It has been shown that the treatment of pectins under conditions close to those in an artificial gastroenteral medium results in the destruction of their carbohydrate chain. The degree of pectin destruction depends on the structural features of their macromolecules. During successive acid and enzymatic hydrolysis of pectins, an increase in the number of molecules with molecular masses of 300–400 and 100–300 kDa and cleavage of mono- and oligosaccharides occurred. It was found that comaruman, bergenan, potamogetonan, pectins from marsh cinquefoil, Siberian tea, and broad-leaved pondweed possess a high antioxidant activity and contain large amounts of common phenols. Treatment with hydrochloric acid and pectinase led to a significant decrease in their antioxidant activity and simultaneously to a decrease in the amount of common phenols.  相似文献

The inhibition of the adhesion of neutrophils to fibronectin by the fragments of the main galacturonan chain of the following pectins was demonstrated: comaruman from the marsh cinquefoil Comarum polustre, bergenan from the Siberian tea Bergenia crassifolia, lemnan from the duckweed Lemna minor, zosteran from the seagrass Zostera marina, and citrus pectin. The parent pectins, except for comaruman, did not affect the cell adhesion. Galacturonans prepared from the starting pectins by acidic hydrolysis were shown to reduce the neutrophil adhesion stimulated by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (1.625 microM) and dithiothreitol (0.5 mM) at a concentration of 50-200 microg/ml. The presence of carbohydrate chains with molecular masses higher than 300, from 100 to 300, and from 50 to 100 kDa in the galacturonan fractions was proved by membrane ultrafiltration.  相似文献

Functional redundancy in bacterial communities is expected to allow microbial assemblages to survive perturbation by allowing continuity in function despite compositional changes in communities. Recent evidence suggests, however, that microbial communities change both composition and function as a result of disturbance. We present evidence for a third response: resistance. We examined microbial community response to perturbation caused by nutrient enrichment in salt marsh sediments using deep pyrosequencing of 16S rRNA and functional gene microarrays targeting the nirS gene. Composition of the microbial community, as demonstrated by both genes, was unaffected by significant variations in external nutrient supply in our sampling locations, despite demonstrable and diverse nutrient-induced changes in many aspects of marsh ecology. The lack of response to external forcing demonstrates a remarkable uncoupling between microbial composition and ecosystem-level biogeochemical processes and suggests that sediment microbial communities are able to resist some forms of perturbation.  相似文献

Galacturonan, the main constituent of the backbone (core) of the comaruman macromolecule, a pectin from the marsh cinquefoil Comarum palustre L., was obtained on partial acid hydrolysis of the pectin. Using atomic force microscopy and methylation analysis of the galacturonan, the backbone of the comaruman macromolecule was shown to contain branches as side chains consisting of α-1,4-linked residues of D-galactopyranosyl uronic acid attached to the 2-and 3-positions of the galacturonic acid residues of the core, in addition to linear regions of α-1,4-D-galacturonan. Many studies concerning wetland loss have been conducted in the last two decades. However, tidal freshwater marsh’s research topics, mirroring hot points, vary in scientific community and change over time. A bibliometrical analysis method is demonstrated in this paper to describe tidal freshwater marsh research and changes in the research over time. For example, habitat restoration, soil composition, plantation pattern and coastal wetland have drawn increasing attention since 2005. The bibliographic methods described in this paper involved the use of 54 case studies to find critical paths regarding how tidal freshwater wetland loss has been induced by different causes. From case studies, it has been concluded that urbanization is the most important cause of tidal freshwater marsh loss. Critical paths of tidal freshwater marsh loss driving forces have been also demonstrated in this paper.  相似文献

