通过对柴河林业局头道林场一块8年生的落叶松人工林优势种群的当年生的生长节律与生物量的研究发现:优势林分的当年生枝及顶枝的生长较常规林分高峰期多、高峰期持续时间长和生长量大的优点和不同;生物量的分配的研究结果也说明优势林分的树干生物量积累的比重较常规林分高,证明了该罕见优势林分速生原因的内质性,是一个难得的优良种源。  相似文献

Microbial growth on mixtures of substrates is of considerable engineering and biological interest. Most of the work until now has dealt with microbial growth on binary mixtures of sugars or polyols. In these cases, it is often found that no matter how the inoculum is precultured, only one of the two substrates is consumed in the first growth phase, leading to the diauxic growth pattern. The goal of the experiments reported here is to investigate growth on mixtures containing at least one organic acid. These experiments show that the substrate utilization patterns in such mixtures are qualitatively different from the diauxic growth pattern. For instance, during growth of Escherichia coli K12 on certain binary mixtures of organic acids, the two substrates are utilized simultaneously, and the mixed-substrate maximum specific growth rate exceeds the single-substrate maximum specific growth rate on either one of the two constituent substrates. Furthermore, the very same mixed-substrate maximum specific growth and substrate uptake rates are observed no matter how the inoculum is precultured. On the other hand, in a mixture of glucose and pyruvate, the maximum specific growth rate seems to depend on the preculturing conditions, thus suggesting the existence of multiple physiological quasi-steady states. Growth and differentiation of the imperfect fungus Geotrichum candidum were followed in submerged cultures containing a simple synthetic glucose salt medium. Uptake of glucose, ammonium and oxygen from the medium were measured during the entire growth perod. In 0.1% glucose the fungus grows with one exponential growth phase until all the glucose has been consumed. The arthrospores are formed in the stationary phase. In 0.5% glucose the growth curve has two exponential growth phases, one with a doubling time of 1.8 h and a second one with a doubling time of 4.9 h. The second exponential growth phase, which starts when less than 15% of the glucose and less than 30% of the ammonium have been consumed, is shown to be the sporulation phase. During this growth phase the oxygen saturation in the culture remained constant at about 50%.  相似文献

Scientific formalizations of the notion of growth and measurement of the rate of growth in living organisms are age-old problems. The most frequently used metric, “Average Relative Growth Rate” is invariant under the choice of the underlying growth model. Theoretically, the estimated rate parameter and relative growth rate remain constant for all mutually exclusive and exhaustive time intervals if the underlying law is exponential but not for other common growth laws (e.g., logistic, Gompertz, power, general logistic). We propose a new growth metric specific to a particular growth law and show that it is capable of identifying the underlying growth model. The metric remains constant over different time intervals if the underlying law is true, while the extent of its variation reflects the departure of the assumed model from the true one. We propose a new estimator of the relative growth rate, which is more sensitive to the true underlying model than the existing one. The advantage of using this is that it can detect crucial intervals where the growth process is erratic and unusual. It may help experimental scientists to study more closely the effect of the parameters responsible for the growth of the organism/population under study.  相似文献

Summary An analysis has been made of the normal growth of the thoracic appendages in the pistol-crab,Alpheus dentipes. The chelae are the only asymmetrical appendages and, within an extensive size range, the growth-coefficient of the large chela (crusher) is smaller than that of the small chela (nipper), even in the most rapidly growing dimensions of the segment containing the growth-centre.The partition coefficient for growth in certain dimensions of the chelae is not constant but is reduced progressively during the growthperiod, due (it is suggested) to the impracticability of maintaining the intensive heterogony developed during the early stages of growth.Regenerative growth of the chelae has been studied quantitatively after autotomy of one, the other, or both normal chelae, effected once only or repeatedly as new chelae appeared at moulting. New chelae are regenerated repeatedly with little or no waning of growth intensity but in continuously growing chelae, growth intensity is substantially reduced at the end of the instar of autotomy. The amount of growth is not correlated with thenumber of days available for regeneration. When both chelae regenerate simultaneously the larger one grows relatively slower than the smaller one to the end of the instar of autotomy but afterwards this condition is reversed. When the nipper alone is autotomised, growth of the crusher is inhibited and shrinkage may occur. Crusher autotomy, on the other hand, stimulates nipper growth and to an extent which varies with the dimension.The problem of chela reversal has been discussed and certain suggestions have been preferred.  相似文献

The body height growth (of masculine beings) was modelled in a phenomenologic-mathematical manner by partitioning the time course of measured growth curve in parts every of which corresponds to a separated growth period. This partitioning was reached in a natural way so that a superposition of the single spurts yields the whole measured course. Every growth batch will be described in its time course by one term of inverse tangent function. The biological meaning and an explanation of the succession of the growth spurt as an effect of control circuits need further exploratory work. For detailed statements on acceleration phenomena concerning the body height growth this analysis gives possibilities for comparing the single growth spurts of the mean growth process of two populations in question. For measured values given by BROCK (1954) and SALZLER (1967) there are five growth periods in the time intervall reaching from time of conception until the end of the first year. Comparing the mathematical functions of the corresponding growth spurts for these two groups one can conclude that the second spurt (fetal spurt) is responsible for an increase of birth body height and the fourth for an increase of body height in the suckling age of the latter group against the former one.  相似文献

