A -carotene oxygenase is described which occurs in the Cyanobacterium Microcystis. It cleaves -carotene and zeaxanthin specifically at the positions 7,8 and 7,8, while echinenone and myxoxanthophyll are not affected. The oxidative cleavage of -carotene leads to the formation of -cyclocitral and crocetindial and that of zeaxanthin to hydroxy--cyclocitral and crocetindial in nearly stoichiometric amounts. Oxidant is dioxygen as has been demonstrated by high incroporation (86%) of 18O2 into -cyclocitral. -Carotene oxygenase is membrane bound, sensitive to sulfhydryl reagents, antioxidants and chelating agents. Iron seems to be an essential part of the enzyme activity. Heterochromatin variation in Cryptobothrus chrysophorus   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Northern and southern races of the Australian grasshopper Cryptobothrus chrysophorus share the same diploid chromosome number (2n=23, 24). The northern race is differentiated from the southern by fixed extra blocks of heterochromatin located distally on five of the six medium pairs of autosomes (M4, 5, 6, 8 and 9). The megameric M7 pair, which is completely heterochromatic in both races, is also frequently larger in the northern race. Additionally, while there is considerable polymorphism for the presence of supernumerary heterochromatic segments on the two smallest autosome pairs (S10, 11) in both races, the precise character of this polymorphism is strikingly different between them. That found in the north is both more extensive and more variable. An analysis of the patterns of C-banding obtained in neuroblast c-mitoses indicates even more variation within and between races than was anticipated from the patterns of heteropycnosis seen at first prophase of male meiosis. Thus, while the distal blocks on the M4, 6, 8 and 9 elements in the northern race invariably C-band those of the M5 never do. On the other hand polymorphisms for C-bands on the M5, 6, 8 and 9 are seen in some populations of the southern race but in regions which are not visibly heteropycnotic at meiosis. Polymorphisms for the pattern of C-banding also occur in the northern race populations in the M4, 6, 8 and 9 elements and some of these are associated with clear length differences in the chromosomes concerned. Others involve differences in the expression of the distal C-bands in M8 and 9 which vary from dark to intermediate. The supernumerary segments on the S10 and 11 pairs are especially variable in respect of their C-banding properties. Some are entirely C-banded, some show no C-banding whatsoever and some are composed of both banded and unhanded regions. Banding is again most pronounced, however, in the northern race. Finally the character of the megameric M7 is strikingly different in the two races not only in respect of its size, which is sometimes larger than that of the south, but also in respect of the extent of C-banding which is always more complex in the northern form irrespective of its size.  相似文献

The ability to tolerate hypoxia in some haplochromine cichlid fishes contributes to the richness of habitats occupied by the lineage and may be important in interlacustrine dispersal through swampy channels. Lacustrine members of the genus Astatotilapia tend to be ecologically plastic but are rarely encountered in the interior of dense swamps. A notable exception is seen in the swamp corridor that joins Lake Kabaleka with Lake George, Uganda, where one species (Astatotilapia wrought-iron) is abundant, and a second species, A. aeneocolor, is rare. Both species are abundant in the open waters of the main lake. In this paper, we compare physiological (oxygen consumption) and behavioral indicators of hypoxia tolerance between A. wrought-iron from swamp and open-water habitats and between the two species of Astatotilapia. When exposed to progressive hypoxia, all fish used aquatic surface respiration (ASR); however, swamp-dwelling A. wrought-iron showed lower gill ventilation rates prior to the initiation of ASR, higher pre-ASR aggression rates, higher swimming speed during ASR, and a higher rate of bubble exchange than both the open-water group of A. wrought-iron and A. aeneocolor. These differences may reflect interpopulational variation in selection pressure