Abstract. This study focuses on the relationship between vegetation succession and soil seed bank composition on the Schiermonnikoog (The Netherlands) salt marsh over 100 yr. The importance of driftline material in seed dispersal and the relationship with succession is also investigated. The results indicate that the majority of species have a transient or short‐term seed persistent bank. Seeds of most species are able to float over the salt marsh and become concentrated in the driftline higher up the marsh. After plants have established a seed bank forms, which disappears when vegetation is replaced by later‐successional species. Exceptions are Spergularia mar‐itima, which is still present in the seed bank of late successional stages, and Juncus gerardi and Glaux maritima, which appear in the seed bank of early successional stages, but are absent in the vegetation. Based on the results of this study constraints and possibilities for salt‐marsh restoration by de‐embankment are discussed.  相似文献

2015年7月至2016年6月每月在长江口东滩湿地西南水域的光滩、盐沼(以海三棱藨草为主)和潮沟3种亚生境进行斑尾刺虾虎鱼的样本采集,分析斑尾刺虾虎鱼的丰度和食性差异.结果表明:6—11月均采集到斑尾刺虾虎鱼样本,以幼鱼为主,其他月份未采集到.其中,7月采集数量最多,为71尾,11月仅采集到3尾.潮沟中共采集到93尾,分别是光滩和盐沼的5.2和4.9倍.6—11月斑尾刺虾虎鱼的平均体长和体质量均呈逐渐增加趋势.斑尾刺虾虎鱼主要摄食虾类、蟹类、昆虫类和多毛类等10大类30小类饵料生物.其中,虾类是最重要的饵料类别,并以安氏白虾等白虾属为主;蟹类以相手蟹属为主;昆虫类以小划蝽等蝽科昆虫成虫为主;鱼类饵料的质量百分比相对较高,但数量比例很低.不同亚生境斑尾刺虾虎鱼的饵料组成差异较大.7—11月斑尾刺虾虎鱼的摄食等级随体长增大而明显增大,秋末(11月)平均摄食等级可达3.不同亚生境间的斑尾刺虾虎鱼丰度差异与其摄食饵料不同有关.  相似文献

Environmental factors governing the distributions of plant root-associated bacteria are poorly understood. Most plant species occurring in salt marsh estuaries are restricted to very specific habitats within the marsh and plant-derived and abiotic environmental features covary. We examined diazotrophic bacteria inhabiting the rhizoplanes of different populations of the black needlerush, Juncus roemerianus , growing in two different habitats, in order to examine the relative influence of plant-derived and abiotic environmental parameters on diazotroph assemblage composition. Juncus roots were collected from a monotypic Juncus patch in the low intertidal marsh, and from the main monotypic Juncus stand in the high marsh. A total of 235 bacterial pure cultures were isolated from the roots using combined nitrogen-free media. Physiologically similar strains were grouped, producing 58 different groups. Strains representing 49 of these groups tested positive for nifH , and substrate utilization profiles of these strains were compared quantitatively. Three major substrate utilization clusters were identified and all contained both Juncus patch and main stand isolates. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis of nifH amplicons recovered from roots and from vegetated sediments taken from the main stand and from two patches was also performed. Juncus root nifH amplicon profiles from all three sampling sites were very similar. Profiles of amplicons from vegetated sediments were also similar across sites, but less similar than the root profiles. Results from two independent methodological approaches indicated a strong impact of the plant host relative to that of the abiotic environment on the composition of the root-associated diazotroph assemblage.  相似文献

Natural variability in the species composition of salt marsh plant assemblage was studied for 4 years (1986–90) at Bolinas Lagoon, California (USA). The study was conducted during a period in which little or no physical disturbance occurred in the marsh. During the study, Bolinas Lagoon experienced highly variable rainfall, both within and between years. In years with average or below average winter and spring rainfall, the cover of Salicornia virginica increased relative to that of the other species. During the one year with much higher than average spring rainfall, the cover of Salicornia declined and rare species increased in relative abundance. These patterns suggest that under typical marsh conditions, the plant assemblage experiences stress due to low availability of freshwater and high soil salinity. Under such conditions, the stress-tolerant Salicornia dominates the assemblage. If, however, there is abundant rainfall early in the growing season, the other species are released from stress and are able to increase in cover. The marsh of Bolinas Lagoon appears to be resistant to change and able to tolerate stress. Few studies have examined natural variability in species in undisturbed marshes and more of such studies must be made in order to understand whether or not marshes are in general resistant to change caused by rainfall variability.Abbreviations MLLW = mean lower low water  相似文献

