Effect of high-intensity endurance training on isokinetic muscle power   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of high-intensity endurance training on isokinetic muscle power. Six male students majoring in physical-education participated in high intensity endurance training on a cycle ergometer at 90% of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) for 7 weeks. The duration of the daily exercise session was set so that the energy expenditure equalled 42 kJ.kg-1 of lean body mass. Peak knee extension power was measured at six different speeds (30 degrees, 60 degrees, 120 degrees, 180 degrees, 240 degrees, and 300 degrees.s-1) with an isokinetic dynamometer. After training, VO2max increased significantly from mean values of 51.2 ml.kg-1.min-1, SD 6.5 to 56.3 ml.kg-1.min-1, SD 5.3 (P less than 0.05). Isokinetic peak power at the lower test speeds (30 degrees, 60 degrees and 120 degrees.s-1) increased significantly (P less than 0.05). However, no significant differences in muscle peak power were found at the faster velocities of 180 degrees, 240 degrees, and 300 degrees.s-1. The percentage improvement was dependent on the initial muscle peak power of each subject and the training stimulus (intensity of cycle ergometer exercise).  相似文献

Five monozygotic twin pairs were submitted to a 10-week isokinetic strength training program and biochemical characteristics measured before and after training to determine the role of heredity in skeletal muscle adaptation, while 5 unrelated sedentary subjects served as control group. Experimental subjects performed twice 3 series of 5 bilateral reciprocal alternating knee flexions and extensions at a velocity of 90 degrees/s 5 times per week. Before and after the training period, for each subject, the peak muscular torque output was measured at the same velocity and the vastus lateralis muscle was biopsied for biochemical determinations. No significant change was observed in the control group. Training increased peak muscular torque output by 24%. The activities of hexokinase, malate dehydrogenase and 3-hydroxyacyl CoA dehydrogenase also increased significantly by 28, 26 and 38%, respectively. Interindividual variations in the response of these variables to training were noted but these were shown to be independent of the genotype. No overall effect of training was observed for oxoglutarate dehydrogenase activity (OGDH). However, changes were seen in individual pairs of twins and these were in opposite directions in some pairs compared to others, thus explaining the absence of a general training effect. Significant intrapair resemblance in the training response was present for OGDH (r = 0.76), indicating that the sensitivity to isokinetic strength training for OGDH was highly variable, not random and probably genetically determined.  相似文献

Isokinetic training of right and left quadriceps femoris was undertaken three times per week for 16 weeks. One group of subjects (n = 13) trained at an angular velocity of 4.19 rad.s-1 and a second group (n = 10) at 1.05 rad.s-1. A control group (n = 10) performed no training. Maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) of the quadriceps, and peak pedal velocity nu p,peak) and peak power output (Wpeak) during all-out cycling (against loads equivalent to 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14% MVC) were assessed before and after training. The two training groups did not differ significantly from each other in their training response to any of the performance variables (P > 0.05). No significant difference in MVC was observed for any group after the 16-week period (P = 0.167). The post-training increases in average Wpeak (7%) and nu p,peak (6%) during the cycle tests were each significantly different from the control group response (P = 0.018 and P = 0.008, respectively). It is concluded that 16 weeks of isokinetic strength training of the knee extensors is able to significantly improve nu p, peak and Wpeak during spring cycling, an activity which demands considerable involvement of the trained muscle group but with its own distinct pattern of coordination.  相似文献

