Microcomputers can greatly enhance information processing by clinicians and improve the quality of health care. We surveyed 983 full- and part-time faculty members to assess the state of microcomputer use in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ont. The ratio of faculty members to microcomputers was close to 1; however, 29% of the full-time and 52% of the part-time members who responded indicated that they did not use a computer. Among those who did, the range of applications was generally limited. There was no mention of more advanced uses such as diagnosis, treatment and patient records. Only about 30% of the respondents had taken a computer course, but all indicated a desire to take courses (on average, three of the seven listed in the questionnaire). Our results showed an extensive but unequal distribution of microcomputers and revealed the need for planning and education to put them to optimal use.  相似文献

A variety of resistance training interventions are used to improve field sport acceleration (e.g., free sprinting, weights, plyometrics, resisted sprinting). The effects these protocols have on acceleration performance and components of sprint technique have not been clearly defined in the literature. This study assessed 4 common protocols (free sprint training [FST], weight training [WT], plyometric training [PT], and resisted sprint training [RST]) for changes in acceleration kinematics, power, and strength in field sport athletes. Thirty-five men were divided into 4 groups (FST: n = 9; WT: n = 8; PT: n = 9; RST: n = 9) matched for 10-m velocity. Training involved two 60-minute sessions per week for 6 weeks. After the interventions, paired-sample t-tests identified significant (p ≤ 0.05) within-group changes. All the groups increased the 0- to 5-m and 0- to 10-m velocity by 9-10%. The WT and PT groups increased the 5- to 10-m velocity by approximately 10%. All the groups increased step length for all distance intervals. The FST group decreased 0- to 5-m flight time and step frequency in all intervals and increased 0- to 5-m and 0- to 10-m contact time. Power and strength adaptations were protocol specific. The FST group improved horizontal power as measured by a 5-bound test. The FST, PT, and RST groups all improved reactive strength index derived from a 40-cm drop jump, indicating enhanced muscle stretch-shortening capacity during rebound from impacts. The WT group increased absolute and relative strength measured by a 3-repetition maximum squat by approximately 15%. Step length was the major limiting sprint performance factor for the athletes in this study. Correctly administered, each training protocol can be effective in improving acceleration. To increase step length and improve acceleration, field sport athletes should develop specific horizontal and reactive power.  相似文献

AIM: To assess the relation between islet cell antibody (ICA) positivity and demographic characteristics in an extensive series of first-degree relatives of children with type 1 diabetes (T1D). METHODS: Family members of children diagnosed with T1D before the age of 16 years and attending one of 27 participating paediatric units in Finland taking care of children with diabetes were invited to volunteer for an ICA screening program aimed at identifying individuals eligible for inclusion in the European Nicotinamide Diabetes Intervention Trial (ENDIT). The final series comprised 2,522 first-degree relatives (1,107 males) with a mean age of 20.4 (range 0.1-51.9) years, out of whom 390 were fathers, 622 mothers, 717 brothers, and 793 sisters of affected cases. RESULTS: Two hundred and four family members (8.1%) tested positive for ICA with levels ranging from 3 to 564 (median 18) Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDF) units. One hundred and five relatives (4.2%) had an ICA level of 18 JDF units or more. Males had detectable ICA more often than females (9.6 vs. 6.9%; p = 0.02). Antibody-positive family members under the age of 20 years had higher ICA levels than the older ones [median 18 (range 3-514) JDF units vs. 10 (range 3-564) JDF units; p = 0.008]. Among the adult relatives (>or=20 years of age) antibody-positive females had higher ICA levels than the males [median 10 (range 5-564) JDF units vs. 9 (range 3-130) JDF units; p = 0.04]. Siblings had an increased frequency of high-titre ICA (>or=18 JDF units) when compared to the parents (4.8 vs. 3.2%; p = 0.05). Among siblings, we found a higher frequency of ICA positivity in brothers than in sisters (10.8 vs. 6.9%; p = 0.01), and this was also true for high-titre ICA (6.0 vs. 3.8 %; p = 0.04). Geographically, the highest ICA prevalence was seen among relatives living in the middle of Finland (10.4 vs. 7.2% in the other parts of Finland; p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: These results imply that male gender and young age favour positive ICA reactivity among family members of children with T1D. Siblings test positive for high ICA titres (>or=18 JDF units) more frequently than parents. Accordingly, judged from demographic characteristics, the yield of ICA screening in first-degree relatives would be maximized by targeting young brothers of affected cases.  相似文献

