This study aims to determine the production characteristics and performance of rainbow trout hatcheries in Seydikemer, Mu?la, Turkey where over half of the total production of eyed eggs and juveniles take place. For this purpose six hatcheries with different production scales were selected and coded A, B, C, D, E and F (with capacities of 60, 15, 5.6, 4, 0.95 and 0.6 million juveniles per year, respectively). From each hatchery, 20 females were selected and their egg qualities (egg number, diameter and weight, fertilization, eyed egg, hatching, swim‐up fry and survival rates at 120 days after hatching) and juvenile growth rates were monitored until the 120th day after hatching under each farms own conditions. The sperm characteristics of 10 broodstock males from each hatchery were also examined. Although fertilization and eyed egg rates were similar among the farms, hatching, swim‐up fry, and survival rates at the 120th day after hatching differed significantly. The average eyed egg, hatching and survival rates (calculated from selected 20 females) were 72, 55, and 32%, respectively. While sperm characteristics except duration of motility (s), were significantly different among the farms, average sperm concentration (per ml), motility (%) and duration of motility (s) in the region were 11.8 × 109, 55.3, and 56.4, respectively. The best hatchery performance was observed in Farm A because of better records and management applications than in the other farms.  相似文献

Monodon baculovirus (MBV), external fouling organisms (EFO) and bacteria (especially Vibrio species) were monitored during 1996–1997 at nine different Penaeus monodon rearing hatcheries in India. Total cultivable heterotrophic bacteria, Vibrio-like-bacteria, presumptive Vibrio harveyi, Vibrio anguillarum, Vibrio vulnificus counts were determined from shrimp eggs, post larvae, rearing tank water, source sea water, feed (Artemia nauplii and microencapsulated feed). The MBV infected post larvae and their environment showed higher Vibrio-like-bacteria than uninfected post larvae. An over-whelming predominance of presumptive Vibrio harveyi and Vibrio anguillarum was observed in post larval rearing tank water, MBV infected and uninfected post larvae. Vibrio-like-bacteria in Artemia nauplii clearly showed the possible source of these pathogenic bacteria in the hatchery environments. Quantitative analysis of Vibrio-like-bacteria in hatcheries revealed that when the Vibrio-like-bacteria increases to 2 × 102 CFU mortality of the post larvae occurs. Abundance of these micro-organisms in hatchery samples indicated that they are opportunistic pathogens which can invade the shrimp tissue, subsequently cause disease when the post larvae were under stressful conditions.  相似文献

Production cost analysis in aquaculture is an essential exercise to assist farm managers. Economic assessment of a farm operation also provides the basis to formulate governmental aquaculture and enhancement policies in many regions. The present study employed questionnaires and interviewed managers while also using governmental statistics to gain insight into production cost variables in Iranian sturgeon hatcheries. Within a decade, production of sturgeon fingerlings for release and stock enhancement increased in Iran to more than 21 million fingerlings by 2004. Costs and contributions of various production factors were determined using data obtained from a questionnaire involving all hatcheries between 2000 and 2004. A team of experts completed the questionnaire data sets while conducting interviews at all sturgeon centres and other related departments. From 2000 to 2004 the contribution of A. persicus was 79% of the total number of sturgeon fingerlings produced followed by A. nudiventris with 7.5% and Huso huso with 6.6%. Among the various expenditures between 2000 and 2004, the costs for permanent and part‐time employees contributed the greatest share of total costs, averaging 44%, with a noticeable declining trend from 51% in 2000 to 36% in 2004. Obtaining and incubating fertilized eggs averaged 22% of total costs, increasing during the same time period from 6 to 35%, respectively. On average, the 2000–2004 production cost for a single sturgeon fingerling was estimated at Rials 1667 (US$ 0.20), increasing from Rials 992 (US$ 0.12) to Rials 2623 (US$ 0.29) over these 4 years. Permanent staff at a hatchery was determined as being the principal cost, followed by costs for obtaining fertilized eggs (including broodstock handling). Over the 5‐year study period the results indicated that costs for part‐time labour declined yearly and, conversely, the costs of obtaining broodstocks as well as fertilizing and incubating eggs increased. Considering the background of hatchery production and stock enhancement of sturgeon species and the results of fishing data, it is possible to arrive at a first estimate of the potential contribution of Persian sturgeon farming to the total catch in Iranian waters; it is assumed that these increases were most likely through stock enhancement.  相似文献

