Tribe Fabeae consists of five genera, Lathyrus (160 spp.), Lens (4–6 spp.), Pisum (2–3 spp.), Vavilovia (monotypic), and Vicia (160 spp.), and shows a diversity in stylar features. At least six different stylar types are known in the tribe. In order to reclassify the tribe at the rank of genus, we tried to discover apomorphies in stylar features using a molecular phylogenetic study. We surveyed internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA of representative species, selected from each group having different types of styles in the tribe. We paid particular attention in sampling to members of Vicia section Vicilla, as stylar features are heterogeneous within this section. Consequently, our sample set included 15 species of section Vicilla, 23 species of other Fabeae, and two species of Trifolieae, which were used as a sister group of Fabeae. Based on our analysis, we found that a laterally compressed style and an abaxially tufted hairy style would be advanced against a dorsiventrally compressed style and an evenly hairy style, respectively, in genus Vicia. The species group, which shares the latter apomorphy, is composed of 56 species and was dispersed into 11 sections of two subgenera in the recent system of genus Vicia. We consider future revision of Fabeae should treat this species group as a single higher taxon.  相似文献

植物体为适应自己的传粉系统, 表现出高度的适应特征。风媒花植物为适应风传播花粉, 要形成特殊的结构, 以扩大接受花粉粒的面积。利用扫描电镜观察了桦木科(Betulaceae)6属18种植物花柱的形态及花粉粒在花柱上的萌发过程, 探讨了桦木科植物花柱适应风媒传粉的特征。结果表明, 桦木科植物的二心皮(铁木、云南鹅耳枥稀为三心皮)雌蕊具柱状花柱, 柱头不发达, 花柱表皮细胞长条状, 纵向排列紧密。传粉时, 花柱表皮细胞能执行柱头的功能, 接受花粉粒, 为花粉粒萌发提供场所和萌发条件。桦木科植物花柱有2种类型: 一种是花柱表皮细胞能形成乳突, 花粉管经乳突细胞进入花柱; 另一种是花柱表皮细胞不形成乳突, 花粉管经过花柱表皮细胞或胞间隙进入花柱。无论花柱表皮细胞是否形成乳突, 乳突的形态、大小以及花粉管和乳突的结合方式等在族间、属间、属内种间存在差异。与基部被子植物相比, 桦木科植物的花柱呈现适应风媒传粉的进化特征。桦木科植物花柱表皮细胞形成的乳突与基部被子植物柱头乳突功能相同, 是桦木科植物风媒传粉的适应策略。  相似文献

The ontogeny of the gynoecium ofRochelia disperma has been investigated by LM and SEM. From the floral apex only one carpel primordium arises abaxially and eventually shifts into a subterminal position. Neither an initial stadium of a second carpel nor an adaxial vascular strand in gynobase and style could be observed. InR. stylaris two vascular strands run through the style and two undifferentiated lobes in adaxial position may be regarded as rudimentary mericarps. Only from comparison with related taxa the conclusion can be drawn thatRochelia is really pseudomonomerous, more so inR. disperma than inR. stylaris. The primary gynoecial bulge splits up into three parts inR. disperma: style/stigma, nutlets with gynobase, and disc. While the mericarps originate in mostBoraginoideae from the symplicate region and the ascidiate one is restricted to the very basal parts, inR. disperma the ascidiate part extends and forms the nutlets. The hood-shaped mouth of the carpel (the plicate zone) is closed to a triangular slit in lateral position, the stigma.The nutlets are triangular with broad base and do not surround the adaxial part of the gynobase inR. disperma, R. persica, R. bungei, R. stylaris, andR. macrocalyx. In contrast,R. peduncularis, R. cardiosepala, andR. cancellata have nutlets clasping the gynobase; they may be more closely related than was assumed up to now. The glochids ofRochelia are fascicled unicellular hairs (with different shapes) and not emergences as in theCynoglosseae. There is an evolutionary trend towards fruit formation with only one mericarp, especially inR. disperma.

Darwin proposed that pollen size should be positively correlated with stigma depth rather than style length among species given that pollen tubes first enter the stigma autotrophically, then grow through the style heterotrophically. However, studies often show a positive relationship between pollen size and style length.Five floral traits were observed to be correlated among42 bumblebee-pollinated Pedicularis species(Orobanchaceae) in which stigmas are distinct from styles. The phylogenetic independent contrast analysis revealed that pollen grain volume was more strongly correlated with stigma depth than with style length, consistent with Darwin's functional hypothesis between pollen size and stigma depth.  相似文献