Progressive strength training can lead to substantial increases in maximal strength and mass of trained muscles, even in older women and men, but little information is available about the effects of strength training on functional capabilities and balance. Thus, the effects of 21 weeks of heavy resistance training--including lower loads performed with high movement velocities--twice a week on isometric maximal force (ISOmax) and force-time curve (force produced in 500 milliseconds, F0-500) and dynamic 1 repetition maximum (1RM) strength of the leg extensors, 10-m walking time (10WALK) and dynamic balance test (DYN.D) were investigated in 26 middle-aged (MI; 52.8 +/- 2.4 years) and 22 older women (O; 63.8 +/- 3.8 years). 1RM, ISOmax, and F0-500 increased significantly in MI by 28 +/- 10%, 20 +/- 19%, 31 +/- 34%, and in O by 27 +/- 8%, 20 +/- 16%, 18 +/- 45%, respectively. 10WALK (MI and O, p < 0.001) shortened and DYN.D improved (MI and O, p < 0.001). The present strength-training protocol led to large increases in maximal and explosive strength characteristics of leg extensors and in walking speed, as well to an improvement in the present dynamic balance test performance in both age groups. Although training-induced increase in explosive strength is an important factor for aging women, there are other factors that contribute to improvements in dynamic balance capacity. This study indicates that total body heavy resistance training, including explosive dynamic training, may be applied in rehabilitation or preventive exercise protocols in aging women to improve dynamic balance capabilities.  相似文献

The present study investigated the influence of a 12-week electromyostimulation (EMS) training program performed by elite rugby players. Twenty-five rugby players participated in the study, 15 in an electrostimulated group and the remaining 10 in a control group. EMS was conducted on the knee extensor, plantar flexor, and gluteus muscles. During the first 6 weeks, training sessions were carried out 3 times a week and during the last 6 weeks, once a week. Isokinetic torque of the knee extensors was determined at different eccentric and concentric angular velocities ranging from -120 to 360 degrees .s(-1). Scrummaging and full squat strength, vertical jump height and sprint-running times were also evaluated. After the first 6 weeks of EMS, only the squat strength was significantly improved (+8.3 +/- 6.5%; p < 0.01). After the 12th week, the -120 degrees .s(-1) maximal eccentric, 120 and 240 degrees .s(-1) maximal concentric torque (p < 0.05), squat strength (+15.0 +/- 8.0%; p < 0.001), squat jump (+10.0 +/- 9.5%; p < 0.01), and drop jump from a 40-cm height (+6.6 +/- 6.1%; p < 0.05) were significantly improved. No significant change was observed for the control group. A 12-week EMS training program demonstrated beneficial effects on muscle strength and power in elite rugby players on particular tests. However, rugby skills such as scrummaging and sprinting were not enhanced.  相似文献

The effects of a 10-wk unilateral knee extension strength training (ST) program on peak power (PP) and peak movement velocity (PV), at given absolute (force load) and relative (same % of 1 repetition maximum) resistances (loads), were examined in 30 older men [64 yr (7 SD)] and 32 older women [62 yr (6 SD)]. PP increased significantly in both men and women at the same absolute (P < 0.001) and relative loads (P < 0.01) with ST. Men had a significantly greater increase in relative PP than women with ST at 60% (P < 0.01) and 70% (P < 0.001) of 1 repetition maximum when covarying for baseline differences and age. However, when each subject was tested at the same absolute load and when PP was normalized for the muscle volume of the trained knee extensors (i.e., absolute muscle power quality), women increased by 9% (P < 0.05), whereas men did not change. Both men and women increased their absolute PV (P < 0.001) but decreased their relative PV significantly with ST (P < 0.05). However, when baseline values and age were covaried, women had significantly less of a decrease in relative PV quality with ST than men (P < 0.01), although the difference was small. These normalized data suggest that ST-induced increases in PP depend on muscular hypertrophy in men, but not in women, providing further support for the hypothesis developed from our previous report (Ivey FM, Tracy BL, Lemmer JT, NessAiver M, Metter EJ, Fozard JL and Hurley BF. One-leg exercise of 5 weeks duration in 10 healthy middleaged women resulted in a significant increment of muscle force in the exercising leg and in a less, but at some angular velocities also significant, increase in the nonexercising leg. The thickness of subcutaneous tissue measured by ultrasound and skinfold caliper decreased, while muscle thickness increased in the exercising leg only. The increased thickness of muscle tissue was associated with an increase in the relative number and relative fiber area of type II fibers in the exercising leg. The mean fiber area of type IIB fibers increased significantly as well as the activity of lactate dehydrogenase and myokinase. The decrease of thickness of subcutaneous adipose tissue was not associated with a significant decrease in fat cell size and was probably due to geometrical factors secondary to hypertrophy of the underlying muscle. It is concluded that the relationship between lean and fat components of the human thigh is significantly influenced by changes in the activity of the thigh skeletal muscles, but a local dynamic strength training program can hardly be used for local emptying of the fat depot over the exercising muscles.  相似文献

