A nanoscale surface plasmon all-optical diode is proposed based on a plasmonic slot waveguide having an asymmetric plasmonic grating in the center. The asymmetric configuration of the plasmonic grating and the unique dispersion relations of the plasmonic slot waveguide ensure the nonreciprocal transmission properties. High transmittance contrast ratio of 1,150 is achieved theoretically. The performance of the surface plasmon all-optical diode does not have any high power requirement. This may open a new way for the study of integrated photonic devices based on surface plasmons.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is an emerging analytical method used in biological and non-biological structure characterization. Since the nanostructure plasmonic properties is a significant factor for SERS performance, nanostructure fabrication with tunable plasmonic properties are crucial in SERS studies. In this study, a novel method for fabrication of tunable plasmonic silver nanodomes (AgNDs) is presented. The convective-assembly method is preferred for the deposition of latex particles uniformly on a regular glass slide and used as a template for polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to prepare nanovoids on a PDMS surface. The obtained nanovoids on the PDMS are used as a mold for AgNDs fabrication. The nanovoids are filled with Ag deposition by the electrochemical method to obtain metallic AgNDs. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) are used for characterization of the structural properties of all fabricated AgNDs. The optical properties of AgNDs are characterized with the evaluation of SERS activity of 4-aminothiphonel and rhodamine 6G. In addition to experimental characterizations, the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is used for the theoretical plasmonic properties calculation of the AgNDs. The experimental and theoretical results show that the SERS performance of AgNDs is strongly dependent on the heights and diameters of the AgNDs.  相似文献

Optical properties of multi-ring with spatial symmetry breaking are investigated theoretically. Tunable ultrahigh order surface plasmonic resonance is achieved, which is found to be sensitive to geometric parameters. Certain high-order surface plasmonic resonances can be either suppressed or enhanced when geometrical parameters are adjusted. Moreover, more than one quadrupolar-dipolar, octupolar-dipolar, and hexadecapolar-dipolar mode of the surface plasmonic resonance can be achieved. The asymmetry also allows the generation of strong electric field enhancement with these nanostructures that can be applied in the field of surface-enhanced spectroscopy and biosensing.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the focusing properties of a plasmonic lens with multiple-turn spiral nano-structures, and analyze its field enhancement effect based on the phase matching theory and finite-difference time-domain simulation. The simulation result demonstrates that a left-hand spiral plasmonic lens can concentrate an incident right-hand circular polarization light into a focal spot with a high focal depth. The intensity of the focal spot could be controlled by altering the number of turns, the radius and the width of the spiral slot. And the focal spot is smaller and has a higher intensity compared to the incident linearly polarized light. This design can also eliminate the requirement of centering the incident beam to the plasmonic lens, making it possible to be used in plasmonic lens array, optical data storage, detection, and other applications.  相似文献

We consider a model utilizing the concept of impedance matching, which can be applied to design the coupled cascaded plasmonic cavity waveguide with desired properties. We use a transfer matrix method to obtain its transmission and dispersion diagrams. Base on this method, we demonstrate that a band-pass metal–dielectric–metal plasmonic filter with quasi-flat group velocity and tunable bandwidth can be achieved.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the nanoscale-focusing effect in the far field for a spiral plasmonic lens with a concentric annular groove by using finite-difference time domain simulation. The simulation result demonstrates that a left-hand spiral plasmonic lens can concentrate an incident right-hand circular polarization light into a focal spot at the exit surface. And this spot can be focused into far field due to constructive interference of the scattered light by the annular groove. The focal length and the focal depth can be adjusted by changing the groove radius and number of grooves within a certain range. These properties make it possible to probe the signal of spiral plasmonic lens in far field by using conventional optical devices.  相似文献

In this paper, we discussed the influence of a plasmonic lens with V-shaped metallic subwavelength slits and variant periods on transmission properties. In order to analyze the influence, a finite-difference time-domain numerical algorithm was adopted for computational numerical simulation of the plasmonic structures. The structures are flanked with the penetrated slits through a metal (Ag) film which is coated on a quartz substrate. Our simulation results demonstrated that different cone angles originated from the V-shaped slits generate different influences on the beam propagation. The width variation affects the intensity significantly. The cone angles formed by the V-shaped slits can change the focusing performance. These results are very encouraging for future study of the plasmonic lens-based applications.  相似文献

