外源乙烯利施用时期对花生源库形成的调控效应   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
为了解决源库关系不协调而限制花生产量提高的问题,在大田栽培条件下,以‘山花9号’花生为试验材料,设置花后10、20、30 d 3个喷施时期,以不喷施处理为对照,探讨不同时期喷施乙烯利对花生源库形成的调控效应。结果表明: 花后10和20 d喷施乙烯利可显著减少花生的开花数量、果针数、幼果数,提高秕果数和饱果数,而花后30 d喷施处理对开花数量、果针数和幼果数无抑制作用。喷施乙烯利可以增加花生单株叶面积,开花后10 d喷施处理的单株叶面积增幅最大,随着喷施时期的推迟增幅减小。花后10和20 d喷施乙烯利显著提高了花生叶片的光合速率,但花后30 d喷施处理只能在短期内提高光合速率,对生育后期的叶片光合速率无显著影响。从源库综合性状来看,花后20 d喷施乙烯利的源库关系最协调,有利于促进同化物向荚果的运输,提高有效果比例和荚果充实度,从而提高产量。因此,喷施乙烯利是解决花生“花多不实、果多不饱”源库失衡现象的有效措施,生产中使用乙烯利控花应选择在开花后20 d喷施。  相似文献

选用高蛋白品种KB008(KB008)、高脂肪品种花17(H17)和高油酸/亚油酸(O/L)品种农大818(818),在大田栽培条件下,研究了盛花后期叶面喷施多效唑(PBZ)对不同品质类型花生产量、品质及相关碳、氮代谢酶活性的影响.结果表明:喷施PBZ显著增加了3种品质类型花生荚果产量,原因是增加了单株结果数,降低了千克果数而提高了双仁果率.喷施PBZ不同程度地提高了3种类型花生籽仁脂肪和可溶性糖含量,降低了蛋白质含量,显著增加了高脂肪品种H17的O/L值.PBZ使高O/L值品种818的脂肪含量增加显著,同时其蛋白质含量显著降低,而对其他两品种的蛋白质和脂肪含量影响较小.喷施PBZ均降低了3种类型花生结荚期叶片硝酸还原酶(NR)活性及结荚期和饱果期叶片谷氨酰胺合成酶和谷氨酸脱氢酶活性,818的3种酶活性降低幅度最大,KB008和H17的酶活性降幅较小;喷施PBZ均降低了3种类型花生结荚期和饱果期叶片谷草转氨酶和谷丙转氨酶活性.说明氮代谢酶活性的降低是喷施PBZ降低3种类型花生籽仁蛋白质含量的主要原因.喷施PBZ均提高了3品种结荚期和饱果期叶片蔗糖合成酶和磷酸蔗糖合成酶活性,其中显著提高了818的2种酶活性,而对KB008和H17的活性提高不显著;喷施PBZ提高了3品种结荚期和饱果期的磷酸烯醇式丙酮酸羧化酶和1,5-二磷酸核酮糖羧化酶活性,其中对818在结荚期的活性提高最显著,对H17活性提高较小.碳代谢酶活性的增强是喷施PBZ提高花生籽仁脂肪含量的生理基础.  相似文献

Effect of paclobutrazol (PBZ) treatment on salinity tolerance of wheat (Triticum aestivum) was investigated on a salt-tolerant (Karchia-65) and salt-sensitive (Ghods) cultivars. Salinity significantly reduced the investigated growth parameters such as plant height, length and area of sixth leaf, root length, fresh and dry weight of shoot, roots and sixth leaf, water content (WC) of plant and seeds weight in the both cultivars. The negative effect of salinity in Ghods cultivar was more than Karchia cultivar. However, PBZ treatment reduced the growth in both cultivars, the differences in plant growth among various levels of NaCl decreased in PBZ-treated plants. Salt stress resulted in high accumulation of Na+ in the sixth leaf and roots in both cultivars, particularly in Ghods cultivar. Against Karchia cultivar, salt stress decreased the storage of K+, P and N in sixth leaf and roots in Ghods cultivar. In the both cultivars, PBZ treatment enhanced the K+, P and N contents in sixth leaf and roots by increasing salinity. Although PBZ treatment decreased the growth of plants, it improved the weight of seeds against stress damage. PBZ treatment reduced the accumulation of harmful Na+ ion in plant tissues while increased the K+, P and N contents. These observations suggest that PBZ treatment may increase tolerance by diminishing ionic imbalance caused by salt stress.  相似文献

