Pour-on eprinomectin was recently registered for lactating small ruminants. Given the high prevalence of benzimidazole resistance in gastrointestinal nematodes in dairy goats, many farmers use eprinomectin exclusively to treat their animals. On a French dairy goat farm, a veterinary practitioner noted a poor response to two types of eprinomectin treatment (pour-on application and injectable formulation). Therefore, we evaluated the efficacy of both formulations of eprinomectin, as well as moxidectin and fenbendazole, using the fecal egg count reduction test (FECRT) according to the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) guidelines. Nematode species were identified at days 0 and post-treatment days 14 after bulk larval cultures, by morphology and real-time PCR. Plasma concentrations of eprinomectin were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) at post-treatment days 2 and 5 in the eprinomectin-treated groups. Egg count reductions were poor in animals treated with topical (−16.7%; 95% CI:[−237; 59]) or subcutaneous (21.5%; 95% CI:[−126; 73]) eprinomectin, and with fenbendazole (−5.8%; 95% CI:[−205; 63]). Haemonchus contortus was the main species identified by morphology and by real-time PCR before and after treatment. The plasma concentrations of eprinomectin were determined in all eprinomectin-treated animals and were above 2 ng/ml at post-treatment day 2, indicating that the lack of effect was not due to low exposure of the worms to the drug. Interestingly, moxidectin remained effective in all infected animals. This is the first report of multiple resistance to eprinomectin and benzimidazole in H. contortus on a French dairy goat farm with moxidectin as a relevant alternative.  相似文献

A quantitative Taqman polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was used to evaluate the response of Mycoplasma haemofelis experimentally infected cats to three antibiotic treatment regimes. Sixteen cats were intravenously inoculated with M. haemofelis from a chronically infected donor. The cats were randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups each containing four cats: oral doxycycline at 10 mg/kg/day for 14 days, oral enrofloxacin at 5 mg/kg/day for 14 days, oral enrofloxacin at 10 mg/kg/day for 14 days, and an untreated control group. DNA, extracted from blood samples collected on days 0, 7, 14, 21, 25, 28, 32, 35, 42 and 54 post-inoculation (PI), was subjected to quantitative Taqman PCR. The M. haemofelis copy number was significantly lower in the doxycycline group (P=0.008), the 5 mg/kg/day enrofloxacin group (P=0.006) and the 10 mg/kg/day enrofloxacin group (P=0.005) compared to the untreated control group. No significant differences were found between any of the three antibiotic treated treatment groups. All three antibiotic treatment regimes evaluated in this study were effective at reducing M. haemofelis copy number.  相似文献

This study was designed to determine the acute effects of a single-dose of orally administered doramectin, eprinomectin and selamectin on Syphacia muris infection in rats. Rats, naturally infected with S. muris, were divided into four groups: three different treatment groups (n = 7) and one positive control (n = 7). Cellophane tape preparations were obtained from the treated rats on day 0 pre-treatment and on days 2, 4 and 6 post-treatment. Syphacia sp. eggs were counted. Eprinomectin was found to be 100% effective in eliminating eggs on two post-treatment. However when egg counts on day 6 post-treatment were compared with pre-treatment egg counts, doramectin and selamectin were found to be 99.32 and 98.77% effective in eliminating eggs, respectively. On day 7 post-treatment, blood samples were obtained from all groups, and then the rats were necropsied. Doramectin, eprinomectin and selamectin were found to be 100% effective in eliminating adult S. muris, when compared with the positive control group.  相似文献