Previous studies have demonstrated increases in peak torque (PT) and decreases in acceleration time (ACC) after only 2 days of resistance training, and other studies have reported improvements in isokinetic performance after 5 days of creatine supplementation. Consequently, there may be a combined benefit of creatine supplementation and short-term resistance training for eliciting rapid increases in muscle strength, which may be important for short-term rehabilitation and return-to-play for previously injured athletes. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to examine the effects of 3 days of isokinetic resistance training combined with 8 days of creatine monohydrate supplementation on PT, mean power output (MP), ACC, surface electromyography (EMG), and mechanomyography (MMG) of the vastus lateralis muscle during maximal concentric isokinetic leg extension muscle actions. Twenty-five men (mean age +/- SD = 21 +/- 3 years, stature = 177 +/- 6 cm, and body mass = 80 +/- 12 kg) volunteered to participate in this 9-day, double-blind, placebo-controlled study and were randomly assigned to either the creatine (CRE; n = 13) or placebo (PLA; n = 12) group. The CRE group ingested the treatment drink (280 kcal; 68 g carbohydrate; 10.5 g creatine), whereas the PLA group received an isocaloric placebo (70 g carbohydrate). Two servings per day (morning and afternoon) were administered in the laboratory on days 1-6, with only 1 serving on days 7-8. Before (pre; day 1) and after (post; day 9) the resistance training, maximal voluntary concentric isokinetic leg extensions at 30, 150, and 270 degrees x s(-1) were performed on a calibrated Biodex System 3 dynamometer. Three sets of 10 repetitions at 150 degrees x s(-1) were performed on days 3, 5, and 7. Peak torque increased (p = 0.005; eta(2) = 0.296), whereas ACC decreased (p < 0.001; eta(2) = 0.620), from pretraining to posttraining for both the CRE and PLA groups at each velocity (30, 150, and 270 degrees x s(-1)). Peak torque increased by 13% and 6%, whereas ACC decreased by 42% and 34% for the CRE and PLA groups, respectively, but these differences were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). There were no changes in MP, EMG, or MMG amplitude; however, EMG median frequency (MDF) increased, and MMG MDF increased at 30 degrees x s(-1), from pretraining to posttraining for both the CRE and PLA groups. These results indicated that 3 days of isokinetic resistance training was sufficient to elicit small, but significant, improvements in peak strength (PT) and ACC for both the CRE and PLA groups. Although the greater relative improvements in PT and ACC for the CRE group were not statistically significant, these findings may be useful for rehabilitation or strength and conditioning professionals who may need to rapidly increase the strength of a patient or athlete within 9 days.  相似文献

Muscle fibers are generally fractionated into type I, IIA, and IIX fibers. Type I fibers specialize in long duration contractile activities and are found in abundance in elite endurance athletes. Conversely type IIA and IIX fibers facilitate short-duration anaerobic activities and are proportionally higher in elite strength and power athletes. A central area of interest concerns the capacity of training to increase or decrease fiber types to enhance high-performance activities. Although interconversions between type IIA and IIX are well recognized in the literature, there are conflicting studies regarding the capacity of type I and II fibers to interconvert. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to analyze the effects of various forms of exercise on type I and type II interconversions. Possible variables that may increase type II fibers and decrease type I fibers are discussed, and these include high velocity isokinetic contractions; ballistic movements such as bench press throws and sprints. Conversely, a shift from type II to type I fibers may occur under longer duration, higher volume endurance type events. Special care is taken to provide practical applications for both the scientist and the athlete.  相似文献

