Cephalosporium acremonium was cultivated in fermentation medium containing sucrose or methyl oleate as a carbon source for cephalosporin C production. The level of antibiotic production was 48 g of cephalosporin C per liter under optimum conditions when methyl oleate was used. The C18:1 (oleic acid) methyl ester appeared to be utilized faster than the C18:2 (linoleic acid) methyl ester in fermentation broth. Physiological characteristics of C. acremonium were investigated by determining the fatty acid composition of the total cellular free lipid. Significant changes in cellular fatty acid composition occurred during inoculum cultivation and fermentation. The percentage of C18:1 increased from 19.1 to 38.5%, but the percentage of C18:2 decreased from 56.7 to 36.1%, and there was an increase in pH during inoculum cultivation. The cellular fatty acid composition of C. acremonium grown in fermentation medium containing methyl oleate (methyl oleate medium) was significantly different from that in fermentation medium containing sucrose (sucrose medium). The major fatty acids detected were C16:0 (palmitic acid), C18:1, and C18:2. In methyl oleate medium, the ratio of C18:1 to C18:2 increased from 0.34 to 1.37, while the cell morphology changed from hyphae to arthrospores and conidia. In contrast, in sucrose medium, the ratio of C18:1 to C18:2 decreased from 0.70 to 0.43, and most of the cells remained hyphal at the end of fermentation. The total surface lipids, including the wax particles, of the adult whiteflies of Bemisia tabaci and Trialeurodes vaporariorum were characterized. At eclosion, there were similar amounts of long-chain hydrocarbons, aldehydes, alcohols and wax esters. Within a few hours post-eclosion, long-chain aldehydes and long-chain alcohols were the dominant surface lipid components, C34 on B. tabaci and C32 on T. vaporariorum. Hydrocarbons, mainly n-alkanes, were minor components of the surface lipids. The major wax esters were C46 on B. tabaci and C42 on T. vaporariorum. The major acid and alcohol moieties in the wax esters of B. tabaci were C20 and C26, respectively, and of T. vaporariorum were C20 and C22, respectively. Both B. tabaci and T. vaporariorum had a minor wax ester composed of the fatty acid C18:1 esterified to the major alcohols, C34 and C32, respectively. Bemisia were readily distinguished from Trialeurodes based on the composition of their wax particles and/or their wax esters; however, no differentiating surface lipid components were detected between biotypes A and B of B. tabaci.  相似文献

The course of biosynthesis of fatty acids in the seeds of winter rape (Brassica napus L. ssp.oleifera, f.biennis cv. T?ebí?ská) was investigated. After the termination of flowering seed samples were taken at five intervals, the seeds were divided into 4 fractions according to size, and their weight, water content, oil content and fatty acid composition were determined. The oil content was found to increase in all size categories with time, with the exception of a minute drop when complete maturity is reached. Larger seeds contained more oil. The fatty acid composition changes with time in the individual size fractions almost continuously. The same holds for differences between seed sizes of the same sample. The main change in oil composition consists in the decrease of C18 acids in favour of C22 acids. Greatest decrements during maturation were found with oleic acid, less with linoleic acid. In absolute amounts the quantity of all synthesized acids rises, the greatest rise being observed with C22 acids (i.e. predominantly erucic acid). It follows from the mean rates of synthesis of the individual groups (C16, C18, C20, C22) of fatty acids that the fraction of C22 rate of synthesis increases, while that of the C18 acids decreases with the same speed. The results indicate that the fatty acid synthesis is most intense during the second half of seed maturation, the main role being played by accelerating the synthesis of higher acids, especially of erucic acid.  相似文献

选择中国北方落叶阔叶林的主要组成树种蒙古栎(Quercus mongolica Fisch.ex Ledeb.)的1年生幼苗为研究对象,设置4个酸雨酸度(重度、中度、轻度和对照)和3个降雨量(自然雨量和增、减雨量30%),以期阐明酸雨对蒙古栎幼苗形态生长、生物量和根系伤流量的影响,探讨中国北方日趋严重的酸雨是否会影响蒙古栎幼苗的生长,为酸雨区森林恢复植物的选择提供依据.研究结果显示:1)在本实验的酸雨酸度下,酸雨降雨量的增加对蒙古栎幼苗各生理生态指标均有一定的促进作用;2)酸雨酸度对蒙古栎幼苗形态和生物量的影响不显著,但酸度增加降低了幼苗的根系伤流量;3)增雨的重度酸雨处理促进了蒙古栎幼苗形态生长和生物量累积;4)两因素对蒙古栎幼苗的影响没有交互作用.说明蒙古栎对酸雨具有一定的抗性,可考虑选择为酸雨区植被构建的物种.  相似文献