Shrimp hatcheries often face problems of mortality caused by diseases. To understand the bacteriological status of shrimp, Penaeus monodon Fabricius, hatcheries in India, a study of hatchery water at different points was conducted in several hatcheries located along the east and west coast of India. The species composition of the bacterial flora was also determined. The total plate counts of raw sea water on tryptic soya agar ranged from 102 to 104 ml–1, whereas it ranged from 104 to 106 ml–1 in larval tanks. In the larval tanks, the proportion of Vibrio species ranged from 50% to 73%, as compared to 31% in raw sea water. A mixed bacterial flora was observed in hatchery water; however, in the larval tanks, the flora in the larvae was predominantly made up of Vibrio species. A few of the tested Vibrio isolates were non-virulent to shrimp larvae under experimental conditions. Over 90% of the strains were resistant to amoxycillin, ampicillin, cephalexin, cephazolin, cloxacillin and sulphafurazole. Most strains showed sensitivity to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, and quinolones such as norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to determine optimum stocking density for Clarias batrachus larvae and fry during hatchery rearing. The increase in stocking density decreased the total weight, specific growth rate (SGR) and percent weight gain of Clarias larvae during a 13‐day experiment. Survival rate was highest at a stocking density of 1000 m?2 and lowest at 5000 m?2. Stocking density did not influence the total biomass production of larvae. Clarias batrachus fry performance was studied during a 28‐day hatchery rearing experiment whereby fry stocked at a density of 100 m?2 attained the highest total body weight (P < 0.05). The survival rate greatly declined to 59–61% by a density increase to 300 m?2 and above. Stocking density influenced growth and survival of C. batrachus larvae and fry during hatchery rearing. The best performance was obtained when larvae were stocked at 2000 m?2; survival was highest with C. batrachus fry stocked at 200 m?2.  相似文献

Growth performance, mortality and carotenoid pigmentation were studied in triplicate groups each with 1000 swim-up larvae of rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ), derived from five groups of female broodstock fed diets with 0.07, 12.5, 33.3, 65.1 or 92.9 mg astaxanthin kg−1, respectively. The first feeding fry (initial weight range from 113 to 148 mg) were fed a diet not supplemented with carotenoids in an experiment lasting 45 days. Fry were initially sampled for astaxanthin content and initial weight, and in subsequent 15-day intervals to determine weights, condition factors (CF), specific growth rates (SGR) and thermal growth coefficients (TGC). Total carotenoid concentration of the larvae was highly linearly correlated to that of the eggs ( r 2 = 0.97, P = 0.002). About 59–67% of fry carotenoids consisted of esterified astaxanthin, and on average 39.7% of the egg carotenoids were recovered in the fry. Overall (0–45 days) SGRs and TGCs were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in the offspring of the four groups of females fed supplemented diets (12.5–92.9 mg astaxanthin kg−1) than in offspring of females fed the non-supplemented diet. TGCs (0–45 days) within groups derived from broodstock supplemented with astaxanthin were similar (P > 0.05), but higher than in the group derived from females fed the diet not supplemented with astaxanthin (P < 0.05). Mortality (average 0.76%) was not significantly affected by treatment. The study indicates that dietary supplement of astaxanthin (>12.5 mg kg−1) to maternal broodstock diets improves offspring SGR and TGC with up to 33 and 38%, respectively.  相似文献

Gonadal maturation, rematuration, and spawning of nine- (1982 stock) and ten-year-old (1981 stock) milkfish reared in 150 and 200 m3 concrete tanks were observed in 1990 and 1991. From 23 September to 9 November 1990, the 1981 stock spawned 15 times with an average daily collection of 61,000 ± 21,000 eggs. From 4 larval rearing trials, the mean overall survival rate (from eggs to 21 -day-old fry) was 9.68 ± 4.3%. From 25 Aril to 31 October 1991, the stock spawned a totaf of 108 times. Mean daily egg collection increasef to 305,000 ± 32,000. Successful rearing trials conducted during the latter part of the spawning season had a mean overall survival rate of 17 ± 3% (n = 17) indicating that mass fry production techniques can be improved. Spawning of milkfish broodstock in concrete tanks provides an alternative to other existing methods of seed production.  相似文献

