Passiflora tacanensis, a new species from southern Mexico, is described and illustrated. It was discovered during the course of a taxonomic revision ofPassiflora subgenusDecaloba supersectionCieca and is assigned to that group of apetalous passion flowers.Passiflora tacanensis is known only from one fruiting herbarium specimen that was collected in southern Mexico on Volcán Tacaná in a high mesophytic forest. It is distinguished from its closest relatives,P. coriacea, P. sexocellata, P. mcvaughiana, andP. xiikzodz, by its foliose stipules, leaves that lack laminar nectaries but possess petiolar nectaries, and wide seeds with a chalazal beak that is not well developed. 相似文献

Two stingless bees species of the genus Melipona, M. beecheii and M. yucatanica, are the only ones reported for the Yucatan Peninsula. The natural distribution of M. beecheii ranges from southern Mexico to Costa Rica, that of M. yucatanica from south Mexico to Guatemala. Colonies of both species occur in a variety of habitats and show adaptations to local conditions denoting the occurrence of ecotypes. The ITS2 of ribosomal DNA has been characterized in both species and its utility to discriminate among colonies has been investigated through RFLP experiments. The ITS2 region is unusually long, 1788 bp in M. beecheii and 1845 bp in M. yucatanica (including the 3′ end of the 5.8S gene and partial 5′ of the 28S gene). Mean nucleotide divergence between both ITS2 sequences is 16% (excluding sites with insertions/deletions) and 20% when the insertions/deletions are taken into account. The G+C content in both sequences is close to 53%. The PCR-RFLP assay was performed with 12 restriction enzymes on colonies of M. beecheii from Mexico (Yucatan, Campeche and Chiapas) Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala, and of M. yucatanica from Mexico (Yucatan) and Guatemala. The restriction patterns obtained allow to discriminating colonies of both species with different origins. Both kinds of data are thus useful for assessing intra and interspecific genetic variability and for developing appropriate conservation strategies for these species. Further evidence for a specialized plant-pollinator relationship in the weevil pollinatedCarludovicoideae (Cyclanthaceae) is presented, with emphasis on the previously uninvestigated genusSphaeradenia. Weevils use the carludovicoid inflorescence for feeding, shelter, mating, and oviposition, the last-mentioned activity in the usually caducous staminate flowers. While visiting the inflorescence, they effect pollination. Adaptations, advantages, and consequences for this sophisticated system, both of the plants and pollinators, are discussed. 相似文献

During a revisionary study ofSpigelia, three new species from Mexico were discovered. Two of these new species appear to be narrow endemics, one in the state of
Chiapas and one in the state of Guerrero, and the third is more widespread in Mexico and Guatemala. These new species are
described, illustrated, and distinguished from other North AmericanSpigelias. 相似文献

A total of 20 plants belonging to different genera (Acalypha, Ageratum, Ambrosia, Bidens, Blechum, Caesalpinia, Calea, Carlowrightia, Croton, Eugenia (2), Furcraea, Stenandrium, Tephrosia, Trichilia (2), Randia (3), and Vitex) were selected from native flora of the Yucatan peninsula. All plants selected were collected and separated in to leaves,
stems and roots. These were then extracted with ethanol and their crude extracts (54) were evaluated against Alternaria tagetica, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Fusarium oxysporum and Rhizopus sp. using the filter paper disc diffusion assay. Results lead to the selection of 33 crude extracts active against at least
one of the target strains, which were assessed to determine their ability to inhibit the mycelial growth of the pathogenic
fungi in a second antifungal assay. The results of this assay indicated that extracts from the roots of Croton chichenensis were the most promising, with a wide activity spectrum against all pathogens tested in both assays with inhibition percentages
of greater than 60%. Furthermore, extracts from leaves of Ambrosia hispida, Trichilia minutiflora, and roots of Acalypha gaumeri were able to cause growth inhibition against two or three pathogen strains (≥50%). Studies of these active extracts should
be continued at different levels. In general, results revealed a good bioactive potential of the flora from the Yucatan peninsula
to produce metabolites with potential applications as botanical pesticides in the near future. 相似文献

Elaphoglossum trichomidiatum is described from northeastern Mexico. The new species is a member of theE. petiolatum comples, which is widespread in tropical America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands. It is unique in the complex
and in sectionLepidoglossa in bearing trichomidia on the abaxial blade surface. 相似文献

Aqueous leachates and a CHCl3-MeOH (1:1) extract of roots of Stauranthus perforatus showed a significant phytotoxic effect on Amaranthus hypochondriacus and Echinochloa crus-galli. Bioassay-directed fractionation of the active organic extract led to the isolation and characterization of ten secondary metabolites, which included two pyranocoumarins [xanthyletin (1) and 3-(1',1'-dimethylallyl)-xanthyletin (2)], four furanocoumarins [chalepensin (3), ammirin (4), chalepin (5) and 2'-isopropyl-psoralene (6)], two lignans [asarinin (7) and fargesin (8)], one sesquiterpene [4,5-epoxi-beta-caryophyllene (9)], and one alkamide [pellitorine (10)]. From these compounds, 2'-isopropyl-psoralene (6) or anhydromarmesin, is reported for the first time as a natural product, whereas compounds 4-10 are now reported as being present in S. perforatus. Metabolites 1, 3-5 and 10 caused significant inhibition of radicle growth of A. hypochondriacus and E. crus-galli. Furthermore, in a greenhouse experiment the decomposition of the leaves and roots in the soil had a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of weeds. The allelopathic action of the decomposition of roots was evident up to the sixth week of the experiment. The effect of leaves was comparable to that of DPCA (dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate), a commercial herbicide. Finally different concentrations of Stauranthus root powder were combined with maize kernels and used to feed corn weevil. The treatments resulted in high mortality of this insect. 相似文献

Ponthieva rinconii, a new orchid species from the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental in Veracruz, Mexico, is described and illustrated. It is similar in overall appearance to the wide-ranging upland speciesP. schaffneri, but differs from it in habitat preferences (tropical semi-evergreen forest at 650 m elevation), presence of a loose raceme, and three-lobed labellum with a basal cavity. 相似文献
