French uterine cancer recordings in death certificates include 60% of "uterine cancer, Not Otherwise Specified (NOS)"; this hampers the estimation of mortalities from cervix and corpus uteri cancers. The aims of this work were to study the reliability of uterine cancer recordings in death certificates using a case matching with cancer registries and estimate age-specific proportions of deaths from cervix and corpus uteri cancers among all uterine cancer deaths by a statistical approach that uses incidence and survival data. Deaths from uterine cancer between 1989 and 2001 were extracted from the French National database of causes of death and case-to-case matched to women diagnosed with uterine cancer between 1989 and 1997 in 8 cancer registries. Registry data were considered as "gold-standard". Among the 1825 matched deaths, cancer registries recorded 830 cervix and 995 corpus uteri cancers. In death certificates, 5% and 40% of "true" cervix cancers were respectively coded "corpus" and "uterus, NOS" and 5% and 59% of "true" corpus cancers respectively coded "cervix" and "uterus, NOS". Miscoding cervix cancers was more frequent at advanced ages at death and in deaths at home or in small urban areas. Miscoding corpus cancers was more frequent in deaths at home or in small urban areas. From the statistical method, the estimated proportion of deaths from cervix cancer among all uterine cancer deaths was higher than 95% in women aged 30-40 years old but declined to 35% in women older than 70 years. The study clarifies the reason for poor encoding of uterus cancer mortality and refines the estimation of mortalities from cervix and corpus uteri cancers allowing future studies on the efficacy of cervical cancer screening.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to estimate the influence of war in Croatia on the frequency of gynecological cancer (cancer of corpus and cervix uteri and ovary) in the Clinical Hospital Osijek, particularly the relation between the pre-war and post-war period. We analyzed 1455 patients with corpus uteri and cervix uteri cancer and ovarian cancer treated in the Clinical Hospital Osijek in the period 1985-2002 (group I). Patients from Osjecko-Baranjska County were analyzed separately--1273 women, (group II) and in the group III there were 182 patients from other counties. The analyzed period was divided into: pre-war 1985-1990, war 1991-1993 and post-war period 1997-2002. In all three groups the number of patients treated for gynecological cancer was significantly larger in the post-war period (group I, N = 611, group II, N = 498, group III, N = 113) than in the pre-war period (group I, N = 457, group II, N = 433, group III, N = 24). The analysis of cancer frequency in relation to the site shows that a total number of patients treated for cervical cancer was larger in the post-war (N = 229) than in the pre-war period (N = 214), but the difference wasn't significant. However, the number of patients from Osjecko-baranjska County treated for cervical cancer was larger in the pre-war (N = 207) than in the post-war period (N = 178) but still, the difference wasn't significant. The number of patients treated for corpus uteri cancer and ovarian cancer was significantly larger for the I group in the post-war (N = 225 and N = 157 respectively) than in the pre-war period (N = 136, and N = 107 respectively). In the group II the number of patients treated for corpus uteri cancer and ovarian cancer was larger in the post-war (N = 196 and N = 124 respectively) than in the pre-war period (N = 130 and N = 96 respectively) but the difference was significant only for corpus uteri cancer. Significantly more women were treated for gynecological cancer in the post-war than in the pre-war period. However, the war had probably an indirect influence on the increased number of patients treated for gynecological cancer mainly because many more women arrived from other counties.  相似文献

Death certificates were reviewed for the 543 Alberta women who died during the period 1969 through 1978 and for whom the underlying cause of death was coded as uterine cancer. To evaluate the recorded cause of death Alberta Cancer Registry records, which existed for 97% of the women, were examined. Calculations from the revised information showed an increase in the mortality of cancer of the corpus uteri and a decrease in the mortality of cancer of the cervix uteri over the 10-year period, but neither was statistically significant. During the same period in Alberta the incidence of cancer of the corpus uteri increased significantly and the incidence of cancer of the cervix uteri decreased significantly.  相似文献

