In four experiments, a total of one hundred and eighty New Zealand White rabbits were used to establish the effect of boiling and fermentation with poultry manure on the nutritive quality of sawdust for rabbit feeding, and to study the extent to which fermented sawdust can replace conventional feeds in rabbit diets.Boiling of sawdust slightly increased the crude-protein content and reduced the crude fibre, the acid-detergent fibre (ADF) and lignin concentrations. Fermentation of boiled sawdust with 10 or 15% poultry manure greatly increased the crude-protein, ash and ether-extract contents and reduced the crude fibre, acid-detergent fibre and lignin contents. Rate of gain was lowest with the untreated sawdust and highest (P < 0.05) when the sawdust was treated with poultry manure. Feed efficiency was significantly better (P < 0.05) with boiled sawdust than with untreated, and significantly better (P < 0.05) with fermented sawdust than with boiled. Hardwood sawdust responded slightly better to fermentation than softwood. Rabbits tolerated and efficiently utilized up to 25% of the fermented sawdust. Beyond this level there was a significant (P < 0.05) depression in growth and feed utilization.  相似文献

Rabbits are particularly sensitive to heat stress which can affect productive performance, with rabbit breed/line possibly playing a role on the response to this condition. The study aimed at evaluating the effect of different ambient temperatures on the live performance and carcass traits of growing rabbits divergently selected for total body fat content. The two genetic lines (Lean and Fat) were selected based on the total body fat content estimated by computer tomography during five generations. From birth to slaughter (13 weeks of age), the rabbits were housed in two rooms where the temperature was controlled with air conditioners: in the control room the average ambient temperature was 20 °C and in the high temperature room it was 28 °C. After weaning (35 d), 60 Lean and 60 Fat rabbits/room were housed by two in wire-mesh cages and fed ad libitum with commercial pellets. The BW and feed intake (FI) were measured at 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 weeks of age to calculate the daily weight gain (DWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Mortality was recorded daily. At the end of the experiment, rabbits were slaughtered and carcass traits were measured. Mortality was independent of temperature and line. The temperature significantly influenced the FI, DWG, BW and the fat deposits: they were lower at higher ambient temperature. The effect of temperature differed according to the rabbits' total body fat content. At control temperature, the FI (165 vs 155 g/day; P < 0.05) and FCR (4.67 vs 4.31; P < 0.05) were higher in Fat rabbits, which also had more perirenal (36.2 vs 23.1 g; P < 0.05) and scapular fat (10.8 vs 7.1 g; P < 0.05). At high temperature, no differences in fat depots (14.5 vs 9.8 g; 5.3 vs 3.5 g) were found between the two lines. It can be concluded that temperature × genetic line interaction had an important role in productive and carcass traits, as the effect of temperature differs between Lean and Fat rabbits.  相似文献

Six groups of six goat kids were fed individually for 168 days with wheat straw given various treatments: (1) control; (2) 33 g NaOH/kg straw; (3) 80 g NaOH/kg, partly neutralized with mineral acids; (4) mineral control for 80 g NaOH/kg; (5) 120 g NaOH/kg, partly neutralized with mineral acids, and (6) mineral control for 120 g NaOH/kg straw. The average weight gain was significantly superior (P< 0.05) and the efficiency of dry matter (DM) and energy utilization was the highest with the 80 g NaOH/kg straw treatment. This treatment also gave significantly higher (P<0.05) digestibility of DM, organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF), nitrogen-free extract (NFE) and hemicellulose than the control and 33 g NaOH/kg straw treatments. Increasing levels of alkali decreased (P<0.05) the digestibility of crude protein (CP) and ether extract (EE). Digestible energy and nitrogen-corrected metabolisable energy (MEn) (as a percentage of gross energy (GE)) were maximal with 80 g NaOH/kg. The pH value of rumen liquor was the same for the control and the 33 g NaOH/kg and 80 g NaOH/kg treatments, but significantly increased (P<0.05) with the 120 g NaOH/kg straw treatment. The mean values for rumen ammonia nitrogen (NH3 -N) were the same for the control, the 33 g NaOH/kg, and mineral controls for 80 and 120 g NaOH/kg treatments, but 80 g NaOH and 120 g NaOH/kg straw gave significantly lower values. It is suggested that by partially neutralizing the residual alkali, 80 g NaOH/kg straw can give higher efficiency of energy utilization for growth and digestibility of nutrients compared with 33 g NaOH/kg or the untreated control group, and the extensive use of treated straw in the diets of animals of which a rapid rate of production is not demanded, may be advantageous.  相似文献