The cellulolytic bacterium, Eubacterium cellulosolvens, altered its cytoplasmic membrane protein composition in response to growth on specific energy substrates. Electrophoresis profiles obtained from membrane protein fractions of cellulose-grown cells were different from that obtained from cells cultivated with other carbohydrates, such as cellobiose or glucose. In addition, [3H]palmitic acid labelling of cellulose-grown E. cellulosolvens revealed two lipoproteins that were not detected in glucose- or cellobiose-grown cultures. These lipoproteins partitioned with the membrane fraction, indicating their association with the cytoplasmic membrane. Proteinase K treatment of whole cells further suggested that these lipoproteins were exposed to the surface of the cell envelope. These membrane proteins and lipoproteins appear to be under some substrate-specific regulatory control with distinct, but as yet undetermined, roles in cellulose utilization. In addition, cellulose-grown E. cellulosolvens was found to posses a higher ratio of oleic acid (C18:1) to palmitic acid (C16:0) than cells cultivated on soluble carbohydrates. This change in the ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids was consistent with a comparative increase of membrane fluidity. Further analysis of this shift in the fatty acid profile revealed a correlation with the appearance of protruberances on the cell surface. Such a shift of fatty acid composition may indicate that the assembly and function of proteins for cellulose utilization necessitates an increase of the membrane fluidity.  相似文献

采用盆栽方法,研究了不同pH值条件下的模拟酸雨对西洋杜鹃生长及其叶片主要生理生化特征的影响。结果表明:在酸雨胁迫下,随着酸雨胁迫的增强,西洋杜鹃叶片受害程度逐渐加重;叶片丙二醛含量逐渐升高;可溶性蛋白含量先升后降;过氧化氢酶(CAT)、过氧化物酶(POD)和超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)活性均呈先升后降的单峰曲线变化,其中pH值为4.3的处理下西洋杜鹃叶片CAT和SOD活性最高,pH值为3.0的处理下其POD活性最高;其叶绿素含量逐渐下降;叶片净光合速率(Pn)、蒸腾速率(Tr)、气孔导度(Gs)及水分利用率(WUE)均呈先升后降的趋势,而胞间CO2浓度(Ci)则持续下降,pH值为4.3的处理下其Pn、Tr、Gs和WUE均达到最高。研究表明,大致可以认为pH值≤3.0是酸雨对西洋杜鹃造成隐形伤害的阀值,而酸雨灾害严重地区的降水pH值为2.0—4.0左右,说明西洋杜鹃可以在酸雨灾害较重的地区生长,可作为酸雨灾害严重地区园林绿化及植被构建的物种之一。  相似文献

The structure and composition of the cutin monomers from the flower petals of Vicia faba were determined by hydrogenolysis (LiAlH4) or deuterolysis (LiAlD4) followed by thin layer chromatography and combined gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The major components were 10, 16-dihydroxyhexadecanoic acid (79.8%), 9, 16-dihydroxyhexadecanoic acid (4.2%), 16-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid (4.2%), 18-hydroxyoctadecanoic acid (1.6%), and hexadecanoic acid (2.4%). These results show that flower petal cutin is very similar to leaf cutin of V. faba. Developing petals readily incorporated exogenous [1-14C]palmitic acid into cutin. Direct conversion of the exogeneous acid into 16-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid, 10, 16-dihydroxy-, and 9, 16-dihydroxyhexadecanoic acid was demonstrated by radio gas-liquid chromatography of their chemical degradation products. About 1% of the exogenous [1-14C]palmitic acid was incorporated into C27, C29, and C31n-alkanes, which were identified by combined gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry as the major components of the hydrocarbons of V. faba flowers. The radioactivity distribution among these three alkanes (C27, 15%; C29, 48%; C31, 38%) was similar to the per cent composition of the alkanes (C27, 12%; C29, 43%; C31, 44%). [1-14C]Stearic acid was also incorporated into C27, C29, and C31n-alkanes in good yield (3%). Trichloroacetate, which has been postulated to be an inhibitor of fatty acid elongation, inhibited the conversion of [1-14C]stearic acid to alkanes, and the inhibition was greatest for the longer alkanes. Developing flower petals also incorporated exogenous C28, C30, and C32 acids into alkanes in 0.5% to 5% yields. [G-3H]n-octacosanoic acid (C28) was incorporated into C27, C29, and C31n-alkanes. [G-3H]n-triacontanoic acid (C30) was incorporated mainly into C29 and C31 alkanes, whereas [9, 10, 11-3H]n-dotriacontanoic acid (C32) was converted mainly to C31 alkane. Trichloroacetate inhibited the conversion of the exogenous acids into alkanes with carbon chains longer than the exogenous acid, and at the same time increased the amount of the direct decarboxylation product formed. These results clearly demonstrate direct decarboxylation as well as elongation and decarboxylation of exogenous fatty acids, and thus constitute the most direct evidence thus far obtained for an elongation-decarboxylation mechanism for the biosynthesis of alkanes.  相似文献