Abstract: Three autopsy brains from patients who succumbed to malignant gliomas have been analyzed in various regions with regard to their ganglioside content. The study focused on the gangliosides GD3 and 3'-isoLM1, which in a previous study of biopsies were found to be associated with these tumors. In particular, 3'-isoLM1, was suggested to be a marker for malignant gliomas. The highest concentrations (200–1,000 nmol of sialic acid/g wet weight) of GD3 was found in specimens of macroscopically pure tumor, where the proportion of GD3 was, at the most, 78% (range, 11–78%) of the total ganglioside sialic acid compared with <10% in normal brain tissue. The proportion of the total ganglioside sialic acid made up by GD3 was also elevated in the periphery of the tumor and in the same region in the opposite hemisphere, where no tumor cells were detected. In four of eight brain metastases of various carcinomas, GD3 was >10% of the total ganglioside sialic acid (range, 3–37%). The ganglioside 3'-isoLM1, as determined by TLC-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using a specific monoclonal antibody (SL-50), was not present at detectable levels in any of the macroscopically homogenous tumor areas. It was, however, found in the periphery of the tumor, in the corpus callosum, and at highest concentrations in the region of the opposite hemisphere corresponding to the tumor. The concentration varied between 0.1 and 6.0 nmol/g wet weight of tissue. The 3'-isoLM1 ganglioside was not detected in normal gray or white matter or in the normal corpus callosum, but in one of three breast cancer metastasis, one of two low differentiated cancer metastases, and one stomach cancer. The concentration was 1–4 nmol/g wet weight. These results indicate a unique distribution of the gangliosides GD3 and 3'-isoLM1 and suggest that they play distinct roles in interaction between tumor cells and brain.  相似文献

BackgroundCorpus uteri cancer has become the fourth most common female cancer in Europe. In Estonia, the prevalence of obesity is increasing, and corpus uteri cancer survival has been relatively low. The aim of the study was to evaluate incidence, mortality and survival trends of corpus uteri cancer in Estonia by age, stage and histological subtypes with an emphasis on surgical treatment.MethodsEstonian Cancer Registry data on incident cases of corpus uteri cancer were used to examine incidence trends (1995–2016) and calculate relative survival ratios (RSR) (1996–2016). Cases were classified by morphology and FIGO stage. Causes of Death Registry data were used to analyse corrected mortality (1995–2017).ResultsA total of 4281 cases were diagnosed in 1996–2016. A significant increase was seen in age-standardized incidence from 2009, while mortality remained stable throughout the study period. Significant increases were observed for type I cancers and age groups ≥65 years. Overall age-standardized 5-year RSR improved from 70% in 1996–2002 to 78% in 2010–2016. Survival increased for type I cancers, all age groups and all stages (significantly for stage IV). The proportion of surgically treated cases increased significantly from 85% to 89%, with the largest increases seen in older age groups and later stages.DiscussionThe rising corpus uteri cancer incidence in Estonia is driven by the type I cancer trend. Survival gain for later stages and older age groups likely reflected more frequent surgical treatment. To reduce mortality, further efforts are necessary to ensure appropriate care for all patients.  相似文献

The authors describe strains of human cancer of the stomach, colon, cervix and corpus uteri as well as uterine chorionepitheliomas transplanted into nude mice and rats. The histological appearance of these strains is in full accordance with that of primary tumors. Electrophoresis of lactate dehydrogenase isozymes indicates that the strains mainly consist of human cells. The strains are transplanted in nude animals at various time intervals. The strains of human gastric cancer are transplanted from animal to animal in a month and those of corpus uteri in a week.  相似文献

ObjectiveAppraisal of cancer survival is essential for cancer control, but studies related to gynecological cancer are scarce. Using cancer registration data, we conducted an in-depth survival analysis of cervical, uterine corpus, and ovarian cancers in an urban district of Shanghai during 2002–2013.Materials and methodsThe follow-up data of gynecological cancer from the Changning District of Shanghai, China, were used to estimate the 1–5-year observed survival rate (OSR) and relative survival rate (RSR) by time periods and age groups during 2002–2013. Age-standardized relative survival rates estimated by the international cancer survival standards were calculated during 2002–2013 to describe the prognosis of cervical, uterine corpus, and ovarian cancers among women in the district.ResultsIn total, 1307 gynecological cancer cases were included in the survival analysis in the district during 2002–2013. Among gynecological cancers, the 5-year OSRs and RSRs of uterine corpus cancer were highest (5-year OSR 84.40%, 5-year RSR 87.67%), followed by those of cervical cancer (5-year OSR 73.58%, 5-year RSR 75.91%), and those of ovarian cancer (5-year OSR 53.89%, 5-year RSR 55.90%). After age adjustment, the 5-year relative survival rates of three gynecological cancers were 71.23%, 80.11%, and 43.27%, respectively.ConclusionThe 5-year relative survival rate did not show a systematic temporal trend in cervical cancer, uterine cancer, or ovarian cancer. The prognosis in elderly patients was not optimistic, and this needs a more advanced strategy for early diagnosis and treatment. The age structure of gynecological cancer patients in the district tended to be younger than the standardized age, which implies that more attention to the guidance and health education for the younger generation is needed.  相似文献

