduction. The predator’s population growth parameters, R0, rm and λ were increased with M. persicae, whereas T decreased. We found that the 4th instar larvae were the most voracious, particularly when fed on M. persicae; nevertheless, with this prey daily weight gain and feeding efficiency of 4th instar larvae were similar to that of individuals fed with A. fabae.  相似文献

The soybean aphid, Aphis glycines Matsumura, has become a principal arthropod pest of soybean in the U.S. since its first detection in 2000. This species threatens soybean production through direct feeding damage and virus transmission. A diverse guild of insect predators feeds on soybean aphid in Michigan including the exotic coccinellid Harmonia axyridis, the native gall midge Aphidoletes aphidimyza and the native lacewing Chrysoperla carnea. In addition to feeding on A. glycines some members of this guild may also engage in intraguild predation. These interactions may produce positive, negative, or neutral impacts on A. glycines biological control. We explored the impact of intraguild predation on soybean aphid population dynamics by comparing aphid populations in microcosms with either A. aphidimyza larvae or C. carnea larvae alone, with both a H. axyridis adult and either A. aphidimyza or C. carnea larvae, and without predators. When H. axyridis was present with larval A. aphidimyza or C. carnea, the lady beetle acted as an intraguild predator. However, intraguild feeding did not result in a release of aphid populations compared with microcosms containing only the intraguild and aphid prey. A similar result was found in field cages. Cages allowing large predators had reduced numbers of A. aphidimyza and C. carnea larvae but also significantly fewer aphids compared with predator exclusion cages. Thus, in both lab and field studies the direct impact of H. axyridis on A. glycines overcame its negative impact as an intraguild predator. Together, these studies indicate that while the exotic H. axyridis does act as an intraguild predator and may contribute to local declines in A. aphidimyza and C. carnea, it is also currently important in overall biological control of A. glycines.  相似文献

The effect of four constant temperatures on the life history of Cirrospilus sp. near lyncus was examined in the laboratory. This species is one of the most abundant generalist indigenous parasitoids of the citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton, in Spain. Adult lifespan of C. sp. near lyncus decreased from 50.2 to 9.1 days as temperatures increased from 15 to 30°C, respectively. Both gross fecundity and host-feeding were highest at 20°C (170.48 eggs and 32.33 hosts). Oviposition rates were optimal at higher temperatures (5.22 eggs per day at 25°C and 4.79 eggs per day at 30°C) and were dependent on female age. In contrast, host-feeding rates for a given temperature did not depend on age. Generation time decreased with increasing temperatures from 68.05 days at 15°C to 12.19 days at 30°C. Net reproduction peaked at 20°C (68.86 viable females per female). Intrinsic rate of increase doubled from 15°C (0.059 females per female per day) to 20°C (0.127 females per female per day) and almost doubled again from 20 to 30°C (0.210 females per female per day). Given these parameters, C. sp. near lyncus could perform optimally in the area occupied by P. citrella in the Mediterranean region.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments compared the nutritive value of various pollen sources for the development of Coleomegilla maculata DeGeer under conditions of continuous water availability and simulated drought. When water was continuously available, larval survival was not different from 100% on diets of frozen eggs of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller, corn pollen, sorghum pollen, or pulverized bee pollen, whereas survival of larvae was significantly reduced on the latter three diets in the simulated drought treatment. Pollen of cultivated sunflower, Helianthus annus L., proved fatal to both larvae and adults; its surface structure caused clumping and accumulation on the insect cuticle that led to death from exhaustion/desiccation in petri dishes. The Ephestia egg diet yielded shorter developmental times and heavier adult weights than any pollen diet in both treatments. The drought treatment increased developmental time on all diets with a significant treatment–diet interaction. Drought reduced the adult weight of females on the sorghum pollen diet, and that of both sexes on the bee pollen diet, again with a significant treatment–diet interaction. Initial water content was highest in corn pollen (36.8%), followed by Ephestia eggs (29.2%), sorghum pollen (25.3%), sunflower pollen (8.7%), and bee pollen (4.6%), but did not appear correlated with C. maculata larval survival on pollen sources under drought conditions. Reproductive adult females that received corn or sorghum pollen as a supplement to Ephestia eggs did not differ in fecundity or fertility from those fed only Ephestia eggs.  相似文献