for low-oxygen tolerance between swamp and open-water habitats. Several lines of evidence suggest that A. wrought-iron was in general more hypoxia tolerant than A. aeneocolor. These include a lower ASR90 threshold, a drop in gill ventilation rate with the onset of ASR, and lower rate of equilibrium loss under extreme hypoxia in A. wrought-iron. The routine metabolic rate and critical oxygen tension did not differ between swamp-dwelling and open-water A. wrought-iron, or between A. wrought-iron and A. aeneocolor. Comparative data on the ASR thresholds and critical oxygen tensions of the Astatotilapia species from Lake Kabaleka and other East African cichlids suggest intermediate hypoxia tolerance. Nevertheless, our study suggests that some generalized lacustrine haplochromines may leak through swamp corridors even under relatively extreme conditions.  相似文献

The dynamics of coupled biological oscillators can be modeled by averaging the effects of coupling over each oscillatory cycle so that the coupling depends on the phase difference between the two oscillators and not on their specific states. Average phase difference theory claims that mode locking phenomena can be predicted by the average effects of the coupling influences. As a starting point for both empirical and theoretical investigations, Rand et al. (1988) have proposed d/dt= — K sin ), with phase-locked solutions =arcsin( /K), where is the difference between the uncoupled frequencies and K is the coupling strength. Phase-locking was evaluated in three experiments using an interlimb coordination paradigm in which a person oscillates hand-held pendulums. was controlled through length differences in the left and right pendulums. The coupled frequency c was varied by a metronome, and scaled to the eigenfrequency v of the coupled system K was assumed to vary inversely with c. The results indicate that: (1) and K contribute multiplicatively to (2) =0 or = regardless of K when =0; (3) 0 or regardless of when K is large (relative to ); (4) results (1) to (3) hold identically for both in phase and antiphase coordination. The results also indicate that the relevant frequency is c/v rather than c. Discussion high-lighted the significance of confirming =arcsin(/K) for more general treatments of phase-locking, such as circle map dynamics, and for the 11 phase-entrainment which characterizes biological movement systems.  相似文献

Perpetual cultures ofCaulobacter crescentus were maintained in a chemostat and provided with media that provided glucose, glutamate, ammonium chloride, and Na/K phosphate as sources, respectively, of C, of C and N, of N and of P. All cultures were maintained at the same relative flow rate, f/V, so that reproductive rate was constant. As the CNP ratio was shifted from a balanced ratio of 100 g C9–10 g N1 g P, the cells modulated their rates of uptake, reducing the rates of uptake of excess element-sources and accelerating the uptake of potential sources of the limiting element. The change in N-limited cells was the greatest, resulting in a nearly 150-fold increase in rate of uptake of amino acids. Poly--hydroxybutyrate or polyphosphate was stored whenever C or P, respectively, was not the limiting element. Direct measurement of cell and stalk surface areas on purified peptidoglycan sacculi of P-limited cells revealed that the surface of both swarmer and stalked cells, as well as the stalk surface, participated in the accelerated rate of phosphate uptake. Swarmers from N-limited populations were the only cells that exhibited chemotactic responsiveness-to methionine, NH4Cl and glutamate, but not to glucose or phosphate-sufficient to be detectable in a microcapillary assay. In populations that were C-limited and provided with ammonium ions as the principal source of N, morphogenesis and reproduction deteriorated and a steady state could not be maintained. Generally, the responses ofC. crescentus were appropriate to manage unbalanced nutrient supplies, but this oligoheterotrophic organism did not tolerate excesses of inorganic nutrients when limited for its sources of C, of energy, and of ammonium acceptor.