Aelurostrongylus abstrusus and Troglostrongylus brevior are snail-transmitted helminths causing respiratory diseases in infected cats. The shedding of feline lungworm L1s and their infectivity to the snail intermediate host, after administration of anthelminthic products to cats, are poorly documented. To assess the efficacy of 8.3% fipronil, 10% (S)-methoprene, 0.4% eprinomectin and 8.3% praziquantel (i.e. eprinomectin formulation) and 10% imidacloprid/1% moxidectin (i.e. moxidectin formulation) against these nematodes and to determine the number of days post-treatment until viable L1s are released in the faeces, 384 animals were screened by faecal examination. Of the 54 positive animals (i.e., 14.1%; 7.3% A. abstrusus, 6.2% T. brevior and 0.5% coinfected), 36 were randomly allocated to four groups. Groups A and B were composed of cats positive for T. brevior and treated with the eprinomectin and with the moxidectin formulations, respectively, whereas cats in groups C and D were positive to A. abstrusus and treated with the eprinomectin and the moxidectin formulations, respectively. Prior to and every day after treatment, faecal samples were analysed by the Baermann technique and the number of larvae per gram of faeces determined, and again four weeks after treatment, to assess the efficacy of a single administration of the products. In addition, to evaluate the pre- and post-treatment infectivity of L1s to snail intermediate hosts, one/two snails per cat were infected with 100 L1s collected from the faeces of enrolled animals and then digested 28 days p.i. Based on L1s faecal counts, the efficacy of the eprinomectin and the moxidectin formulations at 28 days was 100% for both A. abstrusus and T. brevior, with a mean number of days of 7.9 ± 1.2 in group A, 7.8 ± 1.9 in B, 6.9 ± 1.6 in C and 8.9 ± 2.0 in D to become negative. Following the artificial digestion, active L3s of T. brevior and A. abstrusus were found in 160 (87.4%) experimentally infected snails. The results of this study demonstrate that a single administration of the two formulations is effective in the treatment of A. abstrusus and T. brevior infections and that during the post-treatment period live L1s are shed for up to 8.9 ± 2.0 days. L1s of both lungworm species released in the faeces after drug administration are still able to reach the infective larval stage in the infected snails. Hence, preventative measures after the treatment of infected animals should include keeping cats indoors and disposal of their faeces for approximately 10 days to avoid environmental contamination and infection of gastropod intermediate hosts.  相似文献

In vitro anthelmintic activity of crude extracts of the ripe fruits of Hedera helix was investigated on eggs and adult nematode parasites Haemonchus contortus. Aqueous extract of H. helix was also evaluated for in vivo anthelmintic activity at dose of 1.13 and 2.25 g/kg in sheep artificially infected with H. contortus. ED(50) for egg hatch inhibition was 0.12 and 0.17 mg/ml for aqueous and hydro-alcoholic extracts, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in the activity of the two extract types (p>0.05). Hydro-alcoholic extract showed better in vitro activity against adult parasites compared to the aqueous extract. Significant faecal egg count reduction (FECR) was detected in groups treated with both doses of H. helix (p<0.05) on day 2 post-treatment. On day 7 post-treatment significant reduction was detected only for higher dose of H. helix (p<0.05) while on day 14 post-treatment there was no significant FECR in both groups treated with H. helix. The percentage of larvae recovered from culturing faeces obtained from groups of sheep treated with lower and higher doses of H. helix was 47.52% and 36.07%, respectively, which was significantly lower than (p<0.05) that recovered from the control group (60%). Significant (p<0.05), dose dependent total worm count reduction (WCR) was observed for groups of sheep treated with H. helix. Increasing the dose of H. helix improved the efficacy against the male than the female parasites. Treatment with both doses of H. helix helped the animals maintain their packed cell volume (PCV) unlike the untreated control group. The overall findings of the current study indicated that H. helix has a potential anthelmintic benefit and further in vitro and in vivo evaluation of the different parts and fractions is needed to make use of this plant for therapeutic purposes.  相似文献

An experimental pathological study was performed to observe the effect of praziquantel treatment on the pulmonary lesions of the rat lung fluke, Paragonimus iloktsuenensis. The metacercariae were obtained from the freshwater crab, Sesarma dehaani, and 40 rats (wistar) were fed each with 10 metacercariae. On 20 rats praziquantel treatment (100mg/kg/day x 5 days) was done at 5 weeks after the infection while remaining 20 rats were kept untreated for use as controls. The drug-treated rats and the untreated ones were sacrificed 3, 7, 14, 21 or 28 days later for the observation of lung pathology. The rats infected with P. iloktsuenensis showed remarkable pulmonary changes; gross features of hemorrhagic and nodular worm capsules protruded on to the surface of the lung, and histologically local atelectasis, inflammatory cell infiltration, and egg granuloma around the worm capsules each containing one or two worms. Praziquantel treatment of the rats was shown to be highly effective in killing the worms and to lead them to degenerate, as early as in 3 days post-treatment. Almost all worms in the lung were dead and absorbed by the host cells in 21 days post-treatment, except a few living ones seen in a rat of 14-day post-treatment group. In most of the rats treated the pulmonary lesions showed the signs of resolution; regression of worm capsules with mummification of worms, decrease of inflammatory cell infiltration, improvement in the degree of atelectasis, and decreases in the frequency and size of the egg granuloma. From the results it is concluded that praziquantel is highly effective for the treatment of rat P. iloktsuenensis infection in the lung, not only by its direct killing effect of the worms but also due to the excellent resolution capacity of the pulmonary tissues.  相似文献

