The fatty acid composition of 42 isolates belonging to the major plant affinity groups of Rhizobium has been determined and found to vary reproducible with culture age. Numerical taxonomic techniques applied to the 15 major fatty acid components of log-phase cultures of comparable physiological age showed that the rhizobia constitute a uniform group. However, two clusters comprising soybean-cowpea isolates and pea-bean isolates were evident. These observations, based on a simple analysis of only one group of chemical components, indicate relationships among rhizobia which differ from the conventional plant-affinity groupings but which are consistent with other proposed relationships established using a variety of biochemical and physiological criteria.  相似文献

Dry wt, total oil and fatty acid composition of the oil was determined during kernel development of three maize inbreds. There was significant variability among these inbreds for duration and rate of dry wt, oil and fatty acid accumulation. Relative quantities of the component fatty acids changed as the kernels developed. Palmitic and linolenic decreased while oleic and stearic increased with maturity. Inbred C103, the higher oil inbred, appeared to accumulate oil over a longer period of time while inbred Hy2, the lower oil inbred, accumulated oil over a shorter period of time. However, the latter had higher daily rates of synthesis for some of the unsaturated fatty acids.  相似文献

The fatty acid composition of the whole cell and cell wall ofAerobacter aerogenes was studied employing column and gas-chromatographic technique. The cell wall contained a greater percentage of total lipid, complex lipid, and free fatty acids compared to the whole cell. Palmitic acid and oleic acid were the most abundant fatty acids found in the free fatty acid and complex lipid fractions. A saturated C17 fatty acid and small quantities of a branched C16 and iso and anteiso C12 fatty acids were detected. The glyceride fractions of the whole cell and cell wall contained very few fatty acids.  相似文献

Male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to increasing concentrations (15-22 mg/l) of ethanol vapor over a 4-day period. Phospholipids were analyzed in liver mitochondria isolated from ethanol-treated and pair-weighted control animals. After a 2-day inhalation period, the proportion of monoenoic acids in total phospholipids increased, whereas that of arachidonic acid decreased. These changes were more striking in phosphatidylcholine (PC) than in phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). The decrease in 20:4 may be related to increased lipid peroxidation. After a 4-day inhalation period, quite different changes in phospholipid fatty acids were found. They consisted in a trend towards a more unsaturated system, the proportion of 20:4 being increased in PC and that of 22:6 in PE. This increase in polyunsaturated acids might be related to a direct ethanol effect on lipid structure and/or metabolism that would be linked to the high blood alcohol level present at this stage of ethanol intoxication.  相似文献

We have studied the fatty acid composition of total lipids of erythrocytes and vesicles either during storage of human erythrocytes in their own plasma under blood bank conditions or during incubation at 37 degrees C in protein-free media. Vesicles appear as a heterogeneous population with a diameter of about 130 nm and a varying content of hemoglobin. The fatty acid pattern of vesicle total lipids changes in respect to control erythrocytes, while in erythrocytes it remains fairly constant during the total ageing period. Our results indicate a marked rearrangement of the membrane components during blood storage.  相似文献

Fatty acid composition of Simonsiella strains   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Gas-liquid chromatography of methyl esters of bound fatty acids extracted from the cells of 48 Simonsiella strains showed that these aerobic, gliding, multicellular-filamentous bacteria have fatty acid profiles of the pattern considered typical of Gramnegative eubacteria. All strains contained predominantly tetradecanoic acid (29.5%), 9-hexadecenoic acid (22.2%), an unidentified acid with an equivalent chain length of approximately 20 carbon atoms (15.8%), and dodecanoic acid (11.4%).Discriminant analysis of the mean relative percentages of 12 fatty acids correctly assigned 94% of the strains to groups based on their source of origin (i.e., the oral cavities of sheep, cat, human or dog); the relative amounts of only 3 of the fatty acids (9-octadecenoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, and tetradecanoic acid) provided most of this discrimination.  相似文献

Fatty acid compositions of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum, 1792) was determined during embryogenesis, yolk-sac fry, swim up fry and fry stages. Embryonic and yolk-sac development of fertilized eggs were followed until fry weighed 25 g and samples were taken from each stage to analyse fatty acid composition. Analyses of fatty acid composition were performed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry. Throughout all the developmental stages of O. mykiss important changes, such as an increase in the percentage of 18:2, 18:3 and 20:5 and as a decrease in the percentage of 14:0, 16:2, 20:0, 20:2, 20:3, 20:4 and 22:0 were observed in the amounts of fatty acid of developing eggs. During transition from the embryonic to the yolk-sac stage, an important increase in 20:0, 20:3, 20:5, 22:0 and a decrease in 18:3, 22:1 was determined between 45-day old embryo and yolk-sac fry. During transition from the 43 day yolk-sac stage to swim up stage, a decrease in the percentage of 18:0, 20:2 and an increase in the percentage of 14:0, 16:2, 18:2, 18:3 was seen. In all the observed stages, no qualitative but significant quantitative variations were determined in the fatty acid composition of O. mykiss. It may be concluded that 14:0, 16:0, 16:1, 18:0, 18:1 18, 20 and 22 polyunsaturated fatty acids are necessary for normal development of O. mykiss during their life stages.  相似文献

Fatty acid and sterol analysis were performed on Phytomonas serpens and Phytomonas sp. grown in chemically defined and complex medium, and P. fran?ai cultivated in complex medium. The three species of the genus Phytomonas had qualitatively identical fatty acid patterns. Oleic, linoleic, and linolenic were the major unsaturated fatty acids. Miristic and stearic were the major saturated fatty acids. Ergosterol was the only sterol isolated from Phytmonas sp. and P. serpens grown in a sterol-free medium, indicating that it was synthesized de novo. When P. fran?ai that does not grow in defined medium was cultivated in a complex medium, cholesterol was the only sterol detected. The fatty acids and sterol isolated from Phytomonas sp. and P. serpens grown in a chemically defined lipid-free medium indicated that they were able to biosynthesize fatty acids and ergosterol from acetate or from acetate precursors such as glucose or threonine.  相似文献