Earlier, we detected antiinflammatory action of comaruman, pectin of the marsh cinquefoil Comarum palustre L. This effect can be explained by new data concerning inhibition of adhesion of human neutrophils to fibronectin by comaruman and its fragments. The galacturonan backbone fragment of molecular mass >10 kD appears to be the active region of the comaruman macromolecule. Comaruman CP (50-200 microg/ml) was found to decrease adhesion of neutrophils stimulated by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA, 1.625 microM) and by dithiothreitol (DTT, 0.5 mM). The fragments of comaruman CP-H (100 kD), CP-H1 (10-50 kD), and CP-H2 (100 kD) obtained by acidic hydrolysis and representing regions of linear polygalacturonan are shown to inhibit neutrophil adhesion more than the crude pectin. A fragment CP-E (<10 kD) obtained using pectinolysis and representing a branched region of the comaruman macromolecule failed to influence cell adhesion. The parent comaruman CP as well as fragments of its polygalacturonan backbone diminish PMA-initiated generation of oxygen radicals in neutrophils.  相似文献

Many lowland floodplain habitats have been disconnected from their rivers by flood defence banks. Removing or lowering these banks can reinstate regular flooding and thus restore these important wetland plant communities. In this study we analyse changes in wetland hydrology and plant community composition following the lowering of flood defence banks at a floodplain of the River Don in the United Kingdom (UK). The aim of the restoration project was to improve the quality of “floodplain grazing marsh” habitat, which is a group of wetland communities that are of conservation interest in the UK. We analyse changes in species richness and community composition over a period of 6 years, and compare the presence of indicator species from the target floodplain grazing marsh plant communities. The lowering of the flood banks increased the frequency of flood events, from an estimated average of 1.7 floods per year to 571 floods per year. The increased flooding significantly increased the proportion of time that the wetland was submerged, and the heterogeneity in hydrological conditions within the floodplain. There were significant differences in composition between the pre-restoration and restored plant communities. Plants with traits for moisture tolerance became more abundant, although the communities did not contain significantly more ‘target’ floodplain grazing marsh species at the end of the study period than prior to restoration. Colonisation by floodplain grazing marsh species may have been limited because environmental conditions were not yet suitable, or because of a shortage of colonising propagules. While the desired target plant community has not been achieved after 5 years, it is encouraging that the community has changed dynamically as a result of hydrological changes, and that moisture-tolerant species have increased in occurrence. Over the next few decades, the restored flood regime may cause further environmental change or colonisation events, thus helping increase the occurrence of desired floodplain grazing marsh indicator species.

The dynamics of cytokinin content and the total protein and nonprotein forms of nitrogen in tissues of wintering organs of clary sage Salvia sclarea L. and cinquefoil Potentilla alba L. in abnormally cold (2005–2006 years) and abnormally warm (2006–2007 years) winters in Moscow have been studied. A direct correlation between the content of total cytokinins and the total and protein nitrogen forms in tissues of wintering leaves and buds has been determined. Intertidal restoration through realignment of flood defenses has become an important component of the U.K. coastal and estuarine management strategy. Although experimentation with recent deliberate breaches is in progress, the long‐term prognosis for salt marsh restoration can be investigated at a number of sites around Essex, southeast England where salt marshes have been reactivated (unmanaged restoration) by storm events over past centuries. These historically reactivated marshes possess higher creek densities than their natural marsh counterparts. Both geomorphology and sedimentology determine the hydrology of natural and restored salt marshes. Elevation relative to the tidal frame is known to be the primary determinant of vegetation colonization and succession. Yet vegetation surveys and geotechnical analysis at a natural marsh, where areas with good drainage exist in close proximity to areas of locally hindered drainage at the same elevation, revealed a significant inverse relationship between water saturation in the root zone and the abundance of Atriplex portulacoides, normally the physiognomic dominant on upper salt marsh in the region. Elsewhere in Essex natural and restored marshes are typified by very high sediment water contents, and this is reflected in low abundance of A. portulacoides. After a century of reestablishment no significant difference could be discerned between the vegetation composition of the storm‐reactivated marshes and their natural marsh counterparts. We conclude that vegetation composition may be restored within a century of dike breaching, but this vegetation does not provide a reliable indicator of ecological functions related to creek structure.  相似文献

