Caracterisation d'une ATP-ase membranaire en presence d'une phosphatase acide dans les lutoïdes du latex d'Hevea brasiliensis

Latex lutoids constitute a polydispersed vacuole with lysosomal character. Lutoids possess a membrane which retains ATP-ase and acid phosphatase activity. Acid phosphatase may be inhibited by ammonium molybdate or phosphate, making it possible to characterize an ATP-ase with an optimum pH of between 7·5 and 8·0. This ATP-ase is Mg²⁺ dependent, does not require K⁺ specifically but is affected by the ionic concentration of the medium.     

Structure cristalline d'une deuxième forme de mélézitose monohydrate. Effet de l'environnement sur la géométrie d'un oligosaccharide

Melezitose [O-α-d-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-d-fructofuranosyl α-d-glucopyranoside] monohydrate crystallizes in two polymorphic forms (I and II). The structure of form II, studied by X-ray crystallography, shows an orthorhombic cell having a 7.135 (4), b 15.362 (8), c 19.134 (8) Å, space group P2₁2₁2₁, and Z 4. The structure, solved by direct methods, was refined to a final value of R 0.045. The molecule of form II seems to be more constrained by its crystalline environment than that of form I. These constraints imply not only little variations in glycosidic bonds, but also a change of conformation for the furanose ring, and a perceptible deformation of the sucrose pyranose ring. This study gives an example of estimation of oligosaccharide molecular-flexibility.     

Sur le caractère probablement artificiel d'un C-benzyl flavonoïde obtenu à partir d'un hydrolysat de feuilles d'Hymenosporum flavum

Besides quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin, at least three other flavonoids can be obtained from the leaves of Hymenosporum flavum after acid hydrolysis. One of these, a kaempferol derivative: p-hydroxyphenyl,(3,4′,5,7 -tetrahydroxy)-8-flavonyl, methylmethane or 8-α-methyl-C-(p-hydroxybenzyl)kaempferol has been identified by study of its spectral properties. It is probably an artifact formed during hydrochloric acid treatment of the leaves.     

Le test urinaire PCA3 : quelles perspectives ?

Since its introduction 10 years ago, the urinary PCA3 test was evaluated in several studies that allowed demonstration of its diagnostic value when predicting prostate biopsy outcome. Its good specificity, notably when compared to seric PSA, offers to the urologist the opportunity to better evaluate whether prostate biopsies are warranted, especially in patients with at least one set of previous negative biopsies. Several points remain to be determined such as its true influence on prostate decision making in clinical practice and the resulting medico-economic benefit. The place of the urinary PCA3 test among other developing prostate cancer biomarkers, notably PHI index and urinary TMPRSS2:ERG fusions, has also to be defined.     

Purification de l'alcool deshydrogénase de tomate par chromatographie d'affinité

Tomato alcohol dehydrogenase has been purified 99-fold by affinity chromatography on Blue Sepharose CL-6B with 37% yield. The enzyme so obtained is homogenous in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. By adding 20% glycerol to the extraction and purification buffers, an enzyme is obtained which is stable for several months at 4°. The molecular weight values determined by gel filtration (Sephadex G 200) and polyacrylamide gradient gel electrophoresis on one hand and by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in sodium dodecyl sulfate on the other, show that the enzyme exists in dimeric form.     

Analyse biostratigraphique et paléontologique de l'Albien marin d'Estremadura (Portugal)

The marine Albain from Estremadura is splited up into four Orbitolinidae zones, adjusted to biostratigraphic scales from mesogean province: zone with Orbitolina (Mesorbitolina) minuta (lower to middle Albian); zone with Neorbitolinopsis conulus (base of upper Albian); zone with Orbitolina (Orbitolina) concava (top of upper Albian) and zone with Orbitolina (Orbitolina) duranddelgai (Vraconian). The vertical extension of the main fossils is replaced in the framework of these zones. The most interesting species for biostratigraphy, paleoecology or taxinomy are summarily described.     

L'intensité lumineuse,son influence sur la teneur en phosphore des carapaces d'Ostracodes

Actual and fossil shells of ostracodes have beenanalyzed with an electronic microprobe: all of them contain phosphorus. X—pictures teach us that the repartition of this chemical element is homogeneous in all the points of the shell. There is no relationship between phosphorus contents in the shells of ostracodes and salinity. In return, there is a relationship between phosphorus contents and temperature and, chiefly, organic phosphorus contents in the environment. However, it is interesting to observe that the analyzed shells of fresh-water ostracodes contain less phosphorus that the generality of the shells of marine ostracodes. The contents of organic phosphorus, in the biotope, depends on the growth of phytoplancton in the upper layers of water which needs a minimum light intensity.     