Fatty acids were extracted from saponified vegetative cells and myxospores of Myxococcus xanthus and examined as the methyl esters by gas-liquid chromatography. The acids consisted mainly of C14 to C17 species. Branched acids predominated, and iso-pentadecanoic acid constituted half or more of the mixture. The other leading component (11–28%) was found to be 11-n-hexadecenoic acid. Among the unsaturated acids were two diunsaturated ones, an n-hexadecadienoic acid and an iso-heptadecadienoic acid. No significant differences between the fatty acid compositions of the vegetative cells and myxospores could be detected. The fatty acid composition of M. xanthus was found to be markedly similar to that of Stigmatella aurantiaca. It is suggested that a fatty acid pattern consisting of a large proportion of iso-branched C15 and C17 acids and a substantial amount of an n-16:1 acid is characteristic of myxobacteria.  相似文献

Suberin from the roots of carrots (Daucus carota), parsnip (Pastinaca sativa), rutabaga (Brassica napobrassica), turnip (Brassica rapa), red beet (Beta vulgaris), and sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) was isolated by a combination of chemical and enzymatic techniques. Finely powdered suberin was depolymerized with 14% BF3 in methanol, and soluble monomers (20-50% of suberin) were fractionated into phenolic (<10%) and aliphatic (13-35%) fractions. The aliphatic fractions consisted mainly of ω-hydroxyacids (29-43%), dicarboxylic acids (16-27%), fatty acids (4-18%), and fatty alcohols (3-6%). Each fraction was subjected to combined gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Among the fatty acids very long chain acids (>C20) were the dominant components in all six plants. In the alcohol fraction C18, C20, C22, and C24 saturated primary alcohols were the major components. C16 and C18 dicarboxylic acids were the major dicarboxylic acids of the suberin of all six plants and in all cases octadec-9-ene-1, 18-dioic acid was the major component except in rutabaga where hexadecane-1, 16-dioic acid was the major dicarboxylic acid. The composition of the ω-hydroxyacid fraction was quite similar to that of the dicarboxylic acids; 18-hydroxy-octadec-9-enoic acid was the major component in all plants except rutabaga, where equal quantities of 16-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid and 18-hydroxyoctadec-9-enoic acid (42% each) were found. Compounds which would be derived from 18-hydroxyoctadec-9-enoic acid and octadec-9-ene-1, 18-dioic acid by epoxidation, and epoxidation followed by hydration of the epoxide, were also detected in most of the suberin samples. The monomer composition of the six plants showed general similarities but quite clear taxonomic differences.  相似文献

