Foliar and soil application in concentrations below the recommended rate of the herbicide 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole to the host plantPhaseolus vulgaris L. results in structural alterations of the protein-synthesizing apparatus of midgut and salivary-gland cells of the phytophagous spider miteTetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) independent of its mode of application. With prolonged incubation times cytological defects become more intense, and spread to more cells and tissues. Resultant effects on yolk and egg formation were expressed as an inhibition of egg deposition that led to a decrease in the reproduction rate ofT. urticae.Consequences of 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole action onT. urticae are discussed with regard to its value to a host-plant/parasite model, agricultural practices and environmental impacts.  相似文献

Herbicide strips are used in apple orchards to promote tree growth and survival, to increase yield and to reduce the risk of rodent damage to tree bark. However, herbicide strips, particularly wider ones, may cause problems including soil erosion, reduced organic matter, leaching of nitrates into ground water and increased incidence of plant diseases and pests, including two-spotted spider mites, Tetranychus urticae Koch. In this 2 year study we monitored mite dynamics in apple trees and used sticky bands on tree trunks to determine rates of T. urticae immigration into Nova Spy apple trees in plots with wide (2 m) or narrow (0.5 m) herbicide strips. Use of wider herbicide strips promoted two risk factors that could trigger outbreaks of tetranychid mites. First, concentrations of leaf N in apple trees were higher and those of P and K were lower with the wide strips. Such changes in nutritional quality of leaves would increase the potential for more rapid population growth of T. urticae, and to a lesser extent, the European red mite, Panonychus ulmi (Koch). Second, there were higher rates of T. urticae immigration from the ground cover vegetation into the trees. In 2006, and for most of 2007, densities of T. urticae were higher with wide herbicide strips, whereas densities of P. ulmi were not enhanced. However, by late August to early September in 2007, densities of both tetranychids were lower with wide herbicide strips. This is because both risk factors were counterbalanced, and eventually negated, by the enhanced action of phytoseiid predators, mostly Typhlodromus pyri Scheuten. From July through September 2006, ratios of phytoseiids to tetranychids were always several-fold lower with wide herbicide strips but in 2007, from mid-July onwards, predator–prey ratios were usually several-fold higher with wide strips. However, this numerical response of phytoseiids to prey density can only occur where the pesticide program in orchards is not too harsh on phytoseiids. Hence the impact of width of herbicide strip is contingent on the composition and size of the phytoseiid complex and the impact of pesticides on predation.  相似文献

Single topical doses of pure p,p'-DDT and dieldrin (HEOD) were given to the last larval instars of Chorthippus brunneus and Aglais urticae bred under standardized conditions. The symptoms of acute toxicity followed the same pattern in all four insect-insecticide combinations, and there was a clear inverse correlation between the toxicity of absorbed insecticide and concentration of total lipid when dosed, both being dependent on age. It is probable that developmental changes in concentration of total lipid cause changes in resistance to the lipophilic and hydrophobic organochlorine insecticides. These results illustrate the importance of using the amount of insecticide absorbed rather than the amount applied for the interpretation of data. Unabsorbed insecticide was estimated by methanol rinses; there was some evidence that these remove a small proportion of absorbed insecticide from A. urticae, but not from C. brunneus. Sublethal effects tend to occur at times of lipid mobilization. There was considerable correlation between insecticide persistence and the occurrence of sublethal effects. Both species convert DDT to DDE readily, although only A. urticae retains DDE for long. No obvious effects were detected in C. brunneus. The only effect in A. urticae was retarded pupation when a large dose was applied fairly near the time of pupation. Dieldrin was more toxic and persistent, and caused latent toxicity, deformation of adults, sterility, and hyperactivity of adults in A. urticae, although there were no apparent effects on C. brunneus except for a possible decrease in the time to moult. Neither insecticide affected water uptake in C. brunneus eggs, and development continued normally up to hatch. The hatched nymphs were unaffected by DDT, most of which was in the egg membranes, and the nymphs rapidly metabolized the rest to DDE. Dieldrin did kill nymphs at eclosion. There was no evidence of effects on the genetic constitution of future generations, but the survival and reproductive abilities of individuals can obviously be affected. I conclude, from two measures of the amount of insecticide acquired by A. urticae in the field, and from the amount required to produce sublethal effects, that A. urticae is probably, with present levels of contamination, unaffected by DDT or dieldrin outside sprayed areas, but more information is needed on other possible effects, and on amounts found in wild specimens. I discuss how far this conclusion applies to other insect species.  相似文献