Modalités d'installation et d'évolutiondes Harpocératinés (ammonitina A) au Domérien inférieur dans le sud-Ouest de l'Europe (France,Portugal)

In Mesogea, the Harpoceratinae were known asearly as the end of the Lower Carixian. They later reached the sub-boreal province through the Alps or the South of the Iberic Peninsula. The analysis of the populations met in four crosssections of the Lower Domerian (Causses, Mâconnais, Franche-Comté, Portugal) showed the settling down of the Protogrammoceras isseli group that set up and evoluated in a similar way in the different areas in spite of a certain originality.On the one hand, it gave the cladogenetic groupP. monestieri-nitescens by diminution of the ribing density, strengthening of the ribs and simplification of the suture.On the other hand, a slower evolution give, near the end of the Stokesi zone, P. normanianum in the Paris Basin and in Burgundy, and P. lusitanicum in Portugal. At the same time, a new invader, P. celebratum, arrived in the Causses (and in Portugal).     

Révision d'?Orthis? berthoisiRouault, 1849Orthida (Brachiopoda) de l'Ordovicien du Massif Armoricain

Since it is impossible to state about any genericassignment for Orthis berthoisiRouault, 1849the species name is herein restricted to original specimens figured by the author. The study of the Brachiopods from the St-Germain-sur-Ille Formation allows to confirm the first determination by De Tromelin &Lebesconte (1875)and to establish their conspecificity with Orthis berthoisi var. erratica described in 1869 by Davidson from the Budleigh-Salterton pebbles. The successive assignment of the species erratica to the genus Svobodaina(Cocks, 1978) then to Corineorthis(Cocks & Lockley, 1981) is discussed. The attribution to the genus DrabovinellaHavlicek, 1951appears most likely.     

Does COMT genotype influence the effects of d‐amphetamine on executive functioning?

In a widely cited study, Mattay et al. reported that amphetamine (0.25 mg/kg oral, or 17 mg for a 68 kg individual) impaired behavioral and brain indices of executive functioning, measured using the Wisconsin Card Sorting Task (WCST) and N‐Back working memory task, in 6 individuals homozygous for the met allele of the val158met polymorphism in the catechol‐O‐methyltransferase (COMT) gene, whereas it improved executive functioning in 10 individuals homozygous for the more active val allele. We attempted to replicate their behavioral findings in a larger sample, using similar executive functioning tasks and a broader range of amphetamine doses. Over four sessions, n = 200 healthy normal adults received oral placebo, d‐amphetamine 5, 10, and 20 mg (average of 0.07, 0.15 and 0.29 mg/kg), under counterbalanced double‐blind conditions and completed WCST and N‐back tests of executive functioning. Amphetamine had typical effects on blood pressure and processing speed but did not affect executive functioning. COMT genotype (val158met) was not related to executive functioning under placebo or amphetamine conditions, even when we compared only the homozygous val/val and met/met genotypes at the highest dose of amphetamine (20 mg). Thus, we were not able to replicate the behavioral interaction between COMT and amphetamine seen in Mattay et al. We discuss possible differences between the studies and the implications of our findings for the use of COMT genotyping to predict clinical responses to dopaminergic drugs, and the use of intermediate phenotypes in genetic research.     

Alcaloïdes d'Alstonia vitiensis var. Novo ebudica monachino

Five alkaloids have been isolated from Alstonia vitiensis: pleïocarpamine, vincorine, cabucraline, alstovine (11-methoxycompactinervine) and quaternoxine; the latter two are new alkaloids.     

Évolution des constituants biochimiques des principaux compartiments de l'oursin Arbacia lixula (L.) au cours d'un cycle sexuel et effets d'un jeûne de courte durée au cours de la maturation sexuelle

The importance of the different compartments of the body in Arbacia lixula (L.) has been investigated by means of short duration starvation experiments carried out during periods of sexual rest and of maturity. The oxygen consumption was also determined during those two phases of the sexual cycle. The amount of calories furnished by the transformation of the biochemical constituents where significant lowering of the levels has been noted, cover largely the needs of standard metabolism.Annual variations of the protein, lipid and carbohydrate percentage in the 3 compartments: test, gut, gonads, have been followed from September 1973 to May 1974. An increase in the proteins is observed in the gonads from the beginning of growth to maturity, as well as an increase in the carbohydrates and the lipids during the period of growth. The carbohydrates of the gut increase in winter and the lipids in spring.An estimate has been made of the quantity of energy liberated by the 3 compartments on the death of the sea urchin.