Stigma morphology was examined with the SEM in 14 of the 16 species ofVillarsia. In nine of the ten distylous species studied, stigmas of the floral morphs were strongly dimorphic in length, shape, configuration of the receptive surface, and in the size and density of their papillae. Thrum stigmas ofVillarsia, in contrast to those of most other distylous species, are not simply smaller versions of the conspecific pin stigmas, but generally exhibit an array of morph-specific characters. Thrum stigma lobes may be broader than those of pins, they may have undulate margins, lobes subdivided into secondary lobes, papillae more extensively distributed than in pins, and various combinations of these traits occur. The traits that distinguish thrum from pin stigmas achieve an increase in the receptive area and may enhance more efficient pollen capture by the shorter and less accessible thrum stigmas. The morphogenesis of the stigma shape dimorphism appears to involve processes more complex than inhibition of elongation in thrum styles. InVillarsia, the stigma dimorphisms are species-specific. No correlations were found between morphologies of the stigma and the different breeding systems in distylous species. Stigmas of the four non-heterostylous species examined resemble the thrum stigma type found in most distylousVillarsia species.  相似文献

榕树(Ficus spp.)及其传粉榕小蜂(Agaonidae)之间经过长期的协同进化, 已形成了高度专一的互惠共生关系。在雌雄同株的榕树中, 同一个榕果内既繁殖种子, 又繁殖榕小蜂, 雌花资源在繁殖种子和榕小蜂之间是怎样分配的?该研究选择广泛分布于西双版纳地区的高榕(F. altissima)及其传粉榕小蜂系统来回答这个问题。高榕果内的雌花柱头形态变异较大, 有3种类型的柱头——球型、弯钩型和火炬型, 它们分别占到雌花总量的54.00%、36.93%和9.07%。3种类型柱头的雌花分别具有不同长度的花柱, 球型柱头雌花的平均花柱长度最短, 火炬型柱头次之, 弯钩型柱头雌花的平均花柱长度最长。在高榕果内, 有传粉者Eupristina altissima和欺骗者Eupristina sp.两类小蜂进入榕果内繁殖, 前者的产卵器长度比96.01%以上的雌花花柱长, 后者的产卵器也要长于85.73%的雌花花柱, 从产卵器长度和雌花花柱长度的匹配情况看, 它们应该可以利用绝大多数雌花产卵繁殖后代。然而, 繁殖榕小蜂的雌花主要是短花柱的雌花, 其中60.64%是球型柱头的雌花; 而繁殖种子的主要是花柱较长的弯钩型柱头和火炬型柱头的雌花。显然, 繁殖榕小蜂和种子的雌花不仅花柱长度有差异, 柱头也分化出了不同的形态, 变异的柱头形状也是调节榕树-榕小蜂繁殖平衡的手段之一。  相似文献

为了深入了解植物捕获花粉的机制和生殖策略,我们对3种耧斗菜属Aquilegia L.植物华北耧斗菜A. yabeana Kitagawa、无距耧斗菜A. ecalcarata Maxim.和秦岭耧斗菜A. incurvata P. K. Hsiao的雌蕊进行了扫描电镜和荧光显微镜观察,发现其柱头发育的特殊式样。其柱头位于花柱的腹缝面,由花柱腹缝两侧细胞发育成柱头乳突,在花期中从顶端朝花柱基部渐次成熟。伴随花柱向外弯曲,成熟的柱头表面相继呈现,逐渐增加了花粉落置的空间。这种柱头发育的式样通过延长柱头的可授期,增加了植物在不可预测的传粉环境下的繁殖机会。  相似文献

山姜属(Alpinia L.)植物的花柱具卷曲运动的能力, 该属植物的野生种群有两种表型的个体, 其花柱运动方向相反。该文通过观察马来良姜(Alpinia mutica Roxb.)花柱的显微和超微结构来研究花柱卷曲运动的结构基础。结果表明两种表型的花柱解剖结构相同。花柱仅形态学上端区域(约占花柱总长度的25%)有卷曲运动能力, 其它区域不能运动。运动区近轴侧分布着几层直径较大、形状不规则、相对较短且细胞壁较薄的细胞, 远轴侧的细胞直径较小、狭长; 非运动区近轴和远轴侧的细胞都呈狭长形。花柱运动区域近轴侧和远轴侧细胞结构和细胞层数的不对称可能是导致花柱卷曲运动的结构原因。  相似文献