Presynaptic inhibition (PSI) has been shown to modulate several neuronal pathways of functional relevance by selectively gating the connections between sensory inputs and spinal motoneurons, thereby regulating the contribution of the stretch reflex circuitry to the ongoing motor activity. In this study, we investigated whether a differential regulation of Ia afferent inflow by PSI may be associated with the performance of two types of plantarflexion sensoriomotor tasks. The subjects (in a seated position) controlled either: 1) the force level exerted by the foot against a rigid restraint (force task, FT); or 2) the angular position of the ankle when sustaining inertial loads (position task, PT) that required the same level of muscle activation observed in FT. Subjects were instructed to maintain their force/position at target levels set at ~10% of maximum isometric voluntary contraction for FT and 90° for PT, while visual feedback of the corresponding force/position signals were provided. Unconditioned H-reflexes (i.e. control reflexes) and H-reflexes conditioned by electrical pulses applied to the common peroneal nerve with conditioning-to-test intervals of 21 ms and 100 ms (corresponding to D1 and D2 inhibitions, respectively) were evoked in a random fashion. A significant main effect for the type of the motor task (FT vs PT) (p = 0.005, η2 p = 0.603) indicated that PTs were undertaken with lower levels of Ia PSI converging onto the soleus motoneuron pool. Additionally, a significant interaction between the type of inhibition (D1 vs D2) and the type of motor task (FT vs PT) (p = 0.038, η2 p = 0.395) indicated that D1 inhibition was associated with a significant reduction in PSI levels from TF to TP (p = 0.001, η2 p = 0.731), whereas no significant difference between the tasks was observed for D2 inhibition (p = 0.078, η2 p = 0.305). These results suggest that D1 and D2 inhibitions of the soleus H-reflex are differentially modulated during the performance of plantarflexion FT and PT. The reduced level of ongoing PSI during PT suggests that, in comparison to FT, there is a larger reliance on inputs from muscle spindles primary afferents when the neuromuscular system is required to maintain position-controlled plantarflexion contractions.  相似文献

Previous studies have demonstrated increases in peak torque (PT) and decreases in acceleration time (ACC) after only 2 days of resistance training, and other studies have reported improvements in isokinetic performance after 5 days of creatine supplementation. Consequently, there may be a combined benefit of creatine supplementation and short-term resistance training for eliciting rapid increases in muscle strength, which may be important for short-term rehabilitation and return-to-play for previously injured athletes. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to examine the effects of 3 days of isokinetic resistance training combined with 8 days of creatine monohydrate supplementation on PT, mean power output (MP), ACC, surface electromyography (EMG), and mechanomyography (MMG) of the vastus lateralis muscle during maximal concentric isokinetic leg extension muscle actions. Twenty-five men (mean age +/- SD = 21 +/- 3 years, stature = 177 +/- 6 cm, and body mass = 80 +/- 12 kg) volunteered to participate in this 9-day, double-blind, placebo-controlled study and were randomly assigned to either the creatine (CRE; n = 13) or placebo (PLA; n = 12) group. The CRE group ingested the treatment drink (280 kcal; 68 g carbohydrate; 10.5 g creatine), whereas the PLA group received an isocaloric placebo (70 g carbohydrate). Two servings per day (morning and afternoon) were administered in the laboratory on days 1-6, with only 1 serving on days 7-8. Before (pre; day 1) and after (post; day 9) the resistance training, maximal voluntary concentric isokinetic leg extensions at 30, 150, and 270 degrees x s(-1) were performed on a calibrated Biodex System 3 dynamometer. Three sets of 10 repetitions at 150 degrees x s(-1) were performed on days 3, 5, and 7. Peak torque increased (p = 0.005; eta(2) = 0.296), whereas ACC decreased (p < 0.001; eta(2) = 0.620), from pretraining to posttraining for both the CRE and PLA groups at each velocity (30, 150, and 270 degrees x s(-1)). Peak torque increased by 13% and 6%, whereas ACC decreased by 42% and 34% for the CRE and PLA groups, respectively, but these differences were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). There were no changes in MP, EMG, or MMG amplitude; however, EMG median frequency (MDF) increased, and MMG MDF increased at 30 degrees x s(-1), from pretraining to posttraining for both the CRE and PLA groups. These results indicated that 3 days of isokinetic resistance training was sufficient to elicit small, but significant, improvements in peak strength (PT) and ACC for both the CRE and PLA groups. Although the greater relative improvements in PT and ACC for the CRE group were not statistically significant, these findings may be useful for rehabilitation or strength and conditioning professionals who may need to rapidly increase the strength of a patient or athlete within 9 days.  相似文献