Abstract

Two factors were examined to determine their effect on the life history, reproduction and life table parameters in the predacious mite Phytoseiulus macropilis (Banks) in the laboratory. The factors studied included multiple mating and various prey stages of Tetranychus urticae Koch. When females fed on mixed actives (protonymphs and deutonymphs) of T. urticae, the fecundity of females mated more than once was 1.7 times higher than in females mated only once, also oviposition period and adult longevity was longer. The adult longevity and life span of P. macropilis were similar when fed on mixed actives, eggs (0 – 24-h-old) and (0 – 48-h-old) of T. urticae, while both periods were increased and reproduction was higher when fed on older eggs (72 – 96-h-old) of T. urticae. The total number of eggs deposited by females was significantly higher on eggs of (various ages) than on mixed actives of T. urticae. Life table parameters showed that a diet of (72 – 96-h-old) eggs of T. urticae provided the longest generation time (11.066 days) and female longevity (33.54 days) as well as the highest intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm = 0.36755) and greatest total fecundity which resulted in the highest net reproductive rate (Ro = 58.4136) value. The adult female consumed daily an average of 6.8 mixed actives of T. urticae during its life cycle, while it was increased to 13.6 during the oviposition period. The daily (72 – 96-h-old) eggs of T. urticae consumed by female P. macropilis during its life cycle and adult longevity was significantly higher than that recorded on either (0 – 24-h-old) or (0 – 48-h-old) eggs of T. urticae.  相似文献

Effects of host-plant quality on two-spotted spider mite,Tetranychus urticae Koch, mate location and guarding behaviors were described using a no-choice bioassay. Males and quiescent deutonymphs were collected from lima bean leaves of one of two host qualities. High-chlorophyll (HC) leaves had been infested with spider mites for 6–10 days, while low-chlorophyll (LC) leaves had been infested for>21 days. Three parameters of maleT. urticae guarding behavior were quantified: approach arrestment, and arrestment duration. HC males approached quiescent deutonymphs more often than did LC males, even though host quality of females had no effect on male approach frequency. HC males were arrested more frequently by HC quiescent deutonymphs than were LC males, while LC males were arrested more often by LC females than were HC males. However, a different pattern was observed for arrestment duration. HC males were arrested for twice as long by LC quiescent deutonymphs than by HC females, while the LC-male arrestment durations elicited by HC and LC females did not differ. These results show that host-plant quality affectsT. urticae intersexual communication, in terms of both the female signal and the male response. Whether the differing male responses observed in this study indicate alternativeT. urticae mating strategies or are incidental by-products of host-induced physiological changes remains to be determined.  相似文献

Immature stages of the predacious mite, Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) were reared on eggs of Tetranychus urticae Koch and gravid females were preserved on pollen of maize, Zea mays L. for 30, 45, 60 and 80?days. Afterwards, pollen was shifted to prey eggs for 15?days to evaluate their survival, fecundity and reproductive recovery period. All adult females of N. californicus survived the different maintenance periods and the following 15?days after pollen switch to the prey. Furthermore, predator females consuming pollen produced relatively few eggs during the preservation experiments, while they laid the majority of eggs during 15?days after pollen change to T. urticae without a second mating. The fecundity during the conservation periods significantly increased with increasing the maintenance period, whereas the reverse occurred subsequent to the shift to the prey. Moreover, the reproductive recovery period after the switch to T. urticae was inversely associated with the preservation period. Therefore, maize pollen is a useful alternative food for long-term survival and for maintaining fecundity of N. californicus females to exhibit an adequate numerical response to T. urticae at a subsequent time.  相似文献

The effectiveness of the predatory mite, Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot (Acari: Phytoseidae), as a suppressive agent of the twospotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae), was evaluated on greenhouse ivy geraniums at predator:prey release ratios of 1:60, 1:20, and 1:4. Releases at each predator:prey ratio were made at moderate and high T. urticae densities to determine if initial pest population size influenced the suppressive ability of the predator. At ratios of 1:4 and 1:20, P. persimilis significantly reduced T. urticae populations 1 week after release and kept them at low levels thereafter. Plant damage also was significantly reduced at these densities. After 4 weeks, the P. persimilis that were released at a ratio of 1:4 consistently reduced T. urticae populations from densities as high as 30 T. urticae per leaf to fewer than 0.6 per leaf. We found no interaction between release ratio and T. urticae density, indicating that predator effectiveness remains constant, at least within the range of T. urticae densities used. Our work demonstrates the potential of P. persimilis to provide effective control of T. urticae on a greenhouse-grown floricultural crop at a moderately low predator:prey ratio (1:20) and over a range of initial pest densities. However, we recommend that P. persimilis be released at a ratio of 1:4 for greatest reliability and successful control of T. urticae on ivy geraniums.  相似文献