Two groups of 33 helminth-naive lambs were infected with 5,000 L3 of an ivermectin-resistant or -susceptible strain of Haemonchus contortus (groups R and S). On days 6, 10, 16, and 21 postinfection, 5 animals from each group were chosen at random and orally treated with 0.2 mg/kg of ivermectin. On each occasion, 2 randomly selected lambs from each group were also killed to determine the number and stage of development of the worms present at the time of treatment. These necropsies revealed that by day 6 early and late fourth-stage larvae were present, whereas on day 10 the early fifth stage had been reached; by days 16 and 21 all worms had reached the adult stage. Necropsies on day 28 postinfection revealed that although animals treated at day 6 had 26.3% fewer worms than the controls, there was no significant difference (P greater than 0.05) between worm burdens from any of the animals infected with the R strain and treated at different times after infection when compared with the untreated controls. With ivermectin significant reductions were obtained in the worm burdens of the animals infected with the susceptible strain; these were reduced by 96% when treatment was given on day 6 against fourth-stage larvae and 98.9% when the drug was given on day 21 against adult stages. From these results it is clear that resistance to ivermectin in this strain of H. contortus is present as early as the fourth larval stage.  相似文献

In the present investigations 510 sheep have been examined for the presence of lungworm larvae: 342 (67,05%) of them proved positive. The identification of the parasites demonstrated the presence of Dyctiocaulus filaria in 18,62% of the examined animals, Muellerius capillaris in 50%, Cystocaulus ocreatus in 26,86% and Protostrongylus spp. in 12,35%. All positive flocks were positive for two or more genera of lungworms.  相似文献

It is well known that the duodenum of mice or rats infected with Fibricola seoulensis shows atrophy of villi (shortening, blunting, widening, fusion) and hyperplasia of crypts. This study was performed to observe healing process of these pathological changes after deworming with anthelmintic treatment. Albino rats infected each with 1,000 metacercariae of F. seoulensis were treated with single dose of 10 mg/kg praziquantel on day 15 post-infection. On day 1, 3, 5, 7, 15, 21 and 28 after the treatment, they were sacrificed and their duodenums were histopathologically studied. Control (uninfected) rats showed their normal finger-like projections of duodenal villi and well arranged crypts. In comparison, untreated (infected) controls revealed severe mucosal changes characteristic of villous atrophy and crypt hyperplasia in their duodenum. The damaged duodenal mucosa was found to restore its normal morphology after praziquantel treatment; until day 3 post-treatment the mucosa was severely atrophied; on day 5 long and slender villi sometimes appeared among the fused and stout ones; after day 15 the villi were in their normalizing process. From this experiment, it was shown that the mucosal changes in the duodenum of rats caused by F. seoulensis infection were completely reversible in 21-28 days after anthelmintic treatment.  相似文献

This study was carried out to compare the efficacy of two suspensions (5% and 15%) of netobimin against Dicrocoelium dendriticum in naturally infected sheep. Fifteen Merino sheep, 4 to 7 years old, were used in this survey. Animals were divided into three equal groups each of five sheep on the basis of bodyweights and D. dendriticum egg counts in per gram faeces. Group A and group B sheep were treated orally with 5% and 15% suspension of netobimin, respectively; both at a dose rate of 20 mg kg−1. Group C sheep were left untreated as controls. Twenty-one days post-treatment all sheep were slaughtered for post-mortem examination. All D. dendriticum from the liver and gall bladder were recovered and counted. The results showed that the efficacy of 5% and 15% suspension of netobimin was 90.80% and 91.50%, respectively, and the use of 15% suspension in sheep is discussed.  相似文献