The present study evaluated the occurrence of apoptosis and caspase-3 activity in the canine corpus luteum during the period of luteal regression in eight pregnant and nine nonpregnant diestrus bitches. Intact luteal cells were obtained from corpora lutea in both peripartum pregnant bitches and nonpregnant diestrus bitches at approximately 65 d (range 63-68) after estrus, but not at days 75 and 85 in nonpregnant bitches. In all bitches, apoptotic cells were rarely detected and when present, those cells were more easily detected using the hematoxylin and eosin technique than using the critical electrolyte concentration technique. The luteal structures at 75 and 85 d of diestrus had histological characteristics similar to a corpus albicans. Caspase-3 activity was detected in morphologically normal corpora lutea from both pregnant and diestrus bitches around day 65, and also in the later structures considered corpus albicans tissue. These results suggested that apoptosis may not be the major mechanism involved in canine functional luteal regression, and that caspase-3 participated in both functional and morphological luteolysis and in the tissue reorganization involved in corpus albicans formation.  相似文献

Draxin is an important axon guidance cue necessary for the formation of forebrain commissures including the corpus callosum, but the molecular details of draxin signaling are unknown. To unravel how draxin signals are propagated we used murine cortical neurons and genetic and pharmacological approaches. We found that draxin-induced growth cone collapse critically depends on draxin receptors (deleted in colorectal cancer, DCC), inhibition of protein kinase B/Akt, activation of GSK-3β (glycogen synthase kinase-3β) and the presence of microtubule-associated protein MAP1B. This study, for the first time elucidates molecular events in draxin repulsion, links draxin and DCC to MAP1B and identifies a novel MAP1B-depenent GSK-3β pathway essential for chemo-repulsive axon guidance cue signaling.  相似文献

The metabolism of pregnenolone-7alpha-3H and progesterone-4-14C by human corpora lutea tissue of menstrual cycles and pregnancy was studied. In the incubations, equimolar mixtures of pregnenolone-7alpha-3H and progesterone-4-14C were used as substrates. Three corpora lutea of cycles were used as minced tissue. From those corpora lutea progesterone, 17-hydroxyprogesterone and androstenedione were formed, although no estrogens were formed. One corpus luteum of cycle and one corpus luteum of pregnancy were used as homogenated tissue, and those formed estrone and estradiol as well as the same three delta4-metabolites. The corpus luteum of cycle also formed testosterone. All metabolites including estrogens showed the lower 3H to 14C ratio than the starting ratio. 17-hydroxypregnenolone in only one corpus luteum, and no delta5-metabolites in the other four corpus luteum were identified. It is therefore proposed that the major pathway for estrogen formation in human corpus luteum is pregnenolone yields progesterone yields 17-hydroxyprogesterone yields androstenedione (or testosterone) yields estrone and estradiol.  相似文献

Background: Long-term Helicobacter pylori infection causes inflammatory sequelae such as atrophy and intestinal metaplasia in the stomach, which is thought to increase the risk of developing gastric malignancy. We previously reported that gastric atrophy can develop in Japanese children with H. pylori infection, predominantly in the antrum. However, detailed data about the age of children with atrophy are largely lacking.
Methods and results: In the present study, 131 children (79 boys) with H. pylori infection were re-analyzed for an association between age and the grade of gastric atrophy. The gastric antrum was histologically evaluated in all 131 patients and the corpus in 46 patients. Grade 2 and 3 antral atrophy was observed in 13 and one patients, respectively: the mean age was 12.1 years. Two patients (11 and 14 years old) had grade 2 corpus atrophy but no patients had grade 3. No significant difference was found in age among patients with grade 0, 1 and 2 or 3 atrophy in the antrum ( p =  .97) and in the corpus ( p =  .59). None of the patients with grade 2 or 3 atrophy had intestinal metaplasia either in the antrum or in the corpus.
Conclusions: The results of the present study require a careful interpretation because of the retrospective analysis. In high-risk countries of gastric cancer, however, eradicating H. pylori in childhood could prove more effective in preventing gastric atrophy, ultimately, the development of cancer.  相似文献