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung In der Einleitung ist das Ziel der Arbeit in den wesentlichsten Punkten herausgestellt.Die Bursastrukturen (Bursavelum und Rippen bzw. Papillen) der parasitischen Strongylina lassen sich von den entsprechenden Bildungen der freilebenden Rhabditina, vor allem der Gattung Rhabditis, ableiten und in ihren Einzelgliedern homologisieren.Die im Laufe der Phylogenie bei den Strongylina auftretenden strukturellen Transformationen lassen sich auf einige wenige, relativ einfache morphogenetische Grundvorgänge zurückführen, die da sind: Wachstumsallometrien, Materialkompensationen, Organverschmelzungen und Spaltungen (Fissationen), Rudimentationen und ähnliche Vorgänge.Innerhalb der Strongylina Bursa ist ein Gefälle der Wachstumsgradienten feststellbar, das sich vom Zentrum der Bursa sowohl nach distal als auch proximalwärts abschwdcht. Zunehmende Förderung der zentral gelegenen Organe (Rippen) führt zu entsprechender Reduktion der peripheren Bursastrukturen, was vor allem im terminalen Schwanzabschnitt auffällt und zur Ausbildung des oft nur noch als Rudiment vorhandenen Dorsalrippenkomplexes führt. Letzterer entspricht in seiner Gesamtheit der Schwanzspitze der peloderen Rhabditiden mit den Papillen 9 und 10.Die bei Rhabditis moist getrennten Papillen 7 und 8 sind bei allen Strongylina zu einer Rippe (Externodorsal-Rippe) verschmolzen, die jedoch in manchen Aberrationen durch Abspaltung eines akzessorischen Astes ihre wahre Natur (als Verschmelzungsprodukt) zu erkennen gibt (Atavismus).Da dieselben Transformationsvorgänge innerhalb der Strongylina mehrfach unabhängig voneinander wirksam geworden sind, treten bestimmte Strukturformen als Parallelbildungen in verschiedenen phylogenetischen Union auf (polytope Entstehung).Zahlreich untersuchte Bildungsabweichungen (Aberrationen), deren Bedeutung für die Morphologie kurz umrissen wird, erschöpfen sich in den gleichen strukturellen Transformationstypen, die auch bei der Evolution der verschiedenen Union der Strongylina nachweisbar sind. Die Aberrationen führen daher häufig zu Atavismen oder zu Parallelvariationen (homologe Variationen").Die Zahl der Umwandlungsmbglichkeiten (Potenzen) der Bursastrukturen innerhalb der Strongylina ist beschränkt (Paripotenz im Sinne Haeckers). Bestimmte Arten (und Entwicklungshnien) haben jeweils nur bestimmte Potenzen realisiert. Andere können jedoch latent (virtuell) im Kryptotypus vorhanden sein, ohne normalerweise in Erscheinung. zu treten. In bestimmten Aberrationen können sie jedoch plötzlich realisiert werden, so ihr latentes Vorhandensein demonstrierend (Pluripotenz).Wie lange bestimmte Potenzen in einer Gruppe erhalten bleiben konnen, verdeutlichen auch die Schwanzhocker weiblicher Nematoden, als zum Bauplan der Nematoden gehbrende Bildungen. Die Potenz zur Ausbildung dieser Strukturen kommt offensichtlich sehr vielen Nematoden-Arten zu, wird jedoch nur in relativ wenigen Fällen, aber innerhalb der verschiedenen Gruppen bald hier, bald dort (disjunkte Verbreitung), realisiert. Es handelt sich bei den Schwanzhöckern um rudimentäre Organe, die bei keiner Nematoden-Art mehr voll ausgebildet erhalten sind. Ihre Rudimentation beruht zum Teil auf Materialentzug, als Folge von Unkonstruktionen der Schwanzregion, wobei die Adultstadien zuerst betroffen werden (Aphanisie nach Sewertzoff).Bei den in Chiropteren parasitierenden Strongylacanthinae haben sich Schwanzhöcker noch bei allen Arten erhalten, was ein offensichtlich archaisches Merkmal darstellt. Bei anderen Nematoden, denen sie nur im Larvalstadium zukommen, treten sie wohl durch Fötalisation in seltenen Fällen auch bei den adulten Stadien wieder auf.Alle speziellen Bursaformen der Strongylina lassen sich durch relativ wenige und einfache Transformationsvorgänge aus einem durch Abstraktion gewonnenen diagrammatischen Typus ableiten (Prinzip der variablen Proportionen" nach Troll).Die typisierten Umwandlungsvorgänge decken sich weitgehend mit den von Remane allgemein gefaßten strukturellen Typen der Realmutationen. Da sie bei den beobachteten Aberrationen, deren Entstehung auf dem Wege über Realmutationen sehr wahrscheinlich ist, in homologer Weise auftreten, kann das innerhalb der Strongylina zu beobachtende Evolutionsphänomen auf Realmutationen zurückgeführt warden.Obwohl sich die untersuchten strukturellen Transformationen in dem systematisch relativ wait gefaßten Rahmen einer Unterordnung abspielen (transspezifische Evolution nach Rensch), handelt es sich bei der von uns bevorzugten Terminologie (nach Woltereck und Remane), unter Berücksichtigung des Charakters der Umwandlungen, doch nur um Vorgänge, die in den Bereich der Mikroevolution fallen.  相似文献