The digestibility of treated maize cobs was studied using Romney Marsh wether sheep in a 2 × 3 factorial design; maize cobs were ground through a 10- or 6-mm screen and three chemical treatments were applied to each grinding: distilled water (control); sodium hydroxide (4.5 g per 100 g cob dry matter); and Magadi soda (9.0 g per 100 g cob dry matter). Cobs were treated for 24 h using one litre of solution per kg of maize cobs. The digestion coefficient of crude protein was lowered (P< 0.01) by finer grinding of the maize cobs. Dry matter digestibility coefficients were 44.7, 54.2 and 61.6% for maize cobs treated with water, NaOH and Magadi soda, respectively. Digestibility of energy, cell walls and cellulose was increased more by Magadi soda than by NaOH. Digestibility of acid detergent fibre (ADF) was depressed (P< 0.05) by NaOH but improved (P< 0.05) by Magadi soda. Chemical treatment lowered (P< 0.01) the digestibility of crude protein from 28.0 to 17.0% (NaOH) or to 18.7% (Magadi soda). Grinding and chemical treatment of maize cobs interacted (P< 0.01) in their effects on digestibility of crude protein.Friesian cattle, grazed on a predominantly Nandi Setaria (Setaria sphacelata) and Silver Leaf Desmodium (Desmodium uncinatum) pasture, and supplemented with water-, NaOH- and Magadi soda-treated maize cobs, gained 0.41, 0.55 and 0.51 kg per day, respectively. Daily maize cob intake was higher on NaOH-treated than on water- and Magadi soda-treated cobs. Cattle on NaOH- and Magadi soda-treated cobs required more than 1 month to adapt to the cobs and show superior gain.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of oat hulls (OH) to substitute traditional fiber (a mixture of rice hulls and mugwort (RHM) leaf) in the diets of fattening rabbits by examining on its effect on the growth performance, coefficient of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) of nutrients, gastrointestinal tract development, cecum fermentation and carcass traits. A total of 160 mixed sex Hyla commercial meat rabbits (40/treatment) were used to study the effects of including OH in the diet from 30 to 80 days of age. A control diet based on RHM and containing 175.2 g crude fiber and 169.7 g CP/kg was included. Growth performance and CTTAD of nutrients were recorded from day 35 to day 80 and day 74 to day 80, respectively, whereas gastrointestinal tract development, cecum fermentation and carcass traits were determined at day 80. Increasing concentrations of OH in the diet increased average daily feed intake (P=0.0018), but have no effects on average daily gain and feed conversion ratio (P>0.05). Moreover, the 150 g/kg OH diet decreased the relative weight of full cecum and cecal content (P<0.05), but did not affect other gastrointestinal organs. The CTTAD of NDF and gross energy decreased with the inclusion of OH (P<0.05). No effects of CTTAD of ADF, ADL, dry matter, CP and ether extract were observed (P>0.05). The concentrations of total volatile fatty acid, acetic and butyric acids were greater in rabbits fed the lower levels of OH (0 to 100 g/kg) compared with higher rate (150 g/kg; P<0.05). However, the proportions of acetic, propionic and butyric acids were not affected by treatments (P>0.05). Furthermore, no significant effect on the ratios of acetic/(propionic+butyric) was observed (P>0.05). Hot carcass weight, pH (45 min, 24 h), lightness, redness, yellowness, 24-h drip loss of longissimus lumborum muscles were not affected by diet OH (P>0.05). However, dressing out percentage increased with higher (150 g/kg) inclusion of OH. It is concluded that OH can be included in rabbit diets at levels up to 100 g/kg, but negative effect on digestion and performance were observed with the increasing of OH (150 g/kg).  相似文献

The effects of treating Neepawa wheat straw with anhydrous ammonia (35 kg t?1), sodium hydroxide (50 kg t?1) and pelleting were evaluated in two experiments. The diets consisted of 51% rolled barley, 40% straw, 4% rapeseed meal, 2% tallow, plus minerals and a vitamin supplement. Straw was treated as follows: (1) shredded into 2.0-cm lengths; (2) shredded into 0.64-cm lengths and pelleted; (3) ammoniated and shredded; (4) ammoniated and pelleted; (5) sodium hydroxide and pelleted; (6) ammoniated, sodium hydroxide and pelleted.Apparent digestibility was measured with six steers per treatment. Pelleting had no effect on organic matter (OM) digestibility, but decreased neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and cellulose digestion. Respective increases for OM and NDF digestibility following chemical treatment of the straw were as follows: ammoniation — 15 and 17%; sodium hydroxide — 4 and 13%.The six diets were given to 144 Hereford steers (240 kg) for 92 days in the second experiment. Feed consumption ranged from 8.51 to 10.39 kg day?1 for diets 1 and 4, and body weight gains ranged from 0.83 to 1.26 kg day?1 for diets 1 and 6, respectively. Respective increases for intake, gain and feed efficiency compared to untreated shredded straw were as follows: pelleting — 11, 34 and 17%; ammoniation — 12, 36 and 17%. Sodium hydroxide treatment prior to pelleting improved intake, gain and feed efficiency by 5, 10 and 5%, respectively. There was no evidence of additive effects between ammoniation and either pelleting or alkali treatment, though treatment with sodium hydroxide prior to pelleting did result in the highest gains and feed efficiency.  相似文献