Like many functional groups or guilds of microorganisms, the group of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) consists of a number of physiologically different species or lineages. These physiological differences suggest niche differentiation among these bacteria depending on the environmental conditions. Species of AOB might be adapted to different zones in the flooding gradient of a tidal marsh. This issue has been studied by sampling sediments from different sites and depths within a tidal freshwater marsh along the river Scheldt near the village of Appels in Belgium. Samples were taken in February, April, July and October 1998. Communities of AOB in the sediment were analysed on the basis of the 16S rRNA gene by application of polymerase chain reaction in combination with denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). In addition, moisture content and concentrations of ammonium and nitrate were determined as well as the potential ammonia-oxidizing activities. Six different DGGE bands belonging to the beta-subclass of the Proteobacteria were observed across the marsh. The community composition of AOB was determined by the elevation in the flooding gradient as well as by the sampling depth. The presence of plants was less important for the community composition of AOB. DGGE bands affiliated with the Nitrosospira lineage were mostly found in the upper part of the marsh and in the deeper layers of the sediment. Two of the three DGGE bands related to the Nitrosomonas oligotropha lineage were more broadly distributed over the marsh, but were predominantly found in the upper layers of the sediment. Members of the environmental Nitrosomonas lineage 5 were predominantly detected in the deeper layers in the lower parts of the marsh. Potential driving factors for niche differentiation are discussed.  相似文献

For 12 years starting from 1991, we performed vegetation surveys every 2–3 years at permanent plots located in an artificial marsh which was constructed in former rice paddies through sod transplantation from a natural marsh. Management of the artificial marsh was conducted to maintain the condition of the donor vegetation by removing unnecessary plants and ensuring a water supply of constant quality and quantity. However, the structure and floristic composition of the donor vegetation were destroyed during sod transplantation, and eutrophic water was supplied before the construction of a well in year 5. The transition of communities identified in the artificial marsh was monitored periodically at 34 fixed plots established three years after transplantation, with a further two plots added in year 7. Seasonal changes in surface water chemistry were also monitored. While the main communities of the artificial marsh resembled that of the donor marsh, two other communities were also identified at arid or muddy sites, where dominant plants had grown from seeds or propagules. After 12 years, we identified three communities (with one community containing two subunits), the dominance of which changed among the plots over the years. The communities developed along two main gradients, dry to wet and secondary succession. The first gradient was characterized by species groups favoring dry conditions, while the second gradient was characterized by species groups favoring disturbed conditions. The original composition recorded for donor marsh plants was not established by year 12 after transplantation to the artificial marsh.  相似文献

The partial composition of O-antigens in Escherichia known as the causative agents of escherichioses localized in the intestine and other organs has been studied. Escherichia of groups 01, 02 and 03 are characterized by different partial composition of their O-antigens. This composition can be expressed by the formulae: 01a, 1b; 01a, 1b, 1c; 01a, 1b, 1c, 1d; 01a, 1e; 02a, 2b, 2c; 02a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e; 02a, 2b, 2d, 2e, 2g; 02a, 2c, 2e; 06a, 6b; 06a, 6c. No pronounced correlation between the partial composition of O-antigens within the O-group and the presence of different K- or H-antigens in the strain has been established. The scheme of adsorption has been developed and anti-Escherichia factor O-sera have been obtained. The use of these sera allows one to differentiate Escherichia strains, isolated from patients, within the O-groups according to the partial composition of their antigens, which is of both diagnostic and epidemiological importance.  相似文献