Sodium inhibited citrate uptake by two of the four strains of Aerobacter (Enterobacter) aerogenes used in these studies, had no effect on one strain, and stimulated citrate uptake by one strain. Two of the four strains grew well anaerobically on citrate in the presence of Na(+), one grew poorly, and one grew not at all either in the presence or absence of Na(+). Na(+) stimulated the aerobic growth of one strain on citrate, increased the total growth but not the rate of growth of one strain, and prolonged the lag phase but not the rate of growth or total growth of two strains. The experimental data reported herein, therefore, indicate that there are appreciable physiological differences among strains of A. aerogenes.  相似文献

A Monte-Carlo simulation technique is introduced to study the spatial considerations of cellular distribution that affect the overall asynchronous process of population growth. The stochastic nature of cellular characteristics such as mitotic time, loss rate and direction of growth is considered. The fluctuation of these values from one generation to the next and from one cell to the other, is illustrated. Cells are assumed to grow in a two-dimensional honeycomb-like network such that a central cell is always surrounded with six equally distant sites. The modes of cellular growth are controlled mainly and simply by the existence of a definite number of neighbouring vacancies. An IBM-compatible PC-AT computer was used and a program written in Pascal is employed to simulate and follow up the growth of a single stem cell in a 40,000-sites network. The results of the proposed stochastic model illustrate the importance of the spatial interaction among growing cellular modes such that vacancies act as local sensors for a negative feedback mechanism regulating the overall growth pattern. The role of the resting mode (G0) in stabilising the overall growth pattern is discussed.  相似文献

Duplication-containing cells are selected when growth of Salmonella typhimurium is limited by the availability of any one of several carbon and energy sources. Under conditions of extreme starvation, growth occurs almost exclusively in the duplication-containing fraction of the population. Cells with duplications of one large segment of the chromosome are repeatedly selected regardless of which of these carbon sources limits growth. The duplicated chromosomal segment encodes the transport systems for all of these carbon sources. This duplication is not selected during growth on a carbon source for which the permease is not included within the duplication segment. This suggests that the growth advantage conferred by the duplication may be due to increased transport of the limiting carbon source. Inclusion of the permease alone is not sufficient to explain the growth advantage of the duplications, since other common duplications that include the permease are not selected.  相似文献

A scheme of evolution of hydrozoan colony pattern is proposed based upon the consideration of macro-morphogenesis. Four main processes play decisive roles(1) hard skeleton formation by soft tissues, (2) changes in duration of the growth phase relative to the transition to differentiation in interdependent zones of growth, (3) ratio in growth rates between adjacent zones of growth within the rudiment, the shoot, or the whole colony, and (4) spatial relationships among growth zones. The main tendency in morphological evolution of the hydroids is an increasing integration of the colony as revealed by increasing complexity of its structure. That is from a temporary colony towards the permanent one with highly organised shoots, as hydranths and branches are localised in a strictly arranged manner. An analysis of diverse data allows one to state that the main morphogenetic mechanism of increasing complexity in the hydroid colony is convergence, then fusion, of adjacent growth zones, a variant of heterochrony.  相似文献

Anaerobic photoautotrophic growth of the cyanobacterium Oscillatoria limnetica was demonstrated under nitrogen in the presence of 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (5micron), a constant concentration of Na2S (2.5 mM), and constant pH (7.3). The photoanaerobic growth rate (2 days doubling time) was similar to that obtained under oxygenic photoautotrophic growth conditions. The potential of oxygenic photosynthesis is constitutive in the cells; that of anoxygenic photosynthesis is rapidly (2 h) induced in the presence of Na2S in the light in a process requiring protein synthesis. The facultative anaerobic phototrophic growth physiology exhibited by O. limnetica would seem to represent an intermediate physiological pattern between the obligate anaerobic one of photosynthetic bacteria and the oxygenic one of eucaryotic algae.  相似文献

Growth promoting activity for rat hepatocytes in bovine spleen was identified as three heparin-binding growth factors. All the features tested, such as heparin affinity, molecular mass, cross reactivity with antibody, and partial amino acid sequence, indicated that one of the three factors was identical to FGF-1 (fibroblast growth factor-1, acidic FGF), another one was related to FGF-2 (fibroblast growth factor-2, basic FGF), whereas it was more potent for hepatocytes than the FGF-2 purified from bovine brain. The third one was eluted from heparin-Sepharose column at 0.75M NaCl, of which activity was not abolished by anti-FGF-1 or FGF-2 antibodies. In addition, the mitogenic effect of this factor was synergistic with that of HGF (hepatocyte growth factor), a known potent hepatocyte mitogen, suggesting that it is a novel growth factor for hepatocytes.  相似文献