以兔眼蓝浆果(Vaccinium ashei Reade)品种'Brightwell'和南方高丛蓝浆果(V.corymbosum hybrids)品种'Misty'为研究对象,研究不同灌水量〔50%WC、75%WC、100%WC(CK)和125%WC〕(WC为单株日耗水量)对幼苗生长、单株耗水量的日变化和月变化、单株净增干质量、总耗水量和水分利用效率的影响,并采用回归分析法对单株月耗水量与月均温和月均空气相对湿度的相关性进行分析.结果显示:随灌水量提高,2个品种幼苗的地径、单株枝长和单株总叶面积的增量总体上均不断增大,但单株枝长增量略有波动;单株根、茎、叶和总干质量总体上均逐渐增大,根冠比则逐渐减小;单株净增干质量和总耗水量均随灌水量提高而增大,而水分利用效率则在50%WC条件下最低、在75%WC条件下最高.在相同灌水量条件下,品种'Misty'幼苗的地径和单株枝长的增量,单株茎、叶和总干质量及水分利用效率基本上均高于品种'Brightwell',而其单株总叶面积增量、单株根干质量、根冠比和总耗水量却基本上低于后者.在7月份至9月份,2个品种幼苗单株耗水量的日变化基本上呈单峰曲线,但其单株耗水量峰值出现的时间段则因品种和灌水量不同而异;在全天不同时间段和不同月份,2个品种幼苗的单株耗水量均随灌水量提高而增大;在相同灌水量条件下,品种'Misty'幼苗的单株耗水量总体上低于品种'Brightwell'.回归分析结果表明:2个品种幼苗的单株月耗水量与月均温呈显著或极显著正相关,与月均空气相对湿度呈显著或极显著负相关.综合分析结果表明:蓝浆果幼苗的耗水量不但与品种特性有关,而且还受到土壤水分含量、气温和空气湿度的影响;在相同灌水量条件下,品种'Brightwell'幼苗的耗水量高于品种'Misty',但其水分利用效率却低于后者.在中国南方地区,品种'Brightwell'和'Misty'的适宜灌水量分别为100%WC和75%WC.  相似文献

The relationship between age-related resistance of peper plants to Phytophthora capsici and contents of carbohydrates, amino acids, phenolics and mineral nutrients in pepper stems was studied using two pepper cultivars, Hanbyul (susceptible) and Kingkun (resistant). With increasing age of pepper plants, the two cultivars, which differ in their susceptibility to Phytophthora blight, became gradually resistant to the disease. The cultivar Kingkun distinctly showed the age-related resistance to Phytophthora blight at the second branch stage. The weight of dry matter in healthy stems of pepper plants at the second branch stage was twice that at the six leaf stage. The resistant cultivar Kingkun contained lower levels of fructose, glucose and sucrose in stems than the susceptible cultivar Hanbyul at the different developmental stages. No consistent differences between the developmental stages of the plants were recognized with regard to their glucose content. However, the contents of fructose and sucrose in the cultivar Hanbyul greatly increased at the second branch stage. The levels of inositol reduced in both pepper cultivars during plant development. In view of the fact that there were only slight changes in the amount of total amino acids, it seems unlikely that there is a relationship between the amino acid metabolism and the retardation of Phytophthora infection during plant development. The amounts of total phenolic compounds in pepper stems were relatively low at the later growth stages of the plants and also in the resistant cultivar Kingkun. The contents of macroelemental nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium were drastically reduced in pepper stems at the later plant growth stage. No significant differences between the cultivars or the plant growth stages were found in the silicon and microelemental nutrients such as sodium, iron, zinc and manganese. These results suggest that the expression of age-related resistance of pepper plants may be due to the morphological and nutritional changes in tissues of pepper stems during ageing, i.e. the pronounced increase in weight of dry matter, the significant decrease in amounts of mineral nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and the tow contents of fructose, glucose and sucrose in the stem tissues.  相似文献

