Small cell lung cancer (SCC) has the most rapid growth rate of the four cell types and metastasizes early. Present imaging modalities for staging include chest x-ray, CT, MRI and bone scans. In this preliminary study, we assessed the clinical role of 99mTc-monoclonal antibody (MOAB) scintigraphy in five patients with histologically proven SCC. Each patient was infused with 20–30 mCi of 99mTc labeled Fab fragment of MOAB (NR-LU-10, NeoRx, Seattle, Wash.). Total body simultaneous anterior and posterior images were obtained 14–16 h post injection. SPECT images of the chest were obtained through a 360 ° rotation of the gamma camera and recorded on a 62 × 64 × 16 matrix. Images (1.2cm thick) were generated in transaxial, sagittal and coronal views.Fourteen of fifteen chest lesions detected by CT were confirmed by 99mTc MOAB scintigraphy. Scintigraphy detected one additional chest lesion not seen by CT. Scintigraphy failed to detect a brain lesion (2 cm), a chest lesion, and two adrenal lesions, all of which were seen by CT. In one patient with multiple (more than 10) lesions in the liver, both scintigraphy and CT detected all lesions. Three spine lesions seen on 99mTc MDP scan and positive for metastasis on MRI concentrated 99mTc MOAB, but two rib lesions seen on 99mTc MDP bone scan did not concentrate 99mTc MOAB. It is concluded from these preliminary results that the potential usefulness of 99mTc MOAB scintigraphy as a complementary imaging modality in the staging of small cell lung cancer should be investigated further.  相似文献

Pulmonary cancer when localized to the lung, is curable by operation. Tumors found by routine x-ray examination before they cause symptoms are much more often confined to the lung and as such are curable. Unlike other internal growths which are more hidden, lung tumors can often be seen early on x-ray films of the chest.X-ray films of the chest were made routinely on all patients entering a hospital, regardless of the nature of their illness. In all, some 40,000 films were made. Sixty patients were found to have unsuspected solitary lesions in the lung. Twenty-four of the lesions were diagnosed and treated by operation and removal. Twelve were diagnosed by other methods. Of the 36, eight were cancer of the lung, an incidence of 22 per cent. There were also 14 localized tuberculous nodules which are best treated by removal. Since early cancer is surgically curable, it is felt that everyone over the age of 40 should have a routine x-ray examination of the chest every six months. Solitary lesions of the lung found should be excised for diagnosis.  相似文献

IntroductionPulmonary embolism during pregnancy is a leading cause of maternal mortality. The aim of our study was to evaluate pregnant women with suspected pulmonary embolism prevalence of lesions on the lung perfusion as well as the relationship between the parenchymal lesions and various clinical factors and biological risk.MethodsThis is a retrospective study of 116 pregnant patients referred for suspected pulmonary embolism. The median age was 30 years, ranging from 15 to 47 years and the median gestational term was 31 weeks with a range of 12 to 40 weeks. Suspicion of pulmonary embolism was established with the presence of clinical signs (dyspnea, chest pain and palpitations). No patient had received a chest radiograph. The patients underwent planar perfusion scintigraphy with injected activity of 40 to 50 MBq of macroaggregates of human albumin (MAA) labeled with 99mTc. The scintigraphic results were classified according to the PIOPED criteria, depending on the likelihood of EP. The scans with low or intermediate probability were included in the same group, that of indeterminate results.ResultsThe scan was positive (with high probability) in 16 patients (13.8%), normal in 78 patients (67.2%) and classified as inconclusive in 22 patients (18.9%). In 16 patients with a positive scan, the lesions were interested the left lung in 10 cases (62.5%), the right lung in 1 case (6.25%) and were bilateral in 5 cases (31.25%).ConclusionsIn cases of suspected pulmonary embolism in a pregnant woman, the choice of imaging technique depends on both its diagnostic value and also its adverse effects. Lung scintigraphy is the examination to be carried out first in pregnant women with a chest radiograph. In others, it is that angiography should be performed as first line.  相似文献

Introduction

Glomangiomas are rare soft tissue tumors originating from the perivascular tissue. The most common localization is in the dermis of the extremities, with a few reports of respiratory tract involvement.

