To assess the most important determinant for successful distance running (800 m, 1500 m and 3000 m events) in female athletes, measurements of several anaerobic indices were made (peak power, mean power) using the Wingate anaerobic test (WAnT), and aerobic indices such as oxygen uptake (VO2) or running velocity (v) at lactate threshold (LT), VO2 or v at onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA), running economy (RE), and maximal oxygen uptake were determined using the incremental treadmill test. The RE was represented by a VO2 value measured at 240 m.min-1 of a standard treadmill velocity. A stepwise multiple regression analysis (SAS stepwise procedure) combined the best features of forward inclusion and backward elimination to determine the most important factors in predicting the performance of running these distances as dependent variables. The stepwise procedure showed that the blood lactate variables such as LT and/or OBLA are highly correlated with, and contributed to predicting performance running 800 m-3000 m, whereas the anaerobic component was related only to running 800 m. In conclusion, blood lactate variables account for a large part of the variation in distance running performance in female as in male runners. The component of the anaerobic system which can be measured by the WAnT was shown to contribute to performance in running 800 m, but not in longer distances.  相似文献

Longitudinal alterations in anaerobic threshold (AT) and distance running performance were assessed three times within a 4-month period of intensive training, using 20 male, trained middle-distance runners (19-23 yr). A major effect of the high intensity regular intensive training together with 60- to 90-min AT level running training (2 d X wk-1) was a significant increase in the amount of O2 uptake corresponding to AT (VO2 AT; ml O2 X min-1 X kg-1) and in maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max; ml O2 X min-1 X kg-1). Both VO2 AT and VO2max showed significant correlations (r = -0.69 to -0.92 and r = -0.60 to -0.85, respectively) with the 10,000 m run time in every test. However, further analyses of the data indicate that increasing VO2 AT (r = -0.63, P less than 0.05) rather than VO2max (r = -0.15) could result in improving the 10,000 m race performance to a larger extent, and that the absolute amount of change (delta) in the 10,000 m run time is best accounted for by a combination of delta VO2 AT and delta 5,000 m run time. Our data suggest that, among runners not previously trained over long distances, training-induced alterations in AT in response to regular intensive training together with AT level running training may contribute significantly to the enhancement of AT and endurance running performance, probably together with an increase in muscle respiratory capacity.  相似文献