The study aims to investigate the effect of foliar spray with three plant growth regulators (PGRs) p-Chlorophenoxyacetic acid (CPA) at 20 and 40 ppm; Gibberellic acid (GA3) at 20 and 30 ppm, 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) at 10 and 20 ppm on the response of fruit set, yield, and fruit quality of some hot pepper cultivars (Chillina, Parbirian, Shampion, and Hyffa) grown in sandy soil under plastic tunnels as compared to the control. Spraying Chillina cultivar GA3 at 30 ppm significantly increased the number of fruits/ plant and fruit set (%), yield/plant, and total yield/fad. In addition, the contents of TSS and Vit C, furthermore, maximum capsaicin content were observed in chili fruits in both seasons. However, the interaction between Chillina cultivar and spraying with GA3 at 20 ppm ranked second in yield and quality. The interaction between Parbirian cultivars and spraying with GA3 at 20 or 30 ppm increased the number of flowers/plants in both seasons. On the other hand, the interaction between Shampion cultivar and spraying with tap water (control) gave the lowest values of the number of flowers/ plants, the number of fruits/ plant and fruit set (%), yield, and its components, and fruit quality in both seasons.  相似文献

Damaging effects of either black bean aphid (Aphis fabae), broad bean rust (Uromyces viciae-fabae), or the combination of both were investigated on a susceptible (cv. Diana) and an aphid resistant (cv. Bolero) cultivar of Vicia faba. When compared with rust, aphids caused greater reductions of root dry weight, shoot dry weight, leaf area, and mean relative growth rate. The mean unit leaf rate was also reduced whereas the leaf area ratio was not affected. The damage caused per aphid was highest on the susceptible cultivar. Rust induced damage did not differ between the cultivars. Concomitant infestation with both pests only resulted in additive damage. The population development of aphids was delayed on partially resistant plants. High temperature and rust infection reduced the total number of aphids the plants were able to support but not the level of resistance. Thus the specific damaging effect per aphid was increased.  相似文献

为确定兔眼蓝浆果( Vaccinium ashei Reade)不同品种苗期的适宜施氮量,以兔眼蓝浆果早熟品种‘阿拉帕哈’(‘Alapha’)、中熟品种‘园蓝’(‘Gardenblue’)和晚熟品种‘芭尔德温’(‘Baldwin’)的组培苗为实验材料,采用水培法研究了不同氮浓度(0、1、2和4 mmol·L-1)对幼苗生长、根和叶中全氮含量、叶片光合生理特性的影响。结果表明:与对照(0 mmol·L-1氮)相比,经1、2和4 mmol·L-1氮处理后3个兔眼蓝浆果品种的单株茎叶干质量显著增加,根冠比显著降低;但品种‘园蓝’的单株根干质量显著高于对照,另2个品种的单株根干质量与对照无显著差异。随着营养液中氮浓度的提高,3个兔眼蓝浆果品种根的全氮含量及品种‘阿拉帕哈’叶的全氮含量均逐渐增加,且在4 mmol·L-1氮处理下最高;品种‘园蓝’和‘芭尔德温’叶的全氮含量呈先升高后降低的趋势,且均在2 mmol·L-1氮处理下最高;各处理组根和叶的全氮含量均显著高于对照。经1、2和4 mmol·L-1氮处理后,3个兔眼蓝浆果品种叶片的叶绿素a、叶绿素b和总叶绿素含量以及PSⅡ最大光化学效率( Fv/Fm )均呈先升高后降低的趋势,且均显著高于对照。各处理组中,品种‘园蓝’叶片的净光合速率( Pn)、气孔导度( Gs)、胞间CO2浓度( Ci)和蒸腾速率( Tr)均显著高于对照;品种‘芭尔德温’叶片的Pn值在4 mmol·L-1氮处理下显著低于对照,Gs和Tr值在2 mmol·L-1氮处理下显著高于对照,Ci值与对照无显著差异;与对照相比,品种‘阿拉帕哈’叶片的Pn值在1和4 mmol·L-1氮处理下显著提高,Gs值在1 mmol·L-1氮处理下显著提高,Tr值在1和2 mmol·L-1氮处理下显著提高,而Ci值则在4 mmol·L-1氮处理下显著降低。综合分析结果显示:适度增施氮肥可提高兔眼蓝浆果不同品种幼苗的茎叶生长、改善其光合性能,但对根系生长无明显的促进作用。在营养生长期兔眼蓝浆果不同品种的需氮量存在差异,其中品种‘园蓝’更适宜高氮环境,而施用少量氮肥即可促进品种‘芭尔德温’和‘阿拉帕哈’幼苗地上部分生长。  相似文献