During growth (from 27 to 75 days of age), 384 rabbits were kept in different types of wire-net cages: 72 individual cages (72 rabbits; 10 animals/m2), 48 bicellular cages (96 rabbits; 2 rabbits/cage; 18 animals/m2) and 24 collective cages (216 rabbits; 9 rabbits/cage; 18 animals/m2). The rabbits housed in individual cages showed higher daily weight gain both during the fattening period (from 52 to 75 days of age) and during the whole period of growth (43.0 v. 41.8 and 41.5 g/day; P < 0.05), and they had a higher final live weight at 75 days of age (2678 v. 2619 and 2602 g; P < 0.05) compared with the rabbits in the bicellular and collective cages, respectively. Rabbits in individual cages ingested more feed (133 v. 127 and 126 g/day; P < 0.01), but the feed conversion did not differ significantly among rabbits housed in the three types of cages. At slaughter, the carcass traits and meat quality were weakly affected by the housing system. The transport losses were higher in rabbits kept in individual and bicellular cages compared with those reared in collective cages (3.1% and 2.9% v. 2.2%; P < 0.01). In rabbits kept in individual cages, the hind leg muscle to bone ratio was higher (6.35 v. 6.19 and 5.91; P < 0.05) compared with the bicellular and collective cages, respectively. The pH and colour of the longissimus lumborum did not change with the housing system, while the b* index of the biceps femoris was lower (3.04 and 3.32 v. 4.26; P < 0.001) in the rabbits kept in individual and bicellular cages, respectively, than in those kept in collective cages. In conclusion, the rabbits housed in individual cages showed higher daily growth than rabbits kept in bicellular or collective cages, but they had a similar feed conversion and carcass quality. Differently, neither in vivo performance nor slaughter results differed among the rabbits kept in bicellular cages or in collective cages. The meat colour may be affected by the housing system, but to an extent that is hardly perceivable by the final consumer.  相似文献

The study investigates the effects of a post-weaning water restriction on performance, nutrient digestibility, carcass traits and meat quality of 84-day-old rabbits. A total of 1388 weaned rabbits (35 days) were randomly divided into two groups on the basis of BW and sex. The two groups were fed the same diets ad libitum both in the post-weaning (35 to 60 days) and fattening (61 to 84 days) periods. In the post-weaning period, one group (AL) also received drinking water ad libitum, whereas the other (WR) had a water restriction from 35 to 41 days 2 h/day; from 42 to 48 days 2.5 h/day; from 49 to 55 days 3 h/day; and from 56 to 60 days 4 h/day. During the fattening period, both groups had water-free access. Individual live weights and feed intake per cage were recorded weekly for 32 cages randomly chosen per group (64 rabbits) to calculate the BW gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The apparent digestibility values of nutrients were measured using acid-insoluble ash. Carcass data were collected from 16 rabbits (8 males and 8 females) per group selected for similar final BW in both groups. Mortality from 35 to 60 days was higher in the AL group (10.1% v. 5.2%, for AL and WR, respectively, P < 0.0001). BW gain was higher for the AL group during both the post-weaning (+22.4%, P < 0.01) and the entire period (+7.5%, P < 0.05). Water restriction reduced feed intake both in the post-weaning (−17.4%, P < 0.0001) and in the entire period (−9.9%, P < 0.05). During the fattening period, FCR was lower for the WR group (5.15 v. 5.75 g/g, for WR and AL, respectively, P < 0.05). The apparent digestibilities of dry matter, organic matter, NDF, ADF and cellulose were greater in the restricted rabbits (+4.7%, +4.5%, +10.2%, +18.8% and +12.8%, P < 0.01, P < 0.01, P < 0.05, P < 0.01, P < 0.05, respectively). Perirenal and scapular fat percentages were higher in the AL rabbits (+30.7% and +116.6%, P < 0.01 and P < 0.001, respectively). Water restriction increased saturated fatty acids (C16:0, +12.9%, P < 0.05), lauroleic acid (C12:1, +75.0%, P < 0.01), n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (C20:5, +50.0%, P < 0.01 and C22:5, +16.6%, P < 0.05) and the n-3/n-6 ratio (+28.6%, P < 0.05). The applied water restriction between 35 and 60 days executed during the winter months improved the digestive health of rabbits, with no negative effects on carcass traits, or physical and chemical meat characteristics. However, from the animal welfare point of view, a water restriction can be criticized as a method to restrict feed intake.  相似文献