Case presentation

We present the case of a 48-year-old Caucasian female patient with a glomangioma in her left lung. It was diagnosed incidentally as a coin lesion in a chest X-ray performed during preoperative work-up for a gastric Roux-en-Y bypass for alimentary obesity. A computed tomography scan of her chest revealed a lesion in her upper left lung lobe 31mm in diameter. After resection, a histopathological examination presented typical signs of a glomangioma, originating from the pulmonary parenchyma.

Conclusion

Glomangiomas of the lung are extremely rare. However, whenever incidental lesions in the lung parenchyma are found, glomangioma should be taken into diagnostic consideration. To the best of our knowledge, signs of malignancy have not previously been reported in the literature. In fact, this tumor entity shows benign behavior, with a low potential for recurrence after complete resection.  相似文献

We studied lung mechanics and regional lung function in five young men during restrictive chest strapping. The effects on lung mechanics were similar to those noted by others in that lung elastic recoil increased as did maximum expiratory flow at low lung volumes. Chest strapping reduced the maximum expiratory flow observed at a given elastic recoil pressure. Breathing helium increased maximum expiratory flow less when subjects were strapped than when they were not. These findings indicated that strapping decreased the caliber of airways upstream from the equal pressure point. Regional lung volumes from apex to base were measured with xenon 133 while subjects were seated. The distribution of regional volumes was measured at RV, and at volumes equal to strapped FRC and strapped TLC; no change due to chest strapping was observed. Similarly, the regional distribution of 133Xe boluses inhaled at RV and strapped TLC was unaffected by chest strapping. Closing capacity decreased with chest strapping. We concluded that airway closure decreased during chest strapping and that airway closure was not the cause of the observed increase in elastic recoil of the lung. The combination of decreased slope of the static pressure-volume curve and unchanged regional volumes suggested that strapping increased the apex-to-base pleural pressure gradient.  相似文献

目的:探讨人腺病毒55型感染肺部病变与外周血淋巴细胞改变的关系及致病意义。方法:以50例经胸部CT证实为腺病毒肺炎的患者为研究对象(肺炎组),调查其外周血细胞及T淋巴细胞亚群变化情况,并与同期腺病毒55型感染未出现肺部病变的患者30例(非肺炎组)对照;亚组分析50例肺炎组中多肺叶病变与单肺叶病变患者之间T淋巴细胞变化的差异。结果:与非肺炎组患者相比,肺炎组患者急性期外周血淋巴细胞比例明显降低、单核细胞比例明显升高(P0.01);肺炎组CD3+T淋巴细胞比例、CD3+CD4+T淋巴细胞比例及CD4/CD8比值较非肺炎组均有明显降低(P0.01)。亚组分析显示,肺炎组患者肺部病变范围不同,T淋巴细胞亚群的变化亦有差异,多肺叶病变组患者CD3+CD8+T淋巴细胞比例较单肺叶病变组明显升高、CD4/CD8比值较单肺叶病变组明显降低(P0.05)。结论:HAdv-55感染引起肺炎病变时,宿主存在明显的细胞免疫功能受损,且与肺部病变程度有一定正相关。  相似文献

Introduction

The sensitivity of CT based lung cancer screening for the detection of early lung cancer is balanced by the high number of benign lung nodules identified, the unknown consequences of radiation from the test, and the potential costs of a CT based screening program. CAD chest radiography may improve the sensitivity of standard chest radiography while minimizing the risks of CT based screening.

Methods

Study subjects were age 40–75 years with 10+ pack-years of smoking and/or an additional risk for developing lung cancer. Subjects were randomized to receive a PA view chest radiograph or placebo control (went through the process of being imaged but were not imaged). Images were reviewed first without then with the assistance of CAD. Actionable nodules were reported and additional evaluation was tracked. The primary outcome was the rate of developing symptomatic advanced stage lung cancer.

Results

1,424 subjects were enrolled. 710 received a CAD chest radiograph, 29 of whom were found to have an actionable lung nodule on prevalence screening. Of the 15 subjects who had a chest CT performed for additional evaluation, a lung nodule was confirmed in 4, 2 of which represented lung cancer. Both of the cancers were seen by the radiologist unaided and were identified by the CAD chest radiograph. The cumulative incidence of symptomatic advanced lung cancer was 0.42 cases per 100 person-years in the control arm; there were no events in the screening arm.