Forty-eight adult Wistar rats were divided into four groups for experimentation. The group I was used as a control and groups II, III and IV underwent progressive treadmill training. Samples of the red and mixed portions of m. gastrocnemius (lateral head) were stained with the histochemical technique of m-ATPase to determine the percentage of type I, IIA and IIB fibres, and with NADH-TR, in order to quantify variations in "low-oxidative" fibre percentages. The results showed that progressive training did not lead to statistical variations in the percentage of type I fibres. However, the proportion of type IIA fibres rose, while that of IIB fibres fell, in both cases significantly. Variations were more marked in mixed than in red Gastrocnemius muscle. A clear decrease was noted in "low-oxidative" fibres, which were virtually absent from red portion. This decrease was more marked, and occurred more rapidly, than in type IIB fibres.  相似文献

In 5 healthy male subjects the changes in muscle fibre conduction velocity, mean power frequency, mean EMG voltage, and force in the quadriceps were measured during submaximal fatiguing contractions, ranging from 60 to 100% of maximum force. Surface EMG was recorded from vastus lateralis. The analysis was divided into 2 parts - before and after force had begun to decline (endurance point). The conduction velocity and mean power frequency declined less before the endurance point than after this point. For all forces, the mean EMG voltage increased up to the endurance point. After the endurance point, the effect of fatigue had a decreasing influence on mean EMG voltage.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to test the hypotheses that, under isovelocity conditions, older compared with young humans would 1). be slower to reach target velocity and 2). exhibit a downward shift in the torque-velocity and power-velocity relationships in the ankle dorsiflexor and knee extensor muscles. Reliability of isometric, isokinetic and isoinertial modalities for quadriceps strength evaluation, and the relation between quadriceps strength and physical function was investigated in 29 total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients, with an average age of 63 years. Isometric maximal voluntary contraction torque, isokinetic peak torque, and isoinertial one-repetition maximum load of the involved and uninvolved quadriceps were evaluated as well as objective (walking parameters) and subjective physical function (WOMAC). Reliability was good and comparable for the isometric, isokinetic, and isoinertial strength outcomes on both sides (intraclass correlation coefficient range: 0.947–0.966; standard error of measurement range: 5.1–9.3%). Involved quadriceps strength was significantly correlated to walking speed (r range: 0.641–0.710), step length (r range: 0.685–0.820) and WOMAC function (r range: 0.575–0.663), independent from the modality (P < 0.05). Uninvolved quadriceps strength was also significantly correlated to walking speed (r range: 0.413–0.539), step length (r range: 0.514–0.608) and WOMAC function (r range: 0.374–0.554) (P < 0.05), except for WOMAC function/isokinetic peak torque (P > 0.05). In conclusion, isometric, isokinetic, and isoinertial modalities ensure valid and reliable assessment of quadriceps muscle strength in TKA patients.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of medicine ball training on the strength and power in young female handball athletes. Twenty-one young female handball players (age, 16.9 ± 1.2 years) were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Experimental group (n = 11) participated in a 12-week medicine ball training program incorporated into the regular training session, whereas controls (n = 10) participated only in the regular training. Performance in the medicine ball throws in standing and sitting positions, 1 repetition maximum (1RM) bench and shoulder press, and power test at 2 different loads (30 and 50% of 1RM) on bench and shoulder press were assessed at pre- and posttraining testing. The athletes participating in the medicine ball training program made significantly greater gains in all medicine ball throw tests compared with the controls (p < 0.01). Also, the experimental group made significantly greater gains in bench and shoulder press power than control group (p < 0.05). Both training groups (E) and (C) significantly (p < 0.05) increased 1RM bench and shoulder strength, with no differences observed between the groups. Additionally, medicine ball throw tests showed stronger correlation with power tests, than with 1RM tests. These data suggest that 12-week medicine ball training, when incorporated into a regular training session, can provide greater sport-specific training improvements in the upper body for young female handball players.  相似文献