In the first of three experiments, Hereford cross steers were fed ad libitum from 325 kg to slaughter at 425 kg on diets containing 50% hay and 50% rolled or NaOH-treated (30 g/kg) barley. Liveweight gain and food conversion ratios were similar for the two groups (1.24 vs. 1.42 kg/day; 7.0 vs. 7.0 kg dry matter intake/kg gain, respectively). Dry matter and organic matter digestibility was significantly higher (P < 0.01) when the diet contained rolled, rather than NaOH-treated, barley. There were no significant differences in fibre digestibility (51.2 vs. 59.1%, respectively). In the second experiment, the optimum level of NaOH was determined for the treatment of barley when given with hay. The level of NaOH required to achieve a digestibility in whole barley similar to rolled barley was 40 g NaOH/kg, i.e., approximately 10 g/kg more than when NaOH-treated barley formed the sole component of the diet. Dry matter and organic matter digestibility increased linearly as the level of NaOH applied increased (P < 0.05) and tended to peak at 40 g NaOH/kg barley. Starch digestibility also increased linearly (P < 0.001). Fibre digestibility did not vary significantly between treatments. In the third experiment, the voluntary intake of straw by steers given rolled or NaOH-treated barley at two levels of supplementation was determined. The intake of straw was slightly, but not significantly, greater when NaOH-treated rather than rolled barley was used. The digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, starch and fibre was not significantly affected by method of cereal treatment. No problems of animal health arose throughout the three experiments.  相似文献

In one experiment, 32 lambs were offered (ad libitum) diets based on whole or NaOH-treated barley, or whole or NaOH-treated oats. The live-weight gains from 17 to 35 kg live weight were 371, 290, 258 and 229 g/day, respectively, while the calculated carcass weight gains were 190, 161, 86 and 118 g/day, respectively. There were large differences in the gut contents at slaughter which were 5.0, 3.3, 9.2 and 3.0 kg for the four diets, respectively.Forty-eight, Hereford-cross steers were allocated to six dietary treatments which consisted of unrestricted access to one of the following diets: NaOH-treated barley; rolled barley; NaOH-treated oats; rolled oats; NaOH-treated wheat; or NaOH-treated maize. The steers were fattened from 325 to 425 kg live weight. The average live weight gains were 1.56, 1.91, 1.37, 1.38, 1.49 and 1.42 kg/day, respectively. The steers receiving rolled barley achieved the greatest live weight gains (P < 0.05). The rumen contents at slaughter were 19.8, 32.2, 24.2, 46.0, 20.8 and 18.4 kg, respectively. Because of differences in gut contents, the only significant differences in carcass weight gain were found for the steers receiving rolled oats, for which carcass gain was lower than that for any other treatment (P < 0.001).Sixteen, Hereford-cross steers were allowed free access to diets containing either NaOH-treated barley alone, or NaOH-treated barley mixed with 10% of chopped straw. The live weight gains from 325 to 425 kg live weight were 1.55 and 1.07 kg/day, and food conversion was 5.7 and 8.4 kg feed/kg gain respectively.  相似文献