Conclusions

Further evaluation is necessary to determine if CAD chest radiography has a role as a lung cancer screening tool.ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT01663155  相似文献

Plain chest radiography plays a major role in the diagnosis and follow-up of pulmonary tuberculosis in childhood. The aim of our study was to investigate the distribution of characteristic chest radiographic findings at diagnosis in children with pulmonary tuberculosis. The age of the patients and the type and localization of radiographic changes at admission were retrospectively analyzed. We reviewed chest radiographs in 204 children admitted from January 1, 1991 until June 30, 1994 for newly diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis. Mean age +/- SD was 6.4 +/- 4.2 years (range 0-14). The most common lesion was lymphadenopathy (found in 172 children, 84.3%). It was significantly more common in the youngest age group (0-4 years) and was more significantly present in the right hilo-mediastinal region. Parenchymal changes were found in 125 children (61.3%). They were also significantly more common in the young age group and in the right lung. Other less common lesions included pleuritis, atelectasis, destructive-cavitary lesions and miliary dissemination. In conclusion, the leading radiographic finding in pulmonary tuberculosis in childhood remains hilar lymphadenopathy, but parenchymal changes are clearly strongly present, and should be sought and appreciated in the diagnostic work-up for pulmonary tuberculosis in childhood.  相似文献

Mitochondria in eukaryotic cells are derived from bacteria in evolution. Like bacteria, mitochondria contain DNA with unmethylated CpG motifs and formyl peptides, both of which have recently been shown to be damage associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and induce immune response and cell injury. Based on the facts that circulating mitochondrial DAMPs (mtDAMPs) are increased in the patients of trauma or burn injury who also have proteinuria, that mtDAMPs can activate immune cells which in turn secrete glomerular permeability factors, that renal intrinsic cells express a variety of DAMP receptors, and that mtDAMPs can directly increase endothelial cell permeability in vitro, we hypothesized that mtDAMPs may be novel circulating factors inducing proteinuria and kidney injury. We tested this hypothesis by directly injecting mtDAMPs into rodents and examining urinary protein and kidney histology. We prepared mtDAMP samples, including mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and mitochondrial debris (MTD), from rodent liver. In mice, injection of mtDNA for 20 μg/ml initial concentration in circulation (much higher than the clinical range), did not cause any renal manifestations. However, an increased dose leading to 45 μg/ml initial concentration in circulation resulted in a transient, slight increase in urinary albumin. In rats, MTD injection resulting in 450 μg/ml initial concentration of MTD protein in circulation, which was much higher than the clinical range, caused mild, transient proteinuria and lung lesions. Multiple injections of such large amount of either mtDNA or MTD into rodents on 3 consecutive days also failed in inducing proteinuria and kidney injury. In summary, clinical levels of circulating mtDAMPs do not induce proteinuria and clinically irrelevant high levels of mtDAMPs cause only a transient and slight increase in urinary protein in rodents, suggesting that circulating mtDAMPs may not be responsible for the proteinuria and kidney injury in patients with trauma, burn injury, and other diseases.  相似文献

Background

In school-aged children with cystic fibrosis (CF) structural lung damage assessed using chest CT is associated with abnormal ventilation distribution. The primary objective of this analysis was to determine the relationships between ventilation distribution outcomes and the presence and extent of structural damage as assessed by chest CT in infants and young children with CF.

Methods

Data of infants and young children with CF diagnosed following newborn screening consecutively reviewed between August 2005 and December 2009 were analysed. Ventilation distribution (lung clearance index and the first and second moment ratios [LCI, M1/M0 and M2/M0, respectively]), chest CT and airway pathology from bronchoalveolar lavage were determined at diagnosis and then annually. The chest CT scans were evaluated for the presence or absence of bronchiectasis and air trapping.

Results

Matched lung function, chest CT and pathology outcomes were available in 49 infants (31 male) with bronchiectasis and air trapping present in 13 (27%) and 24 (49%) infants, respectively. The presence of bronchiectasis or air trapping was associated with increased M2/M0 but not LCI or M1/M0. There was a weak, but statistically significant association between the extent of air trapping and all ventilation distribution outcomes.