The mechanism of uptake of water-insoluble -sitosterol by a newly isolated strain of Arthrobacter simplex SS-7 was studied. The production of an extracellular sterol-pseudosolubilizing protein during growth of A. simplex on -sitosterol was demonstrated by isolating the factor from the cell-free supernatant and its subsequent purification by Sephadex G-150 column chromatography. The M r of the purified sterol-pseudosolubilizing protein determined by SDS–PAGE was 19kDa. The rate of sterol pseudosolubilization (5.2×10–3g l–1h–1) could not adequately account for the rate of sterol uptake (72×10–3g l–1h–1) and the specific growth rate (56×10–3 h–1). However in the unfavourable growth condition, when the cells were treated with sodium azide at the level of 30–60% of MIC, the sterol pseudosolubilization accounted for nearly 74% of the total growth containing 96% free cells. Cellular adherence to substrate particles was found to play an active role in the normal growth of the strain on -sitosterol. Unlike sodium acetate-grown cells, whose surface activity was negligible (60mNm–1), the sterol-grown cells had strong surface activity (40mNm–1). The high lipid content and long chain fatty acids in the cell-wall of -sitosterol-grown cells probably contribute to the high sterol adherence activity of the cells.  相似文献

Summary A -1,3-glucan-binding protein (GBP) was purified from crayfish plasma, and incubated with laminarin (L), a -1,3-glucan. The GBP reacted with laminarin (GBP-L) induced strong spreading and partial degranulation of isolated and separated crayfish granular haemocytes. However, neither the GBP nor laminarin alone induced any changes in the crayfish granular cells. When monolayers of granular haemocytes were incubated with 20 g of GBP-L, more than 82% of the haemocytes were affected. The activity of GBP-L on granular cells was dose-dependent and a plateau was reached at 10 g of GBP-L. The degranulation of crayfish haemocytes induced by GBP-L seemed to occur by a regulated exocytosis, since it was strongly inhibited by specific blockers of this process such as SITS or calmidazolium. Monospecific anti-GBP antibodies also totally blocked the effect of GBP-L on crayfish granular cells. Indirect immunofluoresence staining demonstrated that the GBP-L could bind to the surface of granular cells, whereas GBP did not bind or bound very weakly to the haemocyte surface.  相似文献

Summary Analysis of 62 mature Norway spruce (Picea abies provenance Viborg) trees growing in a Danish plantation was undertaken along with analysis of their nutrient contents (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, B and Na), in each of the three youngest needle age classes, from branches of four exposure directions near the tree top. The aim was to investigate if one among the studied possible predisposing factors was also a triggering factor in the 1989 outbreak of the Red Norway spruce decline in Denmark. Neither nutrient imbalance or deficiency, nor excessive N-deposition or salt-stress were indicated as triggering factors in 1989. The Red syndrome, noticeable for the bright red colour of the current-year needles, was found to be an extension of the European type Novel Decline. Red syndrome is similar to previously reported phenomena of top-dying and sub top-dying, in that it had fewer needle age classes and significantly higher contents of mobile cations (and Ca) in the younger needle classes. Tree ring analysis suggested that the Red syndrome was initiated in the early 1980s, when the trees experienced adverse climatic conditions. Because of this long-term development of the Red Norway spruce decline syndrome, it is concluded that a triggering factor is of minor importance relative to the multitude of predisposing factors.  相似文献