This study evaluated the accuracy of the reverse lactate threshold (RLT) and the onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA; 4 mmol·L-1) to determine the running speed at the maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) and 5 km running performance in a field test approach. Study 1: 16 participants performed an RLT test, and 2 or more constant-speed tests, lasting 30 minutes each, to determine running speed at the MLSS. Study 2: 23 participants performed an RLT test and a 5000 m all-out run as an indicator of performance. The RLT test consisted of an initial lactate-priming segment, in which running speed was increased stepwise up to ~5% above the estimated MLSS, followed by a reverse segment in which speed was decreased by 0.1 m·s-1 every 180 s. RLT was determined using the highest lactate equivalent ([La-]/running speed) during the reverse segment. OBLA was determined during the priming segment and was set at a value of 4 mmol∙L1. The mean difference in MLSS was +0.06 ± 0.05 m·s-1 for RLT, and +0.13 ± 0.23 m·s-1 for OBLA. OBLA showed a good concordance with the MLSS (ICC = 0.83), whereas RLT revealed excellent concordance with the MLSS with an ICC = 0.98. RLT showed a very high correlation with 5000 m speed (r = 0.97). The RLT exhibited exceptional agreement to MLSS and 5000 m running performance. Due to this high accuracy, especially concerning the small intraindividual differences, the RLT test may be superior to common threshold concepts. Further research is needed to evaluate its sensitivity during the training process.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of v amax as an indicator of middle-distance running performance in sub-elite young runners, amax being defined as the quotient maximal oxygen uptake (V˙O 2max) divided by the net energy cost of running (C r) on a treadmill at a submaximal running velocity (280 m · min−1). The V˙O 2max, ventilatory threshold, amax, and C r were assessed in 39 young male sub-elite runners having only small variations in performance level. The relationship between each variable and running performance (at 1500 m, 3000 m, and 5000 m) was evaluated. A trend toward a negative correlation existed between C r and performance although this was not significant. The V˙O 2max and amax were significantly related to performance. The amax accounted for around 50% of the variability in performance whereas other physiological variables selected in this study were responsible, at best, for approximately 39%. The results presented in this study suggested that amax was a useful indicator of middle-distance running performance in sub-elite young runners with similar performance levels as well as in top elite athletes. We investigated which attribute or what combination of attributes would best account for distance running performance of female runners. The subjects were 30 well-trained female distance runners, aged 19 to 23 years. Anthropometric and body composition characteristics, pulmonary function characteristics, blood properties, and cardiorespiratory function characteristics were measured at rest or during submaximal and maximal exercise. Analyses of the data showed that the relationship of oxygen uptake corresponding to lactate threshold (VO2T, ml.kg-1.min-1) with each distance running performance was substantially higher as compared with the relationship of other independent variables including maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). Furthermore, multiple regression analysis indicated that running performances in 3,000m, 5,000m, and 10,000m are best accounted for by a combination of VO2/LT (X1), fat-free weight (X2), and/or mean corpuscular volume (X3). A multiple regression equation for predicting the 5,000m (Y, s) running performance was formulated as Y = -14.75X1-3. 03X2-5.79X3 + 2282.1. We suggest that VO2max would not stand alone as a decisive factor of distance running success in female runners, and that the distance running performance could be better accounted for by a combination of several attributes relating to lactate threshold, body composition, and/or hematological status. The linear regression of the predicted running performance on the actually measured running performance can be accepted in the range of 986-1197s.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to examine the influence of a high carbohydrate diet on running performances during a 30-km treadmill time trial. Eighteen runners (12 men and 6 women) took part in this study and completed a 30-km time trial on a level treadmill without modifying their food intake (trial 1). The runners were then randomly assigned to a control or a carbohydrate (CHO) group. The CHO group supplemented their normal diets with additional carbohydrate in the form of confectionery products during the 7 days before trial 2; the control group matched the increased energy intake of the CHO group by consuming additional fat and protein. The mean (SEM) carbohydrate intake of both groups was 334 (22) g before trial 1, after which the CHO group consumed 566 (29) g.day-1 for the first 3 days and 452 (26) g.day-1 for the remaining 4 days of recovery. Although there was no overall difference between the performance times for the two groups during trial 2, the CHO group ran faster during the last 5 km of trial 2 than during trial 1 [3.64 (0.24) m.s-1 vs 3.44 (0.26) m.s-1; P less than 0.05]. Furthermore, the 6 men in the CHO group ran the 30 km faster after carbohydrate loading [131.0 (5.4) min vs 127.4 (4.9) min; P less than 0.05], whereas there was no such improvement in times of the men in the control group.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Stretching can lead to decreased muscle stiffness and has been associated with decreased force and power production. The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute effects of static stretching (SS) on running economy and endurance performance in trained female distance runners. Twelve long distance female (30 ± 9 years) runners were assessed for height (159.4 ± 7.4 cm), weight (54.8 ± 7.2 kg), % body fat (19.7 ± 2.8%), and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max: 48.4 ± 5.1 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)). Participants performed 2 sessions of 60-minute treadmill runs following a randomly assigned SS protocol or quiet sitting (QS). During the first 30 minutes (running economy), expired gases, heart rate (HR), and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were recorded while the participant ran at 65% VO2max. During the final 30 minutes (endurance performance), distance covered, speed, HR, and RPE were recorded while the participant attempted to cover as much distance as possible. Repeated measures analyses of variance were performed on the data. Significance was accepted at p < 0.05. The SS measured by sit-and-reach increased flexibility (SS: 29.8 ± 8.3 vs. QS: 33.1 ± 8.1 cm) but had no effect on running economy (VO2: 33.7 ± 3.2 vs. 33.8 ± 2.3 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)), calorie expenditure (270 ± 41 vs. 270 ± 41 kcal), HR (157 ± 10 vs. 160 ± 12 b·min(-1)), or endurance performance (5.5 ± 0.6 vs. 5.5 ± 0.7 km). These findings indicated that stretching did not have an adverse effect on endurance performance in trained women. This suggests that the performance decrements previously associated with stretching may not occur in trained women.  相似文献