Background. Cyclooxygenase (COX)‐2 induced by Helicobacter pylori is thought to enhance gastric carcinogenesis by affecting the maintenance of epithelial homeostasis. Materials and Methods. Gastric biopsies from 160 subjects, 97 with nonulcer dyspepsia (47 H. pylori negative, 50 H. pylori positive) and 63 with gastric cancer were examined immunohistochemically for COX‐2 expression, cell proliferation and apoptotic indices. Results. COX‐2 expression in corpus was significantly higher in H. pylori positive than in negative non‐ulcer dyspepsia (NUD) (p < .05). Regardless of site, gastric cancer subjects had higher COX‐2 expression in both antrum and corpus compared with H. pylori negative and positive NUD (p < .005). Proliferation was higher in cancer and H. pylori positive than in negative NUD (p < .0001). Moreover, cancer had enhanced proliferation than H. pylori positive NUD in corpus greater (p = .0454) and antrum lesser (p = .0215) curvatures. Apoptosis was higher in H. pylori positive than in negative NUD (p < .05). However, both had a higher index than the cancer subjects (p < .0001). Apoptosis : proliferation ratio was higher in corpus of H. pylori negative than in positive NUD in greater (p = .0122) and lesser (p = .0009) curvatures. However, both had a higher A:P ratio than cancer cases (p = .0001). A negative correlation between COX‐2 expression and A:P ratio was found in corpus greater (r = –.176, p= .0437) and lesser (r = –.188, p= .0312) curvatures. Conclusion. The expression of COX‐2 is associated with disruption in gastric epithelial kinetics and hence may play a role in gastric carcinogenesis.  相似文献

Background: Endoscopic surveillance of pre‐malignant gastric lesions may add to gastric cancer prevention. However, the appropriate biopsy regimen for optimal detection of the most advanced lesions remains to be determined. Therefore, we evaluated the yield of endoscopic surveillance by standardized and targeted biopsy protocols. Materials and Methods: In a prospective, multi‐center study, patients with intestinal metaplasia (IM) or dysplasia (DYS) underwent a surveillance gastroscopy. Both targeted biopsies from macroscopic lesions and 12 non‐targeted biopsies according to a standardized protocol (antrum, angulus, corpus, cardia) were obtained. Appropriate biopsy locations and the yield of targeted versus non‐targeted biopsies were evaluated. Results: In total, 112 patients with IM (n = 101), or low‐grade (n = 5) and high‐grade DYS (n = 6) were included. Diagnosis at surveillance endoscopy was atrophic gastritis (AG) in one, IM in 77, low‐grade DYS in two, high‐grade DYS in three, and gastric cancer in one patient. The angulus (40%), antrum (35%) and lesser curvature of the corpus (33%) showed the highest prevalence of pre‐malignant conditions. Non‐targeted biopsies from the lesser curvature had a significantly higher yield as compared to the greater curvature of the corpus in diagnosing AG and IM (p = .05 and p = .03). Patients with extensive intragastric IM, which was also present at the cardia were at high risk of a concurrent diagnosis of dysplasia or gastric cancer. High‐grade DYS was detected in targeted biopsies only. Conclusions: At surveillance endoscopies, both targeted and non‐targeted biopsies are required for an appropriate diagnosis of (pre‐)malignant gastric lesions. Non‐targeted biopsies should be obtained in particular from the antrum, angulus and lesser curvature of the corpus.  相似文献