The excessive application of pesticides raises environmental pollution levels, necessitating the need to identify alternative substances that do not cause ecological damage. In this context, the toxicity and residual efficacy of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) compared to abamectin against adult females of T. urticae was evaluated under laboratory and greenhouse conditions. In addition, the effects of tested NPs on the biological parameters of T. urticae as well as their side effects on the predatory mite, Neoseiulus californicus were examined. In laboratory bioassays, LC50 values of TiO2 and ZnO NPs were 5.82 and 7.09 mg L–1, respectively, compared to 4.90 mg L–1 in abamectin 72 hr post-treatment. TiO2 and ZnO NPs had a prolongation effect on both the developmental and reproductive durations with mean life spans of 33.18 ± 0.72 days and 30.53 ± 0.82 days in the case of TiO2 and ZnO NPs, respectively, compared to 24.65 ± 0.53 days in the normal case. Treated T. urticae females produced lesser fecundities (10–22 eggs less than the normal mean) and decreased hatchability rates. The highest mortality percentages in T. urticae populations were 92.4 % and 90.0 % after 24 h of spraying with TiO2 and ZnO NPs, respectively, compared to 98.4 % in abamectin. In contrast, tested NPs demonstrated less toxicity in N. californicus populations with no phytotoxicity on treated leaves. This study is the first in Egypt to investigate the NPs control of T. urticae mites infesting cucumber plants and the effects on their biology and natural enemies.  相似文献

Summary A Penicillium sp. and a Trichoderma sp. were isolated from a soil previously treated with alachlor which is commonly used as herbicide. These fungi were found to degrade alachlor and only one degradation product was observed after 15 days of incubation. Whereas two products were noticed after 30 days with both the test organisms. re]19740913  相似文献

Abstract: Tetranychus urticae is a serious pest of several crops worldwide. It performs differentially on diverse host‐plant species. Because dispersion is mainly passive, the process of host‐plant selection should be viewed in terms of host‐plant acceptance and not in terms of host finding. The objectives of this study were to investigate: (1) the acceptance of strawberry (S) in comparison with onion (O), leek (L) and parsley (P) by T. urticae; and (2) the suitability of these host plants for the performance of T. urticae, in terms of fecundity and survival. Host‐plant acceptance was measured through females that settled on a test plant or females that left for another host plant. In another experiment, for a duration of 5 days, individual newly mated females were assigned to discs of each host plant and the fecundity, the maximum number of offspring obtained from one female that settled on the disc, the survival and the percentage of females that oviposited at least one egg were analysed. A choice test to measure the preference of females for different host plants was performed. Movements took place towards (S) from the three plants: (O), (L) and (P). Mites significantly moved to other places in the Petri dishes from leek‐origin discs. Dispersal of T. urticae from (S) to other host‐plant discs was similar for all plants. Mean fecundity was higher on (S) than on the other plants. The maximum number of offspring per female was highest on (S), lowest on (L) and (O), and intermediate on (P). Survival of females and percentage of females that laid at least one egg were independent of the host plant. The choice test showed that oviposition was higher on (S) and (P) and very poor on (L) and (O) and that more females settled on (S) and (P). Although mites migrated from parsley to strawberry, the first host plant has a higher acceptance of T. urticae in terms of maximum number of offspring per female than onion and leek, and a lower performance in terms of fecundity than strawberry. Parsley could be a good candidate for an associate plant in a strawberry crop; however, it needs more research under field conditions.  相似文献

The effectiveness of the predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias‐Henriot (Acari: Phytoseidae) in controlling the two‐spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) was evaluated in commercial strawberry greenhouses in two areas of Korea. Optimum release times for P. persimilis were investigated by case studies. Control effects of the two‐spotted spider mite by release of the predatory mite were shown. There was mostly good control by the release of P. persimilis when there were fewer than 0.9 T. urticae per leaf. We recommend it would be ideal to release P. persimilis twice in December and once in February for very early strawberry harvest, and three times from February to March (after overwintering) for early harvest.  相似文献