Twenty-three subjects isokinetically trained the right and left quadriceps femoris, three times per week for 16 weeks; one group (n=13) trained at an angular velocity of 4.19 rad · s–1 and a second group (n=10), at 1.05 rad · s–1. A control group (n=10) performed no training. Isometric endurance time at 60% quadriceps maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), mean power output and work done (W) during all-out cycling, and the muscle buffer value (B) and carnosine concentration of biopsy samples from the vastus lateralis, were all assessed before and after training. The two training groups did not differ significantly from each other in their training response to any of these variables (P < 0.05). No significant difference in either 60% MVC endurance time or impulse [(endurance time × force) at 60% MVC] was observed for any group after the 16 week period (P > 0.05). However, the post-training increase (9%) in W during high-intensity cycling was greater in the training group than in the control group (P=0.04). NeitherB nor carnosine concentration showed any significant change following training (P=0.56 andP=0.37, respectively). It is concluded that 16 weeks of isokinetic training of the knee extensors enables subjects to do more work during high-intensity cycling. Although the precise adaptations responsible for the improved performance have yet to be identified, they are unlikely to include an increase inB.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to test the effect of creatine supplement on the size of the extra- and intracellular compartments and on the increase of isokinetic force during a strength training-program. Twenty-five healthy male subjects (age 22.0+/-2.9 years) participated in this experiment. Seven subjects formed the control-group. They did not complete any training and did not have any dietary supplement. The eighteen other subjects were randomly divided into a creatine- (n = 8) and a placebo-group (n = 10). They were submitted to a controlled strength-training program for 42 days followed by a detraining period of 21 days. Creatine and placebo were given over a period of 9 weeks. The size of the body water compartments was assessed by bioimpedance spectroscopy and the isokinetic force was determined during a single squat by means of an isokinetic dynamometer. These measurements were completed beforehand, at the end of the training period, and after the determining period. Both placebo- and creatine-group increased the isokinetic force by about 6% after the training period, showing that creatine ingestion does not induce a higher increase of the force measured during a single movement. No change in body mass was observed in the control- and placebo-groups during the entire experiment period while the body mass of the creatine-group was increased by 2 kg (P < 0.001). This change can be attributed partially to an increase (P = 0.039) in the body water content (+1.11), and more specifically, to an increase (P < 0.001) in the volume of the inter-cellular compartment (+0.61). Nevertheless, the relative volumes of the body water compartments remained constant and therefore the gain in body mass cannot be attributed to water retention, but probably to dry matter growth accompanied with a normal water volume.  相似文献