Feed form is well recognized to improve broiler performance, specially by increasing feed intake (FI). However, when different diet energy levels are used, the results differ in the literature. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of feed form and dietary metabolizable energy (ME) levels on broiler performance, carcass yield and on the digestibility of DM, CP, starch and gross energy. In total, 1152 male Cobb 500 broilers were evaluated between 35 and 47 days. The birds were distributed according to a completely randomized design in a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement, consisting of two feed forms (mash or pellet) and four ME levels (12.73, 13.06, 13.40 or 13.73 MJ/kg), totaling eight treatments with eight replicates of 18 birds. Broilers fed the lowest ME level presented the lowest weight gain (WG) and worst feed per unit gain (P < 0.01). Metabolizable energy intake increased (P < 0.01) with progressive increments of ME, which, however, did not affect caloric conversion (CC, P > 0.05). Pelleted diets promoted higher FI, WG, ME intake (P < 0.01) and better feed per unit gain and CC (P < 0.05) compared with mash. In mash diets, increasing dietary ME levels promoted a linear increase in WG (P < 0.01) and reduced feed per unit gain (P ≤ 0.05), but did not affect FI (P > 0.05). In pelleted diets, on the other hand, increasing ME levels linearly reduced FI (P < 0.05) and feed per unit gain (P < 0.01). Broilers fed pelleted diets presented higher abdominal fat deposition than those fed mash (P < 0.05). Increasing ME levels reduced the coefficients of ileal apparent digestibility of DM (P < 0.01) and total starch (P < 0.05) but did not affect the digestibility of other evaluated nutrients. The digestibility of all nutrients was lower when pelleted diets were fed compared with mash. Increasing inert material inclusion in the diets at the expense of soybean oil to reduce dietary ME levels promoted higher pellet durability index values (P < 0.05) and the percentage of fines (P < 0.01). Overall, the results suggest that pelleted diets promote better broiler performance because they increase FI, since the digestibility of dietary fractions is reduced. Chickens consuming low-energy pelleted diets may increase FI to compensate for energy deficit. In contrast, broilers fed mash diets may have reached their maximum intake capacity and did not regulate FI by changing feed energy density. When feeding pelleted diets, dietary energy reduction should be considered to reduce feed costs and to improve the carcass quality of broilers.  相似文献

The saccharification of agricultural woody wastes was studied using a commercial enzyme preparation, Cellulase onozuka, derived from Trichoderma viride or the solid culture extracts of the fungus. With the intention of producing sugar at low cost, a simple procedure of enzymatic saccharification of rice straw, bagasse, and sawdust was studied. Delignifying methods of these wastes were investigated using dilute sodium hydroxide solution and dilute peracetic acid. Rice straw and bagasse were effectively delignified by boiling in a 1% sodium hydroxide solution for 3 hr or by autoclaving at 120 degrees C in a 1% sodium hydroxide solution for 1 hr. The sawdust from a broad leaved tree (Machilus thunbergii) was delignified by autoclaving at 120 degrees C in a 1% sodium hydroxide solution for 1 hr and by subsequent boiling in diluted 1/5 peracetic acid for 1 hr. This type of sawdust was also delignified by boiling in 1/5 peracetic acid for 1 hr and by subsequent autoclaving at 120 degrees C in a 1% sodium hydroxide solution for 1 hr. The sawdust from a coniferous tree (Cryptomeria japonica) was delignified by boiling in 1/5 peracetic acid for 1 hr and by subsequent autoclaving at 120 degrees C in a 1% sodium hydroxide solution for 1 hr; however, the successive treatment by autoclaving with alkali solution and subsequent boiling with diluted peracetic acid failed to bring about the desired effect. The saccharification of delignified rice straw, bagasse, and sawdust was examined using Cellulase onozuka, wheat bran or rice straw solid culture at various substrate concentrations, resulting in the formation of 5 to 10% sugar solutions after incubation at pH 5.0, 45 degrees C for 48 hr. The optimum substrate concentration existed at around 10%. Reuse of cellulase solution and resaccharification of residual sawdust were considered to be inadequate.  相似文献

Vitamins play an essential role in broiler nutrition. They are fundamental for normal metabolic and physiological process, and their requirements for poultry are not fixed and can be affected by multiple factors. In contrast, mycotoxins are a challenging issue because they hinder performance and the immune system. Vitamin supplementation above minimum requirements would permit improvement in productive potential, health, bone and meat quality in a situation of mycotoxin challenge. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of optimum vitamin nutrition in diets contaminated with aflatoxin in broilers from 1 to 44 days of age. A total of 1800 Cobb 500 male chicks were randomized to 15 sets of eight treatment groups, each containing 15 birds using a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial design (commercial vitamin levels and high vitamin levels, two levels of aflatoxin – 0 and 0.5 ppm with binder levels of 0 and 10 000 mg/kg). The mash diets were corn and soybean meal based, formulated according to commercial practices. Feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion were analyzed for birds from 1 to 44 days of age. To determine carcass characteristics (carcass yield, breast yield and leg yield) and black bone syndrome, two birds were slaughtered from each group at 45 days. Other analyses included breast tenderness, water loss by dripping and malonaldehyde concentrations. The results demonstrated that broilers that were fed high levels of vitamins showed better weight gain, feed conversion, carcass yield and breast yield than broilers that were fed diets with commercial vitamin levels (P < 0.05); also, broilers that were fed diets containing 0.5 ppm aflatoxin had lower weight gain, carcass yield and breast yield (P < 0.05). The use of 10 000 mg/kg of binder improved (P < 0.05) feed conversion throughout the rearing period. We conclude that aflatoxin negatively affects performance and carcass yield; however, feeding optimum vitamin nutrition improved these performance traits.  相似文献