Seven species of Coccinellidae inhabiting citrus groves in Florida were evaluated for ability to develop and reproduce on the citrus aphids Toxoptera citricida (Kirkaldy) and Aphis spiraecola Patch. Choice tests performed with adults and larvae indicated that both aphid species were generally acceptable prey. Coccinella septempunctata L., Coleomegilla maculata fuscilabris (Mulsant), Coelophora inaequalis F., and Olla v-nigrum Mulsant were unable to complete development on either aphid. Hippodamia convergens Guerin larvae completed development on A. spiraecola with 68% survival; none survived on T. citricida. Only Cycloneda sanguinea (L.) and Harmonia axyridis Pallas completed development on both A. spiraecola (60 and 70% survival, respectively) and T. citricida (100 and 95% survival, respectively). Larval developmental time was shorter on T. citricida than on A. spiraecola, and resulting adults were heavier, differences being more pronounced in H. axyridis. Females of C. septempunctata, C. inaequalis, and O. v-nigrum produced viable eggs on T. citricida. O. v-nigrum did not produce eggs on A. spiraecola. Females of C. m. fuscilabris and H. axyridis produced no eggs on A. spiraecola and mostly infertile eggs on T. citricida. Female H. convergens laid twice as many eggs feeding on T. citricida as on A. spiraecola and egg viability was similar. C. sanguinea females laid similar numbers of eggs on both aphids, but eggs produced on A. spiraecola had higher fertility. Pollen added to the T. citricida diet temporarily improved the fertility of H. axyridis females, but not that of C. sanguinea females. C. sanguinea was judged the best candidate for augmentative biocontrol of T. citricida, the primary vector of citrus tristeza virus.  相似文献

Axinoscymnus cardilobus (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) is an important predator of Bemisia tabaci (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) that occurs in high population density of B. tabaci. Temperature among other factors is observed to play an important role in the development of arthropods. The effect of temperature on the development of A. cardilobus was studied at seven constant temperature regimes (14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32 °C). The results indicated that the duration of egg, larval and pupal stages were significantly influenced by increased temperature. The rate of development gradually increased with increase in temperature from 14 °C to 26 °C, but declined from 26 °C to 32 °C. The survival rates of different insect stages were stable at temperatures between 20 °C and 26 °C, but at extreme temperatures of 32 °C and 14 °C, a sharp decrease was evident. Ovipositional period of the female decreased when temperatures were increased from 17 °C to 32 °C. The highest fecundity of the female (225.7 eggs per female) was recorded at 23 °C. Life tables of A. cardilobus were constructed based on the experimental results at temperatures of 14–32 °C. The reproductive rate (R0), the innate capacity for increase (rm) and the finite rate of increase (λ) reached the maximum values at 23 °C, of 70.7, 0.059 and 1.062, respectively. The mean generation time (T) decreased with increased temperature from 17 °C to 32 °C, the highest and least values recorded at 17 °C and 32 °C were 112.7 and 38.7, respectively. These results offer valuable insight on the importation and establishment of A. cardilobus into new environments with diverse temperature regimes.  相似文献

[目的] 明确六斑月瓢虫雌雄成虫触角感觉器种类、分布及形态特征。[方法] 利用扫描电子显微镜对六斑月瓢虫雌、雄成虫触角形态及触角感受器超微结构进行观察。[结果] 六斑月瓢虫成虫触角由柄节、梗节和鞭节组成,柄节长度与宽度显著大于梗节长度与宽度;鞭节分为9个亚节,末端3节横向膨大呈锤状。雌雄成虫触角上共有8种感觉器:刺形感觉器(SC)、毛形感觉器(ST)、锥形感觉器(SB)、腔形感觉器(CaS)、钟形感觉器(CS)、哑铃形感觉器(DS)、香肠形感觉器(SS)及B?hm氏鬃毛感觉器(BB)。以毛形感觉器和刺形感觉器分布最广,遍布触角;B?hm氏鬃毛仅存在于触角柄节与梗节;触角鞭节第9亚节顶端密布7种触角感觉器。六斑月瓢虫雌雄成虫触角长度、触角感觉器类型及分布无显著差异。[结论] 六斑月瓢虫成虫触角上共有8种感觉器,其触角可能具有感知机械刺激、识别化学信息素及感受温湿度变化的作用。本研究为进一步了解六斑月瓢虫触角与其行为间的关系提供基础资料。  相似文献

Les jeunes stades du puceron sont consommés en nombre plus grand significativement que les derniers stades et les ♂. Les taux d'alimentation deC. vicina manifestent une corrélation hautement significative avec la densité de population de la proie. Le nombre de proies consommées quotidiennement par chaque stade considéré du prédateur augmentait plus brusquement aux faibles qu'aux fortes densités de proies, manifestant ainsi chez le prédateur le type 2 de réponse fonctionnelle.