Effects of inoculating four Arachis hypogaea ssp. fastigiata cultivars with 17 Bradyrhizobium spp. strains were studied in a glasshouse experiment using a sandy soil devoid of an indigenous Bradyrhizobium population. Firstly, a wide range of parameters, indicative of symbiotic performance, were assessed for their influence on seed yield, by correlation and statistical analyses. It was found that nodule dry weight and leaf area were relevant parameters concerning seed yield. Secondly, the effects of host and strain genotype on those parameters were described.Variations in nodule dry weight did not have an effect on seed yield, except for cultivar Natal Common at lower nodule dry weight values. Therefore, it was concluded that the quantity of nitrogen fixing tissue met the demand for combined nitrogen and did not limit seed yield. This conclusion was further supported by the observation that at low nodule numbers per plant the nodule size increased to generate sufficient nitrogen fixing tissue.Leaf area, which comprises components for both photosynthetic capacity and plant development, was found to correlate well with seed yield. An increase in leaf area resulted in significant seed yield increases for all three spanish-type cultivars, but not for the valencia-type cultivar. Leaf area, thus, appeared as a factor limiting seed yield of spanish-type groundnuts.Cultivar performance concerning seed yield was significantly better for Natal Common compared to the other three cultivars, while Natal Common had a significantly lower plant (biomass excluding seed) dry weight value.Inoculation with different strains of Bradyrhizobium resulted in significantly different nodule dry weight values, but hardly led to significant differences in seed yield. This agreed with the finding that the amount of nitrogen fixing tissue appeared not to limit the availability of combined nitrogen.A large quantity of nitrogen was partitioned to the groundnut seeds: 62% to 76% of total accumulated nitrogen was located in the seeds.This study showed that testing for symbiotic effectiveness in the groundnut Bradyrhizobium symbiosis should include assessment of final (seed and biomass) yield, because parameters measured at stages prior to maturity, like nodulation parameters, may lead to flawed effectiveness ratings.  相似文献

在温室条件下,以每日2.2kJ/m^2(CK)、8.82kJ/m^2(T1)和12.6kJ/m^2(T2)紫外线-B辐射(UV-B,280~320nm)剂量研究了5个黄瓜(Cucumis satious L.)品种,7个番茄(Lycopsicon esculentum Mill)品种及大豆[Glycine max(L.)Metr.]、菜豆(Phaseolus vulgaris L.)和黄河密瓜(Cucumis melo L.)的生长反应。辐射处理25d后,测定了株高(PH)、叶重(LDW)及总生物量(TDW)、叶面积(LA)、特定叶重(SLW)、上胚轴长度(EL)和番茄品种的子叶节周长(GCN)。结果表明,种间和种内差异显著。但是大多数品种及种的反应指数为负值,并呈现强度负相关效应,说明UV—B辐射抑制了它们的生长发育,但大豆的反应指数在低剂量的处理下为正值反而促进其生长。UV—B胁迫下,大多数种类的上胚轴延伸明显受阻,特定叶重增加,叶面积和生物量减少,番茄的子叶节膨大。作物对UVB辐射的种内和种间反应是作物遗传特性上的差异和对环境的适应能力不同所致。  相似文献