From October 1986 to January 1987, feces from 119 Caiman yacare and 12 Caiman latirostris were collected in Paraguay and later examined for coccidian oocysts; 69 of 119 (58%) samples from C. yacare and 3 of 12 (25%) samples from C. latirostris contained coccidian oocysts. Two eimerians infected C. yacare and both are described as new species. Sporulated oocysts of Eimeria paraguayensis n. sp. are ellipsoid, 34.0 x 23.6 (26-38 x 20-29) microns with sporocysts ovoid, 14.0 x 7.1 (10-19 x 6-10) microns. Sporulated oocysts of Eimeria caimani n. sp. are spheroid, 22.4 (19-29) microns with sporocysts ovoidal, 12.9 x 6.5 (8-17 x 5-8) microns. Isospora jacarei infected C. latirostris and is redescribed. Sporulated oocysts of I. jacarei are sub-spheroid, 13.2 x 12.1 (10-18 x 10-15) microns with sporocysts ellipsoid, 10.4 x 5.8 (7-13 x 4-11) microns. To date, members of the Eimeriidae found in Crocodylia include 5 species of Eimeria and 2 of Isospora including the new species described here.  相似文献

Activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) and prothrombin time (PT) are clinical tests commonly used to screen for coagulation-factor deficiencies. One genome-wide association study (GWAS) has been reported previously for aPTT, but no GWAS has been reported for PT. We conducted a GWAS and meta-analysis to identify genetic loci for aPTT and PT. The GWAS for aPTT was conducted in 9,240 individuals of European ancestry from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study, and the GWAS for PT was conducted in 2,583 participants from the Genetic Study of Three Population Microisolates in South Tyrol (MICROS) and the Lothian Birth Cohorts (LBC) of 1921 and 1936. Replication was assessed in 1,041 to 3,467 individuals. For aPTT, previously reported associations with KNG1, HRG, F11, F12, and ABO were confirmed. A second independent association in ABO was identified and replicated (rs8176704, p = 4.26 × 10(-24)). Pooling the ARIC and replication data yielded two additional loci in F5 (rs6028, p = 3.22 × 10(-9)) and AGBL1 (rs2469184, p = 3.61 × 10(-8)). For PT, significant associations were identified and confirmed in F7 (rs561241, p = 3.71 × 10(-56)) and PROCR/EDEM2 (rs2295888, p = 5.25 × 10(-13)). Assessment of existing gene expression and coronary artery disease (CAD) databases identified associations of five of the GWAS loci with altered gene expression and two with CAD. In summary, eight genetic loci that account for ~29% of the variance in aPTT and two loci that account for ~14% of the variance in PT were detected and supported by functional data.  相似文献

