In this paper, a global goodness-of-fit test statistic for a Cox regression model, which has an approximate chi-squared distribution when the model has been correctly specified, is proposed. Our goodness-of-fit statistic is global and has power to detect if interactions or higher order powers of covariates in the model are needed. The proposed statistic is similar to the Hosmer and Lemeshow (1980, Communications in Statistics A10, 1043-1069) goodness-of-fit statistic for binary data as well as Schoenfeld's (1980, Biometrika 67, 145-153) statistic for the Cox model. The methods are illustrated using data from a Mayo Clinic trial in primary billiary cirrhosis of the liver (Fleming and Harrington, 1991, Counting Processes and Survival Analysis), in which the outcome is the time until liver transplantation or death. The are 17 possible covariates. Two Cox proportional hazards models are fit to the data, and the proposed goodness-of-fit statistic is applied to the fitted models.  相似文献

Copula is a popular method for modeling the dependence among marginal distributions in multivariate censored data. As many copula models are available, it is essential to check if the chosen copula model fits the data well for analysis. Existing approaches to testing the fitness of copula models are mainly for complete or right-censored data. No formal goodness-of-fit (GOF) test exists for interval-censored or recurrent events data. We develop a general GOF test for copula-based survival models using the information ratio (IR) to address this research gap. It can be applied to any copula family with a parametric form, such as the frequently used Archimedean, Gaussian, and D-vine families. The test statistic is easy to calculate, and the test procedure is straightforward to implement. We establish the asymptotic properties of the test statistic. The simulation results show that the proposed test controls the type-I error well and achieves adequate power when the dependence strength is moderate to high. Finally, we apply our method to test various copula models in analyzing multiple real datasets. Our method consistently separates different copula models for all these datasets in terms of model fitness.  相似文献

In this paper we present a procedure to measure the degree of imbalance of an unbalanced data set. The procedure is based on choosing an appropriate loglinear model for the subclass frequencies of the data. A measure of imbalance is then introduced as some function of the chi-squared statistic used in the goodness-of-fit test for the loglinear model. The proposed procedure can also be used to measure departures from certain types of balance, such as proportionality of subclass frequencies, partial balance, and last-stage uniformity.  相似文献

EZ-FIT, an interactive microcomputer software package, has been developed for the analysis of enzyme kinetic and equilibrium binding data. EZ-FIT was designed as a user-friendly menu-driven package that has the facility for data entry, editing, and filing. Data input permits the conversion of cpm, dpm, or optical density to molar per minute per milligram protein. Data can be fit to any of 14 model equations including Michaelis-Menten, Hill, isoenzyme, inhibition, dual substrate, agonist, antagonist, and modified integrated Michaelis-Menten. The program uses the Nelder-Mead simplex and Marquardt nonlinear regression algorithms sequentially. A report of the results includes the parameter estimates with standard errors, a Student t test to determine the accuracy of the parameter values, a Runs statistic test of the residuals, identification of outlying data, an Akaike information criterion test for goodness-of-fit, and, when the experimental variance is included, a chi 2 statistic test for goodness-of-fit. Several different graphs can be displayed: an X-Y, a Scatchard, an Eadie-Hofstee, a Lineweaver-Burk, a semilogarithmic, and a residual plot. A data analysis report and graphs are designed to evaluate the goodness-of-fit of the data to a particular model.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the power behaviour of four goodness-of-fit test statistics in sparse multinomials with k cells. Most previous work has been concerned only with both Pearson's X2 and the likelihood ratio test statistics. We consider in this study, two additional test statistics, namely, the Cressie-Read test statistic – I(2/3) and the modified Freeman-Tukey test (FT) statistic. Because k ≥ 10 in this study, a Monte Carlo procedure based on 1000 simulated samples is used to estimate the powers for the four test statistics. Alternatives on various line segments are employed. Results suggest that none of the test statistics completely dominate the other and that the choice of which test to use depends on the nature of the alternative hypothesis. These results are consistent with those obtained by West and Kempthorne (1972), although, the Pearson's χ2 test statistic may be preferred because of its closer approximation to the χ2 distribution in terms of the attained α levels.  相似文献

A statistical goodness-of-fit test, based on representing the sample observations by linked vectors, is developed. The direction and the length of the linked vectors are defined as functions of the expected values of the order statistics and sample order statistics, respectively. The underlying method can be used to test distributional assumptions for any location-scale family. A test statistic Qn is introduced and some of its properties are studied. It is shown that the proposed test can be generalized to test if two or more independent samples come from the same distribution. The test procedure provides a graphical method of identifying the true distribution when the null hypothesis is rejected.  相似文献