Conclusion

These findings suggest that in early CF lung disease there are weak associations between ventilation distribution and lung damage from chest CT. These finding are in contrast to those reported in older children. These findings suggest that assessments of LCI could not be used to replace a chest CT scan for the assessment of structural lung disease in the first two years of life. Further research in which both MBW and chest CT outcomes are obtained is required to assess the role of ventilation distribution in tracking the progression of lung damage in infants with CF.  相似文献

The paper summarizes the results of examination of 100 patients with malignant tumors of the lung. The results of X-ray study, linear tomography, and computed tomography (CT) used in the examination of patients with lung cancer were compared by using as an indicator the following parameters: to make diagnosis of lung cancer, to reveal mediastinal intergrowths, to detect enlarged lymph nodes, pulmonary metastases, and pleural lesions, to obtain information on tumor spread into the chest, to reveal growths into the vascular walls. To evaluate the efficiency of the techniques in solving the above diagnostic tasks, a statistical analysis including the estimation of their accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity was made. Recommendations for examination of patients with lung cancer were drawn up for therapeutic institutions of different types.  相似文献

A total of 182 percutaneous trans-thoracic aspiration biopsies were performed in 164 patients over a three-year period. In malignant neoplasms arising in the lung the diagnostic accuracy rate was 84%. In the non-malignant localized parenchymal lesions the accuracy drops considerably unless the lesion is cystic or cavitary. Some patients with non-parenchymal lesions were selected to assess further the value of this procedure. It proved much less rewarding in lesions of the chest wall, diaphragm and also in diffuse parenchymal disease. These lesions may be more accurately identified by other methods of biopsy. Lesions presenting as a mediastinal mass are an intermediate group and in selected cases helpful information can often be obtained by small-bore needle aspiration, particularly if a pericardial, bronchogenic or thymic cyst is suspected. Recent reports have shown that the aspiration of pulmonary lesions can be utilized to obtain viable tumour cells for chemosensitivity testing. The aspiration of nodular pulmonary lesions should be considered when a diagnosis is not forthcoming from the usual investigative means, since there has been little morbidity and no mortality in the series.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Lambert--Eaton myasthenic syndrome is a rare disorder and it is known as a paraneoplastic neurological syndrome. Small cell lung cancer often accompanies this syndrome. Lambert--Eaton myasthenic syndrome associated with lung adenocarcinoma is extremely rare; there are only a few reported cases worldwide. CASE PRESENTATION: A 75-year-old Japanese man with a past history of chronic rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogren syndrome was diagnosed with Lambert--Eaton myasthenic syndrome by electromyography and serum anti-P/Q-type voltage-gated calcium channel antibody level preceding the diagnosis of lung cancer. A chest computed tomography to screen for malignant lesions revealed an abnormal shadow in the lung. Although a histopathological examination by bronchoscopic study could not reveal the malignancy, lung cancer was mostly suspected after the results of a chest computed tomography and [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography. An intraoperative diagnosis based on the frozen section obtained by tumor biopsy was adenocarcinoma so the patient underwent a lobectomy of the right lower lobe and lymph node dissection with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. The permanent pathological examination was the same as the frozen diagnosis (pT2aN1M0: Stage IIa: TNM staging 7th edition). Immunohistochemistry revealed that most of the cancer cells were positive for P/Q-type voltage-gated calcium channel. CONCLUSIONS: Our case is a rare combination of Lambert--Eaton myasthenic syndrome associated with lung adenocarcinoma, rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogren syndrome, and to the best of our knowledge it is the first report that indicates the presence of voltage-gated calcium channel in lung adenocarcinoma by immunostaining.  相似文献

目的:探讨肺腺癌的临床表现及影像学特点。方法:回顾性分析52例肺腺癌的临床表现及影像学资料,从该病的临床表现、影像学特点进行归纳及总结性研究。结果:52例肺腺癌患者主要症状为咳嗽、咯血、胸闷和其他转移病灶表现,转移多见于脑、肝、骨骼、肾上腺等,发生淋巴结转移患者的5年生存率明显下降;47例患者行普通X线胸片检查,6例未见明显异常病灶,13例为中心型肺癌,25例为周围型肺癌,3例为细支气管-肺泡癌;52例患者均行CT扫描检查,各叶均可发生,病灶呈圆形、椭圆形、分叶状,病灶大多边缘有切迹、细小毛刺或棘状突起者。结论:结合临床表现,CT能够较准确的对肺癌做出诊断,组织病理学检查可确诊为肺腺癌  相似文献