We have investigated the effect of elastase and alkaline protease from Pseudomonas aeruginosa on airway secretion into the trachea of anesthetized cats and from human bronchial mucosa in vitro. Secretory macromolecules were radiolabeled biosynthetically with two precursors in the cat, [3H]glucose and [35S]sulfate, and with [35S]-sulfate only in human tissue. Both enzymes (2.6 x 10(-9) to 1.3 x 10(-6)M elastase and 8 x 10(-9) to 2.4 x 10(-6)M alkaline protease) released radiolabeled macromolecules in a concentration-dependent manner from the two preparations. Purified elastase, 1.3 x 10(-6)M, released radiolabeled macromolecules (delta 3H = +397 +/- 72%, delta 35S 225 +/- 40% over control, P less than 0.001) and periodic acid-Schiff- (PAS) reactive glycoconjugates (delta PAS = +4.1 +/- 0.96 micrograms/min or +102 +/- 20%; P less than 0.01) from cat trachea, as did alkaline protease, 2.4 x 10(-6)M (delta 3H = +356 +/- 57%, delta 35S = +176 +/- 25%, delta PAS = +7.5 +/- 1.3 micrograms/min or 194 +/- 36%, P less than 0.001). Increases in 3H exceeded those of 35S, suggesting surface epithelium as the main source of secretion. Inhibition of enzyme activity abolished secretory effects. Melanotransferrin, also named p97, belongs to the transferrin-like group of iron-binding proteins. Unlike the other members of this family, p97 exists in two forms-one soluble form and one attached to the cell membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor. The GPI-linked form plays a role in the uptake of iron, while the soluble form of p97 has the unique ability of traversing the blood-brain barrier and may be utilized to deliver drug conjugates into the brain. To investigate these possibilities, a recombinant soluble form of p97 from the GPI-linked p97 protein is required. The approach involved sequential deletions of the p97 GPI pre-anchor sequence (PAS) up to the putative site of cleavage/attachment, releasing p97 from attachment to the GPI-anchor and rendering it soluble. Transfection of the p97 deletion constructs into both the CHO and BHK TK(-) cells was performed with the aim of optimizing the production of p97 by utilizing the cell characteristics unique to each cell line. Altering the GPI PAS resulted in the generation of a recombinant soluble form that was secreted at significantly higher rates than from the full-length expressing cell lines. Increases were from 22 x 10(-9) to 241 x 10(-9)microg/cell/h for expression in the CHO cell system and from 220 x 10(-9) to 4970 x 10(-9)microg/cell/h for the BHK system. Furthermore, there appeared to be differences in the secretion rates between the various deletions suggesting the need for closer examination of the C-terminus in achieving maximum production of the altered proteins. The results of this study are likely applicable for expressing soluble forms of other GPI-linked proteins.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE--To examine the CD4 count and its near term changes relative to progression to AIDS within 30 months and to subsequent CD4 counts. DESIGN--Longitudinal clinical and laboratory study. SETTING--Haemophilia treatment centres in six large American cities. PATIENTS--555 people with congenital clotting disorders who were infected with HIV, initially without AIDS, and seen at follow up for 6-30 months in 1986-9. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES--Absolute CD4 counts and incidence of AIDS. RESULTS--Outset CD4 count and age were independently related to progression to AIDS (p less than 0.0001 and p less than 0.005 respectively). Patients with CD4 counts of 0.30-0.49 x 10(9) cells/l had an age adjusted risk of AIDS within 30 months of only 9% that of patients with counts less than 0.20 x 10(9)/l. Children under 10 years old had only 16% of the CD4 adjusted risk of AIDS of people aged greater than or equal to 45 years. Analysis of 149 patients'' CD4 counts at the beginning and end of two successive six month intervals showed an average decrease of 11% in each six months regardless of the outset count (greater than or equal to 0.20 x 10(9)/l). For individual patients the decrease in the second six month period was unaffected by the decrease in the first six month period. CONCLUSIONS--Antiviral treatment of asymptomatic people, particularly children, with CD4 counts greater than or equal to 0.3 x 10(9)/l is questionable if predicted on near term progression to AIDS. Because of individual CD4 count variability and the low rate of progression to AIDS near term declines in individual CD4 counts are a poor index for identifying people who will rapidly progress to AIDS.  相似文献

We compared the survival of patients following the first AIDS event in Croatia from the period 1986-1996 to the period 1997-2000. A total of 72 (81.8%) out of 88 patients from 1986-1996 and 18 (32.1%) out of 56 from 1997-2000 died. Survival following the first AIDS-defining illness markedly improved in the period 1997-2000 compared to the period 1986-1996 (adjusted Hazard Ratio (HR) for patients surviving more than 6 months: 0.11, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) = 0.04-0.29). A CD4+ cell count of < 100 x 10(6)/L was an independent risk factor for patients surviving up to 2 years (adjusted HR = 1.96, 95% CI = 1.1-3.43, p = 0.02). Patients with tuberculosis or fungal infections had a longer survival when compared to other diagnosis (adjusted HR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.32-0.90, p = 0.01). However, despite dramatic survival benefit of combination antiretroviral therapy, mortality at six months following the first AIDS event was similar in the two study periods and the one-year probability of death was still substantial (27.2%) in the period 1997-2000.  相似文献