A sampling system for capturing sturgeon eggs using a D-shaped bottom anchored drift net was used to capture early life stages (ELS) of Chinese sturgeon, Acipenser sinensis , and monitor annual spawning success at Yichang on the Yangtze River, 1996–2004, before and just after the Three Gorges Dam began operation. Captured were 96 875 ELS (early life stages: eggs, yolk-sac larvae = eleuthero embryos, and larvae); most were eggs and only 2477 were yolk-sac larvae. Most ELS were captured in the main river channel and inside the bend at the Yichang spawning reach. Yolk-sac larvae were captured for a maximum of 3 days after hatching began, indicating quick dispersal downstream. The back-calculated day of egg fertilization over the eight years indicated a maximum spawning window of 23 days (20 October–10 November). Spawning in all years was restricted temporally, occurred mostly at night and during one or two spawning periods, each lasting several days. The brief temporal spawning window may reduce egg predation by opportunistic predators by flooding the river bottom with millions of eggs. During 1996–2002, the percentage of fertilized eggs in an annual 20-egg sample was between 63.5 to 94.1%; however, in 2003 the percentage fertilized was only 23.8%. This sudden decline may be related to the altered environmental conditions at Yichang caused by operation of the Three Gorges Dam. Further studies are needed to monitor spawning and changes in egg fertilization in this threatened population.  相似文献

Synopsis Chanos chanos belongs to a monotypic gonorynchiform family and is most closely related to the freshwater Ostariophysi. The earliest gonorynchiforms occurred in the Cretaceous of Brazil and west Africa. Chanos occurred in the freshwater Eocene deposits of Europe and North America, and probably invaded the circumtropical Tethys Sea during transgression episodes. At present, milkfish occurs near continental shelves and around oceanic islands throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific. Milkfish populations throughout the range show high genetic variation but low genetic divergence, similar to many other commercially important teleosts. The natural life history of milkfish is one of continual migration. Adults are relatively large (to 1.5 m or 15 kg), long-lived (to 15 years), pelagic and schooling. They spawn offshore near coral reefs or small islands. The eggs, embryos and larvae are pelagic and relatively larger than those of most marine species. Larvae ≥ 10 mm long and 2–3 weeks old move inshore via a combination of passive advection and active migration. Passing shore waters and surf zones, they settle in shallow-water depositional habitats such as mangrove swamps and coral lagoons, where they metamorphose and spend a few months as juveniles. Some juveniles may enter freshwater lakes where they grow into sub-adults but do not mature. Both small juveniles and large sub-adults go back to sea when they reach the size limit supportable by the habitat. Little else is known of the dynamics of wild populations of milkfish. A fishery on inshore larvae supports the centuries-old aquaculture of milkfish in southeast Asia. During the past ten years, milkfish have matured and spawned under various conditions of captivity, and hatcheries have produced larvae to supply the culture ponds. Much remains to be learned concerning the milkfish, particularly its ecology and physiology.  相似文献

This study analyses the structural, technological performance components and the overall productivity of inland rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) farms in the Marmara region, Turkey. Of 81 active farms, 36 were small scale (1–10 t year−1), 32 medium-sized (11–30 t year−1) and 13 large production units (over 30 t year−1). Sufficient data for this study were collected from 70 farms for inclusion in the analyses; 59.3% were so-called combined farms (hatchery and grow-out), 37.9% on-growing farms (for market production) and 2.9% producing juvenile fish only for stocking or for supply to grow-out farms. Juvenile fish production was largely conducted on large farms. Capacity utilization (102.8%) of the large farms was most similar to their projected capacity. Many large farms (43.9%) use high-tech utilities and tools. Small farms mostly use concrete ponds whereas most medium and large-scale farms use fiberglass tanks. Medium and large-scale farms were found to be more successful in broodstock management, fertilization, hatching success and survival rate of juvenile fish. Fish stocking density in medium-sized farms (21.8 kg m−3) was higher than in small-scale (14.5 kg m−3) and large-scale farms (15.5 kg m−3). Overall feed conversion ratio for all farms was estimated as 1.2. From the survey results it appears that production capacity planning was calculated more accurately in the projection phase for small and large-scale farms rather than for medium-sized farms. Medium and large-scale farms were more successful in terms of performance (good experience, good structural and technological capabilities).  相似文献

