Individual features of the regional interhemispheric relations in the brain were studied in dogs during alimentary conditioning. The electrical activity was recorded from symmetrical anterior (frontal and motor cortices) and posterior (visual and auditory cortices) areas of the neocortex. Comparison between the averaged left and right intrahemispheric EEG coherences revealed a dynamic character of interhemispheric relations dependent on the stage of conditioning. Individual features were shown. In a dog with strong type of the nervous system, in the anterior brain regions, the EEG coherence was higher in the left hemisphere than in the right one, whereas, on the contrary, in the posterior regions, the values were higher in the right than in the left hemisphere. In dogs with weak type of the nervous system, there was an inverse relationship. Thus, the spatial organization of the cortical electrical activity in the associative and projection brain areas was different.  相似文献

1. Frontal and parieto-occipital electroencephalography (EEG) of young (4 months-old) and aged (17 and 22 months-old) Wistar rats were analyzed, both during movement and during waking immobility. 2. The levels of monoamines, serotonin and their metabolites were measured from the frontal cortex, parieto-occipital cortex, hippocampus, brainstem and midbrain. 3. In aged rats, as compared to young rats, the most apparent changes of the quantitative EEG spectrum were the decreased amplitude of alpha (5-10 Hz) and beta (10-20 Hz) frequency bands in the frontal and parieto-occipital cortices during both movement and waking immobility behavior (p less than 0.05). 4. The levels of dopamine (DA), homovanillinic acid (HVA), serotonin (5-HT), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) or the ratios of 5-HT/5-HIAA and DA/HVA did not differ between young and aged rats in any brain region studied, with the exceptions of brainstem DA and parieto-occipital 5-HIAA, which were elevated in aged rats (p less than 0.05). 5. In the frontal cortex, hippocampus and midbrain, noradrenaline (NA) levels of aged rats were slightly increased as compared to young rats (p less than 0.05). 6. NA levels of the parieto-occipital cortex and brainstem did not change during aging. 7. Furthermore, there were no clear correlations between the decreased amplitude of the quantitative EEG spectrum and monoamine or serotonin concentrations, or the ratios of 5-HT/5-HIAA and DA/HVA in the cerebral cortex of aging Wistar rat.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Four dogs were trained to perform a conditioned alimentary response to a sound stimulus. The EEG was recorded from six pairs of chronically implanted neocortical electrodes. The EEG spectra and coherence functions between the neighboring derivations of each of the hemispheres were analyzed in the theta, alpha, beta 1 and beta 2 frequency ranges. At the first stages of conditioning, the percent of cases increased when the highest mean values of EEG frequency were localized in the left hemisphere. Later on the percent of cases, when the mean coherence values in the left hemisphere were higher than in the right hemisphere, also increased. At the stage of conditioned response stabilization, this asymmetry either disappeared or the right hemisphere became more active than the left one. The spatial localization of the maximal values of the EEG frequency was different for different frequency ranges. The highest values in the beta 1 range were more frequently registered in the posterior cortical regions and in the beta 2 range they were revealed, predominantly, in the anterior areas. The maximal values of coherence dominated in the anterior regions and their spatial distribution was similar for different frequencies. Thus, the initial stages of conditioning are accompanied by activation of the left hemisphere.  相似文献

A mesoscopic field-theoretic approach is compared with neural network and brain imaging approaches to understanding brain dynamics. Analysis of high spatiotemporal resolution rabbit electroencephalogram (EEG) reveals neural fields in the form of spatial patterns in amplitude (AM) and phase (PM) modulation of gamma and beta carrier waves that serve to classify EEGs from trials with differing conditioned stimuli (CS+/−). Paleocortex exemplified by olfactory EEG has one AM–PM pattern at a time that forms by an input-dependent phase transition. Neocortex shows multiple overlapping AM–PM patterns before and during presentation of CSs. Modeling suggests that neocortex is stabilized in a scale-free state of self-organized criticality, enabling cooperative domains to form virtually instantaneously by phase transitions ranging in size from a few hypercolumns to an entire hemisphere. Self-organized local domains precede formation of global domains that supervene and contribute global modulations to local domains. This mechanism is proposed to explain Gestalt formation in perception.  相似文献

The scaling properties of human EEG have so far been analyzed predominantly in the framework of detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA). In particular, these studies suggested the existence of power-law correlations in EEG. In DFA, EEG time series are tacitly assumed to be made up of fluctuations, whose scaling behavior reflects neurophysiologically important information and polynomial trends. Even though these trends are physiologically irrelevant, they must be eliminated (detrended) to reliably estimate such measures as Hurst exponent or fractal dimension. Here, we employ the diffusion entropy method to study the scaling behavior of EEG. Unlike DFA, this method does not rely on the assumption of trends superposed on EEG fluctuations. We find that the growth of diffusion entropy of EEG increments of awake subjects with closed eyes is arrested only after approximately 0.5 s. We demonstrate that the salient features of diffusion entropy dynamics of EEG, such as the existence of short-term scaling, asymptotic saturation, and alpha wave modulation, may be faithfully reproduced using a dissipative, first-order, stochastic differential equation—an extension of the Langevin equation. The structure of such a model is utterly different from the “noise+trend” paradigm of DFA. Consequently, we argue that the existence of scaling properties for EEG dynamics is an open question that necessitates further studies.  相似文献