Ethanolic extract of Mentha pulegium was evaluated against the adults of important arthropod pest species, the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae. Potential acaricidal impact of plant was determined by contact application. Phytotoxicity was recorded after 24 h. The value of LC50 was 59,149 mg L?1. Also, LT50 values were 27.42, 25.56 and 19.79 h for 35,000, 50,000 and 100,000 mg L?1, respectively. Also, results showed that this ethanolic extract had impact on repellency of T. urticae. All of the tested concentrations were similar in the repellency test. On the other hand, the used concentrations (1000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mg L?1) affected on the oviposition of mite females. These extract doses significantly decreased the egg laying on the treated surface. The current study indicated that this ethanolic extract can be used as a safe acaricide on T. urticae.  相似文献

Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) is a promising agent for successful Tetranychus urticae Koch control through conservation techniques, in strawberry crops in La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina). In prey–predator interaction, initial relative densities have an important effect on system dynamics. The economic threshold level (ETL) used for this pest in the present study was 50 active mites per leaflet. In our laboratory experiments, initial T. urticae to N. californicus ratio had a significant effect on the population abundance of T. urticae at a 7-day period. When pest/predator ratio was 5/1 (at initial pest densities from 5 to 15 females/leaflet) the final number of active T. urticae/leaflet was significantly lower than the ETL, while at 20 females/leaflet this number did not differ from the ETL. At 7.5/1 ratio, the final number of active T. urticae/leaflet, at initial pest densities from 5 to 15 females/leaflet, reached the ETL without surpassing it. At 10/1 and 15/1 ratios, pest densities exceeded the ETL only at 15 initial T. urticae/leaflet. Most greenhouse and field observations were consistent with the predictions of a graphical model based on experimental results. This predator was very effective in limiting pest densities at a 7-day period and within the range of pest–predator ratios and absolute densities used in this study. Conservation of N. californicus promoting favorable pest/predator ratios may result in early control of T. urticae.  相似文献

The effect of post-treatment temperature on the toxicity of cyhexatin to cyhexatin-susceptible (S) and resistant (R) strains ofTetranychus urticae Koch was investigated. Females and developmental stages of both strains showed a positive temperature-toxicity coefficient with wettable powder (WP) and emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulations of cyhexatin. Females of the S strain were 3.0× and 2.9× less susceptible at 15°C than at 28°C with the EC and WP formulations respectively, while females of the R strain were 5.2× and 23.6× less susceptible at 15°C with these formulations.  相似文献

The genetic structure of populations of the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae was investigated along a south–north European transect spanning from southern France to The Netherlands. Mites were collected on Urtica dioica in 6 sampling zones. Microsatellite variation at 5 loci revealed considerable genetic variation with an average heterozygozity of 0.49. Significant heterozygote deficiency was found in 7 populations out of the 18 samples analyzed and one of them was completely monomorphic. Tetranychus urticae populations show some level of genetic structuring. First, genetic differentiation between localities (F ST estimates) was significant for all comparisons. Second, the analysis of molecular variance, AMOVA, indicates that there is an effect, albeit low (9%), of the locality in accounting for allele frequency variance. Geographic distance emerges as a factor responsible for this genetic structure. The results are discussed in relation to the biological features of the species and the known patterns of migration. Related agronomical issues are addressed.  相似文献

The growing demand of human populations for food supplies has led to an increase in the use of synthetic products, mainly pesticides, which induce adverse effects not only to target organisms, but also to non-target biota of agroecosystems. Aquatic ecosystems in the proximity of agricultural areas are particularly vulnerable to pesticides, which cause underperformance or extinction of non-target sensitive species. Once in the aquatic system, these chemicals can affect biological processes at multiple levels (molecular, individual, populational), causing ecosystem imbalance across multiple scales. In this study, the effect of a commercial formulation of a herbicide (Primextra® Gold TZ) and its main active ingredient (a.i., S-metolachlor) was studied on a freshwater cladoceran species (Daphnia longispina), at different levels of biological organization and temporal scales. S-metolachlor is used in many herbicide formulations applied in corn/maize cultures, which is a relevant culture worldwide. As a first step, the acute and chronic effects of both commercial formulation and a.i. were quantified, and both formulations negatively affected the cladoceran's survival and reproductive parameters (age at first reproduction, number of offspring and number of broods), as well as the population's rate of increase. Whilst acute effects were comparable, the commercial formulation was slightly more toxic (EC50 was two-times lower) than the a.i. in chronic exposures, being prejudicial to D. longispina populations above 4.0 mg/L of S-metolachlor. In a second experimental step, we focused on the potential multi-generational impacts of the exposure to the a.i. alone on biochemical (lipid biomarkers, namely fatty acids) and populational responses, because of the relevance of S-metolachlor as a biosynthesis inhibitor in many herbicidal formulations. The herbicide caused a significant decrease in Daphnia fecundity (in the size of the 1st clutch), but no concomitant alterations were found in fatty acid profiles of mothers or offspring. More important, this experiment showed that S-metolachlor did not cause effects in the subsequent generation, thus suggesting that biotic communities may recover after exposure to the xenobiotic.  相似文献