Optimization of the fatty acid composition of ruminant milk and meat is desirable. Dietary supplementation of algae was previously shown to inhibit rumen biohydrogenation, resulting in an altered milk fatty acid profile. Bacteria involved in biohydrogenation belong to the Butyrivibrio group. This study was aimed at relating accumulation of biohydrogenation intermediates with shifts in Butyrivibrio spp. in the rumen of dairy cows. Therefore, an experiment was performed with three rumen-fistulated dairy cows receiving a concentrate containing algae (9.35 g/kg total dry matter [DM] intake) for 20 days. Supplementation of the diet with algae inhibited biohydrogenation of C18:2 omega 6 (n-6) and C18:3 n-3, resulting in increased concentrations of biohydrogenation intermediates, whereas C18:0 decreased. Addition of algae increased ruminal C18:1 trans fatty acid concentrations, mainly due to 6- and 20-fold increases in C18:1 trans 11 (t11) and C18:1 t10. The number of ciliates (5.37 log copies/g rumen digesta) and the composition of the ciliate community were unaffected by dietary algae. In contrast, supplementation of the diet with algae changed the composition of the bacterial community. Primers for the Butyrivibrio group, including the genera Butyrivibrio and Pseudobutyrivibrio, were specifically designed. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis showed community changes upon addition of algae without affecting the total amount of Butyrivibrio bacteria (7.06 log copies/g rumen DM). Clone libraries showed that algae affected noncultivated species, which cluster taxonomically between the genera Butyrivibrio and Pseudobutyrivibrio and might play a role in biohydrogenation. In addition, 20% of the clones from a randomly selected rumen sample were related to the C18:0-producing branch, although the associated C18:0 concentration decreased through supplementation of the diet with algae.  相似文献

The fatty acid compositions of the lipids and the lipid peroxide concentrations and rates of lipid peroxidation were determined in suspensions of liver endoplasmic reticulum isolated from rats fed on synthetic diets in which the fatty acid composition had been varied but the remaining constituents (protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals) kept constant. Stock diet and synthetic diets containing no fat, 10% corn oil, herring oil, coconut oil or lard were used. The fatty acid composition of the liver endoplasmic reticulum lipid was markedly dependent on the fatty acid composition of the dietary lipid. Feeding a herring-oil diet caused incorporation of 8.7% eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5) and 17% docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6), but only 5.1% linoleic acid (C18:2) and 6.4% arachidonic acid (C20:4), feeding a corn-oil diet caused incorporation of 25.1% C18:2, 17.8% C20:4 and 2.5% C22:6 fatty acids, and feeding a lard diet caused incorporation of 10.3% C18:2, 13.5% C20:4 and 4.3% C22:6 fatty acids into the liver endoplasmic-reticulum lipids. Phenobarbitone injection (100mg/kg) decreased the incorporation of C20:4 and C22:6 fatty acids into the liver endoplasmic reticulum of rats fed on a lard, corn-oil or herring-oil diet. Microsomal lipid peroxide concentrations and rates of peroxidation in the presence of ascorbate depended on the nature and quantity of the polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet. The lipid peroxide content was 1.82±0.30nmol of malonaldehyde/mg of protein and the rate of peroxidation was 0.60±0.08nmol of malonaldehyde/min per mg of protein after feeding a fat-free diet, and the values were increased to 20.80nmol of malonaldehyde/mg of protein and 3.73nmol of malonaldehyde/min per mg of protein after feeding a 10% herring-oil diet in which polyunsaturated fatty acids formed 24% of the total fatty acids. Addition of α-tocopherol to the diets (120mg/kg of diet) caused a very large decrease in the lipid peroxide concentration and rate of lipid peroxidation in the endoplasmic reticulum, but addition of the synthetic anti-oxidant 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol to the diet (100mg/kg of diet) was ineffective. Treatment of the animals with phenobarbitone (1mg/ml of drinking water) caused a sharp fall in the rate of lipid peroxidation. It is concluded that the polyunsaturated fatty acid composition of the diet regulates the fatty acid composition of the liver endoplasmic reticulum, and this in turn is an important factor controlling the rate and extent of lipid peroxidation in vitro and possibly in vivo.  相似文献

Burkholderia multivorans causes opportunistic pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis and immunocompromised patients. The purpose of the present study was to determine the nature of the phospholipids and their fatty acid constituents comprising the cell envelope membranes of strains isolated from three disparate sources. A conventional method for obtaining the readily extractable lipids fraction from bacteria was employed to obtain membrane lipids for thin-layer chromatographic and gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometric analyses. Major fatty acid components of the B. multivorans readily extractable lipid fractions included C16:0 (palmitic acid), C16:1 (palmitoleic acid), and C18:1 (oleic acid), while C14:0 (myristic acid), ΔC17:0 (methylene hexadecanoic acid), C18:0 (stearic acid), and ΔC19:0 (methylene octadecanoic acid) were present in lesser amounts. Fatty acid composition differed quantitatively among strains with regard to C16:0, C16:1, ΔC17:0, C18:1, and ΔC19:0 with the unsaturated:saturated fatty acid ratios being significantly less in a cystic fibrosis type strain than either environmental or chronic granulomatous disease strains. Phospholipids identified in all B. multivorans strains included lyso-phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and diphosphatidylglycerol in similar ratios. These data support the conclusion that the cell envelope phospholipid profiles of disparate B. multivorans strains are similar, while their respective fatty acyl substituent profiles differ quantitatively under identical cultivation conditions.  相似文献