This paper proposes a method for diagnosing intracellular conditions and organelles of cells with localized surface plasmonic resonance (LSPR) by directly internalizing the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into the cells and measuring their plasmonic properties through hyperspectral imaging. This technique will be useful for direct diagnosis of cellular organelles, which have potential for cellular biology, proteomics, pharmaceuticals, drug discovery etc. Furthermore, localization and characterization of citrate-capped gold nanoparticles in HeLa cells were studied, by hyperspectral microscopy and other imaging techniques. Here, we present the method of internalizing the gold nanoparticles into the cells and subcellular organelles to facilitate subcellular plasmonic measurements. An advanced label-free visualization technique, namely hyperspectral microscopy providing images and spectral data simultaneously, was used to confirm the internalization of gold nanoparticles and to reveal their optical properties for possible intracellular plasmonic detection. Hyperspectral technology has proved to be effective in the analysis of the spectral profile of gold nanoparticles, internalized under different conditions. Using this relatively novel technique, it is possible to study the plasmonic properties of particles, localized in different parts of the cell. The position of the plasmon bands reflects the interactions of gold nanoparticles with different subcellular systems, including particle-nucleus interactions. Our results revealed the effect of the different intracellular interactions on the aggregation pattern of gold nanoparticles, inside the cells. This novel technique opens the door to intracellular plasmonics, an entirely new field, with important potential applications in life sciences. Similarly, the characterization of AuNP inside the cell was validated using traditional methods such as light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Under the conditions studied in this work, gold nanoparticles were found to be non-toxic to HeLa (cervical cancer) cells.  相似文献

Optical transmission properties of periodic X-shaped plasmonic nanohole arrays in a silver film are investigated by performing the finite element method. Obvious peaks appear in the transmission spectra due to surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on the top surface of the silver film, to the Fabry–Ferot resonance effect of SPPs in the nanohole, and to the localized surface plasmon resonance of the nanohole. Besides the topologic shape parameters of the X-shaped nanohole, transmission properties strongly depend on incident polarization. The results of this study not only present a tunable plasmonic filter, but also aid in the understanding of the mechanisms of the extraordinary optical transmission phenomenon.  相似文献

The plasmonic effect is introduced in solar thermal areas to enhance light harvest and absorption. The optical properties of plasmonic nanofluid are simulated by finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. Due to the excitation of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, an intensive absorption peak is observed at 0.5 μm. The absorption characteristics are sensitive to particle size and concentration. As the particle size increases, the absorption peak is broadened and shifted to longer wavelength. The absorption of SiO2/Ag plasmonic nanofluid is improved gradually as the volume concentration increases, especially in the UV region. The absorption edge is shifted from 0.6 to 1.0 μm as the volume concentration increases from 0.001 to 0.01. The thermal simulation of suspended SiO2/Ag nanoparticle shows a uniform temperature rise of 17.91 K under solar irradiation (AM 1.5), while under the same condition, the temperature rises in Ag nanoparticle and Al nanoparticle are 11.12 and 5.39 K, respectively. The core/shell plasmonic nanofluid exhibits a higher photothermal performance, which has a potential application in photothermal areas. A higher temperature rise can be obtained by improving the incident light intensity or optical absorption properties of nanoparticles.  相似文献

Plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) like silver (Ag) strongly absorb the incident light and produce enhanced localized electric field at the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) frequency. Enormous theoretical and experimental research has focused on the plasmonic properties of the metallic nanoparticles with sizes greater than 10 nm. However, such studies on smaller sized NPs in the size range of 3 to 10 nm (quantum-sized regime) are sparse. In this size regime, the conduction band of the metal particles discretizes, thus altering plasmon properties of the NPs from classical to the quantum regime. In this study, plasmonic properties of the spherical Ag NPs in size range of 3 to 20 nm were investigated using both quantum and classical modeling to understand the importance of invoking quantum regime to accurately describing their properties in this size regime. Theoretical calculations using standard Mie theory were carried out to monitor the LSPR peak shift and electric field enhancement as a function of the size of the bare plasmonic nanoparticle and the refractive index (RI) of the surrounding medium. Comparisons were made with and without invoking quantum regime. Also, the optical properties of metallic NPs conjugated with a chemical ligand using multi-layered Mie theory were studied, and interesting trends were observed.