Floral ontogeny ofCleome spinosa, Cleome violacea andPolanisia dodecandra subsp.trachysperma was studied in the context of the question whether the fascicled androecium ofReseda andCapparis (with fused fascicles) or the 2 + 4-pattern of theBrassicaceae is primitive in theCapparales. InPolanisia dodecandra, the 9–18 stamens show unidirectional initiation from the adaxial side toward the abaxial side of the flower. InCleome violacea, the six stamens also are formed in an unidirectional order, but development starts abaxially and a zigzag-like pattern is superimposed. InCleome spinosa, two stamen primordia in transversal (lateral) position are followed by four stamens which arise on a somewhat higher level in two pairs in front of the median sepals. It is assumed that the evolutionary steps in the androecial development proceed fromReseda viaCapparis andPolanisia/Cleome toBrassicaceae. The potential inhibitory effects of incompatible pollen on outcrossed seed set were investigated in mass-flowering, self-incompatible, tristylous Pontederia sagittata. Prior application of self pollen, followed after 2, 4, or 6 h by compatible pollen, was conducted on five genotypes of each of the three style morphs under uniform glasshouse conditions. The greatest reductions in seed set occurred in pollinations of the long-styled (L) morph at the 6 h time interval. Smaller reductions were also found for this treatment in the mid-styled (M) morph. No significant reductions in seed set were observed in the short-styled (S) morph or in the other morphs at shorter time intervals. Observations of pollen germination and pollen tube growth indicated that the lack of inhibitory effects in the S morph may occur because relatively few pollen grains adhered to stigmas in selfpollinations. In the L and M morphs, early germination of self pollen may cause physical clogging of the stigma and style, resulting in a reduced number of compatible pollen tubes in styles. Observations of the structural integrity of styles indicated that prior germination of self pollen resulted in more rapid onset of pistil senescence, particularly in the L morph. These influences may contribute to the morph-specific differences in seed set observed following prior self-pollination of outcrossed flowers. The negative effects of incompatible pollen are likely to be most evident where ecological factors cause delays in the delivery of outcross pollen to stigmas.  相似文献

Stigmatic exudate-eating chironomid flies (Smittia) and pollen-eating halodid beetles are the most common visitors to flowers ofPseudowintera colorata. Plants are self-incompatible. After selfing pollen tubes penetrate the nucellus; chase pollination experiments show that the incompatibility reaction occurs before fertilization. When pollen is applied to stigmas, the exudate dries rapidly and does not usually reappear. A review of anthophytes suggests that their common ancestor around 200 mya was bisexual and pollinated at least in part by nectar-seeking insects, possibly including flies. The pollen brush commonly is referred to as a “bearded” or “pubescent” style in taxonomic literature and traditionally is taken to be an aggregation of trichomes on the distal end of the style, and occasionally including the stigma. We present data that support the taxonomic utility of the pollen brush but define it more specifically as a dense aggregation of erect trichomes emanating from the style (not stigma or ovary) and functioning in secondary pollen presentation. We recommend avoiding such vague terminology as bearded or pubescent styles as these refer not only to the pollen brush but also to ciliate and penicillate stigmas and ciliate styles. The latter three conditions have some taxonomic use, and since their occurrence is not necessarily correlated with the presence of a pollen brush, they should be distinguished from it. We estimate that the pollen brush has arisen independently in the following eight taxa: 1) Crotalaria and Bolusia (Crotalaraieae), 2) subtribe Coluteinae (Galegeae), 3) Tephrosia subgenus Barbistyla (Millettieae), 4) Adenodolichos (Phaseoleae subtribe Cajaninae), 5) Clitoria (Phaseoleae subtribe Clitoriinae), 6) the subtribe Phaseolinae (Phaseoleae), 7) the Robinia group (Robinieae), and 8) the tribe Vicieae. Its hypothesized homology within each of these groups is supported by a cooccurrence with other taxonomic characters, both morphological and molecular.  相似文献

Summary The stigmas of the heterostylous genusPrimula are of the dry type without a free-flowing surface secretion. The papillae of the stigma surface cells of the two morphs, in pin (stigma exserted) and thrum (stamens exserted), bear a thin proteinaceous surface pellicle, overlying a discontinuous cuticle. The vacuoles of the papillate cells contain tannins, and tannin cells extend in files through the stigma heads and form a loose sheath surrounding the pollen-tube transmitting tract in the styles. The cells of the transmitting tissue in the stigma heads have a normal complement of organelles, and abundant ribosomal endoplasmic reticulum. The intercellular spaces contain an internal secretion which reacts cytochemically for both carbohydrate and protein. The transmitting tract in the styles forms a central core surrounded by several vascular strands. The cells are elongated, and the intercellular spaces here also have a carbohydrate-protein content. In a compatible pollination, thrum pollen tubes enter the stigma by penetrating the cuticle at the tip or on the flank of the pin papilla. Pin tubes on the thrum stigma enter between adjacent papillae, penetrating the thin cuticle at the base. The tubes grow through the transmitting tracts in the intercellular material.  相似文献