Ruta graveotens subshrubs, known to contain a large fractionof their furanocoumarins on the leaf surface, were used forinvestigation of salt and acid rain effects on the plant surfaceand substances occurring there. Groups of shoots on each plantcovered by plastic bags were sprayed with either sulphuric acid,pII 2.5, saturated sodium chloride solution, or a distilledwater control. Uncovered shoots, an additional control, hadthe highest concentrations of furanocoumarins both on the surfaceand in the whole leaf. The upper leaves contained less furanocoumarinsin absolute amounts but were similar to the lower leaves ona percentage basis. Spraying caused a decrease in total furanocoumarinconcentrations, slight in the case of distilled water and greaterfor acid and salt, but the percentage on the surface after sprayingincreased. The upper and lower leaves reacted differently tosalt than to sulphuric acid and water: with salt, the percentagesof furanocoumarins on the surface of both kinds of leaves showedsimilar increases; with the other two sprays, upper leaves showeda similar increase, but the lower leaves had a much higher percentageon the surface owing to a high rate of extrusion. The effect of growth medium NaCl concentration on the fatty acid composition of phospholipids of 3 strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and 6 osmotolerant yeast strains was examined. The S. cerevisiae strains were characterized by a high content of palmitoleic (C16:1) acid and by having no polyunsaturated C18 acids, whereas the osmotolerant strains had a low content of C16:1 and a high proportion of polyenoic C18 acids. An increase of the NaCl concentration from 0% to 8% resulted in a decrease of the cellular phospholipid content on a dry-weight basis, for all strains but one of the osmotolerant strains. For the S. cerevisiae strains increased salinity produced a slight decrease of the proportion of C16 fatty acids with a concomitant increase of C18 acids, whereas the osmotolerant strains showed an increase of the relative content of oleic acid (C18:1) at the expense of the proportion of polyenoic C18 acids.  相似文献

Two different mutations in Brassica oleracea, gl5 and gl4 have been re-investigated using acetate-1-14C labelling in an attempt to define more closely the nature of the genetic blocks to wax synthesis. It has been found that gl5 is a mutation which blocks elongation in the Step C28–C30. The mutation gl4 exhibits no elongation block and could be blocked in the decarboxylation Step C30–C29. 0·1 mM TCA supplied in the culture solution of cauliflower seedlings affected the leaf surface by producing a glossy appearance similar to that induced by gl3 and gl4. At this concentration growth was not inhibited and the appearance of the plants was normal except for the surface wax. The amount of surface wax produced was about 40% of that in untreated seedlings on a leaf area basis. Slight, but significant changes in wax composition were noted, mainly involving a reduction in C30 acids and aldehydes, a slight reduction (33–29%) in alkane content, and a marked difference in chain length composition of the alkanes with C27 increased relative to C29. Over a range of concentrations from 0·1–1 mM, TCA inhibited incorporation of label from acetate-1-14C into C30 acids and aldehydes more than into C28 at concentrations 0·4–0·8 mM while label tended to accumulate in C24 and C26 acids; thus elongation C28–C30 was especially sensitive to TCA. TCA also inhibited incorporation into primary alcohols and esters almost as much as into C29 compounds. In spite of relatively specific effects on incorporation of label into longer chain lengths, the resulting block to C30 synthesis is not sufficient to make much difference to the overall rate of C29 synthesis. Both results of analysis of wax from whole plants and experiments with tissue slices in vitro indicated that the effect of TCA in reducing the glaucousness of the leaf surface is a combination of overall reduction of wax synthesis together with slight but significant changes in wax composition.  相似文献

Changes in glycerolipid and fatty acid composition with a change in growth temperature were studied in the cyanobacterium, Synechocystis PCC6803. Under isothermal growth conditions, temperature did not significantly affect the composition of the various classes of lipids, but a decrease in temperature altered the degree of unsaturation of C18 acids at the sn-1 position, but not that of C16 acids at the sn-2 position of the glycerol moiety in each class of lipids. When the growth temperature was shifted from 38°C to 22°C, the desaturation of C18 acids, but not that of C16 acids, was stimulated. The desaturation of fatty acids occurred only in the light and was inhibited by chloramphenicol, rifampicin and 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1, 1-dimethylurea, but not by cerulenin, an inhibitor for fatty acid synthesis. These findings suggest that desaturase activities are induced after a shift from a higher to a lower temperature, and that the desaturation of fatty acids is connected with the reactions involved in photosynthetic electron transport.  相似文献