The effect of muscle hypertrophy on the relationship between magnetic resonance (MR) relaxation time and muscle fibre composition was investigated. Relaxation time and muscle fibre composition were measured in five subjects before and after a 20-week period of strength training. Muscle fibre composition in all subjects exhibited a significant shift to a predominance of fast-twitch (FT) fibres as a result of 20-week strength training (% area FT fibres: mean values from 49.8%, SD 17.9% to 57%, SD 5.6%; P less than 0.05). Longitudinal relaxation time (T1) and transverse relaxation time (T2) were prolonged significantly after strength training (T1 mean values from 334.9 ms, SD 13.6 to 359.0 ms, SD 9.0, P less than 0.001; T2 from 27.5 ms, SD 0.9 to 30.8 ms, SD 2.3, P less than 0.05). A constant relationship was observed in changes caused by strength training in muscle fibre composition (% area FT) and relaxation time, with a high correlation obtained between both parameters. These results indicate that MR relaxation time can be used for non-invasive estimation of muscle fibre composition.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 2 days of isokinetic training of the forearm flexors and extensors on strength and electromyographic (EMG) amplitude for the agonist and antagonist muscles. Seventeen men (mean +/- SD age = 21.9 +/- 2.8 years) were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups: (a) a training group (TRN; n = 8), or (b) a control group (CTL; n = 9). The subjects in the TRN group were tested for maximal isometric and concentric isokinetic (randomly ordered velocities of 60, 180, and 300 degrees x s(-1)) torque of the dominant forearm flexors and extensors before (pretest) and after (posttest) 2 days of isokinetic strength training. Each training session involved 6 sets of 10 maximal concentric isokinetic muscle actions of the forearm flexors and extensors at a velocity of 180 degrees x s(-1). The subjects in the CTL group were also tested for strength but did not perform any training. Surface EMG signals were detected from the biceps brachii and triceps brachii muscles during the strength testing. The results indicated that there were no significant (p > 0.05) pre- to post-test changes in forearm flexion and extension torque or EMG amplitude for the agonist and antagonist muscles. Thus, unlike previous studies of the quadriceps femoris muscles, these findings for the forearm flexors and extensors suggested that 2 days of isokinetic training may not be sufficient to elicit significant increases in strength. These results may have implications for the number of visits that are required for rehabilitation after injury, surgery, or both.  相似文献

Twenty-one male volunteers (ages 23-25 years) were tested pre- and post training for maximal knee extension power at five specific speeds (1.05, 2.09, 3.14, 4.19, and 5.24 rad X s-1) with an isokinetic dynamometer. Subjects were assigned randomly to one of three experimental groups; group S, training at 1.05 rad X s-1 (n = 8), group I, training at 3.14 rad X s-1 (n = 8) or group F, training at 5.24 rad X s-1 (n = 5). Subjects trained the knee extensors by performing 10 maximal voluntary efforts in group S, 30 in group I and 50 in group F six times a week for 8 weeks. Though group S showed significant increases in power at all test speeds, the percent increment decreased with test speed from 24.8% at 1.05 rad X s-1 to 8.6% at 5.24 rad X s-1. Group I showed almost similar increment in power (18.5-22.4 at all test speeds except at 2.09 rad X s-1 (15.4%). On the other hand, group F enhanced power only at faster test speeds (23.9% at 4.19 rad X s-1 and 22.8% at 5.24 rad X s-1).  相似文献

A decreased hamstring:quadriceps (H:Q) ratio may put the hamstrings and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) at increased risk of injury. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate H:Q ratios of 12 female National Collegiate Athletic Association soccer players, and to test the effects of a 6-week strength training program on these ratios. Each subject completed 2 practice sessions before a pretest. Subjects then completed 6 weeks of strength training that included the addition of 2 hamstring specific exercises, followed by a posttest. Peak torque during concentric and eccentric actions for both hamstrings and quadriceps was measured with an isokinetic dynamometer. Each muscle action was tested at 3 angular velocities in the following order: concentric 240, 180, and 60 degrees x s(-1) and eccentric 60, 180, and 240 degrees x s(-1). The H:Q strength ratio was evaluated using concentric muscle actions (concentric hamstrings:concentric quadriceps). This method is commonly used and is thus called the conventional ratio. Because concentric actions do not occur simultaneously in opposing muscles, a more functional assessment compares eccentric hamstring actions to concentric quadriceps actions. This functional ratio was also analyzed. Mean conventional and functional H:Q ratio data were analyzed using separate analysis of variance procedures with repeated measures on all factors (2 [Test] x 2 [Leg] x 3 [Angular Velocity]). The results revealed a significant main effect for factor (F test) with the functional ratio (p < 0.05) but not for the conventional ratio. The mean functional ratio increased from 0.96 +/- 0.09 in pretest to 1.08 +/- 0.11 in posttest. These results suggest that 6 weeks of strength training that emphasizes hamstrings is sufficient to significantly increase the functional ratio. The functional ratio after training exceeded 1.0, which is specifically recommended for prevention of ACL injuries.  相似文献