不同玉米品种间作,品种间的竞争对群体结构和产量可能有促进作用.为了明确不同密度下品种间作对不同生育期群体生长特征的影响,以及在不同生育期的变化规律,选用郑单958和沈单16两个不同株型的玉米品种在中、高两种密度条件下进行隔行间作田间试验.研究结果表明:不同密度间作群体叶面积指数(Leaf Area Index,LAI)显著增加,同密度不同品种间作LAI在生育后期显著增加,有利于形成合理的冠层结构以获得更多的光照;中等密度下品种间作单株叶面积较单作显著增加,而高密度间作显著降低了单株叶面积;中等密度下,品种间作地上部干物质积累量显著增加,郑单958尤为突出,但高密度间作时的增加幅度较小,这与高密度下株高、茎粗相对减小有关.品种株高、茎粗随间作密度的增加而有所增加,对间作竞争的响应与品种特性密切相关;在不同生育期,郑单958和沈单16号表现不同的生长规律,前者在整个营养生长过程中对间作竞争的响应明显、持续和稳定,而进入生殖期后,间作的生长优势逐渐消失;后者在营养生长期干物质积累量大,但持续时间较短,表现出较弱的竞争性.品种间作可有效改善群体冠层结构,增加群体物质生产力,更好的为增产鉴定基础.  相似文献

The maximum vegetative growth potential of two peach [Prunuspersica (L.) Batsch] cultivars that differ in the timing ofresource demand for reproductive growth was determined in termsof stem extension, stem and leaf dry weight accumulation, andtrunk radial increment on defruited trees. The maximum vegetativegrowth potentials were similar on the two cultivars indicatingthat the greater partitioning of dry weight to vegetative growthfrequently observed on early maturing cultivars compared tolate maturing cultivars is the result of a shorter period ofcompetition between reproductive and vegetative growth, ratherthan a genetic difference in vegetative growth potential. Onboth cultivars, stem extension and leaf dry weight accumulationceased in mid-summer, however stem dry weight accumulation andtrunk radial increment increase continued through the autumn. The presence of fruit did not have a detectable effect on thefinal stem length, stem dry weight or leaf dry weight on theearly maturing cultivar, but it reduced final stem length anddry weight by 43 and 56%, respectively on the late maturingcultivar. The presence of fruit did decrease stem length, stemdry weight and leaf dry weight on the early maturing cultivarfor 1 month prior to and 1 month after fruit harvest. Fruitdecreased final trunk radial increment by 42 and 77% on theearly and late maturing cultivars, respectively. These reductionsin vegetative growth indicate that resource partitioning tovegetative growth was reduced by competition with fruit growth. Comparison of stem relative extension rates and stem and leafrelative growth rates on fruited and defruited trees indicatedthat vegetative growth was resource-limited shortly after vegetativebud break on fruited trees of both cultivars. 大田栽培条件下,在大豆始花期叶面喷施以植物多糖(P1)、植物多糖和5-氨基乙酰丙酸(P2)以及植物多糖、5-氨基乙酰丙酸和缩节胺(P3)为有效成分复配的3种制剂,研究不同植物多糖类复合制剂对大豆叶绿素含量、光合蒸腾特性、干物质积累与分配以及籽粒产量的影响.结果表明:喷施3种制剂35 d内,大豆叶片叶绿素含量与对照相比明显增加,且随生育进程下降的趋势有所延缓;喷施P1和P3使大豆叶片光合速率和水分利用效率分别提高13.2%和10.3%以上.与对照相比,喷施3种制剂促进了大豆地上部于物质积累量的增加、提高了叶片干物质向荚的分配比例,花后干物质同化量对籽粒的贡献率增加17.1%以上;喷施P1和P3后,大豆单株荚数、单株粒数和百粒重显著增加,喷施P2后变化不显著;喷施3种制剂使大豆增产5.9%以上.3种植物多糖类复合制剂可促进大豆叶绿素合成、延缓叶片衰老、改善叶片光合潜能和水分状况,有效调控大豆干物质积累和花后同化物分配,进而实现增产.  相似文献