The neocortex and the thalamus constitute a unified oscillatory machine during different states of vigilance. The cortically generated slow sleep oscillation has the virtue of grouping other sleep rhythms, including those arising in the thalamus, within complex wave-sequences. Despite the coherent oscillatory activity in corticothalamic circuits, on the functional side there is dissociation between thalamus and neocortex during sleep. While dorsal thalamic neurons undergo inhibitory processes induced by prolonged spikebursts of GABAergic thalamic reticular neurons, the cortex displays, periodically, a rich spontaneous activity and preserves the capacity to process internally generated signals. Simultaneous intracellular recordings from thalamic and cortical neurons show that short-term plasticity processes occur after prolonged and rhythmic spike-bursts fired by thalamic and cortical neurons during slow-wave sleep oscillations. This may serve to support resonant phenomena and reorganize corticothalamic circuitry.  相似文献

非线性科学于20世纪60年代发展起来,被誉为20世纪自然科学的“第三次革命”,己广泛应用于生物、物理、经济、通讯及天文学等领域。脑电图(EEG)反映了作为非线性系统的大脑的电活动,体现出混沌行为。在癫痫病症的EEG研究中,混沌特性得到了很好的证明。在精神分裂症和老年痴呆等病症的EEG研究中,混沌的作用也体现得越来越明显。本文综述了近年来非线性动力学在脑电信号分析中应用的进展,以期获得在健康和疾病状态下对大脑神经动力系统的更好理解。  相似文献

Simple psychological postulates are presented which are used to derive possible anatomical and physiological substrates of operant conditioning. These substrates are compatible with much psychological data about operants. A main theme is that aspects of operant and respondent conditioning share a single learning process. Among the phenomena which arise are the following: UCS-activated arousal; formation of conditioned, or secondary, reinforcers; a non-specific arousal system distinct from sensory and motor representations whose activation is required for sensory processing; polyvalent cells responsive to the sum of CS and UCS inputs and anodal d.c. potential shifts; neural loci responsive to the combined effect of sensory events and drive deprivation; “go”-like or “now print”-like mechanisms which, for example, influence incentive-motivational increases in general activity; a mechanism for learning repetitively to press a bar which electrically stimulates suitable arousal loci in the absence of drive reduction; uniformly distributed potentials, driven by the CS, in the “cerebral cortex” of a trained network; the distinction between short-term and long-term memory, and the possibility of eliminating transfer from short-term to long-term memory in the absence of suitable arousal; networks that can learn and perform arbitrarily complex sequences of acts or sensory memories, without continuous control by sensory feedback, whose rate of performance can be regulated by the level of internal arousal; networks with idetic memory; network analogs of “therapeutic resistance” and “repression”; the possibility of conditioning the sensory feedback created by a motor act to the neural controls of this act, with consequences for sensory-motor adaptation and child development. This paper introduces explicit minimal anatomies and physiological rules that formally give rise to analogous phenomena. These networks consider only aspects of positive conditioning. They are derived from simple psychological facts.  相似文献

The study was aimed to reveal the subbands of correlated changes in power spectral density of brain electrical activity (EA), including the low-voltage (up to 10 microV) high-frequency (HF) components (40-200 Hz) in dogs during instrumental conditioning by means of factor analysis. The values of the EA spectral density in interstimulus intervals calculated with a resolution of 1 Hz were used for subsequent factor analysis (the standard principle component technique with varimax rotation). Twenty factors could explain about 80% of total variance. The groups of frequencies which were presented by comparatively narrow peaks (2-3 points) of high loads (more than 0.6) of single factors ("stable" factors) were taken into consideration. In the process of conditioning the factor organization of the EA became substantially complicated, the number of the "stable" factors increased. It was originally shown that the high loads of these factors divided the HF band in comparatively narrow frequency subbands, which appear to reflect the functional mosaics in the neocortex.  相似文献

Many mammals have specialized nose-tips with glabrous and often wet skin, called rhinaria. The function of the rhinarium is unknown in most species. Rhinaria differ not only in shape and skin structure, but also in skin temperature. They are considerably colder in carnivorans than in herbivorous artio- and perissodactyls. Domestic dogs are carnivorans and their noses often feel cold, such that they can be used as an abundant and easily accessible model species. We performed a study on rhinarium temperature in dogs under various ambient temperatures as well as in different behavioral and physiological contexts, breeds, and age groups. The rhinaria of adult, alert, and comfortable dogs are colder than ambient temperature from 30 °C (approximately 5 °C colder) down to a break point at about 15 °C. At an ambient temperature of 0 °C, rhinarium temperature is approximately 8 °C and the decrease in skin surface temperature with decreasing ambient temperature has not yet leveled off. The dog rhinarium warms up under a number of circumstances. In contrast to the continuously warm rhinaria of herbivores, our results suggest strongly that the cold state is the operating state of the dog rhinarium.  相似文献