Hatchery technology has been employed for the conservation of Pacific (Oncorhynchus spp.) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) for over 140 years. The initial societal paradigm was that nature is inefficient and hatcheries could be used to conserve stocks that were over utilized or suffering habitat degradation. Although these early hatcheries failed to meet their conservation objectives, they succeeded in developing the spawning-to-swimup fry culture technology used today. In the 1930s the paradigm shifted to artificial and natural production being equally effective and led to the closure of Federal hatcheries in areas with intact freshwater habitat. Hatcheries were maintained to mitigate for habitat loss from hydropower development. With the development of cost effective smolt production technology by 1960, the paradigm returned to nature being inefficient and ushered in the massive conservation utilization production of Pacific salmon that continues to this day. The early 1990s saw another paradigm shift with nature’s inefficiency recognized as being the foundation for evolution to maintain the fitness of salmon in their natural environment. This shift gave rise to a focus for hatchery technology to preserve stocks in their native habitats. Using hatcheries for preservation–conservation has become the norm for Atlantic salmon in the USA and Atlantic Canada and for Pacific salmon stocks listed under the Endangered Species Act in the USA or as species at risk in Canada.  相似文献

Milkfish fry with an average standard length and weight of 13.88 mm and 3.95 mg, respectively, were reared for 30 days using live and frozen Moina macrocopa and Brachionusplicatilis at feeding densities of 10–20 individuals per ml. Growth, survival and yield were used as indicators of the overall performances of the various treatment groups. Fry fed live M. macrocopa showed gains (both length and weight), growth and survival rates and yields significantly higher than fry fed with other treatment groups (P < 0.05). However, significant reductions in growth and survival rates resulted when fry were fed frozen M. macrocopa. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in growth and survival rates (P < 0.05) in fry fed live or frozen B. plicatilis. The results of the current study showed that although milkfish fry could be grown successfully using B. plicatilis, feeding with live Moina significantly improved growth, survival rate and yield (P lt; 0.05). Frozen Moina was found to be unsuitable as a feed for rearing milkfish fry because it reduced growth rates and increased mortality. Comparisons between live and frozen rotifers have proven the suitability of frozen rotifers as feed for rearing milkfish fry. By freezing surplus rotifers this would permit short term storage in anticipation of high hatchery demand and overcome any unpredictable failures with live cultures.  相似文献

The efficiency of northern pike (Esox lucius Linnaeus) fry production via hormonal treatment of wintered broodstock is, in general, relatively low due to low egg fertilization percentage. It has been experimentally demonstrated that administration of acetone-dried carp pituitary extract in a slow-release vehicle of aqueous dispersion of Carbopol 971 P resin (CP) resulted in a higher mean fertilization percentage, possibly because the gradual hormone action could optimally control ovarian follicle maturation and ovulation. This new method of hormonal induction of ovulation was tested in a large-scale hatchery production of northern pike fry. In the present study, data on fertilization percentage collected between 2002 and 2006 at two prominent hatcheries in Hungary were analyzed. Administration of acetone-dried carp pituitary in a 2.5% CP vehicle resulted in higher fertilization (76.4 ± 7.7%; mean ± SD) compared to the saline vehicle group (59.3 ± 10.8%). The vehicle used did not affect the ovulation ratio. According to these results from large-scale production, the new method could be suitable to have wide application for induced breeding of northern pike. Guest editors: J. M. Farrell, C. Skov, M. Reproduction of pike-perch (Stizostedion lucioperca) in captivity   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A natural controlled spawning of pike-perch is suggested as the prevailing method providing good results in terms of embryo survival and fry production. Techniques of hormonal induction combined with water temperature manipulation are progressively developed. The eggs are most commonly incubated with the 'nest', or in Zug jars in the case of artificial fertilization. The larvae are then transferred into specific containers for their yolk absorption. The success rate from egg to free-swimming fry is 60–70%.  相似文献

Survival rates and growth parameters of hatchery‐reared sea trout (Salmo trutta trutta L.) fry were determined after stocking in the wild. The larvae were hatchery‐reared for 12 weeks in two groups: fry were fed either on live zooplankton and live chironomidae larvae (LFG), or fed a pellet diet (PFG). The survival rate and specific growth rates were higher in the LFG than in the PFG group. Most effective for hatchery‐reared fish intended for stocking was the natural, live feed. The mean number of chironomid larvae found in the stomachs of fish that were initially captured in the wild was significantly higher in the LFG than in the PFG group. The live diet supplied in the rearing period had a positive impact on the foraging skills of the sea trout fry and their survival in the wild after their release on 24 April 2010.  相似文献