The pattern of BamHI fragments of DNA from three children suggested to suffer the isolated growth hormone deficiency type. IA was not different from normal pattern registered in blot hybridization with [32P]cDNA of the growth hormone gene. The data permits one to exclude the above mentioned disease that is characterized by the deletion of HGH-N gene. The analogous DNA restriction analysis using HindIII restriction endonuclease has shown, that neither the sick children, nor their parents carry the deletion in heterozygotic state. The study of normal polymorphism of the restriction fragments length has shown that as for as the frequency of polymorphic MspI restriction endonuclease sites A and B in the growth hormone gene cluster (0.67 and 0.75 respectively) is concerned the Russian population in Moscow is closer to Mediterranean one than to North-european.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to study the effects of different individual behaviours on the overall growth of a spatially distributed population. The population can grow on two spatial patches, a source and a sink, that are connected by migrations. Two time scales are involved in the dynamics, a fast one corresponding to migrations and a slow one associated with the local growth on each patch. Different scenarios of density-dependent migration are proposed and their effects on the population growth are investigated. A general discussion on the use of aggregation methods for the study of integration of different ecological levels is proposed.  相似文献

Lactoferrin (Lf) is a multifunctional glycoprotein. Due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties and the resulting therapeutical potential, lactoferrin is at present focus of a variety of research areas. The regulation of cell growth represents one of the prominent performances of lactoferrin. In this study we found lactoferrin to inhibit proliferation of the human epithelial cancer cell line HeLa. The extent of this growth inhibition was comparable to the one induced by the transforming-growth-factor-beta-1 (TGFβ1). In contrast to other cell lines where lactoferrin stimulates growth, lactoferrin failed to activate the MAP kinases ERK1/2 or p38 in HeLa cells. However, by immunocytochemistry and cell fractionation experiments, we found that lactoferrin is capable of activating the TGFβ/Smad-2 pathway. The nuclear accumulation of Smad-2 induced by Lf was comparable in magnitude to the one induced by TGFβ1.  相似文献

The climatic impact on tree radial growth resulting from an atmospheric CO2 doubling was studied for 24 populations of five tree species in the French Alps and the French Mediterranean area. The Arpege AGCM, which predicts a 3 degrees C increase in mean temperature and a light increase of precipitation, is used to estimate the climatic perturbation. The method is based on the integration of estimated climate in an empirical tree-ring to climate model, involving artificial neural networks. Only a few populations are sensitive to the climatic change; all are located on the boundaries of their ecological area and can be divided in two groups. The first one is composed of high altitude populations which show a growth increase induced by the warmer climate during the growing season. The second one, composed of a single Mediterranean Scots pine population, reacts with a severe growth reduction induced by the stronger water stress in summer.  相似文献

本文报道了6~18岁1993名达斡尔族学生8项体质指标(身高、坐高、体重、肩宽、骨盆宽、胸围、腰围和臀围)的测量结果,并计算了10项体质指数。结果发现,达斡尔族在我国属体质发育较高的民族,并表现为一定的城乡差异;20多年来达斡尔族学生身高、体重、胸围全面增长,男女生身高最大增长年龄均提前约1岁左右,男生高年龄组身高和身体充实度增幅较大,但女生变化不大且肩宽和骨盆宽呈下降趋势。提示达斡尔族青少年体质发育表现为以生长突增提前为主的生长长期趋势,但女生高年龄组身高增长不明显、身体充实度有待提高,应采取营养和锻炼等措施促进其生长发育水平全面提高。  相似文献

We investigated peculiarities of growth of aerial roots in a hemiepiphyte Monstera deliciosa. Aerial roots show low absolute and relative rates of growth and have an extensive elongation zone. In contrast to common roots, cell elongation in the elongation zone of aerial roots may last for 30 days and sometimes longer. The length of cortex cells increases in direct proportion to the distance from the root tip. This means that there is no drastic change in the relative rate of growth associated with transition to elongation characteristic of common roots. Distribution of growth over the elongation zone of aerial roots is irregular. Within the elongation zone, the cells of rhizodermis can divide, and divisions are distributed nonuniformly. The contact between neighboring growing polycytes (cell complexes) is presumably associated with their sliding against one another (intrusive growth). By the example of aerial roots of Monstera deliciosa, we showed a particular type of growth organization in the root with an extensive elongation zone differing from the growth of common roots and resembling the growth of leaves, stems, and fleshy fruit of dicotyledons.  相似文献

A logistic regression model is proposed which enables one to model the boundary between growth and no growth for bacterial strains in the presence of one or more growth controlling factors such as temperature, pH and additives such as salt and sodium nitrite. The form of the expression containing the growth limiting factors may be suggested by a kinetic model, while the response at a given combination of factors may either be presence/absence (i.e. growth/no growth) or probabilistic (i.e. r successes in n trials). The approach described represents an integration of the probability and kinetic aspects of predictive microbiology, and a unification of predictive microbiology and the hurdle concept. The model is illustrated using data for Shigella flexneri.  相似文献