Summary In a direct leukocyte migration test, peripheral blood leukocytes were pulsed with a high dose (2.5 and 0.5 mg/ml) of 3 M KCl extracts from 5 different colorectal tumours as well as with one 3 M KCl extract of normal colonic mucosa. Patients showing a pathological migration index (0.80 and 1.17), with 3 or more out of 5 tumour extracts, were considered as positives.With this test mode 93% (55/59) of patients with colorectal carcinomas were reactive, irrespective of the tumour stage, while only 7% (2/27) of patients with non-malignant colorectal diseases showed a positive reaction. Patients with malignant and non-malignant diseases of other organs were reactive in 2–3% of cases. No positive reactivity was observed with leukocytes from 37 healthy volunteers. Pulsing leukocytes with the normal colonic mucosal extract, a pathological migration index was found in about 20% of colorectal cancer patients, but not in healthy volunteers.Evaluating 10 single tumour extracts individually, reactivity of cancer patients' leukocytes ranged from 65–89% of tests, the difference being not statistically significant. Leukocytes from healthy volunteers showed a pathological migration index with the different extracts in 0–6% of tests.With the leukocyte migration test we could not differentiate between tumours of the colon, sigma or rectum. Patients bearing tumours in any part of the large bowel showed pathological leukocyte migration with extracts of colon-, sigma- and rectum tumours. When the cross-reactivity study was extended to tumours of the gastrointestinal tract, it was found that patients with colorectal tumours were reactive, in a high percentage of tests, with extracts of gastric tumours, but gastric as well as oesophageal and pancreatic cancer patients' leukocytes only reacted occasionally with colorectal tumour extracts.In the follow-up study, a positive reactivity was still found 10–14 days after surgery in 27/31 patients. After more than 2 months, the frequency of positive reactivity decreased to 10/70 cases. Summary The activities of -galactosidase, -mannosidase and -mannosidase were determined in extracts from the endosperm and from the embryo of fenugreek seeds at different stages of germination. Endosperm homogenates contained little or no activity of the above enzymes in the early stages of germination, before the reserve galactomannan began to be mobilised. The onset of galactomannan breakdown coincided with the appearance of -galactosidase and -mannosidase activities, which increased throughout the period of galactomannan degradation and then remained constant. A similar rise in -galactosidase and -mannosidase activities occurred during galactomannan breakdown in dry-isolated endosperms incubated under germination conditions. The increase could be suppressed by metabolic inhibitors which also inhibit galactomannan breakdown. Embryo homogenates contained high -galactosidase, high -mannosidase and some -mannosidase activity at all stages of germination.No oligomannosyl -1,4 phosphorylase activity could be detected either in the endosperm or in the embryo.It is concluded that the galactomannan of fenugreek is broken down by a series of hydrolases secreted by the aleurone layer of the endosperm. Summary Absorption spectra of a young and an old culture of the diatom Pheodactylum tricornutum were measured in thin layers between two opal glass sheets. The spectra at 24° and at -196°C were replotted to give equal areas from 730–625 m to allow direct comparison. At 24°C the spectrum for the difference between the two cultures had a negative component of 18 m half width centered at 675 m and a positive region of W0.5=26 m near 700 m.The spectra at -196°C may be somewhat distorted by clumping of the cells during freezing but nevertheless the 16 day culture clearly showed a smaller proportion of Ca 670 to Ca 680. This older culture has a shoulder due to a 707 m component. The difference curve at -196°C shows the decrease of an unsymmetrical band peaking at 669 m and an increase at 695 m in addition to the 707 m component. Due to the possibility of distortion, the presence of an actual component at 695 is doubtful in these particular cultures.The room temperature spectrum in the chloropyhll a region for the 5 day culture can be closely fitted by a single probability curve at 675 m having a half-width of 31 m. The sum of two components, with widths more reasonable for