Two experiments were carried out to compare the cardiorespiratory and metabolic effects of cross-country skiing and running training during two successive winters. Forty-year-old men were randomly assigned into skiing (n = 15 in study 1, n = 16 in study 2), running (n = 16 in study 1 and n = 16 in study 2) and control (n = 17 in study 1 and n = 16 in study 2) groups. Three subjects dropped out of the programme. The training lasted 9-10 weeks with 40-min exercise sessions three times each week. The training intensity was controlled at 75%-85% of the maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) using portable heart rate metres and the mean heart rate was 156-157 beats.min-1 in the training groups. In the pooled data of the two studies the mean increase in the VO2max (in ml.min-1.kg-1) on a cycle ergometer was 17% for the skiing group, 13% for the running group and 2% for the control group. The increase in VO2max was highly significant in the combined exercise group compared to the control group but did not differ significantly between the skiing and running groups. The fasting serum concentrations of lipoproteins and insulin did not change significantly in any of the groups. These results suggested that training by cross-country skiing and running of the same duration and intensity at each session for 9-10 weeks improved equally the cardiorespiratory fitness of untrained middle-aged men.  相似文献

Fifteen highly trained distance runners VO(2)max 71.1 +/- 6.0 ml.min(-1).kg(-1), mean +/- SD) were randomly assigned to a plyometric training (PLY; n = 7) or control (CON; n = 8) group. In addition to their normal training, the PLY group undertook 3 x 30 minutes PLY sessions per week for 9 weeks. Running economy (RE) was assessed during 3 x 4 minute treadmill runs (14, 16, and 18 km.h(-1)), followed by an incremental test to measure VO(2)max. Muscle power characteristics were assessed on a portable, unidirectional ground reaction force plate. Compared with CON, PLY improved RE at 18 km.h(-1) (4.1%, p = 0.02), but not at 14 or 16 km.h(-1). This was accompanied by trends for increased average power during a 5-jump plyometric test (15%, p = 0.11), a shorter time to reach maximal dynamic strength during a strength quality assessment test (14%, p = 0.09), and a lower VO(2)-speed slope (14%, p = 0.12) after 9 weeks of PLY. There were no significant differences in cardiorespiratory measures or VO(2)max as a result of PLY. In a group of highly-trained distance runners, 9 weeks of PLY improved RE, with likely mechanisms residing in the muscle, or alternatively by improving running mechanics.  相似文献

Abstract

A 3D anatomically-based finite-element foot model was adopted for predicting von Mises stresses within tibiotalar cartilage following 5?km barefoot running. To compare this predicted stress with T2 maps, magnetic resonance scans of the right ankle and plantar pressure were obtained from ten novices and ten marathon-experienced runners before and after running. Following running, tibiotalar cartilage stress was decreased in experienced runners. This corresponded with T2 values that did not change between pre- and post-running suggesting no increase in cartilage fluid levels. In contrast, novices maintained the same level of von Mises stress and this corresponded with a significant T2 increase in tibiotalar cartilage.  相似文献

This paper reflects on the factors that condition performance in powerlifting and proposes that the result-generating process is inadequately described by the allometric equations commonly used. We analysed the scores of 1812 lifters belonging to all body mass categories, and analysed the changes in the results achieved in each weight category and by each competitor. Current performance-predicting methods take into account biological variables, paying no heed to other competition features. Performance in male powerlifting (as in other strength sports) behaves as a self-organised system with non-linear interactions between its components. Thus, multiple internal and external elements must condition changes in a competitor's score, the most important being body mass, body size, the number of practitioners, and the concurrency of favourable factors in one individual. It was observed that each behaved in a specific form in the high level, according to the individuals’ circumstances, which make up the main elements of the competitive system in every category. In powerlifting, official weight categories are generally organised in three different groups: light (<52.0 to <60 kg), medium (<67.5 to <90.0 kg) and heavy (<100 to >125 kg) lifter categories, each one of them with specific allometric exponents. The exponent should be revised periodically, especially with regard to the internal dynamics of the category, and adjusted according to possible changes affecting competition.  相似文献