Abstract: Different age groups of potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella Zeller, eggs were exposed to gamma irradiation at incremental doses up to 150 Gy (the upper dose limit allowed for potato sprout inhibition). Young eggs were more likely to be sensitive to gamma irradiation than older eggs and the sensitivity level declined with age of the eggs. The exposure of 3–3.5-day-old eggs to 150 Gy resulted in a 26% increase in the egg incubation period compared with unirradiated eggs. The minimum dose required to prevent 4–4.5-day-old eggs from hatching was 1 kGy. When eggs were exposed to 75 Gy, 9.7% of larvae survived to the adult stage but emerged as deformed moths. At 100 and 125 Gy, 10.2 and 9.6% of larvae pupated, respectively, although no adult eclosion was recorded, whereas at 150 Gy, the larvae remained in mid-instar stage and eventually died. Gamma irradiation doses applied to inhibit potato sprouting could be also considered as a valuable control tool against potato tuber moth infestations.  相似文献

Following exposure to a predator stimulus (a brown trout Salmo trutta ), the opercular rate of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar fry increased by 35·3 ± 11·0%(mean ± 95% CI). The time taken for opercular rate to decline to baseline levels depended upon the occurrence of any associated locomotory activity. Opercular rates of fish that dashed when exposed remained elevated for 38·2 ± 20·6 min, whereas those of individuals that did not move ('freezers') recovered within 7·2 ± 2·9 min. The duration that opercular rate remained elevated was positively correlated with the magnitude of the elevation, which was higher in 'dashers' than freezers. The maximum opercular rate in 'freezers' was similar between wild fry and hatchery‐reared fry (from wild parents). There was a significant delay, however, in hatchery compared with wild fry in the time until peak ventilatory response and onset in the decline phase. This difference in opercular response suggests that hatchery fish were slower to realize fully the potential danger from the predator. Any delay in response could be directly attributed to the effect of hatchery‐rearing environment, rather than domestication or hatchery selection effects.  相似文献

In 1993, about 52% of the 433 698 tons of thetotal US aquaculture production came from theproduction of freshwater catfish. Excludingsalmonid culture, the percentage of marine finfishculture in total aquaculture production in the UShas been negligible. Commercial scale production ofmarine finfish in hatcheries is very limited in theUS.Studies on eggs and larvae of marine finfishspecies in the US have stemmed from theconsideration of fisheries management rather thanaquaculture. Most of the marine finfish larvaeproduced in the laboratory has been for the purposeof providing materials for other academic relatedstudies. Results of these studies can be applied inthe development of marine finfish hatcherytechnology. Hatchery technology for several marinefinfish species has been developed for stockenhancement, technology transfer and aquaculture. This paper reviews the current hatchery technologyof striped mullet (Mugil cephalus), dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus), red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), and other potentialaquaculture species.  相似文献

This study aimed to develop nutritionally balanced and cost-effective processed diets for milkfish larvae ( Chanos chanos Forsskal). Two larval diets (feed A and feed B) were formulated and prepared to contain 45&percnt| protein and 10&percnt| lipid. Several larval diet preparations were tried such as microbound/ unpelleted (freeze-dried), microbound/pelleted (oven-dried) and microbound/flaked (drum-dried) and assessed in terms of feed particle size and buoyancy, water stability and feed acceptability. The preparation that gave the best particle size and buoyancy as well as good water stability was prepared as the microbound diet (using K -carrageenan as a binder) and flaked using a drum drier. A series of feeding experiments were conducted to determine the growth and survival of milkfish larvae reared on various feeding schemes using these processed larval diets which were fed either solely or in combination with live feed. Larvae in control treatments were reared on live foods such as Brachionus plicatilis and Artemia nauplii. Larvae were observed to ingest the diets, indicating that the feeds had suitable physical characteristics and were attractive to the larvae. The overall results of the feeding trials showed that the artificial diets could be fed to milkfish larvae in combination with Brachionus rotifers starting on day 2 or day 8, and could be fed alone starting from day 15. These promising results would reduce the dependence of milkfish larvae on live feed and would have significant economic benefits in the form of simplified milkfish hatchery procedures.  相似文献

Survival rate and growth parameters of Atlantic salmon fry and sea trout fry were determined after stocking in the wild. Before release (22 May 2009) into the wild the larvae were reared for 10 weeks in the hatchery in three groups: (i) fry fed on live zooplankton , (ii) fry fed on larvae of live nekton, and (iii) fry fed on prepared pellet food. In autumn (15 September 2010) the fish were caught in the wild; the survival rate and growth parameters of both Atlantic salmon and sea trout were the highest in the zooplankton‐fed group, whilst the pellet‐fed group had the lowest survival rate and growth value parameters. Most effective food for hatchery‐reared fishes to be used as stock was the natural living zooplankton. The general conclusion is that the live diet supplied in the rearing period has a positively impact on fish survival in the wild.  相似文献