Model selection is an essential issue in longitudinal data analysis since many different models have been proposed to fit the covariance structure. The likelihood criterion is commonly used and allows to compare the fit of alternative models. Its value does not reflect, however, the potential improvement that can still be reached in fitting the data unless a reference model with the actual covariance structure is available. The score test approach does not require the knowledge of a reference model, and the score statistic has a meaningful interpretation in itself as a goodness-of-fit measure. The aim of this paper was to show how the score statistic may be separated into the genetic and environmental parts, which is difficult with the likelihood criterion, and how it can be used to check parametric assumptions made on variance and correlation parameters. Selection of models for genetic analysis was applied to a dairy cattle example for milk production.  相似文献

The chi2 goodness-of-fit test is commonly used for testing if animals use resources in proportion to availability. This method assumes independence of resource selection among animals. In reality, this assumption is violated if animals display antisocial or gregarious behavior. Data from a study of sharp-tailed grouse in eastern Washington suggested some dependency among observations. Realizing that this dependency can have a great influence on inference for resource selection data, we develop a technique to incorporate information on dependent observations through a simple adjustment of the usual goodness-of-fit statistic. We also demonstrate how confidence intervals on proportional use may be modified for dependent observations. Simulation is used to compare our method to other methods.  相似文献

This paper considers four summary test statistics, including the one recently proposed by Bennett (1986, Biometrical Journal 28, 859–862), for hypothesis testing of association in a series of independent fourfold tables under inverse sampling. This paper provides a systematic and quantitative evaluation of the small-sample performance for these summary test statistics on the basis of a Monte Carlo simulation. This paper notes that the test statistic developed by Bennett (1986) can be conservative and thereby possibly lose the power when the underlying disease is not rare. This paper also finds that for given a fixed total number of cases in each table, the conditional test statistic is the best in controlling type I error among all test statistics considered here.  相似文献

Both the Bionomial and Poisson distributions are employed in this study to compute approximate powers for goodness-of-fit test statistics. The procedure adopted involves simulating 1000 samples from each of these distributions. These samples are then employed to compute both the randomized nominal critical values and estimated powers. The type I error rates returned from the use of the randomized critical levels Cα fall within the acceptable regions. We illustrate the use of the procedure with the Pearson's X2 test statistic and show that this can readily be extended to any of the other well known goodness-of-fit test statistics.  相似文献

Nonparametric inference on median residual life function   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary .  A simple approach to the estimation of the median residual lifetime is proposed for a single group by inverting a function of the Kaplan–Meier estimators. A test statistic is proposed to compare two median residual lifetimes at any fixed time point. The test statistic does not involve estimation of the underlying probability density function of failure times under censoring. Extensive simulation studies are performed to validate the proposed test statistic in terms of type I error probabilities and powers at various time points. One of the oldest data sets from the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), which has more than a quarter century of follow-up, is used to illustrate the method. The analysis results indicate that, without systematic post-operative therapy, a significant difference in median residual lifetimes between node-negative and node-positive breast cancer patients persists for about 10 years after surgery. The new estimates of the median residual lifetime could serve as a baseline for physicians to explain any incremental effects of post-operative treatments in terms of delaying breast cancer recurrence or prolonging remaining lifetimes of breast cancer patients.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with testing the multinomial (binomial) assumption against the Dirichlet-multinomial (beta-binomial) alternatives. In particular, we discuss the distribution of the asymptotic likelihood ratio (LR) test and obtain the C(alpha) goodness-of-fit test statistic. The inadequacy of the regular chi-square approximation to the LR test is supported by some Monte Carlo experiments. The C(alpha) test is recommended based on empirical significance level and power and also computational simplicity. Two examples are given.  相似文献

Breslow (1984) described an efficient score test for trend in incidence density rate ratios for cohort studies under a conditional Poisson or binomial model employing maximum likelihood estimation of the rate parameters. In this communication, an alternative derivation of this statistic that is based on an unconditional approach is provided, along with an examination of associated goodness-of-fit tests and methods of confidence interval estimation. The procedures are illustrated by a cohort study of ischemic heart disease mortality following industrial exposure to carbon disulfide.  相似文献

A goodness-of-fit test for multinomial logistic regression   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