chlorophylls, also matched the data well enough. These two probability curves, of 22 m half width, centered on 669 and 683.2 m and had a height ratio, h669/h683 of 1.18. Conclusions An even broader theoretical conclusion is in order. The term modernization has been enshrined in the value-free literature on development which the Western academy has created and supported. But the experience of Brasov, a local manifestation of Romanian development, makes it clear that modernization is by no means confined to Western assumptions, and that it always occurs in specific ways depending on the social situation of the society undergoing change, and on the political nature of the program being adopted. In short, socialist modernization in Romania is not parallel to modernization under capitalist auspices in analogous areas.  相似文献

Recently, it has been found that plants, including tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum), express the Lewis-a epitope, Gal1,3(Fuc1,4)GlcNAc, on some N-glycans. By searching the EST database, it was possible to identify a tomato cDNA encoding a protein, designated FucTC, of 413 amino acids with homology to plant and mammalian 1,3/4-fucosyltransferases. The cDNA was expressed in Pichia pastoris and the recombinant enzyme was found to transfer fucose from GDP-Fuc (Km 16 M) to lacto-N-tetraose (Gal1,3GlcNAc1,3Gal1,4Glc; Km 80 M) as well as to 1,3- and 1,4-galactosylated N-glycans. It is concluded that FucTC is responsible for the biosynthesis of Lewis-a on N-glycans in tomato.  相似文献

A loss of sarcolemmal dystrophin was observed by immuno-fluorescence studies in rabbit hearts subjected to in situ myocardial ischemia and by immuno-blotting of the Triton soluble membrane fraction of isolated rabbit cardiomyocytes subjected to in vitro ischemia. This ischemic loss of dystrophin was a specific event in that no ischemic loss of sarcolemmal -sarcoglycan, -sarcoglycan, DG, or DG was observed. The maintenance of sarcolemmal DG (43 Kd) during ischemia was interesting in that dystrophin binds to the C-terminus of DG. However, during late in vitro ischemia, a 30 Kd band was observed that was immuno-reactive for DG. Additionally, this 30 Kd-DG band was observed in rabbit myocardium subjected to autolysis. Finally, the 30 Kd-DG was observed in the purified sarcolemmal fraction of rabbit cardiomyocytes subjected to a prolonged period of in vitro ischemia, confirming the sarcolemmal localization of this band. The potential patho-physiologic significance of this band was indicated by the appearance of this band at 120–180 min of in vitro ischemia, directly correlating with the onset of irreversible injury, as manifested by osmotic fragility. Additionally the appearance of this band was significantly reduced by the endogenous cardioprotective mechanism, in vitro ischemic preconditioning, which delays the onset of osmotic fragility. In addition to dystrophin, DG binds caveolin-3 and Grb-2 at its C-terminus. The presence of Grb-2 and caveolin-3 in the membrane fractions of oxygenated and ischemic cardiomyocytes was determined by Western blotting. An increase in the level of membrane Grb-2 and caveolin-3 was observed following ischemic preconditioning as compared to control cells. The formation of this 30 Kd-DG degradation product is potentially related to the transition from the reversible to the irreversible phase of myocardial ischemic cell injury and a decrease in 30 Kd-DG might mediate the cardioprotection provided by ischemic preconditioning.  相似文献

Unlike classical -1,4-galactosyltransferase (-1,4-GalT I), -1,4-GalT V (formerly IV*) has little activity towards 1 mM N-acetylglucosamine [Sato et al. (1998) Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 95: 472-477]. The human -1,4-GalTs I and V were expressed individually in Sf-9 cells by transfection of the full coding sequences, and their N-acetyllactosamine synthetase activities were determined towards different N-acetylglucosamine concentrations. Kinetic studies using the cell homogenates as an enzyme source revealed that -1,4-GalTs I and V possess Km values of 0.6 mM and 33 mM towards N-acetylglucosamine, and of 48 µM and 41 µM towards UDPGal, respectively. No significant inhibition of N-acetyllactosamine synthesis with -lactalbumin was observed for -1,4-GalT V but the significant inhibition with -lactalbumin was observed for -1,4-GalT I.  相似文献