Lipopolysaccharides of three Mesorhizobium huakuii strains carried a number of amide-linked 3-hydroxylated fatty acids including: 3-OH-12:0, 3-OH-i-13:0, 3-OH-20:0, 3-OH-i-21:0, 3-OH-22:0, 3-OH-23:0 and unsaturated 3-OH-22:1. The first three of the above mentioned acids are the main amide-linked fatty acids in the LPS preparations. The main ester-bound fatty acids comprise 16:0, i-17:0, 18:0, 20:0 and 27-OH-28:0. Among minor constituents of lipid A 25-OH-26:0 and 29-OH-30:0 together with some non-polar fatty acids were found. Additionally, the presence of 4-oxo-20:0, 4-oxo-i-21:0 and 4-oxo-22:0 amide-bound fatty acids as well as the 27-oxo-28:0 ester-linked fatty acid were proved. To our knowledge oxo fatty acids are rare constituents of lipopolysaccharides and 27-oxo-28:0 was found for the first time in the LPS preparations from members of Rhizobiaceae.  相似文献

The cellular fatty acid composition of 14 strains of Caulobacter species and types, two species of Prosthecomicrobium, and two species of Asticcacaulis was determined by gas-liquid chromatography. In most of these bacteria, the major fatty acids were octadecenoic acid (C18:1), hexadecenoic acid (C16:1) and hexadecanoic acid (C16:0). Some cyclopropane and branched chain fatty acids were detected in addition to the straight chained acids. Hydroxytetradecanoic acid was an important component of P. enhydrum but significant amounts of hydroxy acids were not detected in other prosthecate bacteria examined.Abbreviations DEGS diethylene glycol succinate - A measare of association Dedicated to Prof. R. Fatty acid composition of lipids isolated from spores of different fern groups show differences between the families whereas species variations within the families are smaller. As in seed fats, the spore lipids are mainly triglycerides, with the exception of Osmunda where free fatty acids accumulate. The spore lipids contain as major components oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acid although those of the sporophylls contain C-20 polyunsaturated acids.  相似文献

Fatty acids in deep hydrothermal vent bivalves have been analyzed. Their composition is completely different from that of a littoral mussel collected in the Mediterranean sea. The distribution of fatty acids in the littoral mussel is characterized by a predominance of polyunsaturated fatty acids (20:5n-3, 22:6n-3) reflecting the planktonic origin of the food. Vent bivalve fatty acid distribution is dominated by an abundance of the monounsaturated acids (double bond in the n-7 position) 16:1n-7, 18:1n-7, and 20:1n-7 which are clearly of bacterial origin and give an indication of the symbiotic bacterial activity in the bivalves. Differences between the fatty acid composition of the bivalves from two hydrothermal sites (13 degrees N and Galapagos) and differences between the mantle and the gill were observed and are discussed with respect to vent activities at the two sites and species metabolic capacities as a function of ecological conditions.  相似文献

We have studied the influence of experimental hypothyroidism in the rat on the synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and on liver microsomal lipid fatty acid composition. Hypothyroid rats demonstrated an 80% decrease in delta 9 (stearate) desaturation and a 43% decrease in delta 6 (linoleate) desaturation. Liver microsomal fatty acid composition was altered in the hypothyroid animals with a significantly decreased proportion of arachidonate and increased proportions of linoleate, eicosa-8,11,14-trienoate, eicosapentaenoate and docosahexaenoate. The bulk of these changes occurred in both of the two major phospholipid components, phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine. All of the changes were corrected by treatment of the hypothyroid rat with 25 micrograms of tri-iodothyronine/100 g body wt. twice daily. The diminished delta 9 desaturation did not lead to any changes in fatty acid composition. The increased linoleate and decreased arachidonate levels may be due to the diminished delta 6 desaturase activity, the rate-controlling step in the conversion of linoleate into arachidonate. The increases in the proportions of the other polyunsaturated fatty acid components cannot be explained by changes in the synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, but are probably due to diminished utilization of these fatty acids.  相似文献

Fatty acid and carotenoid composition ofRhodotorula strains   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Lipid content and composition of fatty acids with 6–25 carbon atoms were studied on strains of the 13 pink or red yeast species belonging to the genus Rhodotorula. The total amount of lipid represented an average of 13% of the dry weight. The neutral and polar lipid fractions were analyzed separately. For all the strains studied, the major fatty acids in both fractions were oleic, linoleic and palmitic acids, which formed 80% of the total number of fatty acids. A notable amount of arachidonic acid, a precursor of eicosanoid hormones, was found in R. acheniorum, R. aurantiaca and R. bacarum. Depending on the strain, 1–10 carotenoid pigments were detected; β-carotene was always the major carotenoid present. Received: 13 December 1994 / Accepted: 18 May 1995  相似文献

Fatty acids of 16 strains of Selenomonas isolated from the human oral cavity were examined by gas-liquid chromatography. The strains showed similar patterns, characterized by the presence of straight-chain fatty acids in the range C11 to C18. Fatty acids of odd-numbered carbon atoms dominated and the major acids were n-pentadecanoate and 3-hydroxytridecanoate. The general fatty acid pattern of Selenomonas differed distinctly from those of other previously analysed anaerobic or microaerophilic Gram-negative bacilli.  相似文献