This article presents a score test to check the fit of a logistic regression model with two or more outcome categories. The null hypothesis that the model fits well is tested against the alternative that residuals of samples close to each other in covariate space tend to deviate from the model in the same direction. We propose a test statistic that is a sum of squared smoothed residuals, and show that it can be interpreted as a score test in a random effects model. By specifying the distance metric in covariate space, users can choose the alternative against which the test is directed, making it either an omnibus goodness-of-fit test or a test for lack of fit of specific model variables or outcome categories.  相似文献

In recent years, generalized linear and nonlinear mixed-effects models have proved to be powerful tools for the analysis of unbalanced longitudinal data. To date, much of the work has focused on various methods for estimating and comparing the parameters of mixed-effects models. Very little work has been done in the area of model selection and goodness-of-fit, particularly with respect to the assumed variance-covariance structure. In this paper, we present a goodness-of-fit statistic which can be used in a manner similar to the R2 criterion in linear regression for assessing the adequacy of an assumed mean and variance-covariance structure. In addition, we introduce an approximate pseudo-likelihood ratio test for testing the adequacy of the hypothesized convariance structure. These methods are illustrated and compared to the usual normal theory likelihood methods (Akaike's information criterion and the likelihood ratio test) using three examples. Simulation results indicate the pseudo-likelihood ratio test compares favorably with the standard normal theory likelihood ratio test, but both procedures are sensitive to departures from normality.  相似文献

Adaptive two‐stage designs allow a data‐driven change of design characteristics during the ongoing trial. One of the available options is an adaptive choice of the test statistic for the second stage of the trial based on the results of the interim analysis. Since there is often only a vague knowledge of the distribution shape of the primary endpoint in the planning phase of a study, a change of the test statistic may then be considered if the data indicate that the assumptions underlying the initial choice of the test are not correct. Collings and Hamilton proposed a bootstrap method for the estimation of the power of the two‐sample Wilcoxon test for shift alternatives. We use this approach for the selection of the test statistic. By means of a simulation study, we show that the gain in terms of power may be considerable when the initial assumption about the underlying distribution was wrong, whereas the loss is relatively small when in the first instance the optimal test statistic was chosen. The results also hold true for comparison with a one‐stage design. Application of the method is illustrated by a clinical trial example.  相似文献

Statistical power of the classical twin design was revisited. The approximate sampling variances of a least-squares estimate of the heritability in a univariate analysis and estimate of the genetic correlation coefficient in a bivariate analysis were derived analytically for the ACE model. Statistical power to detect additive genetic variation under the ACE model was derived analytically for least-squares, goodness-of-fit and maximum likelihood-based test statistics. The noncentrality parameter for the likelihood ratio test statistic is shown to be a simple function of the MZ and DZ intraclass correlation coefficients and the proportion of MZ and DZ twin pairs in the sample. All theoretical results were validated using simulation. The derived expressions can be used to calculate power of the classical twin design in a simple and rapid manner.  相似文献

Smooth tests for the zero-inflated poisson distribution   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Thas O  Rayner JC 《Biometrics》2005,61(3):808-815
In this article we construct three smooth goodness-of-fit tests for testing for the zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) distribution against general smooth alternatives in the sense of Neyman. We apply our tests to a data set previously claimed to be ZIP distributed, and show that the ZIP is not a good model to describe the data. At rejection of the null hypothesis of ZIP, the individual components of the test statistic, which are directly related to interpretable parameters in a smooth model, may be used to gain insight into an alternative distribution.  相似文献

There are a number of nonparametric procedures known for testing goodness-of-fit in the univariate case. Similar procedures can be derived for testing goodness-of-fit in the multivariate case through an application of the theory of statistically equivalent blocks (SEB). The SEB transforms the data into coverages which are distributed as spacings from a uniform distribution on [0,1], under the null hypothesis. In this paper, we present a multivariate nonparametric test of goodness-of-fit based on the SEB when the multivariate distributions under the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis are “weakly” ordered. Empirical results are given on the performance of the proposed test in an application to the problem of assessing the reliability of a p-component system.  相似文献

A new transmission/disequilibrium-test statistic is proposed for situations in which transmission is uncertain. Such situations arise when transmission of a multilocus marker haplotype is considered, since haplotype phase is often unknown in a substantial number of instances. Even for single-locus markers, transmission is uncertain if one or both parents are missing. In both these situations, uncertainty may be reduced by the typing of further siblings, whose disease status may be unaffected or unknown. The proposed test is a score test based on a partial score function that omits the terms most influenced by hidden population stratification.  相似文献