We report the athletic, physiological and mitochondrial-related genomic data of an Israeli endurance runner. He is holding the Israeli record in 10,000, 5000, 1500 and 800 m run, along with being one of the best Israeli 400 m runners. We tested the ACTN3 R577X, and six polymorphisms in the PPARGC1A-NRF-TFAM pathway genes. The case athlete was heterozygous for the ACTN3 R577X variation and had five out of six ‘endurance-oriented’ genotypes, scoring significantly high in endurance ‘optimal’ genotype profile. In conclusion, we suggest that the case athlete is favoured by polygenic profile that is more suitable for mitochondrial biogenesis, regardless of his good phenotypic accomplishments in short-term running events.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of caffeine ingestion on physical performance after prolonged endurance exercise. Twenty three trained male volunteers participated in a 40-km march and were divided into two groups, matched for caffeine clearance rate and aerobic capacity. The experimental group ingested, prior to the march, a caffeinated drink at a dose of 5 mg.kg-1 body mass and at the 3rd and 5th h of marching an additional drink at a dose of 2.5 mg.kg-1 body mass. The control group ingested a drink of equal volume at the same times. Upon termination of the march each subject performed a cycle ergometer test at an intensity of 90% maximal oxygen consumption. Time to exhaustion and rate of perceived exertion (RPE) were recorded. Blood samples were drawn predrink, at the 3rd and 5th h of marching and immediately after the cycle ergometer test, and were analysed for caffeine, free fatty acids (FFA), lactate and glucose levels. Plasma FFA levels increased during the march (p less than 0.05), with no significant difference between groups. Lactate levels increased in the experimental group (p less than 0.05), with no significant change in the control group. Glucose levels did not change significantly in either group. After the cycle ergometer test, lactate levels were significantly higher in the experimental, as compared to the control group (3.77 +/- 0.33 vs 2.52 +/- 0.35 mmol.l-1, respectively). There was no significant difference between treatments in the time to exhaustion on the cycle ergometer, but RPE was different (p less than 0.05).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The net energy cost of running per unit of body mass and distance (Cr, ml O2.kg-1.km-1) was determined on ten amateur runners before and immediately after running 15, 32 or 42 km on an indoor track at a constant speed. The Cr was determined on a treadmill at the same speed and each run was performed twice. The average value of Cr, as determined before the runs, amounted to 174.9 ml O2.kg-1.km-1, SD 13.7. After 15 km, Cr was not significantly different, whereas it had increased significantly after 32 or 42 km, the increase ranging from 0.20 to 0.31 ml O2.kg-1.km-1 per km of distance (D). However, Cr before the runs decreased, albeit at a progressively smaller rate, with the number of trials (N), indicating an habituation effect (H) to treadmill running. The effects of D alone were determined assuming that Cr increased linearly with D, whereas H decreased exponentially with increasing N, i.e. Cr = Cr0 + a D + He-bN. The Cr0, the "true" energy cost of running in nonfatigued subjects accustomed to treadmill running, was assumed to be equal to the average value of Cr before the run for N equal to or greater than 7 (171.1 ml O2.kg-1.km-1, SD 12.7; n = 30).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Anaerobic bacteria remain an important cause of bloodstream infections and account for 1–17% of positive blood cultures. This review summarizes the epidemiology, microbiology, predisposing conditions, and treatment of anaerobic bacteremia (AB) in newborns, children, adults and in patients undergoing dental procedures. The majority of AB are due to Gram-negative bacilli, mostly Bacteroides fragilis group. The other species causing AB include Peptostreptococcus, Clostridium spp., and Fusobacterium spp. Many of these infections are polymicrobial. AB in newborns is associated with prolonged labor, premature rupture of membranes, maternal amnionitis, prematurity, fetal distress, and respiratory difficulty. The predisposing conditions in children include: chronic debilitating disorders such as malignant neoplasm, hematologic abnormalities, immunodeficiencies, chronic renal insufficiency, or decubitus ulcers and carried a poor prognosis. Predisposing factors to AB in adults include malignant neoplasms, hematologic disorders, transplantation of organs, recent gastrointestinal or obstetric gynecologic surgery, intestinal obstruction, diabetes mellitus, post-splenectomy, use of cytotoxic agents or corticosteroids, and an undrained abscess. Early recognition and appropriate treatment of these infections are of great clinical importance.  相似文献