In this study, 160 Hycole weaned rabbits (35 days old) were randomly divided into four groups of 40. The rabbits were studied throughout a 54-day experimentation period in order to determine the impact of dietary supplementation from herbs composed of 0.2%, 0.4% dry ground Lythrum salicaria leaves (LS) and 0.3% Cunirel® (CR; a commercial herb mixture containing LS as the main ingredient) on performance, digestibility, health and meat quality. The basal diet was given to the control group. No significant differences were found in performance, 10 rabbits from each group were selected for evaluation regarding apparent digestibility. The rabbits fed the control diet and the diet with the low level of LS had a higher level of CP digestibility than did the animals that were supplemented with the high LS levels and CR (85.7% and 84.9% v. 84.0% and 84.0%, respectively; P<0.05). The ether extract digestibility was lower in the treatment group with 0.4%LS addition and CR as compared with the control group (52.2% and 54.5% v. 62.6%, respectively; P<0.05). The slaughter process was performed on 89-day-old rabbits to study the carcass characteristics, meat quality, blood parameters, caecal contents and gut histology. The total leukocyte counts in the control animals were lower than they were in the rabbits fed 0.2%, 0.4%LS and CR (4.06 v. 8.25, 8.63 and 8.21×109/l, respectively; P<0.05). For caecal fermentation, the caecal contents of the rabbits fed 0.4% of LS, showed higher concentrations of total volatile fatty acid (VFA; 24.1 v. 18.9 mg/kg dry matter (DM); P<0.05) and acetic acid (18.3 v. 14.4 mg/kg DM; P<0.05), but lower ammonia levels (594 v. 892 mg/kg DM; P<0.05) as compared with the control group. PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analyses were performed to evaluate the microbial community in hard faeces, collected at days 35, 42, 49, 56, 70 and 89, whereas the caecal contents were taken after slaughtering. The results demonstrated that between the treatment groups, the similarity of the microbial communities was higher as compared with the control group. Moreover, only age was shown to influence microbiota diversity. In conclusion, the results of this study indicated that supplementation of LS in rabbit diets leads to an increase in the total white blood cells, total VFA and acetic acid concentration, and a decrease in the ammonia levels, as well as the digestibility when CR and high level of LS were supplemented, without causing any adverse effects on other parameters.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of the inclusion of artichoke bracts (AB) in rabbit diets on the carcass characteristics and rabbit meat quality were studied. A total of 120 rabbits aged 38 days were used and divided into three groups that were fed with different isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets supplemented with AB at 0%, 5% and 10%. The animals were single housed in wire cages at a temperature of 22±2°C and had free access to clean drinking water. At 96 days of age, 12 rabbits/group were slaughtered in an experimental slaughterhouse without fasting. The carcass was weighed and the weights of the skin and full gastrointestinal tract were recorded. Carcasses were chilled at +4°C for 24 h in a refrigerated room. The chilled carcass weight (CCW), dressing out percentage (CCW as percentage of slaughter weight), and the ratio of the head and liver were determined as a percentage of CCW. The reference carcass weight was also calculated. Carcasses were halved and the two longissimus dorsi (LD) muscles were excised. The left LD muscle was divided into two parts. The fore part was used to measure pH, colour and cooking losses. The hind part of the left LD was vacuum-packed, frozen at –20°C and then freeze-dried. Proximate composition, fatty-acid profile and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances values were determined on freeze-dried samples. Results showed that carcass characteristics, LD muscle traits and its oxidative status were not affected by the AB supplementation, except for the meat ether extract content that increased from 0.68% to 0.94% on fresh matter basis with the increase of the AB supplementation (P<0.01). The α-linolenic acid proportion decreased with the increase of the AB supplementation from 3.58% to 2.59% in the LD muscle and from 4.74% to 3.62% in the perirenal fat, whereas the n-6/n-3 ratio increased significantly with increasing AB inclusion from 7.15 to 10.20 in the LD muscle and from 6.68 to 9.35 in the perirenal fat (P<0.01). Furthermore, no significant difference was found in preference among meat samples from each group. The enrichment of the rabbit’s diet with AB allows the production of rabbit meat with a good degree of unsaturation and low saturation, even if the n-6/n-3 ratio was slightly worse.  相似文献