A number of applications of analysis of human Y-chromosome microsatellite loci to human evolution and forensic science require reliable estimates of the mutation rate and knowledge of the mutational mechanism. We therefore screened a total of 4,999 meioses from father/son pairs with confirmed paternity (probability >/=99. 9%) at 15 Y-chromosomal microsatellite loci and identified 14 mutations. The locus-specific mutation-rate estimates were 0-8. 58x10-3, and the average mutation rate estimates were 3.17x10-3 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.89-4.94x10-3) across 8 tetranucleotide microsatellites and 2.80x10-3 (95% CI 1.72-4.27x10-3) across all 15 Y-chromosomal microsatellites studied. Our data show a mutational bias toward length increase, on the basis of observation of more repeat gains than losses (10:4). The data are in almost complete agreement with the stepwise-mutation model, with 13 single-repeat changes and 1 double-repeat change. Sequence analysis revealed that all mutations occurred in uninterrupted homogenous arrays of >/=11 repeats. We conclude that mutation rates and characteristics of human Y-chromosomal microsatellites are consistent with those of autosomal microsatellites. This indicates that the general mutational mechanism of microsatellites is independent of recombination.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To study the association between apolipoprotein E (apoE) genotype and the rate of decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in type 2 diabetic patients in a 9-year prospective study. METHODS: GFR was determined in 84 type 2 diabetic patients by plasma clearance of (51)Cr-EDTA at baseline and after 9 years of follow-up. ApoE genotypes were determined by polymerase chain reaction and restriction enzyme HHAI digestion and designated as epsilon4 allele group (apoE4/2, 4/3 and 4/4 genotypes; n = 20) and non-epsilon4 allele group (apoE3/3 and E3/2 genotypes; n = 64). We focused our analysis on those patients who were more likely to progress to diabetic renal disease, i.e. whose GFR fell more than expected in the normal course of ageing [1 ml x min(-1) x (1.73 m(2))(-1) per year]. RESULTS: In the whole population, the decline in the GFR did not differ statistically significantly between the apoE genotype groups [p = 0.65 with analysis of variance for repeated variables (RANOVA) for interaction between apoE genotype group and time point]. However, among patients whose GFR changed more than 9 ml x min(-1) x (1.73 m(2))(-1), GFR showed a statistically significantly greater decline in the epsilon4 allele group (n = 11) than in the non-epsilon4 allele group (n = 43) [from 116 +/- 36 to 80 +/- 29 ml x min(-1) x (1.73 m(2))(-1) vs. from 119 +/- 20 to 96 +/- 18 ml x min(-1) x (1.73 m(2))(-1); p = 0.005 with RANOVA]. CONCLUSION: ApoE allele epsilon4 may speed up the rate of decline of the GFR in patients with progressive diabetic renal disease.  相似文献

alpha-Factor, a secreted tridecapeptide pheromone, is required for mating between the a- and alpha-haploid mating types of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. An analogue of alpha-factor, [DHP8,DHP11,Nle12] tridecapeptide (where DHP represents 3,4-dehydro-L-proline and Nle represents norleucine), was catalytically reduced in the presence of 3H gas to produce a radiolabeled pheromone with high specific activity, purity, and biological activity. Association and dissociation kinetics indicated values of 4.9 x 10(4) M-1 s-1 for k1 and 1.1 x 10(-3) s-1 for k-1. Saturation binding studies gave an equilibrium dissociation constant equal to 2.3 x 10(-8) M, which approximated the kinetically derived KD of 2.2 x 10(-8) M. These values compare favorably to the previously determined KD of 6 x 10(-9) M (Jenness, D.D., Burkholder, A.C., and Hartwell, L.H. (1986) Mol. Cell. Biol. 6, 318-320). Scatchard analysis and dissociation in the presence of excess unlabeled ligand indicated interaction with a homogeneous population of noninteracting binding sites (13,000 sites/cell). A number of alpha-factor analogues, previously investigated for their structure-function relationships (Naider, F., and Becker, J.M. (1986) CRC Crit. Rev. Biochem. 21, 225-249), were used to compete with [3H]alpha-factor binding. Four tridecapeptides having conservative amino acid replacements bound strongly to the receptor. In contrast, [Phe3]alpha-factor and 10 des-Trp1-alpha-factor analogues bound to the receptor 1-3 orders of magnitude less effectively than did alpha-factor itself. The binding constants for all active pheromones correlated with biological activity. However, des-Trp1[Phe3]alpha-factor and des-Trp1-[Ala3]alpha-factor, which were not biologically active, still competed with alpha-factor binding, indicating that these analogues fail to induce a secondary signal necessary for biological response to the pheromone. One analogue, des-Trp1-[Cha3,L-Ala9]alpha-factor (where Cha represents cyclohexylalanine), was not biologically active and did not demonstrate binding to the receptor, whereas des-Trp1-[Cha3,D-Ala9]alpha-factor was active and bound to the receptor. This finding suggests that a type II beta-turn is necessary for binding of alpha-factor to its receptor and for subsequent biological activity.  相似文献