The normal oropharyngeal flora contained aerobic and anaerobic bacteria that can cause respiratory infections including sinusitis. Some of these bacteria can interfere with the growth of potential pathogens and may play a role in preventing infections. Anaerobic bacteria emerge as pathogens as the infection becomes chronic. This may be the result of the selective pressure of antimicrobial agents that enable resistant anaerobic organisms to survive, and from the development over time of conditions appropriate for anaerobic growth, which include the reduction in oxygen tension and an increase in acidity within the sinus cavity. Anaerobes were isolated in acute maxillary sinusitis of odontogenic origin and in over half of the patients with chronic sinusitis whenever proper techniques for their cultivation were employed. These organisms were also recovered in acute sinusitis that was associated with dental infections. The predominant isolates were pigmented Prevotella and Porphyromonas, Fusobacterium and Peptostreptococcus spp.  相似文献

The current perception among highly competitive endurance runners is that concurrent resistance and endurance training (CT) will improve running performance despite the limited research in this area. The purpose of this review was to search the body of scientific literature for original research addressing the effects of CT on distance running performance in highly competitive endurance runners. Specific key words (including running, strength training, performance, and endurance) were used to search relevant databases through April 2007 for literature related to CT. Original research was reviewed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. Five studies met inclusion criteria: highly trained runners (>or= 30 mile x wk(-1) or >or= 5 d x wk(-1)), CT intervention for a period >or= 6 weeks, performance distance between 3K and 42.2K, and a PEDro scale score >or= 5 (out of 10). Exclusion criteria were prepubertal children and elderly populations. Four of the five studies employed sport-specific, explosive resistance training, whereas one study used traditional heavy weight resistance training. Two of the five studies measured 2.9% improved performance (3K and 5K), and all five studies measured 4.6% improved running economy (RE; range = 3-8.1%). After critically reviewing the literature for the impact of CT on high-level runners, we conclude that resistance training likely has a positive effect on endurance running performance or RE. The short duration and wide range of exercises implemented are of concern, but coaches should not hesitate to implement a well-planned, periodized CT program for their endurance runners.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether modifying the standing long jump test would enhance its ability to be a better predictor of anaerobic performance compared to other common anaerobic power tests. Three modified box long jump (MBLJ) tests were performed using 1, 2, or 3 boxes. Subjects consisted of 38 healthy males (age, 21.7 +/- 1.7 years) who performed all the testing procedures. All 3 variations of the MBLJ test showed significant correlations (p < 0.05) with the vertical jump (VJ); standing long jump (SLJ); 50-, 100-, 200-, 400-m runs; long jump; triple jump; and shot put ability (r = 0.362-0.891). All 3 variations of the MBLJ test also showed significant correlations with isokinetic peak torque knee extension and flexion, Wingate mean power (W), and Wingate mean power per kilogram (W/kg) (r = 0.357-0.504). Generally, correlations of the 3 MBLJ tests were stronger than correlations between VJ and SLJ ability to the same measure of power. Generally, the 3-box MBLJ tests showed stronger correlations with measures of power than the 1- and 2-box MBLJ tests. Multiple linear regression models indicated that the 3-box MBLJ test is a major predictor of the track and field performances compared to the other tests of anaerobic power. Along with other independent variables, the 3-box MBLJ test explained 55%, 44%, 51%, 61%, 52%, and 72% of the variance of 50-, 100-, 200-, and 400-m runs; long jump; and triple jump performance, respectively. In conclusion, due to the significant correlations between the MBLJ tests, especially the 3-box version, and other measures of power, these tests are appropriate for testing lower body power.  相似文献