The goal of this research was to study the effect of the substitution of wheat starch by potato starch (PS) on the performance, health and digestion of growing rabbits. Three experimental diets were formulated with 0%, 7% and 14% PS (PS0, PS7 and PS14, respectively) and similar starch contents (22% dry matter basis), proteins and fibre. The three diets were administered to three groups of 48 rabbits from weaning (28 days) to slaughter (70 days), and growth and health measurements were made. Another 10 rabbits per diet (30 rabbits at each age), reared under similar conditions, were slaughtered at 6 to 10 weeks of age, and the digesta were collected to analyse the caecal microbial activity (pH, volatile fatty acids (VFA) levels, fibrolytic activity) and the starch concentration in the ileal digesta. At the same ages, the whole tract digestibility coefficients were measured in 10 other rabbits for each treatment (30 rabbits). The feed intake between 28 and 42 days of age (days) increased by 11% (P < 0.05) in PS0 v. PS14. Over the whole growth period (28 to 70 days), weight gain was similar among diets (40.5 g/day), whereas the feed intake and feed conversion increased (8.5% and 5.2%, respectively; P < 0.05) with the PS14 diet. Mortality and morbidity were not affected by the diets. The starch concentration of the ileal contents increased (P < 0.01) with the addition of PS to the diet (0.39%, 0.77% and 1.08% for diets PS0, PS7 and PS14, respectively). Starch digestibility was 0.8 percentage units higher (99.8% v. 99.0%) with the PS0 diet than the PS14 diet (P = 0.04). The bacterial cellulolytic activity in the caecum tended to be higher with the PS14 diet (P = 0.07). The total VFA caecal concentration increased (P < 0.01) only in 6-week-old rabbits with PS7 compared with PS0 (54.7 v. 74.5 mmol/l). Protein digestibility and ileal starch concentration decreased (P < 0.05) with age (6 v. 10 weeks), and hemicelluloses digestibility increased (P < 0.05). At 10 weeks of age, rabbits showed a higher VFA pool (6.25 mol) and proportion of butyrate (15.9%) and a lower proportion of acetate (79.3%), ammonia level (7.5 mmol/l) and C3/C4 ratio (0.31) than at 6 weeks of age. The intake of potato starch had no effect on the performance, caecal microbial activity or digestive health of growing rabbits.  相似文献

The current experiment with 3 trials aimed to study the effect of two levels of dietary fibre – high fibre (HF; 323 g aNDFom/kg) and low fibre (LF; 248 g aNDFom/kg) – and the effect of mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) addition (1 g/kg) to the LF diet (LFM) on the performances and health status of growing rabbits, digestibility and caecal fermentative characteristics. In the growth trial 132 rabbits of both sexes were used (11 cages with 4 rabbits per treatment) from weaning (32 days of age) to slaughter (67 days of age). Rabbits fed HF diet showed a significantly higher weight gain and live weight at 67 days than rabbits fed LF diet (2032 g vs. 1935 g) (P<0.05). Feed and digestible energy intake increased with dietary fibre level (P<0.05). During the growing period rabbits fed HF diet had a feed intake 26% higher than those fed LF diet. Feed efficiency ratio was worse in HF animals (0.334 vs. 0.385; P<0.05). Addition of MOS to LF diet did not affect growth performance parameters (P>0.05). Mortality and morbidity rate were not affected by treatments. In the digestibility 24 rabbits from 46 to 51 days of age trial were used. The HF diet resulted in a significant (P<0.05) decrease in digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and protein while the aNDFom digestibility was not significantly different between diets (P>0.05). Supplementation with MOS had no effects on digestibility (P>0.05). In the 3rd trial the caecal traits were measured in 30 rabbits with 46 days of age that received the experimental diets in the previous 14 days. Caecal production of total volatile fatty acids (VFA), acetate and propionate were significantly higher (P>0.05) on rabbits fed HF diets than on rabbits fed LF diets. The total VFA concentration increased 64% (from 5.01 to 8.20 mmol/100 ml) and acetate increased 73% (from 3.73 to 6.44 mmol/100 ml). Butyrate production was not different between diets (P>0.05). Fibre level did not affect proportions of VFA and caecal contents and caecal weights. Addition of MOS to LF diet did not affect any caecal trait (P>0.05). It was concluded that the reduction of dietary fibre level increases feed digestibility but worsens rabbit growth performances. Supplementation of low fibre diet with 1 g MOS/kg is not enough to reduce its negative effects on growth performances.  相似文献