Functional responses of deutonymphs of the predatory mite,Allothrombium pulvinum Ewing, on eggs and adult females of two-spotted spider mite,Tetranychus urticae Koch, were determined in the laboratory. Predation experiments were conducted on lima bean leaf discs over a 24-h period at 25±2°C, 30–50% RH and 24L: 0D photoperiod. Prey densities ranged from 10 to 120T. urticae eggs per disc or 2 to 32 adult females per disc.Allothrombium pulvinum deutonymphs were more effective againstT. urticae eggs than its adult females. The role ofA. pulvinum deutonymphs in integrated and biological pest control is discussed.  相似文献

The commercially available strains of Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot, the biological control agent of Tetranychus urticae Koch, perform poorly in the Western Mediterranean, probably because they are not well adapted to local climatic conditions. For that reason, efforts are being focused on the development of a biological control programme using native phytoseiid mites. Four species of red spider mites can be found in vegetable crops in eastern Spain: T. urticae, Tetranychus turkestani Ugarov and Nikolski, Tetranychus ludeni Zacher and the recently introduced Tetranychus evansi Baker and Pritchard. To evaluate their potential role as biological control agents, the present study evaluates the life-history of local populations of Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) and P. persimilis when fed on T. urticae, T. turkestani, T. evansi, and T. ludeni in the laboratory. Results indicate that N. californicus and P. persimilis are able to feed and complete their development on the four tested red spider mite species. The predators may exhibit a particularly high capacity for population increase when fed on T. urticae, T. turkestani, and T. ludeni, thus may be able to provide effective control of these species in the field. When fed T. evansi, however, predator performance was poor; significant increase in development and preoviposition times, and a reduction in oviposition period and fecundity were recorded. The resultant low capacity for population growth suggests poor ability of the two tested predators to suppress T. evansi populations on commercial crops. It is unlikely therefore that P. persimilis and N. californicus, now being widely used to control T. urticae in greenhouse crops in Central Europe, will be able to halt any spread of T. evansi to greenhouse crops in temperate areas.  相似文献

The suggestion that adding a light oil to avermectin B1 would increase the toxicity of avermectin to spider mites and reduce its effect on predaceous mites was tested in laboratory trials withTetranychus urticae Koch andMetaseiulus occidentalis (Nesbitt) on almond and bean foliage. No differences were found in the toxicity of avermectin + oil vs. avermectin alone at the doses tested forT. urticae; all (0.025, 0.5, 1, and 5 ppm) were highly toxic. Mortality ofM. occidentalis females and larvae was not different on avermectin + oil vs. avermectin alone, but females produced more progeny on the avermectin + oil-treated foliage. At doses of 0.5 to 5 ppm, avermectin was sufficiently toxic to deplete predator populations in the field. Development of predator larvae on avermectin + oil and on avermectin alone was not different. Avermectin + oil on almond foliage aged outdoors was highly toxic after 96 h toT. urticae adults butM. occidentalis larvae survived well on residues by 96 h.M. occidentalis female survival and productivity were not different from the controls by 48 h. Hence a predator mite population might recover through larvae hatching onto residues. Avermectin + oil (3 ppm) residue on bean foliage held outdoors was still highly toxic toT. urticae after 33 days. In contrast,M. occidentalis females and larvae survived well on 48-to 96-hour-old residues. Neither predators nor spider mites placed on treated foliage (3 ppm) were able to reach untreated foliage in tests using bean plant seedlings with one leaf sprayed and one left unsprayed. Furthermore, whenM. occidentalis females were exposed to 3 ppm avermectin for 300 s or longer, mortality was significant and the fecundity of females that had been exposed for as few as 30 s was reduced significantly. Thus, while avermectin is significantly more toxic toT. urticae than toM. occidentalis, its value as a selective acaricide will depend upon learning to use it at rates that will allow the retention of sufficient prey so that surviving predators can persist. Based on these laboratory tests, such selective doses are likely to lie below 1 ppm and can best be determined in field trials.  相似文献