N-Acetylglucosamine 6-O-sulfotransferase-2 (GlcNAc6ST2) is ectopically expressed in ovarian mucinous and clear cell adenocarcinoma [Kanoh et al., Glycoconj J 23:453–460, 2006]. Here we studied whether GlcNAc6ST2 protein can be detected in sera from patients with gynecological cancers and could serve as a tumor marker. First, we created a monoclonal antibody and polyclonal antiserum against GlcNAc6ST2. These antibodies were specific for GlcNAc6ST2, as shown by Western blot analysis and immunoprecipitation. Using these antibodies, we constructed a sandwich ELISA method for detecting GlcNAc6ST2 in the serum. GlcNAc6ST2 provided lower positive rates for ovarian cancer than CA125, but higher positive rates for uterine cervical and corpus cancer than SCC antigens and CA125, respectively. A significantly higher percentage of stage I uterine cervical and corpus cancers were positive for GlcNAc6ST2 than for SCC antigens and CA125, respectively. GlcNAc6ST2 could therefore be a good serological marker for detecting early-stage uterine cervical and corpus cancers.  相似文献

Recently, the National Cancer Institute published a comprehensive monograph on multiple primary cancers in Connecticut and Denmark. This paper summarizes some of the observations made on the Connecticut population. Data compiled by the Connecticut Tumor Registry have extended our knowledge about the patterns of multiple primary cancers, especially among long-term survivors of cancer and among patients with relatively rare tumors about which little information currently exists. When compared with the general Connecticut population, cancer patients had a 31 percent (RR = 1.31) increased risk of developing a second cancer and a 23 percent (RR = 1.23) elevated risk of second cancer at a different site from the first. Common environmental exposures seemed responsible for the excess occurrence of many second cancers, particularly those related to cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, or both. For example, persons with epithelial cancers of the lung, larynx, esophagus, buccal cavity, and pharynx were particularly prone to develop new cancers in the same or contiguous tissue throughout their lifetimes. Cancers of the colon, uterine corpus, breast, and ovary frequently occurred together, suggesting underlying hormonal or dietary influences. Only patients with prostate cancer were at significantly low risk for second cancer development; this might be an artifact of case finding, since advanced age at initial diagnosis was generally associated with an underascertainment of second cancers. Radiotherapy may have caused rectal and other cancer among patients with cancers of the female genital tract, and leukemia among patients with uterine corpus cancer. Chemotherapy with alkylating agents probably contributed to the excess of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia following multiple myeloma or cancers of the breast and ovary. Genetic susceptibility seemed to explain some tumor complexes, such as the multiple occurrences of cutaneous melanoma and the excess of bone cancer following retinoblastoma. Research into multiple cancer syndromes should enhance our understanding of carcinogenic factors and mechanisms and the development of strategies for cancer prevention and control.  相似文献

Micronucleus (MN) levels in exfoliated buccal mucosa cells of primary breast, cervix and corpus uteri cancer patients, and patients with benign tumors of uterus (myoma) and breast (fibroadenoma) were studied. Significantly increased number of MN in cells of cancer patients was observed compared to both healthy persons and patients with benign tumors. In patients with benign tumors no increase in MN quantity was observed. The evaluation of MN number in buccal mucosa cells shows genomic instability caused by malignant tumor in somatic cells of humans.  相似文献

In Ontario, ovarian cancer causes 7% of female cancer deaths, exceeding cancer of the uterine cervix or corpus in women aged 50 years and over. For 1722 patients with ovarian cancer registered at the Ontario Cancer Foundation Clinics in 1938-1958, who received some or all of their treatment at the clinics or were untreated anywhere, the crude survival rate at five years was 28%. Survival was greatly influenced by extent of disease and by histological type; survival rates remained constant or rose slightly over successive periods although an increasing proportion of advanced cases were registered. The method of choice for initial treatment was panhysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and radiotherapy. Agreement on classification by histological type and extent is urgently needed.  相似文献

The 5alpha-reductase and 3alpha-hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase enzyme activities have been measured in epididymal tissues and the control of these activities by androgens and the rete testis fluid appreciated. The highest 5alpha-reductase enzyme activity was found in the caput, the lowest in the corpus epididymidis. Androgens have a positive control on the 5alpha-reductase but no effect on the 3alpha-hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase activity. Ligation of the efferent ducts decreased significantly both enzyme activities in the caput but not in the corpus or in the cauda epididymidis.  相似文献