In this paper, we proposed plasmonic dimers consisted of two evanescent field coupled graphene monolayer nanodisks. The electromagnetic properties including the split modes with non-degenerate wavelengths, enhancement of the quality factors (Q factors) and mode areas, and the coupling between the fundamental and the first-order whispering-gallery modes are numerically predicted and analyzed systematically. Compared with the single graphene nanodisk, the Q factor of TM4,1 reaches 356 in a dimer with a radius of 5 nm of each nanodisk and an inter-disk gap of 0.4 nm, where the corresponding mode area is as small as 6.88?×?10‐?5(λ 0)2. In addition, the enhanced performances of size-mismatched coupled graphene plasmonic dimers are investigated. This graphene monolayer plasmonic dimer could be one of the fundamental components in the future ultra-high density plasmonic circuit technique, on-chip plasmonic interconnect, and transformation plasmonics. It also could be used as the test-beds for added explorations of cavity quantum electrodynamic experiments.  相似文献

A long-range surface plasmon polariton variable optical attenuator based on available nematic liquid crystals and polymers is proposed and theoretically investigated. It is demonstrated that the electro-optic control of the nematic molecular orientation is capable of tuning the level of index asymmetry of an Au stripe waveguide and the key properties of the fundamental long-range plasmonic mode, such as modal profile and propagation losses. By proper structural design and material selection, plasmonic in-line intensity modulators are designed, which exhibit very low power consumption, extinction ratios in excess of 30 dB, and insertion losses as low as 1 dB for a device length in the millimeter range. Such active plasmonic elements are envisaged to be used in interchip photonics bus interconnects.  相似文献

Photonic devices can be developed, and their working principle can be understood only by considering the phenomena taking place at the nanoscale level. Optical properties of plasmonic structures depend on their geometric parameters and are sensitive to them. Recently, many advanced methods for the preparation of nanostructures have been proposed; however still, the geometric parameters are inaccurate. Numerical simulations provide a powerful tool for the analysis of plasmonic nanostructures. To the best of our knowledge, there are not many papers on near-field and far-field properties of single nanoprism and nanoprism dimer, the so-called bowtie, with rounded edges. For this purpose, Finite Integration Technique implemented to the CST Microwave Studio was used. Besides the edge rounding, an additional modification of the resonance modes was investigated, achieved by placement of a spherical nanoparticle in the gap between the prisms. Results of numerical simulations indicate that the radius of the curvature edges strongly affects the plasmon peak localization, and this effect cannot be neglected in plasmonic device design. Increase in the radius of edge curvature causes main extinction cross-section peak blueshift in all cases analyzed. Moreover, our calculations imply that the nanoparticle in the gap between prisms strongly influences the dependence of spectral properties on the radius curvature.  相似文献

In transparent conducting oxide films, tuning of plasmonic resonance is directly controlled by free electron concentration and thus by activated dopants. In this study, large area AlxInyZn1-x-yO thin films at various concentrations were prepared by spray coating using water as a solvent. The effect of Al/In dopant ratio on the structural, electrical, optical, and plasmonic properties was investigated. Tuning of optical response to a well-defined plasmon resonance is correlated to the above properties of AlxInyZn1-x-yO films. Theoretical fitting based on the Drude-Lorentz (D-L) theory was utilized for extracting the dielectric spectra and cross-over wavelength (ωc). The studies revealed plasmonic properties in NIR for the films with Al/In ratios of A5I5, A2.5I7.5, and A0I10, indicating In as the most activated dopant. Surface plasmon mode simulated using the extracted permittivity values showed the influence of mobility of these films on the broadening of the dip. The minimum plasmonic loss suggests the suitability as an alternative plasmonic material in the near infrared.