Boswellia serrata resin (BSR), exhibiting a variety of therapeutic properties, is applied in Asian traditional medicine. These properties can be used in poultry production as well. Application of the resin as a phytobiotic in broiler chicken rearing can increase the productivity and improve meat quality. However, the optimum and maximum levels of BSR in broiler diets need to be assessed. The study determined the effect of different levels of supplementation of BSR (directly derived, unprocessed) in diets for broiler chickens on the production traits, selected slaughter analysis parameters, nutrient digestibility and selected hematological, biochemical and immunological parameters. In total, 200 1-day-old broiler chickens were assigned randomly to four treatments with five replicate cages of 10 broiler chickens/cage (five females and five males). The experiment lasted 6 weeks, and the broiler chickens were fed diets containing 0% (control), 3% (BSR3), 4% (BSR4) or 5% (BSR5). In the broiler chickens receiving diets with addition of resin BSR3 and BSR4, there was an increase in (P<0.05) BW gain, ether extract, ADF, organic matter and energy digestibility of the diets. Moreover, the best carcass quality with a high proportion of muscles and low abdominal fat content (P<0.05) was noted in these groups. The content of uric acid (P<0.01) and the activity of aspartate aminotransferase (P<0.001) and alkaline phosphatase (P<0.05) in blood plasma decreased upon the BSR supplementation. Globulin content increased in blood plasma (P<0.05) along the increasing level of BSR. The blood immunoglobulin A concentration was only affected by the BSR treatments (P<0.05). It may be concluded that BSR can be regarded as a safe and effective dietary additive for broiler chicken.  相似文献

Maize grains contaminated with fumonisin, a metabolite of Fusarium verticillioides was incorporated into matured male rabbits’ diet to evaluate its effects on performance, haematology and serum biochemistry in rabbits. Thirty individually caged crossbred adult rabbit bucks averaging 1.36 ± 0.01 kg (about 22–24-week-old) were randomly allotted to three treatment diets comprising a control diet (containing 0.35 ± 0.02 mg fumonisin/kg) and two test diets containing 12.30 ± 0.16 and 24.56 ± 0.14 mg fumonisin/kg, constituting treatments 1 (low infection), 2 (medium infection) and 3 (high infection), respectively, in a five-week feeding trial. Results showed that the dry matter intake (DMI) (g/rabbit) at the end of the feeding trial was significantly (P < 0.05) influenced. The DMI declined with increasing dietary fumonisin by a significant 80% and 95% (P < 0.05) for high and medium levels of dietary fumonisin, respectively, relative to the mean weekly DMI of 609.93 ± 45.08 g by rabbits fed diet with low level of fumonisin. The weekly weight gain tended to decrease with increased dietary fumonisin levels, while the haematological and serum biochemical components examined, were not statistically influenced among the diets when fed to male rabbits for a period of 5 weeks. Target audience: Livestock farmers, Feed millers, and Animal nutritionists.  相似文献

Maize cobs were chosen as a test material as these are produced centrally in home-steads during shelling and therefore collection and transport costs are eliminated. The knowledge gained from the improvement of their nutritive value by the dry NaOH treatment method can be adapted easily. The effect of treatment rates was tested with rams in three experiments. In the first experiment, coarsely ground maize cobs were treated at 1.67, 3.33 and 5.0 kg NaOH/100 kg cobs dry matter (DM) and formed 52% of the rations on an air-dry basis. Digestibility increased significantly (P < 0.05) and a regression equation y = 51.57 + 2.28x was calculated in which y = DM digestibility, and x = kg NaOH/100 cobs DM. In the second experiment, maize cobs treated at 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 kg NaOH/100 kg cobs DM formed 67% of the ration and the digestibility of DM, organic matter (OM), cell wall constituents (CWC) and crude fibre (CF) were markedly increased from 2.5 to 5.0 kg NaOH treatment levels and no further responses were obtained thereafter. In the third experiment, maize cobs formed 61% of the rations and the material was treated at 0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 kg NaOH. Digestibility of DM, OM, CF and energy was significantly (P < 0.05) increased at 5.0 and 7.5 kg NaOH levels. Voluntary feed intake followed the same trend, values for g DM intake per kgW0.75 per day being 60.5, 83.3, 95.7 and 96.0 in the order of increasing NaOH treatment rates. The total digestibility DM, OM and energy intakes were more closely correlated to voluntary feed intake than to digestibility coefficients. It is concluded that 5 kg NaOH/100 kg DM is optimum for both digestibility and voluntary feed intake. The volume of NaOH solution was varied from 25 to 200 l per 100 kg DM of maize cobs in four experiments and the digestibility of DM, OM and CWC with sheep was not affected by this factor, except that the smallest volume (25 l) depressed digestion slightly, apparently because of the difficulty of getting effective mixing with small volumes. It is concluded that 50 l per 100 kg DM of maize cobs is the minimum volume.  相似文献