Laboratory cages were used to evaluate the influence of extraguild (EGprey) and intraguild prey (IGprey) densities on the direction, symmetry and magnitude of the intraguild predation (IGP) of the aphidophagous Harmonia axyridis Pallas on Coccinella undecimpunctata L. and vice versa. In order to understand the role of competition between IGprey, the experiments included treatments with one IGpredator, with one or four IGprey and EGprey (Aphis fabae Scopoli) ranging from zero to sufficient aphids to satiate the predators for 12, 24 or 48 h. Increases in EGprey and IGprey densities did not alter the direction, but decreased the magnitude and symmetry of IGP. Predation on one individual of IGprey decreased from more than 80%, in the absence of EGprey, to from 6% to 53%, at higher EGprey densities. Decrease in IGP was less when H. axyridis was the IGpredator. Even at high EGprey densities, eggs and 2nd larval stages of C. undecimpunctata were vulnerable to IGP and the level of predation was 40% and 53%. The presence of more than one IGprey increased the magnitude of IGP mainly at EGprey densities sufficient to satiate the predators for 12 and 24 h, suggesting that competition between the IGpredator and IGprey may be one of the processes promoting IGP. These results and those of other authors suggest that H. axyridis has the potential to be an IGpredator, mainly of the most vulnerable stages of IGprey. Thus, H. axyridis may negatively affect the survival of C. undecimpunctata, when these two species exploit the same resources.  相似文献

【目的】周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)是寄生椰子织蛾蛹期的本土天敌。研究周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)对椰子织蛾的功能反应,能为该蜂室内扩繁和室外控害利用提供基础。【方法】在室内观察周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)寄生行为基础上,研究了营养(10%蜂蜜)、寄主蛹(初、中、晚)期对周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)寄生功能反应的影响。【结果】镜下观察1头周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)可寄生多头椰子织蛾蛹,寄生量随寄主密度的增大而增加,但当寄主密度达到一定程度后,其增长率随寄主密度的增大逐渐减缓,属于HollingⅡ功能反应。在无营养条件下,周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)对椰子织蛾初、中、晚期蛹的理论最大寄生量分别为1.5、1.4、1.2头·d~(-1);在10%蜂蜜饲喂条件下,周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)对椰子织蛾初、中、晚期蛹的理论最大寄生量分别为1.8、1.7、1.3头·d~(-1)。【结论】HollingⅡ型拟合结果表明,椰子织蛾初期蛹是周氏啮小蜂(海南种群)寄生的最佳时期,补充营养能够提高椰子织蛾的寄生力。  相似文献

Experiments were conducted in Burkina Faso to determine the effect of feeding bySmicronyxspp. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) larvae on the development of fruit capsule and seed production inStriga hermonthica(Scrophulariaceae). In treated plotsSmicronyxadults were released in the cages while in untreated plots (= control) noSmicronyxwere released. TheStrigacapsules were collected, fixed, and prepared for histological examination. UninfestedStrigacapsules developed normally. In infested capsules, three types of galls were distinguished: they reflected the development of capsule and the seeds. There was a synchrony between seed development and larval development in the same capsule. The current study examines the effect of photoperiod (16:08 or 12:12 h L:D) and diet (eggs of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Phycitidae) or the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) (Hemiptera: Aphididae)) on the development and reproduction of the multicoloured Asian lady beetle Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). A long-term laboratory population of H. axyridis (since 1998) and a melanic and non-melanic population originating from field collected individuals of H. axyridis in Belgium were used in this study. Long day conditions (16 h photoperiod) shortened development of the field populations with 2–3 days when compared with short day conditions (12 h photoperiod). Oviposition in the field populations was delayed by 1–3 months when reared at a 12 h photoperiod. Dissections indicated that the females were in reproductive diapause. As compared with live pea aphids, a diet consisting of E. kuehniella eggs yielded heavier adult body weights (up to 12%) and increased the number of egg laying days (by 45–169%) for both field populations at a 16 h photoperiod and lengthened adult life span (by 45–92%) under both light regimens. The morph types differed in their response to the foods offered in terms of developmental rate, pre-oviposition period and number of oviposition days. The laboratory and field strains responded differentially to regimens of food and photoperiod. The study indicated a greater nutritional plasticity of the non-melanic morphs which may offer them a competitive advantage that may in part explain the predominance of non-melanic morphs in newly colonized areas.  相似文献

