A new peltate Hydrocotyle (Umbelliferae) from northern Peru

A new peltate-leaved, tuberculate-fruitedHydrocotyle, that occurs in evergreen tropical montane forest in the vicinity of waterfalls, is described from northern Peru.     

Pleurospermum tripartitum sp. nov. (Umbelliferae) from western Yunnan,China

Pleurospermum tripartitum Pu, R. Li & H. Li, a new species of Umbelliferae from western Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. It is closely similar to P. macrochlaenum K. T. Fu & Y. C. Ho, but differs by having unbranched stem, conspicuous calyx teeth, and white petals.     

Ligusticum gongshanense sp. nov. (Umbelliferae) from western Yunnan,China

Ligusticum gongshanense Pu, R. Li & H. Li, a new species of Umbelliferae from western Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. It is closely similar to L. franchetii H. de Boissieu, but differs by having unbranched and light yellow stem, white petals, and styles shorter than stylopodium.     

Two new species of Cymopterus (Umbelliferae) from western North America

Two species ofCymopterus are described as new:Cymopterus douglassi from the Lost River and Lemhi ranges of central Idaho and the closely relatedC. williamsii from the southern half of the Big Horn Mountains, Wyoming. Both are diploid on the basex=11 and occur on calcareous or dolomitic substrates. The mature fruit ofCymopterus williamsii differ from those ofC. douglassii in the absence of a functioning carpophore and in having 1, not 3–5 oil tubes in the intervals. Both species are unusual in the genus, though not unique, in that the dorsal ribs of the mericarps are not winged.     

Ferulago trojana (Umbelliferae), a new species from western Turkey

Somatic chromosomes of four species of Ceratozamia , C. hildae , C. kuesteriana , C. mexicana and C. norstogii , and Stangeria eriopus , were observed and compared by the fluorescence in situ hybridization method using 5S ribosomal (rDNA) probes. The four Ceratozamia species and S. eriopus showed the same chromosome number of 2 n  = 16, and had similar karyotypes, comprising 12 metacentric (m), two submetacentric (sm) chromosomes and two telocentric (t) chromosomes. The four Ceratozamia species exhibited a proximal 5S rDNA site in the interstitial region of two m chromosomes. Stangeria eriopus exhibited a distal 5S rDNA site in the interstitial region of two m chromosomes, which probably indicates that the two genera differ in chromosome structure by at least one paracentric inversion. © 2004 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2004, 145 , 499–504.     

A new species of Chirita (Gesneriaceae) from Yunnan,China

A new species of Gesneriaceae, Chirita maguanensis Z.Y.Li, H.Jiang & H.Xu, is described from Southern Yunnan, China. It is similar to C. eburnea Hance in its large, fleshy, white and parallel‐veined bracts, but differs by having broad and oblique leaves with a repand–crenate or crenate margin, suborbicular bracts, membranous, white calyx, purple corolla‐tube, 2‐parted lower lip of stigma and lower disc. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2008, 158 , 269–273.     

A new species of Calanthe (Orchidaceae) from Yunnan, China

A new species of Orchidaceae, Calanthe fugongensis X. H. Jin & S. C. Chen, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically reminiscent of C. hancockii Rolfe, from which it differs by having hamate lateral lobes, and an elliptical middle lobe with three rectangular lamellae.

A new species of cymopterus (Umbelliferae) from northwestern Wyoming

Cymopterus evertii, from Park and Hot Springs counties, Wyoming, is described as new. It appears to be a derivative taxon from what has been calledC. bipinnatus. Data are presented justifying the relegation of the latter name to synonymy underC. nivalis. A key is provided for distinguishingC. evertii from its presumed closest relatives.     

A new species of Cymopterus (Umbelliferae) from southern Idaho

A new species,Cymopterus davisii, from alpine areas in the Albion Mountains of extreme south-central Idaho, is described. It has been confused withC. nivalis, with which it is compared. The fruit ofC. davisii are subterete to somewhat compressed laterally and, contrary to the literature, correspond closely to those ofC. nivalis and related species.     

A distinctive new species of Viola (Violaceae) from Yunnan, China

A new species of Viola (Violaceae) from north-western Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. Viola dimorphophylla Y. S. Chen & Q. E. Yang sp. nov. is endemic to Zhongdian County, north-western Yunnan, and is very easily distinguishable from all other Chinese species of the genus by having obviously dimorphic leaves, with the basal ones being long petiolate, undivided and widely cordate, and the cauline ones sessile, linear and verticillate.  © 2005 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2005, 149 , 115–119.