The chromosome complement was assessed in Merino sheep embryos collected at 3 and 5 days after the onset of oestrus. Donor ewe treatments were: untreated, or immunized against androstenedione (day 3); and untreated, or treated with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), or treated with FSH plus immunization against androstenedione (day 5). No significant differences in the frequency of chromosomally abnormal embryos between treatment groups within each age group were observed, so the data have been combined. Euploid abnormalities were observed in 10.8% of the day-3 embryos (4/37), with the abnormalities being one 1n, one 3n and two 5n. Embryos with euploidy (10%) were also observed at day 5, with three 1n/2n mosaics and a 3n embryo present in a sample of 40. These data suggest that chromosomally aberrant embryos are not lost before day 5 of development.  相似文献

Seasonal population trends and effects of Oestrus ovis in naturally infected sheep were studied over 13 months, in the Western of the Pampeana region. At weaning, 140 growing lambs were randomly allocated to two groups: UG, untreated group and TG treated every 4 weeks with closantel (10 mg/kg). Successive Oestrus free tracer lambs (TL) by previous treatment (n = 65) were slaughtered after 20-30 exposition days for larval counts. Likewise, other group PL of 117 permanent untreated lambs was slaughtered from four to 17 months of age. Weighing and assessment of health signs of UG and TG and blood samples were monthly carried out. The prevalence of infection in permanent group varied from 33% to 100%. Mean number of larvae in PL was 6.1 with 3 L1, 1.4 L2 and 1.6 L3 during spring-summer and 17.9 with 16.9 L1, 0.5 L2 and 0.4 L3 during autumn-winter months. In PL the proportions of larvae in each of the different larval stages was similar during spring and summer, but a significant (P < 0.01) increase of L1 was detected during autumn and winter. The prevalence in tracer lambs was 100% during summer time and larvae were absent from 25-May to 25-October. Mean larval burdens of positive TL varied from 6.4 to one Oestrus and a significant peak (P < 0.05) of larvae was seen from December to March. Since March to November only L1 was recovered from TL. TG group showed a reduction in nasal discharge and in antibody ELISA levels, but no difference was observed in live weight gain between TG and UG. These results show a high prevalence during summer and that the perpetuation of Oestrus is ensured by an autumn period of arrested development and the over wintering larvae in the sheep heads.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to evaluate and compare the physiological responses of sheep and goats to water restriction using the deuterium dilution technique (D2O) to predict the total water intake (TWI) in both species. In two consecutive trials, 10 non-lactating Boer goats and 10 non-lactating German black-head mutton ewes were each randomly allocated into a treatment and a control group. In the control groups (n = 5, for each species), water was offered ad libitum, whereas the treatment groups (n = 5, for each species) received water 3 h/day on experimental days 8 to 14 and 6 h every 2 days on experimental days 15 to 22. The respiratory rate, rectal temperature, body mass and drinking behaviour were also recorded. The TWI was estimated by D2O for each animal. Water restriction for 21 h/day or 42 h/2 days had no significant (P > 0.05) effect on water intake (WI), feed intake, WI to dry matter intake ratio or body mass in both species. The absence of differences between species in their WIs was also confirmed using D2O. However, sheep had higher respiratory rates and rectal temperatures than goats in both control and treatment groups. Both species showed the ability to tolerate a moderate water shortage by activating several physiological mechanisms and behavioural strategies.  相似文献

The effects of Beauveria bassiana strain GHA, applied as BotaniGard ES, on newly colonised and well-established populations of emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) were evaluated in the field using foliar and trunk sprays in Michigan in 2004–2005. Results from field trials at a newly colonised white ash site showed a 41% reduction in A. planipennis population in fungal-treated trees compared with that of untreated controls. In addition, fungal infection was also found in 20% of the larval population within 14 days of incubation under laboratory conditions. At a site with a well-established Agrilus planipennis population in green ash trees, larval density was reduced by 47% for trees treated with the fungus compared with that of the controls; 21% of larvae from the current generation were found infected after 14 days of laboratory incubation. Fungal-treated green ash trees also produced fewer adults emerging in the next generation, with a 63% reduction in adult density observed in treated trees compared to that of controls. As a result, fungal-treated trees sustained 42% less crown dieback than did controls. A. planipennis larval density was negatively correlated with trunk height above the ground, and positively correlated with log diameter. Results of laboratory leaf bioassays on A. planipennis adults showed that fungal conidia persisted well under field conditions, with mortality of 78–100% at 7 – days post – exposure for leaves collected between 2 and 264 h after application. Potential strategies for using B. bassiana strain GHA for managing A. planipennis are discussed.  相似文献