Seedlings of three wheat varieties (Triticum aestivum L.)—highly productive cv. Ballada, moderately productive cv. Belchanka, and low productive cv. Beltskaya—were exposed to progressive soil drought (cessation of watering for 3, 5, and 7 days) and then analyzed for chlorophyll content and activities of ferredoxin-NADP+ oxidoreductase (FNR) and antioxidant enzymes, namely, glutathione reductase (GR) and ascorbate peroxidase (AscP). In addition, the proline content, and the extent of lipid peroxidation were examined. In the first period of water limitation, the water loss from leaves was slight for all wheat cultivars, which is characteristic of drought-resistant varieties. After 7-day drought the leaf water content decreased by 5.2–6.8%. The total chlorophyll content expressed per unit dry weight increased insignificantly during the first two periods of drought but decreased by 13–15% later on. This decrease was not accompanied by changes in chlorophyll a/b ratio. The plant dehydration did not induce significant changes in FNR activity. Activities of GR and AscP in leaves of wheat cultivars Ballada and Belchanka increased on the 3rd and 5th days of drought. Owing to the coordinated increase in GR and AscP activities, the lipid peroxidation rate remained at nearly the control level observed in water-sufficient plants. When the dehydration period was prolonged to 7 days, activities of GR and AscP in wheat cultivars reduced in parallel with the increase in malonic dialdehyde (MDA) content, indicating that the antioxidant enzyme defense system was weakened and lipid peroxidation enhanced. Unlike Ballada and Belchanka, the wheat cv. Beltskaya did not exhibit the increase in GR and AscP activities during progressive soil drought. The increase in MDA content by 16% in this cultivar was only observed after a 7-day drought period. The proline content in leaves of all wheat cultivars increased substantially during drought treatment. Thus, in wheat cultivars examined, different responses of the defense systems were mobilized to implement plant protection against water stress. The activities of antioxidant enzyme defense system depended on wheat cultivar, duration of drought, and the stage of leaf development.  相似文献

Response of 19 cultivars of soybeans to ultraviolet-B irradiance   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Nineteen soybean cultivars were grown for four weeks in controlled environmental chambers with artificial daylight supplemented by five UV-B irradiance regimes to determine the range of growth and development responses of seedlings. Data from nine plant characteristics were assessed: leaf area, dry weight of leaves, stems and roots, total plant dry weight, height, ratio of roots to shoots and leaf area to weight and rating of leaves for damage. Significant differences were observed in the responses noted. Stunting, leaf chlorosis and loss of apical dominance were three general symptoms apparent on all cultivars which received UV-B irradiance. Varying degrees of reduced leaf area and dry weight of the plants and altered ratios of weights of leaves per unit area and weight of roots to shoots were also found. It was concluded that different soybean cultivars demonstrate a marked difference in sensitivity to UV-B radiation under the artificial conditions of controlled environmental growth chambers and this may indicate a genetic basis for variability in sensitivity of soybean cultivars to this waveband. The effect of P supply on absorption and utilization efficiency of P in relation to dry matter production and dinitrogen fixation was examined in 8 pigeon pea cultivars with different growth duration and a soybean cultivar under field conditions. In all the pigeon pea cultivars, the maximum whole plant dry weight was obtained in a P-deficient soil at 100 kg P ha−1 application. The short duration cultivars had smaller whole plant dry weights at low P rates (5 and 25 kg P ha−1) and poor response to P application compared with the medium and long duration cultivars. Increasing the P application rate significantly increased dinitrogen fixation in all the cultivars. At the low P rates, the total nodule activity (TNA) was lower in the short than in the medium and the long duration cultivars. However, at 200 kg P ha−1 application, dinitrogen fixation did not vary among these cultivars except for one short duration cultivar whichregistered very low values. Dry matter production and dinitrogen fixation are strongly controlled by P absorption ability rather than P utilization efficiency. The low absorption ability of the short duration cultivars is mainly due to poor root development. The high P concentrations in the nodules of all the cultivars suggest that nodules have advantage over host plant interms of P distribution under P deficient conditions. Our results suggest that P plays an important role in dinitrogen fixation through an effective translocation of P to the leaf. Thus when P supply is limited, efficient cultivars obtained reasonably high yield through an effective translocation of the absorbed P to the leaf.  相似文献

Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.) cultivars vary widely in their growth habit and seed size. Preliminary experiments indicated that a large-seeded pole cultivar (King of the Garden) formed many more nodules than a small-seeded bush cultivar (Henderson). The relative importance of seed size and shoot mass in determining nodule number and mass was assessed in five lima bean cultivars differing in seed size and growth habit. Between cultivars, significant positive correlations between initial seed mass, plant weight and nodule number and mass were observed during the first four weeks after planting. Comparisons within cultivars indicated a strong correlation between nodule mass and shoot dry weight. The influence of plant morphology on nodule formation and mass was secondary to the effects of seed and shoot mass. As plants matured, the increase in nodule mass paralleled the increase in plant mass, while nodule number was relatively stable after day 18. These results suggest that the highly regulated process of nodule formation was under the influence of seed derived factors, while the continued accumulation of nodule tissue was related to shoot growth.  相似文献

Summary Plants of Diplacus aurantiacus, a successional shrub common in California chaparral, were grown under controlled conditions in which either quantum flux density or nitrogen availability was varied. Photosynthesis and leaf nitrogen content were determined on a leaf area and a leaf weight basis, and whole plant growth was monitored.There was a direct relationship between photosynthesis and leaf nitrogen content on both area and weight bases. Reduced light intensity of the growth environment resulted in reductions in light-saturated photosynthesis and nitrogen content on an area basis, but not on a weight basis. With reduced nitrogen availability, photosynthesis and leaf nitrogen content per unit leaf weight decreased.Resource use efficiency increased as the resource became more limiting. The results are consistent with a model of plant growth in which net carbon gain of the leaf is maximized. Abbreviations. Effects of foliar applications of CCC and CEPA on dry matterdistribution in two cowpea cultivars which exhibit differentdegrees of premature abscission of fruits were investigated.At the concentration of 0-1 mg1–1, CCC increased stemweight in the cultivar Adzuki, but had no effect on the cv.Mala (which exhibits a relatively high degree of premature abscission).While CCC did not significantly influence root weight in Adzuki,the concentrations of 1 and 10 mg 1–1 increased root weightin Mala. In both cultivars, the 1000 mg1–1 treatment decreasedseed weight, with a greater decrease in Adzuki. All concentrations of CEPA, up to 1000 mg 1–1, decreasedstem and root weights in Mala, and leaf weight in Adzuki. The10 mg1–1 concentration increased seed weight in Mala by100 percent, and leaf weight by 28 percent, without any significanteffect on pod weight, or on the weight of the whole plant. Therewas also no increase in pod number. Overall, Mala was more responsive than Adzuki to the growthregulators, particularly CEPA. In the low concentration responses,CEPA increased seed weight not by increasing gross plant weight,but mainly by causing a change in distribution of dry matter.  相似文献