The validity of the methods used for determination of muscle mass has not been evaluated previously. We determined muscle mass by estimating muscle volume with assumption-free stereological techniques applied to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in 18 healthy untrained subjects (6 women, 12 men) aged 41 yr (29-64 yr; median, range). Muscle mass was also estimated by measuring leg circumference and cross-sectional muscle areas (CSA) from MRIs at three predetermined levels. Power [peak torque (PT)] of the ankle dorsiflexors and plantar flexors was estimated by using isokinetic dynamometry. Dorsiflexor volume (r2 = 0.76, P < 5 x 10(-6)) and CSA (r2 = 0.73, P < 5 x 10(-5)) were related to PT, whereas circumference was not (r2 = 0.17, not significant). Correspondingly, a relationship to plantar PT was established for plantar flexor volume (r2 = 0.69, P < 5 x 10(-5)) and CSA (r2 = 0.46, P < 5 x 10(-3)) but not leg circumference (r2 = 0.15, not significant). SDs of the residuals were smaller for the relationship between dorsiflexor PT and volume than between PT and CSA (0.42 vs. 0.45) for plantar flexors (1.5 vs. 2.0). By using the Cavalieri method, six MRI sections and 15 min of point counting are sufficient to obtain a valid estimate of the volume of the muscles of the lower leg.  相似文献

Based on the chemiluminescence (CL) intensity generated from the potassium ferricyanide [K(3)Fe(CN)(6)]-rhodamine 6G system in sodium hydroxide (NaOH) medium, a new sensitive flow-injection chemiluminescence (FI-CL) method has been developed, validated and applied for the determination of three kinds of H(2)-receptor antagonists: cimetidine (CIMT), ranitidine (RANT) hydrochloride and famotidine (FAMT). Under the optimum conditions, the linear range for the determination was 1.0 x 10(-9)-7.0 x 10(-5) g/ml for CIMT, 1.0 x 10(-9)-5.0 x 10(-5) g/mL for RANT hydrochloride and 5.0 x 10(-9)-7.0 x 10(-5) g/mL for FAMT. During 11 repeated measurements of 1.0 x 10(-6) g/mL sample solutions, the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were all <5%. The detection limit was 8.56 x 10(-10) g/mL for CIMT, 8.69 x 10(-10) g/mL for RANT hydrochloride and 2.35 x 10(-9) g/mL for FAMT (S:N = 3). This method has been successfully implemented for the analysis of H(2)-receptor antagonists in pharmaceuticals.  相似文献

This study compared serum total testosterone (TT) and free testosterone (FT) responses of young (20-26 years, n = 8), middle-aged (38-53 years, n = 7), and older (59-72 years, n = 9) men to resistance exercise. We also examined the relationships between testosterone (T) levels and strength, bone mineral density (BMD), and body composition variables for each age group. Subjects were tested for isotonic muscular strength (1 repetition maximum [1RM]), BMD (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry [DXA]) and body composition (DXA). Each group performed an acute exercise protocol (3 sets, 10 repetitions, 80% of 1RM, 6 exercises). Blood samples were obtained at baseline, immediately postexercise, and 15 minutes postexercise for the TT and FT assays. The older age group had significantly (p < 0.05) lower T levels than the young group, but each group exhibited an increase (p < 0.05) in TT and FT immediately postexercise. Total T and FT were significantly correlated (p < 0.05) with strength in middle-aged and older men and with bone-free lean tissue mass in older men. In conclusion, middle-aged and older men showed similar relative T responses to those of younger men to a single bout of high-intensity resistance exercise. However, T levels were related to strength and muscle mass only in middle-aged or older men. On a practical application level, older men can complete a high-intensity resistance exercise program resulting in spikes in T that may attenuate age-related muscle and BMD loss.  相似文献

本文报道1989年从202名医院工作人员鼻腔分离葡萄球菌的带菌状况和药敏性检测结果。并将此结果同作者等于1985年对200名同类人员检测的结果相比较,作了年度推移的调查分析发现1989年度的总带菌率(76.6%)比1985年度(84.5%)略有下降,但其中的金黄色葡萄球菌带菌率却从1985年的7.5%上升为10.4%。从1989年和1985两个年度的调查中,均发现临床科室人员金葡菌带菌率高于其它辅助科室人员,说明医务人员带菌率与接触病人成正相关关系。分离菌株对12种抗菌药物的耐药性检测结果显示,1989年分离菌株对其中9种的敏感性下降,并且从耐药谱显示出对5种抗菌药物耐药的多重耐药菌株明显增多。另从金葡菌的耐药情况,也看出1989年的耐药率高于1985年菌株。还在1989年分离的金葡菌中出现25%的耐甲氧西林菌株。  相似文献