Constraints and evolution are central for the resolution of conflicts between mutualism species and for the stability of mutualisms. Dioecious fig species and their specific pollinators are also in conflict on the use of fig ovaries. Here, our experiments provided some data on the female florets allocation in two dioecious fig trees. The results showed that: (1) there is a bimodal distribution in the style–length of two fig trees’ female florets, moreover, the style–lengths are fairly similar and narrowly distributed in gall figs and more variation seems to occur in seed figs; (2) the styles in seed figs are a little longer than those in gall figs; (3) the pollinator's ovipositor lengths are shorter than the style–lengths in seed figs, but they are very similar to those in gall figs so that pollinators can only lay their eggs into the ovaries of gall figs, but not in seed figs; (4) the stigmas stick together, and the style is curly and flexible in seed syconia of the two fig species studied, so it is very difficult for the pollinators to find suitable ovipositing sites and lay their eggs in seed figs; (5) the variations of style-lengths are bigger in seed figs than gall figs, but they are smaller in dioecious figs than monoecious figs; (6) for Ficus cyrtophylla, about 10% styles are shorter in seed figs than those in gall figs, even shorter than ovipositor. In contrast, about 2% styles in gall figs of Ficus hispida are longer than its corresponding pollinator's ovipositor. In a word, our study suggests that the female floret's fate in these two fig species is mainly dependent on its style–length, but not all. The stigma shape and the floral organization can both also attribute to their fate in the two fig species studied.  相似文献

Pollination mechanisms within the genusCampanula were studied. Tests were undertaken to examine whether in vitro culture of pollen grains can serve as a useful tool for understanding the self- and cross-pollination mechanisms among species. Characteristics of pollen germination were interpreted in relation to mating system and floral biology. Four annual species (Campanula kremeri, C. dichotoma, C. afra, C. lusitanica), and two perennial species (C. rotundifolia andC. persicifolia) were investigated. In the annual species pollen germinability is controlled by (1) the age of pollen and/or (2) in what position pollen is deposited around the style. Correlations were found between pollen germinability and mating system in three of the four annual species. No correlations were found either between germinability and age of pollen or position on the style in the perennial species. Pollen germinability reached its maximum in the middle of the male phase in all species, except forC. dichotoma, which had a decreasing germinability throughout anthesis. The germinability was lowest at the time of stigma receptivity for all species except forC. persicifolia, where the stigma did not develop as long as pollen remained on the style. The pollen collecting hairs and pollen removal have been found to play an important role controlling the stigma development, thus affecting self-pollination. This was especially pronounced inC. persicifolia. Further studies will be undertaken to elucidate factors influencing pollination within the genusCampanula.  相似文献

The gynoecium of 122 species and 14 varieties of Cuscuta (dodders) was investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy to assess its diversity and evolution and to provide a morphological foundation for understanding the different reproductive strategies encountered in the genus. Data were optimized into a consensus tree constructed from three large-scale molecular phylogenies of the genus based on nuclear ITS and plastid trnL-F sequences. The number of styles combined with the stigma shape are the only floral/fruit characters that enable the separation of Cuscuta subgenera. In addition, gynoecium morphology is useful for delimiting species in some clades. The one-style gynoecium of subg. Monogynella is mostly likely ancestral whereas gynoecia with two styles are derived in subgenera Cuscuta and Grammica. Gynoecia with two styles encountered in the latter subgenera provide a greater morphological complexity and flexibility for various reproductive strategies. In subg. Cuscuta, both the equal styles and stigmas continue to elongate and modify their position after the flowers open, until pollination occurs. In subg. Grammica, the two unequal styles may cause a spatial separation of the sexes in the flower, herkogamy, while the two stigmas mature sequentially and have a differential timing of their receptivity for pollen. A nectary consisting of a ring of modified stomata at the base of the ovary, the equivalent of the hypogynous nectary disc present in many Convolvulaceae, was observed for the first time in all Cuscuta species. The vasculature of the styles is reduced, represented mostly by phloem; xylem is present only in subg. Monogynella. Some gynoecial characters, for example papillae diameter, stigma surface area, stigma width, and style width were moderately correlated with pollen volume, pollen polar?Cequatorial ratio and tectum perforation. Gynoecium features suggest that Cuscuta is allied with the ??bifid clade?? (Dicranostyloideae) in Convolvulaceae.  相似文献

Saffron (Crocus sativus L. Iridaceae) chromoplasts and other plastids were studied by electron microscope to determine their structure, origin and pigment localization. Plastids from pistils of floral buds and flowers at anthesis, dried and decoloured stigmas, and green and senescent leaves were examined. Results indicated that mature saffron chromoplasts occur in the red parts of stigmas and have a reticulo-tubular structure. They contain a reticulum of tubules and plastoglobules. Tubules formed dilated vesicles mainly while plastoglobules appeared numerous and scattered on the whole chromoplast. Chromoplasts appeared in red stigma of very young floral buds. They originated from amyloplasts, the only plastids occurring in the colourless basal portion of style, as well as in the parenchyma of ovary and corm. Transition forms of plastid as amylo-chromoplast, occur in the yellow parts of stigma and style. Senescent leaves did not show plastids with structure similar to the chromoplast of red stigma. Red pigmented and scented stigmas might cooperate in saffron reproduction by attracting pollinator.  相似文献