In this study we examined the effect of various initial sensitizing doses of infective Toxocara canis eggs and the effect of murine host genotype on the level of trapping of larvae in the liver after larval challenge. In the initial experiments, C57BL/6J mice were infected with a sensitization dose of 5, 25, 75, 125, or 250 infective T. canis eggs on day 0 postinfection (PI). On day 28 PI all mice were challenged with 500 infective eggs. On days 7, 14, and 21 postchallenge (PC) larval numbers within individual livers were determined. Trapping of larvae was observed in mice receiving a sensitization dose of 25 or more eggs. At 7 and 14 days PC the level of trapping increased with sensitization egg dose up to a dose of 125 eggs. At 21 days PC the level of trapping reached a plateau at a sensitization dose of 75 eggs. The peak level of larval trapping was observed on day 7 and day 14 PC following sensitization doses of 125 and 250 eggs, respectively. In the subsequent experiments, mice of various strains and H-2 haplotypes were inoculated with an initial sensitization dose of 125 eggs and a challenge dose of 500 eggs on day 0 and day 28 PI, respectively. Larval trapping within the liver was determined on day 14 PC. C57BL/6J mice trapped significantly more larvae than DBA/2J mice (P less than 0.01); all other strains trapped larvae at a lower, but statistically similar, level to the C57BL6/J mice.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The transmission, control and the relationship between Dicrocoelium dendriticum and its definitive (sheep and cattle) and intermediate (molluscs and ants) hosts under natural and experimental conditions are described. Eleven species of molluscs and four of ants were found infected with larval D. dendriticum in León province, north-west Spain. Infected ants were observed between April and November and in tetania at 7.5-26.9 degrees C. The highest shedding of eggs by sheep and cattle was detected in winter. Two treatments applied in November and January were the most effective. In experimentally infected molluscs, the parasite was not visible under the stereomicroscope, at least until 50 days post-infection (p.i.). The prepatent period in experimentally infected lambs was 49-79 days p.i. The number of eggs per gram increased with the days p.i. and the parasite burden. The aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, leukocyte and neutrophil values of infected lambs increased, but those of lymphocytes decreased. Using the enzyme-linked immunosorbert assay technique, the IgG antibody response to excretory-secretory and somatic antigens of D. dendriticum was positive from day 30 p.i., although the maximum antibody levels were observed on day 60 p.i. The number of worms per lamb ranged between 30 and 2063. Cholangitis and cholangiectasia of the septal bile and hepatic ducts were observed. The best enzymatic systems for adult and larval D. dendriticum characterization were lactate dehydrogenase, glucose phosphate isomerase and phosphoglucomutase. Genetic variability of adult D. dendriticum was high using the random amplified polymorphic DNA technique.  相似文献

The sand flea Tunga penetrans is one of the zoonotic agents of tungiasis, a parasitic skin disease of humans and animals. The dog is one of its main reservoirs. This negatively controlled, randomized, double-masked clinical trial evaluated the therapeutic and residual efficacy of fluralaner for treatment of dogs naturally infested with T. penetrans. Sixty-two dogs from an endemically affected community in Brazil were randomly assigned to either receive oral fluralaner (Bravecto chewable tablets) at a dose of 25 to 56 mg fluralaner/kg body weight, or no treatment (31 dogs per group). Dogs were clinically examined using a severity score for acute canine tungiasis (SCADT), parasitological examinations as defined by the Fortaleza classification, and pictures of lesions on days 0 (inclusion and treatment), 7 ± 2, 14 ± 2, 21 ± 2, 28 ± 2, 60 ± 7, 90 ± 7, 120 ± 7 and 150 ± 7. The percentage of parasite-free dogs after treatment was >90% between days 14 and 90 post-treatment with 100% efficacy on study days 21, 28 and 60. Sand flea counts on fluralaner treated dogs were significantly lower (p<0.025) than control dogs on all counts from day 7 to 120. The number of live sand fleas on treated dogs was reduced by > 90% on day 7, > 95% on days 14 and 90, and 100% from day 21 to 60, and with a significant difference between groups from day 7 to 120. From day 7 to day 120, mean SCADT scores were significantly reduced in treated dogs with a mean of 0.10 compared to 1.54 on day 120 in untreated dogs. Therefore, a single oral fluralaner administration is effective for treating and achieving long lasting (> 12 weeks) prevention for tungiasis in dogs.  相似文献