30–60% of cancer patients develop lung metastases, mostly from primary tumors in the colon-rectum, lung, head and neck area, breast and kidney. Nowadays, stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT ) is considered the ideal modality for treating pulmonary metastases.When lung metastases are suspected, complete disease staging includes a total body computed tomography (CT ) and/or positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET -CT ) scan. PET -CT has higher specificity and sensitivity than a CT scan when investigating mediastinal lymph nodes, diagnosing a solitary lung lesion and detecting distant metastases. For treatment planning, a multi-detector planning CT scan of the entire chest is usually performed, with or without intravenous contrast media or esophageal lumen opacification, especially when central lesions have to be irradiated. Respiratory management is recommended in lung SRT, taking the breath cycle into account in planning and delivery. For contouring, co-registration and/or matching planning CT and diagnostic images (as provided by contrast enhanced CT or PET-CT ) are useful, particularly for central tumors. Doses and fractionation schedules are heterogeneous, ranging from 33 to 60 Gy in 3–6 fractions. Independently of fractionation schedule, a BED10 > 100 Gy is recommended for high local control rates. Single fraction SRT (ranges 15–30 Gy) is occasionally administered, particularly for small lesions. SRT provides tumor control rates of up to 91% at 3 years, with limited toxicities.The present overview focuses on technical and clinical aspects related to treatment planning, dose constraints, outcome and toxicity of SRT for lung metastases.  相似文献

Role and accuracy of rapid on‐site evaluation of CT‐guided fine needle aspiration cytology of lung nodules Objective: To prospectively investigate the role of trans‐thoracic fine needle aspiration cytology (FNA) and the value of rapid on‐site evaluation (ROSE) in the clinical management of patients with pulmonary nodules/masses. Computed tomography (CT)‐guided FNA is commonly employed for the diagnosis of lung lesions although its position in the diagnostic work‐up is still a matter of debate. Methods: We reviewed 311 patients (211 males and 100 females, mean age 69.5 years) admitted to the University of Padova from 2004 to 2008, correlating the results of cytology with the available histological findings obtained from biopsies, surgery or autopsy. Results: Smears were adequate in 305 cases (98%) and inadequate in six (2%); a diagnosis of malignancy was achieved in 263 cases (86.2%); 39 cases (12.8%) were classified as non‐malignant; and three cases (1%) were classified as suspect for malignancy. When correlated with histology, FNA with ROSE discriminated malignant versus non‐malignant lesions (Cohen’s kappa 0.78), with three false negatives (sensitivity 96.3%, specificity 100%). Moreover, a satisfactory overall agreement of 71.4% was achieved in differentiating the cancer histological types. Pneumothorax occurred in 13 cases, haemoptysis in four, and chest pain in three. A single aspiration was sufficient in 79.6% of patients; two aspirations were needed in 17.4% and three in 3%. The low complication rate was related to the limited number of aspirations needed due to ROSE. Conclusions: FNA with ROSE is a safe and useful tool in the diagnostic work‐up of lung cancer patients, with no contraindications to its use as the first diagnostic procedure for all patients with peripheral lung lesions. FNA with ROSE should be reconsidered in the guidelines for diagnosing and managing lung cancer.  相似文献

RationaleObjective, reproducible quantification of the extent of abnormalities seen on a chest radiograph would improve the user-friendliness of a previously proposed severity scoring system for pulmonary tuberculosis and could be helpful in monitoring response to therapy, including in clinical trials.MethodsIn this study we report the development and evaluation of a simple tool using free image editing software (GIMP) to accurately and reproducibly quantify the area of affected lung on the chest radiograph of tuberculosis patients. As part of a pharmacokinetic study in Lima, Peru, a chest radiograph was performed on patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and this was subsequently photographed using a digital camera. The GIMP software was used by two independent and trained readers to estimate the extent of affected lung (expressed as a percentage of total lung area) in each radiograph and the resulting radiographic SCORE.Results56 chest radiographs were included in the reading analysis. The Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) between the 2 observers was 0.977 (p<0.001) for the area of lung affected and was 0.955 (p<0.001) for the final score; and the kappa coefficient of Interobserver agreement for both the area of lung affected and the score were 0.9 (p<0.001) and 0.86 (p<0.001) respectively.ConclusionsThis high level of between-observer agreement suggests that this freely available software could constitute a simple and useful tool for robust evaluation of individual and serial chest radiographs.  相似文献