This paper reviews and discusses the methods and metrics used for the assessment of the ecological status of marine angiosperms comparing the European with the South African situation. In Europe salt marsh and seagrasses are an important biological element for establishing the ecological quality status of transitional waters and in South Africa changes over time in the salt marsh and submerged macrophyte habitats (species richness, abundance and community composition) is used nationally to assess the health of estuaries. In Europe several studies have developed metrics that include salt marsh species composition and community structure to assess the ecological quality status. Deviation of taxonomic composition and abundance from a reference situation is investigated. Multi-metric approaches have been shown to provide a more holistic view of the ecological status of the ecosystem. Many indices are highly dependent on historical data to assess the deviation from reference conditions. Within the WFD spirit one widely used approach for salt marsh assessment, the Best’s method, the baseline can be determined based on the first sampling effort, by the largest previously recorded size of the salt marsh or using the “maximum potential size” of the salt marsh from habitat prediction models. In South Africa all habitat below the 5 m contour line is considered estuary habitat and any land occupied here by agricultural or other developments is considered as a loss of habitat from the reference condition. For seagrasses European metrics are based on attributes from the community (e.g., taxonomic composition, epiphytes), the population (e.g., bed extent, shoots density), but also quantified at individual species (e.g., leaves length) or physiological levels (e.g., stable isotopic signatures). Seagrass habitats in South African estuaries are highly dynamic in response to floods and an understanding of this is needed before present ecological status can be assessed.  相似文献

植物功能群与生境的关系是生态学研究的重要内容,对于揭示植物的环境适应机制、群落构建机制、预测植被变化等具有重要意义。为研究局域尺度上干旱区湿地、沙漠、戈壁等生态系统功能群的环境适应机制,在嘉峪关草湖国家湿地公园内,基于植物功能性状数据,研究了荒漠区不同生境条件下的功能群组成和功能性状特性。结果表明:随着生境条件的改变,土壤含水量、含盐量、容重、pH值等土壤性质发生显著变化;植物的功能群组成和功能性状会发生适应性的变化,沼泽湿地生境内植被的功能性状以克隆、C4光合途径、根茎型等特征为主,盐沼湿地以叶片被蜡、叶茎肉质、CS策略等特征为主,沙丘生境以叶片具毛、风播、具增厚或增长的根、一年生、CR策略等特征为主,荒漠戈壁以叶片少、具增厚或增长的根、虫媒、地上芽等特征为主。局域尺度上,生境异质性尤其是土壤条件的异质性是影响植物群落组成和植物功能性状变化的重要环境因子。  相似文献

We quantified seasonal variation in body composition and morphology of adult muskrats ( Ondatra zibethicus ) inhabiting freshwater marsh environments in central Saskatchewan, Canada. The study areas were characterized by long and cold winters extending over six months during which muskrats were restricted to foraging under ice. A total of 162 adult muskrats were collected during nine sampling periods across the year. The large accumulation of fat reserves (16% of body mass) during winter and the concurrent decline in protein mass suggested a reduced maintenance requirement associated with the presence of energy-rich food resources. Dietary fibre content increased significantly during mid-summer and was manifested by changes in gut morphology. Mobilization of fat reserves during summer months by both sexes reflected high energetic demands for reproduction. Males depleted fat reserves soon after spring break-up, while near-exhaustion of fat reserves in females occurred 4–6 weeks later, during lactation. Pregnant females contained significantly greater fat and protein reserves compared to non-pregnant and lactating females. The dynamics of body reserves in muskrats should be viewed as an integral part of the sex-specific life-history traits of this important herbivore species of marsh environments.  相似文献