The fatty acid pattern in hydrocarbon- and ketone-utilizing bacteria after growth on various substrates was examined. The fatty acid composition of one hydrocarbon-utilizing organism (Mycobacterium sp. strain OFS) was investigated in detail after growth on n-alkanes, 1-alkenes, ketones, and n-alcohols. n-Alkanes shorter than C13 or longer than C17 were not incorporated into cellular fatty acids without some degradation. Strain OFS incorporated C14 to C17 1-alkenes into cellular fatty acids as the ω-monoenoic fatty acid. Methyl ketones were incorporated into strain OFS after removal of one- or two-carbon fragments from the carbonyl end of the molecule. An organism isolated by enrichment on methyl ketones was incapable of n-alkane utilization but could grow on, although not incorporate, ketones or long chain n-alcohols into cellular fatty acids.  相似文献

The functions of two long-chain fatty acid CoA ligase genes (facl) in crude oil-degrading Geobacillus thermodenitrificans NG80-2 were characterized. Facl1 and Facl2 encoded by GTNG_0892 and GTNG_1447 were expressed in Escherichia coli and purified as His-tagged fusion proteins. Both enzymes utilized a broad range of fatty acids ranging from acetic acid (C2) to melissic acid (C30). The most preferred substrates were capric acid (C10) for Facl1 and palmitic acid (C16) for Facl2, respectively. Both enzymes had an optimal temperature of 60 °C, an optimal pH of 7.5, and required ATP as a cofactor. Thermostability of the enzymes and effects of metal ions, EDTA, SDS and Triton X-100 on the enzyme activity were also investigated. The impacts of water deficit and melamine salt of bis(oximethyl)phosphonic acid (melaphen) on the fatty acid (FA) composition of membrane lipids and energy metabolism in mitochondria of 5-day-old pea (Pisum sativum L., cv. Flora-2) seedlings were studied. Insufficient watering resulted in the accumulation of saturated and a decrease in the content of unsaturated FAs with 18 and 20 carbon atoms. Seed treatment with 3 × 10?10 M melaphen prevented these changes in the FA composition in the mitochondrial membrane lipids. Changes in the FA compositions of membrane lipids were correlated with changes in energy metabolism in mitochondria: the efficiency of oxidative phosphorylation and the rate of NAD-dependent substrate oxidation in the presence of ADP and FCCP (carbonyl cyanide-p-trifluoromethoxyphenylhydrazone) were reduced. A close correlation was observed between changes in the highest rates of NAD-dependent substrate oxidation and the relative content of FAs with 18 (r = 0.76489) and 20 (r = 0.9637) carbon atoms. The regulatory role of C18 and C20 unsaturated FAs in the mitochondrial energy metabolism of pea seedlings is discussed.  相似文献

In order to correlate sintomatology with anatomical alterations caused by acid rain in leaves of tropical species, seedlings and saplings of Spondias dulcis Forst. F., Mimosa artemisiana Heringer and Paula and Gallesia integrifolia (Spreng.) Harms were exposed to simulated low-pH acid rain (pH 3.0). Control plants were submitted only to rain with distilled water (pH 6.0). The plants were exposed daily to the acid rain for 20 min for 10 consecutive days. Necrotic spots on the leaf blade occurred and most of the injuries onset on the epidermis in all species studied. S. dulcis displayed epicuticular wax erosion and rupture of epidermis. The abaxial surface of M. artemisiana was colonized by a mass of fungi hyphae and stomatal outer ledge rupture occurred. Some epidermal cells of G. integrifolia showed appearance similar to plasmolysis. The plants accumulated phenolic compounds in necrotic areas. Afterwards, leaves presented injuries in the mesophyll and collapsed completely. Cells surrounding the injured areas accumulated starch grains in S. dulcis. M. artemisiana showed more drastic symptom intensity in response to acidic rain. S. dulcis displayed visual symptoms similar to G. integrifolia, however, anatomical alterations were more severe.  相似文献