With the increasing interest in health screening with chest CT Ground-glass nodule (GGN) has become one of the common lung lesions encountered in daily medical practice. Because lung adenocarcinoma in the form of GGN is an ideal model for studying early lung carcinogenesis, 11 GGN and normal lung specimens from 6 never smoker patients were studied by single-cell RNA sequencing. Lung cancer cells showed enrichment of gene sets related to small vesicle processing and surfactant homeostasis compared to non-malignant lung epithelial cells, suggesting the dysregulation of surfactant pathway may be involved in early lung carcinogenesis. Along with cancer-associated fibroblasts showing enrichment of gene sets involved in negative regulation of protein kinase activity and negative regulation of endothelial cell proliferation, tumor microenvironment (TME) was dominated by infiltration of TNFRSF4+/TNFRSF18+/CTLA4+ regulatory T cells (Treg) and depletion of CD8+ cytotoxic T cells (TC) and γδTC. Majority of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue B cells (BCs) and follicular BCs were detected within tumor tissue, which was associated with CXCL13 overexpressed in intratumoral Tregs and CD4+ memory TCs. Coordination of components of the TME towards immune evasion is governed by Tregs from the onset of lung cancer, requiring unremitting efforts to target and overcome them. This provision of information on changes in cancer cell-specific biomarkers and TME using early lung cancer from never smokers will provide new insight into early lung carcinogenesis and useful targets for treatment.  相似文献

Abdominal distension (AD) occurs in pregnancy and is also commonly seen in patients with ascites from various causes. Because the abdomen forms part of the "chest wall," the purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of AD on ventilatory mechanics. Airway pressure, four (vertical) regional pleural pressures, and abdominal pressure were measured in five anesthetized, paralyzed, and ventilated upright pigs. The effects of AD on the lung and chest wall were studied by inflating a liquid-filled balloon placed in the abdominal cavity. Respiratory system, chest wall, and lung pressure-volume (PV) relationships were measured on deflation from total lung capacity to residual volume, as well as in the tidal breathing range, before and 15 min after abdominal pressure was raised. Increasing abdominal pressure from 3 to 15 cmH2O decreased total lung capacity and functional residual capacity by approximately 40% and shifted the respiratory system and chest wall PV curves downward and to the right. Much smaller downward shifts in lung deflation curves were seen, with no change in the transdiaphragmatic PV relationship. All regional pleural pressures increased (became less negative) and, in the dependent region, approached 0 cmH2O at functional residual capacity. Tidal compliances of the respiratory system, chest wall, and lung were decreased 43, 42, and 48%, respectively. AD markedly alters respiratory system mechanics primarily by "stiffening" the diaphragm/abdomen part of the chest wall and secondarily by restricting lung expansion, thus shifting the lung PV curve as seen after chest strapping. The less negative pleural pressures in the dependent lung regions suggest that nonuniformities of ventilation could also be accentuated and gas exchange impaired by AD.  相似文献

Thixotropy conditioning of inspiratory muscles consisting of maximal inspiratory effort performed at an inflated lung volume is followed by an increase in end-expiratory position of the rib cage in normal human subjects. When performed at a deflated lung volume, conditioning is followed by a reduction in end-expiratory position. The present study was performed to determine whether changes in end-expiratory chest wall and lung volumes occur after thixotropy conditioning. We first examined the acute effects of conditioning on chest wall volume during subsequent five-breath cycles using respiratory inductive plethysmography (n = 8). End-expiratory chest wall volume increased after conditioning at an inflated lung volume (P < 0.05), which was attained mainly by rib cage movements. Conditioning at a deflated lung volume was followed by reductions in end-expiratory chest wall volume, which was explained by rib cage and abdominal volume changes (P < 0.05). End-expiratory esophageal pressure decreased and increased after conditioning at inflated and deflated lung volumes, respectively (n = 3). These changes in end-expiratory volumes and esophageal pressure were greatest for the first breath after conditioning. We also found that an increase in spirometrically determined inspiratory capacity (n = 13) was maintained for 3 min after conditioning at a deflated lung volume, and a decrease for 1 min after conditioning at an inflated lung volume. Helium-dilution end-expiratory lung volume increased and decreased after conditioning at inflated and deflated lung volumes, respectively (both P < 0.05; n = 11). These results suggest that thixotropy conditioning changes end-expiratory volume of the chest wall and lung in normal human subjects.  相似文献