Effects of the antiparasitic drug eprinomectin were studied in the laboratory and field experiments in Hokkaido, Japan, by pour-on administrations (500 μg/kg) on the pest fly Haematobia irritans (Linnaeus), nontarget coprophagous fly Neomyia cornicina (Fabricius), and the dung beetles Caccobius jessoensis Harold and Liatongus minutus (Motschulsky). Eprinomectin excreted into cattle dung was highest at 3 days post-treatment in both experiments, then it declined rapidly at 7 days and was not detected on or after day 14 post-treatment. In laboratory experiments, pupation and emergence rates of H. irritans and N. cornicina were hampered from 1 to 14 days post-treatment. There were no significant differences in the numbers of brood balls constructed by C. jessoensis in dung from treated and control cattle. Adult emergence rates of C. jessoensis were significantly reduced on days 1 and 3 post-treatment in dung from treated cattle. There were no significant differences in the numbers of brood balls constructed by L. minutus in dung from treated and control cattle, but survival rates of larvae were significantly reduced on days 1 and 3 post-treatment. In field experiments, the numbers of brood balls by L. minutus recovered from beneath dung pats were significantly larger in number in dung from treated cattle, suggesting that adult beetles are attracted to dung pats from treated cattle. Survival rates of larvae in these brood balls of L. minutus were significantly reduced 1 day post-treatment in dung pats from treated cattle, and equivalent levels to the control were restored 7 days post-treatment. The results are discussed in relation to the effects of endectocides on nontarget insects in grazing pastures.  相似文献

HIV infection is a global health concern. Current HIV-diagnostics provide information about the disease progression and efficacy of anti-retroviral therapies (ARVs), but this information is very limited and sometimes imprecise. Present study assessed the potential role of mononuclear cell (MNC) death, expression of caspases (1&3) and cell free mitochondrial DNA (CF mt-DNA) in HIV infected individuals. Apoptosis, cell-count, expression of caspases and CF mt-DNA were measured through flow cytometry and qPCR, respectively, in HIV infected individuals (n?=?120) divided in two groups i.e. ARVs-receiving (treated, n?=?87), ART-naïve (untreated, n?=?37) and healthy individuals (n?=?47). Data showed significant (p?<?0.0001) cell death in untreated individuals than treated and healthy individuals. CD4-positive T-cell percentage declined (p?<?0.0001) in untreated as compared to treated individuals. Caspase-1, an indicator of pyroptosis, and CF mt-DNA were also elevated in untreated HIV infected individuals. Untreated individuals when administered with ARVs showed improved CD4-positive T-cell percentage, lower caspase-1, CF mt-DNA and cell death. Data elucidated positive co-relation between cell death and CF mt-DNA in treated and untreated HIV infected individuals. While CD4-positive T-cell percentage was negatively correlated with caspase-1 expression and CF mt-DNA. Elevated levels of CF mt-DNA and caspase-1 in HIV infected individuals, positive correlation between cell death and CF mt-DNA, negative correlation of CD4-positive T-cell percentage with CF mt-DNA and caspase-1 expression clearly indicated the potential of CF mt-DNA and caspase-1 as a novel disease progression and ARTs effectiveness biomarkers in HIV.

The naturally-derived insecticide spinosad (Conserve SC) was evaluated against larval Culex pipiens L. (Diptera: Culicidae) under laboratory and field conditions in Antalya, Turkey. Laboratory bioassays showed that the 24 h LC50 and LC90 against late 3rd and early 4th instars were estimated at 0.027 and 0.111 parts per million, respectively, while adult emergence was eliminated at concentrations above 0.06 ppm. Larval mortality from septic tanks that were treated with spinosad at rates of 25, 50, 100, and 200 g ai/ha ranged between 22 to 78% 1 day after application. At 7 days post-treatment, larval mortality ranged from 2 to 50% and at 14 days mortality was <10% for all treatments. Larval bioassays of the water from those septic tanks treated at 100 and 200 g ai/ha resulted in an elimination of Cx. pipiens larvae 7 days after treatment. After this time, larval reduction declined to 79 and 83%, respectively, 14 days after treatment. Larval reduction in septic tanks treated at the two lowest rates (i.e. 25 and 50 g ai/ha) ranged from 14 to 74% during the 14-day study. These results indicated that spinosad can be considered an effective larvicide for treatment of septic tanks against Cx. pipiens.  相似文献
