Léon Athanase Gosselin (1815–1887) et ses recherches sur les maladies du testicule

Leon Athanase Gosselin was one of the greatest French surgeons of the 19th century. He successfully directed many university surgical departments and excelled in orthopaedics, anatomy, physiology and urology. Thanks to his advanced research into testicular, scrotal and spermatic cord diseases and their effects on fertilisation and virility, Gosselin is rightly considered to have been a great andrologist before this branch of medical science had been recognised.

Effets de l’Oxygenation du Milieu d’Incubation des Cotyledons de Ricin sur les Flux de Protons et sur l’Absorption du Saccharose

Some of the effects of oxygen concentration in the external medium bathing castor bean cotyledons were investigated. At 700 μM O₂, the sucrose-dependent proton influx was dependent on external pH while sucrose influx was independent of pH between 4,5 and 6; proton influx and sucrose influx were both dependent on external sucrose concentration; both were saturated above 50 mM sucrose. The stoichiometry H+/S decreased with increasing pH and sucrose concentration. These data were consistent with the results obtained in stirred or aerated external medium. Oxygen consumption, acidification of the medium, sucrose-dependent proton influx and sucrose uptake increased with increasing oxygen concentration up to 700 μM where saturation was reached. Bubbling with air (O₂, 160 μM) resulted in the same increase despite lower oxygen concentration. It is suggested that not only O₂ concentration but also CO₂ concentration act on O₂ consumption, and proton and sucrose fluxes.

Evaluation de la circoncision réalisée en ambulatoire chez l’adulte: impact sur les M.S.T. et sur la sexualité

With the help of a questionnaire, we assessed the impact of circumcision, practiced on adult patients for various indications, on sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and sexuality. Recurrent or obstinate STD represented the most frequent indication (75%). Subsequentely almost 96% of the patients declared to be satisfied with their sexuality and nearly 80% did not mention any recurrence of their disease.     

Phénoménologie de la non-observance dans les maladies chroniques

One patient out of two does not follow medical recommendations. This non-adherence concerns all the aspects of the care, and they are often bunched. The purpose of this article is to present a phenomenological analysis of non-adherence to long-term therapies, on one hand by relying on empirical data found in the literature, on the other hand by referring to concepts developed by two disciplinary fields: the philosophy of mind and neuroeconomics. We propose that non-adherence is associated with two characteristics: on one hand impatience, which makes that certain individuals give the priority to the present. On the other hand, weakness of will, which prevents them from deciding wholeheartedly to give the priority in the future. We suggest that these two characteristics are psychologically linked.

Zusammenfassung Es wurden hier manche beschränkten Sippen der französischen Alpen zitiert und revidiert. Einige Gebiete der französischen Alpenseite sind bis jetzt, besonders in den Südalpen, floristisch noch nicht gänzlich bekannt.Auch können wir gegenwärtig die gewisse Herkunft zahlreicher beschränkter Sippen kaum bestimmen; es fehlen noch genaue Angaben dazu. Übrigens gibt es in den Floren, Katalogen, Arealkarten u.s.w. manche irrtümlichen Angaben mit welchen wir öfters rechnen müssen.Es kommen also in den französischen Alpen knapp 12 bis 13 beschränkte Endemiten vor, die meisten in den Südalpen.Etwa 40 Sippen wurden in den französischen Floren irrigerweise für die Alpen angegeben, oder sind gegenwärtig vermutlich verschwunden.