The staphylinid beetle, Oligota pygmaea (Solier) is an important predator of the red spider mite, Oligonychus coffeae (Nietner) infesting tea. Biology, life table and predatory efficiency of O. pygmaea were studied under laboratory conditions. Duration of developmental stages of O. pygmaea was 3.2, 5.7 and 12.5 d for eggs, larvae and pupae, respectively with an average of 23.0 d from egg to adult emergence. After a mean preovipostion period of 2.9 d, each female laid an average of 400.5 eggs in its life span. Adult O. pygmaea lived for an average of 54.1 d. Adult females lived for a longer period of 58.8 d compared to the longevity of 49.4 d of adult male. Studies revealed that its life table characterized by an intrinsic rate of natural population increase (r) of 0.118 d, net reproductive rates (Ro) of 243.693 eggs/female, gross reproduction rate (Σmx) of 245.313 eggs/female, generation time (T) of 46.575 d, doubling time (DT) of 5.874 d and finite rate of increase (λ) of 1.125 d. Seasonal abundance of O. pygmaea and its prey, O. coffeae was monitored by sampling 25 tea leaves randomly from each experimental block grown under the prevailing field conditions. O. pygmaea showed a typical pattern of population dynamics with a peak during January to March and low incidence during June to September. Peak in the population of O. pygmaea coincided with the abundance of O. coffeae in the tea fields. Weather factors such as high temperature, low relative humidity and low sunshine hours adversely affected the populations of O. pygmaea. The first to third instar larvae of O. pygmaea consumed 31.0–133.2 eggs of mites per day. Third instar larva of O. pygmaea consumed an average of 133.2 eggs, 46.4 hexapod larvae, 39.6 nymphs and 11.4 adults per day. Five transgenic rice lines, each containing an insecticidal toxin gene from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) under control of a different promoter, were tested for effects on two non-target insects: the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) (Homoptera: Delphacidae), and its predator Cyrtorhinus lividipennis (Hemiptera: Miridae). Bt toxin was detected by ELISA in the honeydew of N. lugens that fed on rice lines with the CaMV 35S and actin promoters. Nilaparvata lugens produced greater volumes of acidic honeydew (derived from xylem feeding) on all five Bt rice lines than on non-transgenic control lines. The amount of honeydew derived from phloem feeding did not differ between Bt and control lines. There were no differences between N. lugens reared on Bt and control lines in any of the five fitness parameters measured (survival to the adult stage, male and female weight, and male and female developmental time). There were no differences between C. lividipennis reared on N. lugens nymphs from Bt and control lines, in any of the three fitness parameters examined (survival to the adult stage and male and female developmental time). Our results indicate that N. lugens and its natural enemies will be exposed to Bt toxins from rice lines transformed with some Bt gene constructs, but that this exposure might not affect N. lugens and C. lividipennis fitness.  相似文献

Bruchid beetle larvae cause major losses in grain legume crops throughout the world. Some bruchid species, such as the cowpea weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus) and the Mexican bean weevil (Zabrotes subfasciatus), are pests that damage stored seeds. The Mediterranean flour moth (Anagasta kuehniella) is of major economic importance as a flour and grain feeder; it is often a severe pest in flour mills. Plant lectins have been implicated as antibiosis factors against insects. Bauhinia monandra leaf lectin (BmoLL) was tested for anti-insect activity against C. maculatus, Z. subfasciatus and A. kuehniella larvae. BmoLL produced ca. 50% mortality to Z. subfaciatus and C. maculatus when incorporated into an artificial diet at a level of 0.5% and 0.3% (w/w), respectively. BmooLL up to 1% did not significantly decrease the survival of A. kuehniella larvae, but produced a decrease of 40% in weight. Affinity chromatography showed that BmoLL bound to midgut proteins of the insect C. maculatus. 33 kDa subunit BmoLL was not digested by midgut preparations of these bruchids. BmoLL-fed C. maculatus larvae increased the digestion of potato starch by 25% compared with the control. The transformation of the genes coding for this lectin could be useful in the development of insect resistance in important agricultural crops.  相似文献