The separation of light-harvesting peptides by RP-HPLC is notoriously difficult due to the typically strong interaction of peptides with the column matrix, their relatively low solubility in the mobile phase and the tendency for non-specific aggregation during sample preparation. This paper illustrates a reproducible method for investigating the composition of four spectrally different forms of LH2 isolated from Rps. palustris. The method contrasts with previous attempts to isolate peptides from these multi-LH2 complexes and uses the well characterised B800–850 complex from Rps. acidophila as a test of reliability. Three pairs of LH2 peptides, a, b and d, were identified from Rps. palustris grown under high- (7000 lux) or intermediate- (1000 lux) light conditions. At lower light (300 and 90 lux), b was absent, and the level of a was significantly reduced. Results show that a and b peptides form the high light B800-850 complex, whereas the low light LH2 complex is only composed of d peptides and resembles the B800–820 complex from Rps. acidophila by sequence homology. The absorption spectrum of this complex has a single peak centred on 800 nm and appears to be a novel LH2 complex. At low light growth conditions, this B800 species is the predominant LH2 complex in Rps. palustris and indicates that peptide expression is a crucial factor in adapting to different light intensities.  相似文献

This paper defines a four-tiered, hierarchical system for classifying subsistence production types in Nepal and uses the system to describe the subsistence communities of central Nepal. The system first divides Nepal into a grid of homogenous parts or cells, second, it divides, the cells into ridge-valley slope sequences, third, defines production types for the ridge-valley slope sequences, and, finally, distinguishes local variants of the production types. After describing these tiers, I apply these categories to the northern portions of the central and western development regions where I have done research. I then define how representatives of Nepal as a whole are the production types defined for the central and western development regions. Transmannosylation from mannotriose (Man1-4Man1-4Man) to the 4-position at the nonreducing end N-acetylglucosaminyl residue ofN,N-diacetylchitobiose was regioselectively induced through the use of -d-mannanase fromAspergillus niger. The enzyme formed the trisaccharide Man1-4GlcNAc1-4GlcNAc (3.7% of the enzyme-catalysed net decrease ofN,N-diacetylchitobiose) from mannotriose as a donor andN,N-diacetylchitobiose as an acceptor. The grass flora of Namibia (374 species in 110 genera) shows surprisingly little variation in 13C values along a rainfall gradient (50–600 mm) and in different habitat conditions. However, there are significant differences in the 13C values between the metabolic types of the C4 photosynthetic pathway. NADP-ME-type C4 species exhibit the highest 13C values (–11.7 ) and occur mainly in regions with high rainfall. NAD-ME-type C4 species have significantly lower 13C values (–13.4 ) and dominate in the most arid part of the precipitation regime. PCK-type C4 species play an intermediate role (–12.5 ) and reach a maximum abundance in areas of intermediate precipitation. This pattern is also evident in genera containing species of different metabolic types. Within the same genus NAD species reach more negative 13C values than PCK species and 13C values decreased with rainfall. Also in Aristida, with NADP-ME-type photosynthesis, 13C values decreased from –11 in the inland region (600 mm precipitation) to –15 near the coast (150 mm precipitation), which is a change in discrimination which is otherwise associated by a change in metabolism. The exceptional C3 species Eragrostis walteri and Panicum heterostachyum are coastal species experiencing 50 mm precipitation only. Many of the rare species and monotypic genera grow in moist habitats rather than in the desert, and they are not different in their carbon isotope ratios from the more common flora. The role of species diversity with respect to habitat occupation and carbon metabolism is discussed.  相似文献
